Journey to the Edge of the Universe enacts a virtual non-stop odyssey from the Earth to the very edges of the observable universe. Shot using cutting edge CGI technology, the documentary seeks to offer a seamless spectacle of what it would be like to travel through the vast immensity of space and time that makes up the universe.

The makers of Journey to the Edge of the Universe have built upon the spectacular and awe-inspiring images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, adding action and detail for a wholesome illustration of the workings and mysteries of the universe. The most compelling of the views is perhaps the picture of the Earth viewed not too far from the edges of the solar system where the blue planet is no more significant than a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The epic trip to the edge of the cosmos begins in the local neighborhood of the solar system. It explores each planet in turn beginning with the rocky contemporaries of the Earth and on to the imposing gas giants further out in the sun’s sphere of influence. From then on the documentary takes on a whirlwind of spectacles from nearby stars to nebulae, galaxies and black holes, pulsars and quasars. Admittedly, it is impossible to depict the overarching immensity of the universe and everything in it (including time) on the finite screen of a television set. However, this documentary makes a very laudable case of being the most visual and uncanny attempt at doing just that.

• Calling another star system doesn't sit well with me.
• Having an asteroid falling down a black hole (Into the event horizon..) is probably wrong. Unless the black hole is really huge
• An animation showing Io being flexed by Jupiter's gravity would have been nice
• Having a warp meter at the bottom of the screen would have been fantastic, adding a small projection of the path being traveled over the solar system/galaxy would have been nice.
• About the voyager "If you are in the jungle, is it wise to call out..", is plain wrong. A civilization finding the voyager will probably have located us using the radio spectrum. After the 70th minute, i stopped watching. I would have loved it my teens..

Journey to the edge of the universe blu-ray review, a fantastic documentary burdened with a lackluster av presentation....

I didn't expect to be so enamored by Journey to the Edge of the Universe . To my relief, what could have easily been a plodding, planet-hopping lecture turned out to be a captivating jaunt to indescribable realms that defy the imagination. Baldwin isn't just a tour guide, but a passionate participant who sells every line of writer Nigel Henbest's script and seems as invested in the project as the filmmakers themselves. Moreover, the film's jaw-dropping imagery is revealing and its presentation is thoroughly inventive. Director Yavar Abbas treats the entire production as if it's a big budget Hollywood blockbuster, jarring the virtual camera to immerse viewers in the volatility of an ever-changing spacescape, diving beneath cloud cover and through solar flares to explore unseen aspects of distant planets and stars, and hurtling great distances with daunting speed.

Journey to the Edge of the Universe not only serves up more bizarre eye-candy than the most outlandish episodes of Star Trek , it engages the mind more rapidly than any other space faring documentary I've seen. In fact, my only complaint with the film is that it doesn't explore each locale enough . I felt a palpable jab of disappointment every time the camera would prematurely rip away from a particularly fascinating subject to hone in on its next target. Even though a ninety-minute production could never hope to cover enough ground to satisfy the cranial cravings of an enthusiast like myself, I would have gladly sat through hours upon hours of additional material if it were all as mesmerizing as this morsel.

Good Movie But No Hope

Very well done but it does leave you with a sense of humans leading a pointless life and no hope of an afterlife. The movie does point out that "creation" happened and there is no explanation as to why and when. If we are truly leading pointless lives, then what is the point of the afterlife when there is no hope? 95% of the Earth population believes in a Creator God and over a billion people hang their eternal hope on the salvation given by Jesus Christ...it's clear this movie does not.

The Best Alternate-Reality Spider-Man Comics

M arvel's main universe (dubbed Earth-616) is filled with incredible comics, and the Peter Parker of the main Marvel universe has starred in iconic Amazing Spider-Man stories from "Spider-Man No More" to "Spider-Island." However, beyond the walls of Earth-616, plenty of Spider-Man comics set in alternate worlds earned praise.

Miles Morales and a younger Peter Parker shined in the Ultimate Universe, Peter and MJ are married with a child on an alternate Earth, while Gwen Stacy donned her mask as Spider-Woman on Earth-65. The Marvel multiverse is vast, holding an equally large library of fantastic comics centered on Spider-Man variants who have nothing to do with the 616 Spider-Man.

Gwen Stacy Steals the Show as Spider-Woman

Spider-Gwen originally appeared in Edge of Spider-Verse #2 and starred in her own comic title less than a year afterward. No one could have predicted Spider-Gwen's meteoric rise in popularity. Marvel Age Retells Classic Spider-Man Comics

Many Spider-Man books that take place in alternate realities really use the multiverse concept to its fullest, crafting Spider-Men and Women in the past like 1602 or the future like Spider-Man 2099 . Marvel Age Spider-Man may be the subtlest "alternate" Spider-Man comic ever.

Marvel Age Spider-Man simply retold the original 20 issues of Amazing Spider-Man , updating stories told in the mid-1960s to better appeal to modern readers in 2005. With newer art and updated technology/character designs, Marvel Age is a unique way to experience Spider-Man's earliest adventures.

1930s Spider-Man Gets Dark & Gritty

Movie audiences may be familiar with Spider-Man Noir thanks to Into the Spider-Verse and gamers certainly know him thanks to his iconic levels in Shattered Dimensions . Before those mainstream appearances, the Spider-Man of 1930s New York debuted in the four-part miniseries, Spider-Man: Noir .

Spider-Man Noir is a stark contrast to the colorful, cheerful Amazing Spider-Man. This Peter Parker wears bulletproof equipment and frequently carries a pistol. Other characters like Norman Osborn and the Vulture received similar, stylish, era-accurate makeovers.

Mary Jane Watson Takes Center Stage

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane reads more like a romantic-comedy manga than a superhero comic, but that's what sets it apart from any mainstream Spider-Man book. Mary Jane is the star of the series as she navigates the highs and lows of high school in a world dominated by Spider-Man and his supervillains.

Two other series, Mary Jane and Mary Jane: Homecoming exist in the same universe. The final series ended in 2009, but Marvel should consider more comics like Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane to give supporting characters a stage to shine on, especially in the cute, colorful styles seen in this one.

New Spider-People Enter the Spider-Verse

Marvel originally conceptualized the first Edge of Spider-Verse volume as a companion to the main Spider-Verse comic arc. The first volume reintroduced Spider-Man Noir while also gifting the world Spider-Gwen.

The three volumes that followed (volume four is currently ongoing) similarly connected to other Spider-Verse events while debuting new, interesting and sometimes ridiculous alternate Spider-Men and Women. Fans of multiversal concepts who aren't interested in longer narratives will love the one-off stories in Edge of Spider-Verse comics.

Peter Parker Ages Naturally In Spider-Man: Life Story

The Amazing Spider-Man comics (and all of Marvel Comics) use a sliding timeline, which means the characters rarely age, making the passage of time difficult to decipher. Spider-Man: Life Story retold Peter Parker's life using a realistic timescale. Peter and his supporting cast aged normally, experiencing real-world events through the Marvel lens.

Life Story is one of the most fascinating comics outside the 616 and Marvel should absolutely apply this format to all of their top characters. Peter's journey in Life Story may be condensed, but powerful moments like the Civil War and Alien Costume saga hit harder due to Peter's age and natural development through the unseen years.

Miles Morales Takes Over Ultimate Spider-Man

Peter parker and miles morales are the spectacular spider-men in marvel's new comics this week.

The Ultimate version of Peter Parker was incredibly popular with fans, and many readers were sad to see him go, but Marvel surprised everyone with the introduction of Miles Morales. Miles is no Spider-Boy but shares the Spider-Man mantle alongside the 616 Peter Parker.

While Miles Morales debuted at the end of Peter's run in Ultimate Spider-Man , the young hero shined in his first solo comic series, Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man . Anyone who fell in love with Miles thanks to Into the Spider-Verse or Marvel's Spider-Man 2 game should definitely check out his first comic run.

May Parker Swings as Spider-Girl in the MC2 Universe

Marvel had briefly dabbled in alternate realities, but the multiversal concept was more popular at DC Comics. With the debut of Amazing Spider-Girl , readers surprised Marvel with how quickly they fell in love with May Parker, Peter and MJ's daughter from the MC2 universe.
