• You can also hire a lawyer to conduct a thorough check on your behalf if you are facing a possible travel ban.

Residents of Abu Dhabi can use the Estafser e-service to check if they have any claims filed against them in public prosecution.

Residents in the capital can visit the Judicial Department in the Abu Dhabi website to check if they have any claims filed against them in Public Prosecution. A unified ID number is required at their Estafser e-service where requests related to cases can be made.

The preliminary requirement to check the travel ban status online is to have a valid Emirates ID card. In Dubai, the easiest method to enquire regarding a travel ban is by using the Dubai Police’s free of cost service online. These are the various platforms available for the enquiry:

1. Enter Dubai Police app or website and select ‘services’.

2. Click on ‘Criminal Status of Financial cases’.

3. Enter your Emirates ID number

4. Verify your identity via a one-time password (OTP) sent through an SMS on your registered mobile number.

Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah

In Abu Dhabi, the Estasfer service by the Judicial Department of Abu Dhabi enables the residents of Abu Dhabi to check whether they are requested by the Public Prosecution for any claims against them. To use the service, you must enter his/her unified ID (UID) number. You can access the service here .

When you cancel an old visa and apply for a new one, you would get a new visa number. However, your UID number will remain the same.

Ras Al Khaimah

You can also check the status of any court or public prosecution case you may have against you in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, by using the RAK government’s official portal here .

Please note that you would need to provide your case number and year to enquire about the status of the case.

You can also reach out to the Ras Al Khaimah’s Public Prosecution on 07 2070000.

If you do not have a case number reference, you can visit a police station in Ras Al Khaimah, and ask for the CID section to place an inquiry.

How to lift the travel ban?

Usually when a case is resolved, the travel ban gets lifted. However, sometimes you might need to follow up.

Once you check the status of your travel ban through Dubai Police, the service will also inform you of the relevant authority, which you need to approach to request for lifting the ban.

Request lifting travel ban with Dubai Court

If the travel ban is due to a Dubai Court order, you can request for the ban to be lifted, indicating the reasons for the request and attaching the supporting documents here .

The service is free of charge, according to the Dubai Courts website.

You can file a request for lifting a travel ban order in relation to a case here .

You would need to submit the application and the required documents either at the court or online, through the link above.

The application is presented to the competent public prosecutor. In case of approval, you will receive a copy of the travel ban cancellation order via email.

How to Check if You Have a Travel Ban in Dubai

If you have ever been involved in a financial case and you would like to check your status, as well as see if you are banned to travel to Dubai, the  Dubai Police has introduced a new service that allows you to do so. Let’s say you want to check if you have a travel ban because one party reported you for having defaulted on your credit card or defaulted on a bank loan , there is an online facility by Dubai Police to verify.

According to the Director of Artificial Intelligence Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi , anyone can use the service to check on their status. Consequently, they can also use it to verify if they have a travel ban in Dubai.

NOTE: This facility is used for travel ban due to financial case issues (bounced checques, etc.) and those reported within Dubai only, not for other emirates. It is possible that you may have had a different type of ban (immigration, permanent ban, etc.) so you should check with other government authorities to inquire.

“Residents can check their criminal status in financial cases registered in police stations in Dubai,” Brigadier Al Razooqi explained. “The service will cut time and effort in getting information regarding any cases against them.”

“People can also download the Dubai Police smart app and enjoy the service,” he added. Hence, if you have a pending financial case, you can use this service to check if you have a travel ban.

Moreover, the Director commented that everyone should benefit from the electronic services provided by Dubai Police. “It’s part of our strategy in implementing smart and unique services to the public, for better customer service,” he stated.

Guide to Checking if You Have a Travel Ban The new service is offered by the Criminal Investigation Department of Dubai Police. Before you use it, make sure that you have a valid Emirates ID . Then, follow these steps:

• Go to the Dubai Police official website  or download the Dubai Police app on your Android or iOS gadget.
• Click on the “ Services ” link.
• Select “ Individuals .”
• Search for “ Criminal Status of Financial Cases .”
• Enter the service using your Emirates ID .

Nigeria: Two Years After UAE Visa Ban, Portal Opens As Emirates' Bookings Resume

Ahead of the resumption of its flights on October 1, 2024, after a two-year hiatus, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) flag carrier, Emirates, has opened ticket booking for Nigerian passengers.

This was just as the visa application portal was also opened for Nigerians visiting the UAE.

Emirates had in May, this year announced it would resume services to Nigeria from October 1, operating a daily service between Lagos and Dubai, two years after the airline suspended flights to Nigeria over inability to repatriate funds from its ticket sales in Nigeria as it was owed over $85m.

Authorities in the UAE also followed with a visa ban on Nigerians, thereby halting movement between Nigeria and the UAE.

Daily Trust reports that the federal government reopened negotiations with the UAE authorities and Emirates with a view to resolving the issues.

Ahead of the resumption of its flights in less than one month from now, Emirates has opened booking for Nigerian passengers with the cheapest fare of $665.30 (N1,059,969.41) and $8,852 for first class.

This means that any passenger who wants to travel from Lagos to Dubai or Dubai to Lagos from October 1, 2024, can book on the airline's website.

Sources told our correspondent yesterday that the visa application portal had also been opened, with Emirates communicating the development to its Nigerian travel partners.

"We are excited to inform you that the Dubai Visa Processing Centre (DVPC) has reopened and they are now accepting visa applications for passengers travelling to Dubai," a message sighted by our correspondent read.

Checks by our correspondent indicated that a 60-day tourist visa costs N218,450 without any verification fee.

In addition, those stranded in the UAE who want to return home have also been granted amnesty with effect from September 1.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) announced the two-month visa amnesty. The period offers a crucial opportunity for individuals staying illegally in the UAE to rectify their status without facing fines or penalties.

The amnesty is comprehensive, covering all types of visas, including tourist visas, expired residency visas, and even in situations where individuals were born without any official documentation.

The UAE government said that the inclusivity ensured that a wide range of individuals could benefit from the programme; whether they had overstayed their visa or never had proper documentation.

Many Nigerians in the UAE are expected to take advantage of the amnesty to either regularise their stay or exit the country, Daily Trust was told.

A Nigerian resident in the UAE who spoke with our correspondent yesterday said, "Those of us who are here, including those who have overstayed, can take advantage of the amnesty window to return home.

"For those of us who are here now, we can get a visa with the amnesty, and you can get it with all the charges and levies removed. Maybe by next week, those people in Nigeria who want to come to the UAE can begin to get visas, but for now, the amnesty is for those who are here in the UAE."

It would be recalled that the federal government announced that the UAE had lifted its visa ban on Nigerians.

As soon as the announcement was made by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, a fake website was created indicating that applicants were to pay N640,000 verification fee and a proof of $10,000 in their accounts each. Some people who rushed to pay through the website later found it to be fake and not affiliated with the UAE. The UAE denied the conditions.

Aviation analyst and Director of Research, Zenith Travels, Mr. Olumide Ohunayo said while the visa application has resumed,the UAE authority still placed restrictions on some applicants. He said the government can still intercede to expand the visa offering or reciprocate by restricting Nigerian visa to some UAE applicants.
