I saw them play at the Starlite Room in Edmonton which is a small, slightly sketchy venue downtown that I personally love. It holds about 300 people probably. My best friend and I got there to wait outside in line about 7 hours before doors opened to guarantee that we got close to the stage, which we did. But the whole time we were waiting, all of the band members were walking in and out of the front doors, or they would linger around the venue. At one point I ran to the Tim Hortons down the street to grab something to eat, and I was behind George.. Like it was insane.

But anyways , the show.

My friends and I were in the front left of the stage. And at Starlite, they have no barriers so you're pressed right up against the stage. Sirsly came on first, which I hadn't heard of them before the show. They did an incredible job opening the show. Next was Bad Suns, which I left the show being a huge fan of them. They have the perfect young alternative rock feel. They did a wonderful job connecting to the crowd and their whole set just flew by. I was lucky enough to meet them after the show to chat with and they were such lovely guys. And next was the 1975. The word to describe how great of a show these guys put on is something beyond my vocabulary. They are edgy, raunchy, loud and extreme. I have always fancied the lead singer Matt Healy, and he knows just how to work the crowd. He loves to tease, chat and just flaunt himself at everyone. There was no equipment set up in front of my friends and I, so we had lots of opportunities where the band members would come right up to us. A moment that was a highlight for me was during Talk! Matty knelt down grabbed my hand and sang the line, "I've been thinking lots about your mouth.' It was a big deal for me. HAHAHA. But I could honestly write for hours about these guys. Their connection with everyone was undeniable. I'd say my favourite song to see like was probably "Sex". Its the last song they performed and Matty introduced it saying, "this song is about fucking each other." But its incredible to see live where everyone knows all the words and just goes insane, including the band.

Then after the show, the band came out and met every single person who waited. It was magical. Matt was the first to come out and because of how calm he was, the crowd literally waited in close to silence. No screaming or fan-girling. It was sweet to see him take his time with every single fan. He gave everyone hugs and listened to everything they had to say. I explained to him how much the bands music meant to me personally and he gave me three hugs and seemed so gracious to hear everything I had to say. Honestly, he is an angel. I didn't have the chance to meet the members sadly but next time i guess.

Anyways, never pass up an opportunity to see these guys... ever. Its been almost 2 1/2 months and the post concert depression is stronger than ever.

My first concert. My favourite band.

Belsonic music festival is an intimate venue so I was in touching distance of the foursome. As the intro played in, the crowd erupted as we caught the first sight of Ross (bass guitar), followed by George (drums), Matty (vocals) and finally Adam (rhythm guitar). The boys filed on to 'Love Me' and got the party started. Favourites from both albums followed such as 'A Change of Heart' and 'Menswear'.

As the sky began to darken Matty decided it was time to address the audience, cigarette in hand. Stating he loved Belfast and reminiscing about the time they first played Belfast to only 25 people, I could hear loyal fans shouting, "we were there! We were there!" Matty continued to talk about the world and how a 'revolution' was imminent, saying that it looked a lot more "emo these days". I tried to capture his little speech on my phone like many others, when Matty told us all to put our phones down for one minute, telling us we would "enjoy the next ten minutes much more than if it was on our iPhone." The sea of people dropped their devices (me included) and swayed to the transcendent sound of 'Me'.

The second half of the show was truly electric with a rainbow flashing on stage to 'Loving Someone' as two shared a kiss to my left. Then came the ever a party starter 'Girls' and 'She's American'. The true spectacle of the night was 'Sex' however, a light show in its own right, and a religious experience.

Finishing their set the crowd chanted, "one more song! One more song!" The guys obliged and then some, coming back out to play three scintillating tracks: the hymn - like 'If I Believe You', the classic 'Chocolate' and banging 'The Sound'.

The 1975 are a band that not only perform with such energy track after track, but put on an impressive light show and with a prophetic front man foretelling the future, I would recommend anyone witness their excellence for themselves.

Well lets just say this: They rocked it but it didn't start out that way.

First let me say that I am 51 and have been going to live shows, big and small, for 35 years. So, I saw Depeche Mode way back in the day and this show felt very much like what I saw back in the 80's. For you younger ones, and The1975 fans, you will really enjoy it but for the first half of the show, I felt like I was watching Depeche.

The "show" and set are really cool. I have never seen any light show like that before but the problem was that the entire band basically stayed in place and left the "entertaining" part to the lead singer. I have no problem with that but I felt sorry for him as this was their first time in Red Rocks and for those of you who don't know, while it is an amazing venue, it is pretty hight in altitude and every band that comes through complains about not being able to breath. You could see that it was a struggle but he was still awesome and pulled it off.

The sound was great! The band was very tight and way better than what I saw on SNL. I am not a huge fan of their new stuff because I became a huge fan back in 2014 when I saw them at a small club in San Diego. But the new stuff was still good and it made the end great because they finally got to the rocking out.

The opening acts, The Japanese House and Wolf Alice were really good opening act and Wolf Alice now has a new fan in me.

To sum it up, they did a good job headlining and it was totally worth the time and money but unless you are a The1975 fan, you may feel wanting during the first half. Make sure you stay for the end!

The 1975 was amazing live. I've been to several concerts and I can easily say that this concert was one of the best ones I've ever been to. I love their music. I think they're a very unique and talented band, and it amazes me how the different instruments and sounds blend together perfectly to create a beautiful song telling a beautiful story.

Matty Healy was the one who mainly talked to us, and the things he did on stage were incredible. There were beautiful moments such as during a song called "Me", he asked everyone to put their phones away and just enjoy the music, and then during the second half of the song, he asked everyone to turn the flashlight on on their phone, and wave it in the air to the song. It was such a beautiful sight.

At some point in the concert, he kindly asked everyone to take a step back because the people in front were getting squashed. He also went backstage for a while to get water for the people in the audience who were dying of thirst. He also said some funny things such as "the weather does horrible things to my hair". I just think that Matty is such a genuine, kind and great man.

Apart from Matty's great character, the music was really good, and all 4 band members put on an amazing show. There were more upbeat tracks such as "Girls" and "Sex" which got everyone pumped and dancing, interchanged with groovy instrumentals and slow, sad songs such as "Fallingforyou" and "Me" which touched the audience. Great music, great band, and great live.

The 1975 is one band you definitely should catch live.

This concert was certainly a shock.

I had seen the 1975 about a year ago at Ally Pally and although that was a good concert, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would and that meant that I didn't have high hopes to see them again this time.

However I was proved wrong.

The concert was absolutely awesome! Travel to the venue was straightforward and not too busy for starters and waiting in the cold for 2 hours was not as cold as I had feared. I was standing and although I wasn't that close to them, the venue had a slanted floor, so the combination of this and my highest heels allowed for a good view.

Everyone there tended to be the same age as me or older, that is over seventeen, and I felt that this added to the experience as we were all as excited and into the music as each other.

There was some moshing and although I tried to avoid it at first, I joined the pit during "Sex" and that was definitely the right choice; although it was very violent and fast and probably dangerous, it was loads of fun and got me into the music and got me right to the front!

The boys' playing was just brilliant, they really made us all get completely hypnotised by the music and they played some of their new album which sounded great. Matty looked really fit and shoutout to the guy on the sax, he was absolutely wicked!

They were just brilliant so as soon as I got home I bought a ticket to see them again in March hahaha. Definitely recommend!

The 1975's Melbourne show was insanely energetic even though Matty was apparently not feeling 100%. You wouldn't have known that he'd tweeted the night before apologising for being sick and mentioning that People might be dropped off the setlist due to his voice not being able to cope. Luckily, it was not dropped and proved an amazing opening song to get everyone up and dancing. There were three songs which really stood out over the course of the show: firstly, Love It If We Made It. It was apt that the climate strike had taken place the actual day that the Melbourne show was on, so Matty took it upon himself to do a little spiel about climate change which was (as usual) inspiring. The song itself was full of energy and great staging. Love Me sounded much better live than in studio which was a surprise for me! Finally, Sex was absolutely fantastic: everyone was screaming every word and Matty jumping up and down on stage. My only issue was that Girls was taken off the setlist which is understandable seeing as they're probably sick to death of playing it but I think they owe it to everyone to play their classics like Girls (Arctic Monkeys would never drop Do I Wanna Know despite Alex constantly complaining about how he's sick of it nor would Green Day drop American Idiot!). Genuinely an 8.5/10 and a fantastic night. (Matty in the pleated skirt was also a highlight!!!)

I attended the 1975 concert at LC Pavilion in Columbus, OH. This is a great venue that is standing room only. The pit at the front of the stage is always crowded and filled with fans ready for a good show. 1975 delivered!! The guys used the stage and interacted well with the crowd. They got everyone involved and singing along. They were all dressed in black pants and various black shirts. They used a nice back drop of the single lighted rectangle from the album art. The stage lighting was great and they used lots of smoke along with the lights to really highlight the band members.

They opened with The City which was truly awesome, they played a long intro to it to get the crowd really riled up! At one point they had the crowd hold up all their cell phones like lighters, it seemed like a special moment for them and they appreciated the large crowd in attendance. The highlight of the show was definitely their current hit song Chocolate.

Set list included, Milk, M.O.N.E.Y., So Far (It's Alright), Talk, She Way Out, Settle Down, Heart Out, Me, fallingforyou, You, Girls, Robbers, and Sex. Overall a great show and one of the better live shows I have seen.

From Vancouver, BC. PNE Forum May 1, 2017.

First opening band was Colouring, and I have to give them kudos for a job well done! I might be searching for their tunes. Second opening band instrumentals and music were good, but I was not a fan of the vocals.

On to The 1975: THANK YOU for an INCREDIBLE SHOW! The light show was AMAZING! STILL the best I have EVER seen! Matty kept all his attire on, lit up, and I swear there was a bottle of beer and a couple of wine glasses on stage. He danced on the piano and beckoned the sexy sax player. Mesmerizing. Merch was stocked! Unfortunately they did not carry the rose gold necklace I wanted. Set list was a mix of both albums and Medicine. He played 'Me' after kindly asking to put our phones away. Live in the moment for a memory no one else needs to know. Also played 'Robbers' after mentioning he'd never play it again, but they'll play it anyway. I was surprised how ok the acoustics were in the cement building of the PNE Forum. My friend and I had a tonne of fun! If you want a band that can give hot, steamy, sultry sex to your eyes and ears, see this band. MUSIC FOR CARS 2018!!!!

I have been a huge fan since their debut album, and last night got to see The 1975(first time) at the LC Pavilion in Columbus Ohio.Swim Deep opened for them and there was much anticipation and waiting for The 1975 to come on stage. There was a sensual smoky sound then the lights turned out and BOOM! They came out and killed the show with "Love Me". I'm 35 and I was sweating, singing, yelling and had the time of my life at this concert.Thier music is something special my 17 year old daughter and I share the same love for. Every damn song was phenomenal with the lights and screens.Matty interacted with the crowd throughout the night while sipping his wine. The long line outside, the standing was worth it in the end. Everyone loves The 1975, all ages and backgrounds it was exhilarating singing to all the songs with the crowd. They put on such an mind blowing show beginning to end. You can definitely feel the love.I can't wait for the new album, and the 2016 tour. When I listen to them I get lost in my feelings with thier atmospheric, sexy vibe. Great show from my favorite guys.

Starting with the opening act, it was really good DJ set.

The 1975 is band you shouldn't miss live. Really energetic even during slow songs. They're perfect live, as if you were listening to the album but with an extra vibe.

For this tour they have huge led screens everywhere with great graphics setting up the mood which is awesome and not usual as some bands do have led screens alternating graphics and live shots of themselves.

In one point of the concert I guess in one side of the Golden Circle people started pushing too hard against the barricade and Matt (front man) told them to hush and move two steps backwards, i guess there were some girls in trouble because he kept asking if someone was ok. He really cares about the fans, most artist would've let security handle it as they watched horrified.

This is one of my favorites bands and for sure they're awesome! So if you know too little this guy's go ahead and listen to more songs and watch videos and if they're coming on tour somewhere near you go see them live ;)

‘Still… At Their Very Best’, Matty Healy and co aren’t slowing down any time soon

Amy Houghton

In many ways, this summer belonged to The 1975. The band headlined Reading and Leeds last weekend in place of Lewis Capaldi and whether it was dating Taylor Swift , making problematic comments about Ice Spice or kissing a fellow bandmate in protest of anti-gay laws in Malaysia, frontman Matty Healy has kept the band in the spotlight.

The 1975 have also been continuing their ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ tour (named because the band apparently now has their ‘shit sorted’). And this week Healy announced that there would be even more dates for the UK and Europe in 2024. It’s been a eventful summer on the road for Healy and the gang, with the band potentially facing a potential $2.7 million fine over Healy’s same-sex on-stage kiss at a show in Malaysia — during which he criticized the country’s anti-LGBTQ laws — which led to the group cancelling shows in Indonesia and Taiwan following the controversy. There was also a brief, rumored dalliance with Taylor Swift, that time Healy kissed a security guard in Denmark and a not-pology to rapper Ice Spice over insensitive remarks the singer made during a podcast.

The shows are likely to conclude the band's 'being funny in a foreign language' cycle.

By Emma Wilkes

1975 tour england

The 1975 have announced the UK and Europe leg of their ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ tour for early 2024.

The band will be playing five dates in the UK, including two nights at London’s O2 Arena, in February 2024. Following these, they will then be heading to Europe for a run of some of their biggest shows out there to date, lasting until the end of March.

It has been confirmed that these will be the final shows of the cycle for their 2022 album Being Funny In A Foreign Language . A leaked DM reportedly sent by their label Dirty Hit’s head Jamie Oborne circulated on the internet earlier this week, in which it was suggested these could be The 1975’s last tour dates “for a few years”.

Tickets will be available via Exclusive Fan pre-sale on Wednesday, September 6, before going on general sale on Friday, September 8.

The 1975 ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ UK & Europe 2024 Tour Dates:

Meanwhile, The 1975 are set to kick off the North American leg of the ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ tour next month, which will last until December and includes two back-to-back sold-out shows at New York’s famous Madison Square Garden.

The band headlined Reading and Leeds for the third time in four years at the weekend and filled in for Lewis Capaldi by playing their 2013 self-titled debut in full for its 10th anniversary.

Reviewing the first night of their UK tour earlier this year, Rolling Stone UK described it as “ a game-changing arena show for the ages “.

The 'Still...At Their Very Best' tour sees the Matty Healy-fronted band play across North America and Canada this autumn - with sold out shows scheduled for the Hollywood Bowl, LA, and two back-to-back sell-outs at Madison Square Garden, New York. The 1975 will then return to the UK to kick off the next leg in February - playing all the way through March in Europe.

The band's last tour, entitled 'At Their Very Best' saw the 1975 tour USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia across a nine-month span - selling an incredible 500,000 plus tickets. High concept performance art and surprise appearances from friends made a name for the tour, with fans lauding it as the band in their prime.

And the new 'Still...At Their Very Best' tour promises to raise standards higher still.

Over the course of the last decade, The 1975 have firmly made a name for themselves as one of the biggest bands of the current generation - through distinctive aesthetic, sonic approach and ambient nature. Release in October last year, the band's fifth studio album 'Being Funny In A Foreign Language' was met with heaps of praise.

The FACE, labelled it: "A n album of massive tunes, pristine production and sincere romanticism," while Rolling Stone said it saw The 1975: "R eassert themselves at the forefront of 2020s pop-rock." It outsold the rest of the UK's Top Five to land the band their fifth consecutive Number One Album - and the band were also crowned 'Best Rock/Alternative Act' at this year's Brit Awards.

The 1975 are back at, by their own admission, their very best.

The influential pop-rock group, comprising Matty Healy, George Daniel, Adam Hann and Ross MacDonald, are taking their 2022 Number 1 album Being Funny In A Foreign Language on tour across the UK and Ireland this summer.

Their fifth-consecutive Number 1 LP in the UK, Being Funny In A Foreign Language saw Matty and co. team up with producer du jour Jack Antonoff for a body of work that sticks to the band's core '80s-inspired sound, deepening it in interesting new directions.

It seems like you're in for a real treat each night at the tour too, with Matty's performances frequently going viral. What will he do this time? Kiss a fan? Maybe eat some raw meat again? Bring out Taylor Swift again?

Always keeping us on our toes, that one.

Bob Dylan was washed up and irrelevant – then one electrifying tour saved his career

Bob dylan was teetering on insignificance when he finally returned to the road in 1974 with the band, who were in the throes of their own turmoil at the time. that tour saved both their careers, writes stevie chick , and cemented the tambourine man’s place in music history, article bookmarked.

B ob Dylan ’s “Never Ending Tour” began in 1988, and – save for a pandemic-enforced break in 2020, after which it was renamed the “Rough And Rowdy Ways World Wide Tour” – has trundled onwards for 36 years, with no sign of stopping. Indeed, his Bobness will have performed 52 shows this year alone come December.

But while this is an impressive feat for an 83-year-old, the content of these shows divides opinion: some nights offer searing revisits of classics like “Desolation Row” or “Don’t Think Twice” ; on others, Dylan rearranges his career-defining songs to the point where even seasoned Bob-watchers can’t recognise them. “Fans who come to hear live-action reenactments of the favourite records of their youth tend to be disappointed,” The New Yorker ’s Alex Ross observed as far back as 1999. Perhaps Dylan has grown tired of playing his biggest hits: familiarity, after all, breeds contempt.

It wasn’t always this way. The 1974 Live Recordings , a mammoth new 27-disc box set, transports listeners back half a century, presenting a very different Bob Dylan: younger, leaner, and perhaps more than a little desperate. Back then, he had recently parted ways with both longtime manager Albert Grossman and longtime label Columbia Records, which had signed him a dozen years earlier when he was just another folkie haunting Greenwich Village coffee houses. He’d only performed onstage a handful of times since his notorious 1966 motorcycle accident, favouring domestic life with his wife Sara and their four children.

His last album of new material, the soundtrack to Peckinpah western Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid (in which he also starred), had been accused by critics of “wilful badness”, with Rolling Stone ’s Jon Landau declaring Dylan “the least significant” rock figure of the Seventies. It seems unthinkable now, but in 1973 Dylan seemed washed-up and in danger of becoming yesterday’s man.

Salvation came in the form of David Geffen, one of the most transformative figures of the Seventies music industry, who offered him a contract with his new record label, Asylum. Geffen expected Dylan to sing for his supper, however – even he couldn’t revitalise the Tambourine Man’s career if the Tambourine Man wasn’t willing to tour.

A chance meeting with guitarist Robbie Robertson in the summer of 1973 was the final nudge that sent Dylan back on the road. They shared a long history – Robertson’s garage-band The Hawks had backed Dylan on his controversial “electric” tour eight years earlier. Those shows in 1965, when earnest folkies screamed “Judas!” as Bob played rock’n’roll, cemented Dylan as a cultural phenomenon and generational figurehead – but, as he later told Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner, the pressures of the road “wore me down… I was on drugs, just to keep going”.

After his motorcycle crash in 1966, two months after his world tour ended with a headline show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Dylan retreated to Woodstock in upstate New York. The former Hawks followed and in the basement of an ugly old house they’d rented and christened “Big Pink”, they jammed together with Dylan on covers, standards, folk songs, and new music of their own.

Outside the walls of Big Pink, the world was turning on and tuning in to the summer of love – but in the basement, they were tapping into rock’n’roll’s roots, into country and folk traditions. These sessions at Big Pink shaped what became Dylan’s next musical evolution, evidenced by the acclaimed, country-influenced albums John Wesley Harding (1967) and Nashville Skyline (1969).

Robertson and the ex-Hawks, meanwhile, renamed themselves “ The Band ”. Four Canadians – Robertson, bassist/vocalist Rick Danko, keyboardist Garth Hudson and pianist/vocalist Richard Manuel – and one American (drummer/vocalist Levon Helm), their unique vision of Americana blossomed on homespun, deeply soulful albums like 1968’s Music From Big Pink and 1969’s The Band .

But by 1973, The Band were lost amid their own turmoil. Though still a reliably thrilling stage act, that life was killing them via exhaustion, drug abuse and Manuel’s alcoholism. Robertson, their chief songwriter, was also navigating a debilitating writer’s block.

The Band needed redemption as badly as Dylan, and all involved hoped renewing their working relationship might invite lightning to strike once more. They entered LA’s Village Recorders in November 1973 and taped Dylan’s 14th album Planet Waves – his first for Asylum – over a whirlwind three days. It would prove Dylan’s best-received album in years, and “Forever Young”, written about his children, remains one of his most loved songs. Still, despite the album’s success, everyone knew that the road was where Dylan would truly affirm his renaissance.

The world of the rock’n’roll concert had changed immeasurably since Dylan had quit eight years earlier. It was now a sleek, multi-million-dollar industry, and new technology finally ensured musicians could be heard over screaming fandom. Geffen, Dylan and The Band hooked up with the hippy era’s premier impresario, Bill Graham, to book the 40-date jaunt across sports arenas across the US and Canada. Tickets were priced between $6 and $9.50 ($39-$60 in 2024 money – someone tell Oasis) and available only through mail-order. Demand overwhelmed the US Mail postal service and easily outpaced supply – over 20 million applied for 651,000 tickets – and the tour quickly became the highest-grossing at that point in history.

The tour began on 3 January 1974 at Chicago Stadium, with Dylan pleasing his die-hard fans by opening with “Hero Blues”, an obscurio he’d demoed in 1963 but wouldn’t release until 2010. Soon after, the performers established the format that the tour would stick to: Dylan opening with a batch of his songs, backed by The Band; a short set by The Band alone; another short Dylan and The Band set; an acoustic Dylan set; another The Band set; and a final joint encore.

On the evidence of the newly released The 1974 Live Recordings , and Before the Flood , the concert album released in June 1974, the performances were electrifying. The Band played Dylan’s songs with a kinetic fury – Robertson firing off poetic, accusatory twangs while Helm’s drums powered the songs at a breathless pelt beyond the studio versions. They gave the songs the muscle necessary to fill the cavernous rooms Dylan now found himself playing. The years playing as their own unit had seen The Band grow in confidence, and they more than held their own against their old friend.

That can’t possibly be Bob Dylan, looking just like he did in the good old days: skinny, curly hair, black suede boots, blue jeans, the whole bit

Dylan, meanwhile, seemed to relish playing his old songs again (only “Forever Young” off Planet Waves , the album they were ostensibly touring, was a constant on the setlist). There is no better version of “Like A Rolling Stone” than that on Before the Flood , where the song is performed as a wild riot of spite, wit, passion, and outrage.

These performances were appropriately celebratory for the reunion of a generation and the man who’d defined them. The years in-between had been gruelling, thanks not least to the Vietnam War (winding down, but still a quagmire) and Watergate (revving up, but yet to claim Nixon’s scalp). Dylan had returned. He’d risen again, his songs – full of wisdom, emotion, scathing humour, and life – as vivid as ever.

The tour was a validation for that generation’s belief in Dylan, and for Dylan and The Band’s belief in themselves. Years later, Robertson told Uncut ’s Barney Hoskyns that the tour proved the risks they’d taken in 1965 “hadn’t been crazy… It was not incredibly different from what we’d done with Bob before... this kind of dynamics. We’d come way down when the singing came in, and when the solos started, we’d go screaming off into the skies”.

Musician Bob Dylan belts out a tune as members of The Band (Robbie Robertson, partially hidden left, and Garth Hudson, background center) accompany him, during a concert in Los Angeles on 15 February 1974

The critics were mostly rapturous. “That can’t possibly be Bob Dylan, looking just like he did in the good old days: skinny, curly hair, black suede boots, blue jeans, the whole bit,” wrote NME ’s Barbara Charone, of that magical opening night in Chicago. Robert Christgau, the influential “dean of American rock criticism”, described 28 January’s set at New York’s Nassau Coliseum as “a triumph”, and Before the Flood as “the craziest and strongest rock and roll ever recorded”. Likewise, Melody Maker ’s Chris Charlesworth called the show at New York’s Madison Square Garden “the best concert New York is likely to get this year or next”.

For all this glory, however, the tour would prove a last hurrah for Dylan and The Band as a working partnership. “It was the most magical tour,” Dylan’s assistant Arthur Rosato told Bob biographer Clinton Heylin. “But it was personalities. By the end of that tour there was a little separation.” In the years that followed, the same demons that had plagued The Band in 1973 resurfaced with a vengeance.

Robertson left after a grand, all-star farewell show in 1976, filmed by Martin Scorsese in The Last Waltz. His erstwhile bandmates reformed without him in 1983 and continued to tour until Danko’s death in 1999, even after Manuel hung himself following a March 1986 show in Florida. Robertson’s death in 2023 leaves Hudson the only surviving member of The Band.

Bob Dylan performs at the Isle of Wight Pop Festival in 1969, fresh off working with The Band at The Big Pink

Dylan continues on, however. He followed Planet Waves and the reunion tour with 1975’s Blood On The Tracks , one of his most-acclaimed albums. His critical stock waned and waxed over the following decades, as he made some of his worst records alongside some pretty great ones. Throughout it all, he’s remained a legend, a solid box office draw, thanks in part to that 1974 tour, which established the Bobfather as an artist with an infinite capacity to regenerate himself, and a songbook that will never not resonate with the generation it spoke to, and the subsequent generations that discover it.

Five decades on, Bob’s still touring, with 10 UK dates in November to conclude this year’s leg of his eternal road trip. There’s no telling which Bob will arrive onstage that final show at the Royal Albert Hall, how he’ll render those beloved songs – or how the faithful will feel about it the morning after. The magic of those 1974 shows now seems beyond his reach, but that tour and his remarkable rebirth taught us anything it’s that we should never write Bob Dylan off.
