See some of the Jurassic Coast’s most stunning coastline by paddling along in our very stable sit-on-top tandem kayaks. Starting in the relative shelter of Lulworth Cove, participants get a fantastic chance to get to grips with their boats before venturing out into open water if the weather allows. These memorable activities are great for team bonding, learning new skills, seeing the incredible coastline from a different perspective and most of all, having fun along the way.

Suitable for:  school groups, youth groups, home schooled students. Please enquire if you have a large group booking.

Timings: 3 hours from arrival to departure (kitting up/down and safety briefings)

Kayak the Jurassic Coast

Search for dolphins and discover secret beaches, on Dorset's spectacular Jurassic Coast!

Drive direct to Purbeck Valley Farm Campsite or we can pick you up for free at Wareham Train Station. Once everyone has arrived, you'll enjoy a picnic lunch (provided) and then we'll start getting kitted up, ready for your first journey. The first day is all about learning the basic key skills for sea kayaking in tandem Kayaks - with a short journey on the first stretch of the Jurassic Coast. We'll shuttle you back to your campsite in late afternoon for hot showers. You're then free to explore the local area at your leisure (Corfe village and Swanage) and it's up to you to find a spot that takes your fancy for dinner (not included).

After a hot breakfast at a cosy local cafe (included), we'll hit the water to explore some of the most iconic sections of the Dorset coastline - passing Chapmans Pool, Kimmeridge Bay, Worbarrow Bay or Old Harry Rocks. Through the course of the day, we'll travel around 8km, with plenty of breaks. The day includes a tasty picnic lunch (included) with a beautiful ocean view. You'll be picked up early evening and driven back to the campsite, where you can grab a hot shower and head out for dinner (not included). Your host can prepare a campfire for your group - just ask!

After a hearty breakfast at The Salt Pig Cafe in Swanage (included), we'll head out to complete our third section of the Jurassic Coast. First, we paddle to Studland Bay and Swanage Bay, stopping off at a fantastic secret beach for snacks. Afterwards, we'll continue to Durlston Point, searching for dolphins along the way. In total we'll travel around 8km today, at a relaxed pace with plenty of breaks. In the early afternoon, you'll get picked up and have lunch back at the campsite before collecting your things and departing. Free shuttle to Wareham train station provided on request.

A fantastic trip. The kayaking was great fun. Hard work at times due to the weather but super friendly and experienced guides looked after us really well. The breakfasts and lunches provided were excellent. I'm looking forward to my next Dkyhook adventure

Overall, I enjoyed this trip. Didn't get off to the best start with the campsite move and lack of clarity with plans and a lot of waiting around ; but a big thank you to Angela for her thoughtfulness and efforts to sort things out. Saturday and Sunday were better. Matt and Tobias were great leaders those days, and looked after the group really well. We had some changes of plans due to the sea conditions but everyone made the best of it. The location is stunning, the views when kayaking were amazing and it was - overall - good fun.

Great trip, really enjoyed kayaking to the old Harry Rocks and off Swanage Bay. Our guides Matt and Tobias were very organised, friendly and made our trip so memorable! 😎 Also enjoyed the first day with Andy and Melvin in Poole Bay.

Absolutely loved this trip, saw so much of the Jurassic coast, got lots of pictures and the odd history lesson. Very experienced guides and the food was delicious. Even got a chance to see Swanage in our spare time. Big thanks to the lady who helped me find the camp site when I got lost. 😄

What do I need to bring?

- A warm sleeping bag and pillow - Swimwear to wear under a wetsuit - Old trainers or wet shoes to wear in the water - A rash vest to wear with a wetsuit (not essential) - A fleece and warm layers for the evenings - Sun cream, a sun hat, a small rucksack and a large water bottle - Additional snacks to keep energy levels up

On your trip

What experience do i need.

No experience is needed for Kayaking. You'll be paddling sit-on-top kayaks that are really stable and fantastic for beginners. At all times you'll be guided by a professional, qualified instructor. You will, however, need to have a base level of fitness and be able to confidently swim up at least 25m .

What facilities are at the campsite?

The rural campsite has hot showers and toilets. The pop-up campsite is on a working dairy farm in the countryside, with beautiful views and surroundings. There is no campsite shop. Wifi connection is not available, but there is good mobile signal.

What can I expect from the food?

Breakfast - we drive you and your fellow paddlers to a wonderful local cafe in Swanage called the Salt Pig Too. Breakfast choices include: locally-reared bacon or sausage ciabbata bap or scrambled eggs on toast PLUS Freshly Baked Croissant, selection of cereal, fruit juice and hot drink of your choice. You're welcome to order additional items, but you will need to cover the cost. Your packed lunch includes: The Salt Pig Sausage Roll/Quiche, Pipers Crisps, homemade fruity & nutty Flapjack, nutty hazelnut brownie and fruit. Dinner is not included. There are lots of options in Corfe village or Swanage town.

What can I expect from the campsite?

Our campsite is located on a working farm in between Corfe Village and Swanage. The camping field is set up with pre-pitched bell tents ready for your arrival. It's a comfy, spacious place to rest your head at the end of a busy day paddling. The views over Corfe Castle are gorgeous. There are two single beds in each tent. We provide a proper bed and mattress with a sheet - you just need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow. We are not a 5* luxury glamping resort, but we will certainly make you feel very comfortable and relaxed in a beautiful rural setting! If you are a group of three people, the host can arrange for an extra bed to be put in the tent. Your tents will be grouped together with your fellow paddlers. There is also a larger shared social tent (with tea and coffee-making facilities) for socialising in the evening with other guests. Usually, we prepare a campfire for the group (just ask your host) and you can sit back and enjoy one of Dorset's famous sunsets. During the summer the campsite is also open to other guests.

Can the itinerary change in bad weather?

The Dorset coast is well-protected and typically calm during the summer months. Most trips can run as planned, but sometimes the weather does force us to take alternative routes and your safety is always the first priority in making these decisions. Very occasionally, there can be severe weather that forces us to cancel the trip - in this case, we will give you as much notice as possible, and you will be offered a free date change.

Where do we get drinking water from?

There are plenty of stops along the way to fill up your water bottles. The lead guide will also provide water throughout the trip. Please bring a large water bottle. Drinking water taps are at the campsite.

Where does the trip start/end, and at what time?

Start: Your guide will collect you from Wareham train station from 10:30 AM, or you can meet the team at the campsite (Purbeck Valley Farm, BH20 5HU) at 11:00 AM/ 11:30 AM. End: Your guide will drop you off at Wareham train station at around 4:00 PM. There are trains to Waterloo every hour.

I'm a solo traveller, will I share a tent?

Solo travellers can either share with another solo or choose to have their own tent, at no extra charge.

What's the minimum age for this trip?

The minimum age is 18 years.

How far do we kayak each day?

You can expect to kayak around 8km/ 5 miles each day.

Do you cater for vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary requirements?

The company we use for catering (The Salt Pig Too) can usually cater for most dietary requirement, provided they are given sufficient notice. Be sure to indicate any diet restrictions on your trip form. If you have any concerns/ your needs are very specific, feel free to contact The Salt Pig Too (thesaltpig.co.uk/the-salt-pig-swanage/) directly with your enquiry.

Can I use a single kayak instead?

Unfortunately, we only offer tandem kayaks, this is a great way to get to know your fellow paddlers. Plus, it's double the 'engine' power compared to a single person!

Day 1: Jurassic Coast Adventure and Kayak Thrills

• Morning : Hike the Jurassic Coast. Kick off the day with an early morning hike along a scenic stretch of the Jurassic Coast. This guided walk will explore the area’s stunning cliffs, hidden coves, and the fossil-rich beaches, providing a captivating start to your adventure.
• Lunch: Corfe Castle. After the hike, enjoy a well-deserved lunch in Corfe Castle. This picturesque village offers a variety of dining options where you can sample local Dorset specialties in a charming setting.
• Afternoon: Kayaking. Post-lunch, venture to the Jurassic Coast were we embark on a Kayak adventure. This activity not only provides a fun way to unwind but also offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes and wildlife.

Old Harry Rocks Kayak Tours are exactly what they sound like! We will jump on the water and head off towards Old Harry in the distance. Along the way, our Instructors and Guides will deliver small bits of helpful hints and pro tips! We will land on the rocks and have an exploration, take some of those truly unique Instagram photos and look over the view of both Studland bay and the white cliffs of Swanage! Explore some sea arches, gaze up at awesome sea stacks, what's not to love!

Open sessions have always been the core of our activities at Jurassic Watersports. Quite simply, we offer a session date with 10 spaces, you book 2, another couple books 2 and a family books 4. We then bring the 8 of you together to create a group to take part in your session together. These kinds of sessions are great when booking for 1 - 4 people as paying out for a private session as such a small group works out costly! In recent years, most providers have dialled back these kinds of sessions, if not stopped offering them all together! At Jurassic Watersports, we are committed to continuing to offer these ‘Open’ style sessions, helping more of you get out and enjoy the adventure activities we have on offer in Dorset, without costing an arm! Our Private sessions offer greater flexibility over available dates, so if you are struggling to find a date that works, take a look at them as an option!

Kayak Taster Sessions

Our Kayak Taster Sessions are focused more on getting a feel for Kayaking, then seeing the sights. We will take some time to get familiar with the boats and practise some basic paddling skills, before heading off on a small trip with the backdrop of Old Harry. Private Taster sessions can be tailored to suit you and your groups, they can be focused on learning basic skills and taking a small trip, or they can be a complete free-for-all of games, activities and getting wet!

We went kayaking with a fella named Chris. He was awesome and a great tour guide. Very patient with us and gave us plenty of photo opps (gotta do it for the gram y’all) but really let us appreciate the view. If you’re looking for a great place to kayak and want a fab tour guide who is patient but also a great instructor we’d def recommend him and will be coming back.

Big thank you to Kelvin for our kayaking lesson last week. Whilst the session was great fun (yes even the indelicate attempts practising getting back on our kayaks in deep water), Kelvin was really knowledgeable regarding safety and gave us a lot of tips and practical guidance to help keep us safe on the water. Looking forward to another session soon.

All our Paddlesport now takes place at Knoll Beach in Studland. On site the National Trust have Toilets and a Caffe. We recomend arriving ready to go out on the water as it is a bit of a time consuming walk to head over to the toilets to change!

A pair of shoes to wear in the water, and wear something you don't mind getting wet....we don't plan on getting "that" wet....but its best to be prepared!

We suggest you also bring a towel and water bottle, you may also wish to bring a waterproof/windproof to take with you on the water.

Contact lenses - If you can get away with not wearing them, that’s best. If you do need them to see, be sure to have a spare pair to put in after your session.

You do not require any experience for any of our Taster sessions,.

For any of our 3 hour+ trips we do suggest you have some experience of Kayaking. If you've never been Kayaking before, take a look at our  Taster Sessions  first.

The online system will send out an automatic confirmation with instructions on what you need to do. If you can’t find the confirmation email, please do check your spam/junk folder as we do some times end up in there! If you still can see anything, please email us at  [email protected]   and we will endeavour to re send.

We are open 7 days a week, if there is no time slot available that suits you, contact us at  [email protected] and we will see if we can accommodate.

Taster Session times are:

09:30 - 11:00, 11:30 - 13:00, 13:30 - 15:00, 15:30 - 17:00

Jurassic Coast & Old Harry Rocks Trip times are:

09:30 - 11:30 & 13:30 - 15:30

(11:30 - 13:30 available for Private sessions on request)

There are no strict minimum or maximum number rules, however we not be able to run sessions that are not cost effective. Group sizes can vary, but are no more then 10.

Want a smaller group? Why not book a private session?

You're already getting wet right? What's a bit of rain between Adventures? We try our best not to cancel any sessions but sometimes the great British weather has other ideas! If a session is cancelled by us we will look at rescheduling you in when convenient for you.

Kayaking is a very physically demanding Adventurous Activity. For our open sessions we ask all participants are over the age of 14.

We are however able to offer sessions for participants between the ages of 8 - 14. If you would like to book for child aged between 8 - 14, please get I touch with us and we will see what we can arrange!

We are licenced by the HSE (AALA) to work with under 18s.
