The Island Expeditions Tag Along Tour   gives travellers the chance to explore K'gari (Fraser Island) behind the wheel of their own 4WD! Tag along with your experienced guide and get to explore all the best of the island on your 3 day, 2 night tour. Whether chilling out in the crystal clear waters of Lake McKenzie, taking in some history at the Maheno Shipwreck or surrounding yourself with lush tropical rainforest is your pick, this tour will give you everything you need to get started on your amazing self-drive safari.

A tag along tour allows you the freedom of driving on K'gari (Fraser Island)! During a tag along tour, you will follow the lead car around the island from one destination to the next, enjoying the thrill of driving on the sand highway and the inland tracks. Guests can also opt to be a passenger only, enjoy the ride and view while someone else takes the wheel!

Important Information: 

• Passengers MUST attend a compulsory pre-tour briefing held at Nomads Noosa at 6:30pm, the day prior to the departure to the island.
• Passengers wishing to drive must be a minimum of 21yrs of age and hold a valid drivers licence ( minimum 2 years driving experience necessary).
• Please note this tour may not be suitable if you have existing neck or back problems or are pregnant. Check with your agent to make sure this tour is suitable for you.
• Guests are to meet at Reception 6.30am on day of departure.  If you miss the bus you miss the tour. Make sure you have checked out of your room and have your luggage with you.
• Please note that a surcharge applies to all tours booked on public holidays. The surcharge applies for any departure where a public holiday will fall while the guests are on the Island.
• Guests are responsible for any damages that occur while on tour as a result of negligence – this includes at the campsite, in the vehicles, or if you are staying at Nomads Noosa.

Your Responsibilities:

Please advise us before booking if any passengers are under 18 years old to ensure this is the appropriate trip. 

You must reconfirm all booked tours prior to travel as specified on your voucher. If applicable, notes such as dietary requirements, pick-up locations and additional fees should also be confirmed at this time. Reconfirmations cannot be actioned through Fraser Tours / Mr Travel, and must be done so directly through the Service Operator as specified on each ticket.

It is your responsibility to notify us of ticket discrepancies. Please read through the details on your voucher thoroughly to ensure all details such as passenger names, ages and dates of travel on vouchers are correct.

It is the responsibility of all passengers travelling to advise both your travel agent at the time of booking and vessel check-in agent before boarding of any medical conditions including food allergies you may suffer from.

You need to allow adequate time to check-in prior to the specified departure time. 

Prices/Extra Costs:

All prices are stated in Australian dollars and include GST. Surcharges over peak holiday seasons may apply. 

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices and extra costs. Extra costs may include EMC fees, Stingersuit/Wetsuit Hire, Luggage Storage, Insurance, Linen Hire, National Park Fees, Fuel Levies, Dietary Fees, etc. Bonds may also apply.

We will also endeavour to communicate these extra costs with you at the time of booking, and on your ticket. However, it is your responsibility to confirm which (if any) additional costs apply with each Service Operator upon reconfirming your trip.

Travel Risk/Insurance:

It should be noted that adventure travel involves risk. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard clients, we cannot be responsible for personal injury or loss due to the actions of our clients which are beyond our control. We highly recommend that all clients have travel insurance covering illness, injury, loss or damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on the confirmed date of departure. You should also ensure your travel insurance will cover special circumstances including weather events preventing guests from travelling to their tour departure destination and cancelled flights due to unforeseen circumstances. 

Merchant Fees:

Please be aware operators pass on credit card merchant fees so there is a non-refundable 1% surcharge for VISA and MASTERCARD card purchases.

All ticket/voucher reissues attract a $20 administration fee.

Open Date Vouchers / Gift Certificate:

Shipping Costs are in addition to the ticket price and will be added at check-out. Shipping costs are non-refundable and do not makeup part of the ticket value. 

E-Vouchers incur no shipping fees. You have 5 years to use the value of the voucher. Seasonal Price Rises will apply if travelling out the current seasons pricing. Vouchers can be exchanged for free up to the full value of the voucher excluding credit card fees and charges.

Cancellations

Client Cancellations:

All cancellations forfeit 25% of the recommended retail price (RRP) - not the discounted/sale price. No shows or client cancellations made within 30 days of departure forfeit 100% of the total ticket price. 

Transfers between tours can be made at the suppliers discretion, however, it should be noted that supplier fees may apply. Tour transfers also incur a $20 administration fee. 

It is compulsory that all cancellation requests are in writing and sent via email to [email protected]. Cancellations attempted via online chat or phone will not be actioned.

Supplier Cancellations:

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices, alter itineraries, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport and vary itineraries and services if necessary.

All departures and itineraries are subject to weather. Tours may be changed or cancelled for any reason at the discretion of the Service Operator. If the Service Operator has to cancel the trip or activity (prior to departure) and we cannot offer a suitable alternative, then a refund will be given minus a 20% administration fee and any associated card fees. We strongly recommend that you have travel insurance, especially during the wet season.

In the unlikely event of your trip being cancelled or stood down, all guest communication is required to go through our Online Store.

All refunds are in Australian Dollars and must be made to the card of payment. Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel is not liable for exchange rate fluctuations or fees, or any other merchant/bank fees associated with domestic and/or international transactions.

Where a full refund is applicable, there is the option to transfer the whole cost of the tour to another tour or “Credit” to avoid the administration fee. A transfer fee of $20 will apply.

You will be emailed confirmation once the refund has been processed. Once the refund has been processed, it may still take time for the banks to clear the amount. Please allow 7-10 business days for the funds to clear into Australian accounts and up to 21 business days for international accounts.

Accountability/Misconduct:

All Service Operators have the right to provide client feedback and to cancel bookings based off of feedback from other Service Operators.

Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel will treat this as any normal client cancellation and therefore the cancellation fees stated in the Client Cancellation Policy will apply.

Yes, this tour is strictly 18+. It's a backpacker-style tour that mainly suits international youth travellers, but this tour really suits anyone who is young at heart. 

There are toilets but no showers. Immerse yourself in the wilderness and try a swim in a freshwater lake instead of a shower!

Yes! Please bring a refillable water bottle so you can top up on fresh drinking water throughout the tour. 

You will stay at an eco-certified campground right next to the beach. The campsite is pre-set-up, and each tent suits 2-4 people. 

You can bring a small overnight bag only. Large bulky items and suitcases can be stored for free at Nomads Noosa Youth Resort. 

You can choose between Noosa and Rainbow Beach for your depart and return locations. 

We recommend bringing your own, or you can hire a sleeping bag for a $20 cash deposit which will be refunded at the end of the tour. 

Yes, this tour is BYO but please do not bring glass bottles.

3 Days With Island Expeditions On K’gari Island

K nown as k’gari, meaning ‘paradise’, there’s no better place to let your inner explorer out with island expeditions., island expeditions: what to expect….

There are no roads to Fraser Island so you’ll need to arrive by barge and when you do get there you’re going to need a proper 4×4. So leave your Toyota Prius at home, you won’t be able to access this place that easily. Ancient sand dunes, unique rainforest and crystal clear freshwater lakes cover an island that’s surrounded by shipwrecks and sharks. There’s camping, adventuring and lot’s of exploring ahead. Travel down 120km long beaches, pass through 200m tall King Ferns, spot wild Dingoes and meander down sparkling creeks. Fraser Island beckons, grab your adventure gear and let’s go!

On day one you can expect a lot of traveling and driving as you embark on your journey via a ferry transfer to Fraser Island. You should definitely think about packing some snacks for you and some mates to share on the way. When you arrive, you will hit the ground running, putting the petal to the metal up 75 Mile Beach, with chances to see some beautiful sights from the lush rainforests at Wanggoolba Creek & Central Station. As well as checking out Lake Wabby and/or Lake Birrabeen which are must see’s. You will finish up the day with some relaxation back at camp amongst a BBQ with your mates and some scenic starscapes.

There is no time to waste on day two with Island Expeditions. You will be rising early to a full brekkie so you have the energy to last the whole day. Today is all about staying on the move as you visit some amazing Fraser Island sights. You’ll have the chance to take a dip in Eli Creek before heading over to the world famous Maheno Shipwreck. This is where history has been written in the wreckage through an amazing story. After this, you’ll be check out some more sights including the Pinncales coloured sands and cruising over to Indian Head Lookout for some scenic views, followed by finishing the day with a dip in the naturally bubbly, Champagne Pools. Head back to camp after where you will be welcomed with some beverages and another Aussie BBQ.

Day three will be a bit more chilled than the other days. Nonetheless, rise and shine and wake up to your last brekkie on the island. Head over to Lake Mckenzie with your crew and enjoy the white silica sands and your feet and the pristine salt water. You then will have to board your ferry by 2:30PM to make it back in time to Rainbow Beach and head back to Nomads Noosa. Then you will drop off the 4WD’s and reminisce with your friends about how awesome your trip just was! Palace Fraser Island self drive 4wd adventure operated by Nomads Fraser Island. Departs from Nomads Noosa or Rainbow beach. Includes beach camping in a pre set up camp site in 2 - 4 man tents. 3 day 2 nights + 2 nights at Nomads Noosa backpackers.

We recommend booking at Nomads Noosa as a pre night and post night for your convenience given the time of departure and return.

Please arrive at Nomads Noosa by 6pm for the compulsory Palace Fraser Island tour briefing (held in our KB's bar next to reception). (Please let us know if departing from Rainbow beach as we will need to send through the briefing details via email).

You'll get to meet your fellow travelers and get to know more about the awesome Fraser Island tour you'll be doing! This safety briefing will include driving tips, do's and don'ts and the drivers will fill in liability and insurance forms at this time as well. After the briefing, it's time to pack your small backpack, so you're all set for your early start the next morning!

Be ready for early morning starts so we can make the most of each day.

Depending on the weather, and the tide your guide will assess whether it is safe to travel on the beach or if we need to select an alternative route to our next destination– Lunch locations vary due to tides and weather conditions as well as your itinerary.

Your tents are set up for you along a designated camp site. Facilities include camp kitchen where you will enjoy preparing your meals with your fellow travellers.

NOOSA is the preferred departure point as Nomads Noosa Hostel is based there, where the briefing takes place plus so much more for customers to do : Beautiful beaches Iconic beautiful National Park along the coast line Everglades Learn to surf etc

Customers departing from Rainbow are able to finish the tour in Noosa if heading South or if heading north, options to end the tour in Rainbow too.

itinerary--

The day is finally here, the first day of your awesome Fraser Island adventure with Palace. We'll depart from Nomads Noosa Backpackers nice & early at 6.30am. After we get your luggage into storage, you'll be heading towards Rainbow Beach where you'll be arriving after a 1.5-2hr drive. We stop here to collect our food and the 4WD's and that's it: we’re on our way to amazing Fraser Island. If departing from Rainbow beach, we will collect you from the BP Petrol station at 9am,

Before oyu hop on the ferry there will be an opportunity to purchase your alcohol and any snacks you wish to take.

We take the ferry from Rainbow Beach and land at Hook Point on the Southern tip of Fraser Island approximately 10 min later.

Stay overnight in your tents.

Your second day means another early start so you get to make the most of your time on the island! After breakfast (continental style breakfast - cereal, toasts, spread, tea & coffee), we continue your adventure on Fraser

Stay overnight in the same camp site.

Today, after breakfast we continue on our travels and after lunch, it's time to leave the island. A brief stop at Rainbow Beach before driving back to Nomads Noosa arriving anytime betwen 3.00 - 5.30pm to check back in for your Post nights and get ready for your post-tour party at KB’s bar. An amazing end to an amazing trip! Alternatively if you are leaving the tour in Rainbow beach we can drop you in town.

Welcoming hosts, cosy accommodation, super well organised & an authentic Australian experience on a magical island. Our guide Troy was super passionate/knowledgeable about the island and its history and people. We hit up all the hotspots on a flexible itinerary adapted to the daily conditions to get the best out of some of the awesome island spots! The boomerang lessons and paddle boarding on Lake McKenzie were definitely a highlight and no better time to visit as the wildlife was at its best, seeing plenty of Whales on our beach drives!

K’gari is such a beautiful place..

K’gari Fraser Island Adventures did an amazing job of showing us around. Their accommodation is great – clean and cosy. We stayed in winter and they had hot water bottles and extra blankets in the room, which was much appreciated! Hannah and Mark are such great hosts. They truly care about the island and did a fantastic job of showing us around and telling us about the history of the island. I loved hearing about the Indigenous history of the island and their stories about its creation. The 4WDriving was so much fun too! I would recommend this tour to everyone – it’s truly amazing!!

Fraser Island is a spectacular, unspoiled paradise of sweeping beaches, breathtaking rainforests, natural lakes and wonderful scenery that justifies the World Heritage Listing. Stretching over 123 kilometres, and at 184 000 hectares it is the largest sand island in the world. 

Hervey Bay is the place to go to see the magnificent humpback whales come out to play, there is a large range of whale watching tours that the bay has to offer, It’s great for a fun action filled day out on the clear waters of the bay. 1/3 Day, 1/2 day and full day.

Cruise the beautiful waterways of The Great Sandy Straights and visit the best spots of Fraser Island that are only accessed by boats.  Relax in the evening and watch the sunset over the waters and Urangan Pier. 

The Day Trips/Tours to Lady Elliot Island offer a great opportunity for domestic or international visitors with limited time to explore Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Lady Elliot Island is located on the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef, 80km north-east of Bundaberg, just to the north of Fraser Island. The Day Trips/Tours will allow visitors to experience the Island by air, land and water.
