Which Used 2021 Chrysler Voyager Trim Is Right for Me?

The 2021 Chrysler Voyager comes in two trims: L and LX. Both trims come with a V6 engine, a nine speed-automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The LX will get you more convenience features, like a power-adjustable driver’s seat and audio controls on the steering wheel, but performance-wise, these trims are similar.

  • Chrysler Voyager L: The base L trim comes with a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a USB port, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, second-row bench seats, a Stow ‘n Go rear-row bench seat, a rearview camera and remote keyless entry. You may be able to find some models with tri-zone manual climate control.
  • Chrysler Voyager LX: The LX trim gains a touring-tuned suspension, satellite radio, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, two second-row bucket seats with in-floor storage bins, audio controls on the steering wheel and alloy wheels. It's available with heated front seats, a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, remote start and a rear overhead DVD player.

What Does Chrysler's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Chrysler has a certified pre-owned program for vehicles less than six years old and with fewer than 65,000 miles. Buyers get the balance of the seven-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. They also receive a three-month, 3,000-mile maximum care warranty that covers most major components and is good from the date you purchase your CPO Chrysler. If your CPO Chrysler has any of the original three-year, 36,000-mile new-vehicle warranty remaining, the maximum care warranty kicks in when the new-car warranty expires. Chrysler CPO vehicles must pass a 125-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and 24-hour roadside assistance may be available.

Chrysler has one of the worst CPO programs among affordable carmakers, according to our analysis. Kia, Hyundai, Chevy, Ford, Honda and Mazda are all better.

Extended Warranties for Chrysler Cars and Minivans

Not every used Chrysler will qualify for a certified pre-owned warranty. However, there are options available if you want additional coverage after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Versus the Competition

2021 chrysler voyager vs. 2021 chrysler pacifica.

The Voyager is essentially the lower-end version of the Chrysler Pacifica . These two minivans feature the same V6 engine and cargo dimensions, but the Pacifica is available with many more features, including adaptive cruise control, a Wi-Fi hot spot, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, all-wheel drive and second-row seats that fold flat into the floor. The downside is that the Pacifica has higher projected ownership costs and will likely cost more to purchase.

Compare the Voyager and Pacifica »

2021 Chrysler Voyager vs. 2021 Honda Odyssey

The 2021 Honda Odyssey is another great choice when looking at used minivans. The Odyssey has more standard safety features and more cargo space than the Voyager, and it has an upscale cabin. The Honda also offers a wide variety of family-friendly features not found in the Voyager, such as an in-vehicle vacuum cleaner. However, the Honda has much higher projected ownership costs than the Chrysler. If you can swallow the higher costs, the Odyssey is worth the splurge.

  • Drivetrain: front-wheel drive
  • Transmission: nine-speed automatic

2021 Voyager Interior

2021 voyager interior quality.

The Voyager has a nice interior made of mostly high-quality materials and soft-touch surfaces, though some reviewers complain about some hard plastics in the cabin. It lacks niceties like leather upholstery, however, so if that's important to you, look elsewhere.

How Many People Does the 2021 Voyager Seat?

The 2021 Voyager seats seven people in three rows (many competitors can seat up to eight). This Chrysler has roomy and comfortable seats in the front two rows, but the third is best left for kids as it is a bit tight on legroom.

Standard seating features:

  • Cloth upholstery
  • Second-row bench seats

Available seating features:

  • Eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • Heated front seats
  • Second-row bucket seats
  • Heated steering wheel

The 2021 Voyager has four complete sets of LATCH connectors, two in the second row and two in the third.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Features

You control the Voyager’s infotainment system with a responsive touch screen, as well as physical buttons and knobs. It’s a simple system with no frills, and it's easy to get the hang of. If you’re looking for an advanced and premium infotainment system or stereo, though, the Voyager might not be the best choice for you.

  • Standard infotainment features: a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a USB port and a six-speaker stereo
  • Available infotainment features: a DVD player and satellite radio
  • Other available features: remote start

The second-row seats have to be physically removed to access the maximum cargo space. There are lots of little storage options throughout the cabin, including bins under the second-row bucket seats.

Chrysler Voyager

Introduction

This budget version of the Pacifica only offers just key advanced safety features

This new minivan is positioned between the long-running Dodge Grand Caravan and the current Chrysler Pacifica, on which it's based. The Voyager is essentially the two cheapest trims of the Pacifica, the L and LX, spun off under a new model name. (The fleet-only LXi version is headed primarily for rental car lots.)

The Voyager is available with rear- and side-entry conversions to accommodate the needs of wheelchair and mobility scooter users.

Here’s what we know so far.

The Voyager's exterior is nearly indistinguishable from a Pacifica's, aside from the badging. The front of this minivan has a simpler design than the Pacifica, and the body lacks some of the garnish and foglights used to dress up the Pacifica.

The Voyager's interior is likewise familiar, because it's drawn directly from the Pacifica. In our tests of that minivan, we found that it was a step up from the Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna, although there were still some hard plastics that disappointed us. We expect that the Voyager's fit and finish will be similar to its mechanical sibling's.

The Voyager offers generous space for the driver and passengers, but it's limited to a seven-passenger configuration, and there are no folding armrests.

Voyager drivers get the same generous array of well-labeled knobs and big buttons that make the Pacifica easy to command today. It has a dial knob gear selector that we have found easy to use, although there is a risk that drivers could mistake it for the large radio volume knob.

The Voyager comes with Chrysler’s Uconnect 4 infotainment system, with a 7-inch touch screen. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility is standard. Sound is piped through six speakers, and the cabin is hushed with active noise cancellation. An optional overhead DVD player is available on the LX trim—maybe the kids can use it to catch up on all the "Toy Story" and "Men in Black" movies that came before.

The Voyager is powered by Chrysler’s 3.6-liter V6 engine, here making 287 hp. It is matched to a nine-speed automatic transmission. This combination returned 21 mpg overall in the Pacifica we tested.

For contrast, the Voyager's cousin, the Dodge Grand Caravan, gets a meager 17 mpg overall, signaling that it's from another era.

For 2021, the Voyager offers optional forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Blind spot and rear cross traffic warning are also available.

Report: Tesla FSD Works Well Most of the Time - Until It Doesn't

Voyager Returns to Chrysler Lineup as Entry Level Van

Matt Posky

The Chrysler Voyager is returning to the retail market for the 2025 model year as the value variant of the Pacifica. While it lacks the looks and some of the features of its more luxurious sibling, it’s priced $2,500 lower and seems to be arriving at a point where shoppers might be more willing to re-engage with minivans due to their relative affordability. If you have a family and can only afford one new automobile, having something as versatile as a van might not be the worst idea.

Originally the default full-size van for the now-defunct Plymouth brand, the Voyager became a minivan after the debut of the Dodge Caravan in 1984. Discontinued in the early 2000s at roughly the same time the Plymouth division was being shut down, the name would continue being used for the export market. However, the model would be revived and rejoin Chrysler in the U.S. as the inexpensive (but visibly similar) alternative to the Town and Country.

voyager returns to chrysler lineup as entry level van

Global production would cease in 2016, leaving the Dodge Caravan as the only holdover minivan. But the Voyager name would come back in 2019 to become the base-trim variant of the Chrysler Pacifica. Public sales of the Voyager were discontinued in 2021, making the model exclusive to fleet sales.

But it’s now back on the retail market, which was probably a wise play on the part of Stellantis considering how cost sensitive American car buyers have become. The model is to minivans what the Ram 1500 Classic was to the company’s full-sized pickups. Chrysler even references the Voyager's styling as "classic,” which is really just a nice way of saying it uses the exterior bits of the older Pacifica (pre-2021).

voyager returns to chrysler lineup as entry level van

That’s all fine. While the current Pacifica is the better looking vehicle, the difference between them is negligible and the van’s outward appearance doesn’t really make it any better at taking the kids to school. Customers are basically getting the Pacifica with the older design cues. But they do get some of the current tech, including the 10.1-inch touchscreen using Chrysler's Uconnect 5 and the latest instrumentation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are likewise standard.

“Stow 'n' Go” seating allows the Voyager to swap from hauling people to things by creating a totally flat cargo space in the rear. While this won’t make the vehicle as capable as a full-size pickup, owners are still getting over 140 cubic feet of storage in the back. In many cases, that’s actually more space than you’d be allotted with the typical truck bed.

voyager returns to chrysler lineup as entry level van

It may not be quite so feature rich as the Pacifica. But Voyager buyers will get three three-zone climate control and heated front leatherette seats. The model also comes with a driver-assistance package that seems to stress the features most people would want — with adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rear parking sensors all being standard equipment.

Voyager models come equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar motor boasting 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The nine-speed gearbox is designed with efficiency in mind and is said to return 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. True to the original Voyager, it’s front-wheel drive.

voyager returns to chrysler lineup as entry level van

“The 2025 Chrysler Voyager offers customers a well-equipped, budget-conscious minivan and reinforces our brand’s commitment to delivering choices in the segment Stellantis created more than 40 years ago and continues to lead," stated Chrysler CEO Chris Feuell. “We’ve added many comfort, technology-focused and safety features as standard equipment on Chrysler Voyager, including standard Stow ‘n Go seating, making the Voyager an attractive, value-packed option within the Chrysler family of minivans.”

Pricing for the 2025 Chrysler Voyager starts at $41,690 (all prices include destination). Considering customers could purchase the now-discontinued (and comparatively ancient) Dodge Caravan for under $30,000 just five years ago, Voyager pricing feels a little high for what you’re getting.

It’s also not undercutting the competition. The 2025 Toyota Sienna Hybrid starts at $40,635 and the Kia Carnival starts at $37,895. But the Honda Odyssey opens at $43,315 with the Chrysler Pacifica being even dearer at $44,145.

voyager returns to chrysler lineup as entry level van

However, the real value proposition is against three-row SUVs and crossovers. While roughly the same size on the outside, minivans tend to offer superior fuel efficiency and interior space. They’ve also historically had better on-road manners than something that’s designed to do any amount of offroading. Your author would likewise hazard a guess that the deals being offered by Chrysler dealerships will probably be a little sweeter than what you might find elsewhere.

That said, SUVs remain trendy and are capable of doing things that minivans cannot. If your primary concerns relate to towing or coping with uncooperative terrain, it’s surprising you’ve read this far. But, if you’re just worried about hauling people/things in a vehicle that’s cheaper/easier to live with day-to-day, something like the Chrysler Voyager may be on the menu. Stellantis says models should start to arrive at dealerships in fourth quarter.

Sorry to have to be the one to say it, but that small difference in entry price between Voyager and Pacifica does not make it a bargain. You are still looking at a $41k entry point - roughly $10k more than it should be. Unless Voyager is going to come with hefty discounts sitting on the hood I don't think it's going to move the needle for Stellantis.

Arthur Dailey

Why was the Dodge Journey comparatively a sales success and vehicles like the Suzuki Kishashi and North American versions of the Ford Mondeo sales failures? Because most North American consumers still purchase based on cubic feet per dollar.

Who buys the most new cars? The older consumers/demographics,and homeowners. People who use their vehicles to go shopping,. To carry furniture and garden supplies. To drive around friends/family/grandchildren. Who do not care about G-Force, launch time, etc.

Many of these consumers prefer the 'security' of a new vehicle with a warranty rather than a used vehicle. If they can afford the new vehicle.

For nearly a century we were able to drive RWD vehicles in all types of weather. Why now do we 'need' AWD?

We keep reading that the cost of producing a large vehicle is not much more than for a small vehicle. Which is why the D3 were not competitive in the small car market. Or in building small pick-ups. And why full sized pick-ups are far more profitable.

So why can't Stellantis take a platform, and driveline that is 'older' but proven. Whose development costs have long since been paid off. Use these to underpin a 'box on wheels'. With 'less expensive' interior materials (for example 'soft' touch points). And sell it to 'the masses' craving an inexpensive (read under $34k), 3 rows of seating vehicle, perhaps the size of the original Magic Van? Front wheel drive, cloth seats, rubber flooring for ease of cleaning, minimal electronics. Sell these not only to the consumers noted above but also for fleet sales. Guaranteed that it would not cannibalize any current Stellantis sales.
