Starting Point

Description
Forever marred by their inglorious Nazi past, a string of sites with a connection to the Third Reich form the backbone of this tour. Your expert guide will bring these locations to life, as you take a deep dive into the pivotal role Berlin played in the rise and fall of the Third Reich.
You will follow the route of the advancing Soviet army towards the final battle for the Reichstag in 1945, and discover the remains of the “Thousand-Year Reich”: Goering’s Air Force Ministry, Goebbels’s Propaganda Ministry, and the ruins of Himmler’s SS and Gestapo HQ, now occupied by the Topography of Terror exhibition.
At the site of Hitler’s Reich Chancellery and the exact location of the Führerbunker, your guide will give you a blow-by-blow account of the last days spent underground in the bunker, Hitler’s suicide and the fate of his remains.
Germany’s courageous resistance movement carried out many heroic acts – your guide will recount the events of the day on which they set in motion their plan to assassinate Hitler, in a desperate bid to bring down the brutal Nazi dictatorship.
You will stand at the location of the last battle to be fought in Berlin before Germany’s unconditional surrender in 1945. The imposing Soviet War Memorial in Tiergarten commemorates the fallen Red Army soldiers, and its tanks and field artillery serve as a reminder of the ferocity of the fighting.
Finishing Point
The tour finishes at the Topography of Terror.

The tour was really very informative, explaining how Hitler and Nazi came into power and maintained absolute power throughout those years. Our guide, was really knowledgeable on the topic. I particularly like how he ended the tour with a thought provoking question on the line between reistance and acceptance.

Great walking tour.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and I could have spoken to him all day about this kind of stuff. The tour visited some great sites with interesting history with the bunker right at the end of the tour. The tour was paced well and there was plenty of time to ask questions.
Guide made the tour.
We had a great tour today with Insider. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, he struck exactly the right tone for such a delicate topic, he had a great sense of humor, and, above all, he left us with questions to keep pondering
Great experience.
Our guide Kai was very friendly and knowledgeable, spoke great English, and shared some really insightful and personal stories.
Recommended!
We had a great tour with Campbell. Lots of interesting facts, but also time for jokes. He took the time not only te guide us past the highlights, but also to explain the situation, the events in time that lead to the rise of the nazi’s. Also with much photo’s and illustrations to illustrate his story and eye for the little details along the way. It was an extremely cold and windy day, but even then it ended to soon for us. Would definitely recommend. 580fleurv

Berlin Third Reich Free Walking Tour
Adolf Hitler and the Nazis in Berlin
ABOUT THE Berlin Third Reich Free Walking Tour
On this 2-hour walking tour, an experienced local guide takes you through the heart of Adolf Hitler’s Berlin, and shows you the scars the Nazis’ reign left on the city. Discover how the Nazis came to power, learn about their victims through the memorials scattered through central Berlin, and visit what used to be Berlin’s Jewish Quarter.
Your Berlin Third Reich Tour meets in front of the Starbucks at the Brandenburg Gate (S/U-Bahn Brandenburger Tor) and it usually ends at the women’s protest memorial "Rosenstraße" (between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt). We never cancel; tours run rain, hail or shine.
The beginning of 12 years of terror
This 2-hour tour starts at Berlin’s iconic Brandenburg Gate, through which the Nazis held their victory parade when coming to power in 1933. From there, you’ll go to see the Reichstag – once again the modern-day seat of the German Parliament, but (probably) burnt down by the Nazis to gain total power in 1933.
The Nazi government district, and the memorials to their victims
Your expert local guide will then lead you through Berlin’s memorials to tell you more about some of the Nazis’ victims – Jewish, political, homosexual, Sinti Roma and Soviet. After that, you’ll venture towards the Nazi’s former government district, seeing where Hitler’s Chancellory once stood, and remnants of his bunker still remain underground.
Strolling through Berlin's former Jewish Quarter
To finish the tour, you’ll visit Berlin’s former Jewish Quarter, and learn more about the Nazi’s despicable treatment of the Jewish people. Stroll past the Old Synagogue, visit the former Jewish cemetery desecrated by the Nazis, learn about the remarkable women's protest, and and hear how the Nazis declared Berlin to be “Jew-free” in 1943.
The Berlin Third Reich Tour starts in front of the Starbucks at the Brandenburg Gate (S/U-Bahn Brandenburger Tor)
- See where Hitler's Chancellory once stood, and where parts of his bunker remain today
- Remember the Nazi's victims through the many memorials in central Berlin
- Learn about how the Nazis came to power, consolidated power, and eventually led the world into WWII
- Hear about the atrocities committed by the SS and the Gestapo
- Visit what was the Berlin Jewish quarter, seeing the Old Synagogue, and the street once called Tolerance Street, but later nicknamed Death Street
- Learn about the remarkable and brave women’s protest which saved the lives of their Jewish husbands

Third Reich Tour with Sam Noble
We had an amazing time on our Third Reich Tour with Sam. He was extremely intelligent and personable. He is very open-minded and challenged the group to think from their own opinions. If he was a college professor, I would have attended every class. He went out of his way to recommend restaurants and points of interest both in Berlin and other cites. Highly recommend!!
Third Reich Insight
This is the best way to get an insight into the mindset of the Third Reich. Great, knowledgeable guide. You really absorb the history better when you are actually where it happened. Great value for money.
Third Reich Tour
As well as a Sandemans free tour, we also booked the Third Reich tour. Our tour guide was Steve and his knowledge on the subject was outstanding. He showed us all the key sights and shared his detailed knowledge on each area, event or person involved. If this is a subject you are interested it then this tour is a must.
Third Reich Tour with Lizzie
I joined the Third Reich Walking Tour with Lizzie as our guide. Lizzie provided a lot of information, which made the tour informative and educational. Anyone who’s fascinated with war history would definitely appreciate this tour.
Wow! Amazing Third Reich Tour by Dani
I took the half day Berlin Third Reich tour with Dani and it was amazing. He starts by explaining the events which led to Hitler coming to power, which is great context for the rest of the tour. He was better and more engaging than many professors I have had. Part of me was dreading 3.5 hours in the cold, but because of Dani, it flew by.
The Incredible Third Reich
Today I had the pleasure to participate in the Third Reich Tour around Berlin - definitely a 'must see & do" experience in the city. Our guide was the young historian Daniel Punzón, a guy with a perfect English and sharp in local history. Loved the explanations, the enthusiasm, and the role tour. Thanks a lot, Daniel! Strongly recommended!!!

Introduction to Berlin’s Third Reich History
Before we delve into the tour itself, it is important to understand the context and significance of Berlin’s Third Reich history. The Third Reich refers to the period of Nazi Germany, led by Adolf Hitler, from 1933 to 1945. During this time, Berlin served as the capital and played a central role in implementing Hitler’s policies. Today, many historical sites exist that shed light on this dark chapter of human history.

The Best Walking Tours in Berlin
Berlin is a moveable feast. The sprawling German capital has remarkable restaurants (serving cuisines from all over the world), amazing bars, some of the best clubs in the world, cool third-wave coffee spots, world-class museums, an eclectic mix of architectural styles, one of the most diverse populations in Europe , and a real mix of quirky subcultures.
To help you explore this complex history, there is a legion of guided tours you can take to get an up-close and personal view of this Central European metropolis — from walking tours to eating to drinking tours to biking to driving around in a Trabant, the kitschy Communist-era cars. Walking tours are my favorite way to see cities because you have a local guide you around who can answer your questions and share their insider tips.
Here’s my list of the best walking tours in Berlin to help you make the most out of your time in this cool capital!
Best Overall Tour
Insider’s Third Reich and Cold War Tour
If you want to see Berlin’s main highlights and learn about the turbulent past of Germany’s capital, take this Third Reich and Cold War tour . Run by expert local guides, it’s the best-paid tour for budget travelers looking to learn more about Berlin, its violent and complicated past, and how the city came to be. I can’t recommend it enough!
Best Free Tour
This free two-hour walking tour starts at the iconic Brandenburg Gate and slowly makes its way around the main sites of the city, including the striking Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Hitler’s former bunker, a swath of the Berlin Wall, and Checkpoint Charlie, giving you a nice introduction on the 20th-century history of Berlin. Just remember to tip at the end!
Here are a few more walking tour options to help you make the most of your time in Berlin:
1. Original Berlin Tours
Meet at the fountain near the Park Inn on Alexanderplatz and get ready for a fun, free tour of Berlin. With groups of 10 people or fewer, these walking tours will ensure you have access to the guide as you make stops at Reichstag, the Berliner Dom, Checkpoint Charlie, and various World War II places of battle. 2. Secret Tours
Berlin has a lot of secrets — and Secret Tours wants to share them. Choose to head out to Teufelsberg , a Cold War-era base for US Army wiretapping programs on the edge of the former West Berlin; or explore Charité, the city’s weird and wonderful centuries-old hospital. You can also go on a walking tour through the backyards and courtyards of Mitte apartment buildings , an opportunity you would not get if you were trying to do it on your own. If you want something unique and niche, this is the company for you.
Tours from 20 EUR.
3. Trabi Safari
Tired of trudging through the city? Then hop in a Trabant, or Trabi, as they’re called in Germany. These diminutive automobiles were a Communist-era automobile staple in Germany. The body of the cars were made from plastic. Today they are a nostalgic symbol of the erstwhile East Berlin. And this tour company offers a drive around Berlin in a Trabi while you see the sights and learn about the history of the city. Best of all, you get your very own Trabi to drive during the tour.
Tours from 59 EUR.
4. Alternative Berlin Tours
If you’ve heard everything there is to know about Hitler and Bismarck and you want to skip the typical highlights and see a different side of Berlin, this free walking tour is for you. The informative guides regale tour-takers with stories about the squatting culture of the ‘80s and ‘90s, the legendary techno club scene, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and punk rock culture. Tours last around three hours and they end at a riverside “beach bar” where you can have a beer with the guide.
5. Fork and Walk
If you’re a foodie like me, this tour company does guided tours that combine food, street art, and history as well as tours for vegans (Berlin is one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the world). But if you take the “Trends & Classics” tour you’ll get to sample the iconic currywurst, sip some schnapps, drink some local brews, and eat German pastries, among other delectable things. Just make sure to bring an appetite!
Tours from 69 EUR.
6. Berliner Unterwelten
These fascinating walking tours take you underground. And I’m not just talking in metaphors. You literally stroll under the streets of Berlin, exploring various Cold War and World War II-era bunkers; gawking at the few remnants of Germania, the utopian metropolis that Hitler wanted to build; and walking through sub-terrestrial tunnels that were used for secret and nefarious purposes — including the tunnels that were dug under the Berlin Wall.
Tours from 16 EUR.
