The Truth About The TikTok Account Claiming To Be From 2027

Big Ben spinning

In February 2021, the human race — already shaken by global catastrophes, political turmoil, and the arrival of a  Pentagon UFO report that could blow the lid right off everything we thought we believed — received an unexpected visitation that set the whole internet alight. Well, that set TikTok alight. Or part of it, at least.

On the 13th of the winter month, a user by the name of @unicosobreviviente — which is Spanish for "lone survivor" — posted a video of deserted streets and stores in Valencia, Spain, and claimed that there was no sign of human life anywhere. "I just woke up in a hospital, and I don't know what might have happened. Today is February 13, 2027, and I am alone in the city," the user, who gives his name only as Javier, wrote in his first post.

Many were intrigued, if not convinced, by Javier's footage. Certainly, the otherwise bustling city of Valencia seemed entirely lifeless, and as Javier posted more videos, it seemed less and less likely that the user had just managed to fluke a few minutes of footage of unpopulated streets one especially quiet morning. And the videos keep coming. What exactly is going on?

Javier, TikTok's 'lone survivor'

As Javier's posts continued throughout 2021, his world became more clear. "I woke up alone in a hospital in Valencia (Spain). I couldn't remember my name or where I lived. I decided to go outside and there were no people. Everything was like in 2021, but the electronic devices showed 2027. I discovered that there was a connection between 2021 and 2027. People in 2021 could see the objects I left in the city, but people couldn't see me and I couldn't see them. And a few days ago I found a letter telling me that I am the JESP8827 experiment," he wrote in one post titled " MY STORY ."

Sure, some users were, of course, joylessly skeptical. Why were there human footprints on the beach, for instance? How come there was no dust when Javier explored abandoned apartments? How was his Wi-Fi working? Why was everything so tidy ? Others, however, wondered how Javier — look, spoiler alert ,  he's not a time traveler from 2027, OK? — managed to get such uncanny footage of deserted Spanish landmarks day after day, month after month.

Javier's account now boasts over 6 million followers, and the user regularly engages with his fanbase by encouraging them to post questions and requests and to find the treasure that he sends back to 2021 from his abandoned future world. So whatever "JESP8827" turns out to be, Javier has promoted it exceptionally well.

Are TikTok 'time travellers' ahead of the curve? Behind the viral trend taking over the platform

Are TikTok 'time travellers' ahead of the curve? Behind the viral trend taking over the platform

Time famously waits for no man, but what if it did?

Time travel has fascinated humans for millennia, and until this point it’s been the stuff of science fiction and hypothetical debate.

It’s a fascinating and often confusing subject (as anyone who has watched and tried to understand the mind-bogglingly complicated movie Primer will tell you), and the concept has found a new lease of life on social media over recent years.

You may or may not have noticed that there’s a growing number of people on TikTok who are trying to convince us all that time travel is a very real thing indeed.

Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter

If you’ve managed to miss it, there have been more and more accounts popping up all over the platform which claim to have been posted from genuine time travellers.

A TikTok user going by @timetraveller_2082 , who as the username suggests, claims to be from the year 2082, has captivated millions by making ominous predictions online.

@shovelcarrot BE WARNED #timetravel #lookout #fyp #LiveForTheChallenge #foryou #queen

As well as attempting to predict the death of the Queen last year and also stating that Tottenham Hotspur are going to win a trophy over the next few years (surely a sign they’re talking nonsense), they post many messages claiming to be from the future.

Another person claiming to have the ability to travel through time is @timevoyaging , who has taken more of an apocalyptic approach. They claim we’re all only a year away from coming up against a hugely destructive species known as ‘Azawa’ who live underground and end up destroying humanity as we know it. Scary stuff indeed.

Obviously, it's utter nonsense. They’re all total lies of course, but the users are just two of many who have racked up millions tof views with the outlandish claims – but why are there so many people claiming to be from the future?

The @timevoyaging account alone has managed 353.4K followers and 2.8million likes, with videos that have racked up more than eight million views each. TikToker user @unicosobreviviente , who claims he’s from the year 2027 and he’s been warning people that human extinction is very close indeed – filming their solo adventures as a “ time traveller ”, filming abandoned places, buildings and cars all around Spain , has a whopping 7.6M followers and has managed 50.7million likes.

@unicosobreviviente Respuesta a @saul_rmorales #Zaragoza

Something is obviously working for them on the platform, and Jamie Love, a social media expert and CEO of Monumental Marketing , believes there’s a fundamentally human explanation as to why.

“It’s the same reason people love crime stories, unsolved mysteries or conspiracy theories,” Love says, contemplating their appeal. “Psychologists believe that this is because of our human need for knowledge and certainty and the basic desire to have information, to know the most.

“Secondly, humans love to feel they have some kind of power over things that happen in the world, believing these time travellers make people feel like they have control and knowledge of their future. Regardless of how reputable the information is or how many more reputable sources may refute the theory. Finally, believing in these viral theories makes people feel like they’re part of a group and as humans, we like to feel ‘part of something’ that shares the same beliefs.”

Despite their popularity, the ‘time travellers’ themselves are nearly always anonymous and go by coded usernames – something Love believes is pretty crucial to the mystique of the viral accounts.

@timevoyaging Visit TikTok to discover videos!

“Knowing who is behind it would most likely lose its credibility so keeping it anonymous allows people to fill in the gaps of the story as they see fit,” he says. “I guess followers like the thought that this time traveller might be someone they know who’s keeping this secret. The likelihood however of it being a bored 17-year-old is high!”

Whoever is behind each of the accounts, they have helped to spearhead a trend online – and TikTok is the perfect place for ‘time travellers’ to rise to prominence.

“TikTok is a great platform for this sort of content to spiral. Its algorithm is designed based on interest, not relationships. Simply put, on Facebook you’ll see only your friends’ posts and activity regardless of your interest in the subject. TikTok is designed to feed you content you’re interested in,” Love goes on to say.

“For it to understand this it will test different topics and based on how long you watch a video, whether you like it, share it or save it and from it determine your interest in that topic. You may see a funny time traveller video and engage with it and so it will serve you more and more content gradually about that topic. If the topic is captivating enough a trend will start and others will start tapping into it increasing the volume of the topic.”

The trend is here to stay, and if the virality continues, the accounts can be “monetised with some selling ebooks or allowing brands to advertise on their accounts”.

The possibilities in the future really are endless – but then again, they knew that already.

Naked swimmer trapped in drain for weeks

Rescuers pulled a naked woman out of a storm drain after she had been missing for three weeks. She told investigators that she became trapped as she explored a tunnel she found while swimming in a canal. “The idea that somebody might be down there for any length of time is disturbing,” said one of the rescuers. “It’s dirty, dangerous, there’s snakes, rats, garbage, dirt and leaves.”

A time traveler who is alone in the world is currently creating waves of interest on TikTok . The platform was already home to many interesting channels, but the lone survivor’s videos are quickly going viral and generating millions of views in the process . Here’s what you need to know about TikTok’s time traveler.

In spite of being much newer than many other social media platforms, TikTok has quickly established itself as one of the most important. With a user base that just continues to grow and an algorithm capable of delivering highly relevant videos, TikTok is becoming the go-to option for many on the internet. It also helps that TikTok covers a wide range of topics and genres, including time travel.

The @unicosobreviviente channel on TikTok has recently gone viral. The TikTok “ unico sobreviviente ” handle is Spanish for “ lone survivor ” and the creator, who identifies simply as Javier , appears to be posting from the future. Since the channel went live, it has attracted almost three million followers and more than 16 million likes. This is in spite of all of the videos being the same and simply showing Javier walking around. The difference is, wherever Javier goes, there is no one to be found. Everyone has simply disappeared, with the suggestion that the population has since gone extinct. The year is 2027.

Is Lone Survivor A Time Traveler?

In a “ My Story ” video , Javier explains how after waking up in a hospital, everyone else in the world had simply gone. Since then, Javier has continued to search for people and is documenting the journey on a regular basis through videos uploaded to TikTok . Javier assumed it was still the year 2021 when awaking in hospital, but that was until observing that all the electronic devices stated the year was actually 2027. However, the lone survivor doesn’t actually claim to be a time traveler. Instead, Javier claims to be in a parallel world. One that runs alongside this one, albeit six years in the future and one without people or animals. In this sense, Javier does not appear to be someone traveling through time, but more of a case of someone who is communicating across worlds that are slightly out of linear synchronization. A world that TikTok seems to transcend.

As unusual as it might sound for a time traveler to use TikTok to communicate with others , it is not totally uncommon. For example, there’s also @timetraveler2582 which, as the handle suggests, is the account of a time traveler from the year 2582. Unlike Javier, Timetraveler2582 and many of the other TikTok time travelers tend to be more interested in warning users from the past by providing predictions on the future. However, the lack of predictions from Javier, coupled with the general lack of people, arguably make this TikTok time traveler’s videos all the more intriguing and creepy.

Internet Culture

Posted on Mar 24, 2021     Updated on Mar 24, 2021, 1:51 pm CDT

Last summer, there were a lot of alleged time travelers on TikTok: 2028man, who claimed he was from 2028, predicted Joe Biden would win the presidency and eventually deleted his account. A man who goes by 2029man is still offering pop-culture predictions on his account. Now a man who goes by Javier has upped the stakes: He claims he is the only person alive in 2027. (Well, in his city.)

The first post from TikTok account unicosobreviviente, which translates to “only survivor,” is from Feb.13. Javier claims he woke up alone at a hospital in Valencia, Spain, but in the year 2027.

@unicosobreviviente Acabo de despertar en un hospital y no sé qué ha podido pasar. Hoy es 13 de febrero de 2027 y estoy solo en la ciudad. ♬ Creepy, scary, horror, synth, tension – Sound Production Gin

His subsequent videos show empty streets, train terminals, and businesses, though the power still appears to be on in several videos, and he obviously has some sort of internet access. One TikTok shows his reflection in a restaurant door. He also revealed that there were four keychains hidden around the city, with coordinates, that might offer a “connection” between 2021 and 2027.

While engaging, some carefully composed shots suggest this might be an inventive spin on TikTok’s POV trend—or for some bigger project. It’s likely these videos were taken at some point during Spain’s lockdown, hence the empty streets. More recently, Javier answered a commenter question about how he has electricity and internet: He’s not sure, he says, but again claims some sort of connection to 2021.

We’ve reached out for comment.

'Time traveller' who claims he's 'stuck in 2027' drives Lamborghini down empty street

A man who claims to be a "time traveller stuck in 2027" has shocked social media users by driving a Lamborghini down an empty street in this Viral TikTok video .

Javier first became popular in 2021 when he claimed that he had been transported six years into the future and was the only person left in the world. He has been posting videos of himself walking around capital cities as supposed proof of his lonely existence.

He has often been seen walking around tourist spots like the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, or even seemingly deserted airports like one in Marrakesh. Now, he's chosen to provide evidence in a different way. In some of his recent videos , he can be seen driving a luxury car through quiet streets.

One of these videos , which has received over 11,000 likes, was posted in response to a troll who said: "It doesn't show the driver speeding up." The man was then seen driving it around with a camera looking over his shoulder to show the road in front of him.

If you can't see the video below, click here .

It seemed to be an empty street with just parked cars at the side of the road and no pedestrians on the path or cars moving in front of him. However, TikTok users are still split over whether these videos prove the man is who he claims to be.

One of the viewers asked: "How many days have you been stuck there?". Another suggested: "If you are just there, go to a supermarket and get things for free."

A third person wondered: "But how can I get stuck in 2027, so why does it say the video was uploaded in 2024?". Meanwhile, someone else pointed out: "Someone is recording it."

Javier decided to test his situation by visiting the Emirates Stadium and Stamford Bridge to show he is "alone in 2027". He recorded videos on TikTok, showing him walking around Arsenal and Chelsea football clubs' grounds.

In one popular video with over 2,400 likes, Javier is seen standing alone outside the Emirates Stadium next to a mural of the football players. In another video, hes shown inside the dressing rooms where the shirts are hung up on the wall, all by himself.

He even gets into the Diamond Club, moves past the press conference area and enjoys the view of the pitch all to himself.

'My name is Javier and I am alone in the world,' the user wrote on their Instagram bio.

Time travel, as we have seen it in films and television shows, is a fascinating dream for humanity. This is why when a TikTok user claimed to be a time-traveller, the videos went viral and the person received a plethora of questions in the comments. In a 21-second-long video that TikTok user unicosobreviviente posted on Monday, a downwards view , presumably from a rooftop, can be seen. There are big buildings and an empty crossroad and some cars parked on the road, but there are no humans. Yes, there is a bird flying at the beginning of the video. “My name is Javier and I am alone in the world,” the TikTok user writes in the bio. There is an Instagram account by the same username, which posts the same videos as on TikTok. “I have travelled in time since 2027 and I am alone in the world.” Reacting to the video, which has garnered over 2.2 million views on TikTok, another social media user pointed out that these were actually videos from the lockdown. “It’s obviously a video from back in lockdown when no one went out,” read the comment.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Único sobreviviente (@unicosobreviviente)

Another user said, “If you are the last human on earth then how are the traffic lights still on? How is there still electricity?”

Another user challenged Javier to do a live stream from a usually crowded location. In reply to the comments, Javier wrote, “When you wake up, everything changes place. I am trapped between 2021 and 2027. I am in a world parallel to yours.”

Someone on social media claiming to be a time traveller and predicting events yet to happen is not so rare. According to Ladbible, another TikTok user,@aesthetictimewarper, who claimed to be a time traveller, made several bold predictions asking people to be prepared for several dates. For example, the user claimed that NASA would find a mirrored earth on August 3, 2021. The prediction turned out to be false as NASA made no such discovery.

‘Time traveller from 2027’ posts videos ‘proving’ he is ‘last person on Earth’ after TikTokers accuse him of being fake

A "TIME TRAVELLER" who claims he is in the year 2027 has posted a series of videos to prove he is "the last person on Earth" after his followers on TikTok accused him of being a fake.

Javier, who goes by the name @unicosobreviviente [only survivor] has been sharing bizarre clips of deserted streets in Spain, including one of a secret passageway in an abandoned city.

'If you make the same video in the day I will believe you' a TikToker said

The Tiktoker says he is the only survivor on Earth after a mass extinction but some of his over six million followers are doubting his claims and have branded him fake.

Over the weekend one of his followers challenged him to film a video with a view of Barcelona, from the last floor of the hotel the TikToker is staying.

Javier did so but then was challenged by another follower to film the same clip during the day: "If you make the same video but during the day, I'll believe you for real".

Another TikToker commented: "Look closely at the dark spots in the intersection you can see some movements. Looks like something was edited out."

"Your hands are different on each video," someone else said.

And in a bid to prove he is telling the truth Javier posted the same video in the daylight.

The short clips filmed from above starts with a view of an empty crossroad in the city- parked cars can be seen but no traffic or people are around.

He then lifts the camera and shows a view of the city under a cloudy sky.

"Waking up, everything changes place" Javier said.

"I am trapped between 2021 and 2027. I am in a world parallel to yours.

Last week Javier decided to film a short video of himself for his non-believing followers.

The Tiktoker, dressed in a black hooded jacket and trainers holds his phone in front of his face to hide his identity and slowly zooms in.

But many of his followers are still not convinced and continue to suggest new challenges.

Someone said: "How can you send a TikTok from the future to the past using internet from there, is the frequency of the wave go (sic) between time and space and dimension?"

"I dare you to go to Egypt at the pyramids," someone else commented.

One said: "Wow he owns an Iphone 11 Pro in 2027."

Another user added: "He hide his face because he knows that will be the end of everything."

Couple claiming to be Time Travellers from 2027 share footage 'proving they're all alone'

Couple claiming to be Time Travellers from 2027 share footage 'proving they're all alone'

The couple say they're living in 2027 and have the footage to prove it..

Gregory Robinson

A couple has shocked the internet by claiming that they're living in the future and they have the footage to 'prove' it. Watch the weird video below:

TikTokers Javier and Maria claim to be stuck alone in the future but, thankfully, they have each other for company.

Maria, who claims to be a scientist, posts videos from the 'future' on TikTok using the handle @socmia.

"Time is an illusion," her bio states. "Alone in the world with unicosobreviviente ."

Apparently, the mysterious duo - who never share face pictures - are in 2027 and judging by their accounts, things aren't looking too good.

Javier and Maria are alone and their bizarre videos are 'evidence' that there are no humans left on Earth, at least according to them.

They appear to be in deserted areas with no signs of other people or life.

Viewers have identified the city their in as Valencia in Spain.

In one clip, Maria introduces herself and explains how she knows Javier.

“Hello, I am Maria. I am part of the same project as Javier (who you know as unicosobreviviente).

“I appear here because I am still processing everything I have lived and I am trying to find a solution.

“I still have a lot to understand but I have decided to change the current situation.”

Maria claims to be a Nuclear scientist.

In another video, she shares: “I am a scientist, my strong point is nuclear physics.

“I know Javier and his experiment since the beginning even though he didn’t know it at the time.

“And now finally I’m here to help him.”

The couple's story has intrigued TikTok followers and when she was asked how she knows Javier, she simply replied with a clip of him sleeping with her lying next to him.

Javier posts on TikTok under the name @unicosobreviviente, translates as ‘only survivor’, and he has over seven million followers.

The alleged time travellers are slone in Spain.

He first posted about his supposed life in the future in February 2021, recording Valencia when it appeared to be completely empty.

Since then, he claims to have visited a number of usually heaving cities including Barcelona, Madrid and Seville, showing them without signs of life. Last year he was in 2028 , apparently, so how he found Maria in 2027 remains a mystery.

In January 2022, Javier said he was still alone – having spent the past 340 days stranded, 'trying to find human life’ amid claims from other TikTokers that his clips from the future are fake.

Mysterious meadow passage with group of people. This is entirely 3D generated image.

As if the past two years haven't been frightening enough, a TikTok time traveler has emerged to put a whole new twist on doom scrolling.

While most of us are searching our FYP for helpful TikTok beauty hacks or popular TikTok exercise tips, user @unicosobreviviente is graciously providing us a glimpse into the future...and it's quite bleak, to say the least.

The TikToker allegedly named Javier, who claims he is from 2027, is showing his nearly seven million followers an empty world. From stadiums to city streets, Javier's videos capture a completely deserted universe.

Although there is no evidence as to what happened to mankind or why @unicosobreviviente ("lone survivor") has been the lucky chosen one, the content is certainly eerie. How could things get this bad only six—almost five—years into the future? If Javier is telling us the truth, we'll take those relaxation techniques now!

The TikTok time traveler's videos

Take a look at some of the footage: city streets are empty. Hotel rooms are untouched. City skylines look frozen in time. Clearly a master videographer, Javier knows how to make this "empty" planet look pretty frightening.

While some TikTokers can't figure out Javier's tricks, others are offering up solutions to his shenanigans. People are taking to the comments section of each video to ask questions about the particular situation he's captured. Perhaps the most frequently asked question "Why not livestream?" is the most telling of them all!

The TikTok time traveler's slip ups

Notice Javier taking a sip of beer on an empty rooftop bar? Spookyyy ! Isn't it kind of odd that the restaurant's scanning code—a germ-free way to peruse the menu in the time of COVID—is still fastened to the table?

Don't you find it kind of strange that there is still electricity in these public transportation stations? Although, I am willing to bet that when the world population mysteriously vanishes, somehow the F train in New York City will still be delayed.

Care to read us an expiration date on one of those bottles, Javier? Let us see 'em.

Since transportation might not necessarily be the easiest thing in the world once the entire population is gone, how exactly is Javier getting to all of these locations? He must have a comfortable pair of shoes.

Another flaw? Javier is not the only one to participate in the trend.

TikTok user @aesthetictimewarper, who has now deleted his or her account, used to share "footage" from 2714 (very specific) that insisted aliens would take over Earth following a massive meteor shower. (Not unlike Unidentified with Demi Lovato —just kidding!)

At the very least, it's good to know that TikTok is still holding up 693 years into the future. Anyone else curious what types of trends the extraterrestrials have up their sleeve?

If anyone else from the future cares to reach out to us via TikTok, Instagram, Twitter and so on, could you tell us how the 2024 US election unfolds? Thanks!

TikTok 'time traveller' swears he is last human left in ghost town from 2027

Javier, a time traveller from 2027, has shared images of a deserted Rome including the Colosseum, claiming that he is the last person still alive with no other humans left

A man who claims to be a time traveller from 2027 says that he has proof that he is "alone in the world" with no other humans left.

Javier went viral in 2021 when he said he had been transported six years into the future and was the only person still living. He has now shared videos of himself wandering around places that are normally packed with people like the Colosseum in Rome.

New footage shows him walking around a deserted Rome during daylight hours on his own. There are cars which are parked up and none being used while there is fencing around the Colosseum as he still claims to be "alone in the world".

But many TikTok followers are not convinced and Javier, who posts under the username @unicosobreviviente (which translates to 'only survivor'), has produced more evidence that he is the "last human alive".

One doubter suggested that he "he just wakes up really early" but the self-proclaimed time-warper responded to the comment by sharing a video on social media, showing his watch before looking out over the an empty street. Cars were parked up alongside the road and there was no traffic in sight.

In the clip posted by Javier , the city seemed to be completely empty as there was no one around. Not one single pedestrian – despite claiming the time to be 8.09pm. The video has since gained more than 98,000 likes and many TikTok viewers have commented on whether it is true.

One user said: "Record the next day at the same time and see if the same cars and motorcycles are there." Another argued: "He is the only survivor but there are other windows with lights." Meanwhile a third commented: "And you are still "trapped" in another dimension..." A fourth wrote: "It's true, your videos are verified."

Back in February 13, 2021, Javier shared a video, walking through an empty street, before the recording cuts to an empty clothing store. Although the shop in the Spanish city of Valencia was stacked full of items, there were no humans around.

Since his initial post, he has regularly posts videos to his 8.1million followers. Each clip is completely devoid of human activity, with no other souls seen around. But, necessities such as electricity and internet connection seem to still be available for the time traveller to be able to upload the videos.

‘time traveler’ claims hostile aliens are coming to ‘take back earth’.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

It was close encounters of the absurd kind.

A self-proclaimed “time traveler,” who warned of an alien invasion, claims that said extraterrestrials have — wait for it — arrived on Earth yesterday and abducted 8,000 earthlings. A video depicting the supposed dystopian announcement has amassed 161,000 views , as well as ridicule from viewers, who wondered if he was 1.21 gigawatts short of a DeLorean.

“The Champion has arrived to bring 8,000 people to another planet,” declared Eno Alaric — known as @theradiantimetraveler — in the clip posted on March 23, 2023. The so-called interdimensional voyager, who claims to be from the year 2671, frequently posts his apocalyptic forecasts to his 400,000 TikTok followers.

His latest vision for armageddon, which he’d been “foretelling” for months in various clips, warned of a “very hostile alien species” known as the Distants that are coming to “take back the earth.” It’s a fight “we will not win,” per one of the many videos, which feature trippy cosmic imagery and are set to epic music worthy of a Roland Emmerich disaster film.

Thankfully, Alaric predicted that another alien — dubbed the Champion, whose world was destroyed by the hostiles — would save some of us from Judgment Day. No word as to whether its spaceship plays the iconic Queen anthem upon arrival.

“On March 23, 2023, about 8,000 people will be taken to another habitable planet,” the time traveler claims.

Lo and behold, the UFOracle said his prognostication came true. In the aforementioned video from yesterday, the forecaster claimed that our intergalactic guardian angel had touched down at 2 pm to select the elite 8,000. The Champ then left at 7:30 pm EST that same day — around 10 minutes before the video went live — to embark on their mission, according to Alaric. “The 8,000 have a long journey ahead of them, about 4 years since the Champion can travel faster than light,” per the clip.

UFO flying at night.

It’s unclear which individuals made the cut, however, Alaric claims that the Champions were looking for the best “engineers, scientists, doctors and leaders” for their interstellar Noah’s arc.

“These 8,000 people are what keep the human species alive, from inside and outside threats,” Alaric intoned. “Mankind is a threat to itself in many ways, such as fighting, and causing the first nuclear winter.”

Although this Space Force better be prepared as the Distants — who “own earth” and erected the Pyramids of Giza to prove this, hypothesized Alaric — touchdown in 2024, per the clip.

Despite his cataclysmic vision, the perennial doomsayer told Earthlings not to worry. “I want you all to know that you are safe,” assured Alaric. “I am trying to warn you all of what’s to come.”

@radianttimetraveler The Champion is Coming… #fyp #radianttime #foryou #timetravel #viral #timetraveler #xyzbca #entertainment ♬ Horror Music(842278) – Pavel

Go figure: He made many viewers want to time-travel back to before they watched the video.

“Tomorrow he’s going to have to explain why they didn’t come,” scoffed one naysayer. Another skeptic quipped, “Please let me know the lottery combinations ASAP time traveler.”

One wondered why the Champion left Alaric behind given his “spot-on” prediction.

A nebula.

This is far from Alaric’s first forecast for the apocalypse.

Recent predictions have included everything from a 750-foot “megatsunami” devastating San Francisco in May to a group of teenagers discovering a T. rex egg and a portal to other universes in Texas in July.

Will two-ways make Louisville streets safer? Residents, officials back city's projects

time travellers from 2027

One-way streets will gradually disappear throughout Louisville, from the West End to Old Louisville and Smoketown.

Once thought of as an efficient way to facilitate suburban commuters into and out of downtown, city officials, homeowners and urban planners now see one-way streets as a catalyst for dangerous travel.

By the end of 2027, new two-way streets could be found on Second, Third, Logan, Shelby, Chestnut and Main streets, among others. The first completed two-way street project could be finished by this summer.

With these projects, the city promises traveling in Louisville will be safer for cars, bikes and pedestrians by switching out traffic lights for stop signs, restriping pedestrian crossings and extending sidewalk curbs.

The changes can't come fast enough for some. In the neighborhoods where two-way conversions will take place, residents said speeding plays a role in collisions with people, animals and other cars, sometimes even resulting in horrific rollover crashes including a 2021 incident on Second Street.

"It was a van speeding down the street. It clipped a woman on her way to work and hit two parked cars, then it hit a tree," Cyndi Smith said, the morning after she moved into her Second Street home.

Smith, who serves as president of the Second Street Neighborhood Association, believes speeding cars are a common issue for residents. She said there are drivers who appear to be in a hurry every day, "flying down" Second Street as they head toward downtown or across the Clark Memorial Bridge to southern Indiana.

While some two-way projects are new, others have been in the works for about a decade. Proposed conversions for West Muhammad Ali Boulevard and West Chestnut Street idled for six years due to what officials said was a lack of funding.

The project came back into the picture in August 2022 when it was added to the larger Reimagine 9th Street, a proposed redesign of the roadway to make it safer and more appealing. Reimagine 9th Street had also stalled after it was first announced in 2016 , the Courier Journal previously reported. Now, both the Ali and Chestnut conversions are scheduled to be complete by "early 2026," according to plans from Metro Public Works .

What do Louisville residents think about one-way streets?

Cars traveling over posted speed limits also pose a danger to people walking in the neighborhood, Smith, the Second Street Neighborhood Association president, said.

"Even if you are at a corner where there is a signal for you to cross, it's kind of crazy because people are not paying attention."

District 6 Metro Councilman Phillip Baker, who represents the portion of Second and Third Street impacted by the two-way conversion plan, agreed with Smith, saying speeding is a common hazard.

"My hope is that when people slow down, it's a safer community for kids, for seniors, for everybody," he said.

Third Street resident Jeff Watts-Roy thinks speeding is a problem on his street, too. He said he once did an experiment where he pointed a radar gun from his house to the street, finding the average speed of a passing car to be 25 to 30 miles per hour over the speed limit of 35 miles per hour. Some cars even traveled above 100 miles per hour, he said.

"Since we started living here in 2007, there have been at least three accidents where cars ended up upside down," said Watts-Roy, who is a member of the 1300 Association , a Third Street-based neighborhood group. "They were driving so fast, that when they hit a car on the side, they rolled their car over."

What does data say about one-way and two-way streets?

Reports show roadway fatalities are becoming increasingly problematic in Louisville. According to data from Vision Zero Louisville , a city-funded transportation safety initiative, 2023 was the city's deadliest year for traffic deaths in the past seven years. Vision Zero recorded 136 traffic deaths in 2023, eight more than the previous year.

Vision Zero director Claire Yates said two-way conversions support the organization's goal of zero traffic deaths by 2050.

"Vehicle speed and weight greatly determine injury severity in a crash, and two-way conversions discourage speeding by reducing the number of directional travel lanes," Yates said in an email.

When Louisville experienced suburban growth in the mid-20th century, the city adopted one-way streets as a way for commuters to get in and out of downtown as quickly as possible, according to a 2009 study of Louisville's one-way streets.

Patrick Piuma, director of the Urban Design Studio at the University of Louisville, said one-way streets can confuse drivers new to the city.

"It makes people have to drive farther, especially if they're looking for a parking space or place to stop," he said. "If you can't find it, then you have to drive around several blocks to get back to where you were at again, as opposed to a two-way, where you can just stop anywhere."

Conversions could have significant benefits not only for travelers, but daily commuters as well. A 2015 Louisville-based study authored by University of Louisville professor John Gilderbloom and William Riggs, a Louisville native with expertise in urban development, found that while two-way streets produce slower traffic flows, there are generally less accidents compared to one-way streets due to the decrease in speed.

In their study, Gilderbloom and Riggs compared collision data from Second and Third streets to data from Brook and First streets, which underwent two-way street conversions in 2011. In the year after Brook and First streets were reconfigured, the rate of collisions decreased by 36% and 60%, respectively, compared to the five years prior to the conversion. The authors stated the two-way traffic flow on Brook and First streets was "perceived as slower and beneficial."

To safely ease traffic jams on two-way streets, Piuma said traffic on a two-way street could flow better if traffic lights are replaced with stop signs.

"It doesn't seem like it makes sense, but when there's not a lot of volume, or if you're sitting there waiting for the light to turn green, when you could just pulled up to a stop sign and then on to the next one," Piuma said. "(Stop signs are) more reliable for pedestrians to understand what's happening at the intersection."

Do residents approve of proposed two-way projects?

Watts-Roy believes two-ways are a proven way to slow down traffic, but he thinks there may still be some speeders on Third Street.

"Even with the two-way, you're still gonna have people who have always (sped), and they're going to keep doing it," he said.

The planned three-year timeline for a two-way conversion on Second Street is not much of an issue for Smith, who said she is willing to wait for something she believes will make her neighborhood better.

"My background is in project management. I understand how the process takes time," Smith said. "Once you have the funding earmarked, you have to spend your due diligence of gathering information and getting a design together that is going to meet the majority of everybody's needs with the funding that you have."

Here's a look at all projects that will convert one-way streets to two-way:

Second and Third streets

In 2023, Metro Government applied for federal funding from the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program. Created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, it will provide up to $5 billion in funding for projects across the country from 2022-26.

Smith wrote a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, asking him to accept Louisville's application for grant money. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear did the same .

The work paid off. In December, the city announced it would receive up to $7.5 million from the Safe Streets program. Construction on Second and Third streets is estimated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and conclude in the third quarter of 2027 .

The changes to these two streets could reduce the annual number of crashes by 68 and the number of fatal crashes by 14, according to the grant application the city submitted to the federal government.

Much of the cost for the two-way conversions at Second and Third streets — $7.5 million — will be covered through the federal grant Louisville Metro received last year. City and state officials each pledged to allocate $2.5 million for the project, bringing the total funding to $12.5 million, the Courier Journal previously reported.

Chestnut Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard

Louisville Metro plans to turn Chestnut Street (which becomes River Park Drive at 28th Street) and Muhammad Ali Boulevard into two-ways from Ninth Street to their ends in the Shawnee neighborhood. Construction on these projects, scheduled to begin in 2025, will take around a year to finish, according to Louisville Metro .

Former Mayor Greg Fischer's administration initially rolled out the Ali-Chestnut two-way conversions and the Reimagine 9th Street project separately. The projects were later tacked on to Reimagine 9th Street to secure funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation's RAISE program, which aims to "ensure that taxpayers are getting the highest value for every dollar invested" for major transportation construction or repair projects. Louisville received about $15.6 million in RAISE funding in August 2022.

In addition to federal funding, the city pledged to invest $5 million in Reimagine 9th Street, while an additional $4 million will come from "other federal sources," according to Louisville Metro's website .

Logan and Shelby streets

A two-way proposal for Logan and Shelby streets, includes more than a new-look road with a yellow-striped line. Crews plan to replace four traffic lights with stop signs and extend curbs to reduce the length of pedestrian crossings.

Construction on the project is expected to be completed sometime during summer 2024, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Morgan Woodrum said.

Construction of the $2.9 million conversion of Logan and Shelby streets was awarded by the state transportation cabinet to Louisville-based Flynn Brothers Contracting.

Main Street

Main Street is also set for a two-way conversion . Work on the "East Phase" of the project, from Wenzel to Second streets, could begin in "late 2024," according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The conversion would eventually extend about three miles to 22nd Street and include new several new features, such as designated left-turn lanes, a bike lane, crosswalks and traffic signals to accommodate the redesigned traffic flow.

As of March 29, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet was determining how much the Main Street project will cost, Woodrum said.

Power Rankings: the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday

Power Rankings

Change Text Size

For as powerful as Jack Nicklaus presented as a golfer, he wouldn’t have become a living legend and arguably the greatest of all time without an equal measure of touch. Many things can be measured but only he knows how it’s felt. That balance contributed to his career as a course architect, and it is within the spirit of an artist for why a masterpiece truly never is complete.

Muirfield Village Golf Club is in its fourth year following a renovation that left little updated, but – shocker! – there’s yet another significant change to a not-so-significant hole of the stern Nicklaus design that rises into focus for the 49th edition of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.

Details of it and more information concerning the seventh Signature Event of the season are below.

The Memorial is the last of the three legacy invitationals of the season. Like The Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard previously contested, there will be a 36-hole cut of low 50 plus ties and all golfers within 10 strokes of the lead. The field is 73 deep as of midday Monday. The Travelers Championship that concludes the series of Signature Events on June 20-23 will not have a cut.

Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, is positioned to serve as a proper primer for next week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. The course will punish the unprepared. As the stock par 72 has matured in its latest iteration, scoring has risen steadily with averages it hadn’t logged in a decade. It eclipsed 73 in each of the last two years, the higher of which 73.522 a year ago. That’s due in part to the fact that it was the stingiest course in all of 2022-23 in yielding greens in regulation at just 9.39 on average per round.

The quartet of par 3s also was the toughest set among all courses with a scoring average of 3.21, while the par-3 16th hole has been in a class of its own. In 2017, 2020 and 2023, it was the hardest of all par 3s on the PGA TOUR in each of those seasons. Last year’s average was 3.36. However, if any entrant had the audacity to look forward to its challenge this year, he will be greeted with an entirely new angle.

The tee is 30 yards to the right of its old perch. That has shifted the perspective of the water hazard from front to primarily left of the target that now looks deeper even though it hasn’t changed. A front bunker was replaced with short grass and the hole was reduced by two yards to its new maximum of 218 yards. It’s the only major modification to Muirfield Village that now tips at 7,569 yards.

Bentgrass greens average 5,000 square feet and will approach if not eclipse 13 feet using a Stimpmeter. Primary rough is four inches as usual, so the course tests similarly. Muscle plays off the tee, irons must be sharp on approach, pars don’t suck.

Cooperative conditions are forecast throughout the tournament. That doesn’t mean that a sprinkle can be ruled out entirely but a delay is unexpected as daytime temperatures scale into the 70s. The primary challenge will be in the form of wind. The constant will be its prevailing push from westerly directions. (Wednesday’s Golfbet Insider will include an updated review of the weather.)

The survivor, er, champion of the Memorial will bank 700 FedExCup points and $4 million. He’ll also secure an exemption into THE PLAYERS Championship through 2027 through which his PGA TOUR membership exemption will extend (or longer depending on his current status).

16 best places to see the 2027 total solar eclipse

These are the best scenic spots and ideal locations to see the total solar eclipse on Aug. 2, 2027.

1. Castillo de Luna

2. cádiz, 3. baelo claudia, 4. isla de las palomas, 5. gibraltar, 7. martil beach, 8. fort santa cruz, 9. kerkennah islands, 10. siwa oasis, 13. temple of horus, 14. kom ombo temple, 15. red sea coast.

On Aug. 2, 2027, a total solar eclipse will be visible from a broad path sweeping across the Atlantic Ocean, Southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon drifts in front of the sun while it's slightly larger in apparent size so that the moon completely covers the sun's disk.

The path of totality will measure a maximum of 160 miles (258 kilometers) wide, and it will cross Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Somalia and the Chagos Islands.

The August 2027 "eclipse of the century" will bring the longest totality since 2009 and the longest totality on land since 1991. Peaking at 6 minutes, 23 seconds, it also will be the longest remaining totality of the 21st century. The next-longest totality will occur on Aug. 12, 2045, when there will be 6 minutes, 6 seconds of totality close to Florida.

It is not safe to look directly at the sun with your naked eyes during the partial phases of a solar eclipse ; you must wear solar eclipse glasses designed for solar viewing. Read our guide on how to observe the sun safely .

The marquee viewing location will be Luxor, Egypt, the site of the ancient capital of Thebes and home to myriad monuments and temples. It's almost guaranteed to have clear skies. However, there are many other destinations to consider in Spain, Morocco, Algeria and beyond, all of which will experience totality durations of over four minutes.

Here are 16 locations that could be perfect for this rare event. The sun will never be lower than 37 degrees as seen from any of these locations, so sight lines should be no problem.

All times and cloud statistics come from Time and Date and are for totality only. A partial solar eclipse will be seen around 80 minutes before and after totality.
