Taylor Swift

The Eras Tour is going global. After keeping fans waiting for months, Taylor Swift announced Friday (June 2) that she’s bringing her best-selling show to Latin America with summer and autumn stops in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil, featuring Sabrina Carpenter as her opener.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Starts With Supersize Setlist, Stunning Stage…

“Really thrilled to tell you this!!” the pop star wrote in a post to her social media accounts. “Mexico, Argentina and Brazil: We are bringing The Eras Tour to you this year!”

Trending on Billboard

Swift concluded her post by directing fans to her touring website for more information on registering for ticket pre-sales and on-sales. And while the “Anti-Hero” singer’s relationship with Ticketmaster has been strained recently (she slammed the company in November for mishandling high-demand sales for the American Eras Tour dates), Swift’s Latin American tickets will be sold through the ticketing platform.

A total of eight Eras Tour dates are currently slated for Swift’s venture to Latin America. Starting Aug. 24, she’ll play three consecutive shows at Mexico City’s Foro Sol. The Grammy winner will then return in November for a pair of shows at Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires, followed by shows at Estádio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro and Allianz Parque in São Paulo.

Echoing Swift’s words, a note at the bottom of a digital flier for the leg reads, “Additional international dates will be announced soon.”

Fans speculate Taylor Swift's surprise song in Brazil is dedicated to fan who died

Portrait of Bryan West

Taylor Swift wrapped up her Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, tour stop with two surprise songs. She performed "ME!" from "Lover" on the guitar and "So It Goes..." from "Reputation" on the piano Monday night.

The night before, she performed in the rain with fans speculating one of the special songs was dedicated to Ana Clara Benevides Machado .

For night two of Swift's shows at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos, the singer played "Dancing With Our Hands Tied" on the guitar from "Reputation" and "Bigger Than the Whole Sky" from "Midnights" on the piano.

Fans who were streaming the show live believed Swift chose the piano song as a tribute to Benevides, the fan who died on Friday. Many commenters on a TikTok livestream said, "For Ana."

Others said it may also be a tribute to Gabriel Milhomem Santos, a 25-year-old who was reportedly fatally stabbed before attending the Eras Tour, and Ally Garner Anderson, the 16-year-old Swiftie who received the red hat during a tour stop in Cincinnati.

"I kind of started this tradition where I would try to play songs that I have either never played live before or have never played live on the Eras Tour," she said before the first song. "You're getting one of each of those things tonight. This one is one of my favorites. I haven't played it since the 'Reputation' tour."

Rio stays beautiful on night one

Swift performed "Stay Beautiful" from her debut album and "Suburban Legends" from "1989 (Taylor's Version) [From the Vault]" as her suprise set for night one.

"I wanted to play something to honor the fact that so many amazing Brazilian fans have been with me since day one," she said before strumming her guitar to the eighth track from her first album.

Brazil's Christ the Redeemer welcomes Taylor Swift with a special projection

The Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.

Taylor Swift received a special welcome in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday night with a projection on the city's iconic Christ the Redeemer statue as she continues the Latin American leg of her Eras Tour in Brazil.

A shirt with the words "Welcome to Brasil" was displayed on the statue, along with the names of Brazil's states. The projection also featured symbols of Swift's music, including a scarf (a nod to her hit song "All Too Well") and a bow and arrow (most likely referring to "The Archer").

The shirt's design resembled that of one Swift wore in the music video for her song "You Belong With Me."

Mayor Eduardo Paes confirmed that a projection would be displayed on the statue Thursday — and compared the impact of the singer-songwriter's arrival to the likes of singers Michael Jackson and Madonna.

"We will properly honor Taylor Swift and her arrival to carioca territory tonight," he said in a video posted on X, using a term that refers to the people of Rio de Janeiro. "Welcome, Taylor Swift."

Swift is scheduled to play three shows at the city’s Nilton Santos stadium starting Friday, followed by three more shows in São Paulo next weekend.

The mayor's announcement comes after an online movement from fans who pleaded for Omar Raposo, rector of the sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer, to project a shirt from one of Swift's music videos onto the statue upon her arrival, according to the Brazilian newspaper O Globo .

Raposo agreed, but only if Swifties managed to donate 20,000 units of panettone, a sweet bread eaten at Christmas, and clean water as part of a fundraiser to support local charities for the Holy See's World Day of the Poor , O Globo reported.

Christ the Redeemer frequently projects messages or visuals in support of social and cultural causes. In July, the statue displayed a clock symbolizing the urgent state of the climate crisis. And in 2020, an array of flags of countries impacted by the coronavirus pandemic was displayed.

Taylor Swift Taps Paramore for European Eras Tour Run

Taylor Swift knows we need more — so she’s giving us just that. The singer has added 14 more shows to the European/U.K. leg of her Eras Tour , and announced that Paramore will provide support throughout the trek.

“Really can’t contain my excitement because… we’re adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour,” Swift wrote on Twitter Wednesday, July 5. “And I get to travel the world doing shows with @paramore !! Hayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? I’m screaming???”

Last month, Swift added dozens of shows to her Taylor Swift: The Eras stadium tour — bringing the total count of shows to a whooping 104 nights . She also extended her run at Los Angeles’ So-Fi Stadium with a sixth show scheduled for Aug. 7.

The new addition comes after the singer announced shows in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Europe earlier this week. (See below for the full tour dates.)

“EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️,” she wrote on Instagram. “I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!”

She also added more dates to her already-announced Latin America tour. After wrapping her U.S. dates in Los Angeles on Aug. 9, Swift will head to Mexico City for four straight shows at Foro Sol starting Aug. 24. She’ll then stop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil in November.

Swift first announced the tour last October after she completely took over the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with Midnights . The added dates, which follow the addition of eight new shows last week, were slotted in “due to unprecedented demand,” according to the singer’s camp.

“Good Morning America, it’s Taylor,” Swift said during the announcement. “I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time and I’ve been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I’m going back on tour. The tour is called the ‘Eras’ tour, and it’s a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

Across the tour, Swift is being supported in select cities by a combination of special guests including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN.

The Eras tour follows the cancelation of her planned 2020 Lover Fest tour, which was originally going to see her make stadium stops in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York, along with Brazil, Denmark, Norway, and Poland. “This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future,” she wrote in 2021.

Swift last went the road in 2018 for her massive Reputation Stadium Tour , which saw Swift accompanied by the likes of Charli XCX and Camila Cabello across the United States, the United Kingdom, along with Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. The tour was the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist that year.

Since her last tour, Swift has released four albums and two re-releases: Lover , Folklore , Evermore , Midnights , and Taylor’s Version editions of Fearless and Red with additional songs. In total, she’s dropped 90 tracks of new material, not including collaborations with the likes of Haim and Big Red Machine.

Fans have long wondered what music she’ll be performing on the road, with some theorizing that she’d host a residency in Las Vegas or a music festival where she’d perform different “eras” on different nights.

Along with packing her setlist with songs from Reputation in 2018, she surprised each city with an acoustic rendition of fan favorites like “Red,” “Holy Ground,” and “Wildest Dreams.” At select shows, she also brought out special guests. Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Hayley Kiyoko, and Maren Morris were among the artists to be brought out by Swift.

She previously took her 1989 album on the road for 85 dates, where she was accompanied by the likes of Mendes, James Bay, Vance Joy, and Haim. Before then was The Red Tour in 2013 and 2014, and her Speak Now World Tour from 2011 to 2012.

Taylor Swift ‘devastated' after fan dies at her Brazil concert

Taylor swift issued a statement expressing her grief following the death of fan ana clara benevides machado, 23, at her eras tour show in rio de janeiro nov. 17., by corinne heller | e news • published november 18, 2023 • updated on november 18, 2023 at 4:25 pm.

Taylor Swift is mourning the death of a fan who died at her Eras tour concert in Rio de Janeiro.

On Nov. 17, Ana Clara Benevides Machado was rushed to a hospital for treatment after falling ill at Nilton Saltos Stadium, where other fans fainted amid sweltering temperatures and many alleged they were not allowed to bring their own water into the venue. Brazilian news portal G1 quoted the Rio Municipal Health Department as saying that Ana arrived at the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital in cardiorespiratory arrest and that "resuscitation maneuvers were carried out, but, unfortunately, she did not survive. She was 23.

"I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this," Taylor wrote on her Instagram Stories Nov. 17. "There's very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young. I'm not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it."

The "Blank Space" singer continued, "I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil."

In statement posted Nov. 18 on their own Instagram, concert organizer Time for Fun wrote in Portuguese, "It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Ana Clara Benevides Machado, 23 years old. Last night, Ana Clara felt unwell and was promptly attended to by the team of firefighters and paramedics, being taken to the medical center at the Nilton Saltos Stadium for first aid protocol. Given the situation, the medical team chose to transfer her to Salgado Filho Hospital, where, after almost an hour of emergency care, she unfortunately died."

David Letterman reported for jury duty in New York City. Here's how it went.

The Legal Medical Institute (IML) has yet to certify the cause of Ana's death, which is still unknown, G1 reported.

Multiple reports stated that Ana shared videos on social media before entering the stadium, talking about the extreme heat. She attended the show with college pal Daniele Menin, who told G1 that her friend fell ill while Taylor performed "Cruel Summer," the second song on her setlist, and that first responders attempted to revive her inside the stadium for "about 40 minutes."

She said she accompanied her as she was transported to the hospital. "I received the news of the death in the hospital," she told G1. "I was the first person."

During Taylor's concert at the open-air soccer stadium, the first of her three sold-out shows in Rio, several more of the some 60,000 attendees felt ill amid the high temperatures. G1 reported that it reached over 102 degrees Fahrenheit in the city that day.

As the singer performed, many fans chanted "water," prompting the pop star to pause and ask her staff to bring them some.

"There's people who need water, right here, maybe 30, 35, 40 feet back" she said, as seen in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter . "So whoever is in charge of giving them that, just make sure that happens. Can I get a signal that you know where they are?"

Taylor Swift's Stunning The Eras Tour Stage Costumes

Another clip shows Taylor, mid-way through her song "All Too Well," accepting a water bottle from an audience member and then turning to another edge of the stage and tossing it to another person in the crowd.

The next day, Nov. 18, Time for Fun announced plans to distribute free water at Taylor's second show in the city, amid forecasts of even higher temperatures.

"New free water distribution points will be available to the public during the event," the group said on Instagram in Portuguese. "Entry into the stadium with sealed containers of water and sealed food will also be permitted, with no limitation on items per person."

The organization also said that about 200 extra employees will join the 1,230 professionals who have been working on the event, including security guards and firefighters, and that multiple medical stations and mobile ICUs would be put in place.

Brazil's Minister of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), Flávio Dino, announced in a statement "the immediate adoption of measures in response to reports of sealing or lack of water availability for consumers at shows, amid the intense heat wave that is ravaging Brazil."

As fans lined up for the show that evening, firefighters sprayed them with water, as seen in another Twitter video.

The singer channeled her 1989 era in a delicate blue Oscar de la Renta dress during the premiere of her Eras Tour movie in Los Angeles on Oct. 11. The "New Romantics" singer accessorized her red carpet look with a dazzling necklace, pale blue eye makeup, her signature red lip along and her 1989-era bob hairstyle (another nod to the release of her re-recorded version of the album out Oct. 27.)

Swift wasn't the only one whose red carpet appearance hit different, as hundreds of fans were at The Grove shopping center for the debut of her concert movie, which opens in theaters Oct. 12—one day earlier than previously announced.

Although Swift has recently been scoring headlines with her NFL outings in support of Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce , he didn't walk the red carpet with the 33-year-old and didn't appear to attend the movie premiere, which took place just one day before his team's home game against the Denver Broncos.

US singer Taylor Swift arrives for the "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" concert movie world premiere at AMC The Grove in Los Angeles, California on October 11, 2023.

The football player has been clear about trying to protect their budding connection in light of their respective fame in sports and entertainment.

David Letterman reported for jury duty in New York City. Here's how it went.

"What's real is that it is my personal life and I want to respect both of our lives," Travis said on his and brother Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast last month . "She's not in the media as much as I am doing this show every single week and having fun during the NFL season on other guys' shows."

He explained, "So everything moving forward, I think me talking about sports and saying, 'Alright, nah' will have to be where I keep it."

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which has reportedly already sold $100 million in advance ticket sales, will show footage of the spectacle during its North American leg, which wrapped in August before she picks back up in Argentina in November.

"The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far," Swift wrote on Instagram in August, "and I'm overjoyed to tell you that it'll be coming to the big screen soon."

And for fans wanting to get in the true stadium spirit, she added, "Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged."

Donald Trump begins selling knock-off Taylor Swift 'Eras Tour' t-shirts

taylor swift red tour brasil

Former President Donald Trump said he wasn't a Taylor Swift fan after the star endorsed his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, for president. However, his campaign can't say the same about the musician's merch design.

On Thursday, the Trump campaign posted on X "calling all Swifties for Trump" to get their "Trump Era shirt today." It included a link to an item on the official Trump-Vance merchandise website that closely mimics Swift's signature Eras Tour t-shirt.

Priced at $36, the "Trump Era White T-Shirt" features a black-and-white photo of the Republican presidential nominee surrounded by nine other images of him in different colored squares. Underneath the grid, two lines of text read "Donald J. Trump" and "Make America Great Again."

🚨NEW MERCH🚨 Calling all Swifties for Trump Get your Trump Era shirt today 👉 https://t.co/HkA7LwHhIC pic.twitter.com/gqqITeCOFb — Team Trump (Text TRUMP to 88022) (@TeamTrump) September 12, 2024

On Swift's official store website , various shirts and crewnecks feature a nearly identical design: A black-and-white image of the singer is centered among nine other images from her different album "eras," all colored with nearly the exact same tint and arrangement used in Trump's "Era" t-shirt. Also, the two lines of text underneath the grid reading "Taylor Swift" and "The Eras Tour" appear in a very similar font.

The similarities seemed to strike a chord with Swifties, who responded to the Trump campaign's post about the new t-shirt calling it his "lawsuit era" or saying he "deserves a cease and desist."

The new merchandise item appeared on Trump's website two days after his debate with Harris, which was also the night Swift announced her support for the Democratic candidate.

RELATED STORY | Taylor Swift endorses Kamala Harris for president

"I'm voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos," Swift wrote on Instagram, also voicing support for Harris' running mate, Gov. Tim Walz.

Swift also denounced Trump's use of AI images of her that falsely endorsed his presidential run, which she says brought her to the conclusion that she needed to make her true stance transparent.

Within an hour of her post, the Democratic campaign's store also took a note from the Swift — or rather, Swiftie — merchandise playbook and began selling "Harris-Walz friendship bracelets," with a description that read, in part, "Are you ready for it?" It's a nod to the megastar's song "...Ready For It?" from her 2017 album "reputation" and to an "Eras Tour" pastime involving the swapping of similar handmade bracelets, which was inspired by a lyric in Swift's 2022 song "You're On Your Own, Kid."

RELATED STORY | Harris-Walz campaign leans into Taylor Swift endorsement with friendship bracelets

The campaign bracelets, listed at $20 each, are expected to be released Sept. 24 following the presale that began on Tuesday, but the Harris-Walz official store says they're already sold out.

Swift has been vocal about her support for Democratic candidates in the past, confirming in 2020 that she'd be voting for President Biden and Harris. The following year, she told Vanity Fair that Trump's presidency pushed her to educate herself and then publicly support the "leadership that moves us beyond this divisive, heartbreaking moment in time."

Trump appeared to note her political history on "Fox & Friends" the morning after the debate, telling the hosts it "was just a question of time" that she'd endorse a Democrat" and calling her "a very liberal person." But he also said her endorsement would lead her to "probably pay a price for it in the marketplace."
