From the moment you step on board Azamara Quest you’ll notice the difference; there’s a genuine sense of warmth among the staff. This small ship also has great food, as well as itineraries with hideaway ports and overnight stays. So it’s ideal if you want to see more of the world.

Azamara Quest is easy to get around and it never feels crowded. That’s because it has lots of relaxing lounges and public spaces.

However there are things worth knowing, like how the room you choose can change your cruise experience.

  • Outstanding shore excursions.
  • Overnight stays in port.
  • Great food.
  • Friendly staff.
  • Some might not like aspects of the accommodation.

Is Azamara Quest luxury?

Azamara is a luxury cruise line. It has very good food, friendly staff and up-market, resort-style amenities.

Does Azamara have formal nights?

No, there are no formal nights on Azamara cruise ships.

What is the average age on Azamara Quest?

Most of the guests on Azamara Quest range in age from 35 to 75-years old.

Are drinks included on Azamara Quest?

Non-alcoholic and a selection of alcoholic beverages are complimentary. More alcoholic drinks are available for purchase, or as part of a premium beverage package.

Does Azamara Quest included gratuities?

Yes, gratuities are part of your cruise fare.

The Azamara Quest deck plan is easy to get around. There are a total of 8 passenger decks, the highest of which is deck 11.

  • Reception : Deck 4
  • Accommodation : Decks 4 to 9
  • Main dining room : Deck 5
  • Theatre : Deck 5
  • Observation lounge : Deck 10

Azamara Quest is an R-class cruise ship that was built in France in 2000. It sailed for the ill-fated Renaissance Cruises until 2001, then entered service for various other companies before joining Azamara Club Cruises (as the cruise line was then known) in October 2007.

The Grand Staircase on Azamara Quest.

Azamara Quest is small enough to slip into rarely visited ports, yet big enough to cross vast oceans. It is 180 m. / 593 ft. long with room for 686 guests (double occupancy).

Azamara Quest was refurbished in 2016, although some public areas (like the boutiques) have been updated more recently. The decor is modern and smart, yet it retains a classic elegance.

The food on Azamara Quest is delicious. What’s more, there are five restaurants to choose from including a main dining room, a buffet, a poolside grill and two speciality venues. There is also a cafe for light bites.

The Aqualina Restaurant on Azamara Quest.

The Italian-inspired Aqualina has tasty Mediterranean Sea Bass with Sauté of Shrimp, Calamari & Scallop. We rate the Prime C steakhouse as the best restaurant on board. It serves excellent cuisine including Crab & Lobster Cake with Pineapple-Papaya Salsa & Fennel-Aioli as well as a succulent Chateaubriand.

Chateaubriand as served in Prime C on Azamara Quest.

The Discoveries Restaurant is the main dining room. The menu spans the globe with dishes like Thai Tom Kai Gai,  Zagreb-style Pork Steak and Baked Cornish Hen. We enjoyed al fresco dining at The Patio ; especially the mouthwatering Seared Red Snapper with Saffron Rice, Caper & Lemon Butter Sauce. The Windows Cafe has a casual buffet, with seating indoors or on the aft-facing terrace. It’s a lovely venue, but that said the food was not always impressive. Light bites are available in the popular Mosaic Cafe on deck 5.

The nightlife on Azamara Quest is ideal for small-ship cruising. Unlike larger ships the entertainment experience is intimate, but there are also fewer entertainment options. That said, we really enjoyed the resident pianist who played in Spirits bar each night. He added a great vibe to the place.

Azamara Quest cast members on stage.

There are shows in the Cabaret Lounge most evenings. Though on my review voyage these shows were mostly underwhelming, in spite of the talent of some cast members.

A three-piece band and vocalist also perform sets in The Living Room on deck 10. They are great fun and on my voyage were enormously popular! You can request songs or just settle in and enjoy the nightly play-list.

The Azamara Quest nightclub opens late in the evening with a D.J. who plays until the small hours.

The staterooms and suites on Azamara Quest were refurbished in 2016. They look smart and modern. Although we thought the lighting was somewhat dim.

The cheapest rooms onboard are Interior Staterooms . These do not have a view, but they are nonetheless comfortable. Azamara Quest also has Ocean View Staterooms with a porthole or picture window, but lifeboats can obstruct the view.

An Azamara Quest Veranda Stateroom.

Most guests stay in Veranda Staterooms . They are modest in size, but have a comfortable bed as well as a good sized veranda.

You can upgrade the Veranda Stateroom experience by choosing a Veranda Plus option. The room itself is identical, but you get perks like internet, laundry and specialty dining inclusions. There is also priority embarkation and debarkation, not to mention complimentary in-room spirits.

An Azamara Quest Continent Suite.

However, luxury cruisers are sure to prefer one of Azamara Quest’s suites. We stayed in a Continent Suite on our Azamara Quest review voyage and loved the big veranda, not to mention the designer bathroom. There are also Spa Suites , Ocean Suites and Owner’s Suites , all of which have separate bedrooms and living areas.

However, perhaps the best thing about staying in a suite is the butler service. The butlers can book restaurants and shore excursions, plan an in-suite party, serve afternoon canapés, or even pack luggage. We think the butler service is a real treat.

Destination experiences are what make Azamara Cruises truly unique. Indeed, the shore excursions on Azamara Quest are among the best at sea. They are highly curated, often small group, explorations designed to give you a genuine introduction to the local culture.

A Land Rover drives through the hills of Bali, Indonesia.

There are rickshaw rides to local markets, guided tours of religious sites and speedboat jaunts to white-sand beaches, just to name a few. On my review voyage I climbed on board a Land Rover for a trip to the UNESCO listed Rice Terraces of Bali, Indonesia. It was an incredible travel experience made more so by a visit to a small village where an old woman cooked sweet Indonesian treats for us.

Azamara Quest has more activities than you might expect for a ship of its size. Among the most popular of these is the White Night party; everyone enjoys a meal al fresco on the pool deck with live entertainment and later, dancing. There is also the AzAmazing Evening . It is a signature shoreside event showcasing local art, culture and music. We were saw a spectacular performance at the at Binh Quoi Village in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Performers on stage at the at Binh Quoi Village in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

There are more typical shipboard activities as well, including lectures from guest speakers, wellness seminars, bridge, trivia, ping pong and darts. Other activities include dance classes, a free Captains Welcome Toast, jewellery making and fashion shows. Also, books can be borrowed from the ornate library.

The library on Azamara Quest.

There are also get-togethers for friends of Bill W and Dorothy, as well as solo cruisers. They are great ways to strike up new friendships. You can read about all the activities in The Insider newsletter each day.

An Azamara Quest cruise has more inclusions than comparable cruise lines. Gratuities are included, so too are most meals,  as well as wine and non-alcoholic beverages.

Signature events like the AzAmazing Evening and White Night party are also complimentary.

A free shuttle bus service is also provided between the port and downtown.

In addition, there is a free self-service laundry. Although guests staying in Veranda Plus staterooms and Suites get a free laundry allowance.

It’s worth noting that speciality dining and internet access are not part of the cruise fare, unless you stay in a Veranda Plus Stateroom or Suite.

Also, premium beverage packages are available for purchase. These let you enjoy a wider selection of alcoholic drinks.

Azamara Quest has a resort-style dress code – think friendly yet sophisticated.

During the day guests wear shorts, jeans and T-shirts. However, it’s worth remembering that tank tops, baseball caps, bathing suits, shorts, and torn jeans can’t be worn in any of the restaurants.

In the evening the Azamara Quest dress code is still resort-style, but on my voyage most guest dressed more smartly; usually slacks and a shirt for men, or slacks or a skirt, and a blouse for women.

There are no formal nights on Azamara Quest.

Azamara Quest has a loyal following. Indeed, on my review voyage there were lots of return guests.

Most of those guests are aged from 35 to 75-years old. In fact, Azamara Quest is not child-friendly; there are no activities for children.

The majority of guests come from the USA, but there are usually Britons, Canadians and Australians on board as well.

Azamara Quest is gay-friendly.

With overnight stays and outstanding shore excursions, Azamara Quest is ideal for those with a passion to explore. What’s more, this small cruise ship goes places others don’t. Combined with excellent dining and a friendly on board atmosphere, it makes Azamara Quest a great cruise experience.

Like its sister ship, the  Azamara Journey , Quest appeals to travelers seeking an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. According to recent cruisers, the 702-passenger vessel is small enough to provide individualized service (thanks to its excellent crew-to-passenger ratio) but large enough to offer seven dining venues, including two specialty restaurants. The ship underwent a refurbishment in 2021; the remodel added modern amenities, furnishings and European linens. There are now a number of large staterooms and suites with verandas, so guests can get picturesque views while sailing.

The ship's staterooms include flat-screen TVs, minibars and 24-hour room service. Suites offer additional perks, such as 240 free internet minutes and complimentary seating at the ship's specialty dining restaurants. Cruisers can also spend time at the spa and fitness facilities, which previous passengers described as modern and comfortable.

Onboard entertainment includes seminars and wine tastings, among other enrichment programs. At night, passengers can sip cocktails in The Den lounge. On top of all that, itineraries that are seven or more nights include a complimentary night experiencing local culture in a port, known as AzAmazing Evenings.

Azamara Quest's itineraries feature stops across the Mediterranean, Europe, Africa and South America.

77 new itineraries for Azamara in 2026, incl Solar Eclipse options

Five new ports of call, new pre/post cruise options from reykjavik and athens.

Go back to the e-newsletter

Azamara Cruises has unveiled its 2026 summer sailings, featuring 77 new itineraries that will take guests to captivating destinations, iconic landmarks and ports of call that delight and inspire.

Azamara Journey ®, Azamara Quest ® and Azamara Onward ® will all spend the summer season in Europe, spanning the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, including extended time in Greece, Ireland, the British Isles and more.

Standouts amongst the new itineraries include three solar eclipse cruises in August 2026, offering guests a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view the spectacular natural phenomenon from sea.

“At Azamara Cruises, we’re always striving to deliver new and incredible experiences for our guests,” said Michael Pawlus, Head of Itinerary Planning at Azamara Cruises . “The rare opportunity to include solar eclipse sailings in 2026 is very exciting and we are thrilled to deliver such a unique offering.”

Additionally, Azamara Cruises will add five maiden ports to the European line-up in 2026 – only accessible to smaller ships – and the debut of new pre– and post–land programs.

These sailings will continue to offer more late nights and overnights than any other cruise line, the boutique small ship cruise line says.

The maiden ports are: Sarande in Albania; Fredericia, Denmark; Turku, Finland; Menton, France and Karlskrona, Sweden.

“Europe continues to be a leading destination for us globally, so we are delighted to be announcing one of our biggest European deployments to date,” adds Pawlus. “With three ships in the region from March to October 2026, we can offer our guests more options than ever before; taking them to ports less travelled and hidden gem destinations and delivering new immersive land experiences for the very first time.”

Solar Eclipse Cruises:

  • 2 August 2026 – 11-night Mediterranean Cruise: Greece, Turkey and Italy, Azamara Onward
  • 7 August 2026 – 12-night Ireland Intensive Cruise: Belfast, Dublin and Galaway, Azamara Quest
  • 8 August 2026 – 18-night Iceland and Canada Cruise: Reykjavik, St. John and Quebec City, Azamara Journey

New Pre- and Post- Cruise Land Programs:

Icelandic Highlands, Reykjavik, Iceland

  • This 3-night program offers an immersive discovery of Iceland’s natural wonders, including its world-famous waterfalls, hot springs, and the county’s remote highlands. Highlights include the stunning Kerid Crater, the iconic Gullfoss Waterfall, and the colorful mountains and glaciers of Kerlingarfjöll Highlands. Travelers will have the opportunity to explore the Central Highlands further with a guided hike along one of Iceland’s most scenic and colorful trails – the Hveradalir Hike. Next, it’s a trip to the relaxing Secret Lagoon of Fludir before heading to Fridheimar, a popular lunch spot for locals and tourists alike, where guests will be met by a family who introduce them to their market greenhouse production and indulge in their famous all you can eat tomato soup. The program concludes with a visit to the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, famed for its place on the Golden Circle, as one of the three most popular natural attractions in Iceland.

Ancient Wonders of Egypt & Greece – Athens, Greece

  • Throughout this 3-night program, guests will explore the history and ancient civilisations of Egypt and Greece. In Cairo, highlights include the lively Khan El Khalili Bazaar, the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Great Pyramids of Giza, followed by a dinner cruise along the River Nile, accompanied by local performances. Once in Athens, travelers will have the opportunity to visit Cape Sounion to see the Temple of Poseidon, a must-visit for its historic ruins and scenic views of the Aegean Sea. Additionally, the program includes a city orientation of Athens, an authentic Greek dinner and traditional folkloric dances, at one of the oldest taverns in Plaka, as well as a trip to the Acropolis and the new Acropolis Museum.

Azamara guests can take advantage of an Early Booking Bonus, receiving 20% off on all summer 2026 cruises booked before 31 October 2024.

In the summer of 2026, Azamara Pursuit ® will embark on an exciting new itinerary that will see Azamara Cruises visit one of the world’s top bucket-list destinations, renowned for its natural beauty and diverse range of wildlife. Further details will be released in the coming weeks.
