The best of the best! For those pressed for time or perhaps considering the budget – here is the flagship Kimberley Ultimate itinerary condensed into a single week voyage! Features several Kimberley icons including the King George Falls, the Hunter River, the Prince Regent Falls, Montgomery Reef and the Horizontal Falls.

This itinerary is provided as example only – prevailing conditions and local arrangements may cause variation. Helicopter flights can be purchased additional to the cruise tariff as a package or individually.

Night One Your ‘Welcome Aboard’ the magnificent TRUE NORTH is in the pearling port of Broome. Embarkation is at 1700 – time for a cocktail with your fellow adventurers before departing at approximately 1830. Dinner is served shortly after leaving port for the overnight cruise to Yampi Sound.

Day One Awake to the majestic Kimberley and savour an irresistible True North breakfast as we glide past Cockatoo and Koolan Islands – our attentive crew will be happy to introduce the colourful histories of both! Then it’s time to ‘personally’ introduce you to a Kimberley icon – The Horizontal Falls. Experience the awesome power of the region’s huge tidal range in an exhilarating tender ride and then climb aboard your air conditioned helicopter for a view of the falls that very few experience! Then – you will have hardly had a chance to catch your breath when, for those who can’t wait one minute longer, Leadline Creek will be the first opportunity to ‘land a barra’! Before you know it, your first day onboard will be coming to an end – but there’s still time to select a fine wine and to enjoy a leisurely evening meal as we cruise to Doubtful Bay.

Day Two This morning is devoted to exploring the Sale River. Fish the mouth for barra and then join naturalists and adventurers alike as we ‘ride the tide’ on a classic river expedition! Enjoy a swim in your very own billabong before returning to the ultimate comfort of the True North. Then, you’ll probably be enjoying lunch as we weigh anchor and cruise for another Kimberley icon – Montgomery Reef! Montgomery is a unique eco-system that must be seen to be believed – and see it you will – as 140 square miles of coral reef rises out of the ocean right before your very eyes! Water cascades from the reef as the tide falls exposing a privileged glimpse of another world! Turtles, dugong, manta rays and every imaginable sea creature abound and the helicopter puts all in perspective!

Day Three The scenery will astound and there are some not to be missed fishing spots as the True North graces the majestic Prince Regent River. At Kings Cascades we manoeuvre the True North right under the falls. Then it’s time for more ‘adventure in the tender’ – a chance to stretch the laces on your hiking boots and an opportunity to swim in yet another picture perfect billabong. The helicopter will be popular again when the first group of intrepid explorers returns from Jurassic Park!

Day Four If you think the Regent was good – wait till ya see the Hunter! With stunning red cliffs set behind rainforest and mangroves – the Hunter River is yet another awesome setting for fishing, mud crabbing, bird watching and just simply exploring! Enjoy an exhilarating hike to the hidden Jackson Falls and there’s even more splendour from the helicopter! Hopefully we’ll have time for a sunset drink on Naturaliste Island and then it’s an overnight cruise to Vansittart Bay.

Day Five Today there will be an opportunity to see the “Bradshaws” – possibly the oldest art known to man. The heli-picnic at Eagle Falls is always a ‘big hit’- enjoy a sumptuous picnic lunch amidst breathtaking scenery. The tenders will also be busy exploring local beaches and creeks. Overnight we cruise to Koolama Bay.

Day Six Yet another mighty Kimberley river – The King George! As soon as the tide is high enough, we’ll cross the sand bars at the mouth to reveal even more breathtaking river vista. Then our journey upstream will take us to the very ‘jewel in the crown’ – The King George Falls. Here we anchor at the base of the Twin Falls and you will find endless places to explore. Climb, or take the helicopter, to the top of the falls for a cruise highlight. Just the thought of leaving this magnificence will inspire mutiny! Learn about the bombing of a state-ship during WWII, then take a stroll at Tranquil Bay before we continue onto the frontier port of Wyndham.

Day Seven Your courtesy coach will arrive at approximately 0800 hours for transfer to Kununurra and your crew will already be looking forward to the next opportunity to welcome you aboard the mighty TRUE NORTH!

Welcome back to True North II ! One of the original vessels operating through the Kimberley in the 1980s, the vessel has spent recent years sailing through Indonesia. The vessel has been kept in pristine condition and will undergo a soft refurbishment in January 2023 in preparation for the 2023 season beginning in April.

True North II was originally purpose-built to explore the Kimberley, so the same level of adventure cruising will return. 22 guests will be given the opportunity to do ‘what they want, when they want’ with multiple adventure boats able to whisk guests away to those beautiful river systems and waterfalls. True North has always offered the highest level of adventure travel and will feature an onboard helicopter on most cruises.

Located on the main deck – Explorer Class staterooms feature a free standing queen size bed and a twin basin en-suite. Cabin size is 12 square metres. Other features include large panoramic windows, in-cabin entertainment and desk space.

River Class

Located on the main and lower decks – River Class cabins feature a queen size double and en-suite. Cabin size is 7 square metres. Other features include a large panoramic window or two port holes, in-cabin entertainment and option for pullman.

Ocean Class

Start your adventure by joining our coach transfer in Kununurra, before arriving on board the magnificent True North to enjoy the luxuries of our renowned galley. Then, enjoy a relaxing overnight journey to the spectacular King George River. (Read more)

The King George River

As soon as the tide is high enough at the King George, we’ll cross the sandbar at the mouth to reveal even more breathtaking river vistas. Our journey upstream will take us to the spectacular King George Fall s. The captain will position True North’s bow directly underneath the falls, giving our guests the shower of a lifetime. Eagle Falls

Today, we’ll visit the Gwion Gwion, also known as “Bradshaw” rock art - ancient paintings that may be the oldest known to man. Today, we’ll head upriver to the scenic Surveyors Creek, known for its big crocs. You’ll then have the option to join the hunt for barramundi or hop in the chopper for a ride over the ancient landscape towa rds the breathtaking Mitchell Falls. Then, join us for our exclusive pearl and diamond party. Montgomery Reef

Today, you’ll have the chance to rise at dawn to catch barramundi at “Three Ways,” followed by a bush walk to Ruby Falls, where you can swim in its refreshing natural rock pool. Then, embark on a Heli Fis hing adventure to a secret, remote location. Lunch will be served as we weigh anchor and cruise to another Kimberley icon - Montgomery Reef. Here, you’ll witness a spectacular 140 square miles of coral reef rising right out of the ocean, home to turtles, dugongs, crocodiles, and a whole world of remarkable sea creatures. (Read more)

Start the day by exploring the spectacular Yampi Sound, where you’ll have the opportunity to sight-cast for ravenous barramundi. Clerke Reef

Today the sun rises over the glorious Clerke Reef with its vast lagoon and extensive outer reef. Guided by our expert crew, snorkellers and divers will have the chance to explore the crystal-clear waters, teemi ng with vibrant fish and corals. Beachcombers can explore Bedwell Island, while anyone keen on fishing can catch and release in the lagoon using eco-friendly tackle. The action-packed day concludes with delights from the galley and your first spectacular Rowley Shoals sunset. (Read more)

Nature's Aquarium

Start today with a visit to the spectacular Aquarium, a destination that rivals the Great Barrier Reef. The water is only waist-deep, but the experience is truly once-in-a- lifetime. Discover vibrant corals, gi ant clams, and over 600 of the world’s most beautiful fish species that call this place home. After lunch, we’ll shift gears for a thrilling drift-snorkel through the outer reef, guided by our expert crew members. Wake up to another day in paradise and experience the thrill of snorkelling on the outer reef. With its breathtaking sheer coral walls, this vibrant ecosystem is home to humpback whales, manta rays, and sailfis h. End the day with sunset drinks on the beach, followed by one of our famous Island Parties. We’ll then return to the True North in Clerke Lagoon, where you can gaze at the 360-degree canopy of stars reflected in the glassy ocean. (Read more)

Today, we’ll spend the entire day exploring the outer reef of this remote and untouched wilderness. As evening falls, we’ll embark on our overnight journey to Broome, watching the Rowleys merge into a blazi ng western sky. Never seen the Kimberley Coast before, True North made it possible to access remote passages and fiords of the remote western Australian coast line. The on board helicopter was a seamless transport to see the Kimberley coast from above and gave a complete magnification of the journey, as well as permitting access to the remote indigenous cave art consented by local indigenous communities. The Montgomery Reef over 100 kms long is a powerful natural wonder that rises from the sea as the 11 metre tide drops. Both at water level at the Cruise ship and from the helicopter this amazing sight will be my highlight along with the major waterfalls enroute which we encounter as a cooling natural rainfall in the 30 degree daytime. The compact cruise ship True North boasted hotel room comfort. Food was restaurant quality embellished by the catch of the day. I loved the spacious lounge and forward deck. Finally, the major stand out was the genuine staff service culture and friendliness, I think very hard to beat. A genuinely unique experience. Highly recommended. (less)

True North II provides an intimate experience for just 22 expeditioners on her Kimberley and Australian coastal voyages.  Built in 1999, and refurbished early in 2023, True North II features a combined saloon / lounge, while the dining room offers a glamorous setting and the revered True North dining experience. Onboard, there’s also a sundeck, outdoor bar deck and a dedicated sports deck.

All cabins aboard True North II feature a private en suite, with in-house entertainment and satellite telephones. Explorer Class staterooms and River Class cabins offer queen-size beds, while Ocean Class cabins feature roomy bunk-configured singles.

True North II is purpose-built to explore coastal areas including the upper reaches of shallow river systems – guests need only step out of their cabins to experience wilderness. But the adventure doesn't stop there. Five excursion tenders provide expeditioners with greater opportunity to do “what they want, when they want” and, to add yet another dimension to adventure, most itineraries feature an onboard helicopter, available to travellers at additional cost. 

The crew of True North II are generally young Australians who create a truly authentic onboard experience. The crew are always very much part of onboard life - you may even feel as though they are having just as much fun as you are! That’s because they are – every day is an adventure for the crew as well and you will not be able to resist their enthusiasm and passion.

TRUE NORTH ITINERARY KIMBERLEY WATERFALLS

Enjoy 10 nights of bliss with our True North Itinerary Kimberley Waterfalls. 

Your “welcome aboard” the magnificent TRUE NORTH is in the pearling port of Broome. Embarkation is at 1700 – time for a cocktail with your fellow adventurers before departing at approximately 1830. 

Dinner is served shortly after leaving port for the overnight steam to Yampi Sound.

Awake to the majestic Kimberley and savour an irresistible TRUE NORTH breakfast as we glide past Cockatoo and Koolan Islands – our attentive crew will be happy to introduce the colourful histories of both! Then it’s time to ‘personally’ introduce you to a Kimberley icon – The horizontal Falls. Experience the awesome power of the region’s huge tidal range in an exhilarating tender ride and then climb aboard your air conditioned helicopter for a view of the falls that very few experience!

Take a refreshing swim and a walk on the squeaky white sands of Silica Beach.

Before you know it, your first day onboard will be coming to an end – but there’s still time to select a fine wine and to enjoy a leisurely evening meal as we set sail to Doubtful Bay.

This morning is devoted to exploring the Sale river. Join naturalists and adventurers alike as we ‘ride the tide’ on a classic river expedition! For those who can’t wait one minute longer, the mouth of the Sale offers the first opportunity to ‘land a barra’! or, take off on a heli-fishing adventure perhaps to where the salt meets the fresh!

Enjoy lunch as we weigh anchor and cruise to another Kimberley icon – Montgomery reef! Montgomery is a unique eco-system that must be seen to be believed – and see it you will – as 140 square miles of coral reef rises out of the ocean right before your very eyes! Water cascades from the reef as the tide falls exposing a privileged glimpse of another world! Turtles, dugong, crocodiles and every imaginable sea creature abound and the helicopter puts all in perspective!

The scenery will astound and there are some not-to-be-missed fishing spots as the TRUE NORTH graces the majestic Prince Regent River. This morning’s target species include delectable mangrove jack and fingermark bream. At King Cascade we will manoeuvre the TRUE NORTH right under the falls.

Next, it’s time for more ‘adventure in the tender’ – a chance to stretch the laces on your hiking boots and an opportunity to swim in yet another picture perfect billabong, or perhaps you’d like to venture further upriver to visit the spectacular ‘Amphitheatre’ waterfall. The helicopter will be popular again when  the first group of intrepid explorers returns from Jurassic Park!

Be amongst the first on deck and join an early morning fishing expedition, or see some stunning rock art or join the ship’s naturalist in one of the adventure boats – and all before another breathtaking helicopter flight to a picnic that you’ll never forget! The TRUE NORTH's mouthwatering cuisine alongside a crystal clear billabong – in one of the most remote places on earth!

Wake this morning in the magnificent Hunter River. The Hunter is about as far away as you can get in Australia – a stunning river system that is lined with dense mangrove forests and surrounded by rainforest encrusted mountains.

And, the Hunter has it all – fishing, mud-crabbing, bird-watching and simply exploring “where few have been before!” Join one of our adventure boats for a closer look, it’s only a short hike enjoy a  challenging hike to Jackson Falls and, there’s even more splendour from the helicopter! In the afternoon we will sail into Prince Frederick harbour and enjoy sunset drinks on picturesque Crystal Beach, enjoy some delicious hors d’oeuvres and watch

Wake in the stunning turquoise waters of Swift Bay. No time to dally – after an early breakfast it’s time to join the ‘hunt for the black-lip oyster’. In fact – their much-talked about proportions render them not hard to find at all! Savour their unique taste direct from the rock – aside from some freshly squeezed lemon, you can’t get much more a la naturale than that! There is also some excellent Wandjina galleries nearby and  the waters are alive with light game species such as queenfish, giant trevally and mackerel. Then join us for our pearl and diamond party! Enjoy a glass of bubbly whilst trying on exquisite pieces created by the artistes at Allure, Jewels of the Kimberley and Kimberley Fine Diamonds.

The Mitchell River is renowned for big barra and even bigger crocs! The adventure boats will head up river to the scenic Surveyors Creek – a great place for a swim (no crocs here!) The fishermen will again join the hunt for the elusive barramundi and, there will be more opportunities for helicopter flights over an ancient land including the spectacular Mitchell Falls! Join the crew for cocktail hour before experiencing another unique dining experience.

Today there will be an opportunity to see the “Bradshaws” - ancient rock art that pre-dates other examples of Aboriginal culture. In fact, they are possibly the oldest ‘paintings’ known to man. Vansittart Bay also has a reputation for producing monster mackerel! The heli-picnic at Eagle Falls is always a ‘big hit’ – enjoy a sumptuous picnic lunch amidst breathtaking scenery. The tenders will also be busy exploring the local beaches and creeks. overnight we cruise to Koolama Bay.

Yet another mighty Kimberley river – The King George! As soon as the tide is high enough, we’ll cross the sand bars at the mouth to reveal even more breathtaking river vista. Then our journey upstream will take us to the very ‘jewel in the crown’ – The King George Falls. Here we anchor at the base of the Twin Falls and you will find endless places to explore. Climb, or take the helicopter, to the top of the falls for a cruise highlight. Just the thought of leaving this magnificence will inspire mutiny! hear about the bombing of a state-ship during WWII, then take a stroll at Tranquil Bay before we continue onto the frontier port of Wyndham.
