Question and answer

My corsa is in km. How do I change it to miles?

To change the Corsa from kilometers to miles, follow these steps: 1. Turn on the ignition and turn the steering wheel once from lock to lock. 2. If the control indicators "c" and "b" do not turn off after calibration, seek the assistance of a workshop. 3. The cruise control can store and maintain speeds of approximately 20 mph to the maximum vehicle speed. Deviations from the stored speeds may occur when driving uphill or downhill. 4. For safety reasons, the cruise control cannot be activated until the brake pedal has been pressed once. Activating it in first gear is not possible. 5. Do not use the cruise control if it is not advisable to maintain a constant speed. 6. On vehicles with automatic transmission or manual transmission, automated cruise control can be activated in automatic mode and manual mode. 7. To turn on the cruise control, press the "m" button. The control indicator "m" in the instrument cluster will light up white. 8. Accelerate to the desired speed and turn the thumb wheel to "SET/-" to store and maintain the current speed. The control indicator "m" in the instrument cluster will light up green. The set speed will be shown on the display. 9. The accelerator pedal can be released, and the vehicle speed can be increased by pressing the accelerator pedal. When the accelerator pedal is released, the previously stored speed will be resumed. 10. To increase the speed with the cruise control active, hold the thumb wheel turned to "RES/+" or briefly turn it to "RES/+" repeatedly. The speed will increase continuously or in small increments. Alternatively, you can accelerate to the desired speed and store it by turning the thumb wheel to "SET/-". 11. To reduce the speed with the cruise control active, hold the thumb wheel turned to "SET/-" or briefly turn it to "SET/-" repeatedly. The speed will decrease continuously or in small increments. 12. To deactivate the cruise control, press the "y" button. The control indicator "m" in the instrument cluster will light up white. The last stored speed will remain in memory for later speed resumption. 13. The cruise control will be automatically deactivated if the vehicle speed is below approximately 20 mph, the vehicle speed drops more than 15 mph below the set speed, the brake pedal is pressed, the clutch pedal is depressed for a few seconds, the selector lever is in N, the engine speed is in a very low range, the Traction Control system or Electronic Stability Control is operating, the parking brake is applied, or simultaneous pressing of "RES/+" and the brake pedal deactivates the cruise control and deletes the stored speed.

Cruise Control

Cruise Control

Cruise control can be retrofitted to all Corsa D vehicles regardless of specification or engine.

The amount of work required to fit it can vary dependant upon what engine you have.

A single wire may need to be added between the stalk and the BCM, see below for more information

Missing Wiring Check

If you fit the stalk and find that the plug is there to connect onto the cruise stalk, but cruise control still does not work, you may be missing a wire from the BCM to the Column Switch Module. The illustrations below show where to look for the wire. If the terminals are empty, you need to add a wire in.

What is Adaptive Cruise Control?

Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is an advanced driver assistance feature that not only maintains a set speed as traditional cruise control does but also adjusts the vehicle’s speed to keep a safe distance from the car in front. This technology is designed to reduce the stress of driving, especially on long journeys or in heavy traffic.

Some car manufacturers have their own branded versions of ACC. For instance, BMW calls it Active Cruise Control, Audi refers to it as Adaptive Cruise Assist, Mercedes-Benz names it Distronic, Lexus uses Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Nissan has Intelligent Cruise Control, and Hyundai labels it Smart Cruise Control.

What Does Adaptive Cruise Control Do?

The key word in adaptive cruise control is ‘adaptive’. Unlike standard cruise control, which lets you set a speed and keeps it constant until you intervene, ACC adjusts the speed based on the traffic ahead. It uses sensors to detect vehicles in front and automatically accelerates or decelerates to maintain a safe following distance. This not only provides a smoother driving experience but also enhances safety by reducing the likelihood of collisions.

How Does Adaptive Cruise Control Work?

Adaptive cruise control systems use radar or laser sensors placed on the front of the car, typically in the grille or at the top of the windscreen. These sensors continually scan the road ahead to detect other vehicles. The system calculates the distance to the vehicle in front and adjusts the car’s speed accordingly.

When the road is clear, ACC maintains the set speed. If it detects a slower-moving vehicle ahead, it will reduce the speed by controlling the accelerator and brakes, maintaining a pre-set gap. Once the road is clear again, the system will accelerate back to the original speed.

A white 2025 Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatchback car driving on a highway. The car has a sleek and modern design with alloy wheels. The background is blurred due to the car's speed.

How Do You Use Adaptive Cruise Control?

Using ACC is straightforward. Once you reach your desired speed, press the ‘Set’ button on your steering wheel. The system will then take over the acceleration. You can adjust the speed using the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons. When the system locks onto a slower-moving vehicle, it will maintain a safe following distance that you can adjust using the controls.

ACC can be particularly useful in slow-moving traffic. Some systems are capable of bringing the car to a complete stop and then restarting it, making stop-and-go traffic much less stressful.

How Do I Know If My Car Has Adaptive Cruise Control?

Many modern cars come equipped with adaptive cruise control, either as a standard feature or an optional add-on. To check if your car has ACC, look for specific buttons on the steering wheel labeled ‘Cruise’, ‘Cancel’, ‘Res +’, and ‘Set –’. Additionally, there may be a button to adjust the following distance. If your car has a digital display on the instrument panel, it might also show the status of the ACC system.

Even affordable models like the Vauxhall Corsa offer ACC in higher trim levels.

Advantages of Adaptive Cruise Control

Adaptive cruise control offers several benefits that make it a valuable feature for long-distance driving. Firstly, it reduces fatigue by taking over the constant need to adjust the speed, giving your right leg a much-needed break. Secondly, it helps you maintain a consistent speed, reducing the risk of speeding tickets. Lastly, it acts as an additional safety layer, providing early warnings if the traffic ahead slows down unexpectedly.

Disadvantages of Adaptive Cruise Control

While ACC is incredibly useful, it’s not without its drawbacks. One concern is that it might encourage drivers to pay less attention to the road, relying too heavily on the system. It’s crucial to remember that ACC is an aid, not a substitute for attentive driving. Some drivers also find it unsettling to have the car control acceleration and braking, preferring to handle these tasks manually.

Is Adaptive Cruise Control Safe to Use?

Car manufacturers invest millions in research and development to ensure their driver assistance systems are safe and reliable. When used correctly, ACC can make driving safer by maintaining safe following distances and reacting faster than human drivers. However, it’s essential to remain in control and attentive, as you are still responsible for steering and making critical driving decisions.

Real-World Examples of Adaptive Cruise Control

Many popular car models feature adaptive cruise control. For example, the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class both come with advanced ACC systems that enhance their already impressive safety suites. Similarly, the Audi A3 and Ford Focus offer ACC as part of their optional technology packages.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Like any advanced system, ACC requires occasional maintenance to ensure it functions correctly. Keep the sensors clean and free from obstructions like dirt, snow, or ice. If the system malfunctions, consult your vehicle’s manual or take it to a qualified technician.

Future of Adaptive Cruise Control

The future of adaptive cruise control looks promising, with advancements in AI and machine learning likely to enhance its capabilities. Future systems may include better integration with other driver assistance technologies, such as lane-keeping assist and automated emergency braking, paving the way for semi-autonomous driving experiences.

Final Thoughts

Adaptive cruise control is a game-changing feature that can significantly enhance your driving experience. Whether you’re navigating long highways or dealing with stop-and-go traffic, ACC offers convenience and safety benefits that make it well worth considering.

SID - Wow, very ballsy of you to do this install! YuDanJa - Very good point, I'm sure we'll have one soon.

SID your so cool to have the guts to install that! i think we both have the same model of CT. im also interested of installing this feature, but one thing thats bothering me is that, how can you make sure if (after installing) the cruise control will work for this certain model of CT200h? sorry for the noobie question. Thanks!

I've got cruise control, but what I want is the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control...Probably too expensive to be worth it..?

cruise control button in corsa

Definitely too expensive to be worth it. Plus all the wiring that needs to be run too. UGH.

@SID hi Sid!! Good news, I got the package from Sewell awhile ago. when I got home, I unpack the package at once and installed the cruise control kit. It took me less than 5mins because of your write up! Cool! Thanks man! Drove the CT and tested the cruise control. It works perfectly! Regarding the damper, i will assemble it as soon as I have time this weekend.

How's the rubber cargo tray working for you? I was thinking of getting it.

I know this post is old but I would like to offer my thanks to the original poster for such a thoughtfully written account including parts numbers. I have ordered the parts from my UK Lexus dealer and these will be fitted next month. I always thought that all our was lacking was cruise control. I can do without the leather seats, the heated mirrors and seat and the built in sat nav but the cruise control is something which I don't like to be without. My UK dealer who has been very helpful has never been asked to provide parts for retro-fitting cruise control...somewhat surprisingly! If any uk members are interested, Antony Wilson At Lexus Hatfield is the man to speak to.

I had no idea that any CT's came without cruise control, is that just in non-US models?

Certainly, the CT has fallen victim to cost engineering in good old rip off UK. Nobody in UK had a space saver spare tyre for example, everyone had a little pot of goo (which costs about 180 dollars to replace when it is 3 years old and when used to repair the tyre, renders the tyre completely useless beyond its trip to the dealer for a replacement) and a compressor.

everyone had a little pot of goo Click to expand...

I wasn't feeling sufficiently confident to tackle the air bag but having seen the task in photos, I sent the list of parts to my dealers and asked them to fit the switch during the next scheduled service. Either they ordered the wrong part number for the steering wheel cover, or the number is listed here incorrectly since the item which arrived didn't have the hole in it for the switch to pass through. This is an easily solved minor glitch. The point is, I now have fully functional cruise control. Thanks for the useful information OP. For those of you in UK who may be interested, I had the work done at Lexus Hatfield. The chap who dealt with my enquiry can be contacted on [email protected] This isn't the first time that Lookers have helped me out with out of the ordinary work requests with retro fitting option parts and I can thoroughly recommend them.

SID you are a legend! your photo walkthrough made this task look so easy that even i decided to have a pop at it! I used to work at Toyota so looked at ordering the parts from them instead, was a lot cheaper than Lexus too at £101 inclusive of VAT. 20 mins later and I'm cruising down the road, literally. I was a bit nervous about removing the drivers airbag to be honest, but actually was way easier than i thought. Many thanks SID!

Hello everyone! I'm in Uk. London. Will anyone help me with some advice or even do it for me. I'm in the same situation like you without cruise control. Thanks a million

H All, Many thanks OP and others this has given me the confidence to get started. I was thinking of doing it myself. Just wondering if I could buy the non-genuine part (inparticular) L84632-34011 Switch, A/Drive from eBay which will cost~£15 compared to over £100? Alternatively, I could by the full steering wheel from a breakers whichinclude the CC bits for ~£70, I think. Any advice would be much appreciated. Many Thanks!

Hi SID, you are really my rock star! In Denmar, the car import TAX is 180% which means that we need to pay 280% car price. So a lot of LEXUS sold in Denmark are super crappy. I just bought a 2011 CT200h without CC, you really save my right foot!

Why the images are blocked??

SID said: Ok, i was dissapointed that my CT hasn't cruise control. So, if you feel the same , then you will need the folowing stuff: 1. 8463234011 cruise control switch (for cars without PCS) 2. 8463348020 wire 3. 4518676010C0 cover steering wheel 4. screw M5 10mm x2 (i'm not used original) 5. free time ~ 30 min and can of favorite beer The steps: First of all and important, take off the minus wire from the 12V battery and wait ~2 minutes. Then take off the covers from the both sides of the steering wheel (use thin screwdriver) Now we need: from the left side push down lower steel wire and push up upper (look at red circles on image), from the right side only upper. Carefully pull the driver airbag... .. and we will see this yellow circle - wire connection hole red circles - switch mount holes Ok, now insert the switch inside and place over holes Connect wire, screw bolts.. we almost finished Now, get the driver airbag back (just place it over and push), left cover and new right cover. Thats it! Connect the minus to 12V battery and turn the engine ON. The new green indicator is telling us that now we got CC!!! Click to expand...

For a idea about a DIY retrofit

I should read before I post!

Just wanted to say thank you for this. I had registered a long time ago but lost my username but I'm back with another and I finally got this installed. Couldnt believe how easy it was and £12 well spent! Though it's odd to not see the speed on the screen as with other cars! Hugely appreciated though!
