IMPORTANT NOTICE : The Embassy of Italy in Sri Lanka does not have any “official” translator/interpreter, and anyone claiming or attributing to himself such a title is in fact providing false information to the public.

Methods of public access

In order to improve service. a new online appointment booking system for consular services offered by the Embassy has been in operation since 21/10/2022, available at https://prenotami.esteri.it/. Access to the consular chancellery offices is now possible only by appointment. Only for Italian citizens, in case of emergency or urgency, direct access to the Embassy is still possible during office hours (Monday-Thursday 9.30am-12.30pm). Given the nature of the service, no appointment is required for requests to issue Emergency Travel Documents (ETD), which can always be submitted during office hours.

Through the portal it is possible to select the category of service requested (passport renewal, civil status and registry documents, notary deeds, pensions) and the desired day and time. For all categories of services not expressly mentioned in the drop-down menu (with the exception of legalisations, which continue to be carried out through the outsourcer Forsiter), it is necessary to select ‘all other consular services’.

Please pay special attention to the appointment category booked. In the event of an error when booking, it will be necessary to cancel the appointment obtained and proceed with a new booking.

New appointment slots will be published online on a weekly or monthly basis. If no appointment slots are currently available for your desired category, please wait a few days and then try again.

I have submitted police clearance certificate of Mrs. R.P.G. Manjula Damayanthi Rajapaksha on 04th November 2021 (Ref: LEGL/041121/0015/01). Still I haven’t received any information about the application. Previously also had to submit the same for two times as the process took too long and the validity period of the police clearance report has expired. Since, four months has elapsed from submission I am fearing that this time also the validity of the Police clearance certificate will be expired. Thank you H.T.R. What is the ETA for Italian Citizens?

Sri Lanka has an effective online visa waiver system known as the ETA or Electronic Travel Authorization. The ETA was introduced in 2012 to allow citizens of certain eligible nationalities to visit Sri Lanka for short stays using an electronic visa.

Through the ETA system, there are specific Sri Lanka visa requirements for Italian citizens which means that they can apply and get prior approval for their visa instead of on arrival .
