5 of the Best Queen RV Mattresses

Vacationing in an RV allows travelers to sleep on the go, and replacing the camper mattress is often a necessary upgrade.

Many main bedroom beds in mid-size to large RVs come in queen or short queen size. Those opting to upgrade their short queen mattresses find the options less expensive than a queen, often lighter in weight, and more versatile to fit almost any RV. Every RV bed should be measured to assure a new mattress fits correctly.

The Sleep Foundation defines an RV short queen mattress in dimensions of 60” x 75”, but we found “RV” specific mattresses measuring longer and shorter. In fact, many of today’s higher end campers and RVs incorporate traditional mattress sizes, from queen at 60” x 80” to variations on king sizes.

Every sleeper has their own needs when it comes to the level of firmness in a mattress and individuals differ on other features provided by modern sleep technology. We have accumulated our recommendations for the best RV queen mattresses based on their standout features.

OUR PICK: GhostBed RV

The GhostBed RV mattress is our choice as it provides near luxury performance and comfort at an affordable price. Available in either all-foam or hybrid (foam and spring), the construction provides minimal motion transfer, which is perfect for sleepers sharing an RV with active evening campers. The GhostBed RV is 10” thick and comes with a 20-year warranty and plenty of positive online reviews. The mattress is constructed for cooling and rates between 7 and 8 on the firmness scale. GhostBeds are available direct from the manufacturer, plus through a variety of online and brick-and-mortar retailers, making them easy to purchase in a hurry.

FOR KIDS: Lucid Gel Memory Foam

For campers looking to upgrade a child’s sleep the Lucid Gel Memory Foam is a wonderful mattress choice. The easy to access height of only 5” makes it easy to get in and out of bed and a plush top layer of foam helps ventilate the mattress and increase airflow and breathability. Four inches of bamboo charcoal-infused foam is hypoallergenic, meaning fewer allergic reactions. It is supportive enough for big kids. The bamboo charcoal infusion helps keep the mattress smelling fresh. Lucid Gel Memory Foam mattresses come in both queen and short queen sizes.

The Nolah Evolution tops the luxury mattress upgrades category (Photo: Courtesy Nolah)

LUXURY: Nolah Evolution

If size and length is not an option, as it is in most top-of-the-line RVs, the 15” Nolah Evolution is the most luxurious possibility. The high-tech, hybrid mattress is rated as the Best Mattress for Spinal Alignment by the Sleep Foundation. When it is too warm in the RV the heat-dissipating Euro topper and graphite-infused AirFoamICE layer provide adequate cooling. It can be hard to make a bed in the close quarters of a camper; the Nolah simplifies maneuvering this larger mattress with sturdy double-handles on each side. Underbed storage is now even easier to access. The stylish design of this upgrade is another advantage of this award-winning mattress.

HEAVY DUTY: BigDawg Mattress

Manufactured in Mount Airy, North Carolina, SleepDog mattresses are made for travel, literally. The company specializes in mattresses for big rig truckers and RVs and all models are Department of Transportation approved. The BigDawg Mattress is a 9” multi-layer, memory foam mattress made with a CoolRest comfort layer. Double sided construction allows for extended use. The moderately priced BigDawg Mattress comes with a 120-night, risk-free trial and a 10-year warranty. The RV queen size is a sturdy 57 lbs.

BUDGET: Wayfair Sleep Memory Foam

Retailing for under $200, the Wayfair Sleep Memory Foam is one of the cheapest, yet best rated mattresses on the market. The 6” model is rated medium on the firmness scale and provides comfort through an open-cell foam design. A top layer of green tea-infused foam provides a calming effect. This mattress is also one of the lightest on the market, making it perfect for ultralight trailers. This mattress is a good fit for RV beds with full foundations as slats may lead to improper support. Wayfair Sleep company policy provides a 100-night free trial.

RV Mattress Sizes and Guide

queen size travel trailer mattress

Many RV mattresses are different than standard residential sizes . A queen RV mattress in an RV differs from a residential queen mattress. This means you can’t make any assumptions when shopping for an RV bed.

What Size Is an RV Queen Mattress?

An RV queen mattress measures the same as a residential queen mattress, 60” wide x 80” long. However, an RV “short” queen mattress measures only 60” wide x 75” long. Therefore, it’s essential to understand the short distinction. Not everyone knows the difference, so measuring the mattress yourself is necessary to confirm. A short queen is more common in RVs because they take up less space, usually at a premium.

What Size Is an RV King Mattress?

An RV king mattress is not the same size as a residential king mattress, which measures 76” wide x 80” long. Instead, it measures 72” wide x 80” long. An RV king is not as wide due to limited space. In addition to the RV King, there is also an RV “short” King, which measures 72” wide x 75” long, and an RV California King, which measures 72” wide x 84” long. The short queen is the smallest, and the California king is the largest.

What Size is an RV Full Mattress?

An RV full mattress is the same size as a residential one, measuring 54” wide x 75” long. There are no other common variations of this mattress size.

What Size is an RV Twin Mattress?

Like a full mattress, the RV twin is the same size as a residential twin, measuring 38” wide x 75” long. There are also no other variations of this mattress size.

What Size is an RV Bunk Mattress?

An RV bunk mattress can measure many different sizes. This mattress has no standard size, and it varies significantly from RV to RV. However, most will be between 23” – 35” wide and 75” to 80” long.

RV Mattress Size Chart

Some of these dimensions match what you’d find in a mattress store. For many RVs, shorter beds are preferred to provide space to move around the bed on either side.

When buying a new mattress for your RV , start by measuring your old mattress. If you’re already short on space to maneuver around the bed, see if a short version offers smaller dimensions than your current mattress.

Then, stop by your local Camping World Design Center to speak with a specialist about the type of mattress that’s best for you and your RV.

RV Mattress Types

lady testing firmness of RV mattress

Not all RV mattresses are made of the same materials. Like residential mattresses, there are many different options. Let’s find out which is best for you.

Memory Foam Mattress

Often considered a premium material, memory foam does a great job distributing your body’s weight, which helps take tension off your joints. Also, you won’t disturb your partner throughout the night if you’re a restless sleeper.

All-Foam Mattress

Foam mattresses typically have several layers, making them a well-rounded option. They breathe well and contain hypoallergenic properties, making them suitable for all climates.

Latex Mattress

Another material you may find in an RV mattress is latex. Latex mattresses are also hypoallergenic. In other words, they won’t trap or hold mildew, mold, dust, dust mites, and more.

Innerspring Mattress

Like most residential mattresses, innerspring mattresses are also used in RV’s. They are very economical, with plenty of options to choose from. However, one downside of this option is that the springs inside can rust over time if you live or travel through humid environments.

Air Mattress

Air mattresses are highly customizable, so you always get the perfect mix between support and comfort. However, they lack durability, which could be an issue while off-grid.

RV Mattress Frequently Asked Questions

If you still have some questions, you are not alone. Let’s review some of our most frequently asked questions to help put your mind at ease.

Can You Put a Regular Mattress in an RV?

Regular Mattress vs RV Mattress

Mattresses can be quite heavy – a residential queen-size mattress can weigh as much as 150 pounds. In contrast, most RV mattresses are thinner and lighter, which is important because they typically rest on a sheet of ⅜” plywood (sometimes thicker or thinner, depending on the RV manufacturer).

The platform underneath your RV bed may not support the weight of a standard mattress. Consult your RV manufacturer to determine the maximum mattress weight your bed platform can support. Remember, it must support the weight of the mattress and all those sleeping on it.

Foam mattresses tend to be more lightweight than innerspring mattresses, which is why you’ll find many RV mattresses made of memory foam or gel foam. Hybrid designs provide the feel of an innerspring mattress with comfort layers of memory foam on top. Your best bet is to compare mattress weights, regardless of their construction.

Can You Move the Mattress Easily?

Lightweight Mattress for RV

You might not think about moving your mattress once you get it into your RV, but RV bedrooms are often tight quarters. This means you won’t have as much room to make your RV bed as you do at home.

You may need to maneuver your mattress around to add or remove bed linens . It’ll be much easier to do so with a lighter mattress. Beyond that, lighter RV mattresses will be easier to maneuver into your RV once you dispose of your old mattress.

You’ll need a mattress that flexes enough to navigate the narrow hallways in your RV. Many RVs have at least one tight turn before you get to the bedroom. That means you need a mattress that can swing that. Foam mattresses can be bent or stuffed basically anywhere.

Don’t count innerspring mattresses out, though. Many of them can hang a tight corner pretty easily. Get a friend to help, and you should be able to maneuver the mattress into the right place in your RV. Just don’t go too stiff because the last thing you want is a mattress you can’t get in your RV.

How Often Should You Replace an RV Mattress?

RV Mattress Replacement

Most RV mattresses should be replaced about every eight years. However, it’s important to remember that these mattresses aren’t necessarily designed for full-time use. The more you travel in your RV (and sleep in your bed), the more often you’ll need to replace your RV mattress.

If you can’t remember how long you’ve had your RV mattress, just consider its comfort. Have you noticed a change in your sleeping patterns? Do you sleep much worse in your RV than you do at home? If you answer yes to either of those questions, it may be time for an RV mattress replacement .

Lastly, a note that most of us don’t like to think about – your RV mattress accumulates “stuff” over time. We’re talking about dust, dead skin, sweat, and other things that come off your body or make their way into your RV when camping.

Replacing your RV mattress regularly is important for your health. Older mattresses can be breeding grounds for bacteria, so replacing your mattress regularly is vital to healthy, happy RV road trips.

Can I Add a Mattress Topper to an RV Mattress?

If you want to make your RV mattress more comfortable without buying a new one, consider getting a mattress topper. A mattress topper can completely transform the feel and comfort of your RV mattress.

Most people think of mattress pads and toppers to adjust the firmness level of an RV bed. They are certainly useful for softening your bed, but they can also reduce motion transfer, improve heat transfer, and provide pressure relief. High-density mattress toppers are just one of many RV bedroom accessories that can improve sleep .

I need a replacement bed frame once we purchase the mattress. Do you offer them or know where one can be found?

' src=

Can you tell us more about the year, make, and model of the RV you’re working on? As well as where exactly you’re replacing the mattress?

Hopefully a little more information can help us direct you to the right place.

We are looking to replace a full size (72″ x 58″ x 6″) with a deeper (8″ or so) mattress with “breathable” surface. Our current is not bad, it is surfaced with almost like a water-proof. Hot in Summer, cold in Winter and uncomfortable always. So what kind of key word should I use to hunt that down?

Here’s a link to our mattress selection, filtered for Full, Short Full, and Full XL sizes:

https://www.campingworld.com/inside-rv/bedroom/mattresses?prefn1=size&prefv1=Full%7CSHORT%20FULL%7CFULL%20XL

You’ll find several options 8 inches thick (or more) in that selection. For what it’s worth, Cozyway and Brooklyn Bedding are two of our favorite brands. Hope that helps!

I noticed you did not actually answer the question above regarding the hinged mattress, but simply referred the gentleman to a Camping World.

We are looking for the same thing. We bought a pre-owned 2019 RV from Camping World in good faith. They put in a ‘temporary’ mattress until they could get the hinged king for it. That has not happened, & we are struggling to find (been online & made phone calls to mattress companies) a hinged mattress that will fit when the bedroom slide-out is retracted for travel. WHERE can we find a short queen, a queen or a king hinged mattress? We would accept any of the three, or even a full-sized on at this point. Who actually makes or carries them. We have tried multiple mattress companies, the maker of our RV, and Camping World to find out. No luck. Please share where we can actually get one!

I’m sorry to hear this! I have a few follow up questions that I’m hoping will help me provide a better path to a more comfortable night’s rest for you.

What is the make and model of your RV? What are the dimensions of that current temporary mattress? What are the dimensions that the new mattress needs to fit when the bedroom slide-out is retracted? Is that a side or rear slide-out?

In the meantime, I can also say that CozyWay and Brooklyn Bedding are the most popular mattress manufacturers you’ll currently find on our retail site: https://www.campingworld.com/inside-rv/bedroom/mattresses

Here’s also a linked our collection sorted by mattress size to include short queen, queen, RV king, and full size options: https://www.campingworld.com/inside-rv/bedroom/mattresses?prefn1=size&prefv1=Short%20Queen%7CQueen%7CRV%20King%7CFull

Looking forward to your replies!

My epro 16bh bunk mattresses are 30×74. I see several 30X75, which you list in the article as being a standard RV size. Even the “customizable” mattress Camping World sells says this is not an option when you plug in the 30×74 dimensions. Am I SOL?

This option from Cozyway measures 72″ x 29″ x 4″: https://www.campingworld.com/cozyway-medium-firm-4-bunkie-mattress-670335.html

That would give you a little wiggle room for sheets and a comforter when the bed is fully made. You can also browse our full selection and filter by bed size on the right-hand column (on desktop): https://www.campingworld.com/inside-rv/bedroom/mattresses

Hope that helps!

Looking for queen short hinged mattress for our Coachman. Do you know who makes them? In Las Vegas Nv.

' src=

Our RV Queen sized mattress is in good shape, but it has rounded corners on one end, and regular squared of corners on the other end. This makes it difficult to keep our lower “fitted” sheets in place, even when using elastic band connectors or mattress bead clamps to do so. Is there any type of fitted Queen sheets that will fit such a mattress, and if so where can we find them?

Hi Randall!

I’d reach out to your nearest Camping World dealership or Design Center. It looks like the closest Design Center to you might be all the way over in Mesa, AZ: https://www.campingworld.com/design-centers.html#dcLoc

But you should have a closer dealership in Vegas. Here’s where you can search for locations by zip code: https://rv.campingworld.com/locations

You can also see if anything matches your criteria on our retail site: https://www.campingworld.com/inside-rv/bedroom/mattresses

Do you wake up in the RV feeling unrested with an aching back or neck? If so, you may want to upgrade your RV mattress. Most of the factory-made RVs come standard with a fiber-filled mattress that is extremely uncomfortable to say the least.

These Quality RV Mattresses are Worth the Money

You left out the best mattress. The sleep number is not only the most comfortable but also the lightest. Also allows two users to choose their own level of firmness. Not sure why it was not included. It is standard equipment on many high end Class A motorhomes.

I thoroughly agree. We have one in our GD Reflection 337RLS that I installed. Very enjoyable nights sleep. No more sore back. Also have one at home.😎

Our bed is in our side tip out. When you retract the tip out you have to fold up the mattress. Ours is very uncomfortable. Do you make replacements for folding queen size mattresses?

Mr Hyde beat me to it!

Why was the Sleep Number kept off the list? We put a thin (1.5 inch) topper and it is more comfortable that our bed at home.

Wilderness RV Mattress is the best!

Wilderness collapses quickly. They’re just shitty Brooklyn bedding rebranded.

I agree, we have the Wilderness Montana Hybrid. Going on three years now and it is just as comfortable as it was on day one!

We just ordered our second Sleep Number bed. Besides the comfort of an air mattress the lightness makes it so much easier to change the sheets. We have a Class C motorhome and appreciate any place we can lessen the payload.

I agree. We replaced our Denver mattress on a Thor Tuscany 45AT after just three years. We chose the Sleep Number bed because we had a Tempurpedic Hybrid (dual-dual air bladders) at home and it suited us very well. We have not been disappointed with the new bed in the motorhome … we have no problems oversleeping in it any day of the week!

What happened to the first one?

We have a hybrid RV queen by Verlo. Very comfortable and reasonably priced.

We have had a Toshta in our Melbourne for four years and love it. It is a folding mattress that folds up when the slide is retracted.

It would be great if these companies started showing at RV shows so you could test a mattress out. I know most have return policies but we all know the hassle with that.

we bought a 2020 Keystone Passport 239ML. It came with the most uncomfortable queen mattress EVER! We bought the Zinus Memory Foam mattress and love it! Highly recommend it for those who don’t need or want a firm mattress.

How about weights of comparably sized mattresses? I have to lift up my mattress to access storage underneath and the websites don’t seem to provide this info. Thank you

Sleep number is by far the best to put in your RV. We have a king size and love it. My husband has a bad back and this bed lets him adjust the firmness as he needs it where I love the soft side of things so I keep my side soft. This is our 2nd sleep number. We had one in our home for 15 years. I can not even think about sleeping on any thing else.

I’m afraid to use a sleep number mattress after we had such a horrible sleep experience with the one we bought for our house. We sent it back but they would not refund us for the base. We hated the sleep number even after sleeping on it for many nights.

For smaller trailers like the Casita and Scamp as well as all others the Southern mattress is the way to go. They have so many orders for the smaller trailers they will round the back corners to fit the rounded corners of the trailer. These mattresses are comfort at its’ best. Martha

What about a mattress that folds – for slide out beds? I thought that might work well in a camper, especially when trying to make the bed, and taking it in and out of the camper.

It’s amazing that no one has never mentioned The Heartland Mattress company Out of Shipshewana Indiana. It was a option on our Riverside model 193 camper. Best matteress you’ll ever find Not cheap. But was best $ 750 you’ll ever spend !

What about the split mattress for a slide out. Upgrades and covers to protect them?

That’s my problem. I’ve tried contacting a few places and I guess they thought I was kidding when I said the mattress has to fold. They never answered.

We are FT RVers on a class A Bounder. Our select comfort expired. We found a queen size purple mattress that fits exactly the space in our bedroom. It was on sale at Mattress Firm for $500. A great deal, since original price was $1200+. We are sleeping wonderfully on our new mattress.

we have recently traded our pull trailer in for a 22 ft motorhome with a side out bedroom…we are struggling with the mattress even after adding a 4 inch memory foam pad. would love to hear options regarding better mattress for the slide out situation! thanks all!

No Froli mention?

I travel alone in a truck camper so I got rid of the cheap, thin queen innerspring mattress that came with the camper and replaced it with a twin sized Coleman air mattress. Now I have more space in the cab-over area to add plastic storage cabinets. The two unforeseen problems I encountered were insulation and changing altitudes but they were easily solved. The mattress came with battery powered pump so, although inconvenient, it was easy enough to adjust the air pressure when changing locations in mountainous areas. In cold climates it was like sleeping on a block of ice but that was fixed by adding a memory foam mattress topper. Now I have a crude and inexpensive sleep number bed!

Please include weights of various options, we need to lift a king mattress to access a large storage area underneath The ideal rest that came with our Journey 36M is horrible!

What is a good mattress for a sprinter van? It has seats that fold down and then needs some kind of topper. I tried Dormeo and it seems too firm. Any suggestions? it has to be moved in and out. Is there a good inflatable? Thanks for any suggestions.

I’m disappointed that no one is answering the people who require a fold-able mattress for the RV slide-out. I have that same situation, but I haven’t seen any solutions in this article or the comments.

This Zinus mattress is great for all sleepers really, having slept on my side, back, and belly, I haven’t woken up with a stiff/sore anything thus far. Sleep comes on quicker, I sleep deeper and longer and usually wake up in the same position I fell asleep in (the same goes for the GF and doggie as well!). The mattress had no noxious odor, maybe a little plastic the first day, but within 24 hours it dissipated and smelled fresh. One common criticism of memory foam mattresses is temperature regulation, aka “sleeping hot”, but no worries, this mattress is cool and I run hot all the time, even for me it was never too warm nor was it too cool, this is my “Goldilocks” mattress!

How to Choose a Short RV Queen Mattress

Short RV Queen Mattress

A good-quality RV mattress is a great way to get a good night’s sleep while on the road and camping.

However, with so many different mattresses on the market, it can be tough to know which one is right for you.

So to make things a little easier, here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for a new RV mattress.

When shopping for a new RV mattress, it’s important to keep in mind that price can vary quite a bit from one mattress to the next, with quality RV mattresses usually ranging from $150 to $600.

With more expensive versions offering higher-end features, such as cooling technology, charcoal-infused foam, and multi-layer construction.

While it might be tempting, it’s best to steer clear of extremely cheap RV mattresses that are less than $150, as they typically don’t offer much support or comfort and usually aren’t much better than the mattress that came with the RV.

Size is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing an RV mattress because it doesn’t matter how comfortable it is if it doesn’t fit.

So before you start shopping for an RV mattress, make sure to measure the space you have to work with.

Which will typically be 60 inches wide by 74 or 75 inches long, if your RV has an RV queen-size bed.

However, it’s always important to measure to make sure, as the size of an RV bed can vary slightly from one RV manufacturer to the next.

The three main firmness levels of an RV mattress are plush, medium, and firm, however, there are also many different sub-categories of firmness as well, such as medium-firm and medium-plush.

When it comes to an RV mattress’s firmness though, it’s really just a matter of personal preference and what type of sleeper you are.

Most people, however, tend to prefer medium to firm mattresses, as they offer a good balance of support and comfort for all types of sleepers.

Construction Type & Materials

The construction of an RV mattress can vary quite a bit from one model to the next.

However, there are really only three main types of construction used for RV mattresses including foam, innerspring, and hybrid construction, which is a combination of both foam and innerspring construction.

Most RV mattresses usually include at least some foam though, which can either be memory foam, latex foam, or polyurethane foam.

While there are benefits to each type of foam, memory foam is usually the best choice for an RV mattress, as it’s very comfortable and offers good support.

Warranty & Trial Periods

Well-made quality RV mattresses will usually come with some sort of warranty, typically lasting between 5 and 10 years.

While a longer warranty is always better, it’s also important to make sure that the warranty is backed by the manufacturer and not just the retailer. It’s also important to read the fine print carefully.

As many mattress warranties are limited warranties, which have clauses in the warranty that allow the company to deny the claim if they deem the problem to be an issue of customer abuse.

It’s also worth pointing out that some companies offer a trial period that will let you try the mattress for a certain amount of time, usually 30 days.

And will provide a money-back guarantee if you’re not completely satisfied with the mattress.

RV Mattress Upgrades

While not a necessity, there are some upgrades that can make an RV mattress even more comfortable as well as enjoyable to sleep on, which we’ve listed below.

  • Cooling Technology
  • Charcoal-Infused Foam
  • Edge Support
  • Hypoallergenic Material
  • Removable Mattress Cover
  • Multi-Layer Construction
  • CertiPUR US Certified Foam

An RV short queen mattress is typically either 59 or 60 inches wide by 74 or 75 inches long.

A standard queen mattress will typically not fit in an RV without modifications, as most queen mattresses in RVs are actually RV-short queens, which are anywhere from 5 to 6 inches shorter compared to a standard queen.

Most RV queen mattresses use 60×75 inch sheets, though it’s always important to measure your mattress before purchasing to make sure.

When it comes to finding the best RV short queen mattress, there are a lot of things to consider, such as price, size, firmness, and construction.

Hopefully, though, you were able to find the perfect RV mattress for your specific needs, by reading our best RV short queen mattress guide.

Happy sleeping and happy traveling!

How Do I Pick the Right RV Mattress?

Most people spend a good amount of time researching before buying a mattress for their bedroom. It makes sense—you're about to spend every night on it! But isn't vacay sleep just as important? Make the right choice for your RV by considering the following:

  • What size do you need?
  • Do you have any sizing limitations in your RV, such as a bunk bed style or a cut corner?
  • What types of mattresses do you like?
  • What “extras” do you like—cooling features, pillowtop, etc.?
  • Is there a trial period, in case the mattress doesn't fit your comfort needs?
  • Is there a solid warranty, for peace of mind?

What Size Mattress Protector Do I Need for My RV Mattress?

Great question! Although you can find RV-specific bedding, you can easily adapt our cooling mattress protector to the GhostBed RV. With our signature 2” elastic band around it, it'll stay in place perfectly.

What Size Bedding Do I Need for My RV Mattress?

We recommend getting the regular sheet size that corresponds to your mattress; our luxury cooling bed sheets have a 2” elastic band around the fitted sheet edges to keep them in place, so even though the short queen mattress is a tad bit shorter, they'll still fit perfectly. Simply tuck the top sheet in, and you're all set.

Does the GhostBed RV ${ design } Mattress Smell?

Like other high-end memory foam products, there may be a slight smell after you unbox the mattress. The initial smell is similar to a new pack of tennis balls or a new car. It's normal and harmless, and will disappear with time!

Is White Glove Setup Available for the RV Mattress?

At this time we do not offer White Glove Setup for the GhostBed RV${design === 'Hybrid' ? ' Hybrid' : ''}. But don't worry—since it comes in a vacuum-packed box, it's actually pretty easy to move! Just enlist a friend to help you bring the box into your RV.

As soon as you unpack your mattress , it will expand to its normal size. And watch it open—you'll like what you see!

How Long Can I Keep My Mattress Packaged in the Box?

After delivery, you can keep the mattress in the box for up to 6 months. We recommend opening your mattress before then to ensure the best results when expanding it to its proper shape and size.

Is It Ok to Keep the Mattress in My RV Through the Winter or Cold Temperatures?

Yes! We use premium memory foam that's designed to withstand temperature fluctuations without losing quality or performance. Keep in mind that memory foam is temperature‐sensitive, however, so it'll feel a lot firmer if it's very cold. Warmer temperatures will soften it up to its intended feel.

Thanks Lindsay for the awesome review! So thrilled to hear your new GhostBed RV is an absolute dream and you are loving that cloud-like comfort. And even better that your daughter is obsessed too - looks like you may need to order another for her room! We truly appreciate you choosing GhostBed - Marc

I bought this RV King Short Ghostbed in the med/firm hybrid and have thoroughly been impressed.

We both sleep comfortably and wake up rested. Our previous mattress made us so sore and we tossed all night long because of it. Our bed is in the slide and have to curl this mattress back up with tie downs for travel. It’s held up nicely. I’ve gotten used to the weight as it’s a bit hefty but in my mid 50’s, I can manage it on my own. I don’t regret this purchase at all.

Thanks Angel for the review! So happy to hear you are loving your RV Mattress and enjoying this one much better! Thanks for ordering and happy travels - Marc

RV Mattress Sizes

We carry a variety of popular RV mattress sizes.  Each size is made to fit inside an RV or truck.  Because there are so many different RV and trailer floor plans, multiple sizes are manufactured.  It is imperative that due diligence is done prior to deciding on which RV mattress size to order.  Probably the most accurate way to determine which size will work best in an RV is to first measure the base that the mattress will sit on.  Sometimes this is a simple piece of wood, other times it is a full-on foundation.  Using these measurements ensures that the mattress will fully cover the surface of the base as well as fit into the space provided.

Facts about RV Beds

  • The first RV was publicly launched in 1910 with a bed that unfolded from the back seat.
  • Though, cars pulled trailers that featured beds as well.
  • RVs grew popular in the 1950s, but were considered to be a luxury
  • In the 1960s, fold away beds were added to stand-alone campers.
  • The majority of RV use is done in groups of 2-7 people.
  • RV mattresses should be set up off the floor to minimize the chance for moisture.
  • For RV bunk beds, truck mattress sizes are generally required.
  • Factory installed RV mattresses wear out and need replaced, just like a home mattress.
  • A 2017 report indicated 12% of respondents consider RVs essential to camping.
  • The average age of RV owners is 49 years old.
  • Over a million Americans use RVs as their primary home .

RV Mattress Chart

The provided RV mattress chart highlights dimensions of each RV size.  Some standard mattress sizes can be used in an RV, depending on the RV brand and model.  However, there are also some odd-size mattresses that are made specifically for RV utilization.  A good example is the RV Short Queen mattress .  It measures 60”x75” which is different from the longer traditional Queen.  Another unusual size is the three-quarter mattress.  These can actually be 48”x75” or 48”x72” and still be called the same thing.  To get the proper size, take measurements and compare using this RV mattress size chart.

  RV Mattress Sizes Chart

rv california king mattress size

RV California King Mattress Size

(72″ width x 84″ length).

An RV California King mattress is one of the largest available.  If your RV is large enough to accommodate this size bed it can be a very nice size to have.  Camping on hot summer evenings, you’ll appreciate being able to spread out on the 72”x 84” sleep surface.  It’s also a great size if sharing the bed with one or more people.  The RV California King mattress can provide ample leg space for taller travelers as well.  Before choosing an RV California King, keep in mind your available space and floor plan.  Consider whether this size would fit into the space provided and possible challenges with getting the mattress into the allotted space.

With an RV California King, you can spread out and get comfortable.  So, don’t get caught up on the idea of saving a few inches of floor space.  Having a good night’s sleep on the road will be well worth sacrificing a couple inches.

rv king mattress size

RV King Mattress Size

(72″ width x 80″ length).

For the width of the RV California King without the extra legroom, the RV King mattress may be a good choice.  It has the same width of the RV California King but is a little shorter at 72 inches wide and 80 inches long.  Not everyone needs a longer bed and choosing this size instead can save space and your valuable payload.  The reduced weight can make it easier to lift up and access under bed storage compartments.  Maximum capacity of hydraulic lifts is also a thing to acknowledge when looking at the larger size RV mattresses.  Additionally, there are many quality mattresses in this size.  Choosing an RV King may just make you feel right at home.

If the floorplan in your RV or camper can entertain this size, it might be a good one to look at.  We carry this size in soft, medium and firm.   With so many people using RVs as their permanent address, access to quality RV mattresses is more important than ever.

rv short king mattress size

RV Short King Mattress Size

(72″ width x 75″ length).

An even shorter RV King mattress is called the RV Short King.  It maintains the 72 inch width of the previous sizes mentioned, but only measures 75 inches in length.  Something you may have noticed by now is that the sizing for RV mattresses does not mirror that of traditional mattresses.  For example, a traditional king is wider than the RV King or RV Short King .  It would be difficult to wander into a mattress store and find RV mattress sizes on the sales floor.  That is, unless of course the store is located somewhere that sees a good amount of RV traffic.  If your RV fits a traditional mattress size, there are many more options.  For specific RV sizes, we have you covered!

An RV Short king mattress is sufficient in width and for most people in length as well.  It adds plentiful surface space for sleep without impeding the walk around area.  The RV Short King size is a comparable alternative to larger bed sizes.

rv eastern king mattress size

Eastern King Mattress Size

(76″ width x 80″ length).

The Eastern King is another option for use in some recreational vehicles.  It is wider than the afore mentioned RV mattress sizes and has the same long length of the RV King.  This 76”x80” mattress is a fairly uncommon size.  Most retailers won’t have this size.  However, Rest Right Mattress has a wide array of mattress sizes and we even offer custom sizes!  This is a great size for the big and tall adventurer or for tall couples.  Many times, this is a good mattress replacement for initial RV mattresses which may be too small or utterly uncomfortable.  Upgrade your RV sleep by choosing breathable bedding and making sure the bed foundation is level.

For the widest RV mattress, pick the Eastern King.  If you do opt for this size take note that weight may be an issue to consider.  Choosing this size in a thinner mattress could be a good solution.  Plus, low-profile mattresses tend to work well in RVs where height is also a concern.

rv olympic queen mattress size

Olympic Queen Mattress Size

(66″ width x 80″ length).

One of the most popular choices for RV mattresses is the Olympic Queen.  This mattress measures 66 inches wide and 80 inches long.  It welcomes tall passengers, couples and more.  Our selection of Olympic Queen mattresses includes memory foam or hybrid options.  These come in 12-inch thickness.  How thick a mattress is can affect its support and comfort.  When we reference RV mattresses, that thickness also comes into play in regards to spatial availability.  If a mattress is too thick you may find your face uncomfortably close to overhead cabinets for instance.  If it is too thin, there may not be enough quality materials inside to encourage quality sleep.

More often than not, people who use RVs travel in small groups.  That means, there is a high likelihood you’ll end up sharing your RV bed.  An Olympic Queen mattress is large enough to share but small enough to fit in many campers.

rv queen mattress size

RV Queen Mattress Size

(60″ width x 80″ length).

While most RV mattress sizes have different dimensions than classic mattresses, the RV Queen and traditional Queen are the exception.  Both are 60” x 80” and available in all sorts of mattress types.  Memory foam is a pretty good option for RV use because it is lightweight and can be fairly inexpensive.  It is also flexible, so it’s much easier to get into an RV and moveable around corners.  RV mattresses do undergo some temperature extremes so that should also be taken into account when deciding which type of mattress to use.  Because your RV mattress endures repeated temperature changes and aggressive use, it may wear out faster.  So, be sure to pick out a quality mattress that’s up to the job.

As the RV Queen and Classic Queen have the exact same dimensions, they are pretty much interchangeable.  A mattress doesn’t have to be labeled “RV Queen” to be used in a trailer.  That’s good news as you have many options to choose from in nearly every price point.

rv short queen mattress size

RV Short Queen Mattress Size

(60″ width x 75″ length).

The RV Short Queen mattress is just five inches shorter than the RV Queen.  It comes in at 60” wide and 75” long.  The floor plan on some RVs won’t accommodate a longer bed.  This size maximizes space while still being large enough for a couple people or a single sleeper with a pet.  It is actually quite often used in studio apartments and homes with modest size bedrooms.  Most people won’t notice the missing inches in length but this one is definitely not made for taller individuals.  A benefit of choosing an RV Short Queen mattress is that it is easily flipped and aired.  Doing this can elongate the life of your RV mattress.

Odd sized mattresses require specific bed sheets.  While the flat sheet or comforter don’t have to match up perfectly, the fitted sheet should.  These can sometimes be difficult to find.  Lucky for you, we offer RV Short Queen mattresses and the sheets to fit them!

rv full mattress size

RV Full Mattress Size

(53″ width x 75″ length).

Due to the gross weight limitations of an RV, smaller RV mattress sizes are common.  The RV Full is almost the same size as a traditional Full-size bed.  It is 53”x75” which can possibly fit two sleepers.  However, for full-time RVing, two people probably won’t be comfortable in this size night after night.  The smaller size does have its advantages.  First, a smaller bed might give the illusion of a larger room.  That can go far when maneuvering around in a tight space.  Second, once again the load is lighter making it much easier to move if necessary.  Lastly, a smaller bed be a good excuse to have it all to yourself!

The most important part of selecting a mattress for your RV is getting the correct size.  Measure the location in which the bed will be placed.  If possible, measure the mattress that will be replaced as well.  Then, if an RV Full mattress fits, go for it!

three quarter mattress size

Three Quarter Mattress Size

(48″ width x 75″ length).

Another smaller size RV mattress is the Three-Quarter size.  This mattress is sometimes called an Antique bed.  At 48” wide, it is primarily used for a single sleeper at a time.  It is 75 inches long though so that person can be somewhat taller.  The Kingship Comfort Three-Quarter mattress options that we carry are 8 inches thick and made in the USA.  Though a slimmer mattress, these are comprised of some quality mattress materials.  For example, it has superior gel memory foam that is meant to keep you cool during the dog days of summer.  A clear upgrade from the 1.5” sleep pad type mattresses sometimes seen as standard in motor homes.  This RV mattress size can be good for RVs that may be close to maxing out their payload capacity.

RV mattresses can be used in campervans, pop-up campers, fifth wheel trailers, motorhomes or truck campers.  Which size you choose is almost completely dependent on the allotted space.  Once you know what will fit, you can explore mattress types and determine a budget.

rv bunk mattress size

RV Bunk Mattress Size

(42″ width x 80″ length).

If you find that an RV bunk mattress is the right size for you, we have those too.  This size is 42” wide and 80” long.  Bunks tend to be much narrower than the other beds in an RV.  This size mattress may be used in an overhead bunk or bunkhouse of a Class C motorhome.  This size can also be used in bunk beds, collapsible bunks or fold away bunks.  Nearly every type of RV can house a bunk of some sort.  However, recall that not all sizes will match up because there is no standard RV mattress sizing grid.  The only way to know for sure that you need this particular size for your “bunk” is by measuring!

RV Bunk mattresses are a little wider than the traditional Twin XL but the same in length.  This size is acceptable for a child or a single adult sleeper.  RV Bunk mattresses also come in customizable sizes. Learn more below!

Customized RV Bunk Mattress Sizes

rv twin mattress size

RV Twin Mattress Size

(30″ width x 72″ length) – (30″ width x 80″ length).

Some floorplans in an RV call for an RV Twin mattress.  Rather than offering a single set of dimensions, the RV Twin encompasses three mattress sizes.  All three of these narrow twin mattresses have a 30-inch width.  The lengths are what differs between them.  The longest measures 30”x80” which is suitable for a tall adult.  The shortest is 30”x72”, more appropriate for a child or an adult who is short in stature.  The third RV Twin is 30 inches wide and 75 inches long.  An RV Twin can refer to any of these sizes, which makes knowing the exact measurements a must.

RV Twin mattresses can come in latex, memory foam or hybrid styles.  When used in an RV, usually a height of 6 or 8 inches is selected.  However, the RV Twin can be up to 12 inches thick.  These come in comfort levels of soft, medium or firm.

How to measure cutout on a rv mattress

How to Measure Cutout Corner on a RV Mattress

Sometimes on RVs, mattresses will have layouts with rounded wall hugging beds. This can limit your mattress options. We have the capability to do mattress cutouts for you if necessary. You will need to measure the radius corner and provide those measurements upon purchase. Measuring the radius corner is easily done. There are a few ways to do it. We recommend that you do it more than one way just to verify it was done correctly.

Measure Radius Corner of Mattress with Carpenter Square

A carpenter’s square, or builder’s square, is a L-shaped tool that measures right angles. When measuring the radius corner, you simply place the tool up against the corner of the mattress. You should get two measurements from the square, from the corner of the carpenter’s square to the mattress side on each side. These measurements should be the same on both sides.

• Place carpenter square at corner of the curved mattress corner. • Measure the distance from the corner of the tool to where it touches the mattress side. • Verify the measurement is the same on both sides.

Measure Radius Corner Using Intersecting Rulers

A tape measure or ruler can be used to measure the radius corner as well. Facing the ruler upward, line up the inside corner of the ruler with the point in the mattress side that the curve begins. Do the same on the other side. Keep the rulers parallel to the other side and view the point on the ruler in which they cross. This will be the measurement of the radius corner.

• Place one ruler face up vertically with inside point of ruler edge touching the place mattress curve begins. • Place a second ruler horizontally with inside point of ruler edge touching the place mattress curve begins. • Measure the distance from the mattress side to where the rulers intersect.

Measure Radius Corner Using Rulers at the Edge

Another way to utilize rulers to verify your measurements is to line one ruler along each edge. Then, move them towards the corner until they meet. Make sure the rulers are both flush along the side of the mattress. The distance from the corner to the mattress side is the measurement. Once again, this should be the same on both rulers.

• Align ruler face up alongside one side of mattress. • Repeat with the other side that shares one corner. • Slide rulers to the corner edge until they meet. • Measure the length from the point where rulers meet until it touches each mattress side.

How Should You Pick the Right RV Mattress Size?

There are many different mattress sizes for RVs. You need to use the correct mattress size for the RV. One of the considerations you should consider is the size; if the mattress has a corner cut out, thus it has a storage hinge, and many other vital factors. We have highlighted the most critical factors you should consider when buying the correct mattress for the RV.

  • Size: The size of the RV mattress is an essential factor since every RV mattress differs from others. You must know the measurement of the length and the width of the mattress. Before buying the mattress, one should measure it to make sure you buy the correct size because, for example, a queen RV mattress can measure 60 inches by 80 inches or 60 inches by 75 inches.
  • Hinge: Some RV mattresses will have hinges for storage underneath the bed. It is essential to measure the width and the length of the hinge so that the manufacturer can make the right hinge length and width of the mattress along with the correct size.
  • Corner cutout: Some of the RV mattresses have triangular or round edges. Using the correct corner cutout of the RV mattress before you buy is very important.

Our Thoughts Based on Finding the Right RV Mattress Size

Based on our experience and the feedback of the customers, there are many different sizes of the RV mattress sizes. First, the customers will require to know the measurement of the width and the length of the RV mattress. It is good to know the size, but the correct size is essential since different RV mattress sizes can share the same name but with different sizes. Some examples are; the RV king mattress and RV queen mattress sizes. There are several sizes of RV king mattresses and RV queen mattresses sizes. The customers need to know if there is a hinge or corner cutout. Based on customer feedback, only a few customers will require a hinge or corner cutout in RVs mattress. But some customers will choose these options of RVs before buying the RV mattress sizes.

RV mattress size: how big is an RV bed?

We explain how to find the right sized mattresses for your RV

With an RV (recreational vehicle), you can enjoy having your own personal living space and the freedom of the road. But if you're spending several hours driving on a long journey, it's important to get a good night's sleep. So it pays to buy the best RV mattress you can afford, and part of that is choosing the correct size.

RV beds tend to have different measurements to standard bed sizes, in order to make the best use of limited space. And these vary a lot from vehicle to vehicle. So before you shop for RV mattresses, you need to carefully measure the beds inside your RV. Then compare your measurements to the table below, to find out which standard RV mattress size you need.

Although some of the models in our best mattress guide are available in RV sizing, it's not quite as straightforward as shopping for the best queen size mattress , for example. When you shop for your RV mattress, don't just assume the retailer you're buying from follows the standard sizes we detail below. They should, but in practice not everybody does, so always read the measurements of the mattress in the small print to make sure.

What are the dimensions of an RV bunk bed?

An RV bunk bed is between 28 and 35 inches wide and between 75 and 80 inches long (approximately 71-89cm wide and 190-203cm long).

How big is an RV bunk bed?

Bunk beds are the smallest size you'll find in an RV, and only fit one person. That said, they vary quite a bit in size, so there's not one standard size for an RV bunk mattress but a range of them. The width will generally vary between 28 and 35 inches wide and the length will generally land somewhere between 75 and 80 inches. So it's vital to measure your bunk bed carefully, and check that they match the retailer's stated size for each individual mattress.

What are the dimensions of an RV full bed?

An RV full bed is between 53 and 55 inches wide and 75 inches long (approximately 71-89cm wide and 190cm long).

How big is an RV full bed?

The RV full is the smallest bed size in an RV that will fit two people, although they're also good for single people who want to stretch out a little. The standard length of an RV full mattress is 75 inches. However, there's no single, standard width: it can be either 53, 54 or 55 inches wide. (Note that a normal full bed size is 54 x 75 inches). So it's important to measure your RV bed carefully and compare it to the stated measurements of the mattress before buying.

What are the dimensions of a three-quarter bed?

A three-quarter bed is between 75 and 80 inches long and 48 inches wide (approximately 190-203cm long and 122cm wide).

RV parked on a road in a dramatic landscape

How big is a three-quarter bed?

A three-quarter mattress is narrower than a full, so couples will have to snuggle up a little closer. The standard width of an three-quarter mattress is 48 inches.
