Additional options
Some extras we can add or include in your Shetland adventure
Wild Swimming
Have you ever wanted to swim in the wild at 60 Degrees North? Lots of people do, and Shetland has loads of wonderful swimming locations.
This is a great way to get in touch with nature, and its no wonder it is one of the fastest growing outdoor pursuits in Britain!
Wild Camping
We are also delighted to be able to offer Wild Camping as part of your Shetland adventure.
What better way to completely immerse yourself in our wild landscape than by spending nights under the stars? We can't think of many better than camping out in a spectacular and remote area!
Aquatic Adventures
Coming soon! - Restrictions pending
We hope anyway, that Adventure Shetland will soon be able to take to the water and explore the islands in the way our forefathers did.
Seeing Shetland from the sea gives a completely different perspective from the land, and we'd like to show you the best of both worlds.
All tours are subject to the T&Cs outlined below
Some Highlights
A long hike over the hills of Shetland's north mainland leads to stunning views across the sandbar and the island of Uyea itself. A short scramble down the cliffs and - Paradise!
Either a day trip to look at the famous broch and seals, or at night to see the Storm Petrels, Mousa is always worth the journey. A short boat trip is required to reach the island.
Jarlshof and Sumburgh
The island of Unst is famous for its Vikings, nature reserves, and for being Britain's most northerly everything, and so much more, with beaches, hill walking and archaeology galore.
Shetland's most famous archaeological site is a must, and there are lots of other places to see nearby, puffins and the lighthouse at Sumburgh Head, Old Scatness Broch, and more.
Shetland Ponies
Shetland's diminutive equine residents have a unique charm all their own. If Shetland Ponies are your thing, we can facilitate that wish, with arranged, or 'wild' encounters.
A former fishing station might not sound like everyone's cup of tea, but there's a lot more to Fethaland than meets the eye. Stunning cliffs, a small lighthouse, and even a Viking age quarry.
The Lang Ayre
St ninian's isle.
A hike over Ronas Hill (Shetland's highest at 450m) leads to the stunning Lang Ayre. A mile long, unspoiled pebble beach, with beautiful clear waters and dramatic cliffs
Shetland's most famous stretch of sand links the Isle to the mainland. The Isle itself boasts a ruined chapel where Pictish silver treasure was discovered in 1959
Eshaness Cliffs
The cliffs at Eshaness are among Shetland's most photographed (as featured above) however there are are less well known gems to be found, such as the Grind o da Navir
Culswick Broch
Tucked away on the west side lies the Culswick broch. On top of a prominent hill overlooking the Atlantic, the broch requires a causeway crossing to access - a unique adventure
The Pink Pool
The Pink Pool is the very definition of a hidden gem, in the south mainland. Sitting directly below a natural arch, algae in the water gives the pool bright pink hue in the summer months.
Breckon Sands
Another stunning shell sand beach, on the northern island of Yell. With a scientifically important dune complex, Breckon is an undervisited highlight in the North Isles.
Further Information
We endeavour to make your Shetland adventure as enjoyable and safe an experience as possible. However, in order to make this easier, there are a few things we ask of you in return.
The weather in Shetland can be extremely changeable, even in the summer, so it is vital to wear good outdoor clothing and stout footwear. We have a saying in the islands - "It's better to hae it as want it!" - essentially saying its better to be over provisioned than under. You can always take layers off, and there's nothing more miserable than being cold and wet, and we don't want to have to cut your adventure short on account of the wrong clothing for the conditions.
Depending on the tour locations, there is a high chance of encountering rough, rocky and uneven ground, and on the other hand boggy wet conditions, often on the same walk or hike. As a result, its important to wear the right footwear as mentioned above. However, it is also important to stay with your guide and not wander off. We don't want to be calling emergency services to remote areas because someone has wandered off and become stuck, lost or hurt.
On some tours it will be possible to visit a local cafe or restaurant for food, however for more remote locations this will not always be practical, so you will need to provide your own. This will be made clear at the time of booking however, and your guide will check you have enough food and water with you prior to your tour departure.
Any other issues or technical considerations will be discussed in the confirmation email from your guide during the booking process.
As all tours are conducted on a bespoke basis, we cannot provide standard pricing. Tour prices will vary from tour to tour depending on location and requirements, and will be discussed with you during the booking process.
All ferry fares, entry fees etc. will be included within the costs of the tour, should any such charges be applicable.
Deposit and Cancellations:
Due to an increasing number of no-shows, all bookings require a 50% deposit to be paid. This will be refunded should Adventure Shetland cancel your tour for any reason, or in circumstances beyond reasonable control (cruise ships not docking due to weather, etc).
The remaining balance must be paid in cash or by bank transfer by the end of your tour.
All tour bookings are subject to these conditions
