Inside Sani Resort: Greece’s Most Luxurious Eco Destination

With a total of five hotels spread across the resort, Sani offers something for every traveler.

By Sophie Killip

sani resort greece

When thinking of taking a trip to Greece, it’s easy to focus on exploring the country’s famous groups of islands , sitting above the sparkling waters of the Aegean and Ionian Seas. However, the Greek mainland is not one to be overlooked – especially not the northern coastline, far away from the crowded streets of Athens . It’s here that Greece’s cultural capital and the country’s second-largest city, Thessaloniki, can be found – as well as the ultra-luxurious coastal destination of Sani Resort.

It’s only a quick trip down the coast from Thessaloniki to Halkidiki to reach Sani Resort . Voted the ‘World’s Leading Luxury Green Resort’ at the World Travel Awards 2021, Sani is the perfect example of how sustainability can be reached within a large-scale resort. Despite its colossal size, Sani has run on 100% renewable energy since 2019 and has been carbon neutral since 2020.

Although its eco-credentials are to be admired, the resort does not push them upon its visiting guests. Instead, it chooses to subtly infuse sustainability into all its practices, from banning single-use plastics and using electric vehicles around the estate to promoting biodiversity and growing its own produce. Through excursions and activities, it also invites guests to visit the forests and wetlands to discover more about the natural environment around them.

While many guests choose to participate in these eco-excursions, those that prefer to opt for a traditional beachside vacation are well catered for. Couples will enjoy the Michelin-starred dining, cruising on their own private yacht or taking a helicopter ride across the coast. Families at Sani Resort can enjoy time together by the pool – many of which have areas tailored to small children – or build sandcastles on the private beaches. Parents wanting some alone time will find that a breeze too, thanks to Sani’s dedicated babysitters, the resort’s ‘Teen Zone’ and the many academies open to children and young adults.

Staying at Sani Resort

One of the things that makes Sani Resort unique from other holiday destinations is the wealth of choice across activities, dining and even the various accommodation options. There are a total of five hotels across Sani Resort, from the tower-block Sani Beach at one end of the estate to the smattering of hillside villas that make up Sani Club, a hotel option that overlooks the crystalline coastline.

Our pick of hotels within Sani Resort is the luxurious Sani Asterias. Leading directly onto the beach and moments away from Sani’s private marina, Sani Asterias is the most boutique of Sani’s hotels, offering bespoke five-star services within elegantly designed suites and villas. There are a mere 57 suites within Sani Asterias, ranging from one-bedroom hideaways to sprawling three-bedroom villas that feature living and dining spaces as well as a private pool.

Alternatively, there are two other hotels worth seeking out during a stay at Sani Resort: Sani Dunes and Porto Sani. While Sani Dunes is situated directly on the beachfront, Porto Sani lies slightly further inland above the Marina. Both options have their plus points: Porto Sani’s location provides easy access to the sports facilities, while visitors to Sani Dunes can enjoy a quick stroll down to a private stretch of beach.

All of Sani Resort’s hotels have been designed individually, with changing color palettes and furnishing styles to match the atmosphere of the accommodation. Whether this is the laid-back style of Sani Dunes, the family-orientated excitement of Porto Sani or the sophisticated relaxation found in Sani Asterias, there is something for everyone.

Dining at Sani Resort

Something the Greeks have known since ancient times is that food is one of life’s greatest pleasures – and where better to experience the richest flavors and freshest produce than Greece itself? In this regard, Sani Resort is a foodie haven: the incredible destination boasts an astounding 27 restaurants and 13 bars across the estate.

Though these restaurants are open for the Sani Resort’s full season, the best time for culinary aficionados to visit is during Sani’s annual food festival, Sani Gourmet. Running for a weekend at the end of May each year, Sani Gourmet is a celebration of haute gastronomy. Prominent chefs from across the globe take over restaurants within the resort, creating menus that showcase their signature style and cuisine.

As Sani Gourmet was commemorating its 15-year anniversary this year, the 2022 iteration of the festival was slightly different. Instead of international chefs, this year Sani Gourmet highlighted the best and brightest on the Greek culinary scene. Guests were welcomed to book dinner at any of the restaurants hosting the festival, where they were treated to a culinary experience inspired by the visiting chef’s signature dishes.

Though Sani Gourmet only runs once a year, the rest of Sani Resort’s season has ample cuisine options to choose from, including private in-suite dining and picnics on the beach. Sani Asterias features two restaurants, Water and Over Water, the latter of which is run by chef Stéphanie Le Quellec, of the two-Michelin starred La Scène in Paris.

For tastes reminiscent of Matsuhisa and Nobu, head to Katsu, the Marina’s home of sushi and sashimi. Fresh, traditional Greek fare can be found at Ouzerie, a small taverna overlooking the sea, or for farm-to-fork dining try the Pines restaurant, found at Club Sani.

Exploring Sani Resort

Though many would try, you would be hard-pressed to find another beachside hotel that could match the scope of things to do at Sani Resort. Whether you are looking for wine tasting along the coast, private yacht cruises or tours of the surrounding historical sites, wishing to spend hours lounging on the beach or relaxing in one of Sani’s many spas, the resort is sure to have something to suit all tastes.

What’s more, the destination is scattered across 1000 acres of private nature reserve, encompassing forests and wetlands as well as the beautiful Aegean Sea. As a result, Sani Resort can offer a plethora of nature-based activities that promote biodiversity and sustainability, as well as the more obvious water-based excursions and fitness options.

First up are the options for families and children, with many options being adapted to include all age groups. Sani Resort boasts its own Bear Grylls Survival Academy, where families and teens can learn survival skills such as navigating, signaling for help and building shelters. Meanwhile, young tennis enthusiasts should be sure to visit the Rafa Nadal Tennis Center to learn training methods used by Rafa himself.

Children and young guests can also take part in Sani’s Treetop Adventure, a high ropes course through the forest with challenging obstacles and thrilling ziplines. For more educational nature-based fun, visit the bee-friendly garden to learn about these fascinating insects and their life cycles or take a trip into the protected wetlands with an eco-guide to spot various bird species and find out about Sani’s work to protect them.

The plethora of activities is not limited to the land either. Across Sani Resort’s many Blue Flag beaches there are areas dedicated to water sports ranging from paddleboarding, windsurfing and ocean kayaking to water-skiing and wakeboarding. Families can also enjoy snorkeling in the shallows, while those looking for an immersive underwater experience can try their hand at scuba diving with the Resort’s Scuba Diving Academy.

Sani Resort – A Family-friendly Haven Of Luxury On The Sparkling Greek Aegean

Sani Resort , on the Greek shores of the Aegean Sea near Halkidiki, is the ultimate in Mediterranean resort destinations, and offers the best of all worlds to everyone: a haven of both excitement and tranquillity set on an unspoiled stretch of coast with glorious white sand beaches surrounded by pine forests and wetlands, where five unique hotels form an award-winning 5* sports, leisure and lifestyle resort that is unlike any other.

Sani Resort’s secluded setting and expansive space certainly makes it a safe sanctuary for families, surrounded by nature including a 1,000-acre ecological reserve, 7km of Blue-flagged sandy beaches, over 20km of forest trails and 270-acres of wetlands to explore. The resort also has some world-class academies, including the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre, Chelsea Football Academy and Bear Grylls Survival Academy.

Sani Resort

When you arrive at this pristinely presented resort, you soon understand why they promise guests that the possibilities are endless when you stay at Sani.

Sani Resort is extraordinary! Covering 1,000 acres, and boasting over 35 exquisite bars and restaurants, serving a choice of menus from fresh local fare to Michelin starred gastronomy, as well as multiple pools, spas at each of the hotels and an exciting array of guest experiences and Academies, as well as designer stores, including Missoni and Melissa Odabash, all guests have to do is choose the resort hotel that suits their style.

Sani Resort also annual festivals for the music and also gastronomy, bring together artists and chefs from across the world.

Discovering Halkidiki

Spring is already bursting into bloom across the Halkidiki peninsulas, one of the most sought-after holiday destinations on the mainland of Greece. As most of northern Europe and eastern USA battle with storms, this verdant region is full of the sunny, verdant promises of the new season.

Like many people, my experience of Greece is defined by city breaks to Athens and summer island hopping. The beaches and forests of the mainland had remained relatively unknown.  Yet that all changed when I flew to Thessaloniki, the second city of Greece, to visit the Sani Resort.

Arriving in Thessaloniki

Despite its long history, this booming city looks relative new. Much if the historic centre was destroyed in the great fire of 1917. Yet the city is still a wonderful destination – it is absolutely buzzing! It has a wonderful cocktail and dining scene and lots of beautiful independent stores and boutiques.

Sani Resort is only a 40 minute transfer from Thessaloniki airport, which are is usually included in your holiday at Sani. I decided to extend my visit with a night in the city of Thessaloniki as I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to discover more of the city.

The drive to Sani is pretty straight forward on highways that whisk you to the first of Halkidiki’s smaller peninsulas, called Kassandra. The other two peninsulas, like fingers dipping into the sea, are Sithonia and also Athos (the last is actually a closed community of monks and is considered an independent state).

Five Hotels in One Resort

Surrounded by nature, including protected wetlands, pine forests and beautiful beaches, the Sani property has 5 resort hotels. Once checked in you can use all the facilities of the entire property.  Each hotel has its own dedicated beach and spa facilities.

Sani Resort’s largest hotel looks out upon the azure waters of Cape Sani from its beachfront location, surrounded by 7km white-sand beaches. From water sports and mountain biking to being pampered in the spa, Sani Beach’s lavish environment ensures exceptional experiences for all the family. This is one of the first hotels to have been built, and has been completely remodelled.

A secluded hideaway located at the far end of the resort, surrounded by lush nature and nestled in ancient olive groves. The panoramic views of the Aegean Sea make the Sani Club a private retreat, where you can immerse yourself in the natural environment and discover the local wildlife.

This for me was a real favourite. It felt really secluded, and I loved how the different buildings were found amongst pine trees on the hillside. It’s further away from the marina and main dining areas, but the advantage is you are close to nature, and the wondering biking and hiking routes, and is great for bird watching too. The restaurants here are a delight.

Elegance is everything at Sani Dunes, with its contemporary architectural style that compliments the grown-up atmosphere of this hotel suited to older couples and families with older children. Sani Dunes will enchant you with its Michelin-starred menus and modern, sophisticated style, whilst its proximity to Sani Marina, a cosmopolitan hub of boutiques and nightlife, will undoubtedly delight. The lobby here really sets the tone with an amazing art installation of crystals.  The design of the pool and the way the bars and restaurants make the most of the views was impressive.

Moments away from the vibrant Sani Marina, Porto Sani captures Mediterranean living at its relaxed and indulgent best. Lagoon-style pools and mouth-watering restaurant menus, as well as new and refurbished suites, this hotel is perfectly tailored to young families. The all-suite accommodation is so beautifully designed, and the layout of the different accommodation blocks amongst the landscaped grounds gave a feeling of privacy. As a couple without children this would be a lovely place to stay.

Sani Asterias

A world of refined luxury awaits you at this intimate hotel with its elegant setting, bespoke services and ambiance of total ease. The light-filled suites capture the Mediterranean spirit, and with the terrace doors opening directly onto the soft white sand of Sani Asterias’ exclusively serviced beach, guests have immediate access to the sea. There are also the indulgences of in-room beauty treatments, champagne on arrival and Michelin-starred food to make this a perfect paradise for the luxury lover.

Sani Marina

The vibrant Sani Marina is one of the best kept secrets of the Aegean. Set in the heart of Sani Resort, it is a luxurious haven for yachts and the perfect place for some retail therapy or sophisticated dining. With its stunning array of chic boutiques offering an exclusive selection of top international brands such as Missoni and Melissa Odabash and pop-up stores and mouth-watering menus across its restaurants and bars ranging from inspired sushi to traditional Greek, a stroll around the Piazza of Sani Marina is a must.

Resort dining

With 27 restaurants, 13 bars, 11 dine around set menus and 19 child-friendly menus, Sani resort offers international cuisine for the most discerning palate, as well as catering to children’s tastes.

Sani believed in a farm to table approach, with over 60% of Sani’s produce coming from within 100 miles of the resort. There are herb and vegetable gardens on the sort too, which the chefs use on a daily basis.

From Modern and Traditional Greek to Spanish, Italian, Peruvian and Japanese, plus Mediterranean and International menus, as well as beachside and poolside dining, and an array of cocktail bars, wine bars and coffee bars, there is a world of high quality food to explore across the resort. Special baby & children’s menus are available, designed by Annabel Karmel, as well as vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and well-being menus.

Sani Resort is not all-inclusive. But you can choose a full-board option, which means all means are included, but the choice of restaurants that offered the full-board menus was more limited. I would recommend the flexibility of dining where you wanted, but of course this is more expensive. Alcohol was particularly expensive compared to non-resort properties in Greece.

There were some real standout, destination restaurants including Lima for contemporary Peruvian cuisine. There is Katsu for Japanese dining, including superb sushi, and the remarkable Over Water restaurant by 2 Michelin-starred chef Stephanie Le Quellec. The other Michelin star chefs are David Ibarboure (1 Michelin star) for ‘El Puerto’ and Ettore Botrini (1 Michelin star) for ‘Fresco’.

Each hotel offers a choice for a la carte or more family-friendly buffer breakfasts – and the quality was notable.

Lunch can be light bites in the marina, or at any of the all-day dining restaurants.

At first the enormous amount of choice can seem overwhelming, but Sani has created a very easy-to-use smart phone app that allows you to log in with your booking reservation details and browse all the restaurant’s and make reservations before you arrive.  The app also allows you to do the same with all the sporting activities.

Families are at the heart of Sani Resort’s luxurious offerings, with free stays for kids at Porto Sani, Sani Beach and Sani Club. And while families come for time together, the resort also ensures parents and children can enjoy time apart, with private nanny services, crèches, kids club and beachside babysitting, as well as complimentary premium products and adventurous activities for those aged 0-12. Older kids aged 12-17 have their own dedicated space at Sani Marina where they can make friends, try new activities and have some independent fun.

I thought it was particularly creative that Sani offered a complimentary ‘Babewatch team’ that would mind guests little ones in the shallows, so parents could have 30 minutes to themselves to enjoy the beaches.

Another very smart service is the free supply of baby equipment, in-room amenities, strollers etc. so parents can really pack light.

Scuba diving, canoeing, cooking or dancing are on the menu, as well as programmes at the Academies, such as learning survival techniques at the Bear Grylls Academy. Parents can also be reassured about child safety, as the resort has a dedicated Little Guests team, as well as doctors and emergency healthcare.

Experiences

With a diverse array of water sports available, and yacht cruises on the Aegean, Sani Resort makes the most of its beachside location. There are also 10km of forest trails for walkers and cyclists, and five spas for indulging in relaxing and reinvigorating treatments.

Added to these, Sani Resort has a dedicated VIP Services Team that will organize bespoke excursions that cater to your family’s individual needs, whether it is a yacht cruise or private dining.

The Academy experiences are without doubt the big attraction, from the general sports academies, to the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy, Chelsea Football Club Academy, and Bear Grylls Survival Academy, as well as a fitness centre, yoga on the beach and mountain biking through the forest.

This summer some VIP athletes will be visiting the academies:

Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy

Toni Nadal (Former coach of Rafa Nadal and Head Coach at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca) is visiting Sani Resort during 01/07-05/07. He will be at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre everyday supervising all the courts, sharing his valuable knowledge and experience with guests and being around as well for autographs and talking to guests.

Sani Resort Review — experience complete, guilt-free, wonderful indulgence with the family in Halkidiki, Greece

The Location

Food & drink, the facilities, the details, how to book:.

What you want from a holiday shifts after you have kids — suddenly all-inclusive resorts become inexplicably appealing. But the easy access to food and the full roster of activities — that make the experience so joyful — also comes with a large helping of guilt. Guilt about wastage and the environmental cost of such indulgence. But there is a way to satisfy your heart's travel desires with minimal impact on our ecosystem, you just need to know where to go… Kalimera, Sani Resort.

An Aerial shot of Sani Resort showing some of the pools at Sani Asterias and a section of beach with white sun loungers and parasols

An aerial shot of showing some of Sani Beach's pools and waterfront

If you’re after a luxury holiday with ALL the treats but don’t want the planet to pay the price for your pampering, then Sani Resort is for you. Sustainability is a primary focus here — they use 100% renewable energy, single-use plastic is banned, they support various local biodiversity projects and organisations, and by 2024 they plan to be zero waste. This isn’t greenwashing either — they’ve won many travel industry awards for their innovative and market-leading approach to sustainability, including a Marie Claire Sustainability Award in 2022 .

If all they excelled at was being “green” though, they wouldn’t be anywhere near as popular as they are. And Sani Resort is popular. It’s often fully booked for the whole season before it’s even opened, and for good reason — its reputation precedes it. Return guests come again and again for the tasty food, breathtaking views, cracking facilities and often flawless service.

View from the forest at Sani Resort

Sani Resort is located on the beautiful Kassandra Peninsula in Halkidiki, a verdant part of mainland Greece. Just under an hour's drive from Thessaloniki International Airport, it’s set within a 1,000-acre ecological reserve, surrounded by fragrant pine forests and pristine sandy beaches, and it has a killer view of the Aegean Sea and Mount Olympus. The grand scale of the place means you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a gorgeous spot to lounge in — choose from meandering lagoon pools to buzzing marina-side restaurants, or beach bars perfectly positioned to soak up the golden light as the sun dips below the horizon.

A section of the unspoilt Bousoulas Beach at Sani Resort. There are soft sand dunes with tuffs of grass, soft white sand, turquoise see and white parasols and loungers dotted along the beach

Nature enthusiasts, grab your trainers and explore the nearby Sani Wetlands, a protected bird sanctuary, offering a tranquil escape into the marvellous panoramic landscapes. Or, if you’re looking for adventure, the mountain bike trails that hug the coastline are guaranteed to get your pulse racing.

A flock of birds on one of the lagoons at Sani wetlands

Everything you need is on-site — including fashion and jewellery boutiques for spur-of-the-moment treats — but if you do want to explore the region you're not far from Afytos, a pretty hilltop village of stone houses and cobbled streets with spectacular views of the Toroneos Gulf.

In fact, there’s no shortage of charming villages on the cape, each with cute souvenir shops and local tavernas (though you’ll be hard-pressed to beat Sani Resort's food). History and culture buffs, could take a mooch around Nea Potidea, a town built on the ruins of the Byzantine city of Kassandria, or a jaunt to Thessaloniki, a bustling port city with everything from ancient archaeological sites to contemporary art exhibitions. Cards on the table though: guests don’t tend to leave the resort. There’s too much to do, and too much great food.

Sani Resort's private Marina at sunset

In a nutshell, what you’re getting is an elegant resort offering the freedom of choice that comes with staying in a charming town, with the ultra convenience of being in a plush hotel.

Sani encompasses five hotels and excellent wellness facilities along 7 kilometres of beautiful blue flag coastline, and guests can move freely between each, either on foot, buggy or complimentary electric car. You might sleep at one, enjoy a yoga class at another, sunbathe with one of the best books of 2023 and a cocktail at a third, have a spa treatment and dinner at a fourth and finish in a bar at the fifth. And while each hotel is distinct, they harmonise with chic nautical inspired colour palettes, consistently excellent service and an unrelenting pursuit of perfection for guests — they proudly admit that the only thing they can’t control here is the weather. Thankfully, they don’t often need to (so pack your best sun cream ) .

Sani Dunes hotel, pool and gardens, which face onto the beach and sea

Sani Dunes hotel, pool and gardens

This place is a well-oiled machine, yet all the work that must go into maintaining the highly efficient yet unobtrusive service, incredible food and pristine grounds is almost invisible. They make delivering wonderful holiday experiences look effortless, and perhaps this is because they’ve been doing it for so long. Sani first opened in the ‘70s, and since then the resort has slowly expanded to its current brobdingnagian size. After fifty or so years you might expect it to be looking and feeling a little tired, but on the contrary thanks to regular refurbishments, it’s as fresh-faced and as enthusiastic as ever.

The staff are knowledgeable and happy too — one lifeguard shared that they loved their job because many families return annually and it’s a joy to see the same kids grow and change over the years. And being in such positive, experienced hands with a team that can anticipate your wishes before you can, sets a very relaxing tone for guests. Speaking of which, families make up the majority of bookings at Sani, but you’ll still find couples and groups of friends chilling poolside and talking animatedly over a delicious dinner, so don’t be put off if you are child-free.

With almost 1,000 rooms across five different hotels, there’s a configuration for everyone. They range in size and facilities, from your entry-level one-bedroom apartment to your sumptuous three-bed suite complete with private pool. While they vary in scale, what they all have in common is a chic, beachy aesthetic and a muted colour palette lifted straight from the azure waters of the neighbouring Aegean Sea. And whether you opt for the basic or a boujee room, you’ll still get marble floors, very fine beds and perfectly crisp white bedlinen, plus high-spec gadgets (like fancy espresso machines and music docks). Every room also has an abundance of mood lighting which might take you a few days to riddle out, but when you finally do you’ll get that same smug feeling as when you’ve completed a Sunday crossword.

An aerial shot of some of the lagoon shaped pools at Porto Sani, which are landscaped with palm trees and are surrounded by loungers

Before you decide what size room you want, you’ll need to pick a hotel. Each has a slightly different vibe and things going for it. If you want all singing, all dancing and action-packed days then opt for Sani Beach . For easy access to buzzy restaurants and sports facilities —but with somewhere low-key to retire to — then Porto Sani is a great option. For peace and quiet and to be immersed in nature go to Sani Club . If a boutique hotel experience on the waterfront is more your bag, book Asterias , and finally, for glamour and to be surrounded by mainly grown-up guests go to Dunes .

Come for the glorious Greek weather and stay for the glorious gourmand experience, because the food is absolutely fantastic. You'll need to either exercise a lot of self-restraint, actually exercise — or just be prepared to put on a few pounds — because every meal will be a joy. Even the “bad” meals here are actually very, very good. Seriously, if Sani Resort made a cookbook we would buy it immediately ( please make a cookbook, Sani).

Throughout the resort, there are a handful of very civilised buffets offering high-quality food, but it’s the a la carte restaurants that really stood out for us. Between the 27 eateries you can find everything from traditional Greek cuisine to Peruvian fare, and Italian cooking to Asian dishes, with each catering for children too. Getting allergy advice was a breeze, the portions are generous, and the menus in some establishments have even been devised by Michelin-starred chefs.

Speaking of Michelin Starred chefs, if you visit this July or August, Sani’s culinary festival, Sani Gourmet, will be running. Expect gastronomic experiences from famous chefs from around the world. And, for the first time ever, in 2023 it will coincide with the 31st Sani Festival, a celebration of music, where outdoor performances are set against the resort’s Byzantine Tower, which overlooks the ocean.

Sani Hill at night lit up to show the cliffs and Byzantine Tower that are part of the resort

Sani Hill, the location for the festivals, at night

Outside of the festival there’s still plenty of entertainment in the many bars scattered around the resort. If you want to take it up a notch from lounge singers, there’s Sani’s “White Night”, which takes place every Wednesday evening at Bousoulas Beach Bar. As the name suggests, guests wear white to dance away the hours with a resident DJ and live musicians.

White Night at the beach at Sani Resort. Candles light the way, and disco lights illuminate the bar and beach where guests are dancing

With small people in tow, our evening plans mainly consisted of family-friendly dinners. Feeling a little overwhelmed by the food choice, we asked the concierge to make all of our restaurant reservations for us (including for breakfast). They happily obliged and we were really pleased with their recommendations (and how easy it was to communicate with them via Whatsapp). Our personal favourites were Pines , El Puerto , Lima and Beach House — though we loved eating around the marina too.

Many of the restaurants are very popular, so it’s worth booking in advance of arrival if there are some you definitely want to visit. You can download the app before departure to do this or contact the concierge. If you have young children, we also recommend taking some colouring pads and pencils for them — all the restaurants are very welcoming to little ones, but no activity sheets are offered to keep them busy during leisurely meals. And you will want to luxuriate in food this nice.

An aerial shot of the tennis courts and football pitch

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Sani’s sports facilities are state-of-the-art. There is the Rafael Nadal tennis centre, which the ace player does actually visit (most recently in May), a Chelsea football academy (warning: this will convert your kids into massive Blues fans regardless of family protests), a Bear Grylls academy in the pine forest, a watersports and diving centre, mountain bike trails, a very fun pump track, treetop adventure courses, and a busy timetable of wellness classes including HIIT , yoga, pilates .

If swimming is more your thing, you can do a few lengths in one of the many (heated out of season) pools including the largest outdoor heated pool in Greece, and even try your hand at things like synchronised swimming (which one of our testers raved about). Between us we tried a good range of activities and found them to be enjoyable and inclusive — yes, you’ll rub shoulders with talented sportspeople (especially on the tennis courts), but you’re warmly welcomed and encouraged by staff regardless of your skill or ability.

A picture of a treatment room in Sani Resort, it's decorated with muted stone colours and is lit by candles. The treatment bed is in the middle of the room

A typical treatment room at Sani Resort

If you prefer to get your glow from a spa rather than sports, then good news — Sani has five of them (one in each hotel). All of the spas use Anne Semonin products (a French skincare brand loved by Francophiles and beauty obsessives alike) and are softly lit havens that smell incredible. The most exclusive spas (the smallest) are at Sani Dunes and Sani Asterias , but the other three have several treatment rooms and thermal areas for guests, plus Porto Sani and Sani Beach also have indoor pools.

On the treatment menu, you’ll find all the usual massages, facials etc, plus an intriguing list of signature Sani treatments that are customisable to your fragrance preferences. We found the beauticians with their breathy, whispery way of talking to be very reassuring and after a massage, our exceedingly knotty muscles felt ready to slide off our bones.

For those holidaying with small people there’s a complimentary “Babewatch” service at the beach so you can enjoy a swim happily in the knowledge your kids are safe while you paddle. There are playgrounds, splash parks and also a free kids club for children aged 4 and up — though like the restaurants you’re advised to book this in advance of your stay. It’s very popular and you don’t tend to get cancellations because kids are generally having a blast and require no begging to attend. If anything, they’ll be begging you to go again. And we can't blame them — Sani Resort is utterly wonderful.

Is Sani Resort all-inclusive?

It’s not — and that’s part of the reason it’s got such good sustainability credentials. All-Inclusive experiences generate a lot of waste. Here you still have frequent, easy access to food but by choosing between half or full board instead. You mainly order off menu, and clever AI tech in the kitchen helps keep the amount of waste to a minimum (especially as the quality of the food means you don’t really want to leave any).

Are drinks included at Sani Resort?

Not typically, no. At breakfast they are, but at lunch and dinner, you can expect to pay for all beverages, including water. The prices reflect the environment too, so be aware your drinks bill can quickly rack up.

How many restaurants are there at Sani?

There are currently 27 restaurants at the resort. For the full list, see below:

  • Alexis at the marina — Traditional Greek

Korolyov or Korolev is an industrial city in Moscow Oblast, Russia, well known as the cradle of Soviet and Russian space exploration. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 183,402, the largest as a science city. As of 2018, the population was more than 222,000 people. It was known as Kaliningrad from 1938 to 1996 and served as the leading Soviet center for production of anti-tank and air-defense guns. In 1946, in the aftermath of World War II, the artillery plant was reconstructed for production of rockets, launch vehicles, and spacecraft, under the guidance of Russian scientist and academician Sergei Korolev, who envisioned, consolidated and guided the activities of many people in the Soviet space-exploration program. The plant later became known as the RKK Energia; when the Vostok space vehicle was being developed, this research center was designated as NII-88 or POB 989.
