Our picks of the best pushchairs and travel systems in the UK 2024

Why trust us, mamas & papas ocarro pushchair.

  • Age range: pushchair: birth – 22kg (approx. 4 years); car seat: birth – 24 months
  • Size: 101 x 59 x 101 cm
  • Pushchair weight: 13.7kg
  • Car seat weight: 3.8kg

If you want a travel system that does it all, the Mamas & Papas Ocarro is hard to beat. It’s easy to fold even with one hand, can be used on all terrains and fits in smaller cars, so has become a hit with BabyCentre parents. You can buy it in a range of bundle deals with a lot of add-ons, so check just what you’re getting for your money. Most of the travel system bundles have eight pieces, which include the chassis base, a carrycot, pushchair seat, car seat, car seat base, adapters, umbrella and rain cover. The car seat that's included is the Cybex Cloud Z i-Size seat. It's suitable up to 18 months, with the bundles also including the Cybex Base Z so you can fit the car seat into your car. Parents love that it’s sturdy but easy to move, even up and down kerbs. And although it isn’t cheap, you can fold it with one hand when you need to put it in the car. As with any travel system, the pushchair seat can face you or face outwards. The hood is large and shields from the sun, and the base has reflective wheels to make you stand out that little bit more for safety. You can lie your baby flat in the pushchair seat as well as the carrycot, and both have vents to help prevent your little one getting too hot. If you’re switching between users, the handle also moves up and down, which is a help if you’re different heights. BabyCentre parents say "Lovely strong sturdy pram that should last as long as my little one needs a pram for. I wanted strong wheels that could go on any ground, and a pram that could be used from birth." "It's very sturdy, beautiful and so easy to move. I would have got something cheaper but we wanted a system that would be easy for me to take out and about in the city, and would do just as well off-road on the weekend. I hope this is an investment that will last a few years. The resale value is also good if we make sure we look after it." "It’s a great system. It folds flat, is sturdy and turns on a sixpence." "The Ocarro flattens, and it has a newborn insert so we didn’t even have to purchase the carrycot at an extra cost. I like how the hood is very long, so it covers baby and helps keep strangers’ hands out of the pram! It’s also a one-hand fold, so you can have baby in one hand and fold the pram. The back wheels come off and you can fold the pram without the chassis, making it fit in most car boots. But it is quite heavy to lift."

  • Age range: birth – 25kg (approx. 4 years)
  • Size: 88 x 36 x 23 cm
  • Weight: 12.9kg

The love for the iCandy Peach travel system has stood the test of time. Parents love how compact it is when folded up, as well as how lightweight it is to push around or move. It also has a lot of functions that can be done with one hand, like folding it down. The great thing about the iCandy is you can add on an extra seat for another child. So, if you’re planning another baby in the not too distant future, then this may be a good one for you. Parents and carers also like how this is a great option if you’re tall, as the handles can be moved up to 105cm. The shopping basket can also carry up to 10kg. BabyCentre parents say "I chose the iCandy Peach 7 because it’s easy to fold and I love the way it pushes around." "I love that the carry cot can be brought up and the handle height adjusted, as we are 6ft tall. It came with all we needed: car seat, base, carry cot, chassis, rain cover and pram seat... plus a large shopping basket."

  • Age range: pushchair: birth – 18kg; car seat: birth – 13kg
  • Folded size: 97 x 63 x 25 cm
  • Pushchair weight: 7kg

Who says you have to choose between black or grey? Not Cosatto who offer some of the best-looking travel systems on the market. Animal print, cute patterns and bright colours are their thing, so if you want to stand out on the street, this may be the choice for you. The Giggle 3 travel system isn’t style over substance either, delivering a lot with the three-wheeled compact chassis plus carrycot or car seat. It's a more affordable option than some, too. The carrycot design can be either a pram for your newborn to lie flat in, or a more upright pushchair for when your baby is a little older. You can also have it facing away from or towards you. BabyCentre parents say "The pattern is really cute and my baby loves looking at it, plus it's so lovely to push. It's very lightweight and the units are higher than they are in other systems, so we don't have to bend as much to get our baby in and out. It's super easy to fold and put up, and is very compact. The price was also fab. The only complaint I have is that the basket is very small and oddly made; when the carry cot is on, it’s hard to get much in there." "I love the colour and pattern, but also that is fits in smaller spaces and is easy to fold, so it can fit in the boot of my Peugeot 208. It’s much lighter than my other one, too."

  • Age range: pushchair: birth – 26kg; car seat: birth – 13kg
  • Size: 105 x 60 x 90 cm
  • Pushchair weight: 12kg

Chassis, carrycot which converts to pushchair seat, car seat and extras are all included in most of the bundles you can get online, so you don’t even need to factor in buying additional items elsewhere, making this even better value for money. Parents love every aspect of the KinderKraft MOOV, like how well it steers, its easily adjustable handles and stylish looks. This travel system doesn’t scrimp on comfort for your baby either, with large wheels and shock absorbers to ensure they aren’t in for a bumpy ride. BabyCentre parents say "It’s very stylish to look at, very easy to push and is rear and world facing. It has a huge basket and what I love about it is that it has an adjustable handlebar, which makes it a lot easier for me as I am short." "We got the Kinderkraft 3-in-1 MOOV. We needed something within budget and one that folded down quite small. This fit the bill. It came with plenty of extras - changing bag, parasol, fly net and waterproof cover. It has great wheels for bumpy surfaces and they come off easily when you need them to. It’s very simple to use and put together."

  • Age range: pushchair: birth – 22kg; car seat: birth – 15 months (approx.)
  • Size: 100 x 65 x 91 cm
  • Pushchair weight: 12.4kg
  • Car seat weight: 6kg

There’s a lot to love about the UPPAbaby Vista V2, but one of the biggest things for parents is the ease of using this buggy off-road. It’s a solid and sturdy travel system, with large wheels and a large basket – another aspect mums and dads rate. The handle can be extended, and there are lots of great add-ons, including a ‘rumbleseat’,which is an extra seat to turn it into a double buggy. You can also buy a buggy board, which you can clip on if you have a child who can stand rather than sit when going from A to B. Plus, there's a carry cot stand, so you can use the bassinet as a Moses basket. BabyCentre parents say "Strong chassis and large wheels for all terrain. The fabrics are great quality and it has a huge shopping basket. It can convert to a double if we have another child, and has a simple fold. It cost a lot, but it's solid and I think it will last. It feels like it's good value." "I like it because we are both tall and the frame sits quite high. We can add an extra seat if we want another baby in the future, and it folds quickly into both our car boots."

Travel system buying guide

What you need to know With a wheeled base plus car seat and bassinet or carrycot, a travel system is a great option when you’re on the move with your newborn. The flat-based carrycot means a travel system functions as a pram for your baby, which is the best way for them to lie until they’re at least six months old. Being able to clip on your baby’s car seat for short trips when out and about is a great option to prevent waking them up to move them. But it’s advised that a baby shouldn’t be left in their car seat for longer than 90 minutes at a time. And newborns, or babies that were premature, should ideally only be sat in one for up to 30 minutes in one go. If you're planning a long journey, factor in lots of breaks! If you’re unsure about how a travel system differs from a buggy or stroller, our pushchair article outlines the differences. Put simply, a travel system is one item that can adapt to meet all your baby's travel needs, from newborn to toddlerhood. Good Egg Safety CIC Opens a new window , the UK's leading child seat specialist said, 'The most important item we will ever buy for our children is their child seat. Some parents buy their travel system first, then find the child seat isn't a fit for their car. To avoid this, we always suggest choosing a car seat by a reputable manufacturer and then picking a travel system that is compatible with it. Buying the car seat and travel system separately offers more options.' The one that's right for you may depend on many factors: the price, size, whether it fits in your vehicle, and how heavy it is to push or lift into your car, as well as how easy it is to fold or change between functions. Lifting it in and out of the car, adding the carrycot pram attachment or putting the car seat into place may be done a few times a day. That's why getting a travel system that’s easy to adapt and not too heavy to use is vital. If you’re planning lots of off-road walks, it’s worth getting one that's great for all-terrain use too. If you’re pregnant with twins , or planning another baby in the near future, check to see if it can become a double buggy. Some include lots of extras, like foot muffs or rain covers. If you’re pricing up a total amount you need to spend, make sure you include these too, as needing to buy them as extras later down the line may not make your travel system such a bargain after all. Some travel systems come with their own brand of car seat, others use car seats from other manufacturers. So you might well want to look into the safety of the car seat itself, too. Travel systems can cost from a few hundred pounds into the thousands. Given how much you'll use it, you may decide to invest more in a system that has great reviews and is built to last.

One-handed five-position recline

Height-adjustable handlebar

What we don't like

What Mumsnet users say

"I love it. Especially the huge basket which has been used for fairly large shops and the occasional stroppy toddler" - recommended by Mumsnet user, Dyra

“ Also a Nuna Mixx fan here! I live in the countryside so find the larger wheels helpful but if you are based in a city, you may not need such a big pram. I used the car seat adapters a lot in the first few months to nip in and out of places” - rated by Mumsnet user Rose2108

Our verdict

An upgrade to the incredibly popular Nuna Mixx , the Nuna Mixx Next exudes comfort and style at every turn, with some significant improvements that have proven to be a huge hit with Mumsnet users and consumers alike. It can be used with a Nuna carrycot (without needing adapters) or with compatible car seats from Nuna, Maxi Cosi or Cybex using the car seat adapters included in the box.

Thanks to the comfortable seat, easy manoeuvrability, excellent storage and large all-terrain wheels, it easily takes our top spot as the best travel system you can buy today. It’s also worth mentioning that the Nuna Mixx Next is a Which? Best Buy and one of the top-scoring pushchairs in their lab tests.

While slightly heavier than the original model, improvements to the folding mechanism mean the Nuna Mixx Next now folds in upon itself, resulting in a more compact fold that’s around 16cm shorter than its predecessor. It conveniently self-stands, so you don’t need to worry about it getting the chassis dirty as you move it in and out of your car, although it's not a particularly portable travel system for public transport. The Nuna Mixx Next also has more durable rubber wheels than the original Mixx, with improved wheel suspension that can even tackle tricky terrain such as gravel or snow .

It’s easy to steer (even one-handed), manoeuvres well around tight corners and obstacles, and tackles kerbs with ease. The leatherette handlebar also offers a choice of heights between 106cm and 115cm, making it easy to achieve a comfortable and natural hold for both petite and tall parents. We love the green and red indicators on the brake pedal that provide quick visual reassurance that the brake is engaged - ideal when you’re travelling around a busy urban environment.

Suitable from birth using the lie-flat recline, the Nuna Mixx Next has a comfortable all-season and machine-washable seat with a removable cosy padded liner and a mesh back for breathability during the warmer summer months. The included rain cover offers good protection from the elements on wet days and, although it's a little noisy to extend, the UPF 50+ hood with a viewing window provides good coverage from the sun. It’s even water-repellent, so if an unexpected downpour comes your way, your baby will still stay warm and dry.

We love how the five-point harness can keep your baby safe and secure but converts to a more convenient three-point harness as your baby grows. If your child tends to nod off on their travels, you’ll also appreciate the one-handed, five-position recline, allowing you to switch from upright to lie flat quickly and easily. The two-handed fold on the Nuna Mixx Next does require some force, but once folded, the pushchair sits relatively compact - although if using it with the carrycot you’d need to remove this first.

When it comes to storage, the Nuna Mixx Next has an underseat basket with a 4.5kg capacity, which isn’t as generous as the likes of the UPPAbaby Vista V2 (see below), but is easy to access from all directions and provides plenty of space for your newborn essentials . It can even be split into two distinct compartments using the interior wall if required.

Standout value – the best travel system on the market for under £400

Lightweight

The seat converts to a lie-flat bassinet

Easy one-handed fold

Compact when folded

Height-adjustable handlebar

Rear-wheel suspension

Tricky to change seat position with a heavier child

Wide frame – hard to fit through narrow doorways

Straps can be fiddly and tricky to adjust

Quite heavy

Struggles a little on rough surfaces like gravel and sand

Two-handed fold

"The seat has very high sides even when not in carrycot mode so is snuggly and lovely for my daughter" - recommended by Mumsnet user, Njh1986

The Maxi-Cosi Zelia 2 pushchair may have one of the lowest price tags of all the travel systems on our list, but it's still up there in terms of both design and quality.

While the original Maxi-Cosi Zelia (now discontinued) was only suitable for babies up to 15kg, the Zelia 2 offers greater longevity, lasting until your baby weighs 22kg, which is approximately four years old. While slightly heavier than the original model, the shopping basket capacity has also increased from 2kg to 5kg, providing valuable additional storage space for your changing bag or other essentials during a day out with your baby.

One of the major selling points of the Maxi-Cosi Zelia 2 is the 2-in-1 seat that quickly converts into a newborn bassinet without the need to purchase a separate carrycot - ideal for those who are limited in storage space at home. Our parent tester loved this feature stating, “It saves space in the house and it means the carrycot doesn't become obsolete once your baby is sitting.” Weighing 10.4kg, it’s also a more lightweight option than some of the multi-terrain models such as the Mamas and Papas Ocarro (see below).

The lie-flat bassinet is suitable from birth and can easily be transformed into a pushchair seat when your baby reaches six months. With a comfortable padded inlay, it offers plenty of space and support for your child as they grow. Alternatively, the Maxi-Cosi Zelia 2 can be used with a compatible Maxi-Cosi car seat, such as the Mumsnet-recommended Maxi-Cosi Rock (using adapters) for a convenient transition between your car and the street.

Described as a compact, urban stroller, the Maxi-Cosi Zelia 2 is easy to steer and copes well with pavements and kerbs, however it may struggle off-road, such as on gravel, mud or sand. It’s also worth noting that while the handlebar height is adjustable, this is only by a small margin, so if you’re particularly tall you may find this pram less comfortable to push.

We like the significant coverage provided by the sun hood and, thanks to the viewing window, you can discreetly check on your baby without waking them if they nod off during your journey.

The fold requires two hands, but this is relatively straightforward to do. The pushchair clips together for compact storage and can self-stand. There’s also an in-built carry handle which can help distribute the weight should you need to carry it up and down the stairs.

We love the improvements to the basket when compared to the original Maxi-Cosi Zelia, which although a little trickier to access when being used in bassinet mode, offers plenty of storage space, with a discreet pocket inside to stash valuable items such as your keys and phone.

One-handed recline (this can be done in parent- or world-facing mode)

Lie-flat seat for smaller babies

Puncture-free tyres

Compact fold

Adjustable handlebar

Can be used with a buggy board

Carrycot is tricky to remove

Storage basket could be bigger

No extras included

"The Oyster was probably one of the most compact travel systems we found" - recommended by Mumsnet user, Anaesthetist83

“ I have the Oyster 3 and love it. It’s lightweight but sturdy and so easy to fold, my son always looks really comfortable. We didn’t use the carrycot part, the pram lies completely flat from birth so I didn’t feel we needed it” - rated by Mumsnet user Thetangleteaser

“ We have the full Oyster 3 bundle and it's great :) went for the Caviar/mirror colour and think it's very stylish” - rated by Mumsnet user Skywalkersweetie

If you're looking for a travel system to suit your growing family, then the Which? Best Buy BabyStyle Oyster 3 should be top of your list. This large, well-built pram is designed to last well into toddlerhood. With a choice of seven different colourways, it looks beautiful too.

With a maximum child weight of 22kg, which is around age four, this pushchair is suitable from birth, with a lie-flat seat, supportive head hugger and one-handed three-position recline. To use as a travel system, you can attach the Oyster 3 carrycot (sold separately) which offers a more spacious and comfortable lying position over longer durations with your newborn. For an easy transition straight from the car, car seats such as the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus can also be clipped onto the main chassis using the Oyster 3 car seat adapters (sold separately).

Compared to the original Oyster and Oyster 2 pushchairs, the Oyster 3 has had a major overhaul. Not only is it lighter with bigger wheels for improved handling, but it also boasts a more spacious seat, including a pop-out footrest and an adjustable harness that can better accommodate your child as they grow.

It’s worth noting that, as a result of the seat changes, it’s a little bigger than the previous model, but for convenience it now has a more compact fold, which can be triggered with the seat attached in both parent- and world-facing modes. You do need to use both hands to operate this, however the fold is smooth and simple, with a handy clip that prevents the chassis from springing open. While we wouldn’t recommend carrying the Oyster 3 regularly, there’s even an integrated carry strap for convenience should you need to.

The Oyster 3 has a soft padded handlebar that’s adjustable between 101cm and 111.5cm, making it easy to adapt to parents of varying heights. Thanks to the all-round suspension, the four puncture-free tyres also offer a really smooth ride for your baby.

Our parent tester rated the tight turning circle and a slim base, which made the Oyster 3 convenient for use on public transport and she found it performed well on urban terrains such as pavements and kerbs. Like many travel systems, it struggles more on bumpier or uneven ground, but there is the option to lock the front wheels - helpful when navigating across sand or mud.

Whatever the weather, the Oyster 3 can protect your baby from the elements. We rate the large UPF50+ sun hood with an extendable section to provide additional coverage when the seat is fully reclined. It also has a ventilation window which can keep your baby cool on warmer days. Unlike many pushchairs, the elasticated rain cover for the Oyster 3 (included with the travel system) is straightforward to fit should the weather take a sudden turn for the worse.

The storage basket is easy to access from all directions, and although more than adequate for most newborn essentials , the 3kg maximum capacity is relatively small when compared to the UPPAbaby Vista V2 or Nuna Mixx Next. That said, we love the inclusion of a discreet zipped storage pocket situated beneath the footrest - ideal for safely housing your keys and phone.

Stylish design

Easy to fold/unfold

Comes with lots of accessories

Comfortable height-adjustable handlebar

Spacious shopping basket

Large sun hood

Easy to switch between parent and world facing

Harness and straps tricky to adjust

Bulky and heavy

Brakes require some force

The seat is not particularly padded

“ I have the Venicci Tinum and love it. It is great to push on all terrain and managed much better than my friend’s Silver Cross when we went on a woodland walk - the bumping of her pram meant we had to turn back! I’m still using it with my 16-month-old forward-facing and I’m pregnant again and intend on keeping it to use as our single pram when my new baby is born” - recommended by Mumsnet user BabyBabyBaby123

“I have a Venicci Tinum 2.0. Really like it and find it's good on different surfaces, including woodland. The downside is that the basket underneath is not as big as some other makes/models. However, it's generally big enough for our needs” - rated by Mumsnet user ThePaperTrail

While you may be less familiar with the name, Italian brand Venicci is actually one of the leading suppliers of quality pushchairs , officially launching in the UK back in 2011. If you’re looking for a versatile option, the Venicci Tinum travel system makes an excellent choice, with a stylish and practical design combined with lots of additional accessories that make travelling with your baby a breeze.

With a reversible lie-flat seat, the Venicci Tinum 2.0 is suitable from birth to 22kg. The bundle includes the Tinum 2.0 carrycot and car seat, as well as a footmuff, rain cover, mosquito net, coordinating changing bag, changing mat and car seat adapters, meaning you’ve got pretty much everything you need to head out on travels with your baby in tow - whatever the weather may bring.

With some enhancements to the original Tinum, the Tinum 2.0 features a panoramic ventilation system to help keep your baby cool on sunnier days. It’s now easier to steer, even one-handed, tackling varied terrain well and navigating up and down kerbs without the need to exert too much effort despite its relatively heavy frame.

While the sideless seat isn’t as padded or cushioned as the Nuna Mixx or BabyStyle Oyster 3 , it has three different recline positions and can be used both world- and parent-facing depending on your preferences, or easily swapping between the two. It’s worth noting that although the straps are adjustable as your child grows, this is a manual process and can fiddly. That said, the integrated hood is quiet to operate and provides good sun coverage, with a handy viewing window that helps you keep a reassuring eye on your toddler when world-facing.

If you’re a taller or petite parent or sharing the travel system with your partner of a different height, you’ll love the adjustable handlebar height on the Venicci Tinum, which can be adjusted with one hand between 91 and 105cm - a far greater range than other travel systems such as the Maxi-Cosi Zelia 2.

The basket is a generous size and includes a zippable compartment for your valuables. While it’s stiff to operate, the centrally located brake is large and easily accessible - reassuring when travelling in busier surroundings.

Suitable from: Birth to 22kg | Orientation: Parent- and world-facing | Car seat compatible: Yes | Folded dimensions: H33.5  x W59 x D77.5 cm | Weight: 13.6kg | Basket size: 3kg | Extras included: Rain cover and bumper bar

Dual suspension

One-handed fold

Tackles off-road terrain well

Chunky, puncture-resistant tyres

Padded seat with pillow and chest pads

Reflective trim on wheels

A reassuring wrist strap on the handlebars

Large hood with ventilation

The basket can only be loaded from the back

Heavy to carry

Stiff five-point harness

"Absolutely love my Ocarro! It’s sturdy but easy to manoeuvre, well padded for a comfy baby, massive basket and can be folded one-handed (even with my baby in a sling!). Versatile as it’s slim enough for buses or shops aisles but with all-terrain wheels it can go anywhere ” - recommended by Mumsnet user Blueroses99

“Love our Ocarro! It is pretty heavy to lift when you have got it all folded up but I got used to lifting it in and out of the boot pretty quickly. I’ve used it on some pretty bumpy terrain and my baby has seemed comfy enough. 11 months in and I still love it and it looks like new still, so yes would recommend it!” - tried and tested by Mumsnet user DreamingofThailand

If you’re living in a more rural setting or enjoy heading on outdoor adventures with your baby in tow, you’ll need an all-terrain travel system that can navigate across a variety of surfaces with ease.

The Mamas & Papas Ocarro is a luxury, all-terrain pushchair designed for both comfort and stability. A Which? Best Buy, the Ocarro achieved an impressive score in lab testing and it’s also compatible with several Which? Best Buy car seats too, including the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Pro and Cybex Aton 5 .

Available alone or in bundles of varying sizes depending on your needs, the eight-piece combination pack offers excellent value for money, including the pushchair, adapters, carrycot, cupholder, footmuff, changing bag, Cybex car seat and even an ISOFIX base.

While it weighs over three kilograms heavier than some of the travel systems we tested (such as the Maxi-Cosi Zelia ), its robust frame, dual suspension and large all-terrain wheels ensure it can handle almost every terrain completely fuss-free,  from pavements and kerbs to woodland, sand and grass. While it’s narrow enough to fit through most doorways and manoeuvres well, it’s fairly heavy and bulky, so less suited to travel or for those looking for a lightweight stroller for public transport.

Thanks to the padded lie-flat seat with a supportive head hugger (or the Ocarro carrycot if you prefer), the Ocarro is suitable from birth and can see your child through to approximately four years old. The seat is also fully reversible, so you can easily switch between reassuring eye contact for your baby in parent-facing mode to the world-facing mode for your curious toddler who wants to take in their surroundings.

The soft and comfortable leatherette handlebar is a stylish addition, however it’s worth noting that, unlike the height flexibility on the Venicci Tinum and BabyStyle Oyster 3 , it can only be raised by a small margin - between 100.5 to 105cm. The brake also requires a fair bit of force and isn't particularly easy to operate wearing sandals or flip-flops.

We love the one-handed fold - something rarely seen in a multi-terrain pushchair. It can be folded with the seat attached in either direction and self-stands for convenience when folded, but it does take up a lot of space in your car. If you have a particularly small boot, you may find it easier to remove the seat first and store it as two separate pieces.

The sturdy and robust canopy hood with stylish metallic trim is definitely worth a mention. It offers excellent coverage for sunny days but can also be pushed back entirely to improve visibility.

While still large enough to house a changing bag, the 3kg basket on the Ocarro is actually on the small side compared to our other best travel system recommendations such as the Bugaboo Fox 5 and Nuna Mixx Next. It needs to be loaded from the back and is less accessible when using the carrycot as this sits at a relatively low height. That said, thanks to the clever catches on the Ocarro chassis, you can also conveniently stash your changing bag over the handlebar without it slipping down.

“A true workhorse, the Bugaboo Fox 5 tackles any terrain you throw at it, from muddy paths to gravel roads and even woodland trails. We tested them all. And as a parent who loves outdoor adventures, this is a game-changer” - MNHQ parent tester, Beccy

“ Bugaboo Fox! LOVEEEEEE ours - looking at buggies now for boot space at 15 months and none of them are as nice to push or use 😂” - rated by Mumsnet user FTM2022SS

Released in March 2023, the Bugaboo Fox 5 is the much-awaited and updated version of the Fox 3, which has a great reputation for tackling varied terrain.

The Bugaboo Fox 5 offers some big improvements to Fox’s much-loved design. It manoeuvres better than its predecessor, offers more storage capacity and has a higher seat and bassinet. It also has an easier-to-operate and more compact one-handed fold, with an extendable footrest and canopy to help adapt to your child’s needs as they grow.

We like the large puncture-proof wheels and bouncy suspension, which provide a comfortable ride for both newborns and toddlers. The pushchair performed exceptionally well on different terrain, including muddy paths, gravel roads and woodland trails, when our parent tester, Beccy, put it through its paces.

Although the fold took time for her to master, Beccy found the one-handed fold and unfold invaluable when out and about with her two children. The handlebar can be adjusted between 92 and 108cm so it’s easy to find the most comfortable setting for your height.

The generous 9kg storage basket with extendable flaps also adds to the appeal, with plenty of space to house a changing bag or your baby’s essentials. It is quite bulky when folded though, which means it might not be ideal if you have a small car boot.

The seat is easy to recline (almost a bit too easy, so approach with caution) and thanks to the large sun canopy, your baby will be safely shielded from the sun’s glare on bright sunny days.

While this buggy offers comfort in spades for newborns, the Fox 5 is unique in that the seat and carrycot come as one unit, which some parents may find impractical. Switching from the carrycot to the seat is quite fiddly (requiring the removal of the hood and swapping out the base), however you may only need to do this once and not until your baby reaches six months.

What Mumsnet users say

“I loooooooooooooooved my Vista. Was brilliant in every way” rated by Mumsnet user MartinMartinMarti

“I have the Vista and totally love it. Really sturdy and fab on all terrains, we have used it everywhere & never had any bother. My son is almost three and I'm about to have our second and can't wait to get even more use out of it. I'm tall & liked the height of the Vista. Yes, it is expensive but if you divide it up by cost per use it's good value!” - recommended by Mumsnet user Jem1979

“I adore my Vista. Yes, it’s a bit of a beast but it was so useful when we lived in a city and I didn’t drive. The undercarriage had plenty of room for the weekly shop plus all the day-to-day kid kit, and when we travelled by train to visit relatives we shoved all the luggage under there. Would defo recommend it” - tried and tested by Mumsnet user RoseAndGeranium

Our verdict

Tested by Mumsnet: Read our full UPPAbaby Vista V2 review

Suitable from birth when used with the included carrycot, or from six months as a standalone pushchair, the UPPAbaby Vista V2 can see you through until your child reaches 22 kg (around four years). The spacious seat offers plenty of room for your growing child and can be placed in both directions - opting for parent-facing when your baby is younger before switching to world-facing when they want to explore their surroundings.

An upgrade from the original UPPAbaby Vista, Vista 2 has seen some big improvements to the pushchair seat. While Which? lab testing felt that the padding was on the thin side, UPPAbaby has extended the height of the backrest and provided a longer footrest to better accommodate your child as they grow. The sun hood now has a ventilated extension panel for enhanced sun coverage and the five-point safety harness is now fully adjustable without needing to be rethread, although this does create some hanging excess.

Whilst the pushchair is only suitable from the age of six months, the UPPAbaby Vista V2 comes with a newborn carrycot included in the cost. It’s also compatible with the UPPAbaby Mesa i-Size Infant Car Seat or with brands such as Maxi-Cosi and Cybex if you purchase separate car seat adapters.

For parents, the handlebar offers some height adjustment (between 101 and 108cm), allowing you to tailor the experience to each parent. The one-handed recline is easy to operate, with a choice of six different positions and a fully adjustable leg rest that can support your child as they grow. That said, the seat fabric is much less padded than travel systems such as the Nuna Mixx Next and BabyStyle Oyster 3 , so it’s better suited to short journeys than full days exploring with your baby.

The flip-flop-friendly brake has colour indicators for peace of mind, offering quick visual reassurance that the brake has been properly engaged. When you’ve reached your destination, folding the Vista 2 away requires two hands due to its weight, however it clips together once folded for secure and compact storage.

We love the enhancements to the sun hood, with a large UPF50+ canopy that provides extensive shade coverage. It has an expandable section that can keep your baby protected from the sun’s rays even when fully reclined. The mesh viewing window is also a great feature, allowing you to check on your baby while they nap without the risk of disturbing them.

By far the most impressive feature on the Vista 2, however, is the shopping basket - the biggest shopping basket we’ve seen. The UPPAbaby Vista V2 basket can hold a significant 13.6kg, which is a big plus point when you’re stocking up on the best nappies at the supermarket. The basket is four times greater than that of the Oyster 3, although the chassis does run through the middle, so it requires a bit of spacial awareness when storing larger items. We love that it’s accessible from all directions as well as the smaller pockets for stashing your valuables.

8. Best travel system for easy fold: Joie Versatrax

Pushchair price: £289 | Latest deals from Boots

Bundle price from £665 | Latest deals from John Lewis

Suitable from: Birth to 22kg | Orientation: Parent and world facing | Car seat compatible: Yes | Folded dimensions: H81.5 x W64.5 x D36.5cm | Weight: 11.8kg | Basket capacity: 4.5kg | Extras included: Cup holder

One-handed recline

Easy to fold

Reversible seat

Tackles a variety of terrain

Comes with a cup holder and carry strap

Large shopping basket

No locking catch

Removing the car seat can be a little tricky

“ We have it and I love it! It’s really easy to put up/fold down, baby seems to be comfy and it's really smooth to push” - recommended by Mumsnet user Amipreg1

“ I have had the Versatrax from newborn and love it. It folds really easily and fits in the boot of my Mini. I haven’t noticed a bumpy ride, either when using the carrycot or the actual pram. I found it easy to put the carrycot on and off when he was tiny and I clipped the car seat onto the frame which was harder to get on and off. Now that I use the actual seat it looks lovely and I love that you can have it facing both ways” - tried and tested by Mumsnet user Tealandteal

“ I have the Versatrax and really like it. Giant basket, folds easily forward- and rear-facing, easy to manoeuvre on most terrain. I think it is really good value for money” - rated by Mumsnet user Clicheinaqashqai

If a quick and easy fold is high on your travel system wish list, then the Joie Versatrax is certainly worth a look. Suitable from birth to four years old and sold as part of a travel system bundle for under £700, it offers excellent value for money. As a Which? Best Buy, the Versatrax also scored highly in their lab tests, with a quick and easy fold that can be triggered with the seat attached in either direction.

Mumsnet users praise this travel system for its effortless fold. This can even be done one-handed - ideal if you’re out and about with your baby and toddler in tow. Once folded, the Verstrax sits relatively compact and can self-stand.

The pushchair is heavy though, and while we wouldn’t recommend carrying it far, the integrated carry strap can spread the load for simple transportation to and from your car. If we’re being really critical, we would have loved a locking catch to hold the chassis securely in place when folded.

The Joie Versatrax is suitable from birth thanks to its lie-flat seat, but you can also buy the Joie Ramble XL carrycot for extra-comfy strolls with your newborn. The Versatrax is also compatible with a variety of Joie infant car seats, including the i-Gemm and i-Snug , both of which clip to an ISOFIX base in your car (sold separately) to meet the enhanced i-Size car seat safety regulations .

Unclipping the carrycot is quick and simple to do, however some reviewers have found the car seat trickier to detach due to the simultaneous lift and press of a release button. The pushchair seat is comfortable and roomy for your baby and, although a little fiddly, the strap length can be adjusted child to your child as they get taller. The seat itself is a little thin, but it has good padding across the back and harness, with a removable bumper bar for your baby to grab on to as they get bigger.

Thanks to the all-wheel suspension, the Versatrax is easy to steer across most surfaces, with a relatively small turning circle and the ability to be pushed one-handed. The heavy design makes kerbs a bit more of an effort and, while not an all-terrain pushchair, the lockable front wheels are a big help when tackling rough terrains such as gravel and mud. The handlebar can also be adjusted to a comfortable height for each user and sandal wearers can rejoice as the brake is even flip-flop-friendly.

We love the shopping basket on the Versatrax (which at 4.5kg is about average for a travel system of this size). It’s easy to access from all directions even when the pushchair seat is fully reclined, and has an internal pocket to keep smaller items close to hand.

9. Best travel system for design: Babystyle Egg2

Pushchair price: £879 | Latest deals from John Lewis

Bundle price from £1499 | Latest deals from John Lewis

Suitable from: Birth to 25kg | Orientation: Parent- and world-facing | Car seat compatible: Yes | Folded dimensions: H67.5 x D64 x W45cm | Weight: 15.3kg | Basket capacity: 3kg | Extras included: Rain cover

Good longevity with a high maximum weight of 25kg

Can be converted to a double for twins

Highly manoeuvrable and easy to steer

Three-position recline

Easy to adjust the harness

Tackles varied terrain

The car seat requires some strength to remove

Basket is shallow

Need to remove the seat before folding

Car seat adapters not included

“ I love my Egg2. The suspension is great for all types of terrain: woods, pavement, bumpy roads, etc. My baby is happy in it since she was a newborn. Although it’s heavy, the size is not too big for getting onto the bus or train. My car is a small KIA RIO, and it fits alright. With its adjustable height, it suits both petite (me) and tall (husband) really well” - recommended by Mumsnet user Indoinuk

“ We absolutely love it. It is a very sturdy pushchair but very compact for walking around shops and using on public transport. We mainly use ours for walking along pavements although it has worked absolutely fine for use on country roads and even off-road in the local woodland. It is an expensive travel system, however that is really shown in the quality of it. My [child] is almost four years old and has been used extensively in that time but it still looks and feels brand new.“ - rated by Mumsnet user stormelf

If you want a travel system that really stands out from the crowd, you’ll love the unique and stylish design of the Egg2.

An upgrade from the original Egg stroller, the new Egg2 travel system features some exciting improvements. The new design has a larger-sized seat which not only sits slightly higher on the chassis but also has a taller back and an easy-adjust harness to support your child as they grow.

Built with practicality in mind, the Egg2 also has an increased basket size and the ability to self-stand when folded - preventing any unwanted damage to the handlebar or chassis when you’re packing it away. And if that's not enough, the wheels on the Egg2 are also slightly larger, helping it perform better across more challenging terrain compared to its predecessor.

With a distinctive design, this stylish pushchair is suitable for babies from six months through to an impressive 25kg, which could be up to five years of age - the highest capacity travel system we’ve featured. For younger babies, however, you’ll need to attach the Egg2 carrycot, with a soft cushioned mattress suitable for up to nine months, or clip on the aptly named Egg Shell car seat . It’s worth noting though that car seat adapters aren’t included, so you’ll need to factor this in as an extra when considering the overall purchase price.

With a robust and sturdy design, the Egg2 weighs in at a substantial 15.5kg - over 5kg heavier than the heaviest travel system on our list - which may be off-putting to some. Despite its weight, it’s surprisingly easy to steer, with a small turning circle and the ability to be steered one-handed, even across grass, gravel and mud. The four-wheel suspension tackles kerbs with ease, without jolting or waking your baby.

Folding does take some practice due to the multiple steps involved. Unlike the BabyStyle Oyster 3 and Nuna Mixx Next which can fold with the seat attached in either direction, the Egg2 carrycot or pushchair seat need to be fully removed from the frame before you can fold it away. Once folded, the Egg2 frame sits relatively compact and self stands without taking up too much space in your car.

While it's on the higher end of the price scale for a travel system, this is certainly noticeable in its modern and stylish design, with great attention to detail including a height adjustable leatherette handlebar and matt chassis.

Unlike some travel systems which have wheels that can look plasticity, the tri-spoke design on the Egg2’s puncture-free tyres is quite the opposite. They even leave a unique egg-shaped tread - a novel but lovely touch. There’s even an easily accessible flip-flop-friendly brake which uses only the base of your foot, so no squishing your toes in the process.

The basket capacity could be bigger considering the pushchair’s size, with a 3kg capacity which can fill quickly due to its shallow design. We like the sun hood, however, which not only offers excellent coverage but uses magnets for the viewing window - so no loud crunch of rip tape that risks waking your baby when you take a peak.

10. Best travel system for country living: Cybex Priam

Pushchair price: Chassis £819.95 and seat pack £179.95  | Latest deals at John Lewis

Bundle price from £1,667.85 | Latest deals at Mamas & Papas

Suitable from: Birth to 22kg | Orientation:  Parent facing or world facing | Car seat compatible: Yes | Folded dimensions: 43 x 60 x 95cm | Weight: 13.6kg | Basket capacity: 5kg | Extras included: Rain cover and car seat adaptors

Suitable for varied terrain

Adjustable handlebar height

A removable bumper bar for easy placement

Heavy and bulky

Significant initial assembly

The slim narrow seat could be outgrown quite quickly

Doesn’t lock once folded

Less suitable for public transport

“ Priam. Such a great pram, we love it. Well made and sturdy, good for country walks.” recommended by Mumsnet user Anewhoo

“ I have it and really love it so far. The carrycot is really spacious and has zips to provide mesh ventilation on the sides. You can also clip the car seat in (we have Cloud Z). The manoeuvrability is absolutely brilliant - you can turn it in really tight spaces. When folded it’s pretty compact. We do have to pop a wheel off when putting it into the boot (we have Seat Ibiza) which isn’t really an issue as they just click in/out. Honestly, I’ve not got any cons so far apart from it being expensive but you get what you pay for and I’m very happy with it” - rated by Mumsnet user Nat4392

The robust Cybex Priam comes well regarded amongst Mumsnet users and online reviewers. Thanks to its sturdiness, it’s a popular choice for parents living in a more rural or countryside setting. An updated version of the original Priam from 2019, the 2022 edition offers several big improvements including a one-handed adjustable harness, revised seat design and a carrycot that sits higher up on the chassis.

Due to the lie-flat recline, the Priam 2022 is suitable from birth through to 22kg, but the seat is narrow so you may find your child outgrows it sooner than age four. The seat can be used parent- or world-facing and, to ensure a comfortable ride for your baby, you can switch between four different recline positions and three leg rest positions.

As a travel system, the Priam 2022 can be combined with the spacious Cybex Priam Lux carrycot (suitable until around nine months of age) or the Cybex Cloud T i-Size baby car seat using the included adapters - ideal when moving your newborn to and from the car.

While it's not an all-terrain pushchair, the Cybex Priam 2022 handles the majority of surfaces well with the exception of sand. Its weighty design is less suited to public transport but can navigate well around pavements and kerbs, as well as tackle trickier terrain such as gravel and grass with relative ease. The handlebar height can be set between 99 and 109cm and is easy to adjust when switching between parents or caregivers.

The fold has several steps, but is relatively straightforward, folding to a compact size that won’t exhaust all the space in your boot. At 13.6kg, however, it’s quite bulky to lift and one of the heavier travel systems on our list.

We love the large central brake pedal which is quick and easy to operate. The included rain cover is simple to install and the generously sized sun hood offers more than adequate sun protection, although you may find the sideless design of the seat can let through some glare. Thanks to the magnetic viewing window, you can keep a close eye on your baby even when the seat is world-facing.

We’re less keen on the storage basket’s slanted design, which feels restrictive in terms of space, despite its 5kg capacity. That said, you will find some additional small pockets of storage on the back of the seat - a great way to keep your phone close to hand.

11. Best lightweight travel system: Nuna Triv Next

Pushchair price: from £600 | Latest deals from Boots

Bundle price from £950 | Latest deals from Boots

Suitable from: Birth to 22kg | Orientation: Parent facing or world facing | Car seat compatible: Yes | Folded dimensions: 36 x 59 x 66cm | Weight: 9.2kg | Basket capacity: 4.5kg | Extras included: Rain cover

Large basket

Adjustable handlebar height

Smooth on varied terrain

Large sun hood

Can’t be folded one-handed

The hood can be noisy when pulled out

“I absolutely love it! It's been perfect for us. The fold is so quick and easy, and my little girl is always really comfortable in it, very decent-sized shopping basket underneath reclines flat for naps, it also handles some rough terrain (bumpy grass, rougher pebbly floors etc) but does not huge ditches or anything.” - tried and tested by Mumsnet user MamaMiaOhDear

The second Nuna pram featured in our round-up of the best travel systems is the Nuna Triv Next - another Which? Best Buy that achieved the highest lab score of all the products on this list. An upgrade from the original Nuna Triv, the latest edition comes with an even lighter frame and updated wheels for improved handling across varied terrain.

Suitable from birth to 22kg, the pushchair can be used parent-facing or world-facing, and reclines to one of four different positions, including a lie-flat option for newborns. Alternatively, you can combine the chassis with the comfortable padded Nuna Triv Series carrycot or the Nuna Triv car seat when travelling with a younger baby.

Despite weighing just 9.2kg, the Nuna Triv Next performs surprisingly well over rough terrain thanks to the robust rear wheel suspension, with the ability to navigate across gravel and woodland areas without any significant bumping. We love the five different height options on the leatherette handlebar, allowing for a safe and comfortable hold for parents of different heights.

Whilst the relatively simple fold does require two hands, the result is a compact and lightweight pushchair that’s easy to carry thanks to the locking clasp and integrated carry handle. As a result, Triv Next is a practical choice for those travelling regularly on public transport.

The generously sized sun hood can be a little noisy to extend, but is also water-repellent (ideal for those scattered showers) and provides good shade coverage, with a viewing window for discrete checks on your baby while they nap. We love the spacious 4.5kg storage basket which has elasticated sides and can be accessed from all directions, along with the extra zipped storage pocket to the rear of the seat.

12. Best travel system for city living: Bugaboo Dragonfly

Pushchair price: £695 | Buy now from Kiddies Kingdom

Bundle price from £945 | Buy now from Bugaboo

Tested by parents : Read our full Bugaboo Dragonfly review

Suitable from: Birth to 22kg | Orientation: Parent- and world-facing | Car seat compatible: Yes | Folded dimensions: One-piece self-standing fold with seat 36 x 52 x 90cm; one-piece self-standing fold with carrycot 32 x 52 x 90cm | Weight: 7.9-10.4kg | Basket capacity: 10kg plus extra 2.5kg when rear pocket is placed on handlebar | Extras included: Integrated carry strap; Parasol+ attachment clip

Carrycot can be collapsed with the buggy

Excellent storage

Rear storage pocket can be detached and hung on the handlebar

Freestanding when folded

Huge sun canopy with extra extension for sunny days

Sliding, easy-to-adjust five-point harness

Stiff and clunky recline

Takes time to master the fold

No rain cover included

"My daughter enjoys a ride in the Bugaboo Dragonfly and has fallen asleep in the toddler seat multiple times. She likes gripping onto the bumper bar when on the move, and the number of recline angles on the seat means she always sits or lays comfortably" - parent tester, Laura

A great option for those travelling around an urban environment on foot, the Bugaboo Dragonfly is designed specifically for city life. With a relatively lightweight frame, this buggy is much lighter than many other travel systems (with the exception of the Nuna Triv Next and Maxi-Cosi Zelia 2).

Released in June 2023, the Bugaboo Dragonfly features a sliding harness, large extendable sun canopy, leather grip height-adjustable handlebar and huge storage basket with a rear storage pocket that detaches from the basket to be hung on the handlebars like a changing bag .

While the claim of a one-handed fold is debatable, the pushchair can self-stand once folded, making it easier to carry and store at home or on public transport. It also folds down with the carrycot attached - the first of its kind and a game-changer in the newborn days.

Thanks to its light frame, the Bugaboo Dragonfly is agile and easy to manoeuvre, with a small turning circle that makes it ideal for navigating through crowded city streets or narrow shop aisles.

Its large brake pedal is easy to engage. Parent tester, Laura, says, "The brake is one of the easiest I've used and holds effectively. You simply press the brake down with your foot to engage and disengage it, and this can even be done barefoot or with flip-flops."

As you may expect, however, the Bugaboo Dragonfly doesn’t fair quite so well as other travel systems on uneven ground and struggles in particular when it comes to bumping up kerbs.

What is a travel system?

A travel system is a pushchair that allows you to remove the seat or carrycot and replace it with a baby car seat .

Tailored specifically to newborn babies, a travel system can be bought as a standalone pushchair or as part of a bundle, either a 2-in-1 travel system, featuring a pushchair and carrycot, or a 3-in-1 travel system which also has a baby (Group 0+) car seat.

With the ability to attach a Group 0+ car seat (suitable from birth to 12 months), a travel system allows you to move your baby seamlessly from car to pram without disturbing them. The carrycot accessory is a convenient lie-flat option for your newborn that allows your baby to sleep while on the go, ensuring clear airways and healthy hip and spine alignment at all times.

The size and weight of traditional travel systems (and in many cases the hefty price tag) means they're not for everyone, so it’s important to consider your lifestyle and habits when making your choice.

How we chose and tested the best travel systems

Over 100 hours of research and testing

Tested with real parents

Consumer-recommended

To ensure we're only recommending the very best travel systems, we first looked to the Mumsnet forums , home to 10 million users a month, to get the lowdown on the travel systems real parents rate and would recommend to others.

We then branched out to the wider web, collated reliable and honest consumer feedback from retail sites and bestseller lists. We also spoke to pushchair and baby travel experts from trusted organisations such as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) as well as local NCT groups.

To round out our research, we consulted the views of consumer champion Which? to discover how each travel system performed in their impartial lab testing environment.

Finally, wherever possible, we tested the travel systems ourselves, using a comprehensive testing and scoring system to highlight the best-performing products across the board. Specifically, we tested for safety and stability, assembly, ease of use, comfort, cleaning, materials and value for money.

What is the difference between a pram, a pushchair, a buggy and a travel system?

The terms are often used interchangeably, but there are some key differences between a pram, pushchair, buggy and travel system.

Pram: A pram is a lie-flat travel solution, with a bassinet-style carry cot that allows your baby to lie in a more natural sleeping position. Prams are generally tailored towards newborns and young babies, suitable up to the age of around six months.

Pushchair: Pushchairs offer additional flexibility as your child grows. Once they can sit up unaided (from around six months), your baby may transition from a pram to a pushchair, with the ability to sit more upright and visually explore their surroundings. With modern designs, many pushchairs now offer a lie-flat option that also makes them suitable from birth.

Buggy: The phrase buggy is often used as a catch-all phrase to describe a variety of products, but most commonly refers to a lightweight stroller that offers practical short-term travel solutions. A buggy tends to be less feature-rich and less able to tackle varied terrain, but is often cheaper and easier to store, with an umbrella fold or compact designs that can be stashed out of sight when not in use.

Travel system : A travel system is a versatile choice and a practical option for parents who will be regularly switching between their car and travelling on foot. Parents can choose between a 3-in-1 travel system or a 2-in-1 travel system depending on their preference. In addition to a pushchair, a 2-in-1 travel system bundle includes a carrycot, which can be clipped onto the chassis as a lie-flat solution for newborns till around six months of age. 3-in-1 travel systems also include a car seat and will often require adapters to link to the main frame of the pushchair.

Do I need a travel system?

Because travel systems can be bulky and expensive, it’s worth checking whether or not you actually need one.

If you often travel by car, a travel system will save you time and energy when out and about with your baby as you'll be able to easily remove and attach a car seat.

With a parent-facing carrycot attachment, and sometimes even the main seat unit itself, you'll also be able to lie your child completely flat, which will ensure that they are safe and secure at all times.

If you rarely use a car, or if you know you’ll be on and off public transport daily, then a lightweight buggy may be a more suitable option.

Some lightweight pushchairs, such as the Bugaboo Dragonfly can, however, be used as a travel system, which may just give you the best of both worlds.

Should babies lie flat in a pram?

To be suitable from birth, your pram or pushchair seat needs to recline into a ‘lie flat’ position - as close to 180 degrees as possible. This is because an upright seat can actually restrict your baby’s airways and reduce the amount of oxygen in their bloodstream due to the position of their head and neck.

Some pushchairs are only suitable for use from six months and, as such, require the addition of a carrycot or car seat to be suitable from birth. It’s worth remembering that your baby should not be kept in a car seat for longer than two hours at a time, and should be removed at the earliest opportunity once you’ve reached your destination.

How much do travel systems cost.

Prices range from £250 to over £1,000 and most come as part of a bundle, which could save you money in the long run.

More expensive models may come with a multitude of added extras – think footmuffs, buggy boards and general customisable features – but this will, of course, increase the cost.

What should I look for when buying a travel system?

Here are some important questions to ask yourself when considering which travel system is right for you:

What does the price include and what is my budget? First up, how much are you willing to spend on your travel system? Consider what elements you will benefit from the most before deciding between a 2-in-1 bundle with a carrycot, or a 3-in-1 bundle with a carrycot and car seat. Some travel systems can be purchased for under £400, but for more luxury designs or bundles with more accessories, you can easily spend £1,000 or more.

What is the weight limit? What is the maximum weight capacity for the pushchair? The vast majority of travel systems can accommodate children up to 22kg (approximately four years) however some stop at 15kg, so it’s worth checking the specifications with care.

How easy is it to attach a carrycot or car seat? Does this require adapters and if so, are they included? Can this be done one-handed? If you’re going to be out and about on your own with your baby, it’s important you can attach and remove the car seat and carrycot without assistance.

What are the seat recline options? How many recline settings does the pushchair element of the travel system offer, and is there a lie-flat option suitable for use with your newborn? Can the recline be triggered one-handed and with your baby already in the seat? Some travel systems have back recline options only, whereas others can adjust the angle of the footrest too - a helpful feature when travelling with older babies and toddlers.

Can the seat be switched between parent- and world-facing? Most parents prefer to use their pushchair in parent-facing mode initially, enabling good eye contact and helping you keep a close eye on your baby whilst travelling. As your baby gets older, however, they may become curious about exploring their surroundings, so switching to world-facing can provide them with a better view. If your travel system pushchair has a viewing window in the hood, this can be helpful to allow regular checks that your baby is calm and content.

Is it roomy enough? As well as the weight limits, it's important to consider the style, size and shape of the seat. Some travel systems such as the Cybex Priam are quite narrow and may be outgrown sooner than their specification suggests.

Does it have a five-point harness? How secure is the harness and is it padded for a comfortable fit? It’s also worth considering how easy it is to adjust the harness height as your baby grows. On some travel systems, this will be a simple, one-handed adjustment, while others will require some rethreading.

How easy is it to fold? Can the fold be achieved one-handed and if not, how many steps are involved? Does the seat need to be removed beforehand? Is the process fairly intuitive or is it a case of practice makes perfect? It’s also worth considering whether the fold requires physical strength - something which will be even more important if you’re recovering from a c-section .

How compact is the fold? What are the dimensions of the pushchair once folded? Will it fit into the boot of my car or on public transport and does it have a safety clasp to hold it securely in place once folded?

How easy is it to push and steer? How easy is the pushchair to steer and can it cope with varied terrain? It’s worth considering the type of surfaces you will be travelling on most regularly. For city dwellers, most travel systems can navigate across pavements and down kerbs with ease, whereas you may need an all-terrain pushchair if you’re planning on taking your travel system to the beach or local woods.

How heavy is it to carry? How much does the travel system weigh and are you able to lift this yourself, whether that’s to and from the car or onto public transport? Some travel systems include an integrated carry handle and while it's not something you’ll want to use regularly, this can help distribute the weight when carrying up and down the stairs at home.

Is the handle height adjustable? Is the handlebar height fixed, or can this be adjusted to suit the parent? Most travel systems offer some handlebar adjustment, but to what margin will depend upon the brand. If you are particularly petite or tall, it's worth checking the lowest and highest height settings to ensure it’s comfortable to push.

What's the brake like? How easy is the brake to trigger and is it flip-flop friendly? Some central brakes can disrupt your strides when walking quickly but are easier to access if you need to stop in an emergency. If you regularly wear sandals and flip-flops, you’re best to look for brakes that don’t require lifting up with the top of your foot to release.

How big is the storage basket? One of the biggest variations between travel systems is the size of the storage basket, with our choices ranging from a 3kg capacity to over 13kg. As well as the capacity, you should look at the size and shape of the basket, whether it can be accessed from multiple angles, and whether it is still accessible when used with the carrycot. Some travel systems also offer additional storage such as pockets on the back or footrest.

Does it come with a rain cover? We can always rely on the British weather to treat us to an unexpected downpour so an included rain cover is a handy accessory to protect your baby from the elements. If it’s not included, how much do they cost to buy as an optional extra? How easy is the rain cover to attach and can this be done quickly when the heavens open?

Will the sun hood provide enough protection? Is it extendable? On warmer days, it’s important to keep the sun out of your baby’s face where possible. A good travel system will have a large sun hood or canopy, ideally with UPF50+ protection and an extendable section that provides coverage even when the seat is fully reclined.

How easy is the travel system to clean? What fabric is the seat of your travel system made from? Can the covers be removed for easy cleaning, or is it spot clean only?

What does it look like? Does it come in colours I like? While it's not the most important factor, the overall look and feel of your travel system is still something to consider, as you’ll want to feel confident when out and about with your baby. What colour choices are available? Is it a modern or traditional design? Do the fabrics and chassis look high quality and luxurious?

Can I convert it to a double buggy or fit a buggy board? If you’re planning on growing your family, it’s worth considering whether the travel system could be easily converted to a double buggy , or whether a buggy board can be attached to the back. The latter is a great option for toddlers who may tire easily when walking on foot, whilst still encouraging some independence.

What are the wheels like? What are the wheels made from and are they puncture-free?

Can it handle off-roading? Does the travel system pushchair have any built-in suspension to tackle more off-road terrains? For more lightweight travel systems that don’t claim to be all-terrain, it’s worth looking for a lockable front wheel, as this can provide greater resistance against gravel and mud.

How easy is it to assemble and take apart? Finally, for the flatpackphobes amongst us, how easy is it to get started with your travel system? Does it require any significant assembly before use and if so, how intuitive is it and are the steps easy to follow? Some travel systems also feature convertible carrycots, so if you are repelled by the prospect of following an instruction manual, you may want to opt for a design with a separate stand-alone carrycot

Travel system safety advice from RoSPA

We spoke to Nick Lloyd, Acting Head of Road Safety at The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), for some safety advice when buying a travel system:

Always buy from a reputable shop or website. Don’t try to get a cheap deal as you don’t know if you’ll be buying the real branded item or a copy

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how to fit and use the travel system

Don’t leave your baby in the car seat for more than two hours (30 minutes if your child is a low birth weight or has medical problems). This can cause fatalities

To help you make sense of the world of baby transportation systems, below we reveal our top tips on the key consideration when looking for a pram, buggy or pushchair. This is followed by our choices of the best prams on the market to suit all needs and price ranges.

Best prams, baby buggies and pushchairs: At a glance

  • Best all-rounder: Stokke Xplory X | £1,159
  • Best off-road pushchair: Cybex Priam | £923
  • Best affordable travel system: Kinderkraft XMoov 3-in-1 | £299

How to choose the best pram, buggy or pushchair for you and your baby

Generally speaking, a pram is most suitable for a newborn baby because these options can lay fully flat. A buggy/pushchair/stroller is typically forward-facing – although not always – and ideal once children are sitting confidently from the age of around six months.

You may choose to buy a pram for your young baby and swap that for a buggy once they’re sitting happily. However, the majority choose convertible models that take children from birth up to walking age. These convertible buggies either feature reversible designs with seats that can lie flat and face forward and backwards, or modular systems that allow you to attach a carrycot. Our list includes both convertible and standalone models.

What is the best size for my pram or buggy?

If you have plenty of space at your disposal in your home and a big car, and you’re not a frequent user of public transport, then a large and luxurious buggy will transport your little one in comfort. Otherwise, a lighter and slimmer model that you can easily lift onto the bus or tube, or that can be loaded into the car boot with ease (and perhaps even with one hand), will be a better option.

A complete travel system with a variety of attachments and accessories such as a carrycot, baby seat and car seat that fit onto the basic buggy frame can be a convenient option for drivers, but consider where you will store the attachments when they’re not in use.

What other features should I look for?

Nowadays, there are strollers for just about any situation. If you’re expecting twins or planning a sibling within a year or two of your first, there are models that have expansion built into the design, converting a single pram into a double, and saving you money in the long run. If you’re an avid runner and would like to continue jogging once baby arrives, you can opt for a running buggy , which comes with large wheels and a stable design that’s specifically made for the job.

Your choice of pram or pushchair may optionally include a rain cover, carrycot, car seat, a buggy muff or cosy-toes for the baby, as well as a hand muff for you, a cup-holder, a buggy board, or a number of extras that may make your life easier (and less expensive, if it means you don’t have to purchase these separately). Budget models are less likely to include all these extras, so check what your buggy does and doesn’t include before you buy.

How we test prams

There’s a lot to think about when buying a pram, but you can be sure that our hands-on tests deliver the most honest and comprehensive information about a product. Our reviewers are parents themselves, so they understand first-hand the questions that need answering before making such an important purchase.

As such, each pram in the list is put through its paces at home and while out and about, running everyday chores. We assess each model for everything from ease of assembly, to the effort required to push it, its suitability for different age groups, and the quality and finish of a pram’s fabrics. We also look at how a pram manoeuvres on and off pavements, how small it folds down, and if you can carry it up and down stairs easily. Our list comprises prams that are suitable for newborns, strollers for toddlers, and models that are ideal for travel. You’ll find the key specs of each pram included at the bottom for quick comparison.

The best prams, buggies and pushchairs you can buy in 2024

1. stokke xplory x: best all-rounder.

best travel system pushchairs uk

Granted, you may pay a bit more for Stokke products, but for the extra money you get a whole load of additional features, advanced comfort, stylish design, reliability, durability and optimal customer support.

Superseding the original Xplory V6 model, which was all the rage for many years with yummy mummies everywhere (and, quite frankly, still is), the Xplory X released in 2021 delivers the same high quality and style we’ve come to expect from this top brand.

This sturdy pushchair has large and heavy swivel wheels with a secure grip that makes it effortless to manoeuvre with just one hand. It features luxury woven fabrics and sleek lines, and there’s a lot of plush cushioning around the ergonomically designed seat as well as in the area that will be around the baby’s head. This sleek pushchair is also conveniently compatible with the separate infant car seat and carrycot.

Add to this superior safety features, reclining back positions, an adjustable footrest and an extendable, water-repellent SPF 50+ canopy to keep the wind, rain and sun out. Thanks to its mesh design, it also provides snug comfort in the winter while also being well ventilated during the warmer months. It doesn’t have a fixed basket underneath, but there’s something better: a clever, removable shopping bag with plenty of room for belongings, which can be sealed shut to protect your purchases from the elements.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 months to 22kg; Wheels: Lockable swivel wheels; Folded dimensions: 105 x 47.5 x 56cm; Unfolded dimensions: 131 x 100.5 x 56cm; Weight: 13.4kg

2. Babyzen YOYO²: Best pram overall

best travel system pushchairs uk

The Babyzen YOYO² is the latest update to the incredibly popular original. The main selling point of the YOYO² is its super-light design, which can be stored in the smallest of spaces (such as a cupboard, a small car boot or overhead aeroplane compartment), and is also easy to fold down or flip out again while carrying a child.

The stroller weighs just 6.2kg, and it can also be paired with the newborn pack or bassinet for use from birth. What we love about this pram is that, despite its low weight, it still feels premium, featuring soft fabric and a sturdy frame. Once folded down, the pram can easily be carried over the shoulder using the attached strap.

While this pram is brilliant as it comes, you can customise it depending on your needs, with add-ons including a foot muff, Isofix base for the YoYo car seat, and a buggy board. We used it while abroad in sunnier climes with the detachable parasol, which worked brilliantly over a few days of sightseeing. And it took up barely any space in our suitcase.

So, while many other prams that are designed for travel and convenience try to match the YOYO, in our opinion this remains the best in class for its light, clever, compact design.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 months to 22kg; Wheels: Swivel wheels; Folded dimensions: 52 × 44 × 18cm (HWD); Unfolded dimensions: 106 x 44 x 86cm (HWD); Weight: 6.2kg (13.6lbs) in the 6+ version, 6.6kg (14.5 lbs) with the newborn pack or 8.1 kg (17.8 lbs) with the bassinet

3. iCandy Orange 3 Designer Collection Crush: Best luxury pushchair

best travel system pushchairs uk

The latest addition to iCandy’s premium pushchair line is the Orange 3, updated in a luxurious Black Crush fabric. iCandy is brilliant when it comes to thoughtful design, with this pram no exception; the model arrives with a super-comfy padded seat, a lightweight, streamlined frame, and matte-black chassis frame. We found that not only was this a lovely pram to push as a result of its soft suspension, but it kept our little one secure and comfortable during on-the-go naps. The integrated ride-on board (which is an iCandy signature) was also invaluable for nursery and school pick-ups, negating the need for a bulky buggy board.

There are tons of other great features to shout about, such as a generous 64-litre basket at the base, SPF50+ ventilated canopy, and optimised tyre tread that makes it ideal for on and off-road terrain. The travel system also comes with a carrycot and three-position reclining seat that can be easily switched with adapters. The freestanding fold also sees the pram collapse with the seat unit and bumper bar still attached, which is always a huge plus.

The downside is its high price tag, although it’s expected from a premium brand such as iCandy. While you may find some of the features included here in more affordable models, we don’t think you can beat the iCandy Orange 3 for overall style. The new textured velour fabric, for instance, is a lovely touch that really sets it apart from the competition.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 months to 25kg; Wheels: Lockable swivel wheels with optimised tyre tread; Folded dimensions: 85 x 61 x 60cm; Unfolded dimensions: 83 x 38 x 22cm; Weight: 12.1kg

4. Nuna Mixx Next: Best runner-up

best travel system pushchairs uk

Cleverly designed and springy enough to ride over all sorts of terrain, the Nuna Mixx Next is a stylish pushchair with outstanding suspension and the scope to work as a complete travel system. Improving on the original Nuna Mixx, this update makes an already excellent pushchair even better, with improved suspension and rubber tyres on the wheels for better manoeuvrability making it rugged and bouncy enough to manage most environments. It also includes a neat extra feature: the back wheels retract when you fold it up.

The Mixx Next also self-stands when folded and the seat can be popped out and replaced with adapters for a car seat or a bassinet. While the latter may be useful if you have a newborn, Nuna’s pushchair is notable for having a full-recline(ish) setting, something many of its competitors don’t. Add the option to fold up the footrest, and you have a makeshift bassinet to keep young babies horizontal and safe.

The seat sits high on the frame, which is handy for larger children who may otherwise be close to dragging their feet on the floor, and the canopy can be unzipped for added cover or lifted in places to allow for extra ventilation. The charm of the Mixx Next is in its use of high-quality material (the faux leather push bar is a nice touch) coupled with a mid-range price tag.

The Mixx Next is also available as a bundle that includes a carry cot, car seat, 360° car seat base and compatible rain cover, making it more than capable of accommodating newborns and overnight trips. The bundle retails for £1,200 at John Lewis, and this works out around £120 cheaper than buying the additional items separately at their usual RRPs.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 to 4 years or 22kg; Wheels: Lockable swivel wheels; Folded dimensions: 76 x 60 x 42cm, Unfolded dimensions: 82 x 60 x 110cm; Weight: 11.09kg (single); 13.4kg (bundle)

5. Mamas & Papas Ocarro: Best stylish pushchair

best travel system pushchairs uk

If your budget can stretch to it, we highly recommend checking out the award-winning Ocarro pushchair from Mamas & Papas. Yes, it’s on the pricier end of the spectrum, but its high-quality and high-class craftsmanship is evident as soon as you take it out of the box. It’s an incredibly stylish pushchair featuring dual suspension and large wheels to make pushing it over various terrains a doddle. Though it’s a sturdy and durable pushchair, it’s surprisingly compact when you fold it down.

The seat itself is the dreamiest, most comfortable environment for your little one. It’s made from a memory foam-style padded cushion wrapped in the same thick, soft, plush and luxurious material that the rest of the buggy is covered in. This includes the rain hood, which is available in a selection of eight modern yet timeless neutral colours. The Ocarro is also available with an array of similarly luxurious extras, such as a nappy bag with a removable changing mat, footmuff, parasol, adapters and cup holder. It’s compatible with the Ocarro car seat and carrycot, too.

The pushchair alone will cost you £849, but Mamas & Papas offers bundle deals if you want to add these helpful extra accessories. Whether you opt for the pushchair on its own or the complete travel system, you’re getting a bunch of superior features including dual suspension, puncture-proof tires, safety reflective wheel rims, mesh pockets that can store plenty of belongings and an adjustable handle for the pusher’s comfort.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 to 4 years or 22kg; Wheels: Lockable swivel; Folded dimensions: 40 x 59 x 78cm; Unfolded dimensions: 101 x 59 x 101cm; Weight: 13.5kg

6. GoodBaby Pockit+ Stroller: Best lightweight pushchair for travelling

best travel system pushchairs uk

It’s not a complete travel system, but any parent will tell you that the handiest stroller you can buy is one that you can operate single-handedly. This would mean that it would have to be light, simple to operate and cooperative – and the GoodBaby Pockit+ is just that stroller.

Weighing just 5.6kg, it’s the lightest, most compact stroller around (it was awarded the Guinness World Record for the smallest folding stroller on the market in 2014), yet it’s still sturdy and can serve your child up until they’re four years old (or 17kg), so you’ll get plenty of use out of it. What’s more, this impressively compact stroller folds up so small it can even be taken on as carry-on luggage and stored in an aeroplane’s overhead storage compartment.

It’s easy to push and its five-point harness keeps your little one secure. Its soft, hammock-style seat lays almost flat, making it great for naps under a parasol. While its basket isn’t the largest, it will still hold a bag of shopping or your essentials. The canopy, too, is on the small side, but the benefits of this stroller far outweigh these negatives. At £190, it’s reasonably priced, too.

Other worthy contenders for the lightweight and compact carry-on stroller category are the Didofy Aster (6.2kg, £299) and Inglesina’s Quid 2 (5.9kg, £299); but as you can see, the Pockit+ wins for both a lower price and weight.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 6 months to 4 years; Wheels: Lockable swivel; Folded dimensions: 20 x 34 x 42-55cm; Unfolded dimensions: 102 x 42 x 71cm; Weight: 5.6kg

7. nuna triv pushchair: best easy-to-carry travel system.

best travel system pushchairs uk

Nuna’s brilliant TRIV pushchair combines style with portability, thanks to an easy-to-fold design that makes for a classy companion for trips around the city. Light and compact, but with plenty of storage space and a range of seating options, it balances the benefits of a full travel system with a frame that can be collapsed and carried in just one hand.

The TRIV’s design is based around a seating system that can be reclined through a range of angles and even popped out to be replaced by an adapter for a bassinet or a car seat. This delivers an impressive level of flexibility, with the bassinet definitely worth considering as an additional purchase if you have a newborn. Even on its own, though, the TRIV’s seat is an adaptable piece of kit, including optional calf support, four reclining options and an extendable water-repellent UPF 50+ canopy with ventilation.

That attention to detail – from the use of high-quality materials (such as the faux leather push bar and the cosy wool insert) to the clever way the whole unit folds – is a big part of what sets this pushchair apart from the competition. Once it’s collapsed, a leather strap on the pushchair’s base makes it easy to pick up, carry down a flight of stairs and put into a car boot.

The TRIV is an outstanding stroller with an appealing mid-range price, ideal for anyone doing a lot of strolling around and getting in and out of cars.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 to 4 years or 22kg; Wheels: Lockable swivel; Folded dimensions: 32 x 52 x 65cm; Unfolded dimensions: 81 x 52 x 109cm; Weight: 8.8kg

8. Bugaboo Cameleon 3: Best all-in-one stroller

best travel system pushchairs uk

The Bugaboo Cameleon 3 is the third edition of this iconic all-in-one design buggy, immediately recognisable by its neat shape and bold colour options. The Bugaboo has won fans worldwide for its versatile handling and flexible functionality, with a fully reclinable and reversible seat, height-adjustable handlebar and adjustable suspension that ensures a smooth ride on any terrain.

The innovative Dutch design includes a carrycot that converts into a seat (so you won’t need to stash it in the house when not in use), while a smooth and simple switch-and-lock on the X-shaped handlebar easily turns the baby to face towards either you or the world. It has two wheel positions that make for an easy ride even through sand or snow.

The redesigned basket is still roomy enough to store plenty of belongings and shopping but now it’s easier to access. The Cameleon 3 also comes with a host of accessories, including a rain cover and a sun canopy, and you also have the option of purchasing various “Plus Bundles”, which come with other items you may need such as a changing bag, car seat, footmuff and more.

9. Joie Chrome DLX: Best versatile pushchair

best travel system pushchairs uk

The Joie i-Level is one of the best car seats around, especially for young babies, and if you like the convenience of popping the car seat straight onto a stroller, you’ll need to get a compatible pushchair. This is where the Joie Chrome DLX comes in.

This reasonably priced, lightweight and stylish 3-in-1 pram, pushchair and stroller comes with a carrycot for newborns, but it also gives you the option to lay the pushchair seat flat. The pushchair comes with a leg rest that adjusts as your baby grows, and it can face both inwards and outwards for when your baby wants to see the world and not just you. It comes with a comfortable mattress, an extendable hood, a cosy apron and a rain cover.

Other handy features include a handlebar that you can adjust according to your height, a removable bumper bar and ShoeSaver brakes. We also love the size of the sun canopy and the roomy basket.

Despite being lightweight, the Chrome DLX has large, all-terrain tyres with all-wheel suspension and quick-release wheels, and can carry babies weighing up to 17.5kg. In addition to supporting the i-Level car seat, you can also fit the Joie Gemm and i-Gemm seats on the base.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 to 17.5kg in weight; Wheels: Lockable swivel, all-terrain wheels; Folded dimensions: 93 x 59.8 x 38.5cm; Unfolded dimensions : 86 x 59.8 x 113.2cm; Weight: 12.7kg

10. Cybex Priam: Best off-road pushchair

best travel system pushchairs uk

The all-new Cybex Priam has been updated and is now even better than before (if that’s even possible). This customisable part-pram, part-stroller is suitable from birth, when it’s used with a carrycot, right up to when your baby is four years of age (or has reached 22kg), and combines rubber wheels with impressive suspension on a sturdy frame.

Yes, it may look too good to take on welly walks – but trust us, this thing can handle it, and it’s perfect for all sorts of on- and off-road adventures thanks to its all-wheel suspension that provides a super soft, quiet and comfy ride (and if it gets dirty, the fabric covers are easily removable and machine washable). If you’re one of those daredevil parents, you can even buy an extension pack that replaces the front wheels with a pair of skis.

This high-end stroller is the first of its kind to feature a new and innovative one-pull harness system that can precision-fit your child securely in their seat in seconds using just one hand every single time. Other nice touches include an SPF50+ canopy, a backrest pocket to store your phone and keys, and a shopping basket that folds down when it isn’t in use.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 months to 22kg; Wheels: All-terrain wheels; Folded dimensions: 83.5 x 51.5 x 31.5cm; Unfolded dimensions: 92-83 x 60 x 98.5-108cm; Weight: 12.6kg

11. Kinderkraft XMoov 3-in-1 Travel System: Best affordable travel system

best travel system pushchairs uk

To buy a good baby travel system that has a car seat and a carrycot, plus plenty of handy extras, you might think that you’d have to take out a small loan… but you’d be mistaken. The KinderKraft XMoov 3-in-1 travel system is remarkably reasonably priced for the quality (sturdy frame and luxurious mink fabric throughout) and the number of features it offers.

These include, but aren’t limited to, a nappy bag with removable changing mat, a rain cover, cup holder, footmuff, extendable canopy and a height-adjustable handle. In addition to all of this, the front wheels swivel and can be locked for solely going straight, while the brakes at the back wheels have a simultaneous double clamp to fix the pram promptly in place.

The reclinable car seat has adjustable shoulder straps with protectors for the baby’s optimal safety and comfort. The pumped wheels on this all-terrain stroller also have a shock-absorbing mechanism allowing it to glide effortlessly on all kinds of roads, making it the perfect option whether you live in a busy city with mismatched pavements or in more rural surroundings with dirt roads.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 months to 22kg; Wheels: Pumped, all-terrain, locking, swivel, self-aligning; Folded dimensions: 75 x 42 x 62cm; Unfolded dimensions: 92-116 x 110 x 60cm; Weight: 11.8-14kg

12. Cybex ORFEO Travel Pushchair: Best hand-luggage compatible pushchair

best travel system pushchairs uk

Cybex’s new ORFEO pushchair is designed for travel with your tot, sporting an ultra-compact, hand-luggage-compatible size. It can be easily folded and stored in any overhead compartment, while boasting an ergonomic lie-flat recline and adjustable leg rest. In terms of longevity, Cybex says that it can be used from birth (with the addition of the newborn nest or compatible car seat) to approximately four years old – although this will largely depend on your child’s height. This pram was tested with a very tall 20-month-year old passenger and his legs did dangle off the seat a little already.

Rather handily, this pram comes assembled, so it can be used straight out of the box after quickly attaching the wheels. It also folds down in an instant; you just press the two handlebar buttons at the same time (it takes a couple of attempts to master the technique, but it’s fairly intuitive). The one-pull harness – like that on a car seat – is also very handy, especially if you find complicated clasps a total nightmare.

It’s a very nippy little pram that’s perfect for city life, taking on holiday, or just away for a long weekend. Likewise, it makes a compact option for keeping in the car boot if your main pram is quite large and cumbersome. Overall, this is a brilliant lightweight pram that you’ll be glad you invested in come holiday time.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 years (with added nest attachment) to approx 4 years old/ 22kg in weight; Wheels: Pumped, swivel; Folded dimensions: L53 x W48 x H16cm; Unfolded dimensions: L77 x W53 x H102cm; Weight: 6.3kg

13. Nuna Triv Next: Best lightweight pushchair

best travel system pushchairs uk

We’re big fans of the original Nuna Triv stroller, so we were excited and intrigued to see how its latest update, the Nuna Triv Next, fared in comparison. Placed side by side, both iterations of the Triv look near-identical, but there are some subtle yet thoughtful improvements.

The main points of difference are the tyres that are around two inches bigger, plus an improved frame that makes the pram easier to manoeuvre on and off pavements (something that did need improving). What’s more, while the frame and wheels are larger on this model, it’s actually slightly lighter in weight than the original Triv weighing just under 9kg. The wheelbase has also been widened to improve stability, and the footrest includes an extension to keep extra-tall toddlers comfortable.

Meanwhile, the comfy seat can be placed forward or rear facing, and its spacious basket works well for everyday life. We found it fit shopping, school bags and water bottles with ease, holding the weight well. The breathable mesh-covered seat is cleverly designed to keep your child’s back and legs warm in the winter and cool in the summer. This detail also gives the pram a premium finish alongside the brown faux-leather trims.

All in all, this is a practical and smart-looking pram that you can use from birth (with the additional bassinet) until your child is around 22kg.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable for 0 years (with added bassinet) to approx 4 years old/ 22kg in weight; Solid wheels: Pumped, swivel, lockable; Folded dimensions: 32 x 58 x 69cm (LWH); Unfolded dimensions: L85 x W58 x H106cm; Weight: 8.72kg

14. Thule Shine Stroller & air purifier canopy: Best for pollution protection

Best prams Thule Shine

The Shine stroller is a sleek and lightweight option that’s incredibly durable – thanks to the brand’s extensive safety checks. The stroller has a base with a 10kg capacity basket and an adjustable handlebar operated by a central push button.

Out of the box it comes partially assembled – you just need to attach the back wheels and clip on the main seat. It can also be bought with the additional bassinet if you’re using it from birth. When your child is sitting confidently, the stroller can be used with the supportive, padded and reversible reclining seat. This is fitted with a five-point harness that we found easy to adjust and fasten. It also feels very protective with a durable fabric on the outside and a soft fleece inside.

Where this stroller truly stands out, however, is the optional air purifier canopy , which can be bought separately for £430. The first of its kind, it features air purification technology to deliver 150l of HEPA purified air every minute. This sucks out the pollution from around your child’s head which is ideal if you leave in a city or heavily congested area. The canopy uses a reusable battery and connects via Bluetooth to an app which shows the air quality around you. It also lets you know when the filter needs changing, roughly once or twice a year.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable from 6 months or older (or from birth with the bassinet) and up to 22kg; Wheels: Lockable swivel; Folded dimensions: 69 x 52 x 35cm, Unfolded dimensions: 90 x 52 x 96.5cm; Weight: 9.8kg

Looking for an easy and affordable way to get out and about with your baby? Find all the products you need, and save money too, with our pick of the best travel systems and pushchair bundles.

We’ve compared ten of the best travel system bundles, from inexpensive but reliable options to more luxurious models.

What is a travel system bundle?

A bundle is typically a set comprising a pushchair, a carrycot or bassinet, a car seat and the relevant base and / or adapters, offering all items you need to travel with your baby in one package. Bundles are generally great value and will often include nice extras like a matching changing bag, raincovers, cup holders and more.

Why buy a bundle?

There are several advantages to buying a bundle. Firstly, you know for sure that all items are compatible with each other, as they’re all from the same brand and have been packaged together specifically because they complement each other. The fabrics will all match, which makes the whole set look smart and stylish. Perhaps best of all you’ll save some money, as bundles offer great value compared to buying items individually.

What to look for in a travel system / pushchair bundle

Carrycot – If the bundle includes a carrycot for newborns, check if it can be used for safe overnight sleeping as this could save you having to buy a crib or travel cot. If space is at a premium, you may prefer to choose a pushchair with a seat that transforms into a bassinet instead.

More like this

Pushchair design – A small, lightweight pushchair is ideal if you’re short on space, and will enable you to hop on and off buses and trains with ease. If, however, you’ll mostly be walking over rough ground, you might decide to buy an all-terrain or more rugged pushchair.

Seat safety – Medical advice strongly suggests that your baby should lie completely flat for the first months and although most of these pushchairs have seats that are advertised for use from birth, some recline at 150° rather than the totally flat 180°. In these cases, opting for a bundle with a separate carrycot may be preferable.

Car seat – Some car seats can be secured using the car’s seat belt, but this can be fiddly, so make sure you read the instructions carefully to ensure it’s fitted safely. An ISOFIX base is often easier to fit correctly and can be left in the car, meaning that it’s quicker and easier to put your baby safely in the car for each journey.

True value - Prices of bundles vary wildly, and we have included bundles from as little as £189 up to £1400 in our list. Generally, the higher prices denote higher quality pushchairs that may feel more sturdy and have more features, but it’s also important to check what’s included in the bundles and really think about whether you would use all the accessories. Sometimes the prices are bumped up with extras that are not necessary for all families.

Are there any downsides to buying a bundle?

Since you can’t mix and match, you may have to compromise on some items. Your dream pushchair might come with a car seat that’s not ideal, such as a first stage seat that won’t fit your child for as long as other models. Also, it’s worth noting that some manufacturers use these bundles to sell slightly older car seat models, but that’s only really a concern if you are interested in a specific feature from a newer style.

What do you need to know before buying a travel system bundle?

The most important thing to check is whether the car seat will fit your car. This will, in turn, influence the pushchair you can buy. Before buying anything at all, research which car seats are compatible with your car and go from there. The product description or manufacturer’s website should have this information.

Please note that the weight given for the pushchairs is for the chassis plus the seat unit. At MadeForMums we have also reviewed many of the pushchairs mentioned, so take a moment to read the full reviews for further insight.

How did we choose our 10 of the Best?

Here's our pick of the best travel system bundles..., 1. kinderkraft xmoov 3 in 1, £339.95, best for smart style on a budget.

Kinderkraft XMOOV 3 in 1

Bundle includes: Pushchair, carrycot, car seat, raincover, footmuff, mosquito net, changing maternity stroller bag, Joie travel cot, Chicco baby carrier and Chicco Pocket Snack booster seat

Suitable for : birth to 22 kg | Pushchair weight: 17.5kg | Carrycot included: Yes | Car seat included: yes, to 13kg | Car seat weight: 3.4kg | Car seat base included: no | Changing bag included : yes | Other accessories included: yes

This pushchair bundle looks more premium than its price would suggest and it has a seat unit that doubles as a bassinet, meaning you have less gear to store. It’s a great does-it-all set for families on a budget. Our tester Jodie said: “I highly recommend this product and wish I had purchased it for my first child, rather than spending five times the price on a different model.”

The pushchair seat has 3 recline positions and it can face the parent or the world. The chassis features all-round suspension and large, inflatable wheels for a comfortable ride over even bumpy ground. As Jodie remarks: “I’m very impressed with how sturdy it is. I could push it easily up kerbs, on grass and on my gravel driveway. It was easy to change direction and I felt confident manoeuvring it with ease.” It’s lightweight and easy to fold.

The Mink car seat can be snapped onto the pushchair chassis using the adapters included in the bundle, and it’s easy to remove to transfer it to the car. “It wasn’t fiddly at all and very straightforward,” says Jodie. It fits rearward facing, using the car’s seat belt and can be used up to 13kg (around 2 years).

Thus bundle also features a travel cot and booster seat.

Available from: Kinderkraft and Kiddie's Kingdom

2. Cosatto Giggle Quad, £899.95

– best for statement style.

Cosatto Giggle Quad

Bundle includes: Pushchair chassis, wheels and basket, carrycot with multi hood and apron, carrycot mattress, seat unit, chest pads, crotch pad, bumper bar, rain cover, travel companion toy, RAC port i-size car seat, adaptors, i-size base, changing bag and footmuff

Suitable for: birth to 20kg | Pushchair weight: 8.6kg | Carrycot included: yes, suitable for overnight sleeping | Car seat included: yes, i-Size to 87cm | Car seat base included : yes | Changing bag included: yes | Other accessories included: yes

Cosatto is known for its eye-catching fabrics and you will really stand out with this travel system. The Giggle Quad is a sturdy four-wheeler and tester Alex comments: “The buggy felt solid and good quality – a premium product,” although she was concerned the seat unit was a little hard. It will hold kids up to 20kg (over 4 years) though Alex says: “the 90cm-long seat unit was too short for my 17kg son to sit in truly comfortably and he has only just turned three.”

Our tester found this pushchair easy to manoeuvre, saying “I could comfortably push the Giggle Quad with one hand.” It’s also easy to fold and collapses with the seat unit attached, although Alex does comment that it’s not ideal for using on public transport as it’s not as compact as some pushchairs.

The car seat is made with safety experts the RAC and comes with both adapters to snap it onto your pushchair frame and a handy ISOFIX base. Alex reports: “The seat clicks on fairly smoothly. I did find lining it up with the adaptor slots a little jerky to start, but I soon got used to it.” It grows to fit your baby with a one-handed adjustment and has 3 recline positions when used with the base.

MFM home tester Charlie, mum of 3 year old son and 18 month old daughter said, "we loved the patterns and how many there were to choose from. We also loved that the travel system all matched including the nappy bag. It was great for being really versatile too. It was easy to adjust for our child as they got older". She also commented, how when she had an issue Cosatto were good at helping her get it fixed. However, she did say "it's very bulky and not possible to fit in a small boot with a food shop". This is helpful to know if you have a small car.

3. Venicci Tinum, £829

– best for a contemporary, urban look.

Venicci-Tinium

Bundle includes: Pushchair chassis, seat unit, raincover, mosquito net, apron, footmuff (made from attaching the carrycot insert to the pram cover); carrycot, with raincover and mosquito net; i-Size car seat and base, plus adapters; changing bag

Suitable for: birth to 22kg | Pushchair weight: 11.6kg | Carrycot included: yes | Car seat included: yes to 13kg| Car seat weight : 3.kg | Car seat base included: yes | Changing bag included: yes

This sleek and stylish bundle has all you need for travel with a baby, plus plenty of extra accessories. The Tinum has a chassis in lightweight aluminium and comes with a generous carrycot to use from birth, which clicks easily onto the chassis. It also has a backrest you can raise (great for babies with colic or reflux) but it’s not suitable for overnight sleeping. Tester Maxine adds: “The netting incorporated within the hood was a nice feature, for more fresh air to breath in and for my daughter to enjoy her surroundings more.”

It’s easy to swap between seat, carrycot and car seat on this pushchair, as all parts that ‘move’ are colour coded, and it also has a simple fold. Maxine says: “I was genuinely surprised how easy it was when I first folded it down and loved the way the handle is incorporated in the folding down mechanism.”

The wheels are large for a smooth ride and it has really good suspension. Maxine commented: “The best part of the pram is being able to steer it pretty easily with one hand” The car seat is light, compact and easy to use too. Maxine says: “The ISOFIX safety feature is a great touch; it shows you if you have the seat correctly clicked into the ISOFIX points with a tick.” To complete the bundle, you get a smart bag with a changing mat, and it’s nice to have a mosquito net in addition to the raincover and also a warm footmuff.

MFM home tester Lorne, mum of 2 liked that the pram was durable and that it lasted her so well. "The pram has a lot of room for baby and the suspension system is absolutely brilliant, making it so smooth over any kind of terrain when out and about. It's also lightweight, making it very easy to manoeuvre and it's swivel wheels help when going round tight places in shops", says Lorne. She also loved how straightforward it was to switch from carrycot to pushchair.

However, Lorne did mention that folding the pram down can be a bit awkward at times as the front 2 wheels need to be sitting in a certain position facing forwards otherwise it won't fold.

4. Hauck Pacific 4 Shop n Drive, £199.99

– best for easy storage.

Hauck Pacific Shop

Bundle includes: Chassis and seat unit that becomes bassinet, footmuff, raincover; car seat

Suitable for: birth to 25kg | Carrycot included: no, seat unit converts to bassinet | Car seat included: yes | Car seat weight : 3.kg | Car seat base included: no | Changing bag included: no | Other accessories included : yes

This pushchair is really lightweight and though it’s such a budget price for a bundle, you get a really good deal; a seat that converts into a cosy bassinet, and a first stage car seat too - plus a raincover and footmuff (which is the apron and seat liner zipped together).

The chassis has good-sized wheels for a smooth ride and front swivel wheels that make steering easy and there’s even suspension on the front wheels to glide over the bumps of city streets. It has a really generous shopping basket to store all your baby gear and the pushchair can be folded using just one hand – ideal when you’re holding your baby in the other arm!

The from-birth car seat clicks straight onto the chassis to create a smart travel system and it has good side impact protection and a hood to protect your baby from sun and wind. Though you don’t get extras like a car seat base, this is a great bundle for parents on a budget and Hauck offers a changing bag you could buy to complete the look, plus lots of other accessories.

Available from: Uber Kids and Amazon

5. Ickle Bubba Stomp, £499.95

– best for an easy fold.

Ickle Bubba Stomp

Bundle includes: Pushchair, raincover, carrycot, car seat (with adaptors), isofix car seat base, footmuff, car seat window sun visors, changing bag with changing mat, Chicco Pocket Snack booster seat, Joie Wish bouncer, Hauck safety pack, Koo-Di car seat sun cover and Clair De Lune changing mat

Suitable for: birth to 15kg | Pushchair weight: 13.9kg | Carrycot included: yes | Car seat included: yes, to 13kg | Car seat weight: 3.4kg | Car seat base included : yes | Changing bag included: yes | Other accessories included: yes

A really good set of extras comes with this mid-priced eye-catching pushchair with its sleek black design and tan faux-leather covered handle and bumper bar. Tester Sophie exclaimed: “I couldn’t get over how much kit was included!“

The carrycot is a good size with a softly padded liner, although not suitable for overnight sleeping. The seat unit also has good padding. Sophie commented: “The luxury seat liner and padded coverlet feel lovely and soft.” It’s easy to click the carrycot off and the reversible seat unit on to the chassis. It’s also very easy to collapse – Sophie says: “It’s genuinely the easiest fold I’ve encountered.” It has a large hood, though Sophie cautions: “The hood is disappointing – it’s made from a much coarser material than the rest of the pram and is not adjustable. It also doesn’t have any hoops for attaching toys, which would be a bonus.”

The Galaxy car seat will fit your little one up to 13kg (around 2 years) and Sophie loved how easy it was to use. “It was really easy to get my son into the seat as the straps can be moved out of the way. The moveable headrest (operated by pressing a catch on the base of the unit) was really handy for making him comfortable.” The ISOFIX base means clicking the car seat off the pushchair and into the car is easy – as Sophie says: “I loved the speed at which we could secure the seat.”

MFM home tester Leila, used this travel system with her daughter. "It was very sturdy and the carrycot attachment was helpful when we were in our flat. Overall though, despite how good it was on rough terrain, it was a nightmare for living in London." Leila warns this is not the best option if you rely on public transport and getting it on and off of a bus or train regularly.

6. Ickle Bubba Moon, £299.95

– best lightweight option.

Ickle Bubba Moon

Bundle includes : Pushchair, convertible seat unit and carrycot, astral group 0+ car seat, carrycot apron/pushchair boot cover, raincover, Joie Mimzy Snacker highchair and Joie Wish bouncer

Suitable for: birth to 3 years | Pushchair weight : 10.5kg | Carrycot included : yes | Car seat included: yes, to 13kg | Car seat weight: 3.4kg | Car seat base included: no | Changing bag included: no | Other accessories included: yes

This set is a great value bundle including special extras such as a highchair and a bouncer.

Our tester Steve says: “The Moon looked versatile, compact and extremely lightweight – in fact it weighs just 6kg (for the chassis), which I found amazing. The quality is surprisingly good considering the reasonable price.”

It’s a light chassis, which makes steering easy but is perhaps not the sturdiest. As Steve says: “The extremely lightweight aluminium frame makes manoeuvring, mounting kerbs and lifting a doddle, but I wouldn’t say that it’s particularly strong. For the price though, it’s understandable that you’re not getting the sturdiest of travel systems.” He feels that, despite its suspension and while it’s great for city streets, it’s probably not as good for off-roading or rough terrain.

The bassinet is used for the first months and then quickly transforms into a seat. Steve says: “The carrycot converts into a seat by simply fastening the strap underneath and tightening a toggle.“ This pushchair also comes with the Astral car seat, suitable to 13kg (around 2 years) and it has an adjustable headrest to increase its size as your baby grows.

7. Silver Cross Wayfarer, £699.06

– best premium bundle.

Silver Cross Wayfarer

Bundle includes: Pushchair chassis with seat unit, raincover; carrycot suitable for occasional overnight sleeping, changing bag; car seat plus adapters; cup holder

Suitable for: birth to 22kg | Pushchair weight: 10kg | Carrycot included: yes | Car seat included: yes, to 13kg | C ar seat weight: 4kg | Car seat base included: no | Changing bag included: yes | Other accessories included: yes

If you want the look of a luxury pram at a sensible price, the Wayfarer bundle is one of the best ways to get that gorgeous, premium look. The carrycot, suitable for overnight sleeping, is a good size with a generous hood and our tester Sarah liked its feel: “the inner lining had a gorgeous super soft finish – it’s made of a naturally antibacterial bamboo, which helps to regulate your child’s temperature, …and the mattress was safely firm and breathable.”

The chassis is sturdy and simple to use. Sarah comments: “I loved the ease of the folding mechanism for the chassis and the fact it can be folded with the seat attached in forward-facing, upright position.” However, because it’s a larger pushchair than some, Sarah warns: “the buggy is quite bulky once folded. When combined with the size of the carrycot, it only just fit in our car boot.” However, she says it is: “a delight to push and it was so easy to steer with brilliant manoeuvrability.”

The bundle includes the Simplicity car seat, suitable up to 13kg (around 2 years) and used with your car’s seat belts - if you want to use an ISOFIX base, you’ll need to buy it separately. The bag is really neat and feels premium, with a changing mat and lots of pockets inside and the cup holder is ideal for a drink while you’re out. This bundle is ideal for those wanting long walks and trips in the city and although it would handle some rougher terrain, Sarah says: “if I were constantly on public transport, I may want something more nippy.”

Mamas and Papas Ocarro

Bundle includes: Pushchair, carrycot, Heritage bear, baby blanket, Aton 5 car seat with adaptors and Isofix base, changing bag, footmuff, parasol and cup holder

Suitable for: birth to 3 years | Pushchair weight : 13.3kg | Carrycot included: yes | Car seat included: yes, to 13kg | Car seat weight: 4.8kg | Car seat base included: yes | Changing bag included: yes | Other accessories included : yes

This is a stylish and comprehensive bundle that gives you a functional pushchair, a good-sized carrycot, a car seat plus lots of added extras. The carrycot is large, with plenty of protection from the elements and is suitable for occasional overnight sleeping. It has a good mattress and ventilation for warmer months, though our tester Claire was disappointed that when using the carrycot, “I couldn’t access the basket below, which is very impractical.”

The 3-position, lie-flat seat unit faces the front or the rear and Claire comments it is: “padded and there’s a plump, foam headrest. The harness is quite heavy duty, but the pads make it comfortable to wear. My baby looked very secure and happy when strapped in.” The seat also has a large hood with an air vent, which is Claire’s favourite part: “The hood … goes right back, enabling my son to see what’s going on around him. However, it also tilts forward, giving some privacy, which is nice when he’s sleeping.”

When it comes to manoeuvrability, the chassis has suspension and large wheels to make it ride smoothly over rough ground. Claire said: “Nothing fazes the Ocarro; it’s a seamless ride regardless of the terrain. It’s smooth on pavements and I was able to mount the kerb without any difficulty. I also keep the pushchair in control on uneven terrain.”

The Aton 5 car seat can be easily clipped to the chassis and transferred to the car, where you secure it with the car’s seat belt, or with the ISOFIX base that’s included. Other items in this great bundle are a smart bag with lots of interior pockets and a changing mat, a nicely padded footmuff to keep your little one warm and a cup holder for that essential morning coffee!

MFM home tester Katie used the Ocarro with her daughter. "We used the travel system loads and loved the Ocarro! We used it from the day she left hospital until she was too long to fit in the pram seat. Some of my family are 6ft + and found the handle bar adjusting very helpful. The fabric was durable and also kept the rain off better than we expected for a soft fabric. The wheels were ideal for many walks we went on across different terrain. The car seat and bassinet both slotted onto the frame with ease."

9. Silver Cross Wave 2020, £1,420

– best for multiple children.

Silver Cross Wave 2020

Bundle includes: Pushchair chassis, reversible pushchair seat unit hood, carrycot with hood and apron, pushchair seat liner, tandem adaptors, 2 bumper bars, shopping basket, 2 mosquito nets, 2 raincovers, changing bag, footmuff, car seat and adaptors

Suitable for: birth to 25kg | Pushchair weight: 13.5kg | Carrycot included: yes | Car seat included : yes, to 13kg | Car seat weight: 4kg | Car seat base included: yes | Changing bag included: no | Other accessories included: yes

A truly high-end and luxurious bundle with the multi-functional Wave pushchair at its heart. This elegant pushchair is a single-to-double model and can be adapted to hold 2 children, whether they are twins or siblings of different ages. It arrives with both seat unit and carrycot, so you can push a baby and a toddler at the same time. Simply add the car seat for a travel system or buy additional carrycots and seat units as you need them.

The carrycot is lined with Silver Cross’ antibacterial bamboo fabric and our tester Annie Says: “The mattress is firm and the best feature is that it can be used for overnight sleeping, which is very handy.” You can even buy an additional stand to use the carrycot as a crib. Annie comments: “While it’s meant to last for six months or until your baby can sit up, as Miriam is tall, we may not make it past five.”

The seat unit has a clever elevated seat position that means you and your baby can have great eye contact together. The basket is a generous size and the chassis is made from magnesium alloy, meaning that although it’s fairly light for its size, it’s strong, which is what you need from a pushchair that might be required to carry two large toddlers! Folding is simple, as Annie explains: “it does need two hands – once you’ve removed the seats you simply press down on two buttons on the frame and it collapses and automatically locks itself into the safety lock.”

The bundle includes the Simplicity car seat, which comes with both adaptors to click it onto the chassis and an ISOFIX base for secure fixing into your car.

10. My Babiie MB200+ Billie Faiers Collection, £299.95

– best for style on a budget.

My Babiie MB200BillieFaiers Collection

Bundle includes: pushchair chassis and seat, raincover, apron; carrycot; car seat, cup holder

Suitable for: birth to 22kg | Pushchair weight: 17.9kg | Carrycot included: yes | Car seat included: yes, to 13kg | Car seat weight: 4kg | C ar seat base included: no | Changing bag included: no | Other accessories included: yes

For those who want to have a fashion-forward pram that’s TOWIE approved, this neat little bundle offers a functional pushchair plus a separate carrycot and car seat for a decent price. It has a rose gold chassis and pink fabric, which some will love.

The carrycot sits in the chassis parent-facing and has an integral handle and protective hood. It clicks easily onto the chassis and can be used up to 9kg (around 9 months). It is also suitable for overnight sleeping (with the hood and apron removed). The seat unit is forward facing only but does have a lie-flat recline.

The seat is quite tricky to add to the frame – no simple click-on parts here, as you have to attach the seat fabric first using poppers and Velcro and then add the hood and bumper bar. However, you only need to do this once when changing to the seat, so it’s not a huge problem and the raincover and apron for the seat are included too. The pushchair frame folds easily too – just pull the two catches on the handlebar and it folds forwards and down and locks together.

The car seat is a Group 0+ that will hold your little one up to 13kg (around 2 years). There is a matching changing bag available, which you would have to buy separately.

The 6 best all-terrain pushchairs 2022

If you live in the countryside, or just love long walks, an all-terrain pram or pushchair could be the best choice for you and your baby – it’s just what you need to make travel on bumpy surfaces super easy.

We’ve gathered together our pick of the best buggies and strollers for going off road with your little one, below.

All these strollers are great for whether you’re planning to head off the beaten track every day with your baby, or to just make the occasional foray over bumpier ground.

1. Baby Jogger City Mini

2. Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle

3. Silver Cross Pioneer

4. Jane Crosswalk

5. Bugaboo Fox 2

6. iCandy Peach

Left: Car insurance. Right: 2022

It’s not easy for parents to choose the perfect all-terrain pram (or pushchair) as there are so many on the market, but we’ve found a good selection to cover every price point, including strollers from brands like iCandy, Bugaboo, Mountain Buggy, Baby Jogger and Silver Cross.

Try and shop around to find offers online at retailers such as Amazon and Samuel Johnston , sometimes with free delivery thrown in.

Many of these models can convert from lie flat newborn prams to strollers that are suitable for when your child gets older, so could potentially have use for quite a few years – which those with a smaller budget will like!

Other new models can grow from a single to a double pushchair which is useful if you have a second baby as you don’t need to buy another stroller.

Remember that a stroller designed to be pushed over lots of different terrains is likely to be large and heavy. Think about the size and weight, where you’ll be able to store it at home and how easy it’ll be to get into your car.

There are some small and more compact strollers on sale that are ideal for parents with limited space or who live in more urban areas.

Check to see how small the pushchair will fold and whether the wheels and seat unit can be removed.

Think about whether you need to buy a pram with a carrycot, as this is another item to store, too.

Many pushchair seats can be used from birth, so you might not need a separate carrycot.

Think about what accessories are included in the price– a raincover, foot muff and sun canopy are all useful extras.

Other useful features include all wheel suspension, a hand operated brake and a seat unit with several recline positions.

Tips on choosing an off-road pram

What does all terrain stroller mean?

An all-terrain stroller is a pram or pushchair that’s made especially to be pushed over bumpy roads, paths or uneven ground. They’re great strollers for parents who live in the country to use.

All-terrain or off-road pushchairs have larger than average wheels (and often one large wheel at the front) and superior suspension so its more suitable for this type of travel.

Some models are very compact, can easily fold and are relatively lightweight, so can also be used by parents living in urban area, whilst others made for going off road more regularly can be large and heavy.

Most all-terrain strollers are suitable from birth if they have a lie-flat pushchair seat or a carrycot.

What is the best all terrain pram?

Most pushchair brands have an all-terrain or off-road stroller in its ranges – try looking at the iCandy Peach, the Bugaboo Fox 2, Thule Urban Glide and most models by Mountain Buggy and Baby Jogger.

Where can you shop for an all-terrain pushchair?

You can buy off-roading prams and pushchairs from retailers such as John Lewis, Amazon, Samuel Johnston and Boots.

What features should you be looking for in an off-road pram?

Good all-round suspension, large wheels which give your baby a smoother ride over bumps (air-filled are a plus but they do puncture, so always carry a repair kit) are essential.

Some all-terrain models are three-wheelers, with one large wheel at the front. This design feature is not essential, but can be easier to steer over rougher ground.

Removable wheels can be a bonus, especially for limiting mess in your car and hallway when your stroller gets muddy and a roomy shopping basket is always useful, especially if you want to avoid using your car to go to the shops. You’ll also be able to choose between solid or air filled tyres. Solid tyres are puncture-proof, but those filled with air do create a more bump-free and smoother ride.

A well-padded seat that can be either forward facing or parent facing.

Younger babies will prefer a forward facing seat so they can still make eye contact with their parents – older babies might like to see more of the world!

For newborns a carrycot or a seat that can be reclined to a fully flat position is a must. Sometimes a carrycot come as part of the package or you have to buy it separately.

Some strollers have a hand operated brake. A hand brake is a useful feature as it’s often easier to use than a foot brake if you’re wearing wellies or bulky walking shoes.

Always check to see how easy it is to fold a pram or pushchair and also how small it folds. Remember it needs to be light enough to carry and also fit in your car boot!

Accessories

If you want something with a bit more longevity, choosing a buggy that can can convert from a single to a double as your family grows is another option. This type of pushchair can last for years and can be a better option that a traditional double stroller.

Check to see what accessories are included too, as it’s handy to not have to pay extra for a rain cover or sun canopy.

Another accessory or feature that’s useful is a shopping basket – the larger the better! It’s a must for keeping all your essentials to hand on trips out.

These prams and pushchairs might not have the smallest fold, or be the most lightweight on the market, but there’s still a lot to like about them!

A large sun canopy can be useful not only during hot weather, but also as an added protection against wind and rain.

How much should an all-terrain pram or pushchair cost?

Expect to pay anything from £300 to well over £1000 for a pushchair by a premium brand such as Bugaboo or iCandy. Always check to see what accessories are included in the price, as paying extra for these can bump up the price considerably.

Remember if you are really strapped for cash, a used model is always another option. eBay is a good place to search for nearly-new models.

Whether you’re an outdoorsy family, ready for adventure, or just need something that can handle the daily dog walk – we’ve tracked down the best all-terrain pushchairs for woodland walks and sandy strolls.

As the name suggests, an all-terrain buggy will handle rough routes – whether that’s inner-city bumpy pavements, muddy country dirt tracks, or even snow. However, this comes at a price, and most of these models will take up more room and be heavier than those with more limited functionality.

Generally speaking, the bigger the tire, the smoother the ride. Four-wheel models offer better stability (important if your dog tends to pull on the lead !), while three-wheelers are a little nippier. Suspension helps to absorb bumps in the road, giving your little one a much smoother ride, and hi-tech materials will help to keep them protected in all weather conditions.

Prices vary, and while many include helpful extras such as rain covers or footmuffs , others need to be purchased separately – something worth factoring in when making your decision.

Having thoroughly researched the market, including brand new releases and important updates to existing models, we’re confident these are the best all-terrain buggies for every occasion. Whether your focus is finding one to grow with your family, lead by your budget or suitable for exercising with , we’ve found the best off-road models for you.

How we tested.

With the help of our discerning 11-month-old, and energetic french bulldog, we tested a range of all-terrain and off-road buggies, over a period of six weeks. We put them through their paces in the countryside and on long dog walks across the marshes (as well as on shorter inner-city trips too).

We were looking to see how easy they were to put together, how smooth the ride was, and how easy each was to fold and unfold with our hands full. We also checked them out in different weather conditions, and finally there was a car boot test, to see just how much space each took up when not in use.

Mamas & Papas ocarro all-terrain pushchair

Mamas & Papas ocarro all-terrain pushchair.jpg

  • Best : Overall
  • Weight : 13.7kg
  • Number of wheels : Four
  • Suitable from : Birth

Looking for a buggy that can handle rough rides and look good while doing so? Mamas and Papas has it covered with this stylish specimen.

The hood is huge, easily sheltering your little one from the elements, and the seat fully reclines for snoozing on the go. It also has puncture-proof tires and lockable front wheels for greater stability. But what we loved most of all was that it can be folded with the seat attached, whether front or rear facing – which is one of those things you don’t realise is important, until you have kids yourself.

It’s undoubtedly well-made – we felt proud when pushing it around – and it folds down nice and small for an all-terrain model. In short, we were impressed, finding everything intuitive, from the initial set-up, to the adjustable handlebar. Also included in the price is a bear and blanket for baby, which we thought was a super cute touch.

We love this smart limited-edition colourway, which is a collaboration between Mamas & Papas and British tweed manufacturer Abraham Moon. However if that’s not your jam, there’s nine stylish colours to choose from.

Bugaboo fox 3

Bugaboo fox 3.jpg

  • Best : Lightweight all-terrain stroller
  • Weight : 9.9kg

Luxurious and sturdy, at just 9.9kg Bugaboo’s fox 3 is a well-made pushchair, offering solid all-terrain functionality, without unnecessary weight.

The brand describes this model as having a “fingertip push”, and we can confirm the four-wheel suspension did make the fox 3 a notably smooth ride (and easy on our arms). Tires are puncture proof and our tester didn’t seem phased by any bumps when out and about. Like all models in the range, the bits you need to manoeuvre — handlebars, levers to fold, etc — are highlighted in white, making locating the relevant bits dead easy (even for the sleep-deprived parent). There are also twelve shades to choose from – so you’re sure to find one to suit your colour scheme.

If you have stairs to contend with or know you’ll be lifting it in and out of the car, yet still want something that can tackle rough terrain, this lightweight model is unbeatable.

iCandy peach all-terrain

iCandy.jpg

  • Best : Multi-wheel functionality
  • Weight : 15.09kg
  • Number of wheels : Three or four

If you can’t decide between a three or four wheel buggy, the iCandy peach all-terrain offers both options, allowing you to switch between the two. It’s a very handsome model, made with well-considered high-spec materials to withstand the elements, and comes with a five-year warranty.

However we couldn’t give this heavy model top marks as it does take up a lot of space and can’t be folded with the seat attached. We also found it the most complicated (and time-consuming) to assemble.

That said, there’s lots of clever, thoughtful touches, such as an SPF50+ canopy with multi-position mesh ventilation, a large basket for stashing all their gear, and car seat adaptors. The deep, comfy seat is also fairly high, so we’d be happy wheeling this one up to the table and feeding our little one lunch in it. It’s also available as a double or twin model for larger families. If space allows, it’s a beautiful buggy that is sure to last.

Joolz geo³.jpg

  • Best : For growing with your family
  • Weight : 13kg

The latest release from Joolz feels like the Rolls Royce of buggies. Designed to grow with your family, it can easily be turned into a twin model, and folds with the seat attached.

There’s so much to love, including an enormous basket (the largest on the market), bouncy four wheel suspension, a built-in LED light for dark mornings, and a generous water repellent/sun-proof hood. It’s the perfect height to wheel straight up to the table, and the smooth, single-motion fold couldn’t be easier. Even the set-up is made fun, with a dedicated playlist that kicks off with Black Eyed Peas “Let’s get it started” — and we don’t want to brag but we’d completed it before track four ended.

Our mini tester was equally impressed, looking cosy as a bug in her padded, deep seat and appreciating the toy hanger loops on the bumper. The large ventilation areas were also a relief during the hot weather we’ve experienced. It’s also an ethical choice, with a tree planted on your behalf with every purchase. And for the ultimate peace of mind — it comes with a lifetime guarantee (ideal if you plan on having more children). Impressive stuff.

Thule urban glide 2 jogging stroller

Thule urban glide 2 jogging stroller.jpg

  • Best : For jogging
  • Weight : 11.5kg
  • Number of wheels : Three
  • Suitable from : Birth with a bassinet or six months + with normal seat

Active, outdoorsy parents need look no further, as this three-wheel model is made with jogging in mind. It’s reassuringly well-made, and thanks to large 16in back wheels (and a lockable front swivel wheel), we felt confident running over rough terrain, with our little one in tow. The adjustable handlebar brake makes it easy to switch between parents of differing heights while out and about, or slow down when going downhill.

It is possible to use from birth if you purchase the additional bassinet (however jogging isn’t recommended until your child is at least six months old). Otherwise the front-facing seat is reclinable for snoozing, and it comes with ample storage space. The fold was easy and intuitive (even with one hand), but to save space you’ll want to remove those chunky back tires.

Practical, stylish and ready for adventures, the Thule is a great option if space is less of a concern, and you don’t plan to use around the city too much.

Ickle Bubba stomp V4 all terrain travel system

Ickle Bubba stomp V4 all terrain travel system.jpg

  • Best : Value for money
  • Weight : 16.5kg

For those with budget at the forefront of their mind, Ickle Bubba offers excellent value for money, with various bundles offering every extra you’ll ever need. You wouldn’t know it was a cost-effective solution to look at it though, with a choice of stylish silver or bronze chassis and various fabric colours.

It was easy to assemble and smooth to manoeuvre – that said, it doesn’t feel quite as well-made as more expensive models on test, and can be a little rattly at times, particularly over the roughest terrain. It was easy enough to fold, however, for it to take up the least space, the seat does need removing first, which would be tricky with your little one in tow. All in all, we thought this was a solid choice given the price.

The verdict: All-terrain strollers

We think every buggy in this round-up serves a clearly defined end use, and we’re confident these are the very best models in the all-terrain strollers category today. Overall, Joolz was a very close runner-up, and if you’re a twin parent or considering a second child in short succession, this is undoubtedly the best choice. However, for us, Mamas and Papas just pips it to the post, as the ocarro packs up smaller and is cheaper, too, while still achieving a quality push, made with premium materials.

We put the Silver Cross Wave and iCandy Peach stroller head to head to find out which is best

Best all-terrain pushchairs and prams – uk edition.

best-all-terrain-pushchairs-and-prams-uk-edition

As we love spending our time in the outdoors, we would love to continue our adventures with our baby. Once baby is a bit older we can take him out paddling on our inflatable kayak . But one thing we can do from the very start is walk in nature. Hiking is our favourite activity, so really pleased, that we can continue doing it. I am excited to show our baby this beautiful world we live in. We even went for a mountain theme nursery , so hopefully, he will enjoy spending time in the hills, as much as we do!

I knew, that an excellent all-terrain travel system was inevitable to make our experience in the outdoors more enjoyable. We needed something, that we could use in the muddy countryside, local woodland, beach excursions and hiking in the mountains. I did a lot of research and talked to other outdoorsy parents in order to find the best all-terrain pushchair for our growing family. The UK market has many options for off-road strollers, prams, buggies and pushchairs. The aim of this article is to help you navigate this overwhelming selection and to assist you to find the best off-road pushchair for your needs.

All-terrain tyres

Something that is worth noting is that most traditional prams have puncture-proof wheels. All-terrain pushchairs have larger tires in general. This helps to absorb bumps. Many models use air-filled tires, just like you would find on a bicycle. This is to create a smooth ride on rough terrain. But the disadvantage is, that they can go flat when they lose air pressure or get a puncture by something sharp. In most cases, you can buy an alternative low maintenance wheel instead of the air-filled ones. Alternatively, you can also put slime in the air-filled tyres in places like Halfords or your local bike shop.

Out n About pram in the snow

Most off-road pushchairs are much bulkier than conventional ones. Measure your hallway and doors to see if they would fit. Also, consider how big they are when folded up and see if that would work with your car boot.

Kids bike trailers

I have a separate guide about the best kids bike trailers in the UK market. Many of the units in that post also function as off-road strollers. So I would suggest looking into this option as well if you enjoy cycling and want to save some money by only buying one thing.

Hauck Pushchair Runner 2 Review

A great cheap all-terrain pushchair. Fantastic value for your money. It is quite big, so make sure you have the space for it in your home or garage. Even when folded, it can take up a lot of space in your car boot. For us, this isn’t an issue, as we have an estate with a big boot. We sometimes even sleep in the car at the back. Also having a big stroller has its advantages as well, like the spacious basket for your shopping.

Newborn Suitability: It has a seat with a lying position, or you can buy a snuggly 2in1 carrycot that can be later transformed into a footmuff.

Out N About Nipper Review

I did an Out N About Nipper 360 review in more detail on my blog. Everyone I came across, that has this pushchair raves about it! It also seems like the Out n About customer service is fantastic. They are also a UK manufacturer & supplier, so you would be supporting a British based company. It has great all-terrain tyres. However, as with all air-filled tyres, you can get a puncture. If you want to avoid this you can get slime in it or buy the EVA wheels . The only thing you need to consider is the size of this pushchair, as it is quite big.

Newborn Suitability:  It was important for us to buy an all-terrain pushchair from birth. The seat reclines flat in the Nipper and can be used for a newborn like that. You can also purchase an extra newborn support . With these options, you won’t be facing your baby and you will have to strap your baby in. Alternatively, you can buy a carrycot . This way your baby can face you. The carrycot is not suitable for overnight sleeping.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Review

The most compact all terrain pushchair on our list. The biggest advantage of this model is its one-hand compact fold. This makes it a great size for travelling. It is freestanding once folded so really easy to store. It has quite small all terrain tires, which are actually foam rather than air, so there’s no need to worry about punctures. It has a hand-operated parking brake, which might be unusual at first, but it is easy to get used to it.

Newborn Suitability: It has a near-flat seat recline, so you will need a seperate  carrycot . It is suitable for occasional overnight sleeping and the mattress pad is machine washable, which is an added bonus.

Bumbleride Indie All Terrain Stroller Review

I love that this stroller was made with sustainability in mind. A great option for eco-conscious parents. The company uses 100% recycled PET for the fabric and 25% of the plastic frame components are sourced from recycled fishing nets. The air-filled wheels can take on any terrain and a pump is included in case it goes flat while you are out.

Newborn Suitability:  It is infant ready with the seat lying position. But you can also attach a bassinet if you want.

Thule Urban Glide 2 All Terrain Stroller Review

This company needs no introduction. Thule is well-known for its quality products and smart designs. This all-terrain stroller is no exception! Its all-terrain tyres will go smoothly on mud, snow, gravel and sandy beaches. The integrated twist hand brake is very convenient on steep trails and for running. This model is also very popular with jogging parents, as you can lock the front wheel in place. This prevents the stroller from bounding to keep the front wheel from spinning on you.

Newborn Suitability: Recommended for babies 6 months+. It can’t be used for a newborn without a bassinet . So plan for an extra expense if you want to use it from birth.

Bugaboo Fox 3 Review

A bit different to the other models, as this is a 4 wheel all-terrain pushchair. The puncture-proof wheels will also make your outing worry-free. It is the only all-terrain pram on our list, which has reversible seat, meaning your baby can be either world or parent facing. The basket at the bottom can take up to a 10 kg load, so you can pack a lot in there. At the same time, the unit itself is super lightweight and easy to carry when folded into an upright position.

Newborn Suitability: A carrycot is included, so you can use it from birth.

Joovy Scooter X2 Double Pushchair

This model is technically not an all-terrain pushchair, but it does quite well on uneven terrain. It could be a great budget-friendly option, just keep in mind, that it won’t ride as smooth as the other pushchairs in this post. It has a huge basket at the bottom, which is always handy for carrying stuff.

Newborn Suitability: Not recommended for infants under 3 months old, as the seats don’t lie flat. Unfortunately, there is no car seat adapter or carrycot for this stroller.

best travel system pushchairs uk

A budget-friendly option if you are looking for an all-terrain double stroller. It has a fantastic one-hand fold system, but it is quite heavy to carry. It is not suitable for running, but works great on countryside walks or even hiking in the hills. There is a cup holder on each side and a large shopping basket at the bottom. Plenty of space for all your (or the kids’) stuff.

Newborn Suitability:  The pram has a lie-flat position, which can be used for newborns. But you also have the option to purchase a 2-in-1 carrycot , which can function as a footmuff as well.

Out ‘n’ About Nipper Double V4

A very popular choice among outdoorsy families, as it rides great on off-road, it is very lightweight and still affordable. There is also a Facebook group ( Out n About Nipper Buy, Sell, Chat ), where you can get tips and advice about this pushchair or buy one second hand. There is a separate Sport version , that can be used for jogging.

Newborn Suitability:  You have a few options. Either use it as it is and lie the seat down completely or you can get a newborn support or carrycot for extra comfort. The carrycot is not suitable for overnight sleeping.

best travel system pushchairs uk

It is one of the narrowest side-by-side on the UK market. With 63 cm it is not any wider, than many single pushchairs. Really easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces. The front wheels can be locked and used for jogging as well. It rides great on different terrains thanks to its suspension and air-filled tyres.

Newborn Suitability: The seats incline horizontal making them suitable for newborns. Alternatively, you can also purchase a bassinet , which has been certified for overnight sleep.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double All-Terrain

A particularly good option for toddlers, as this stroller has a big weight capacity. It is not suitable for jogging, but perfect for walks. You don’t even need to worry about getting a flat tyre, as they are rubber. It has a great one-step quick-fold technology, but the pram itself is quite heavy, so not super convenient for travel.

Newborn Suitability: It can’t be used for a newborn without a carrycot , which needs to be purchased separately.

best travel system pushchairs uk

iCandy Peach All-Terrain Double

This model is a bit on the expensive side, but it comes with a lot of extras. It converts from a single to double pushchair or a full travel system with included car seat adaptors. It comes with a huge 44-litre basket, which can hold up to 10kg of shopping. However, it is difficult to access when in double mode with a carrycot.  Keep in mind, that the unit can feel quite heavy when in double mode, and with the extra weight it can be hard to push.

Newborn Suitability:  It comes with a carrycot, so can be used for a newborn. The carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping

Ocarro Pushchair

Mamas and Papas Ocarro Pushchair

You don’t need to be a hardcore outdoor adventurer to warrant choosing an all-terrain pram or pushchair these days. With light yet robust frames and generally three wheels instead of four for extra manoeuvrability, an off-road pushchair will ensure you don’t get stuck in the mud at the park or stranded on a sandy beach with a buggy that won’t budge. With one of these, nowhere is off-limits, whether you’re clattering over cobblestones or wandering through woodland.

If you have an outdoorsy lifestyle, you'll most likely want an all-terrain pram or pushchair. It’s a must if you love forest walks or more adventurous off-road exploits or if you want to take your baby with you in the pushchair when you’re out running . But even if you’re just after an easy-to-manoeuvre buggy that’ll cope with kerbs and uneven pavements, then it’s well worth considering, too. A bit more sturdier than a lightweight, compact pram , an all-terrain pram will ensure your baby gets a smooth ride over any terrain – rural or urban – so wobbly cheeks can become a thing of the past!

If you think you could be in the market for an all-terrain pram or pushchair, we've done the hard work for you and have rounded up the very best ones on the market available to buy.

All-terrain prams and pushchairs to buy

1. thule urban glide 2, best all-terrain pram and pushchair overall.

www.thule.com

This sleek all-terrain jogging pushchair has a lightweight design with large 16” wheels, suspension for comfort and control and a swivel front wheel for strolling and manoeuvring around town, which easily locks in place for jogging or rougher terrain. The integrated twist-hand brake ensures security and braking control on any hilly terrain and while running. We love the one-handed, compact fold which makes storing and transporting a doddle.

M&B tester Jim said: "You're buying quality, real quality that I think should last the course until your bubba exceeds the safety weight limit for the buggy. The Urban Glide 2 is sturdy and has worn well so far. We've used it now pretty much since the start of the year and have been very impressed - the pros the Urban Glide 2 offers seriously outweigh the minor cons, by a long way. We get a lot of admiring glances when people see us with it - especially at the various parkruns we've been to - and are asked a lot of questions about it, which we're happy to answer. It's a snazzy-looking bit of kit!"

Read our full Thule Urban Glide 2 review.

  • Brilliant for running
  • Lightweight yet very sturdy
  • Superb build quality
  • Adjustable ergonomic handlebar
  • Don't press/lean downward on handlebars too hard: feels like it could tip backwards when baby is reclined

2. Jané Trider

Best all-terrain pram and pushchair from birth.

www.pramworld.co.uk

Puncture-proof rubber wheels with an adjustable shock absorber make this pushchair a good buy for navigating between different terrains. The front swivel wheel and handlebar brake create good manoeuvrability. We love the high seat position – you can use this as a highchair when out and about – and the fact that the seat unit can face either direction. It's compact when folded and compatible with a Jané carrycot and car seat to use from birth.

Review: "Super stylish, really enjoyable to use, and easy to manoeuvre. It’s light and so compact – absolutely tiny when folded! Other pushchairs might handle rough terrain better but this is perfectly adequate for walks across the park. I like the idea of a handlebar brake but I kept forgetting where it was! My son's quite petite yet I think he’ll have outgrown this within six months but for now, he’s very comfortable."

  • High seat position
  • Adjustable suspension
  • One-handed unfold
  • Small shopping basket

3. Out ’n’ About Nipper Single

Best lightweight all-terrain pram and pushchair.

A lightweight aluminium frame with pneumatic tyres, independent rear suspension and a lockable swivel wheel make the Out 'n' About Nipper Single effortless to manoeuvre on any terrain. We like the adjustable handlebar and retractable sun canopy with window. Reviewers were impressed with the multi-position reclining seat with lie-flat mode, the large shopping pouch and handy storage pockets. It's compatible with a carrycot and car seat for a full travel system package.

Review: "When I first unpacked this I didn’t think I would like it as the design lacks some finesse and the harness is really fiddly – not ideal when you have a ‘planking’ toddler to contend with – but it’s really grown on me and now I absolutely love it! It’s lightweight and very user-friendly with a small turning circle, which makes it really easy to manoeuvre. An incredibly smooth ride overall."

Read our full Out 'n' About Nipper Single review.

  • Range of travel system options
  • Bespoke carrycot
  • Great for off-road/bumpy surfaces
  • Forward facing only

4. Cybex Avi

Best all-terrain pram and pushchair for easy steering.

One for the runners out there, the Avi is a lightweight running machine with a light, aluminium frame, air-filled tyres and rear suspension that promises a smooth run. It features easy, one-hand steering and the reflective details ensure improved visibility for safety. Suitable from 6 months.

Review: "With its large wheels, it was a great deal easier to push with an overly optimistic amount of grocery shopping shoved underneath its nice large undercarriage, making unexpected yellow sticker days at the supermarket sheer bargainous joy. Secondly, being able to push it with one hand was wonderful. Multi-tasking mommas will love this for both walking and running."

Read our full Cybex Avi review.

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to steer with one hand
  • Folds easily and compactly
  • Hard to adjust the backrest

5. Baby Jogger City Mini GT2

Best all-terrain pram and pushchair for folding.

A simple but efficient design, we love that the Baby Jogger pram folds down just by lifting the straps on the seat, an auto-lock securing it for travel or storage. The extendable UV50+ canopy has two magnetic windows so you can keep an eye on your baby while they stay shaded and your little one will appreciate the adjustable calf support and multi-position seat recline. Suitable from birth, just use the near-flat seat recline or add a carrycot or car seat which are sold separately.

Review: “Extremely pleased with this buggy. I already have the regular baby jogger city mini from my 1st child 7 years ago and adore it. It lasts so well and still fits the 7-year-old for trips to Disney. I wasn't sure about upgrading to the GT2 as it was more expensive than the regular mini but it is definitely worth it. The wheels are fantastic and the extra touches like the magnetic windows, footrest, hand break and extra padding really give it a more luxurious feel.”

  • One hand fold/unfold
  • Great for all terrain
  • Heavy to carry

6. Bugaboo Fox 5

Best all-terrain pram and pushchair travel system.

www.bugaboo.com

Effortless manoeuver any terrain thanks to puncture-proof wheels, the Bugaboo Fox 5 has a smart ergonomic seat design with a breezy carrycot and aerated mattress to keep your youngster cool, along with premium soft-touch fabrics, making it ultra-comfortable for newborns and toddlers. It can even be used with just one hand, whether you’re folding the pushchair, adjusting the handlebar or reclining the seat.

Reviewed by M&B tester Ashley: “It is impeccably well-designed, managing to be both totally functional and stylish. The fact that sustainable products have been used to manufacture it is a huge plus point in this modern age. The suspension system makes the ride silky smooth and coupled with the lightness and quality steering makes it very easy to push and manoeuvre. Folding it away and fitting this into a boot without taking it apart is a huge quality-of-life bonus. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a pram that is high in quality, design and easy to use."

Read our full Bugaboo Fox 5 review.

  • Stylish appearance
  • Lightweight but strong
  • Brilliant steering and handling
  • Fits into the boot without removing the seat
  • Can be difficult to first put together

7. iCandy Peach 7

Best all-terrain pram and pushchair for style.

www.icandyworld.com

Designed with style-conscious mums and dads in mind, the Peach 7 can be converted from a single to a double / twin pushchair. It offers lots of features to love such as plush fabric, spacious under-seat storage and an integrated Ride-on Board for families with toddlers who want to hop on for the ride. Suitable from birth with the choice of the included carrycot or seat unit.

M&B tester Natalie said: “Overall, I have been very impressed with the quality of the pushchair and my baby absolutely loves going out in it. It has also been incredibly useful as a makeshift highchair in busy restaurants thanks to the seat height adaptors and a comforting bed for outdoor naps. I would definitely recommend the Peach 7, especially for parents who need to take a lot of stuff with them or those expecting another baby as it can easily accommodate a second child with the use of adaptors."

Read our full iCandy Peach 7 review.

  • Extremely comfortable for baby to sit and sleep in
  • Generous 44-litre basket which holds up to 10kg in weight
  • Smooth suspension and very easy to push with puncture-proof tyres
  • Can be easily converted into a double/twin pushchair
  • The frame is very heavy to carry when folded and takes up quite a bit of space when not in use
  • The cup holder is difficult to reach whilst walking and makes narrow places difficult to navigate due to how much it sticks out

8. Mamas and Papas Ocarro Pushchair

Best all-terrain pram and pushchair with dual suspension.

www.mamasandpapas.com

A Mother and Baby gold award winner, the Mamas & Papas Ocarro has a large, robust design which makes it perfect for tackling all-terrain journeys. The dual suspension can easily handle the ups and downs of off-roading while you can be assured your baby stays snug and cosy in the large, comfy seat plus padded chest pads and head hugger. Suitable from birth.

Review: "This buggy is easy to fold down (and at a push could probably do this one-handed although I haven't had to test this myself!). Also the assembly is so perfect for nursery drop-offs and pick-ups. It also folds to a very slimline design that fits easily in the boot, but is still big enough and comfortable enough for our difficult sleeper to sleep happily in!"

Read our full Mama & Papas Ocarro review.

  • Ideal for uneven terrain thanks to the dual suspension
  • Folds away with one hand
  • Easy to carry when folded
  • Reflective wheel rims for night time walks
  • Doesn't include a footmuff
  • Difficult to stand up straight and balance when folded

What makes an all-terrain pram different?

Often designed with a single front swivel wheel to make it easier to push along different kinds of terrain, it makes it suitable for cobblestones, woodland walks and even muddy fields. They're a lot more practical than standard prams, whose wheels might often be smaller and less durable on rough flooring.

All-terrain pram and pushchair: things to think about

Do you need a travel system?

Some all-terrain pushchairs are also travel systems, which means you can remove the seat unit and attach a carrycot or infant car seat to the chassis if you wish. This is useful if you drive to most places you go, as you can move your baby between your vehicle and pushchair without disrupting her. But if you don’t have a car or only use it infrequently, your money would be better spent on an all-terrain pushchair with a fixed seat. Remember, if you're simply looking for a pushchair that travels easy, you might be better off with a travel stroller instead.

How much storage space do you have?

Some of these prams and pushchairs are much bulkier than conventional four-wheeled ones, so you’ll need plenty of space to store it when it’s not in use. And the fold isn’t always as compact as you might like. Do check that it will fit the limited space in your hallway and that it’s small enough for your car boot and light enough to lift in and out easily.

Do you plan to take it running?

If you’re a keen runner, choose a pushchair that’s officially approved for running, as not all models are. Heavier models might be less comfortable to run with, too.

Do you want to use it from birth?

To get the functionality, not all of these prams and pushchairs are suitable from birth, and many of the seats mean they’re only suitable for use from six months. Those that convert to travel systems can be used from birth if you attach the appropriate carrycot or car seat – but this may be an additional expense, so remember to factor that into your budget.

What to look for in an all-terrain pram and pushchair

Seat recline: A good seat recline – preferably lie-flat – means comfortable naps on the go. And if you’re likely to be out for a while, that’s important. Check how easy it is to adjust and if the mechanism is quiet to operate so as not to disturb your baby.

Handlebar: A height-adjustable handlebar is an absolute must if you and your partner – or anyone else who is likely to use the pushchair regularly – are of different heights. Check how easy it is to adjust it to suit your particular needs.

Wrist strap: A safety feature worth having on an all-terrain pram or buggy, a wrist strap minimises the risk of it rolling away on sloping ground. Check if you can buy one separately if it’s not included.

Hood: Check how far the hood extends because if you’re spending time outside, you’ll want it to protect your baby well from wind, rain and sun. If the seat is forward-facing, a viewing panel in the hood means you can check on your baby easily.

Washable fabric: All-terrain pushchairs are built to withstand the elements, but they tend to get muddier than the average pushchair, so it’s worth choosing one with washable fabrics that are easy to keep clean.

Suspension: Some all-terrain prams and pushchairs have more sophisticated suspensions than others. Think about the sort of ground you cover and whether the ride feels smooth enough for your baby to nap in on a typical walk without getting jolted awake.

Chassis weight: An all-terrain pram or pushchair is never going to be the lightest option, but if you need to lift it in and out of your car boot regularly, choose one with a lightweight chassis.

Shopping basket: The baskets on these tend to be generously sized, but think about what you’ll want to take. If you’re planning on big adventures then you’ll need room for a change of clothes, extra layers and a picnic.

Wheels: The wheels on all-terrain prams and pushchairs are all designed to cope with rough terrain. A lockable front swivel wheel allows you to control the manoeuvrability and is really useful if you’ll be switching between smooth and rough ground. Air-filled wheels make for a smooth ride but look for puncture-proof tyres so you won’t need to carry a puncture repair kit with you, too.

Brake: Most models have a foot-operated brake. Some, especially those suitable for running, have an additional brake control on the handlebar. This is a useful option for slowing the buggy when you’re going downhill.

Fold mechanism: Check how easy it is to fold and unfold. Could you do it with one hand while holding your baby? Make sure it fits your car boot, and choose one that’s free-standing when folded if storage space is limited.
