Yes, we have room for luggage, There is enough room for one large case and one carry on bag per person on all tours.

Can I be dropped off somewhere else after the tour ends?

Yes, we can drop you at any central hotel location. Please check with your driver on the day.

What is the minimum number of seats you need for a tour to be confirmed?

We require a minimum of 5 people for our tours to operate. If your tour has not reached minimum numbers, we will contact you a few days prior and either try and provide you with another option, or offer a full refund.

Why does my booking say “Pending”? This means we are waiting to hear back from one of our partner operators, and will get back to you as soon as possible with a confirmation. Please note we may not be always able to confirm all booking requests, but we do our best to provide an alternative if we are unable to.

Then your middle earth Journey starts by hopping on The Hobbiton Bus that takes you to The Hobbit Village where your guide will do a two and half hour guided tour through The Hobbit Holes, The Mill, The Double Arched Bridge and have a complimentary drink at The Green Dragon Inn.

In 1998, Sir Peter Jackson’s team of location scouts were searching for the iconic rolling hills and lush green pastures of Hobbiton™. An aerial search led them to the Alexander farm, a stunning 1,250 acre sheep farm in the heart of the Waikato. They noted the area’s striking similarity to The Shire™, as described by JRR Tolkien, and quickly realised that the Hobbits had found a home.

In March 1999 the crew began the nine month quest to bring the ideas for Hobbiton to fruition; help was provided by the New Zealand Army, and soon 39 temporary Hobbit Holes™ were scattered across the 12 acre plot used for the set.

Filming commenced in December 1999, and it took around three months to get a wrap on The Shire.

In 2009, Sir Peter Jackson returned to film The Hobbit Trilogy, and he left behind the beautiful movie set you’ll see today; 44 permanently reconstructed Hobbit Holes, in the same fantastic detail seen in the movies. There’s an abundance of movie magic nestled inside the fully operational farm.

Our experienced guides look after you all day from pick-up to drop-off at your Auckland city centre accommodation. They include a full commentary on the way with insights into the areas you are travelling through and background to the movie set you are visiting. On the way down to Hobbiton there is a brief stop at a local café in case you want to buy some local baking or a coffee (or as we like to call it a ‘second breakfast’).

At Hobbiton we will take you down to the set itself and have one of the specialist Hobbiton guides take you on a walking tour around the 44 Hobbit holes . You will get the chance to have a photo in the doorway of a Hobbit house, see the Party Tree and stand by the gate to Bilbo’s house Bag End overlooking the whole set to the hills in the distance.

Before your feast in the Party Marquee (from 2021) you cross the bridge by the mill to go into the Green Dragon Inn where you can enjoy a complimentary ale, cider or ginger beer.

After lunch, we’ll give you a 10 NZD souvenir voucher to spend at the Hobbiton gift shop before we head back to your accommodation in Auckland, arriving back mid-afternoon before the traffic builds up.

We have been running tours from Auckland to Hobbiton movie set for over 5 years and work closely with Hobbiton to make sure you get the most out of your time at Hobbiton. There is no need to change vehicles when you are travelling with us – our guides are with you all day and will drive you down to the movie set and pick you up from there after lunch.

The tour at Hobbiton is a walk and is not wheelchair accessible. However, there is a golf cart we can order there (additional costs) based on availability for clients. Clients who are in wheelchairs will need to be able to make their own way onto our vehicles (2 or 3 steps up) and bring a collapsible wheelchair for the boot of the vehicle.

All tours can be booked and paid for on line for instant confirmation. From 1st December, 2023 go behind the door and walk through a new 3 room theme Hobbit House on Bagshot Row - tour price rises to $360 per adult.

Up to 30 days prior to travel your deposit is forfeit. 30 - 15 days prior to travel 50% of your tour cost is forfeit. 14- 2 days prior to travel 75% of your tour cost is forfeit. Less than 2 days - no refund.
