WHATSINPORT.COM: YOUR CRUISE GUIDE TO 1200 PORTS OF CALL

Interactive world cruise map, home | cruise ships | port expenses | hints and tips, phuket thailand cruise port guide.

In general: On high season(November-April) you will be tendered to Patong beach(main tourist area) and on Monsoon season(May-October) you will be docked at Phuket Deep Sea Port at Ao Makarm. Overnight stops sometimes do both: tender you first to Patong and then reposition to the dock later. The dock only has one berth, so the use of tenders is more likely. The tender ride is about 1.5km.

Cruise ships dock at the Port of Phuket. It is a 20-minute drive to Phuket Town. Taxis or bemos (typical local transport) are usually available at the pier. Rates are relatively expensive and should be negotiated. It is suggested writing down the agreed price to avoid any dispute. There is not much around except for a temporary market set up by local people. Taxis to Patong Bay, a 45 minute drive will cost about $50 round trip. A taxi to nearby beaches will be around $10.

If tendered to Patong , it will be to the jetty opposite The Bliss South Beach Patong Hotel. There will be taxis waiting offering tours and sightseeing. If sea conditions require so, at times you will be tendered to another location. This is important if you have booked a local tour, so have a cell phone with you.

Sightseeing:

Thailand's only island province is connected to the mainland by the Thep Krasettree Causeway. Known as the "Pearl of Thailand," Phuket offers pristine beaches, lush vegetation, traditional villages and seascapes of huge limestone pillars that rise above the turquoise waters of Phang Nga Bay. With a land area of 215 square miles, Phuket Island is Thailand's largest island and about the same size as Singapore.

Arab and Indian navigators have called here since the end of the 9th century, while the first Europeans arrived in the 16th century. Apart from tourism, much of the province's wealth derives from tin production, which started back in the 1500s. In fact, this industry generated much wealth enabling Phuket Town to have the first paved roads and cars in all of Thailand. Even today, Phuket remains the center of tin production in the country, with rubber, coconut and seafood adding to the island's prosperity. Much of the revenue is reinvested to further develop Phuket. With a culture all its own, Phuket combines Chinese and Portuguese influences with that of the indigenous ocean-going people.

Phuket Town is the island's capital located in the southeast. It was built in the mid-1800s to replace the earlier capital of Thalang, which was destroyed by the Burmese in 1800. The architecture features the attractive Sino-Portuguese style, which is reflected in the spacious residences built by wealthy Chinese tin barons as testimony to their success. The majority of visitors come here because of the glorious beaches, especially those on the west coast. Patong Beach is about a 45-minute drive from the port and offers a wide selection of water sports. Although the influx of tourists each year exceeds the local population by far, the island seems big enough to absorb the large numbers and at the same time maintain a semblance of tradition and great charm. In fact, Phuket still casts its spell on all that come to its shores.

Beaches The areas of Kata, Karon and Patong feature excellent beaches. Patong is best known for its nightlife and souvenir shops, while Kata and Karon boast superior resorts and restaurants.

Marine Research Center and Aquarium The aquarium's exhibits are interesting examples of Phuket's marine life and its environment. Thalang National Museum The displays in this small museum provide insight into Phuket's history and culture. A majority of the exhibits refer to Phuket's tin industry. Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Park Located about 16 miles from Phuket Town, the park is a remnant of the island's natural forest ecosystem. A large variety of animals, including wild boars and monkeys lives in this natural habitat.

Tours Excursions Transportation:

A visit to Promthep Cape, then the ‘big Buddha’ near Chalong and of course an elephant ride are on many itineraries.

For a bit of island hopping the long tail boats are a great way to do so. Prices must be negotiated and are approximately 500 baht per hour or no more than 1,800 baht per day. Do not eat a large meal beforehand, as the ride will be bumpy.

Avoid taking the mini truck tuk-tuks since they will either overcharge or scam you.

Many resorts are near the cruise dock, where one can spend a relaxing day for a few dollars.

It pays to compare your cruise line tours here .

Nearby Places:

Shopping and food.

Boutiques and markets are centered around Time Square Mall. Good buys include Thai silk, cotton fabric and cultured pearls. The Native Handicraft Center offers a wide range of local handicrafts. Additional shopping is available at the new Wang Thalang shopping complex. Bargaining is expected at markets; better shops have fixed prices.

The local currency is the Thai Baht, which is divided into 100 satang. ATM's everywhere.

Communication:

Exotic mountain rocks coming out of the ocean in Phuket, Thailand

Pha Nga Bay has several karst islands that can be explored by longtail boat, including the sheer cliffs of James Bond Island, featured in "The Man With the Golden Gun." Some islands are shaped like doughnuts with shallow calm water inside, only reachable at low tide. Popular Phi Phi (pronounced "pee-pee") Island was featured in the movie "The Beach."

Snorkeling at Phi Phi Island, Phuket, Thailand

The waters surrounding Phuket have great snorkeling and scuba diving, thanks to the bay's warm, clean waters and lively marine ecosystems. Snorkel off the beach at Ao Sane, next to Nai Harn Beach, at Kata Noi or near Patong at Paradise Beach. Drift past anemones, parrot fish and various types of coral.

The big buddha statue at the temple, monastery in Phuket, Thailand

Above Nakkerd Hills is a 147-foot-tall white Buddha statue, which you can see from many parts of the island — hike up to the statue itself, which is surprisingly uncrowded. It's covered in Burmese white jade marble, and next to it is a smaller Buddha made from brass. The trek also comes with the bonus of breathtaking views down to the sea.

Local Cuisine

Sample Thailand's famous cuisine at street stalls or sit-down restaurants. If you're not sure what to order, ask for pad kra prao — stir-fried meat (usually chicken or pork) prepared with chili peppers and Thai holy basil. The level of spiciness can be tailored to your taste, and adding in a fried egg is optional — though highly recommended.

Traditional buddha souvenirs sold in Thailand

Silks are always a good buy in Thailand; choose from scarves in every color, pillowcases or clothing. Cruise to Phuket and pick up a carved elephant in wood, metal or stone. At home, place it facing a doorway for good feng shui .

Phucket Cruise ahoy

During the Monsoon season May – October, the shops would dock at the deep-sea port of Ao Makarm , the Deep-Sea Port of Phuket, about 8 km or 18 min by car from Phuket Town. When the ships overnight in Phuket, normally they would dock at Ao Makram and you would be taken to Patong Beach via a tender. The port is also about 50 min drive from Phuket International Airport, 43 km away. The port is lacking passenger facilities, however recently plans for a passenger hall and landscape improvement have been revealed by the Thai government. There are taxis waiting to pick up tourists from the pier, however make sure you practise your negotiating skills, as prices normally start quite high. There are “turf wars” between taxi companies in Phuket and normally you can pick up cheaper taxis, tuktuks and minibuses from just outside the port entrance.

Local Information

The local currency is THB (Thai Baht) and exchanging money is quick and easy. There are various currency exchange shops around Patong Beach, just check a few to compare the rates. You can exchange a small amount at the Airport, if arriving by air, and exchange bigger amounts at one of the shops. There are ATMs everywhere but bear in mind that you would be charged a fee of up to 200 Baht, separate from the fees that your bank will charge you for drawing cash in a different currency. Make sure you protect your pin number and notify your bank that you would be travelling abroad. There are more and more card companies that offer now free of charge services abroad. All major credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, upscale restaurants and shopping malls. You would need to pay cash for your taxi fare and at markets and street food stalls.

Opening hours and bank holidays . The usual opening hours in Phuket are from 10 am until 10 pm, seven days a week. The banks and post offices would be open from 8.30 – 9 am until 3.30 – 5 pm Monday to Friday with an hour lunch break at midday. Some bank offices in shopping malls would work with slightly extended hours. There are many supermarkets that are open until late, some of them are open 24/7. The same applies to street food vendors. You are likely to find food sold at any hour of the day or night.

Tipping in Phuket is not expected, but greatly appreciated. As a general guidance, don’t tip street vendors, leave the change at low-key family restaurants, about 10% at more upscale restaurants (but do check the bill first for service charges), round the fare for taxis, and tip the bellboy and the made at your hotel about 20-50 Baht per bag/ per day. Tip your masseuse, hair-dresser and tour guide 10-15% if they have done a wonderful job. Remember to always tip in cash, and only give money directly to the person you are looking to tip. If you leave loose change in your hotel room for example, the housekeeper is not likely to take it, as she may think you have simply left the money in the room for yourself.

The language , spoken in Phuket is Thai. The local knowledge of English is somewhat limited, but most of the locals know enough English words to understand what you are trying to say and give you directions, for example. Knowing a couple of Thai words, such as thank you (women must say “sawatdee ka” and men must say “sawatdee khap), “khun khap” or “ka” to get the attention of a waiter or respectfully a waitress, and “aroy” – meaning delicious, will be very appreciated and will make Thai people very happy.

Things To Do

ports phuket big buddha ahoy 200

A must-see is the spectacular statue of Big Buddha – the locals call it the Phra Puttamingmongkol Akenakkiri Buddha – quite the tongue twister, but no need to worry, everyone knows it as the Big Buddha. This fascinating structure was built in 2004 and is 25.5m wide and 45m tall, made by reinforced concrete, covered in White Burmese jade marble. It’s situated on the peak of mount Nagakerd, Subdistrict of Karon. It is possible to purchase a break of a marble tile, sign your name on it and it will be placed inside the Big Buddha forever. Apart from a place of worship, the statue is also a great viewpoint and picture opportunity. From the little square that surrounds it, you can see most of Southern Phuket, including Phuket Town, Kata and Karon beach and Chalong Bay. On a clear day you can see as far as Phang Nga Bay.

If you are interested in the history of Thailand and Phuket, make sure you take some time to go and see the Thalang National Museum . Now it’s closed for renovation until October 2018. The museum displays historic artefacts of the area to present the old days of Phuket. The exhibits are organised in four different themes: 1. Phuket Island and Early Inhabitant of the Andaman, 2. The Battle of Thalang, 3. The Chinese and Development of Phuket and 4. Phuket People. There are also exhibits, honouring the famous sisters Chan and Mook that led the people of Phuket against the invasion of the Burmese, and an exhibit on the sea gypsies – the original indigenous population of the island.

ports phuket wat chalong ahoy 200

There is a lot more to do in Phuket, time permitting. Explore the many and different beaches Phuket has to offer – from the buzzing and ever busy Patong beach through the quieter Karon and Kata Beach, to the tranquil and peaceful Mai Khao and Banana beach – there are more than 30.

ports phuket james bond island beach ahoy 200

If you are interested in the flora and fauna of Phuket, take some time to visit the Elephant Sanctuary where you can help look after the animals, or the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project – an organisation, working to rehabilitate gibbons, rescued from pet trade and the tourist industry. There is also plenty to see at the Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife park – the only significant virgin rain forest in Phuket and at the Marine Research Centre & Aquarium , where cuttlefish, seahorses and “Nemo” babies are growing up, before being released back in the ocean. Check out the Phuket Butterfly garden & Insect World for an opportunity to get close and personal with some colourful butterflies.

ports phuket simon cabaret ahoy 200

For that perfect social media picture, head over to one of the many viewpoints of Phuket. At Monkey Hill (named so because of the friendly macaques, fed by locals and tourists), you can see wonderful views of Phuket Town. At Promthep Cape viewpoint near Rawai Beach you can capture the best sunset-over-the-ocean pictures, make sure to arrive early as the place is very popular. At Khao Rang Viewpoint you can see some of Phuket Town, all the way to Chalong Bay and the Panwa Peninsula.

Phuket Thailand Cruise Port Guide

When you cruise to Phuket, you’ll uncover a celebration of Thai culture and traditions you must experience for yourself. Historic temples and 24-hour beach life coexist in beautiful harmony in Phuket, where locals welcome tourists with a friendly smile. In Phuket, the influence of Portuguese settlement is best seen in Old Town’s colorful shophouses, many of which are still being used today.

Head to Patong Beach when you’re ready for a day of partying or an all-night adventure. Venture out to Sirinat National Park for snorkeling in crystal-clear waters and spend hours admiring the vibrant coral reefs beneath you. Don’t miss the city’s most famous attractions, like the Big Buddha or the Wat Chalong, one of the biggest temples in all of Thailand. It’s a city that lives for good food, so even the tiniest street vendors make some of the most delicious Thai snacks you’ll ever eat. When stopped in the “Land of Smiles” from your Asia cruise , you’ll find yourself impressed by Phuket’s abundant nature, diverse food, and cultural sights.

Top sights & attractions for cruises to phuket, phuket town.

When the Portuguese came to Phuket in the 19th century, they built brightly painted buildings, called shophouses. The architecture here will make you wonder if you’re even still in Thailand. Phuket’s Old Town is a great way to familiarize yourself with the history of Phuket while popping in a local cafe, enjoying one of the art galleries, or getting cozy at a local bar.

Patong Beach

Looking for a lively beach to experience from your cruise to Phuket? Patong Beach is the place to go for partying and nightlife here. Bars, clubs, and restaurants are open late and get loud. Of course, there’s plenty of swimming, sunbathing, and shopping to be done during the day.

Phuket FantaSea

Good old-fashioned fun awaits at Phuket FantaSea, a 60-acre theme park and popular nighttime entertainment extravaganza in Phuket. FantaSea can only be described as over the top, featuring elephant performances, dancers, elaborate costumes, and trapeze artists. You can purchase a ticket to the buffet as well.

Wat Chalong

Don’t miss a tour of the historic and sacred Wat Chalong Buddhist temple, one of the biggest in Phuket. Climb up to the third story for a view, or simply walk through the temple and take in the gilded sculptures and colorfully painted interiors.

Learn More About Phuket Shore Excursions

Top things to do in phuket, see the big buddha.

Once of Phuket’s most iconic sights is the Big Buddha, a nearly 150 foot tall marble statue of Buddha. The view from where the Buddha sits is breathtaking, plus it’s one of Phuket’s most revered and sacred sites. Don’t miss an excursion here when planning your Phuket cruise packages.

Relax on Karon Beach

Several miles of golden sand and glamorous resorts line the shoreline of Karon Beach, which make it popular among travelers and locals. It’s less of a party beach than Patong Beach, so it’s the ideal spot to lay down a towel, crack open a beach read, and laze the afternoon away.

Snorkel the Waters at Sirinat National Park

When you’re ready to get away from the crowds and experience natural, undisturbed Thailand, head to Sirinat National Park for snorkeling in the bright coral reefs offshore. Take a secluded walk along the beautiful pine forests. You might even see turtles nesting while you’re there.

Take in Cape View

Promthep Cape is one of the most photographed places in Thailand, and the sunset unfolding across the cape promises to awe anyone who sees it. Enjoy the 20-minute trek to the southernmost point of Phuket, though note that the rocks can be slippery. Photos are a must at “God’s Cape”.

Culture & History of the Phuket Cruise Port

Thailand has a rich history, and Phuket has been known as its central trading port and one of its most welcoming cities. In the 1600s, Phuket was colonized by all sorts of groups at different times, including the Portuguese, British, and French. Over time, Phuket became a base for international trade and tin mining.

The nearby beaches attract visitors from all over Thailand, and when international tourism efforts doubled in the 1970s, Phuket quickly became a hub for backpackers and solo travelers. Buddhism is one of the central religious beliefs practiced in Thailand.

Phuket Port Facilities & Location

From your cruise to Phuket, you’ll dock at the Port of Phuket. It’ll take about 20 minutes to get from the cruise port to the city center. There are often shuttles available to take you to Ao Makam. Buses usually only run until 6pm in Phuket, so plan your return trip to the cruise port carefully. Because Thailand has boomed as a tourism destination in the last few decades, the bus and taxi network has grown considerably.

Transportation in Phuket

The town of Phuket is about a 20-minute drive away from the cruise port, and most cruise passengers take a cab or bus to get to the city when their cruise to Phuket docks. You can arrange to use the same driver throughout your day in Phuket if you wish, which tends to get you a better deal. Many visitors download the app Grab to hail a taxi.

Shopping Near the Phuket Cruise Port

Because of how popular Phuket has become, there’s plenty of outdoor markets and shopping malls to keep you occupied. Antiques and jewelry are staples at local night markets like the Phuket Weekend Market, where you can barter your way to a great deal on local goods, or just snack away at one of the many food stands. There’s also Phuket Walking Street in Old Town, where coffee shops, restaurants, and bars are ready to meet any craving. Plus, it’s a must-go spot for souvenirs to bring back after your cruise to Phuket.

Local Currency & Tipping Customs

The official currency used in Thailand is the baht. Exchange currency once you get into Thailand for a better exchange rate. ATMs are plentiful in Phuket, but will usually include a service charge. Credit cards are generally accepted in many places, but it’s good to carry cash with you, too. Tipping isn’t a common practice in Phuket, but rounding up to the nearest bill for your taxi driver is polite. When dining in high quality or expensive restaurants, it’s common to include a 10% tip of your total bill.

Phuket, Thailand

This island off the southwestern coast of Thailand is referred to as the "Pearl of the South." It is the country's largest island and possesses a varied terrain -- forested hills, rocky beaches and a fertile, tropical interior that supports cacao, rubber, pineapple and cashew production in addition to rice paddies. Motorcycle tours around the island are popular. See alligator, pearl and butterfly farms as well as all sorts of sea treasures at the Shell Museum. Besides the natural attractions, there are examples of Sino-Portuguese architecture in Phuket Town, harkening back to the island's 19th-century tin manufacturing boom. Thais are extremely proud of their culture and have several venues for showing it off to visitors: Thai Culture Show, Thai Village & Orchid Farm and Phuket FantaSea.

Seattle cruise port: A guide to cruising from Washington state

Seattle Waterfront - Drone Shot

If you're embarking on a round-trip Alaska cruise, you will likely be departing from the Port of Seattle. In 2023, seven cruise lines based ships in Seattle, Washington, with 291 departures. Although most ships were headed to Alaska, cruises from Seattle also sailed to destinations like Asia, Hawaii and the Panama Canal .

Seattle is home to two cruise terminals. Both are easy to reach from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) or Seattle Paine Field International Airport (PAE). Once you arrive, dozens of points hotels are available to welcome you for a pre- or post-cruise stay.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

If you're cruising in and out of Seattle, here's what you need to know.

Airports near the cruise port of Seattle

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is located 14 miles from the Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66 (a 30-minute drive, traffic-depending) and 17.4 miles from the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91 (a 35-minute drive).

SEA is the largest airport in the Seattle metro area and is served by Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines and United Airlines.

Seattle Paine Field International Airport (PAE) in Everett is 24 miles from the Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66 (40 minutes, depending on traffic) and 25 miles from the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91 (42 minutes).

The airport has only two gates, and Alaska Airlines is the only operator. Most of the cities served are clustered in the west. You'll find flights to and from destinations such as Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Honolulu.

If you're flying with a plus one, you might be able to save on airfare with a companion pass. Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card holders receive a companion fare certificate on their card's anniversary, entitling them to a companion ticket on Alaska Airlines for just $99, plus taxes and fees from $23 (as long as they spend a minimum of $6,000 annually on the card).

For those flying into SEA, the Southwest Companion Pass entitles a companion to accompany you on unlimited Southwest Airlines for just the price of taxes and fees. The Southwest Companion Pass is earned through flying on the airline, eligible spending on a Southwest cobranded credit card or a combination of both.

Delta also offers a companion ticket as a perk for holders of select credit cards .

If you're carrying a credit card with lounge access, Seattle-Tacoma is the better bet with 10 lounges. Seattle Paine Field has none.

SEA's options include three Alaska Airlines lounges (which are also open to American Airlines Admirals Club members) and a United Club, Delta Sky Club and British Airways Terrace Lounge. In addition to the airline lounges, the American Express Centurion Lounge welcomes holders of select credit cards, including The Platinum Card® from American Express and Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card .

How to get to the Port of Seattle

cruise port phuket

There are several ways to get from the airports to the Bell Street Terminal at Pier 66 or Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91, including:

Cruise line transfers

Most cruise lines offer transportation to and from SEA or local hotels for an added cost. Sometimes, the service is reserved for cruisers who purchase flights through the cruise line. For example, Carnival Cruise Line advertises shuttles starting at $37.99 per person from SEA to the cruise port for passengers arriving by noon on embarkation day.

At this time, no cruise lines offer transfers to/from PAE.

Hotel shuttle services

If you're looking for hotels near the Seattle cruise port with a shuttle to the cruise terminals, you'll find several downtown. Most charge $10-$20 per person for the service.

If you're on a mission to earn more Marriott Bonvoy points, the SpringHill Suites Seattle Downtown/South Lake Union offers a package including an upgraded suite, complimentary breakfast and transportation for two to the cruise terminals. If you're loyal to the Hilton Honors program, the Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Tacoma International Airport contracts shuttle service to the cruise ports for $27 per person each way or $50 round-trip.

Independent airport shuttle services

Companies like Premier Airport Shuttle offer shared or private transportation from SEA to the cruise terminals. Shared shuttle service starts at about $33 per person in each direction, while private transfers for up to 20 passengers start at about $320.

Taxis and ride-hailing services

Ride-hailing services like Uber or Lyft can be summoned from either airport. This is another opportunity to maximize your credit card benefits since the Chase Sapphire Reserve® offers 10 points for every dollar spent on Lyft rides (through March 31, 2025) and the Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card includes perks like unlimited 10% cash back with Uber (through Nov. 14, 2024).

Uber and Lyft prices are highly dynamic, but you can expect to pay $70 for each direction to and from SEA, or $100 to and from PAE.

Taxis aren't readily available at PAE, but you'll find them on the third floor of the SEA parking garage adjacent to the ride-hail pickup area. Flat-rate taxis charge $40 to carry passengers from the airport to the hotel district. Flat rates aren't in effect to the cruise terminals. Metered rates in Seattle are $2.60 for the meter drop plus $2.70 a mile. (The 17-mile trip from SEA to Pier 91 should run $48.50 in a metered cab, but extra passengers, alternative routing and other considerations can raise the rates.)

Private car or van service

Private cars or vans can be scheduled to or from either airport. Options include Blacklane , with prices starting at about $108 in each direction from SEA to the cruise ports (including pick up in a luxury vehicle and a meet and greet at baggage claim). The same service to or from PAE starts at about $130 in each direction.

Public transportation

Unfortunately, public transit doesn't reach the cruise terminals, but Light Rail provides transportation from SEA to West Lake Station in downtown Seattle. From there, it's usually an 8- to 15-minute Lyft or Uber ride to the cruise terminals. One-way tickets are $2.25-$3.25 per person and trains depart every 15 minutes.

To reach the light rail station at SEA, head to the fourth floor and cross the sky bridge into the parking garage. Next, follow the signs and painted pathway to the train. Shuttle service is available for passengers with disabilities from 5 a.m. until midnight. Call 206-787-4069 or 206-787-5906 to request service.

Cruise port of Seattle parking

cruise port phuket

On-site parking

The Bell Street Cruise Terminal parking garage is right across from the cruise terminal. Enter from Wall Street and follow the signs to the parking area. Parking costs $23 per day, with a $1 per day discount if you prepay online.

The Bell Street parking garage offers more than 1,500 covered parking spots, including 25 accessible parking stalls, and can accommodate vehicles with a maximum clearance of 6 feet, 6 inches. Vehicles exceeding this height should park at Pier 91, and taxi vouchers will be provided to get you back and forth to Pier 66.

The Smith Cove Cruise Terminal Lot D parking lot at Pier 91 has 1,100 secure parking spots, including accessible stalls available on a first-come, first-served basis. General parking is $29 a day, with a $1-per-day discount if you prepay online.

In addition to serving passengers departing from Pier 91, Lot D is the parking lot for RV and oversized vehicles at both piers. Fees are $60 a day for vehicles less than 40 feet, and $65 per day for vehicles larger than 40 feet. RV parking isn't guaranteed unless reserved and prepaid online. If your cruise departs from the Bell Street Cruise Terminal, the cashier will issue taxi vouchers for your return.

Park-and-cruise packages

Depending on the length of your cruise, select Seattle hotels allow you to leave your car while you're at sea (although most charge a fee). Fans of the Accor Live Limitless loyalty program should consider the cruise package at the Hotel Andra Seattle. The package includes 50% off valet parking, complimentary parking during the cruise and a one-way shuttle service for two from the hotel to the cruise pier.

Hotels near the Seattle cruise port

cruise port phuket

Seattle has an outstanding lineup of points hotels. The best redemption deals are usually found near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. It's roughly a half-hour from the cruise terminals without traffic, but the trade-off might be worth it for some travelers.

Visitors planning to explore Seattle before or after a cruise should base themselves downtown for easy access to the waterfront, restaurants, shops, museums and attractions like Seattle Center and the Space Needle. As a bonus, many of the best Seattle hotels are a 5- to 15-minute drive from the cruise terminals.

Hilton hotels near Port of Seattle

Hilton Honors members are spoiled for choices in Seattle. The Hampton Inn Seattle-Airport is a great option for travelers looking for a quick place to catch some shut-eye the night before the cruise (34,000 to 50,000 Hilton Honors points per night). Amenities include a free hot breakfast and complimentary shuttle service to or from the airport.

For Hilton hotels closer to the cruise terminals, Hilton Seattle (50,000 to 70,000 Hilton Honors points per night) is only 1.4 miles from Pier 66. If you've got time to explore the city, the property is a mile from the 5th Avenue Theater, Pike Place Market and light rail.

For luxury travelers, Hotel 1000 LXR Hotels and Resorts (70,000-90,000 Hilton Honors points per night) is a gorgeous hotel with views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Even the bathrooms are a showstopper with glass walls (and privacy shades). Hotel 1000 is roughly a half-mile from Pike Place Market and the Seattle Aquarium and a short walk to dozens of restaurants. The hotel is 1.2 miles from Pier 66.

Marriott hotels near Port of Seattle

Keep your Marriott Bonvoy loyalty number handy because Marriott hotel brands are located throughout Seattle. You'll get a lot of bang for your buck at the Aloft Seattle Seatac Airport (22,000-40,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night), especially if you don't want to rent a car. Amenities include complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport and shuttle service to the cruise terminal for $20 per person. (Make arrangements at the front desk at check-in.)

If you plan to play tourist in the Emerald City, the Courtyard Seattle/Downtown Pioneer Square (30,000-54,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night) is in a historic building within walking distance of the Pike Place Market, stadium, art galleries and the waterfront. The hotel is 1.6 miles from Pier 66.

It's hard to beat the location of the Seattle Marriott Waterfront (50,000-84,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night). The hotel is right across from Pier 66, and passengers can walk to the terminal via crosswalk or sky bridge. This is a great option for families since you're steps away from top waterfront attractions like the Seattle Aquarium and the Seattle Great Wheel.

Seattle is famous for seafood served at upscale restaurants, sushi counters and casual poke joints. Dungeness crab, salmon and oysters on the half-shell are staples all over the city, especially near the waterfront.

Head to Pike Place Market for a culinary tour of the city. In addition to vendors selling flowers and handmade crafts, you'll find bakeries, breweries, sit-down restaurants and quick eats like hot dogs or chowder. While you're there, don't miss the chance to watch fish being thrown to delighted customers at Pike Place Fish Market.

If you see a long line outside Pike Place Market, that's probably tourists waiting to place an order at the original Starbucks. If you are a huge fan of the chain, the wait might be worthwhile, but the coffee here is the same as in any Starbucks location. If you'd rather skip the line, head to Storyville Coffee on the top floor of the corner market building for an excellent cup of locally roasted coffee with stunning views of Puget Sound.

You can spend a lifetime visiting Seattle without running out of new experiences. Outdoor recreation, museums and kid-friendly attractions are available in equal abundance. If you've built in time to explore the Emerald City before or after your cruise, here are a few of the best things to do in Seattle.

Spend the day at Seattle Center

Seattle Center is home to iconic attractions like the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden and Glass, the Museum of Pop Culture, and the Pacific Science Center. The grounds are especially rewarding for families, who will find the International Fountain splash park and the Artists at Play playground with a 30-foot tall climbing tower, labyrinth, musical instruments and an accessible carousel powered by humans.

Marvel at the Hiram M. Chittenden Ballard Locks

The locks are a wonder of engineering connecting Lake Union to Puget Sound. Every day, spectators gather along the sides to watch everything from kayaks to enormous commercial ships pass through the locks. Other points of interest here include a fish ladder, a colorful botanical garden and a visitor center.

Embrace Seattle coffee culture

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery in the Capital Hill neighborhood is like Disneyland for coffee lovers. Book a tour, schedule a class with a barista or sip on signature drinks you won't find anywhere else. The aromas alone make the visit worthwhile.

Explore the waterfront

Even if you do nothing more than gape at views of Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains, Seattle's waterfront is worth exploring. This is also the home of the Seattle Great Wheel, Seattle Aquarium and a host of unique souvenir shops. Afterward, make your way to Pike Place Market for a bite to eat.

Eat lunch in Seattle's Chinatown-International District

In Seattle's Chinatown-International District, seductive aromas waft from every doorframe. Dumplings, noodles and baked goods beckon from dozens of restaurants. Do yourself a favor and place small orders in multiple eateries, so you can sample as much as you can.

Shopping near the Port of Seattle

Whether you want to shop for souvenirs or add a few items to your cruise packing list , Seattle's got you covered.

For cruise essentials like toiletries and snacks, head to Target on 2nd Avenue near Pike Place Market. If you hold the Target Circle™ Mastercard , you'll get a discount on most purchases.
