An awesome experience. The owners couldn't have been nicer! One of the best things I've ever done. I have been skydiving, bump skiing, diving with sharks, raced Porsches, zip lining and more and this tops them all! Hands down the best adrenaline rush ever! Thank you again!

Most fun I have had in a long time and I have been around a long time. Well worth the experience. Friendly and knowledgeable owners who know their stuff and be prepared for an exhilarating hour and a half ride. You will not be disappointed. Will probably return and have more fun in a future ride.

This was our 3rd year and it was as exciting as the first time. This is truly an American adventure. A must visit place if you enjoy off road fun. We want to thank Chris and Linda for unforgettable memories!

Great adventure led by fun guide on awesome trails. Felt safe and had a brief safety training that was perfect. Tour guide made us feel at ease, well run, friendly. Highly recommend! Thanks again! We had fun!

The tour was awesome! The guide leads the pack but doesn't really hold anything back so you get to fly down the trails and through the mud. We had a group of 4 and we all had a ton of fun!

Join us for a Spectacular Steamship Luncheon Cruise on the "Queen of American Lakes"

It was in 1646 that Father Isaac Jogues first glimpsed this body of water he called “Lac du Sacrement”.  The 32-mile-long lake was later renamed in honor of King George II of England.  Its natural beauty has prompted many to term it “The Queen of America Lakes”.  Lake George played a strategic role in the French and Indian War and later in the American Revolution.  The lake has over 159 miles of shoreline and is studded with 179 islands.  It has a maximum width of three miles and reaches a depth of 187 feet.

Welcome to Lake George – “Queen of American Lakes”. Lake George is well known for its natural beauty, quality attractions, accommodations, fine dining, and a wide range of experiences.  Its waters keep visitors coming back year after year to cruise the lake in comfort.  Our classic ship is an integral part of the lake experience and offers an image of Lake George unlike any other.

We'll make our way to New York with a stop for lunch en route. We begin our touring with a narrated driving tour of Albany, the State Capital of New York. Afterwards we will stop at Lake Luzerne to see where the Hudson and the Sacandaga Rivers converge. Dinner will be included enroute to our hotel.

After breakfast we will travel to Glens Falls, a small waterfall whose hydropower made it an ideal site for a number of early watermills, used to grind grist and to power sawmills. Enjoy the view as our guide shares more about its history. After a short stop to view the "Last of the Mohicans" mural hanging in the lobby hall of the Queensbury Hotel we head to Lake George. On the way, we will drive up Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway, a 5-mile scenic highway with spectacular views of Lake George and the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Next, we set sail on a luncheon cruise on beautiful Lake George aboard Lac du Saint Sacrement. We'll enjoy lunch paired with live music…take a spin around the dance floor or sit back and enjoy the views! Today's touring concludes with a guided tour of the Fort William Henry Museum. Discover this British fort where history comes alive with costumed soldiers and military demonstrations. Tonight, you are free to enjoy dinner on your own in the town of Lake George.

After breakfast, our day will begin with a guided tour of Saratoga Springs. Known as the "Queen of Spas," this town has a rich heritage as a health resort and gambling center for much of the 19th and 20th centuries. With 125 healing springs, it is still today "the Queen". The history, architecture, and rich horse racing tradition will be unveiled during our time here. Hear all about the historic racetrack, marvelous mansions, and famous residents. There will be free time in downtown Saratoga Springs for you to have lunch on your own at one of the many eateries. Next, we will visit Old Friends at Cabin Creek, a living museum of horse racing for all thoroughbred racehorses, both known and unknown, to enjoy a dignified "retirement home". The horses are able to frolic in their spacious pastures and live their retirement years in peace. Some even love to greet visitors. Operated by volunteers, a small gift shop and donations help fund this non-for-profit facility. This afternoon you can choose to try your luck at The Saratoga Casino or take a driving tour of the suburbs of Saratoga Springs. Dinner this evening will be at a local restaurant. We'll stop at Martha's Dandee Creme where you can purchase some of the best ice cream in the East! First starting as a chicken farm, it quickly transformed into the best ice cream around. No wonder it's been in business for 76 years!! The Rooster, when he was alive, would greet guests, thus the insignia of Charlie, the rooster.

After breakfast we'll begin our journey home. Enroute we will stop at the Museum at Bethel Woods for a tour and lunch. Some visit to relive the past and their journey to Woodstock, others come to experience what it was like for the first time. As you step inside the exhibit you hear the echo of 450,000 chanting "no rain" and see the stories of those who were actually there. Through artifacts, films, music - and even a hippie bus - you will be inspired not only by what was the most prolific three-day festival in history, but by the ideals that remain relevant today. Our arrival home is scheduled for late afternoon.

14 Best Things to Do in Lake George, NY | Activities & Attractions

Post summary: 10+ of the best outdoor activities and things to do in Lake George, NY.

Looking for the best things to do in Lake George? Then you’ve come to the right place.

I spent most of my childhood summers on Lake George and still enjoy uncovering new things to do here as an adult. Knowing a thing or two, it’s only right that I share it all with you!

With miles and miles of shoreline and almost 200 islands, Lake George is rightly known as “The Queen of American Lakes.”

Beyond its beauty, this part of New York is filled with outdoor adventures. But don’t be mistaken; there’s also no shortage of indoor fun when the weather calls for it (we’ll cover these, too).

Let’s dive in!

Fun Things to Do in Lake George, New York

Without further ado, here’s the list of what to do in Lake George, NY.

Glamping at Huttopia Adirondacks

Lake George is an outdoor utopia, so it only makes sense to spend a night in the woods when you get the chance.

But just because you’re sleeping out in the wilderness doesn’t mean you have to do it the old-fashioned way. Forget the hassle of pitching a tent and say hello to comfort in the outdoors at Huttopia Adirondacks .

Huttopia Adirondacks is a glamping resort in the forest in Lake George, NY. It gives you a rustic stay without skimping on comfort.

Wake up to sun rays streaming through the trees, grab a cup from the coffee bar, and enjoy freshly-made meals throughout the day, all after sleeping in a comfy bed.

Glamping at Huttopia Adirondacks is one of the best things to do in Lake George NY

Go Camping at Rogers Rock Campground

There’s nothing quite like an old-school camping trip to connect with nature.

I personally always recommend Rogers Rock Campground , which is located at the northern end of Lake George.

Whether you’re pitching a tent or parking an RV, you can expect clean restrooms with hot showers, fire pits, a swimming area, and picnic spots.

With over 300 campsites, many right by the lake, you’ll get to soak in those gorgeous waterfront views.

Just a heads up—these sites fill up fast, so be sure to book early. And remember, there’s no electricity, so bring some backup power if you don’t want to completely unplug.

As always, adhere to the Leave No Trace Principles of cleaning up after yourself, and their recycling center makes that even easier.

Camping at Rogers Rock Campground is one of the best things to do in Lake George

Drive up Prospect Mountain

Prospect Mountain might be considered one of the best hikes in Lake George, but there’s actually no hiking required!

You can drive to the top via the Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway. The well-maintained road winds 5 miles up the mountain with scenic views along the way.

There are three different overlooks on the way up: The Narrows, Lake George, and Eagle’s Eye. Once you reach the parking lot, you can take a shuttle or walk to the summit for 360-degree views.

On a very clear day, you can see the Green Mountains of Vermont, New Hampshire’s White Mountains, Canada’s Laurentian Mountains, and New York’s very own Adirondack High Peaks.

It’s easy to see why this is considered one of the best things to do in Lake George.

Note: Entry is $10, and pets are not allowed

Visit Fort Ticonderoga

Fort Ticonderoga is another Lake George historical site, but on the north end of Lake George. It’s a historical war fort that was originally built by the French near Lake Champlain.

If you love history, you’ll find Fort Ticonderga super interesting. The fort is a remodeled version of the original fort from the 1700s. The museum exhibits  detail the French and Indian and Revolutionary Wars, as well as host daily weapon demos.

Outside of that, Fort Ticonderoga is renowned for its beautiful gardens, views of Lake Champlain, Vermont’s Green Mountains, and Mount Defiance.

Once you’ve explored to your heart’s content, you can grab a bite at the Log House Welcome Center, offering a well-rounded menu.

Local tip: Combine your tour of Fort Ticonderoga with a hike up Mount Defiance (location: 72 Defiance Street, Ticonderoga NY 12883). There’s a pavilion at the top for a picnic with a birds eye view of the fort and surrounding landscape.

You can drive almost all the way to the top when the gate is open between May – October. Or park in the parking area at the bottom of the hill and hike up if the gate is closed.

Hike for Great Views

In addition to Prospect Mountain, Lake George has a handful of other popular hiking trails.

Here are some of my favorites:

  • Sleeping Beauty Mountain (7.7 mile loop; moderate) – This is one of the best short hikes with outstanding views in the Adirondacks and follows a well-marked trail. The hike begins at the Dacy Clearing Road trailhead. From there, it’s a moderate hike that ends with wide-open views of Lake George. . At the summit, follow the loop trail to go back down or make the hike slightly shorter by just going back the way you came. .
  • Buck Mountain (6.1 miles RT; difficult) – This is a more challenging hike with a steep push toward the end. But once you get past the difficult spots, you’re rewarded with sweeping views of Lake George and Tongue Mountain. The trail starts at the parking area on Pilot Knob Road.
  • Shelving Rock Falls –  Shelving Rock Falls is one of the easiest waterfall hikes in Lake George (not to be confused with Shelving Rock Mountain). To get there, park in the lot on Buttermilk Falls Road and then walk back over the small bridge to follow the trail into the woods. . The route is mostly pretty flat, but you’ll have to climb down the hillside to reach the falls once you get there. Continue past the falls to reach the shore of Lake George and Log Bay.

Check this link to Rexby NY map!

Experience History at the Fort William Henry Museum

If you like history, don’t skip Fort William Henry Museum. Located in the town of Lake George, it was first constructed by the British during the French and Indian War in the 1700s.

The museum today is modeled after the original British fort that was destroyed during the war, and offers two different tours between May and October:

  • General guided tour – teaches you about the area and the war, see the cannons fire, and interact with the fort soldiers while you see what life was like in Colonial America
  • Haunted history tour – a ghost tour where you get to hear stories that have been passed down for decades and come across some spooky sights at the museum.

If you visit with kids, they can enjoy an even more interactive experience. They’ll be recruited as soldiers, which includes being given uniforms and a certificate after they’re done with the drills.

Getting there: 48 Canada Street, Lake George, NY

Visit Bolton Landing

Lake George can get SUPER busy, especially in peak summer.

So when you want to escape the crowds, head slightly north to neighboring Bolton Landing. You’ll still get the gorgeous lake views and similar attractions found in the town of Lake George, but with far fewer crowds.

Enjoy sunbathing and swimming at Rogers Memorial Park Beach, grab a cocktail at The Gem, or hike up Cat Mountain for spectacular views.

If you’re in the mood for something extra adventurous (and not afraid of heights), visit  Adirondack Extreme Adventure Course . It’s a giant treetop obstacle course that’s fun for all ages – but it’s a tough workout!

Vintage photo of Bolton Landing in Lake George NY

Get Pizza at Giuseppe’s

This wouldn’t be a guide to the best things to do in Lake George if I didn’t tell you about Giuseppe’s . This is – hands down – the best pizza north of NYC. After your first bite, I’m certain you’ll find it hard to disagree.

Giuseppe’s is a family-owned pizzeria that dates back to 1975, so they’ve certainly been doing something right.

On their menu, you can enjoy a hand-tossed pizza with a wide range of toppings or stick to tried-and-tested gourmet pizzas like the Margherita.

In the mood for something besides pizza? Try one of their other entrees, like spaghetti with meatballs or a Swiss burger, and end the visit with tiramisu.

Take a Steamboat Tour

Lake George is beautiful from any angle, but there’s no better way to see it than getting out on the water.

There are a number of ways to get out on the lake, but taking a steamboat tour is a classic.

The steamboat operator has been around for more than two centuries – and it’s one of the most fun ways to discover exactly why Thomas Jefferson called Lake George “the most beautiful water I ever saw.”

Tours range anywhere from one to six hours, with the longer options that include lunch, brunch, and dinner cruises.

Shop the Outlets at Lake George

Wherever you are, it’s never a bad time for some retail therapy. In Lake George, you can go to The Outlets and find international brands and local boutiques running sales up to 70% off.

Some stores worth visiting are:

  • Outdoor stores: L.L.Bean, Columbia, Eddie Bauer
  • Footwear stores: Crocs, New Balance, Adidas
  • Apparel retailers: Levi’s, American Eagle, Coach, Michael Kors
  • Unique shops: Wax n’ Wix and Pepper Palace

See the full list of stores here .

Enjoy River Tubing or Whitewater Rafting

La zy river tubing is one of the most fun things to do in Lake George.

Book an adventure with Adirondack Adventure Center – they’re the only company in Lake George with private access to the river, so you won’t contend with too many people during your trip.

Choose from an unguided float or opt to go with a guide who will be sharing some interesting bits about Lake George.

For something more adventurous during your Lake George vacation, I recommend whitewater rafting with the same company. It’s perfect for beginners as the lower-class rapids give you a taste of what to expect on more robust-class rapids.

To make a day of it, Adirondack Adventure Center also offers treetop adventures, with an opportunity to book two adventures at a discounted rate.

Ski on Gore Mountain

Looking for the best places to ski on your Lake George vacation this winter? Gore Mountain is the star of the show.

Gore Mountain is popular for alpine skiing and snowboarding, with a vertical drop of 2437 feet and 115 trails. It also has the most skiable area in the state, so you don’t have to worry about competing for space.

If you aren’t a fan of zooming down a mountain that steep, then opt for the North Creek Ski Bowl. It’s for cross-country and snowshoeing, which is less thrilling but still fun.

Tip: Warm up between runs with hot food and views of the High Peaks at Saddle Lodge or relax après-ski with some of the best tapas and drinks in town at barVino.

Join ATV and UTV Tours

No trip to Lake George is complete without an off-road adventure! Book a tour with Adirondack ATV Tours for a guided adventure over rugged terrain.

The best part? After a brief safety training, you get to drive your own UTV as you follow the guide car through the forest.

It’s a fun way to get your adrenaline pumping while you explore the natural beauty of the Lake George area.

ATV tours are open May and October and reservations are required. For the tour, you need to be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license.

You’ll likely get pretty dirty, so I recommend bringing a change of clothes if you plan to go anywhere else after the ride.

Explore Natural Stone Bridge and Caves

Last but not least, visit the Natural Stone Bridge and Caves while you’re in Lake George. The Stone Bridge here was carved out by Trout Brook and is the largest marble cave entrance in the eastern USA.

Natural Stone Bridge has several ways for you to dive into the ancient Adirondack geology:

  • Self-guided nature trail – perfect for a leisurely hike, featuring the massive Stone Bridge, Trout Brook, waterfalls, surface caves, and grottos. It’s a ¾ mile trail with over 500 stairs, and you can take your time, resting on the benches along the way. Takes about an hour to complete. .
  • The Adventure Tour – for thrill seekers only! This is a 3-4 hour cave crawl through sandy passageways, an underground waterfall, and more, finishing with a float through Garnet Cave. .
  • Two hiking trails – Catamount Trail (1.8 miles) or the Green Mountain Trail (4.6 miles), which both have amazing views and double as snowshoe trails in winter. These are 2 of 10 Chester Challenge hikes in Warren County.

Come aboard for a late afternoon into evening trip and enjoy the sunset. If you’d like, we can drop you at a lakeside restaurant for dinner as your boat awaits you for an evening cruise home. You bring the wine and cheese!

If you have something special in mind, we’re here to work through the details with you. Some suggestions might include watching a fireworks show from the lake, sunrise fishing excursions, or a visit to Lake George Village. Let’s talk!

17 Of The Best Things To Do In Lake George, NY

L ooking for things to do in Lake George, NY? This gorgeous lake in New York State’s Adirondack region is the perfect vacation destination. Whether you want to relax and chill or find new adventures, there’s something here for everyone.

I received free admission to some attractions in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.

One of the things I love most about a Lake George vacation is that there are so many things to do! Having spent all my childhood summers here with my grandparents, we were always taking boat tours, visiting historic forts and more. Now I’m carrying on the tradition and sharing these experiences with my own family.

One visit and I know you’ll love it as much as we do! If you’re planning your next family vacation here, these are just a few of the awesome activities you’ll find around the lake.

Up Yonda Farm

  • Horseback Riding

Lake George Village

  • Steamboat Cruise
  • Fort William Henry Museum

The Great Escape

Lazy river tubing, natural stone bridge and caves.

Located at the northern tip of Lake George, Fort Ticonderoga is the perfect place to give your kids a history lesson and have some fun at the same time. Situated between northern Lake George and the southern end of Lake Champlain, the fort played an important part in the Revolutionary War.

The fort is steeped in history and as authentic as you can get without a time machine! When you visit the living history exhibits, the shoemaker isn’t just demonstrating how shoes were made back in the 1700s. He making actual shoes in real time. These shoes are then worn by the soldiers and everyone else working at the fort.

The tailors? They’re making the uniforms, one piece at a time! Every person that you see in Revolutionary War attire is wearing clothing that were made on site.

Speaking of time, the year that’s being represented also changes regularly. This summer’s costumes and exhibits reflect life in the year 1774. However, visit next summer they’ll be sharing what life was like at the fort in 1759.

Exhibits include everything from art and dioramas to uniforms and weapons. There were plenty of hands on activities for the kids too. My 9 year old loved the scavenger hunt and both girls had a blast try to lift an old cannon (it’s heavier than it looks).

Kid will love the musket demonstration, where the soldiers show how they load and fire their weapons.

Just be sure to plug your ears!

If you want to learn even more about the fort, you can join one of their special tours. These include:

  • Ticonderoga Guns By Night : This 90 minute tour includes a dramatic nighttime demonstration of weapons. It’s a great tour for history buffs who want to learn more about how they were used during the French And Indian War to attack and defend the fort.
  • The Gossip Tour Of Fort Ticonderoga: This adults-only tour includes all the drama! From scandals and hijinks to unsolved crimes and stolen wives, you’ll want to leave the kids at home for this one.
  • Beneath Fortress Walls: Take a guided tour under the fort walls to learn more about the history of the building and re-building of the fort.
  • Cannon And Coffee Tour: This early bird program for those of you who like to start the day early! Tour the museums artillery collection and learn what it tells us about the history, technology and even art of the day. Coffee included!
  • Boat Cruises: When you’re done touring the fort, hop on a boat for a cruise up Lake Champlain. This 75 minute scenic cruise includes beautiful vistas of New York’s Adirondacks as well as Vermont’s green mountains. Along the way, you’ll learn about Lake Champlain’s maritime and military heritage and see underwater shipwrecks using sonar readings. Beer, wine, soft drinks, water and snacks are available for purchase on board

Fort Ticonderoga is open from May-October every year.

After you travel back in time at Fort Ticonderoga, you can take a trip to the future! Not far from Fort Ticonderoga, you can experience the final frontier with a Star Trek Original Series Set Tour .

Star Trek fans will love being able to walk through exact replicas of the sets from the 1960’s television sci-fi series. While the original sets were dismantled and mostly destroyed, that didn’t stop Trekkie James Cawley. He used the original blueprints from the show to rebuild these sets just as they looked during filming.

Plan your trip just right, you may even run into William Shatner. He’s been known to make special appearances from time to time.

You may also want to catch Trekonderoga, an annual fan favorite event. The 2021 event is scheduled for September 24-26 and includes a special guest appearance by George Takei, who starred as Lieutenant Sulu in the series and several Star Trek movies as well.

If you enjoy wandering through charming towns filled with quaint shops, galleries and restaurants, you’ll love the small town vibe of Bolton Landing.

You’ll find shops filled with antiques, crafts and even Christmas decor. When you get hungry, stop into Bolton Beans and have lunch in an old train car.

Bolton Landing is also home to the Sagamore Resort , the gorgeous lakeside hotel that also happens to be where my husband proposed to me! There’s no better place to stay on Lake George if you really want to treat yourself.

You don’t have to stay overnight to enjoy the Sagamore though. Drop in and dine at one of their award winning restaurants for a delicious lunch or dinner with a view.

Adirondack Extreme

If your family is into outdoor adventure, Adirondack Extreme Adventure Course should be at the top of your to-do list. I’ve done zipline courses from Sarasota, Florida to Costa Rica and this one is one of my all time favorites.

There are a variety of courses to choose from and you can upgrade for more extreme experiences. You’ll get the best of both worlds with the 3+ hour Treetop & Zipline Adventure Combo. For $58, it includes the first two adventure courses as well as the new Low Rider Zip Tour.

The scenic views that come with this aerial adventure course are part of what makes this course so amazing! We had the best time ziplining through the trees and over the babbling brooks. By the time we were finished, my girls were experts at navigating the swaying bridges high above the ground.

The courses offer 25+ obstacles that can be moderated in difficulty. The Low Rider Zip Tour is an introductory zipline course that’s perfect for both beginners and seasoned obstacle course adrenaline junkies!

Though it may seem dangerous, the course has a reliable safety system in place. The Clic It Smart Belay System is designed to ensure that you are clipped safely to the lines at all times. There’s also a 1/2 hour safety training where you’ll get to practice on the ground first.

NOTE : I don’t recommend this for anyone with a fear of heights.

Up Yonda Farm , in Bolton Landing, is an environmental nature center that all ages can enjoy. Families can explore the butterfly garden, go for a hike on 3+ miles of nature trails and learn more about Adirondack animals and more in the interactive museum.

Little ones can learn about the life cycles of butterflies, see how maple syrup is made or even get up close and personal with turtles and snakes. They’ll also love the treasure hunt, where they’ll need to search for five hidden geochaches which can then be turned in for prizes.

Finally, you can finish up the afternoon with a scenic picnic lunch by the lake.

Saddle Up Stables

What’s better than a family horseback ride? How about horseback riding with a lake view!

There are quite a few locations where you can ride, including Saddle Up Stables . Located between Bolton Landing and Lake George Village, it was voted “Best Of Lake George” for horseback riding in 2021.

Take one of their guided trail rides and you’ll get beautiful views of the lake and possibly deer and other wildlife too. Riders must be seven years or older but pony rides are available for the younger kids.

Check out this list of ranches for more riding options around the lake.

No trip to the lake is complete without a visiting Lake George Village. Located at the southern end of Lake George, this fun spot is where all the action is.

You’ll want to plan to spend the day because there’s so much to do here. Take a boat tour, explore a historic fort or wander through the House Of Frankenstein Wax Museum!

We had a great time just browsing the shops. There are shops selling crafts, souvenirs, clothing and even a Christmas shop.

There are multiple arcades and a small amusement park for the kids.

Shepard Park has a playground for the kids as well as an amphitheater where there are free concerts throughout the summer. We thought it was the perfect place to relax while we enjoyed our ice cream cones.

If you’re into fishing, grab your rod and reel and head to the public dock. Otherwise, just take a leisurely stroll down by the water instead.

There’s so much to see in Lake George Village you may just want to book a hotel and stay a few extra days.

Lake George Steamboat Tours

There’s no better way to the lake than from a boat and the Lake George Steamboat Company has lots of cool options. Located in the Lake George Village, you can choose lunch and dinner cruises, a cruise with a champagne brunch or even a Rockin’ Music Cruise with live music. Kids can set their inner pirate free on the pirate cruise, complete with loot filled goodie bags!

We took the one hour Minnie Ha Ha cruise. This authentic steamboat, complete with paddle wheel, is one of my favorite ways to tour the lake.

We spent half our time pointing out which lake houses we’d buy when we win the lottery! This was my top choice…what do you think?

The girls had fun checking out the engine room to see what happens behind the scenes.

Towards the end of the cruise, you’ll be treated to a song from the steam calliope. If you’ve never heard a steamboat playing a duet with its own echo, you’ve totally been missing out. Listen closely and you’ll hear the echo.

While our tour was only an hour, there are longer tours available. There’s even a six hour tour that takes you the length of the entire lake. Each cruise offers snacks and drinks (cocktails too) at what I thought were very reasonable prices. So sit back, grab a drink and enjoy!

Fort William Henry

While you’re touring Lake George Village, you may also want to check out Fort William Henry . Built in 1755, this British fort played a pivotal part in the French and Indian War.

While you’re learning the history of the fort, the kids may be invited to “join” the king’s army. They’ll be assigned a musket, a uniform and a certificate showing that they’ve enlisted. At the end of their “service”, they even receive a coin as payment.

Walk through the various museum exhibits, then watch live demonstrations of soldiers firing muskets and cannons.

You can also get a glimpse of what the soldiers must have seen as they defended the fort.

The fort is open from May-October every year and if you time your trip just right, you may even catch a live re-enactment of the Battle Of Lake George. The Fort William Henry Hotel is close by as well, if you’re looking for a place to stay.

Wine lovers will want to stop into the Adirondack Winery for a wine tasting.

Photo Courtesy of the Adirondack Winery

Opened in 2008, this popular winery was one of the first micro-wineries in the country. Though they started small, they now have thousands of visitors a year and are popular with both the locals and tourists.

Here you’ll find a variety of locally-handcrafted and award-winning wines. Enjoy a glass while you take in the beauty of Lake George and the Adirondacks.

Have the kids in tow? No problem! Children and strollers are welcome and there’s even a small kids corner so they can play while you sample.

Walk-ins are welcome but availability is limited so reservations are strongly encouraged.

There aren’t many activities more family friendly than mini golf (or as my family calls it, putt-putt). Goony Golf and the Around The World Golf Course are two of the more popular locations in Lake George Village.

Goony Golf is both whimsical and wacky, with silly animals, elves and even a T-rex.

The Around The World miniature golf course is filled with replicas of famous landmarks, so you can travel the world as you play.

Other courses include Lumberjack Pass and Pirate’s Cove so choose your favorite and have a little putt-putt fun!

If your family prefers to spend the day relaxing lakeside, you want to hit Million Dollar Beach in Lake George Village. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day, this is the biggest and most popular beach on the lake.

There are lifeguards, picnic tables (with grills) as well as a boat launch and boat inspection area. It’s a great place to chill for the day and just enjoy a little lake life R&R!

Note: Pets are not allowed so just keep that in mind if you’ve brought your furry friend on vacay with you.

Water Sports & Activities

The beach is nice but one of the best things about a trip to the lake is playing IN the water! Luckily there are no shortage of water sports and activities around Lake George.

Choose from jet skiing, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing and more. You can even go parasailing and enjoy beautiful views from high above the lake.

For a more laid back day, rent a boat and have a picnic on one of the many islands. You’ll find plenty of boat rentals available on the Visit Lake George page.

Hiking Trails

If you’re looking for more outdoor activities with the family, you don’t have to go far to find them. Hiking is another popular activity around the lake and there are no shortage of scenic trails .

These hikes are the perfect way to admire the natural beauty of Adirondack mountains up close.

Located just behind Lake George Village, Prospect Mountain is one of the top destination in the area for hiking. You’ll follow a marked trail for about three miles round trip and get some great views of the lake along the way.

The hike takes you through forests, past waterfalls and over streams. You may even run across the old cable incline railway, once the longest Cable Incline Railway in the world.

Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with spectacular views of Lake George and Vermont.

NOTE: This hiking trail is not recommended for younger children because of the steep grade in some areas. However, you can still drive to the top to enjoy the panoramic views.

We love theme parks and The Great Escape theme park is a fun destination for the whole family. Originally build as Storytown USA, it was one of my favorite places as a child. Back in the day, it had a Mother Goose storybook theme and was geared towards smaller children. Things have definitely changed a lot since then!

Close view on the construction of a large wooden rollercoaster

The name was eventually changed to The Great Escape and in the 90’s, the park was bought by Six Flags. Today you’ll find everything from kiddie rides to thrill rides and even a waterpark.

Photo Courtesy of The Great Escape

The lodge is open year-round and features an indoor waterpark as well. Howver, the theme park is closed during the winter months so you’ll want to plan accordingly.

While it’s not on Lake George, Tubby Tubes River Co. is located just five minutes from Lake George Village on the lower Hudson River. Here you can hop in an inner tube and take a lazy, two hour guided trip down the river.

Photo Credit Tubby Tubes River Co.

Life doesn’t get much more relaxing than this and it’s the perfect way to enjoy the Adirondacks! Upgrade to get a tube with a backrest or one to carry your cooler (alcohol is allowed as long as it’s not in glass bottles).

Photo Credit: Tubby Tubes River Co.

Located about 30 minutes from Lake George Village, the Natural Stone Bridge And Caves feature the largest marble cave entrance in the eastern U.S.

Photo Credit: National Stone Bridge Media Images

Take a self-guided above ground nature trail and wander by an old sawmill, waterfalls and surface caves. Explore the lighted caves and grottos to see tranquil pools and raging water.

In addition to the hiking, there are plenty of kid specific activities.Children can climb rock walls, mine for gemstones, take part in a dino dig and lots more. You could easily spend an entire day here.

There are so many things to do in Lake George area that even I haven’t done them all…yet! Which of these activities do you think your family would enjoy most? Do you have anything I should add to the list?
