Pearl Jam at Waterfront Music Pavilion

Dubbed as "the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s," Pearl Jam enjoyed a prolific career that spanned more than three decades now. The band first broke out in the 1990s Seattle grunge music scene era. Along with Nirvana and Alice in Chains, the band consisting of Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Eddie Vedder, and Matt Cameron became the pioneers of the grunge movement.

With 11 monumental albums, 15 Grammy nods, 2 wins, and multiple sold-out concerts, Pearl Jam's career is a feat every rock band longs to follow. The band continues to be critically acclaimed and commercially successful – with over 85 million albums sold worldwide. Thus, it's no surprise that Pearl Jam was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

The band is set to hit the road again this year in support of their album, "Gigaton," the band's latest album released in March 2020. The album features fan favorites "Dance of the Clairvoyants," "Superblood Wolfmoon," and "Quick Escape." It unsurprisingly debuted as No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums, and Billboard Vinyl Albums Chart. It also hit Top 5 on Billboard 200 Album Chart, No. 2 Billboard Top Album Sales Chart, and has reached over 200 million global streams.

The songs from this critically-acclaimed album, along with their classic hits, will be heard live once again by Jersey fans this Wednesday, 14th September 2022, as Pearl Jam will perform at the famous Waterfront Music Pavilion. Secure your tickets for this anticipated concert by clicking on the "Get Tickets" button. See you there!

Pearl Jam is coming to Waterfont Music in Camden this September

Veteran Seattle rockers Pearl Jam just announced a late summer tour — many of then rescheduled dates in support of their March 2020 album Gigaton — but one of the new dates is a stop at the Waterfront Music Pavilion in Camdenm New Jersey this September.

The show takes place Wednesday, September 14th, and there will be no general public onsale — tickets will be made available via Ticketmaster’s verified fan portal. Registration is open now through Sunday, March 27th, and tickets go on sale Tuesday, March 29th at 10 a.m.

Gigaton , Pearl Jam’s eleventh studio album, received acclaim from outlets like Rolling Stone , whose Kory Grow called it “an admirable, inspiring example of grown-up grunge.” Watch the video for “Comes Then Goes” below and find Pearl Jam’s full schedule below; the opener on all dates is Pluralone, the project of former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.

Pearl Jam Plays Camden Classic To Follow “Memorable” 9/11 Garden Party [Videos]

The Freedom Mortgage Pavilion lies in Camden, NJ where Pearl Jam  on Wednesday night completed a three-show run through New York and New Jersey to open the U.S. leg of the band’s 2022 North American tour. Sitting on the bank of the Delaware River and facing Philadelphia across the span of the Ben Franklin Bridge, this will technically go in the ledger as a Jersey show, though it was played with Philly energy to be sure (less the charge on your EZPass, of course).

Pluralone –which still fits whether you pronounce it plur-alone or plural-one–is the cleverly titled name of Josh Klinghoffer ’s one-man band. Pearl Jam’s newest member has been tapped with set opening duties for the majority of the Gigaton tour. After falling flat with failing equipment that led to a botched set at Madison Square Garden , he recovered admirably on Wednesday night with a set that justified arriving early. During the set, he separately invited Matt Cameron and Mike McCready to join him, the latter appearing for a cover of grunge contemporary Alice In Chains ‘ “Nutshell”.

Pearl Jam— Eddie Vedder (guitar, vocals), Mike McCready (guitar), Stone Gossard (guitar), Jeff Ament (bass), Matt Cameron (drums), Boom Gaspar (keys), and Josh Klinghoffer (multi-instrumentalist)—took seats under a dimly lit blue haze after stepping onstage. Following Sunday’s greatest hits banger on 9/11 at MSG (more on that later), this setlist was more geared to those who live for the thrill of the chase, though not so deep as to alienate the tour’s largest crowd. After a set-opening “Wash”, the b-side pairing to “Alive” from 1991’s Ten , “Oceans” followed. Vedder contemplated his barolo, questioning, “Are we in Jersey? Are we in Philly? I know it ain’t The Spectrum because we blew that place up!” Truth.

“Daughter” loosened the crowd up with mass familiarity as Vedder then remarked, “We got one more with a bit of composure until we turn it up.” “Hard To Imagine” gloriously followed, a second cut from the Lost Dogs compilation of b-sides and rarities that rounded out the early part of the evening.

True to Vedder’s word, a breathless run of “Animal”, “Mind Your Manners”, “Do The Evolution”, “Deep”, “Interstellar Overdrive” > “Corduroy”, “Given To Fly”, and “Quick Escape” was only punctuated by the dedication of “Given To Fly” to slam dunk champion and Philly legend  Julius Irving . “Retrograde”, one of the slower-tempo songs from the tour’s eponymous album, Gigaton , came next.

Eddie Vedder’s energy is a drug that demands proximity. He has the ability to make anyone in a reasonable radius feel like the most important person in the world with a simple glance, nod, or smile. “Even Flow” followed, wild as ever, and Vedder looked straight into my eyes in the second row as he pointed and sang, “faces that he sees time again ain’t that familiar.” If the lyric fits, wear it, and while Ed and I certainly don’t “know” each other, he surely could have recognized me after I spent had the evening directly in his frame of vision on the rail at MSG on Sunday—in the same shirt, no less.

Speaking of familiar mugs… “It’s nice to see faces out there after everyone being masked for so long,” said Vedder. “It’s nice to see your face, too,” he continued, looking at Stone Gossard who had just shed the mask he had been wearing for most of the night and since the beginning of the tour. A relatively rare but classic pairing of “Untitled” > “MFC” fit well within the evening’s unusual-pairing theme. A powerful “Not For You” followed suit, while “Who Ever Said” preceded a rare rendition of Van Halen ’s “Eruption”—a Mike McCready solo treat coaxed out by Vedder after “a recent dream about a volcano in Philadelphia.”

Pearl Jam – “Eruption” (Van Halen) – 9/14/22

After “Why Go” and before “Porch”, both of which kept energy at a boil, Ed talked about the erosion of rights and freedoms and our imperative to vote. As information was relayed on the jumbo screens about how to get registered, Vedder continued, “One of the most important issues is women’s right to choose,” imploring everyone to vote for freedom as he vocalized the conspicuous connection between “Porch”—a song very much open to interpretation —and women’s rights, a history dating back to MTV’s Unplugged (1992).

With a highly memorable main set now in the books, things would only get better down the home stretch with the McCready-penned “Inside Job” leading the way.

Pearl Jam – “Inside Job” – 9/14/22

The always welcome “State Of Love And Trust” brought crowd energy back up before “Breath” exceeded those levels yet again, perhaps in a nod to those who felt it had gone missing on 9/11 at MSG. “Crazy Mary” followed, Boom Gaspar beaming in all his glory, before before Pearl Jam then launched the show into the stratosphere as Vedder held up and then honored a fan’s homemade sign to play “Leash” (sure, it was written on the setlist before the show, but the best way to get your request played is to request a song they want to play).

Returning to the topic of 9/11, Vedder then took a minute to remember the band’s most recent MSG show three days prior: “You really brought it and allowed it to be one of the most memorable shows in all the times of us playing. It was very, very powerful to be in that room with you that night, in that building, in that proximity, and on that date and we’re so very grateful for that energy.”

As he spoke, a stagehand adorned the monitors with two hockey jerseys—one dangerously close to a New York Ranger design given its proximity to Broad St.—gifted from New York City Fire Department Ladder Company 3. Vedder then welcomed Frank Healy and his daughter to the stage. Frank was one of just 12 of the 24 members who responded to a call at The World Trade Center twenty-one years ago to return to his company with his life intact. A solemn “Alive” followed in his and Ladder Company 3’s honor.  Neil Young ‘s “Rockin’ In The Free World” capped the festivities two hours and forty-one minutes after they started.

Pearl Jam’s North American Gigaton tour continues this weekend with arena shows in Nashville (Friday) and St. Louis (Sunday) in addition to a set at Louisville, KY’s Bourbon & Beyond . For a full list of upcoming Pearl Jam dates, head here .

Pearl Jam Is Finally Hitting the Road in Support of ‘Gigaton’

By Tomás Mier

Two years after putting their tour in support of LP Gigaton on hold due to the pandemic, Pearl Jam is ready to head out on the road for a North American tour, starting May 3. The Eddie Vedder -fronted band will make 19 stops across Canada and the U.S., including two shows at L.A.’s Forum and one at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Josh Klinghoffer — the former guitarist for Red Hot Chilli Peppers — is set to open for Pearl Jam with his solo project Pluralone. He’ll also join Pearl Jam as a touring member alongside Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, and Matt Cameron.

The tour will feature efforts to reduce Pearl Jam’s carbon footprint by paying $200 per ton for carbon dioxide mitigation — a 10-time increase to the band’s efforts in past years. The band has made a conscious effort during past tours to minimize their impact on the environment and global warming.

“We are proud of our prior efforts to mitigate our inevitable carbon footprint from touring over the past 20 years but the time to multiply that effort is clearly right now,” said Gossard in a release. “By committing to this aggressive pricing, we hope to equally amplify our efforts and gather partners who share our urgency to make the investments and innovations required to move our world to a more conscious, carbon balanced economy.”

Tickets for the tour go on sale Monday.

Pearl Jam’s most recent album featured songs such as “Dance of the Clairvoyants,” “Superblood Wolfmoon,” and Retrograde.” The band last went on tour in 2018 with several stops at baseball stadiums. Along with their North America dates in May and the fall, the group is also heading to Europe this summer.

pearl jam tour 2022 camden nj

Review: Pearl Jam performs an impassioned sold-out, celebratory concert in Camden

The Seattle grunge survivors played to the biggest crowd on its current tour, and Eddie Vedder name-checked Dr. J., Rocky, and J.C. Dobbs, the tiny Philly venue the band played 31 years ago.

Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam perform at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on Sept. 14, 2022. The band sat through the first 4 songs.

The crowd at the sold-out Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden stayed on its feet for the entirety of the 2 ½ hour show on Wednesday night, but Pearl Jam began the evening sitting down.

It was a slow burn start for a band that’s mastered the art of creating drama by playing with a quiet, barely contained intensity. You know the room is going to eventually explode into collective catharsis. You just don’t know when.

In this case, some waiting was involved. After a 2 ½ year pandemic delay in getting to the Philadelphia region in support of their 11th album, Gigaton , which came out in March 2020, the band came on a half hour after its scheduled start time to accommodate late-arriving fans stuck in gridlock.

Eddie Vedder and bandmates — bassist Jeff Ament, guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, and drummer Matt Cameron, plus two auxiliary musicians — entered as Catpower’s “The Greatest” played over the sound system.

They eased two watery, ruminative deep cuts from the early 1990s - “Wash” and “Oceans” — before Vedder could wait no longer to address the band’s special relationship with Philadelphia.

“Good evening, Philly! Good evening Camden! Where the f—- are we?,” he asked. “I know it’s not the Spectrum, because we blew that place up. I know it’s not J.C. Dobbs, because there were 150 people there.”

» READ MORE: Pearl Jam talks about their top Philly moments, and why they’re releasing the video of their legendary ‘Ten’ concert now

(Pearl Jam played the final four shows at the storied South Philly arena before its demolition in 2009, and performed at the tiny South Street club in 1991 on tour for their debut album Ten , which went on to sell 13 million copies.)

Since those early days when combining punk disaffection with anthemic classic rock made them and Nirvana the biggest breakout band of the flannel-flying Pacific Northwest grunge era, Pearl Jam have consolidated a mass audience that has aged along with them, while bringing new generations into the fold.

The FMP crowd of 22,000 — the biggest, Vedder said, of the band’s current tour — was made up of fans in the same age range as the band, whose members are all in the mid-to late 50s, and younger.

Old heads with their adult children, and second generation fans with their own kids. The always earnest Vedder, who was in strong, sonorous voice all night wore a T-shirt with the logo of the Austin, Texas band Black Pumas, expressed appreciation. “After two years of isolation, two years of being divided, sequestered,” he said. “It feels great to see so many faces in one place.”

Loyalty has been earned with shrewd strategy. The band takes a page out of the Grateful Dead playbook, adapting the jam band improvisatory approach to a rugged, rock and roll and highly disciplined aesthetic.

McCready got extended showcases, including one with his instrument behind his head on “Alive.” Cameron didn’t solo, but got an introduction for the ages from Vedder: “We’ve lost some great ones. We’ve lost Neal Peart. We’ve lost Charlie Watts. We just lost Taylor Hawkins. Thank God we still have Matt ... Cameron!”

There is no fixed set list on a Pearl Jam tour. Many best loved songs get played - the Camden crowd got linchpins like “Even Flow,” “Corduroy” and “Animal,” the latter, from 1992′s Vs ., being the one that wrecked the room when the band finally stood up.

But there are also unexpected twists, turns and covers that keep ‘em coming back for more.

On Wednesday, covers included Pink Floyd’s “Interstellar Overdrive” and an encore of Victoria Williams’ Neil Young-ish “Crazy Mary,” featured organ player Kenneth “Boom” Gaspar. That was followed shortly by the band’s trademark closer, Neil Young’s “Keep Rockin’ in The Free World.”

Subtle moments rewarded close attention. In one snippet, Vedder riffed on the version of the Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” recorded by Devo, the band Pearl Jam once dressed up as on Halloween in Philadelphia.

After swooning over the Philly area weather and a perfect 24 hours spent leading up to the show, he sang a sweet a cappella chorus of “Modern Girl” by riot-grrl band Sleater-Kinney: “My whole life,” he sang, “was like a picture of a sunny day.”

There were other cool Philly moments. Vedder dedicated one song to “one of the greatest humans I’ve ever met,” Sixers great Julius Erving, “the first to get superhuman air.” The title: “Given To Fly.”

Later, he said he woke from a dream Wednesday in which he saw “those steps Rocky runs up, where Jay-Z puts on his Made in the U.S.A festival.” (Pearl Jam headlined the first Made in America in 2012.)

» READ MORE: Looking ahead as Made in America ends

In the dream, the Philadelphia Museum of Art was replaced by a volcano. “I don’t know what it means. Dreams are weird. But I did ask Mike McCready to play this song.” What was it? “Gonna Fly Now”? Nope. Van Halen’s “Eruption.”

Before “Quick Escape” and “Retrograde,” two environmentally conscious songs from the solid, workmanlike Gigaton , Vedder talked about saving the planet. Later, he spoke about the November elections, with a QR code on video screens to assist people registering to vote. “Freedom is on the ballot,” he said. “And the most important freedom would be a woman’s right to choose.”

In both instances, he was greeted by applause, along with scattered naysayers like the dude next to me who bellowed: “Shut up and sing!”

The show peaked towards the end with “Not For You,” from 1994′s Vitalogy. It rode a ferocious groove and encapsulated the defiant Romanticism that still defines the band.

The song warned off cynics and exploiters - “This is not for you!” - as Vedder declared: “All that’s sacred comes from youth … I still remember, why don’t you?”

Decades down the road, a Pearl Jam show is a celebration of survival, an impassioned attempt to keep alive the rock and roll idealism that ignited the band and its fans all those years go. At least for one night.

Two Ten-era songs open for the second show in a row. Ed asks

“Where are we? Well, I know we’re not at the Spectrum ‘cause we blew that place up…”

Given to Fly is dedicated to Dr. J. Not as much Gigaton tonight, with Quick Escape and Retrograde amping up the energy and the volume. Before Untitled, Ed comments that it’s nice to see so many faces, turning to Stone and adding “it’s nice to see yours, too,” (Stone had been masked for the few previous shows). Not For You has a slightly different-sounding intro, almost like Seven O’Clock. As the Modern Girl tag is beginning, Ed talks about how they’ve met so many nice people in Camden over the last 24 hours, and how over the last 6 months they’ve seen

“Incredible, crazy heat, we’ve seen floods, we’ve seen cold, we’ve seen wildfires, and then we get here and it’s like Goldilocks…perfect fucking day…we appreciate it more now.”

Ed talks about a dream he had about a volcano leading into Eruption. Prior to Porch, he mentions how voting rights are so important and gives the information number. After the break, Ed brings up Richie and his son Dermot on stage, the winners of the ALLIN contest, and says “I hope you like this one, ‘cause it was their choice,” and Breath follows State of Love and Trust for only the 4th time. Someone has a sign that says “PJ Show #108 – Play Leash” and they oblige. Boom takes a long solo on Crazy Mary before Mike finally joins in at the very end. Ed breaks out the Evel Knievel jacket for RITFW. Before exiting, he says “we’ll see you sooner than six years next time…goodnight, goodbye.” A show full of early material, with 13 of the 27 songs originating from the Ten and Vs. eras.

Although they’re one of the biggest rock groups around, Pearl Jam is keeping the back half of their 2022 concert schedule relatively light.

After returning from the European leg of their ongoing “Gigaton Tour,” the band will only play 11 concerts , beginning in September.

Luckily, two of those huge shows will be at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Sept. 11 and Camden’s Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on Sept. 14.

The “Gigaton Tour,” which began in May, comes in support of Pearl Jam’s 2020 album that Rolling Stone hailed as “an admirable, inspiring example of grown-up grunge.”

At live shows, expect tracks from “Gigaton,” a few choice classic rock covers and a handful of surefire singalong classics like “Even Flow” and “Jeremy.”

Plus, in addition to the tour, Eddie Vedder and co. will headline at Louisville, Kentucky’s Bourbon and Beyond Festival from Sept. 15-18. Fellow headliners on the bill include Jack White, Chris Stapleton and Kings of Leon.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to see Pearl Jam live this year.
