Cruises to England

Set sail along the famous English coastline to some of Europe's oldest, most fabled ports on cruises to England with Celebrity. You'll visit timeless cultural heritage sites throughout cities and towns steeped in hundreds, and even thousands of years of history. Tour craggy castles, opulent palaces, and majestic cathedrals. Stroll along medieval lanes in quaint English villages. Sip afternoon tea with scones and cream, or stroll along the top of windswept cliffs.

On England cruises, you'll depart from the seaside city of Southampton, gateway to England's South Coast. Visit the picturesque port of Dover, known for the iconic White Cliffs. Explore the northern port of Liverpool, with a fine maritime and music heritage. Before your cruise, spend a day in London, visiting the sights: the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Soho, and Trafalgar Square. No matter which cruise to England you choose, you'll enjoy Celebrity's stylish and elevated onboard experience.

England Cruise Highlights

Serene countryside.

England’s countryside ranges from the rolling soft greens of the south to the mountains and rugged shorelines of North Wales. From Dover, you can’t miss the famous, chalky White Cliffs. Stroll along the top, taking in views across the English Channel to France and enjoying the breeze. If you have time in Southampton before or after your cruise, head out to the New Forest, a wooded National Park, known for its wild ponies.

Cosmopolitan Cities

Explore urban life on your cruise to England. See the sights in London, the buzzing capital, packed with galleries, museums, and world-class shopping. Learn about Liverpool’s maritime history and admire its regenerated waterfront. Beatles fans will, of course, want to take a tour and learn about the band’s beginnings. Soccer followers won’t be disappointed, either; Liverpool F.C, and rivals Manchester United and Manchester City are all based in the north, with stadium tours on offer.

Centuries of History

History dates back thousands of years in England. Visit the neolithic stone circle of Stonehenge, established an astonishing 5,000 years ago. Fast forward to London and the often grisly history associated with the famous Tower of London, or admire graceful Canterbury Cathedral, all gothic spires and soaring interiors, on a day trip from Dover. Discover the serene old city of Winchester from Southampton, or wander around Roman-built Chester, all half-timbered houses and cobbled streets.

Malahide Castle in Dublin, Ireland

Southampton, England, Waterfront quayside

ENAMOURED WITH ENGLAND

There's something for everyone in England – whether you prefer metropolitan meccas like London or the quiet countryside of the Cotswolds.

It's useful to know the London Underground escalator etiquette, which is to stand on the right so commuters can rush by on the left.

Tipping is not customary across the British Isles like it is elsewhere in Europe and in North America. Some restaurants do add a service charge to bills.

If driving in the British Isles, remember that Ireland's road signs are in kilometres, while Great Britain uses miles.

FOR FOODIES A CUISINE OF COMFORT

Each country in the British Isles is known for its signature pub grub and comfort food dishes. These hearty and predominantly meaty meals keep locals warm in a region known for its bracing weather.

Traditional Irish Stew for St. Patricks day

Stir the Pot

Made from slow-cooked meat – typically lamb or beef – and root vegetables such as potatoes, onions and carrots, a bowl of Irish stew with a side of crusty bread is only made better when washed down with a pint of Guinness.

Cote de Boeuf with Yorkshire Pudding

The Proof's in the Pudding

Typically served on Sundays, a traditional British roast usually includes roast beef, roast potatoes, a side of vegetables and Yorkshire pudding; a baked pudding often served with gravy. Head to a London pub to tuck into this English tradition.

British Fish and Chips

The O.G. Fish and Chips

Across the British Isles, you'll find thousands of restaurants and shops exclusively serving fish and chips, which first appeared in England in the 1860s. Flaky, tender white fish is deep-fried in a thin, crunchy layer of batter and served alongside thick-cut fried potatoes and 'mushy' peas, as the locals call them, which are blended with cream or occasionally ultra-rich bone marrow.

Discover the beauty on your doorstep with a uk cruise.

With a whole world to discover, it is all too easy to forget the treasures we have right on our doorstep in the United Kingdom. Allow us to remind you with a cruise around the British Isles, shining a light on the most fascinating corners of our diverse nation.

Made up of over 6,000 islands and boasting spectacular coastlines and beautiful landscapes, the British Isles is rich in diverse cultures, customs, and traditions, making for a charming cruise destination. Our unique British Isles cruise itineraries take you to remote, far-flung islands, iconic and vibrant cities as well as charming coastal towns.

With a focus on the stunning islands around the mainland of our nation, you’ll be able to explore unique cultures and landscapes on a round Britain cruise with Ambassador.

Discover the tranquillity of Tobermory on the Scottish Isle of Mull. With rainbow-hued buildings along its peaceful harbour, an iconic whisky distillery and amazing natural landscapes, you’ll have plenty to fall in love with here. We don’t stop there with the Scottish Isles, and a highlight of many cruises is Portree on the Isle of Skye, where you will feel like you’ve entered a Tolkienesque fantasy landscape upon Skye’s surreal crags and peaks. You’ll also be able to visit Kirkwall, and stunning feature of the northern Orkney Islands, filled with historical sites and surrounded by an incredible wilderness.

Looking southwards, you’ll be able to explore the quaint capital of St. Peter Port in Guernsey, where England meets France amid a picture-postcard landscape. Quainter and more unspoilt than its near neighbour St. Helier, St. Peter Port is part Francophile fishing port, part bustling capital – and a playground for the wealthy, who know a good thing when they see it.

Then there are the hidden pleasures of St Mary’s in the Isles of Scilly, a subtropical paradise off the coast of Cornwall. Little more than six square miles, St Mary’s is the largest of the islands, with an atmosphere that is unlike anything you will experience on the mainland.

It’s not just inspiring islands we visit, with stops at incredible mainland ports on our cruises of the UK, from Belfast in Northern Ireland, with incredible culture and access to the geological marvel of Giant’s Causeway. And you can explore the historic maritime city of Portsmouth on England’s south coast, loaded with amazing attractions and a bustling atmosphere.

Our cruises around the UK offer a fantastic opportunity to explore some of the best of both Britain and Ireland, uncovering UNESCO World Heritage sites, a wealth of cultures, incredible natural landscapes, energetic towns and cities and much more. Who knew there was so much to love on our doorstep?

Expedition Ships to the British Isles

Travel sustainably, safely and in comfort on board our smaller expedition ships, perfect for exploring the coastline and isles around Britain and Ireland. See the ships that will take you there.

MS-Fram-Antarctica-HGR-106890-Photo_Photo_Competition.JPG

A favourite within our fleet, MS Fram is a purpose-built expedition ship named in honour of the Original FRAM - the world's greatest exploration ship between 1893 to 1912 and has been captained by both Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen during her years at sea. With 119 cabins, she is one of the smallest ships in the fleet and spends her time between the Arctic in the summer (May-August), before heading south to Antarctica for the winter (November-March). Her small size, allows her to bring you closer to nature - and with key expedition features such as smaller expedition boats and Science Center, she is perfect for creating an unforgettable expedition experience.

Kangerlussuaq-Greenland-HGR-116925-Photo_Karsten_Bidstrup.jpg

MS Spitsbergen is named after the crown jewel of Arctic Norway – the Svalbard archipelago and its biggest island, Spitsbergen. Hurtigruten has a long history of traveling to Spitsbergen, beginning in 1896 with the 'Sports Route'. After a complete reconstruction, MS Spitsbergen joined the Hurtigruten fleet in 2016. The ship features high technical standards as well as comfortable, modern public areas and cabins. She is modern and environmentally progressive and will undergo further improvements that will reduce emissions and fuel consumption even more. The new ship’s maneuverability and optimal size make her quite suitable for exploring polar waters.

MS Fridtjof Nansen, Antarctica. Photo: Espen Mills

The newest addition to our fleet will honor the heritage of her namesake – the Norwegian explorer, scientist, humanitarian, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Fridtjof Nansen. Known for his innovations in Arctic expeditions, Nansen led the first crossing of Greenland on cross-country skis. He is perhaps most famous for his attempt to reach the geographical North Pole during the Fram Expedition (1893-1896). Interestingly, after Nansen's Fram expedition, the ship was passed on to another great explorer who secretly planned an expedition to the South Pole - Roald Amundsen.

Six of the best British Isles cruises

From cruises on ultra-luxury yachts to traditional ships, our picks of the best round-britain itineraries..

Editor’s note: After over a year of waiting, cruise lines are finally resuming operations with a mini-season of ex-UK itineraries around the British Isles being unveiled. You can see a list of 2021 coastal sailings and British Isles cruises here .

One of the great benefits of an ex–UK cruises – that is, a cruise that departs from a British port – is the ease in which you’re able to board. With no airport queues, no long waits in departure lounges or luggage restrictions, it’s just a case of getting to the port, unpacking and enjoying the holiday. Although some of these cruises head on epic voyages across the world, we’ve focused our attention on cruises that call at British ports, often with a stop or two in the Republic of Ireland.

Nigel Blanks, managing director of Saga Cruises, has recently suggested that, before restrictions on international cruises lift, the line will consider running itineraries around Britain “with and without ports of call” in 2020, “taking in sights such as the Jurassic coast-line, the puffins on Staffa and Giant’s Causeway to name but a few.”

With details of these types of cruises yet to be ironed out, we’ve picked six British Isles cruises for 2021 and 2022 – while Hurtigruten’s upcoming mini-cruises are also worth a mention .

This 14-night Springtime in the British Isles cruise  heads from Greenwich to Edinburgh on board the luxury expedition yacht  Crystal Endeavor , which carries just 200 guests and will be more often found exploring polar regions. Departing May 25, 2022, highlights include navigating the Isles of Scilly, the isolated St Kilda archipelago and exploring the beauty of the Scottish Highlands and Shetlands – plus an overnight in Edinburgh. This being Crystal, it’s not cheap: prices start from £10,619pp for 14 nights in a deluxe suite with veranda with all meals and drinks, most excursions, port taxes and gratuities.

Another luxurious option,  this time on Silversea’s 294-guest  Silver Spirit . The ship departs from and returns to Tower Bridge, docking next to  HMS Belfast , making for an unforgettable beginning and end to the journey. As well as two overnights in London, the cruise takes in the pretty harbour town of St Peter Port, Guernsey; Fort William, flanked by the UK’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis, on one side and Loch Linnae on the other; as well as the Isle of Lunga, the largest island in the Treshnish archipelago, which lies west of the Isle of Mull. The cruise lasts 14 days and fares start from £6,930pp for a twin share room.

Targeting the traditional over 50s British cruise customer, Cruise & Maritime Voyages has made a name for itself by utilising ports across the country. While the overwhelming majority of ex-UK cruises depart from Southampton, CMV regularly sails from Liverpool, Hull, Newcastle, Bristol, as well as its homeport in Tilbury. Its newest ship, Amy Johnson will sail from the Essex port on July 12, 2021 on a round-trip Grand British Isles Discovery calling at the likes of Lerwick in the Shetland Isles and Kirkwall in the Orkney Isles. The 10-night itinerary also includes a brief sojourn to France, with a stop at Honfleur. Prices start at £1,019pp for a superior twin inner room.

Occupying the same space in the market as Cruise & Maritime Voyages,   Fred Olsen Cruise Lines also makes fine use of Britain’s overlooked ports. Departing on July 29, 2021, this cruise on the 804-guest  Black Watch  heads from (and returns to) Liverpool , sailing out the city’s historic port. The cruise takes in Tarbert and Fort William, Scotland, where there is also a cruise of Loch Linnhe – as well as Stornoway, where there is scenic cruise by Bac Mòr, one of the Treshnish Isles, sometimes known as the Dutchman’s Cap. The cruise lasts five nights and fares start from £799pp for an inside cabin.

Hurtigruten tends to stay away from the word ‘cruise’; it’s true it offers something a little different to other options on this list. The operator started out delivering mail and transporting people across the west coast of Norway in the 1890s, but has since branched out to expedition voyages. On May 2, 2021, the 335-guest Spitsbergen  will depart from Greenock (Glasgow) , and take in the islands of Arran, Islay, Mull, St Kilda and more over 10 nights. The price is from £2,384pp for an inside cabin and includes drinks with lunch and dinner, selected excursions and wi-fi.

Regent Seven Seas has a British Isles cruise with a good focus on cities, as well as a trip to the Republic of Ireland. The 12-night roundtrip voyage on the incredibly luxurious Seven Seas Splendor departs from Southampton on May 20 2021 . The cruise calls at Edinburgh (New Haven), Kirkwall, Portree, Glasgow (Greenock), Liverpool, Dublin, Belfast, Holyhead, Waterford and Portland before returning to Southampton. Fare are from £8,859pp for a double suite with veranda and include all shore excursions, unlimited wi-fi throughout the ship, unlimited beverages, including fine wines and spirits, transfers between airport and ship, if needed, and free pre-paid gratuities.
