ARCHIPEL I CRUISE REVIEWS

Cruise rating: 4.0 /5 - 4 customer reviews

Hi Veronica. I want to thank you for arranging an incredible adventure for us. Our guides were all very professional and knowledgeable and just great people to be with. Galapagos was fun and interesting and the trip to Peru was a great experience. I have nothing but positive things about our entire trip. Brad May 2023 4.0
Sebastian, I'm writing you a little late because I'm still recovering from the fatigue of our wonderful trip. My sincere thanks to you for planning all the minute details that worked like a clock. We were greeted by the travel staff at the airports, hotels, train stations, etc. Even our boarding passes were handed to us. All the guides were very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. Berry (spelling?) was extra sweet as she showed us Cusco and the surroundings. All the hotels were very well chosen. Food in Peru was exceptional. I personally liked all the Peruvians, Ecuadorians and all the fellow cruisers on Archipel 1 and enjoyed their company. The Archipel 1 crew were very kind and helpful when I needed some extra care because of my migraine headaches. I feel lucky and privileged to have had this magical trip. I can't help thinking that I should have done this in my 20's or 30's. Thank you again. I'll refer my friends to you for sure. Fusun Erkel April 2023 4.0
Dear Veronica, We returned from our trip to the Galapagos on Thursday, and I intended to write to you in order to thank you for helping us organize the trip. Everything was excellent, we loved our stay on both Archipell catamarans and found your organization of transfers and everything impeccable. When the first cruise ended at Baltra, we found someone ready to pick us up and set us on our way to Puerto Ayora in a comfortable taxi. And we were very impressed to find a taxi ready to take us from our hotel in Puerto Ayora to the pier when the day came to board the second cruise. We did not expect it, and appreciate your taking care of all these details. We realize that there is much more in Ecuador than the Galapagos, and when we will be ready for a second trip to your country, you can count on us getting in touch with you again. Thanks again, and best wishes for everything! Roberto Mazzoleni June 2018 4.0
Hello Daniela, I hope you are well. I just wanted to say thank you very much for all your help with our booking for our trip to the Galapagos. We had an amazing time and we are so pleased that we chose the Archipel catamaran. We spent a lot of time planning the trip, choosing a travel company to use and choosing the right boat and we made the right decision. We had a great crew who took care of us and were all very friendly - had some fantastic food on board and our guide was great too - very knowledgeable. We were taken care of as soon as we arrived at the airport in Quito and then when we landed in the Galapagos. We didn't have to worry about a thing as everything was taken care of. We got to see as much of the beautiful Galapagos islands that we wanted and have some wonderful memories of such a lovely place. We also met some lovely people on board the boat and we were all sad to leave at the end of the week. I would be very happy to do a review for you if you Thank you again. The way to see the Galapagos Excursions on boat and on the islands. Seeing the blue footed booby and flamingos. Recommended for Variety of things to see, food on board and small group
  • 9.6 Exceptional
The staff were amazing, food was delicious. Snorkelling Recommended for Staff service, staff friendliness, food.
  • 8.4 Very good
Unforgettable We hit all the major islands and got to interact with all the animals we’d hoped to except the elusive hammerhead. The trip was 5-stars overall, though the boat is starting to show some age. Recommended for Breadth of animals seen, passion of guide, helpfulness of staff
We had a great time on the comfortable Archival 1 exploring a variety of islands in the Galapagos. Highlights of our trip was viewing hundreds of unique birds nesting on Genovese, snorkeling with sharks, turtles and rays, and being together on this adventure. My one negative comment would be that it is not really a 4 day-3 night trip. The 4th "day" consisted of a visit to a tortoise reserve and a 10am drop off at the airport to catch our flight to Quito. I requested a later flight but were given no other option. Recommended for Variety of islands and wildlife; Comfort of the boat, crew service
  • 8.0 Very good
The experience was full of activity and great hospitality. Snorkeling with the sea lions Recommended for Guide. Food. Service.
Beautiful boat We had a wonderful trip. The boat is beautiful and very well taken care of. The schedule is a bit strange if you stay for more than 4 days as they stopover at different locations and change passengers and guide. It created some confusion and repetitive activities. I missed more vegetarian/healthy options for food and more focus on sustainability (sunscreen use, recycling etc). But all in all very good and highly recomendable. Recommended for The upper deck, the cleanliness, the comfort
  • 10 Exceptional
Fun Fabulous staff great food amazing walks wild animals good snorkeling Recommended for People animals guide
Most Amazing 8 Days of my Life! Swimming with Hammerhead Sharks, seals, penguins, turtles! Seeing the owl eating a bird, seals chilling on the Zodiac with a shark circling in the water. The boat and staff were incredible! Salsa Night! The price being 56% off due to covid! Recommended for Amazing Catamaran, Swimming with Hammerhead Sharks, Sharing these incredible experiences with new friends
The best one week vacation we've ever taken. Exploring the islands (twice a day), along with snorkeling (twice a day) and kayaking. Recommended for Naturalist, crew, small group.
Great! The whole trip was a highlight Recommended for Galapagos, Snorkeling and snorkeling

Archipell I Galapagos Cruise

Archipell I Galápagos Cruise

“watching dolphins swim beneath me took my breath away”, a galápagos cruise on board the archipell i.

What we love about the Archipell I

Large and stable catamaran, comfortable even in open water.

Engaging naturalist itineraries give you access to the true Galápagos.

Snorkeling equipment for all guests.

Sun Deck with solarium and a shaded terrace.

Archipell I Galapagos Cruise

Welcoming you onboard the Archipell I will be Captain Mario Freire and his First Mate Roberto. Your cabin will be named after one of the local species that you will see on your trip. We enjoyed chatting with the chef Guido, who comes from Macao. Make sure you try his specialty, which is a delicious "Pulpo al Ajillo". Among the extra facilities on board, we like the fact that they have a clothes dryer for guests to use, and that they carry 4 double and 1 single kayaks for guests for some extra fun on the water. Our favorite spot was lying on the bow netting watching the dolphins play beneath us. If you're lucky enough to be celebrating a birthday while on board, make sure you let Guido know, and he'll have a surprise waiting for you…

Archipell I is one of the most comfortable motor catamarans in the region. The twin hulls give her superior stability over single-hull boats and allows for much more internal space, making your stay on board more relaxing and more enjoyable. She’s also one of the faster boats in the fleet, speeding you between the islands, allowing you to spend more time with the amazing wildlife.

Archipell I features 8 wonderfully bright and welcoming cabins, 2 with double beds and 6 with twin beds. Decorated in a modern and bright style, every cabin has wonderful ocean views from generous panoramic windows. All enjoy private en suite bathrooms with crisp, fresh interiors and hot and cold water. Every cabin is air-conditioned for your comfort.

Communal spaces on board are delightful places to spend time relaxing, socializing and learning about the amazing wildlife you will be seeing from your bilingual naturalist guide. Featuring wonderful wooden furniture and trims, modern neutral decor, and artwork featuring local marine life, the lounge includes a flat screen TV with DVD and a guest library.

The dining area features a beautiful rectangular table for enjoying memorable meals in the company of newly-made friends. Food on board is freshly prepared by our chefs and is varied and healthy, with local and international delicacies.

The wonderful wooden deck boards extend to the outdoor spaces, and you will find plenty of quiet spots to take in the wonders of the islands. For unrivalled vistas, you can climb to the upper sun deck where traditional wooden loungers will let you relax in the shade of the deck canopy or out in the open, soaking up the warmth of the sun or gazing at the stars after dark.

The crew of Archipell I always go the extra mile to ensure your stay on board is a memorable one. With 9 crew for only 16 passengers, there’s always someone close at hand for your every need, yet when you want peace and quiet you’ll be left alone to relax and enjoy the ambiance. With snorkeling equipment and kayaks on board, your bilingual naturalist guides will lead you on a variety of exciting excursions designed to show you the best of Islands.

We get lots of feedback about the staff on Archipell I - it’s such a happy boat. We like the modern, unfussy decor with a fresh marine blue theme in the cabins, and the great sundeck is a favorite - it’s nice to have the choice of cool shade as well as blazing sun! We think Archipell I is a superb value for money catamaran to choose for your Galápagos adventure.

Food & Drinks on board the Archipell I

The food on our Galapágos Cruises is among the very best you will find in South America. Most of the on-board chefs are internationally trained and have prior experience working in the best hotels and restaurants in Ecuador and indeed around the world.

You can expect a first-class selection of food, including a good variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, locally sourced poultry and fish/seafood, rice and pasta dishes. Most boats will always include some typical Ecuadorian dishes on the menu during your cruise. If you have specific dietary requirements then these can usually be accommodated by the chef providing you have given advance notice. Please make sure you tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements you have at the time you book with us. If you leave it until you arrive at the dockside, then it may well be impossible to accommodate your needs.

Most boats serve a range of options at meal times in a relaxed buffet-style. At the first class and luxury end of the market, some boats have more formal dining where you will be served at your seat. However the atmosphere is always relaxed on board our cruises, and never stuffy or formal.

At Galapatours, we love and respect the pristine ecosystems and fascinating wildlife of the Galapagos Islands, and we insist that our cruise partners do the same. To protect the archipelago, all of our cruise ships must have sophisticated water filtration systems, modern and efficient engines and rigorous maintenance programs to minimize pollution. These measures ensure that the animals and habitats are not disturbed by excessive numbers of visitors. For Galapatours, preserving the Galapagos' pristine ecosystems and extraordinary wildlife is a top priority. Our commitment goes beyond the prescribed environmental standards for cruises in this region: a portion of the tour price goes towards our conservation project. This initiative empowers local communities to protect their land, participate in reforestation and prepare for long-term environmental management. In this way, your trip contributes to environmental protection and shows that travel can be a positive force. And you can do your part too by traveling responsibly and following our environmental guidelines during your stay. Click here for more information about these guidelines, our commitment to sustainable tourism and the Galapagos National Park regulations.

Archipell Galapagos

Archipell I Galapagos Cruise

Thank you very much for organising my cruise so quickly. I wanted to share the feedback after my experience on the Archipel. I had the most wonderful holiday- everything was just perfect! I will start with the Archipel's crew, as thanks to them, the cruise was so exceptional. They all were just excellent at providing outstanding costumer service, showing what hospitality stands for. Whole crew was very friendly, helpful, and looked after us so well. Our guide Carlos, was a star from the very beginning. He collected us all at the airport and announced that during our stay, we will be part of Galapagos, not tourists. Calling us 'family', he really made us feel as we were welcome there. On top of being highly knowledgeable, he speaks fluently English, and has some good sense of humour as well. Carlos was very professional, and communicated frequently and honestly with us. We always knew what to bring and what to wear for activities. He takes pride in his work, and surly will be inspiration for many visitors. The atmosphere was so friendly and relaxing, no rushing, no waiting, everyone equally amazed by the beauty of the enchanted islands, and happy that we had such a cool team. The chef made us fabulous meals, and he skillfully managed to deal with special dietary requirements (there was quite a lot of it). Everything was fresh, tasty and I'm currently working out, how to come to terms with not having delicious snack, and fresh juice or hot chocolate, after every activity! Our cabins were cleaned daily, turned down in the evenings, the lounge and common area immaculate at all times. Coffee, tea, biscuits available anytime, as well as cold beer and drinks from the bar. The panga drivers, captain and every single member of the Archipel's crew was amazing. Always with a smile. Archipel had all the facilities I needed. Fortunately we didn't spend much time on the ship, as we were constantly busy with activities. The weather was great as well, which helped. Snorkeling equipment provided was of good quality, and I quickly switched my new, annoyingly foggy mask, for the one provided. Luckily Carlos sorted my mask problem out with the flame trick. I spotted a shark immediately when I put head under the water! Having the kayaks to use was also great! The itinerary for 4 days was packed with highlights of the islands. I can't believe, how many species we saw in only four days! I loved that cruise and I return to Galapagos next year for longer.

Stefan Widermann

The best holiday so far, without a doubt (Review from TripAdvisor) Ecuador Galapagos was without any doubt the single most impressive holiday I have taken so far. At first, I was hesitant because especially Galapagos (the main land not so much) is quite an expensive destination but friends convinced us and Benno of Galapatours found a great last minute price for us on board one of the Archipels. I can say we don't regret it a bit. The crew, the food, the cabins - all was first class! Esteban, our guide, was very helpful and even considering my sea sickness during the first night I consider this the single best holiday so far. Thanks, Galapatours!

A great crew, guide, experience Everyone was so helpful, friendly and courteous. We all enjoyed the cruise. The crew, captain and guide were so nice, kind and helpful. Our guide, Alex, was extremely knowledgeable on many topics and explained about plants, animals and geology. I would highly recommend this tour and this ship to others considering a trip to the Galapagos.

One of the most amazing trips I have ever done Taken from Tripadvisor forum: Hey Lachlan_GSyndney, Hope the Reply is not too late. I went to Galapagos Islands 2 weeks ago and did a 8 day trip with Archipell 1. Friends from Quito were recomending this boat. Galapagos has its price; so my expectations for this cruise were pretty high....and I wasn´t let down!! The natural Guide,Dario, is native to Galapagos and really knows how to explain things. The Itinerary itself was really, really great ( North Seymour, Genovesa, Isla Bartolome and Isla Santiago, Santa Cruz, Floreana, Española and San Cristobal). We had a lot of activities and the most amazing was the snorkeling ( but you need to use a wetsuit (available aboard) at that time of the year, because the water is sometimes pretty cold) The Boat itself was in perfect conditions ( I haven´t seen cockroaches; the only animal i saw was a roasted turkey onthe last day :P ). The cabins were always tidy and the standard was like expected: First Class. The crew is nice and the food was just amazing and always enough for everybody ! We were 14 people but it was definitly not overcrowded because the catamaran is huge (for just 16 people.) Furthermore, for myself I didn´t had any problems with seasickness, but i guess that depends on each person. The cruise with Archipel 1 was one of my most amazing trips I have ever done. I only know the other boats through my friends and their experiences (some of them worked on boats in galapagos for several years) but they told my archipell is one of the better ones. So I guess i would recommend it ;) I hope you have/had fun on your trip and experience/experienced the same on the Archipell and Galapagos I did. Greetz, Jonas

Instead of travelling with a very large amount of people, our small groups will definitely make your nature and cruise experience more intimate and profound while discovering all the beautiful features the Galapagos has to offer.

Bringing nature even more to life

A cruise through the Galapagos Archipelago is a unique experience that you won’t easily forget. The great outdoors of this National Park form an unrivalled destination for wildlife and bird observation.

INCLUDED ACTIVITIES AND EXPERIENCES DURING YOUR CRUISE

The Galapagos Islands are an excellent destination for wildlife and bird observation, and of course also for photography and filming. Discover the wide range of activities that are included in our cruise programmes to experience the closest and most intimate encounters with wildlife, and to perceive the unique nature of Galapagos from different perspectives. Some activities depend on local conditions and will be coordinated together with the guide; others are optional, such as strolling around touristic towns or leisure and entertainment on-board.

Guided hikes

Wildlife observation, birdwatching, photography & filming, breeding project, dry & wet landings, inflatable dinghy-rides, snorkelling.

Guided hikes will give you amazing opportunities to get up close with nature during the island visits.

You can also search for Galapagos giant tortoises in moist highland forests, set foot on lunar-like lava fields, climb volcanic cones, stare into recently-erupted craters and even enter lava tunnels. Your knowledgeable National Park-certified guide will name all the species you see, and add intriguing stories about their behaviour, interesting geological formations or the conservation of the islands.

The encounters with unique and fearless animals at very short distances will definitely be one of the most fascinating and unforgettable parts of your visit to the Galapagos Archipelago. You will find yourself in the middle of an exciting nature documentary!

Even the young Charles Darwin was constantly astonished about the tameness and stoicism of various species, despite his experiments such as throwing stones at them, and shouting at or even riding apparently ‘deaf’ giant tortoises; experiments which fortunately are forbidden nowadays.

The Galapagos Islands are a birdwatcher’s dream; 29 of the 58 resident bird species are endemic (only found on the islands) such as the flightless cormorant, waved albatross, Galapagos penguin, lava and swallow-tailed gull, Galapagos hawk, four subspecies of mockingbird and of course about 14 species of Darwin’s finches, among others.

Follow in the footsteps of Sir David Attenborough, Tui de Roy and Pete Oxford. The Galapagos Islands are a paradise for image makers; probably every serious nature photographer or filmmaker – professional or amateur – aspires to visit the archipelago at least once in their lifetime.

And even for those who just want to keep a memory of their extraordinary trip, it will be difficult to select the best shots to do your photo album justice.

Visit a breeding project & visitor centre

Most of our routes also include a scheduled visit to one of the Galapagos’ giant tortoise breeding projects, an interpretive botanic trail or an interesting visitor centre.

These visits are a good introduction to the islands and they complement the briefings and field-explanations of your knowledgeable naturalist guide during the cruise. The visits are a way of showing and telling you the background stories from a different point of view, bringing the islands to life.

The island tours generally start and end with an inflatable dinghy transfer (also called ‘Zodiac’ or ‘panga’) from your yacht at the anchorage site to the island. Sometimes there is a sort of jetty or rocky shore where you can make a so-called ‘dry landing’.

Alternatively you will land on a beach where you will put on shorts and sandals or water shoes and step into shallow water (‘wet landing’). Dry landings can be slippery or somewhat bumpy when the sea is rough, but the crew is trained and always ready to help you in and out safely.

Besides the so-called terrestrial visitor sites, the Galapagos National Park also offers a host of marine visitor sites, where a variety of activities are permitted including snorkelling, scuba diving, sea-kayaking and inflatable dinghy rides (also called ‘Zodiac’ and ‘panga’).

Of course, the naturalist guide comes into play here again, to give these observation tours more significance. You generally won’t make a landing, but can observe the wildlife from the waterside, as well as the intertidal life, for example Galapagos penguins and flightless cormorants.

During your cruise there will be almost daily opportunities to immerse yourself in the amazing submarine world that surrounds you. Underwater, a giant aquarium with coral formations opens up to you. Find yourself in the middle of colourful tropical reef fish, graceful Pacific green marine turtles, huge rays and resting white-tip reef sharks (harmless to humans).

The most exciting highlights include encounters with young playful sea-lions or hunting Galapagos penguins. If you look carefully you might even spot starfish, octopuses and seahorses.

So that you can make the most of your once-in-a-lifetime Galapagos trip, we offer a well-filled daily programme. Longer hikes are usually scheduled in the morning, whilst snorkelling and swimming are in the afternoon when the sea is warmer.

The activities are interspersed with moments of rest. Don’t forget to relax during your stay and take the time to appreciate your beautiful surroundings!

We are very aware of the fragility of the Galapagos ecosystem, and minimise the ecological footprint of our operations as much as possible, whilst maintaining the highest levels of quality service and comfort.

What our travelers say about us

trustpilot

Our entire family LOVED this fantasy vacation!

They accommodated my entire wish list into a fantasy vacation! Our family of 5 (ages 28 to 63) wanted to indulge in kayaking, SUP, snorkeling, hiking, biking, and of course, seeing everything. We did it all! Really an outstanding vacation!!!

TripAdvisor

★★★★★ Epic Tour Of Ecuador This vacation was absolutely EPIC!! Everything went as planned. Great guides, and beautiful scenery. Everything about it was great. This is a go-go-tour. We added a few days in between for rest and relaxation. I would probably add one more day. Wonderful wonderful time!!

Galapagos Adventure

We went with Rebecca Adventure Travel to the Galapagos and experienced some of the best snorkeling of our lives! Of the tour operators we talked to, Rebecca Adventure Travel was by far the most responsive and provided a lot of small but important touches to our day tour.

★★★★★ 6 Day Ecuador Multisport

Great active tour with a great guide! The team of Rebecca was really on point with answering questions through email and gave us a lot of information beforehand. Would highly recommend 🙂

Land-based tour of the…

We got a lot of help to customize it to our interests. Overall the experience was very good. They arranged day tours at each destination and all transfers. We had great tour guides, they were timely, the boats were great, and they fed us well. The snorkeling guides were very professional.

Day 1 - Monday: San Cristobal Airport - Colorado Hill (San Cristobal)

AM – Flight to San Cristobal Airport (SCY)

Upon arrival at San Cristobal Airport, travelers pass through an airport inspection point to insure that no foreign plants or animals are introduced to the islands, as well as to pay the park entrance fee of $100 (unless it has been prepaid). A guide will meet you, help you collect your luggage, and escort you on a short bus ride to the harbor.

PM – Cerro Colorado (San Cristobal)

Cerro Colorado Tortoises Protection and Growing Center, located at 40 minutes approximately by bus to the south east of the island. This center was built to improve the status of the population of the island tortoises. The center includes a large corral, a Visitors center, breeding center and an interpretative trail. Along this trail is possible to see different species of native and endemic plants as well birds as the San Cristobal Mockingbird, Yellow Warblers, and many species of finches and the Galapagos flycatcher. On your visit to Colorado Hill, you will be able to discover the amazing and emblematic giant Galapagos Tortoises in the tortoise breeding centre, and maybe even get to see one hatch (seasonally)! In addition, you will get to see how much hard work is put into saving the last local giants of San Cristóbal.

Day 2 - Tuesday: South Plaza and Santa Fe Islands

AM – South Plaza

South Plaza is located to the east of Santa Cruz Island, and forms part of a pair of islands known as “Islas Plazas”. Despite its small size, some of the most interesting and outstanding species of the Galapagos are found here. The Plazas land iguanas are smaller than their relatives on other islands. Throughout the island there are several hybrid iguanas, a result of crossing a marine iguana with a land iguana. They are unique and can be recognized at first glance by their black/grey color, with a land iguana’s crest, but face and tail of the marine iguana. The big population of iguanas is due to the presence of tuna, their favourite food. Swallow tailed gulls nesting in the rugged cliffs are seen along with other seabirds as: audubon shearwaters, red-billed tropic-birds, frigate birds and brown pelicans.

PM – Santa Fe

Located in the southeastern part of the Galapagos, this island was formed from an uplift rather than being of volcanic origin, which is why it is mostly flat. There are some theories which claim that this could be the oldest island in the Archipelago. Santa Fe is home to a number of endemic species like the Galapagos Hawk, Galapagos snake, Galapagos mockingbird, rice rats and one of the two species of lands iguanas of the islands. After disembarking into the beautiful and clear waters you will be in contact with one of the many sea lion colonies. Along the trail many salt bushes can be seen as well as the giant prickly pear cactus – gigantism is a characteristic of oceanic islands. There are many possibilities to snorkel with playful sea lions and tropical fish.

Day 3 - Wednesday: Floreana Island

AM – Champion Islet (Floreana)

Bottlenose dolphins frequently escort our passage to Champion Islet and you can see them from nearby jumping the wakes! Underwater, Galapagos sea lions are playful acrobats that become the number one attraction. There are also lots of reef fish, and perhaps a green Pacific turtle. An inflatable dinghy ride along the shoreline of this islet offers sightings of lots of seabirds that are endemic to the archipelago, including Galapagos penguins, blue-footed boobies, magnificent frigate birds, red-billed tropic-birds, swallow-tailed gulls and lava herons. A birdwatcher’s wish is to get a glimpse of the Charles mockingbird on top of prickly pear cacti. This mockingbird is a scientific and historic key species, because it put Darwin on track of his theory of ‘adaptive radiation’.

PM – Loberia & Asylum of Peace (Floreana)

The Asylum of Peace Island is of historical interest for guests. This hike goes past a mesmerising cave and visits a fascinating freshwater spring. La Loberia beach is an ideal spot to enjoy the ocean, as well as the playful sea lions that live there.

Day 4 - Thursday: Santa Cruz Island - Baltra Airport

Charles Darwin Research Station

Although the great majority of Galapagos visitors come here to observe and appreciate natural wonders, it is also interesting to learn how the protection and conservation of the islands are carried out. The main attractions are the National Park information centre, the Van Staelen Exhibition Hall, the Breeding and Rearing Centre for young tortoises, and adult Galapagos tortoises in captivity.

Transfer out to Baltra Airport (GPS)

Assisted by the naturalist guide and some crew members, the dinghy will bring you and your luggage to Baltra Island, where we will take the shuttle back to the airport.
