How do I check in?

You can check in online or at the airport.

Online check-in usually opens 24-48 hours before departure and closes a few hours prior to take-off. Please visit the airline's website for details, as policies may differ. 

Most of the time, it's also possible to check in at the airport. However, please keep in mind that some airlines charge extra fees for this option, and you will be required to be there well in advance.

You can check in using the booking reference number found in 'My Bookings' under the 'Check-in' tab. You can also add our check-in service to your trip, and we will handle all your check-ins for you.

Once you have checked in, you will receive your boarding passes. If you checked in online, don't forget to print your boarding passes, or download them on your mobile.

What is online check-in.

Online check-in is a service offered by Ethiopian Airlines in which passengers can check-in their flights using our website, mobile App or social Bots within 48 hours prior to the departure of the flight from wherever you are.

You can select your preferred seats, update your travel preferences, access our additional services and print your boarding pass online. This is a great alternative to avoid long queues at the airport.

What about check-in online for return / onward flights?

When can i check in online, is online check-in applicable to domestic flights and connecting flights, why can't i check in online.

here are several possible reasons why you may not be able to check in online. Some of them are:-

• You are not holding e-Ticket or you are originating from the following cities;-  Bamako & Ndjamena
• When origin point is offline point where ET is not the operating carrier
• If the Booking code/PNR is not ticketed or if the VCR/ticket status is anything else except OK
• It is possible that you are checking in for your flight out of the normal sequence of your itinerary. You must check in for flights in the same sequence of your itinerary for e.g., if your flight itinerary is as follows: Nairobi - Addis Ababa - Hong Kong You must check in for Nairobi – Addis Ababa prior to checking in for Addis Ababa - Hong Kong.

Can I do Online Check-In for my travelling companions as well?

What if i fail to arrive on time at the airport after check-in in online.

If  you fail to check in on time, you may be refused for carriage on your flight. This is in the interest of maintaining Ethiopian on-time performance and to ensure those on the flight who have connecting flights can make it on time.

• Depending on your fare conditions, a failure to check in on time may also result in: The loss of the original fare value. You may be required to make a new booking and pay for a new ticket if you wish to travel, or
• Pay a change fee penalty plus any difference between the fare of your new booking and the original fare

How soon before my flight should I arrive at the airport after I check-in online?

What is Your reservation is not eligible means?

What does invalid segment found in your reservation means, is online check-in available for all ethiopian airlines flights, restricted passenger, what is partially checked-in, what is reservation not found, why i get “we found your reservation but there is a problem with your ticket” response, what does check-in system error mean, common error responses, causes and solutions.

Is online check-in applicable to group reservations?

Which types of passengers are not allowed to check-in online.

 Online check-in is unavailable for specific passenger categories who are required to proceed to the airport for check-in. This includes 

passengers needing medical assistance , 

unaccompanied minors , 

those with tickets requiring additional payment,

 individuals with travel documents needing further verification at the check-in counter, 

pregnant mothers , 

wheelchair passengers ,

and those requiring special assistance. For these passengers, check-in process at the airport is necessary.

What time does online check-in open and close?

With a ticket purchased through a travel agency or sales agency, is it possible to check-in online, what document do i need to use the online check-in service.

You only need your Passport, the E-ticket number or Booking Reference to make use of our online check-in services. Visa and other travel documents may also be requested as per the ADC rule.

What happens if I experience a problem while checking in online?

I have purchased my seat in advance; however, can i also check in for connecting flights with other airlines, notifications.

Save $10¹ each on your first 2 checked bags for flights within the U.S., Latin America, Caribbean, and Canada or $5/£5/€5 each on transatlantic flights by adding them before check-in (more than 24 hours before departure).

Renew an adult passport

Renew early. Passport processing times  vary. And some countries and airlines deny entry if your passport expires in less than 6 months.

Determine if you can renew your passport

If any of the following are true, you cannot renew your U.S. passport and must instead apply for a new passport in person using Form DS-11:

• Issued before your 16th birthday
• Issued more than 15 years ago
• Damaged, lost, or stolen. Learn how to report a lost or stolen passport.
• Issued in your previous name, and you do not have a legal document like a marriage license to prove your legal name change

If none of the above situations are true, you can renew your U.S. passport. 

Can you renew an expired passport?

You can renew an expired passport, but only if it was issued within the last 15 years.

How to renew your passport and what documents you will need

Passports can only be renewed by mail, and the renewal process for passport books and cards is the same. You will select which type of passport you want when you fill out the application form. Online renewals are currently paused. Because it can take up to three months to process your application, it is important to renew your passport before it expires.

Typically, you will need the following items to renew your passport:

• You can fill out Form DS-82 online , or
• Download Form DS-82 and fill it out by hand, or
• Find your local passport acceptance facility or regional agency and pick up a copy.
• Passport photo
• Passport fee
• Your most recent passport - Your most recent passport will be mailed back to you separately after your new passport is mailed.
• Name change documentation, if necessary

Contact the U.S. embassy or consulate near you to request a passport while outside the U.S.

Be aware of passport expiration rules for your destination

Some countries and airlines will not allow a U.S. passport holder to enter if their passport expires in less than 6 months. 

Check your destination country's U.S. passport expiration rules on the  Department of State's country information page .

Sign up for Medicare

Medicare is our country’s health insurance program for people age 65 or older. You’ll sign up for Medicare Part A and Part B through Social Security, so you can make both retirement and Medicare choices and withhold any premiums from your benefit payments.

If you’re under age 65, you may be eligible for Medicare if you have permanent kidney failure or if you receive Disability benefits. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) does not qualify you for Medicare on its own. Even if you receive SSI, you must meet one of the other requirements to qualify.

• Start and end dates for any current group health plans
• Start and end dates for any group health plans after age 65
