Campsite Review: White Sands Missile Range

Campsite Review: White Sands Missile Range (Volunteer Park Travel Campground) is a military-only campground located on White Sands Missile Range Army Post. It is a very nice, very quiet place.

While traveling on U.S. Highway 70 east of Las Cruces New Mexico turn south on Owens Road (NMSR – 213) to enter the main gate for the facility. After entering the gate, turn west on Aberdeen Avenue followed by a left turn on Goddard Avenue. The campground will be on the south side of the park, directly south of the youth center.

There is no reception or check-in at the campground. The office is at Bldg. 1338 Ripley Street.

The campground is easily one of the smallest, nicest military RV Park we have ever been to. It has 8 full-hookup pull-through RV parking sites. 

Now that I said it may be the nicest military tiny campground we have ever stayed in, we didn’t have a good stay, all because of the weather. The location is easy to access to Las Cruces and White Sands National Monument and would probably be fun had the weather been even poor — it was miserable.

Comfort: The temperature was bitter cold, wet, and extremely windy.

Campsite Review: White Sands Missile Range insider info:

The golf course across the street from the park is closed.

Some have noted that reservations are sometimes not accepted and at other times it seems that the reserved sites are already taken by others. We did not have that problem. There is some overflow camping with electricity at a lower price, and it appears that there were some overflow sites without any hookups in a large parking area nearby.

We had very bad weather with some hail and frequent wind-driven rain. The problem was a weather pattern called a bomb cyclone. The wind was so bad we pulled in our slides. Starting at 2 pm, wind up to 70 knots started bouncing the house and proved to us how many drafts we really have. Our slide toppers took a beating. So did our paint. We were hit by numerous high-speed pine cones from a forested area about a mile away. The really high winds lasted for about forty-eight hours.

White Sands Missile Range is an ideal place to camp while visiting White Sands National Monument. Also if you are there for the day(s) that it is open, you can visit the Trinity site. Your timing has to be perfect though the Trinity site is only open for a few hours each year. Here is our blog post about our visit. Trinity Site

Outdoor Recreation offers equipment rentals and a variety of programs such as paintball, bike rides, camping, hiking and special day trips throughout the year. Outdoor Recreation is home to an RV Travel Camp (reservations required) available for a day, weekend, or week-long getaways and also has a park and pavilion available for rent for family picnics or large gatherings.

All Reservations must be made in person at Outdoor Recreation.

Currently closed do to renovations, keep checking for availability.

This Facility is located at Volunteer Park and is perfect for meetings and parties. Cost is $50 per day per use. There is $50 refundable cleaning deposit required.  Reservations are required.

Refunds will not be granted for inclement weather. Cleaning Deposits will only be refunded if the Lodge is cleaned after use.

The skeet and trap ranges are open on a reservation basis only.  Reservations must be made at least 5 days prior to intended use and must be for 4 or more people.

• Cost for (25) birds is $4
• Shotguns are available for a small fee

Sale of firearms to include handguns and long guns, ammunition, firearm accessories, and knives.  Firearm special orders, firearm transfers, RV storage, personal 10 x 10 storage units.

Eligibility: AD, NG/Res (Active), Ret, DoD-Civ (AD/Ret), Dep and Contractors w/ WSMR.

Restrictions: Must have a reservation. Pets must be on a leash. Owner must clean up after pets. Must have current vaccination records. No firearms allowed. No tents allowed.

Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance .

 Each site has a canopy, picnic table, and grill except overflow sites.

Kitty Pechersk

About volunteering organization.

"Kitty Pechersk" is a local volunteer community in Kyiv's Pechersk district. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, we've been instrumental in helping people establish home communities, serving as a vital tool for providing humanitarian, security, and psychological support to our neighbors. Over time, our efforts have included distributing grocery kits and delivering lunches to elderly residents with limited mobility in the area.

At present, one of our key initiatives is the production of "kikimoras," which are camouflage clothing for military use, helmet camouflage covers, and camouflage nets. Additionally, we engage in seasonal activities such as crafting trench candles. As of April 2024, our dedicated team of volunteers at "Kitty Pechersk" has already created 1791 kikimoras, woven 600 camouflage nets (covering 20471 square meters), produced over 5971 trench candles, and sewn 1120 helmet camouflage covers.

cheapest parking in KBP is parking P12 near closed terminal F, costs 45 UAH/day

Hi golestaninader and welcome to Kyiv forum,

I always leave mine in the airport in the similar case. But there are quite a few paid parking lots in the nearby town of Boryspil. Surprisingly, some appeared to have created a web-page:
