A Rustic Farmhouse Christmas Home Tour
A very merry christmas home tour: a rustic farmhouse christmas & giveaway.
I am absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with an ahhhmazing group of bloggers to bring you all sorts of holiday home inspiration with the {Very Merry Christmas Home Tour} blog hop hosted by Lovey Etc. ! And did I mention, we’ll also be giving away $500?! Merry Christmas indeed!
If you’re new here, welcome, and thank you SO much for popping by!
I’d love to give you a bit of background about our home really quick. After spending the last five years in the mountains of southern BC, we moved back to our hometown in northern AB in early 2015. We were SO lucky to find an amazing house in a booming housing market – though it wasn’t exactly everything we’d dreamed it would be, we saw nothing but potential for what it could be. Since then, we’ve been hard at work renovating it all – one little room at a time. So far we’ve tackled our son’s bedroom, creating a {rustic cabin retreat} . We also JUST finished up our own {farmhouse style master bedroom} and I couldn’t possibly love it any more than I do!
This will be our first Christmas in our new (to us) home and, though I couldn’t be happier to spend it surrounded by our family, I found decorating for the holidays a bit difficult this year. Because our home is still so far from what we’ve been picturing in our heads (wouldn’t it be nice if we could all have our dream home with the snap of our fingers?), I found myself feeling challenged by the space we’ve got – challenged to work within it (we’ve got the most choppy floor plan), challenged to see past it (wishing I could have a Christmas tree in our front window instead of tucked into our back family room), and challenged to love it all decked out for Christmas ( ba humbug! ). Here’s hoping that by this time next year, we’re decorating a fully renovated main floor!!! (*wishful thinking)
Despite feeling a tad discouraged, I gave it my all and I have to say, I’m loving it just a little bit more now that my eyes are distracted by all that glitters!
I mean honestly, how can you hate a space filled with Christmas cheer?!
It may not be our dream home YET, but it’s sure feeling cozy this holiday season!
Welcome to our home…
This bench in our entryway has been the perfect spot to put on our snow gear each time we head out in the cold – it is Canada after all! I’ve tucked some vintage skis in the corner and draped them with some pretty little lights for a bit of holiday fun.
Our entryway passes right through to our back door and mudroom (I use that term loosely), which is home to this lovely old desk that belonged to my Mother-in-law. That friendly snowman was a gift from my first year of teaching and has sat in our entryway (all 5 of them now) every Christmas since! With a few extra ornaments tucked into a dish for good measure, I think this entryway gives guests a warm welcome to our home.
Just off of our entry is our front living room (otherwise known as the playroom for now). Though I couldn’t go too crazy with decor in this space – Carson would have had the tree redecorated twenty times over by now – I did spruce up our old wood burning fireplace.
Because most of our evenings are spent in the family room, I’ve tucked most of the decor into this space. It’s such an awkward layout and has been a very difficult room to decorate, so much so that I’ve pretty much ignored it until I pulled out our Christmas boxes, but it’s looking so cozy and inviting all decked out for the holidays!
Our tree is filled with all sorts of gold with a few natural, rustic touches thrown in.
I absolutely adore these DIY Farmhouse Style Stockings that sewed up a few weeks ago. I couldn’t believe each one took me less than 30 minutes to make!
Our gas fireplace looks so pretty topped with this DIY Rustic Christmas Card Tree and a couple of lanterns! And I love the snowy pine garland all lit up with little lights!
I couldn’t resist these gorgeous tartan pillows when I saw them on sale a few weeks ago. They’re backed with blue velvet and just feel so lux!
Lastly, I decked out this gorgeous shelf with a few extra odds and ends…
And, because it’s always so much cozier at night, I couldn’t resist snapping a few more pics for y’all…
It really is feeling more homey and cozy than ever and knowing that it will be filled with the people we love most in the world all season long makes me love it even more!
Thank you SO much for popping by!
And now my friends, we’re so happy to be offering up the chance to win $500 in Paypal CASH!

Primitive Folk Art by Old World Primitives
Handmade Primitive Dolls and Ornaments
Category: primitive home tour
Decorating for christmas… crafting for valentine’s day.
December is such a fun and festive month here… I love decorating my primitive twig tree, each year with a few more new ornaments than the last. I always keep some pine scented candles burning throughout the month to make it smell like we have a real tree. As I unwrap my winter folk art decorations and place them about the house, each one brings smiles and gets me in the Christmas spirit. Below are a few peeks at my primitive Christmas decor this year.
I have also been working on some new ornament designs for next year, beginning with Valentine’s Day. I added a new set of vintage style chenille cupid ornaments to my Old World Primitives Etsy shop today. They are ready for the season of love with their Valentine hearts and arrows.
Christmas Home Tour – Primitive and Victorian Decor
One of my favorite parts of the Christmas season is getting to see how beautiful my parents’ house looks all decorated for Christmas. My Mom spends 5 days putting all of her decorations out, plus a 6th day for decorating the tree. This year when I was at their house helping decorate the tree, I took a bunch of photos of their primitive and Victorian Christmas decor to share here. One day, I hope that my home will also look this nice.
Their Christmas tree is filled with so many wonderful antique and vintage ornaments. I have been adding more decorations to my primitive twig tree at my home too – I will have to post some updated pictures soon. It also now has 5 strands of antique glass bead garlands on it that my Mom pulled out of a box of antique Christmas decorations from my grandparents.
Primitive Christmas Winter Wonderland
I hope that everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving and enjoyed their holiday weekend. I spent quite a bit of time packing up all of the Halloween goodies in my home (well… most of them! some I love so much that they just have to stay out) and converting my decor over to Christmas and winter. Below are a few peeks at the fruits of my labor, featuring some of my favorite primitive Christmas ornaments and collectibles. I absolutely love burning holiday scented candles and lighting the fireplace during this time of year too.

Christmas Home Tour: In My Mother’s Maine Home
Welcome to today’s Christmas tour of homes, a home we inherited from my parents and have been renovating and redecorating, filled with antiques and years of beautiful memories.
It’s a very dear home to us, and you may see and learn more by visiting our Coastal Maine Home Tour .
Grab a cup of coffee or your favorite drink, and let’s get inspired together!
During my first year with this home for the holidays, I started a three-wreath front door Christmas tradition after finding this picture amongst my mother’s things from when the house was first built.
You may see each year’s front door wreaths in these posts:
But this year was the exception, as the handmade fresh wreaths I found at Sage Farm Antiques were so plentiful that our primitive front door could only handle two.
Since this is our second home and we don’t usually spend Christmas here, the Christmas tidings are simple yet cozy, warm, and inviting and will take us right into the cold and snowy winter Maine months ahead.
You may also find front door Christmas inspiration in this Front Door Ski Lodge Vintage Snowshoes too.
As we embrace this special time of year, one of the highlights is this coastal blue and white Christmas table setting that adds a festive touch to any gathering.
With years of age and tradition behind it, this elegant color palette brings a timeless charm, perfectly embodying the spirit of “Merry Christmas.” Whether you’re hosting your own annual Christmas tour or simply adding a new twist to your Christmas season decor, this table setting is sure to inspire a warm and welcoming celebration.
This year, thanks to my friends at Wayfair, our Christmas table is inspired by all things blue and coastal.
You may see more in the post 6+ Holiday Pointers for Setting a Coastal Tablescape .
I added several of my favorite Christmas home tour coastal elements, such as a basket of sand dollars, blue hydrangeas, tins with beach pebbles, old anchors, and more.
Antique Pewter
You may also enjoy seeing more of my mother’s extensive pewter collection displayed within this antique hutch to the left of the dining room table.
And this Primitive Decorating Ideas for Your Fall Dining Room from early on when we first inherited the home.

Also perfect for the holidays!
One of my favorite places to gather during the Christmas season is by our old colonial-style living room fireplace, where the warmth of a crackling fire brings comfort and nostalgia quality time.
Imagine sipping hot cocoas wrapped in a fur blanket, enjoying holiday treats at your own pace, as the little things like a festive touch of greenery and rustic decor transform the hearth into a cozy holiday family room haven.
This post, Christmas Old Colonial Fireplace, Hearth, and Mantel , features more of our Early American fireplace .
A Christmas mantle garland adorns the mantel with battery-operated white lights and pinecones.
Simple, yet festive.
Vintage collections and finds , such as my mother’s antique bugles, a Boston Rocker , and a vintage wooden horse, add charm and warm memories.
This post may contain affiliate links , which won’t change your price but will share some commissio n.
As we journey through this festive holiday season, the final stop on our Christmas home tour is a cozy Christmas guest bedroom that radiates warmth and cheer.
This time of year, nothing says “Merry Christmas” like a space that invites comfort and joy, offering your guests a retreat that feels like home. With twinkling lights, soft linens, and thoughtful holiday touches, creating a guest bedroom that’s as much fun to decorate as it is to enjoy will make their stay truly special.
A small thrifted Christmas flocked tree with battery-operated lights sits on the bedside table, along with a few wooden trees gifted by Wayfair.
Christmas bedding, fresh towels, and a plush bathrobe await our guest’s arrival.
You may see more of this guest bedroom decorated for the holidays in this 5 Cozy Cottage Christmas Bedroom Swaps post.
My friend Dawn at Everything Dawn makes these fabulous faux “Sugar Plum Fairy” cakes for the holidays. Well, really, she makes them for all the seasons.
Like this Pecan Pie on our dessert table this past fall.
And I just loved her Berry Mousseline Tarte displayed at our home in Maine this past summer.

Before leaving Maine and returning to Vermont for the holidays, I love stopping at one of my favorite local shops, Stonewall Kitchen’s flagship store.
