Dierks Bentley's Beers on Me Tour

During the Beers on Me 2021 tour, Dierks Bentley is   determined to give fans an unforgettable experience. "Have a great time and have fun," he told E! News. "Like the song ‘Beers on Me' says, ‘Everybody's got a problem, so do I / But we ain't gonna solve 'em on a Saturday night.' This is the time to let it all go. Have fun, catch up with friends, scream, yell, shout. Just let it all go for a night."

Pre-Show Ritual

"Before the show, I'm just spending time with the band either on our bus or in the dressing room," Dierks revealed. "There are shots being passed around. There are old friends I haven't seen in a while. It's just a lot of excitement. I'm usually pretty busy for the two hours leading up the show to take care of friends and guests I haven't seen in a while."

How does Dierks and the crew unwind after long days of traveling? With a game of pickleball, obviously.

Ridin' Dirty

In between performing in Oregon, Utah and Idaho, Dierks, along with his band and crew, were able to enjoy the scenery while breaking a sweat on bikes.

Leader of the Pack

"I've done so much preparation for the tour in advance. Now, I really feel like my job is just to show up and be present in the moment," Dierks reflected. "It's a concert, but my job is just to get it started. Once the concert's going, it becomes a party and I just get to be bartender and oversee it. I love my role and I love what I get to do."

"I get to thank the band publicly onstage, but it's surreal what my crew does," Dierks shared. "The opening weekend reminds me of how much work goes into these tours. I get up from my bunk in the morning and I look out and my guys are already putting the stage together...These guys work their butts off, day in and day out…I have the best crew in the business."

Family Forever

With school in session, Dierks' three kids will likely come out to see a show once a month. According to the singer, they savor every moment on the road. "They're all involved in some way and they love it," he shared. "They love the bus. They say, ‘Dad, you can never quit.' It's pretty fun."

Opening Stars

"I feel super honored to have these guys on the road," Dierks shared after performing with his opening acts Parker McCollum and Riley Green . "Parker is already playing for 20,000 people back in his home state of Texas. He's going to be a huge star. He's a great guy, has great energy and is fun to be around."

Acts to Watch

"To me, Riley Green is like the next superstar," Dierks shared when discussing his opening act. "He's a great songwriter, great singer. He has that kind of quintessential Alabama country thing going on around."

Attention to Detail

No matter if your seats are in the pit section or the last row, Dierks wants to give you a show. "I'm just trying to reach every person that's there," he explained. "I went to a Garth Brooks concert when I was a kid and I felt like he was singing right to me and I was in the back...I still felt like he was singing right to me…You got to treat the amphitheaters like you're playing at the Honky Tonk and you want to reach out to everyone and sometimes that requires leaving the stage and walking physically out there to the grass or going for a stage dive."

Wait for It

Attention, concertgoers! Don't leave early or you may just miss the Hot Country Knights . "The Knights have to come out at the end of the night," Dierks teased. "You've got to stick around for the whole show if you want to get your '90s country fill."

Fashion Transformation

"We have wardrobe cases on the road, but most of that is for the Hot Country Knights," Dierks joked when discussing tour fashion. "They have more elaborate costumes. I try to keep it fairly simple. I start off with the same black jeans and then a pair of boots. Up top is Flag & Anthem...I guess I describe my fashion as efficient and utilitarian."

Dierks bentley explains why he got ‘oilspotted’ on tour last weekend..

DIERKS BENTLEY EXPLAINS WHY HE GOT ‘OILSPOTTED’ ON TOUR LAST WEEKEND.

How in the world does a tour headliner and superstar get left behind on tour? Well, it happens, and Dierks Bentley found out the hard way this past weekend. It seems Dierks got caught up talking to a couple of his buddies and totally missed his entire Somewhere on a Beach Tour leave him behind in Maryland Heights, Missouri. He actually had to call his tour bus driver to come back and pick him up.

http://twitter.com/DierksBentley/status/764358041168936960/photo/1

“[For] 12, 13 years, and I’ve never been oilspotted. Oilspotted is when you walk back out to where your ride is supposed to be and you look down and all you see is oil on the ground – oilspotted,” says Dierks. “So, I was on a bus with my buddy Brian O’Connell and Randy Houser was on there and my booking agent, Jay Williams, was on there, and then at some point it was just me on there with Brian. We were just talking, talking, talking, and I walked off the bus and looked out, and it was a parking lot. All the seven semi-trucks were gone and all the busses were gone, and it was just crickets. I was like, what is going on? I called my bus driver, and he was about a half hour down the road, and I was like, ‘You’ve got to come back and get me. I’m not riding on Brian’s bus. He’s not even going to where I need to go.’ So, I started walking down the service road and trying to make the drive back for my bus driver a little shorter. He picked me up and we went on to the next gig.”

At his next gig, everyone, including band and crew, got into the act of making fun of him. “The next day on tour, people had made T-shirts and there were signs posted all around that said, ‘Missing.’ It made for some good tour stories, for sure,” said the dad of three. “This was the first time it had happened for me, and at some point in everyone’s career on the road, they’re gonna get oilspotted, so it took me a while to reach that spot, but I’m officially in the club now.”

The next stop on Dierks’ tour, which also features  Randy Houser, Cam  and  Tucker Beatherd , is in Mountain View, California September 9th.

Audio / Dierks Bentley explains how he got left at his tour date this past weekend.

Dierks Bentley (being left on tour) OC: …the club now. 1:10 “Yeah, you know, 12, 13 years, and I’ve never been oilspotted. Oilspotted is when you walk back out to where your ride is supposed to be and you look down and all you see is oil on the ground – oilspotted. So, I was a bus with my buddy Brian O’Connell and Randy Houser was on there and my booking agent, Jay Williams, was on there, and then at some point it was just me on there with Brian. The next day on tour, people had made T-shirts and there were signs posted all around that said, ‘Missing.’ It made for some good tour stories, for sure. Before his return to the road this summer, Bentley brings back his HIGH TIMES & HANGOVERS club tour next week with five shows in five nights, as the last time he headlined a dive bar tour by the same name was 2006. Additionally this summer, Bentley has been tapped to headline major festivals including the Telluride Bluegrass Festival (6/13), Windy City Smokeout (7/10), Oregon Jamboree (7/30) and Watershed (7/31).

Bentley continues to be a dominant voice for the genre with over 6.4 billion streams. Dierks Bentley Kicks Off 2024 "Gravel & Gold" Tour

Article contributed by the greenroom | published on tuesday, june 11, 2024.

dierks bentley tour bus

Multi-Platinum entertainer Dierks Bentley returned to the road with his GRAVEL & GOLD TOUR presented by Jersey Mike’s this weekend, marking the beginning of summer by filling amphitheaters in Memphis, TN, Fort Worth, TX and Rogers, AR. The “full-scope, no filler concert experience” (City Beat) once again finds Bentley brimming with energy, performing a diverse set list that spans his hit-filled two decade career as well covers of fellow country and bluegrass greats. Larger-than-life production touches perfectly compliment the band’s skilled musicianship, including a massive LED wall with sparkling projections and an on-stage shotski with Dierks. This weekend, Bentley performed fan favorites and his chart-topping reimagination of Tom Petty’s classic “American Girl” along with special collaborations with anticipated opener Chase Rice and honky-tonk newcomer Zach Top. Chase Rice joined Bentley for a melody of two of his most popular No. 1 hit songs, "Somewhere on a Beach" and "Beers On Me", while Zach Top joined Bentley to duet a special cover of the 90s classic, "Old Enough to Know Better." Fans can relive the magic of the weekend HERE and purchase tickets for upcoming GRAVEL & GOLD TOUR dates at Dierks.com .

"There is nothing like the opening weekend of a tour. Seeing all the work that goes into building this rollercoaster of a set and show, come to life, is the greatest feeling. Even after all these years of doing it, I’m reminded every year how insanely fun it is to tour like we do," Bentley says. "I speak for the entire band and crew when I say how much we love and appreciate the fans that come out to be part of these special summer nights and we are so pumped for the rest of the tour."

Last week just hours before launching the tour, Bentley gave Entertainment Tonight a first look at the Gravel & Gold Tour from rehearsals, watch HERE . Dierks Bentley , a Grammy-nominated country singer, will headline Riverbend Music Center this weekend. But this isn't his first rodeo in Cincinnati.

Bentley kicked off his "Gravel & Gold" tour Thursday in Toledo and will make a stop in the Queen City on Saturday, June 15. Bentley's 2024 tour coincides with his recent album of the same name, released in February 2023.

However, the upcoming concert isn't Bentley's first time performing in Cincinnati. Bentley told The Enquirer he performed his first show in the area in 2003 and has been headlining in Cincinnati since 2014. Bentley recently brought his "Beers on Me" tour to Riverbend in 2021.

According to the country music star, "It's not summer without a show in Cincinnati."

Bentley recently chatted about his tour, his music and his time performing in Cincinnati. Take a look at the conversation below.

Dierks Bentley talks 'Gravel & Gold' tour, Cincinnati memories

Q: Can you tell me more about the inspiration behind your 10th studio album, "Gravel & Gold"?

Bentley: This is my 10th studio album. I really want it to be a collection of my greatest sounds and what I've been known for in country music – commercial country music, but also traditional and '90s country and some bluegrass. I really want to have a collection of all those sounds in one place.

So that was the idea sonically, and lyrically, I just spent a lot of time writing songs, listening to songs, trying to find all the bricks I needed to build the house I was trying to build. This idea of gravel and gold is something that's pretty prevalent in my life. Trying to realize a lot of things that feel like gravel right now actually might be gold in time and having an attitude of gratitude.

Q: Why the name "Gravel & Gold"? Is it a metaphor for where you started versus where you are now in your career?

Bentley: The song "Gold," I felt like that summed up that idea of "might be gravel, but it feels like gold." That's such a life lesson. The roads you have to travel to get to where you want to be. It's a grind. ... In my mind, we travel a lot of roads: back roads, highways, dirt roads, gravel roads to get to these venues. And when we get to the venue, that's where the gold is. That's where the audience is. That's where the fans are. That's where the music lives, and that's what it's really all about.

Q: I read on Apple Music that this album may not "hew closely to current trends," but it reflects the kind of music you've always wanted to make. What kind of music is that?

Bentley: Well, I think my sound has always been like the electric guitar, the drums, the bass, the big sounds that are part of all modern country music. But I also love the mandolin. I love the fiddle. I love the banjo and the dobro.

I'm always trying to go for stuff and stretch the boundaries, but at the end of the day, I feel like I'm always chasing this one sound, which is mixing those bluegrassy instruments with some of the bigger, heavier instruments. I was proud of the way it turned out on this album.

Q: Your last album, "The Mountain," was released in 2018. Why so much time in between projects?

Bentley: When COVID came around, I took a break. A lot of my friends were going hard on music at that point, but for me, it was just a chance to take a little break from it all. It's like your car's parked at a red light. You can either sit in the car and wait for the world to turn green or use it as an opportunity to do something else for a little bit. And, for me, that was a chance to get outdoors and make up for some of the time I lost doing this for the last 20 years.

Q: What do you hope listeners take away from the album?

Bentley: Just recognizing that's the way life is. It might be gravel, but it feels like gold. That's what I'm going to pass on to my kids. Things are hard, and you've got to work for what you want, but that's what life's about.

Q: What can audiences expect from your show at Riverbend on Saturday?

Bentley: It's going to be so fun. I can't wait. We just love what we do. I got a great band, great crew, everyone's just so fun to be around. ... I think that translates into the show. I try to build a roller coaster to take everyone on for a ride.

Q: How many times have you performed in Cincinnati?

Bentley: Since 2003, I've been coming up there. But Riverbend, I've been headlining there on my own since 2014 or 2015. It's just a great venue. It's just a lot of memories playing there. It's not summer without a show in Cincinnati.

Q: Do you ever get to explore the Cincinnati area before or after your shows?

Bentley: I've been to that area a lot. I've played pickleball. There's a great pickleball court set up along the river. There's the ( National Underground Railroad Freedom Center ) I've been inside of. It's a cool town. It kind of feels like Nashville 15 years ago. I don't know if you've been to Nashville recently, but it's very busy, very crazy. Cincinnati is a little smaller than that, which I like. ... My family's had a lot of fun over the years, going to Putt-Putt golf and water parks. It's just a lot of fun.

Q: I have to ask. Have you ever tried Cincinnati chili ?

Bentley: No. Should I?

That's the dish we're known for. It's served over spaghetti or on hot dogs. It's very popular here and a bit different than the typical Texas-style chili. But it's very controversial. People either love it, or they hate it.

Bentley: All right, I'm going to get some and try it, and I'm going to talk about it during the show. Hope you're not steering me wrong.

Dierks Bentley Goes Bluegrass in Telluride with New Band Long Jon

For continuing coverage from the 50th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival, follow Saving Country Music on Instagram. You really have to admire Dierks Bentley, no matter what you think of his big radio singles or major label releases. You can put him in the class of one of the most successful modern country artists. And sure, he’s had to tow the line with Music Row at times to get there. But it’s unmistakable that he also takes the time to follow his heart, and do what he wants to do, even if that comes at the detriment of revenue in the long-term. The 50th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival commenced on Thursday, June 15th in Colorado, and for Dierks, it might as well be in his backyard. A part-time Telluride resident, Dierks often shows up for the festivities, even if he’s not directly participating. Last year he proved just how much of a good dude he was by sticking around in the rain for the first Telluride headlining set by Molly Tuttle and her band Golden Highway. Dierks had jumped on stage with Tuttle in previous years, and recently took her out as an opener. But this year, Dierks did more than just attend. Though he wasn’t mentioned by name anywhere on the festival posters or in the publicity copy, Dierks was there with his dedicated bluegrass band called Long Jon. In 2022, Long Jon started making appearances at the legendary Station Inn in Nashville, known for being the home of bluegrass in Music City, and where Dierks got his start in town way back in 1994. Soon a standing residency on the first Tuesday of every month started coming together. Joining Dierks Bentley in Long Jon is: –Guitarist and Bluegrass Director at Bethel University Ben Helson , who Dierks refers to as the true leader of the band. –Solo performer and well-known banjo player Charlie Worsham –Fiddle and mandolin player (and full-time Dierks Bentley touring musician) Dan Hochhalter . –Dobro player Josh Matheny . –Banjo player Tim Sergent . –Dierks band bass player Cassady Feasby . –Dierks band drummer Steve Misamore . What or who is Long Jon named for? The real Long Jon is Dierks Bentley’s tour bus driver . Grinning from ear to ear, Dierks said about Long Jon making their debut at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, “It’s the greatest stage in the world, and the greatest view.” It was also Charlie Worsham’s first time playing the festival, despite playing with anyone and everyone in country and bluegrass for years. Long Jon’s set was mostly filled with bluegrass standards, and showed extra favor to the catalog of Jimmy Martin, from “Sugar Coated Love” to “Freeborn Man.” Dierks also played a couple of selections from his recent Colorado-inspired album Gravel & Gold including “Sun Sets in Colorado” and “Still.” Though Dierks is definitely the big name of the band, all the members took turns singing and soloing, except Bentley didn’t play any solos. He left that to the experts, and humorously blamed having the wrong pick for flatpicking as his excuse. With the level of the talent on the stage, Dierks was smart to cede attention to the other players. At one point, fiddle player Jason Carter and Ronnie McCoury of the Del McCoury Band joined Dierks and Long Jon on stage for “Fire On The Mountain” and “Midnight Flyer.” Later members of Greensky Bluegrass and Sam Bush also joined in. Near the end, Charlie Worsham sang a version of Jimmy Martin’s “Homesick” that was absolutely divine (see full set list at bottom). Even though Dierks Bentley might be considered a bit too mainstream for the bluegrass world, the Long Jon set was definitely appropriate and highly-appreciated by the Telluride Bluegrass faithful who had to fight through fits of mountain rain during the afternoon set. Of course Dierks has a long history with bluegrass himself, first coming up at The Station Inn in Nashville, and releasing the album Up on the Ridge in 2010 featuring The Del McCoury Band, Alison Krauss, Chris Thile, and The Punch Brothers, all of whom are also playing the 50th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival this weekend. Dierks has another side project with his band, the side-splitting 90s-inspired Hot Country Knights that just released a new single “ Herassmeant .” It’s these kinds of efforts that separate him from the mainstream country herd. But it all started with bluegrass, for Dierks Bentley, and for country music. Dierks knows that more than anyone. And even though he does his time cutting radio singles and playing arenas, he also takes the time to pay homage to the past. And with Dierks, you know it’s not just for presentation. It comes from his passion for the bluegrass art form. All photos Kyle “Trigger” Coroneos

Love when DB embraces older country & bluegrass. He shines!

' data-tf-not-load src=

Minority opinion here, no doubt, but I have never been a fan of Bluegrass music. From Bill Monroe, to Flatt & Scruggs, Jimmie Martin and all others, I just can’t find anything about it that appeals to me, EXCEPT for the fact that I am mightily impressed with the musicianship that is the hallmark of the genre. Those guys are stellar performers on the Martins, mandolins and banjos. However, whenever I hear a Bluegrass tune, I can’t help but remember the old musicians’ joke about the definition of “perfect pitch,” which is when you throw the banjo into the trash can and hit the accordion that was already in there.

' data-tf-not-load src=

I can relate to not finding the “typical” traditional bluegrass voice appealing, and I usually changed the station if it was bluegrass playing on a sunday but I cannot understand how anyone wouldn’t love Alison Krauss and Union Station or Nickle Creek/Punch Brothers/Chris Thile.

And Dierks is basically a prostitute with a 4 yr college degree

I DO like Allison Krauss. And I like songs that were originally Bluegrass that have been “modernized” by others. For instance, who doesn’t like Elvis Presley’s, “Blue Moon of Kentucky” or Roger Millers, “Footprints in the Snow?”

' data-tf-not-load src=

Yes for introducing people not into bluegrass, AKUS, Sierra Hull, Stapleton-era Steeldrivers, Molly Tuttle, Billy Strings are good go-tos off the top of my head. Then Del McCoury Band, Greensky Bluegrass, The Dead South…

Del McCoury performed a really funny song on the Marty Stuart Show, about some rich guy from the city moving out into the country next to McCoury. Referring to the rich guy and his little farm, the name of the tune is “Forty Acrea and a Fool.”

' data-tf-not-load src=

Have you ever listened to The Dillards? They played the Darling Boys on The Andy Griffith Show and on that show they did songs even non bluegrass fans like like Dooley, Mocking Banjos (a variation of Dueling Banjos that predated it’s use in Deliverance by being played in the episode “Briscoe declares for Aunt Bea) Ebo Walker and Dance all night stay a little longer. For non bluegrass they also did a wonderful rendition of Leaning on the everlasting arms that should’ve been released on an album and There is a time that Maggie Peterson sang

' data-tf-not-load src=

I felt the same way about bluegrass for a long time. Loved the instrumentation but hated the vocals. Funny story me and my Dad were driving through Pidgeon Forge, TN and he was switching through the radio stations and found a Bluegrass/Country station. It was a super traditional bluegrass song. Now my dad is a rock & roll guy and kept it on that station due to my love of country music. I didn’t really care about bluegrass till much later. it must have been 7 in the morning and after 5 minutes he knudged me and said “Son, you see this here cup of coffee?” I said Yeah. He then said “As soon as I’m done with this here cup of coffee that shit is going off” I laughed so hard and said Dad you can change the channel I don’t like bluegrass that much. He said “Thank God!, That Is the worst “Music” i’ve heard”. I tell that story all the time and we laugh about still.

Sometimes it is good to listen to older things you don’t fully enjoy or understand. I was this way in high school when the rock stations played blues on sunday afternoons. After awhile I started to appreciate it more and more. And you start to hear the difference between Howlin’ Wolf’s “chair album” and the Steven Segall/Jim Belushi (according to Jim) weekend blues bands.

' data-tf-not-load src=

Once again, some really great pictures.

Wishing you a wonderful time throughout the weekend.

Need a photo of Trig’s Winnebago!

Was wondering earlier if Trig was at Waylon’s campground, just for the sake of checking it out – or if he was headed other places as well. Now we know! Lucky duck

' data-tf-not-load src=

Yeah I appreciate an artist embraces Bluegrass which feels like one of the roots of Country Music. Was listening to JD Crowe & the New South yesterday and thinking what great music they made! Bigtex, you might like them!

' data-tf-not-load src=

Dierks is extremely talented. Say what you will about his later albums( crap) but don’t overlook his early work, definitely listen to Up on The Ridge. I don’t think he is quite ready to go all in on the grass like Ricky Skaggs did, probably for financial reasons, but he’s intriguingly inching his way closer to the real deal stuff. Trig I know it must be a real sacrifice to have to go two years in a row to Telluride, I’m feeling it for you! You are a noble man, taking one for the team! 😁

' data-tf-not-load src=

Now that is a Dierks Bentley side project I can get behind. And look at the view. I’m so jealous.

' data-tf-not-load src=

That would have been awesome to see!

' data-tf-not-load src=

What a great festival. I went in 2019 and had a great time. For those here that do like bluegrass (no clue how you can’t), the Stringdusters have a tribute album to Flatt & Scruggs being released today.

' data-tf-not-load src=

Bentley’s earlier records have some good song on them. He cut his teeth on Bluegrass, and has recorded some solid music in the genre, as well. Good on him now that his mainstream success is mostly behind him for diving deeper into the grass.

' data-tf-not-load src=

I saw Long Jon at The Station Inn in January and highly recommend that show. Dierks lets his whole band have the spotlight. In that regard, Long Jon reminds me of Vince Gill’s shows with The Time Jumpers a few years ago.

' data-tf-not-load src=

They played at 7 Peaks on the small side stage during a big set. Sad that isn’t happening this year.

Two Buses of Dierks Bentley

Is this how you know you've made it? When you have one tour bus full of booze and vinyl -- and one tour bus full of toys and kiddie pools?

I'll ask Dierks Bentley next time I see him. Because he recently told People magazine that when his wife Cassidy and their kids -- Evalyn, 7, Jordan, 5, and Knox, 2 -- come out on the road with him, that's what life will be like.

It sounds like Bentley's own bus is where the after, after, after parties happen.

"We have a bar set up called Whiskey Row in every backstage area with a big tent and music," Bentley said. "It's open to everyone who comes backstage, and it's just a fun hang, and that usually spills off into the bus, and we'll listen to vinyl records on the bus until 2 in the morning."

But the other bus is another story.

"We'll grab a second bus and come out, and I'll load that bus with kiddie pools and remote control cars and chalk and water balloons and rockets to shoot up in the air -- everything," he said. "I live off Red Bull, and it's the craziest month, but it's really fun."

That’s because the CMA Award-winner just announced new dates to his recently completed headlining trip across the United States.

The extension of the tour will take him to venues all over North America come early 2022.

For more information on the winter “Beers On Me” tour, we’ll tell you everything you need to know.

Where can I buy tickets to see Dierks Bentley?
