... six self-guided walking tours of Paris organized around six eras of Paris history and architecture. The walks are free, fun, and easy to follow. They’ll help you explore the city of Paris, and its many layers of history, at your own pace.

Most Paris walking tours are organized geographically around particular sections of the city. They usually cover a lot of historical territory and can get a bit overwhelming at times — too many people, events, and building styles — from too many centuries — all jumbled together.

These Paris “history walks” are different . They’re organized historically around eras of Paris history. As a result, you can focus — on common historical themes — a limited cast of characters — and buildings with similar architectural styles.

The walking guides for these walks are easy to print out, fold up, and take with you.

• Each guide begins with some historical background for the walk you’re about to take. Short summaries focus on politics and economics, religion and philosophy, architecture, and urban growth and development.

• You’ll also find a walking tour route map, detailed descriptions of the buildings and monuments on the tour route, walking directions, information on opening times and admission fees, and lots of photos.

To get started , just click on one of the pictures or titles to the left. The link will take you to an overview of that walk, and a quick list of information you’ll need to plan your day. From there, all you have to do is click on and print the Guide and Map pdf and you’re on your way.

Best walking tours in Paris

Hit all the main sights in one go

1.  Hit all the main sights in one go

One for the newbies: this two-hour tour will take you to all the big Parisian landmarks. Think Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, all in a smaller group setting. It’s even led by a clued-up guide who’ll keep you informed as you go. Or you can just Google stuff along the way instead.

Time Out tip:  Be sure to wear something that covers your shoulders and knees, as certain pit stops are places of worship and can deny entry if you're too exposed.

Ramble around hilly Montmartre

2.  Ramble around hilly Montmartre

Immerse yourself in la vie bohème – Bohemian Montmartre is one of Paris’s most charming (and historic) areas. This tour will take you around the hilly northern district, stopping at cool shops and some of the finest food spots in the area. Of course, you can expect the odd historical anecdote... or three.

Time Out tip: Make sure your camera's fully charged, as atop the highest hill in the city lies some of the best panoramic views Paris has to offer.

Stroll through streets rich with criminal history

3.  Stroll through streets rich with criminal history

True-crime fans will love this historical crime Paris walking tour. Embrace the Parisian streets from a different, slightly eerie, perspective. Join the darker side of Paris on a walking tour learning all about the dangerous past of the criminals who roamed the streets before you. Visit sites of executions, stroll the routes known for dodgy dealings, and discover the maze of side streets – the helping hand for criminals to outrun the law. Hold onto your purses.

Time Out tip:  Listen out for the surprising facts and shocking anecdotes your clued-up guide has up their sleeve.

Delve into the depths of the Catacombs

4.  Delve into the depths of the Catacombs

You know, like that film? One of the French capital’s eeriest attractions, these underground  ossuaries hold the remains of more than six million Parisians. Your guide will fill you in on the long and storied  past of this spooky subterranean cemetery. Definitely one for fans of spine-chilling adventures.

Time Out tip: You can opt for a hosted tour, which comes with a 30-minute briefing outside the catacombs, or dive straight in with a self-guided audio tour.

Explore Paris by night

5.  Explore Paris by night

This late-night tuk tuk tour will introduce you to the city just as it starts to get dark – you’ll journey along the Seine, around the courtyard of the Louvre, and then pay a visit to some lesser-known (and largely tourist-free) attractions.

Time Out tip:  This is the perfect tour to do with your significant other if you happen to be on a couples holiday.

Walk in the footsteps of Coco Chanel

6.  Walk in the footsteps of Coco Chanel

Fashionistas can see Paris through the eyes of one of the 20th century’s greatest designers. The tour will begin at Coco’s favourite café, Angelina – renowned for its hot chocolate. Then you’ll venture on to Rue Saint-Honoré, where Chanel lived, and see the site of her first shop (which remains today). Lastly, you can rummage through a vintage shop in the hope of scoring some old-school designer goods.

Time Out tip:  The audio guide set-up of this tour means you can begin at any time and go completely at your own pace. All you need to do is download the VoiceMap app.

Spy some stunning street art

7.  Spy some stunning street art

For something beautiful and slightly less touristy, take a moment to admire the in-your-face artwork lining walls all over the city. Learn about some of the capital’s most well-known street artists, and discover the techniques they use to scale those mighty Haussmannian façades. Make sure to bring a camera, you'll have heaps of good photo ops.

Time Out tip: Make the most of your local, knowledgeable guide by asking as many questions as you like.

Satisfy your sweet tooth

8.  Satisfy your sweet tooth

Treat that sweet tooth with a delectable tour of the city’s most impressive chocolatiers. Learn all about the history of confectionery in Paris by visiting some swanky sweet shops along the Right Bank and, best of all, get your sticky mitts on some freebies. Our pro tip: wear elasticated trousers and thank us later. Bon Appétit.

Time Out: Be sure to get your fair share of hot drinks, with tea, coffee and even hot chocolate available.

Whizz round the coolest kid-friendly sights

9.  Whizz round the coolest kid-friendly sights

It can be hard keeping the tots entertained when you’re in a new city. But we've got you covered. This fun tour caters to families with young children, with light commentary, frequent breaks, stops for food and a playground included in the route.

Time Out tip:  You'll be able to secure some amazing family pictures on this tour worth hanging up at home.

In Paris there's a palpable feeling of history, as befits a city over 2000 years old. In its earliest days it was the often-reluctant host to the Celts and the Romans . Paris as we know it today was largely formed in the Middle Ages , in the subsequent royal periods, and by the two Napoleonic emperors. To delve into this story, we recommend these history-themed walking tours. Let's strap on our history boots.

1. The Graves of the Rich & Famous

Pere Lachaise Cemetery

You may think that a history walk through a graveyard is a bit… unusual. We did, until we signed up for this tour of Père Lachaise Cemetery. It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable walking tours we have ever been on.

We learned so much about the history of Paris and the fascinating cast of character who are buried here. Just read this list — Oscar Wilde, Chopin, Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, Gertrude Stein, Marcel Proust, Molière, Proust and Balzac, famous star-crossed lovers Heloise and Abelard. You know that guy who popularized the eating of potatoes (they used to be considered poisonous)? He's here, too! Highly recommended by us and hundreds of other visitors who've rated it 5-star.

2. The French Revolution Walking Tour

The French Revolution walking Tour in Paris

Tumultuous, revolutionary, horrifying and uplifting — the French Revolution was one of the most important events in modern European history.

As you visit the historic sites an expert in French history explains the French Revolution, the events leading up to, and its consequences. The tour visits the site of the former Tuileries Palace; the site of the infamous Bastille prison; the Conciergerie, where Marie Antoinette was held; and other sites of historic note.

3. Tour Napoleon's Paris

Napoleon Tour with an Historian

Following the French Revolution was another era of great importance to France — the Age of Napoleon . Bonaparte made it his job to aggrandize Paris, to turn it into a worthy capitol of his empire. Hence, there is a lot to see from the Napoleonic era.

With an expert historian as guide you'll visit sites important to that era, including L'École Militaire , Place Vendôme, and Les Invalides. This is a small-group tour to ensure individual attention.

Art Nouveau Walking Tour of Paris

This historical walking tour focuses on the second half of the 19th century when Art Nouveau was in vogue. Along the way an expert in the period makes it all come to life.

Of course, the centerpiece of Art Nouveau in Paris is the Palais Garnier (photo above), the sumptuous opera house built during Haussmann's reconstruction of the city, and that's also a centerpiece of the walking tour, although there's plenty more, including impressive Gare Saint-Lazare. You visit a traditional brasserie (and have a quick drink) and stroll along vibrant Boulevard Haussmann.

Tour description

Ah, Paris, the capital of elegance, chic, love, art and science. Its architecture and ambiance are truly iconic, and its people famous for their achievements and... sense of pride. The city rose from its humble beginnings as a marshland settlement, became a Roman colony, seat of the early Frankish monarchs to finally set trends as the biggest medieval city in Europe. Home to many revolts and societal changes, it evolved as the capital of the free thinkers and... the most famous revolution changing the political landscape of the western civilization forever. With its final overdo in the 19th century, its elegant boulevards became a go-to model for many other cities. Today, Paris retains many of its fortes, adding a spice of modernity. All this can get a little overwhelming, so why not have a helping hand while diving in? Walkative will grant you that and much more, with our local guides taking you on a fascinating journey through Paris most important monuments and histories, including:

  • ︎Hotel de Ville(Paris City Hall)

Historic Paris Tour

historical tours paris

Elegant and monumental 19th century boulevards, medieval churches, the world’s best art museums, unbeatable spirit of its inhabitants and a delicate (or perhaps quite pronounced!) sense of superiority, that’s Paris! Welcome to the world capital of class, elegance, fashion, love, art and amazing cuisine! Occupying this spot continuously since the 17th century!

But Paris wouldn’t be all that without its history. Established on a marshy land surrounded by the river Seine by the brave Gallic tribe of Parisii, taken in a bloody battle by the mighty Roman Empire. It became a capital of the Franks in the 6th century and soon grew to be the political, economic, religious, and cultural (with the second-oldest university in Europe, la Sorbonne) centre of France. With a population of 200 thousand people, Paris was the most populous city in Europe in the medieval ages. Torn by wars with external enemies and internal religious massacres, with time it experienced a true explosion in the field of science and philosophy, becoming the very centre of the Enlightenment movement. Fed on new ideas, but most of all on extreme poverty and inequality, its people found in them the power to overthrow the royal regime, which ended up in the monarchs being finally guillotined. This in turn opened the way for Napoleon seizing power in the country and way, way beyond! People of Paris were (and are!) known for revolting so often that in the 19th century in order to prevent them from doing so a new city was built with wide boulevards, aqueducts, sewers and parks to both appease them and… make it harder to build street barricades. The symbol of its modernization became the Eiffel Tower constructed for the 1889 Universal Exposition, which Parisians hated and protested for decades, only to love it in the end.

On top of all the architectural, cultural and spiritual marvels of the city there is something you simply cannot miss – the wonderful food and wine which can be the sole reason for visiting Paris and France! So, before you go and have a picnic in one of the splendid city gardens, indulge in all the fromage, baguette and wine you can have, join our tour to get the perfect introduction to the incomparable Paris! See among others the Notre Dame Cathedral, Sainte-Chapelle, beautiful and elegant boulevards and bridges, the Louvre and the Tuileries Gardens with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Hear the stories of Quasimodo, Napoleon and Hitler and learn about their connections to the city of love and light. Hear stories about the most daring art theft in history (yes, we are talking about the Mona Lisa), love, desire, and revenge. Get to know Paris at its finest!

During this 2,5 hour tour, you will see and discover:

  • ︎Hotel de Ville(Paris City Hall)
  • Notre-Dame Cathedral
  • Sainte Chapelle
  • Conciergerie
  • Pont des Arts
  • Louvre (history of the palace and museum)
  • Carrousel Arch
  • Tuileries gardens
  • And much, much more!

Private Paris Tours, Chronologically

Home » Private Historical Paris Tour

The first Parisians left no enduring structures where they lived on the  Î le de la Cité, but they gave us the name from their own, the Parisii. Their Roman conquerors changed it to Lutèce, which did not last, but even today there are original Roman buildings to see: baths, an arena, streets and the crypt of a temple underneath the plaza in front of Notre Dame Cathedral, where we begin this private historical Paris tour—back where Paris itself began.

Jean Androuet de Cerceau's Hôtel de Sully, one of dozens of sumptuous private mansions in the Marais district of Paris, 1624-1630

Picture circles emanating from a stone dropped in a pool of water, and you have the necessary image to conjure each succeeding era that developed the city and added its own style. From Philippe Auguste’s wall in 1190 to Philippe le Bel’s Great Palace in 1298, to the Louvre that evolves over eight centuries, this historical Paris tour progresses smoothly out from its medieval heart and successively reveals renaissance Paris in the Marais, the Paris of Henri IV, Louis XIII and Richelieu, into the golden classical age of Louis XIV and XV, through the havoc of the Revolution, into the neo-classical era of Bonaparte, the 19th century Paris of Charles X, Louis Philippe and Napoleon III, into the 20th century of Art Deco, Art Nouveau and all the way into the 21st century. Each of these eras contribute to what we call today’s modern, functioning Paris.

This private historical Paris tour will not only reveal to you the logical evolution of the City of Light, it will explain how and why each neighborhood acquired its unique character, and treat you to the stories and anecdotes relating to its key personalities, which makes it comprehensible and brings it all to life. At the end of our Paris Tour, Chronologically, you will have insights into the city that many do not acquire in years of living here.

Interested In Our Historic Paris Tour?

You will also be able to easily find your way about the city. Better yet, you will have identified what interests you most about this fascinating city, and where to concentrate your remaining time in the City of Light.

“Shahin, Just a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed the tour of the Loire Valley [Custom Loire Valley Day Tour from Paris of 2 chateaux and 1 wine estate]. Let me start by saying the best part of the trip was meeting you and listening and learning about the history of France and specifically Chenonceaux. Your comments and guidance throughout the day made the experience far more than just a sight-seeing trip. Lunch was great and so were Amboise and the wine tasting. I can’t thank you enough for putting this tour together for us, we will enjoy the memories for years to come. Merci beaucoup,”

Lucy Davidson

12 sep 2021, @lucejuiceluce.

From impassioned revolutionaries and ostentatious royals to the world of ancient Gaul, the history of Paris is filled with drama, intrigue, and excitement. Thus it is of little surprise that this is not only one of the world’s most beautiful and romantic cities, but that it is also brimming with fantastic historic sites.

There’s a host of top historic places in Paris to explore. Among the very best are the world famous Musee du Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and Sainte Chapelle. Other popular sites include Notre Dame, Les Invalides, and Pere Lachaise Cemetery.

Here’s our pick of 10 of the city’s must-see sites.

historical tours paris

1. Les Invalides

Les Invalides was originally built by the order of Louis XIV as a hospital and home for ailing soldiers. Following its initial construction, several further additions were made to Les Invalids, including a chapel in 1679 and the striking Dome Church or ‘Église du Dôme’, which incorporates the royal chapel built by Louis XIV and completed in 1706. Today, this iconic building is made up of several buildings and now stands as the largest complex of monuments in Paris, including its comprehensive military museum, Musée de l’Armée. Les Invalides operates numerous types of tours, including those specifically dealing with historical, cultural or artistic issues. There is even a tour dedicated entirely to Napoleon. The multimedia presentation on the life of Charles de Gaulle is also worth seeing.

2. Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris

Notre Dame is a world famous gothic cathedral in Paris’s fourth arrondissement. Notre Dame is still an operating church, but visitors are also welcome to tour the building and appreciate both its beauty and sheer size. Some of the highlightsinclude its stained glass windows, gothic architecture and many sculptures. Free tours are conducted throughout the year.

The nearby tower outside the cathedral is also worth a visit. Dating back to the 13th century, it houses the 17th Century Emmanuel Bell as well as Viollet-le-Duc’s 19th century chimera and gargoyles. Those feeling particularly fit can climb its 387 steps for magnificent views.

3. Sainte Chapelle

Sainte Chapelle is a gothic church built by Saint Louis in Ile de la Cité in the centre of Paris. Construction began in 1246 and was carried out with the specific purpose of housing the relics of the Passion of Christ, including the Crown of Thorns and a fragment of the true cross. The relics are now housed in the Treasury at Notre Dame but there are still many attractions in Sainte Chapelle. With its two impressive upper and lower chapels and imposing gothic architecture, Sainte Chapelle a top tourist attraction.

Audio tours are available guiding visitors through and explaining the significance of its colourful stained glass windows and statues. In particular, the windows at Sainte Chapelle depict over a thousand images relating to the Old Testament and the Passion of Christ.

4. Pere Lachaise Cemetery

Pere Lachaise Cemetery was established by Napoleon I in 1804. From singer Edith Piaf, novelist Marcel Proust and impressionist painter Camille Pissarro to playwright Oscar Wilde, an array of famous figures are buried there today. One of the most popular graves at Pere Lachaise Cemetery is that of The Doors’ front man Jim Morrison, probably attracting the largest number of visitors, but all of the graves are fascinating, including those of the regular citizens.

Maps are available to buy at the entrance, but you can also use the directories on the grounds. Overall, Pere Lachaise Cemetery is a peaceful and interesting way to spend an afternoon.

5. The Eiffel Tower

The iconic Eiffel Tower is an imposing iron monument on Paris’ Champ de Mars by the river Seine. The Eiffel Tower was built between 1887 and 1889 based on the design of engineer Gustave Eiffel, after whom the tower was named.

Today, the Eiffel Tower is a tourist hotspot and visitors can climb or use the lifts to reach the first or second floors, the latter of which is 115 metres high. The most expansive views can be found on the Eiffel Tower’s third level at 276 metres, which has its own separate lift from the second floor. A backstage tour is available, which details the workings of the Eiffel Tower and its history.

historical tours paris

6. Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles was originally the hunting lodge of France’s King Louis XIII, but was transformed into a magnificent residence by his son and successor, Louis XIV. The ostentatious monarch built the Grand Apartment of the King and Queen which included the magnificent Hall of Mirrors before moving both his court and the government of France to Versailles in 1682. It remained so until the French Revolution from 1789.

There are numerous places to visit at the palace and a range of tour options, while audio headsets are a better option for some. When visiting the Palace of Versailles, you can also see Marie Antoinette’s estate and The Grande Trianon.

historical tours paris

7. The Pantheon - Paris

The Pantheon was built as a result of King Louis XV’s determination to create an edifice to the glory of St-Genèvieve, the patron saint of Paris. The Pantheon’s crypt is now the burial place of many French icons and bears the inscription ‘Aux Grands Hommes La Patrie Reconnaissante’, meaning “To the great men, the grateful homeland”.

Those buried there include Rousseau, Émile Zola, Victor Hugo, Voltaire, Jean Moulin, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, and the architect of the Pantheon Jacques-Germain Soufflot. In fact, Soufflot died before the Pantheon was completed, meaning that his vision of a semi-gothic building with elements of basic principals was somewhat compromised. Guided tours of the Pantheon are available and last approximately 45 minutes.

8. Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe is a 162 foot monumental arch in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle. It was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806, shortly following his victory at Austerlitz, with the aim of commemorating French soldiers, particularly those who fought in the Napoleonic Wars.

Visitors can climb to its peak for magnificent views or enter the small museum inside it, both of which are included in the entrance fee. A further attraction at the Arc de Triomphe is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which commemorates those who fought in the two World Wars with an eternal flame.

historical tours paris

9. La Conciergerie

La Conciergerie is located on an important site which once formed the seat of the city’s Roman leaders during their occupation of Gaul. La Conciergerie itself originally formed part of thirteenth century Palais de Justice, the royal palace built by King Philip IV.

It served this role until the 1350’s, when the French royals moved to the Louvre. Visitors to La Conciergerie can enjoy its impressive medieval architecture, such as its large Hall of the Men at Arms and its history, both royal and as an instrument of punishment. Its original torture chambers can still be viewed.

10. Place de la Concorde

Place de la Concorde in Paris was the site where King Louis XVI was executed on 21 January 1793. Place de la Concorde became the focus of the executions of France’s elite during the Reign of Terror, a period of exceptional violence during the French Revolution. Over 1,300 people were executed here, amongst them Louis XVI’s wife Marie Antoinette and even leading revolutionary figures such as Danton and Robespierre.

Today, the site is  home of the Luxor Obelisk. This monument was gifted to the French by the viceroy of Egypt in 1833 and it once formed part of the ancient Luxor Temple.

20 Best Culinary Experiences and Food Tours in Paris

By Lindsey Tramuta and Catherine Down

20 Best Culinary Experiences and Food Tours in Paris

With a reputation so synonymous with food and wine, it’s no wonder Paris is a destination for all manner of gastronomic experiences. Want to bring home a piece of French heritage, or taste it all while you're here? You’ll find it all in quirky bottle shops, specialty coffee roasters, a subterranean winery, and even an English-language cooking school. Whether you’re angling for bottles of bubbly, cheeses and jams, or more one-of-a-kind pantry items, we have you covered. These are our picks for the best places to snack, sip, learn, and, then souvenir shop.

Read our complete Paris travel guide here.

Every review on this list has been written by a Condé Nast Traveler journalist who knows the destination and has visited that activity. When choosing things to do, our editors consider landmarks and experiences that offer an insider’s view of a destination, keeping authenticity, location, service, and sustainability credentials top of mind.

La Cuisine Paris cooking classes France

La Cuisine Paris Arrow

Cooking classes and food tours at La Cuisine, a recreational English-language cooking school, sell out fast, so be sure to reserve in advance for the three-hour macaron-making class. Ours had just eight people—meaning there was lots of room to move about comfortably in the large classroom, which is well-equipped with professional cooking gear, plastic aprons, and a large dining room table. You'll mingle with enthusiastic home cooks, some of whom have tried (and failed) to make macarons before and others making their first attempt.

La Grande Epicerie de Paris Arrow

Le Bon Marché's flagship food emporium underwent massive renovations in recent years and is even more expansive than ever before, with nearly 3,000 square meters of retail space and some 25,000 products. It's a veritable food lover's food store; additionally, there are several spots to eat on-site, including in the massive wine cellar with more than 3,000 different wines. You'll spend hours browsing the artisanal goods, colorful produce, and more.

Ritz Paris Le Comptoir Arrow

If the culinary vision of Auguste Escoffier established the Ritz Paris as a dining institution more than 120 years ago, it’s the creative talent of François Perret, the hotel’s pastry chef since 2015, that has anchored its role as food destination today. That was clear from the chef's grand Tea Time menu and plated desserts at the hotel and now it's clear from Le Comptoir, the hotel's pastry shop helmed by Perret. The peach-colored shop features a long molded counter and brushed brass alcoves filled with giftable items, from candles to Champagne, a leather banquette for on-site snacking, as well as a striking series of curved Bohemian crystal light fixtures that nod to the chef’s signature treat: the madeleine. We advise you leave with a collection of Perret's signature Madeleines (keep in mind, he rolls out limited edition varieties at major holidays), the cake marbré, and one of the cake shakes (although perhaps it's best not to consume all of these at once).

Galeries Lafayette Le Gourmet Arrow

Galeries Lafayette Le Gourmet is the food hall associated with—and across the street from—Galeries Lafayette, the iconic Parisian department store. It's its own four-story temple that's completely dedicated to eating, drinking, and home goods. You can really do a number on your credit card statement at Petrossian's caviar restaurant or at Maison de la Truffe, which specializes in (what else?!) truffle-infused dishes, but your best bet is to head straight to the Alain Ducasse chocolaterie for a box of stellar bonbons or a hefty jar of homemade Nutella.

Paname Brewing Company Arrow

Although Paname Brewing Company was started by Michael Kennedy of the expat bar The Moose, this microbrewery stands out thanks to its historic location: an old granary along the banks of the Bassin de la Villette. Be sure to sample the craft beers from Paname’s brewers—on a recent visit, there were as many of 11. There’s a pub menu of wacky pizzas, burgers, the standard cheese and charcuterie plates, and less expected options like shrimp curry.

Julhès Paris France Shop Exterior

Julhès Arrow

Julhès is a series of family-owned specialty food shops that have lined the rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin in the 10th arrondissement since 1996. With its multiple storefronts side by side, convivial family ownership, and lengthy history in the area, Julhès feels like the mayor of that stretch of street. The three associated shops along the same street are loosely divided into a boulangerie/patisserie/traiteur (bread, sweets, and cooked foods), an epicerie/fromagerie (cured meats, condiments, cheese, and booze), and a market selling international foods, antipasti, snacks, and (more) booze.

Les Caves du Louvre Arrow

Les Caves du Louvre, run by the team at Ô Chateau, a well-known Paris wine bar, is an underground wine-discovery center in the 18th-century wine cellars once used by King Louis XV’s sommelier. To visit is to tour five rooms to learn the basics of terroir, smelling, tasting, labeling, and bottling wine. Entry is 29 euros for a self-guided tour (done with the Les Caves du Louvre app) or 36 euros for a guided tour in English, tasting included. If you've purchased a Paris Pass sightseeing card, you can gain free admission for a guided tour and tasting of three basic wines.

Printemps Paris France Rooftop

Printemps du Goût Arrow

The focus in the gourmet food hall in the historic Printemps department store is French goods, which certainly will capture the attention of tourists and locals alike. You name it, you can find it on the 7th floor: small candied hazelnut producers from the Périgord region, artisanal jams, mustards, and other spreadables, teas, herbs, spices, and so much more. Head to the 8th and 9th floors to pick up specialty fresh foods or stay for a light snack or a full meal: here, you’ll find an outpost of Supernature, a vegan and vegetarian restaurant with terrace seating, Le Marché Dans le Ciel, a fresh produce market, pastries from Nina Métayer, and Perruche, a rooftop bar and restaurant with 360° views of the city.

TAKA & VERMO - Artisans Fromagers Arrow

Taka & Vermo prioritizes cheeses made with raw milk, cheeses made by traditional methods, and cheeses from artisanal producers, but it also offers some modern house creations, including a fresh goat’s cheese topped with yuzu confit and lime zest. An on-site cave for affinage (cheese ripening and aging) allows the cheesemongers to be more creative with their stock. Evening classes—including one about pairing sake and cheese—underscore the shop's commitment to pushing the envelope.

Terroirs d'Avenir Arrow

You’ll find products from Terroirs d’Avenir all over the city, often without knowing it, as the shop started as a food supplier to star chefs and restaurants. It's now branched out to offer the same quality products to customers at a butchery, poissonnerie, bakery, and grocery, a retail quartet perched along rue du Nil in the 2nd arrondissement. The butcher shop works exclusively with whole animals, and offers a range of game birds, specially cured dry-aged grass-fed steaks—hard to find in France—and rare poultry.

Image may contain Glass Alcohol Beverage Liquor Beer and Whisky

Maison du Whiskey Arrow

Maison du Whisky is a leader and standard bearer in importing and distributing whisky throughout France. There are two boutiques within Paris and two abroad; additionally, the company distributes to bars, hotels, and restaurants in France and throughout Europe. Inside, the shops look like the modern and more streamlined version of a wood-paneled library—you know, the kind where you’d retire after dinner for cigars and cards. Most people come to Paris to drink wine, but if you’re a whisky drinker with cash to spend, this is the place for you.

OPHE Paris France Shop Interior

O/HP/E Arrow

O/HP/E is a silly name, but it also gets right to the heart of what's sold in this elegant little concept shop; that is, objects, homemade pâtisserie, and épicerie. In the housewares section, you’ll find a carefully curated collection of pretty paper goods, guide books, notebooks, coffee equipment, and modern decor. In the épicerie, stock up on hard-to-find honeys like carrot or coriander, English jams, and containers of O/HP/E’s house cookies. The café, meanwhile, serves homemade sweets, coffee from Terre de Café, P&T teas, Sassy ciders, and juices from Borderline.

Laurent Dubois fromager cheese display

Laurent Dubois Arrow

This is the flagship location for award-winning fromager and affineur Laurent Dubois, who has been awarded the rare honor of Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF), which distinguishes him as one of the best in his industry. The cheeses are displayed as beautifully and pristinely as jewels in a case. You'll find an exceptional selection of top-quality cheeses, many of them aged on-site by Dubois and his staff, plus dairy products like yogurt, butter, and crème fraîche.

La Liquiderie Paris France Wine Store Exterior

Liquiderie Arrow

There’s a little something for every beverage drinker at La Liquiderie: obscure American and European beers, hard cider from small producers, natural and biodynamic wines, fancy British sodas made with fresh fruit, and bottled iced teas. Some of the most expensive items in the shop are imported bottles of beer from North America, the U.K., and Scandinavia—a rare treat for Parisians. There's also a good selection of French beers.

Belleville Brulerie Coffee Roasting Machine Paris France

Belleville Brûlerie Arrow

Although you’ll find Belleville Brûlerie coffee beans served at specialty coffee shops all around town, this is the brand's only official outpost. A boutique done up in mahogany wood greets you upon entering. It’s well stocked with bags of the company’s coffee–made fresh in the glass-canopied roasting room at the back of the store– in addition to coffeemaking equipment and accessories. You can also order a coffee to enjoy on-site or to-go, sign up for a coffee-tasting workshop, or simply get schooled on specialty coffee from the roastery’s expert staff.

Maison Plisson Paris Deli Interior

Maison Plisson Arrow

Plisson specializes in artisanal items that reduce waste, eschewing mass-market food (and indulging the growing expectation for transparent sourcing) for some 3,000 products, 80 percent of which are French. The fresh market highlights the talents of leading food artisans from France, from locally grown produce from Alexia Charraire of the Comptoir des Producteurs to specialty coffee served in the café from Parisian roaster Terres de Café. You’ll also find a selection of Roellinger spices exclusively sold here.

Le March des Enfants Rouges Paris

Marché des Enfants Rouges Arrow

The Marché des Enfants Rouges is the oldest food market in Paris (it first opened in 1615), and is now a buzzing Marais hub for food sellers of all types. Stroll through the dense maze of stalls selling everything from North African grains to Italian deli specialties. For those who want a break from the formality of the traditional French dining experience, this market offers a relaxed and (mostly outdoors) convivial atmosphere (and a great place to stock up on snacks for your hotel room or Airbnb).

Federation Francaise de l'Aperitif Paris France

Federation Française de l'Aperitif (FFA) Arrow

FFA, a luxurious épicerie with reasonable prices, has dedicated itself to preserving and diversifying the French tradition of the apéritif—having a snack and drink before dinner to stimulate the appetite. It’s a great spot for a drink with friends, and for cheese and charcuterie boards that go above and beyond. You'll find all things apéro sourced directly directly from artisanal French producers: local craft beer, cured sausages, a handful of cheeses, and much more.

Café Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton Arrow

This pastry café and shop began as a yearlong pop-up tied to LV Dream, the Louis Vuitton installation at Pont Neuf; it has continued for a second year—and shows no signs of vanishing anytime soon. After the LV Dream exhibit, head to the chocolaterie with products crafted pastry chef Maxime Frédéric exclusively for the maison, or to the café where sweets and a savory lunch menu are available. The space is appointed with colorful throw pillows on banquettes and plenty of plants, but the views overlooking the Pont Neuf and the Seine is the major selling points. At the chocolaterie, expect decadent chocolate fare; at the café, pastries are served plated, and you'll find monogrammed éclairs and milky coffee drinks— naturally, LV makes an appearance in the latté art.

Taylor swift makes big changes to 'eras' tour, kicks off european leg, taylor swift changes up 'eras' tour for euro leg ... new 'fits, songs, vibe.

Taylor Swift is shaking things up for the start of the European leg of her 'Eras' tour ... introducing a slew of changes for the new shows, and her fans absolutely love it.

The singer kicked off the new dates for her record-breaking tour with a stop in Paris Thursday ... debuting a couple key changes right out of the gate. As eagle-eyed Swifties quickly noticed, Taylor donned a new 'Lover' bodysuit for the intro of her tour.

Instead of the pale pink and blue sequined number -- which Taylor famously wore in the concert film -- the singer wore a vibrant orange bedazzled bodysuit. She also notably ditched her getup for the 'Fearless' era, swapping in a new gold and black fringe dress.

Taylor also had fans scratching their heads ... as she wore a shirt that read "This Is Not Taylor's Version" during the 'Red' era of her concert.

Taylor didn't just change up her wardrobe either, BTW ... as she made some key changes to the setlist, too -- including several new songs from her new album, "The Tortured Poets Department." Makes sense ... she did just drop it, so it's only fitting she plugs it.

🚨| "THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT" included in the intro for Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour'! #ParisTSTheErasTour pic.twitter.com/vt3n3VCMNT — The Eras Tour (@tswifterastour) May 9, 2024 @tswifterastour

Taylor then cut "The Archer" from her 'Lover' era and significantly moved up the 'Red' era ... to debut right after her 'Fearless' era -- bumping 'Evermore' from its No. 3 slot and combining it with the 'Folklore' era later on.

The 'Speak Now' era was also moved up ... sending fans into a tizzy, as the singer cut her anthem "Long Live" -- choosing to only perform "Enchanted" for the crowd.

Taylor is clearly trying to freshen things up on the 'Eras' tour ... as there are set to be 152 shows in total when it wraps in December -- which will finish with a stop in British Columbia.

Not to mention, signs at the venue indicated Taylor was filming the performance ... so perhaps another concert movie is in the works??? Stay tuned for more!!!

Bachelorette jenn tran on making history & her biggest turnoff (exclusive).

historical tours paris

Jenn Tran, the fan favorite who got Joey Graziadei’s heart racing on "The Bachelor" this season, is ready to make her own mark on TV history as the first Asian-American Bachelorette.

Only “Extra’s” Megan Ryte was with Jenn after the big announcement.

Saying her family is supportive and excited, Tran explained, “For me, growing up, I never really saw Asian representation on TV very often... I actually called my little cousin and told her I’m going to be the first Asian Bachelorette and she was, like, sobbing, inconsolably crying. I was like, ‘I don’t know if you are happy or sad,’ and she was like, ‘No, no, no, I'm really, really happy.’”

She continued, "That was the moment when it really hit me... I'm inspiring a lot of young women around the world… It’s a lot of people who maybe feel like they haven't seen themselves on TV yet, and they just want to see be able to see themselves in that main character kind of role. Now, my cousin and other women can be like, ‘You know what? I can do anything that I want to do.’ That to me is just so incredibly humbling, and I feel so honored.”

The 26-year-old made it to Joey's top six. Not getting that final rose didn't crush her spirit — Jenn is ready to start her journey to find love.

Tran said, “I'm the most confident I've ever been. I'm just the most myself than I've ever felt and the most ready to find love that I've ever really felt. I worked through a lot of toxic relationships where I really do feel like I'm ready to find my partner. I know what I want, and I know what I don't want. I feel like that's the biggest thing that's prepared me for this position.”

She added, “Every relationship I've ever had I don't have regrets about, because I think every relationship that didn't work out leads you to find your person and you learn something from it. That's just kind of my motto is to not have regrets."

Megan asked, “Do you believe that you will find love on this show?”

Jenn insisted, “Absolutely, and I wouldn't be here if I genuinely didn't. I think the process is accelerated, but it pushes people to really open up. I definitely saw that in myself. In previous relationships, I really shied away from opening up and being vulnerable and talking about the things I had gone through and my insecurities. I think once you're able to do that, you really do feel closer to the person that you're dating."

historical tours paris

What is she looking for in a partner?

“I always say just some cheeky, cheeky banter,” Jenn said. “I love when someone can really just mess with me, but also be sweet. I love that kind of relationship where you're just kind of bantering and making fun of each other, but at the end of the day, you're also there for each other."

She added, "I feel like humor is what makes a relationship really last. I am looking for a life partner, and so when the lust fades, when the physical attraction fades, you at least still have a really good friendship."

Megan asked, “Biggest turnoffs?”

Tran shared, “Chewing with your mouth open. Ugh. Literally, I can't."

The physician's assistant already knows how she will present herself on the show.

She said, “I'm just going to be myself and see what happens. Obviously, if somebody gives me sh*t and does something crazy, I'm going to put them in their place and they're going home... Just like I would be in the real world in any relationship if somebody was to give me a red flag. I'd be like, 'You gotta go.' So that's how I'm gonna tackle the problems is head-on and whenever they come."

As for what she's looking forward to, Jenn shared, "I'm very, very excited to just begin my journey. Obviously, the ending is gonna be really exciting too, but I'm just so excited to meet these men and potentially, you know, see who's gonna stand out to me and then see how my mind might change later on or how the strongest connection in the beginning might just really last the whole time."

What is she most scared of? She said, "Definitely just opening up my heart to someone who maybe at the end of the day isn't there for me or isn't looking for something long-term."

Jenn's journey on "The Bachelorette" begins this July on ABC.

D-Day 80th anniversary in Normandy

By Joshua Berlinger, Antoinette Radford, Shania Shelton and Kyle Feldscher, CNN

Our live coverage of the 80th anniversary of D-Day has ended. Read more about D-Day here or scroll through the posts on today's events below.

French President Emmanuel Macron: "Let us be worthy of those who landed here"

From CNN's Joshua Berlinger and Emmanuel Miculita in Paris

France's President Emmanuel Macron delivers a speech during the International commemorative ceremony at Omaha Beach marking the 80th anniversary of the World War II "D-Day" Allied landings in Normandy, in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, in northwestern France, on June 6.

French President Emmanuel Macron closed the international ceremony marking 80 years since D-Day with a speech honoring the soldiers who fought in the largest seaborne invasion in human history and, as other leaders have done throughout the day, drawing parallels to the current geopolitical unrest — most notably the war in Ukraine.

Perhaps the strongest part of Macron's speech was its end, in which he honored Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky — who was in attendance — and the Ukrainian people's fight against Russia.

"Faced with the return of war to our continent, faced with the questioning of everything they fought for, faced with those who claim to change borders by force or rewrite history, let us be worthy of those who landed here. Your presence here today, Mr. President of Ukraine, says it all,” Macron said, followed by a brief interruption of the roar of a fighter jet flyover.

Europe has not seen the type of ground conflict that is raging in Ukraine since the end of World War II, and this year’s anniversary comes as Russian forces advance on the battlefield – handing Kyiv a series of tactical defeats and poking holes in the already fragile Western alliance opposed to the Kremlin’s war.

"We know that liberty is a fight for every morning," Macron added. "For everyone in this world that lives hoping for liberty, for equality, for fraternity the sixth of June is a day without end, a never-ending dawn."

World War II veteran dies while traveling to France for D-Day anniversary

From CNN’s Dakin Andone

US Navy veteran Bob Persichitti attends the 74th Reunion of Honor ceremony on Iwo To, Japan, March 23, 2019.

Robert Persichitti, a 102-year-old World War II US Navy veteran, died last week while on his way to France to commemorate  the 80th anniversary of D-Day , according to Honor Flight Rochester, a veterans organization.

Persichitti was a “wonderful, pleasant, humble guy,” who was “easy to talk to,” said Honor Flight Rochester President and CEO Richard Stewart, who told CNN he learned of his friend’s death last Friday.

“We miss him,” said Stewart.

While Persichitti passed away bound for Normandy — where the Allied forces’  landing on June 6, 1944 , laid the foundation for the defeat of Nazi Germany — he served in the Pacific as a radioman aboard the USS Eldorado, Stewart said. His tour of duty included Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Guam, according to Stewart and  the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame , into which Persichitti was inducted in 2020.

Persichitti fell ill last week during a stop in Germany while headed for Normandy, Al DeCarlo, a friend who was traveling with Persichitti, told  CNN affiliate WHAM . Persichitti was airlifted to the hospital and died soon after, DeCarlo said.

“The doctor was with him. He was not alone, he was at peace and he was comfortable,” DeCarlo said. “She put his favorite singer, Frank Sinatra, on her phone and he peacefully left us.”

Persichitti had heart problems in the past, “but for 102, I would say he was in superb health,” Stewart told CNN.

Persichitti was born in a coal mining town outside Pittsburgh, Stewart said, describing his friend's “humble, poor beginnings.” After the war, Persichitti worked as a carpentry teacher in Rochester, New York, according to the Veterans Hall of Fame, and in 1972 received a degree from SUNY Buffalo.

Trump posts tribute on 80th anniversary of D-Day landings in Normandy

From CNN's Kate Sullivan

Former US President Donald Trump on Thursday posted a tribute to the “immortal heroes who landed at Normandy” to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

“Today, we honor the immortal heroes who landed at Normandy 80 years ago. The men of D-Day will live forever in history as among the bravest, noblest, and greatest Americans ever to walk the earth. They shed their blood, and thousands gave their lives, in defense of American Freedom. They are in our hearts today and for all time,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

France's Macron awards 3 more people the Legion of Honor

From CNN's Emmanuel Miculita and Joshua Berlinger in Paris

French President Emmanuel Macron awards US WWII veteran Arlester Brown with the Legion of Honor during the International commemorative ceremony at Omaha Beach marking the 80th anniversary of the World War II "D-Day" Allied landings in Normandy, in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, in northwestern France, on June 6.

French President Emmanuel Macron used the international ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day to award the Legion of Honor, France's highest military or civilian distinction, to three more American veterans: Joseph Miller, Richard Calvin Rung and Arlester Brown.

Earlier in the day, Macron awarded the Legion of Honor to Christian Lamb , a 104-year-old British woman credited with having made the maps for the D-Day landing, and 11 other American veterans.

Testimonials and musical performances are taking place during international ceremony

As the international ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day on Omaha Beach is underway, testimonials from those who fought in the war are currently being read out.

Along with the testimonials, musical performances are demonstrated in front of attendees.

French President Emmanuel Macron is set to deliver an address later during the ceremony.

Austin says "Ukraine matters" in the midst of D-Day ceremonies

From CNN's Shania Shelton

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin discussed Russia's war in Ukraine while participating in D-Day ceremonies, telling CNN's Wolf Blitzer that "Ukraine matters."

"I have engaged members of Congress on both sides, in both parties. I have seen throughout strong support for Ukraine, and even though it took a while to get the legislation through, I was confident that that the right thing was going to happen."

He continued, "Because anytime you see that type of support on both sides of the aisle for a cause, Congress will find a way to get things done, which is what they did in this case, because it's the right thing to do."

The international ceremony is underway

From CNN's Josh Berlinger in Paris

The international ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day on Omaha Beach has begun.

More than 20 heads of state and government and representatives from royal families across Europe are in attendance.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrives at international ceremony to standing ovation

From CNN's Joshua Berlinger in Paris

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at Thursday's international ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day to a standing ovation and a rousing applause.

Zelensky's presence — and Russian leader Vladimir Putin's absence, despite Soviet Russia's key role in winning the war in Europe — is highly symbolic given how the war in Ukraine is casting a shadow over the day's events.

Several world leaders have already used their speeches to cast parallels between Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the aggression of Nazi Germany that sparked World War II.
