DO I NEED TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?!

No way! We believe travel is for everyone! Give us your budget and we will create an itinerary that works for you! Personalized itineraries include all price information so you can see exactly what everything costs and how it adds up for you to stay within your budget. We can include plenty of free activities for you to see your chosen location without racking up the cost! And we have three product options so you can choose how much you want to spend on planning!

CAN'T I DO THIS MYSELF?

You sure can! Many people poll their friends on social media for recommendations that end up being too vague or uninteresting. Then there's the hours upon hours you might spend slogging through travel websites that list the same generic activities, and thousands of hotel listings that start to make your eyes cross! Then there's the hassle of making sure everything is actually feasible to get to within a day and how you're going to get there. We also  make sure to research and include local events and festivals that are happening during your trip dates, so no two vacations look the same!  We are here to create a vacation that you will love without the stress that comes with it! You get your time back and you get to enjoy!

WHY DO I NEED TO BOOK THINGS MYSELF?

The short answer is: TO SAVE YOU MONEY! The long answer is: Because we are not a travel agency, we provide consultation only. We do not provide packages that overcharge you for things you don't want or need. You pay only for the activities you choose to book, and we provide the direct link so that all you have to do is click, enter your information, and you're done! This keeps your financial information safer, and keeps you in control of your trip!

WHEN SHOULD I FIRST CONTACT YOU ABOUT MY TRIP?

Ideally, you should get in touch 4-12 weeks before your trip. Any sooner than that and we can't find the latest happenings to add to your itinerary, ie. festivals and culture days, because city event calendars haven't been published yet. Because we work one-on-one, we take great care to make the best itineraries for you with amazing detail, so itineraries generally take 2-4 weeks to create. If your vacation will be happening sooner than that (who doesn't love spontaneous trips?!), let us know so we can work together to get it to you faster.

WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE MY ITINERARY? CAN I GET A REFUND?

We believe communication is key! If the activities we chose are not to your liking, no problem! You'll get one free edit. Just let us know the activities you don't want, and what else you're looking for. We'll work one-on-one with you to find a great replacement! No refunds are given.

WHAT IF THERE ARE UNEXPECTED ITINERARY CHANGES OR CANCELLATIONS?

We are not responsible for any changes in schedule, whether one of your party becomes ill/injured or if any venue on the itinerary cancels or changes its hours. If a venue cancels after purchasing tickets, making reservations, etc, please get in contact with the venue itself for refunds. (We would be happy to help point you in the right direction.) Sylvia has been in the Travel Industry for over 20 years.  Having started in the industry as a travel consultant, she has applied her knowledge and experience to manage a corporate travel program for a large Canadian retailer, provide front line support as a TMC Operations Manager and assist clients with their travel programs as an Account Manager.  Sylvia’s current role utilizes this combined experience for client and technology implementations.

Valerie Anderson

Manager, Training & Operations

Valerie brings over 30 years experience in the travel industry to her role as Training Manager at Custom Travel Solutions. She began with an adventure focus before moving to Corporate travel where she focused on training, travel related systems, overall company efficiency systems and processes. She is responsible for all aspects of training the Custom Travel Team, and is part of the implementation team who works to onboard new accounts. Her extensive Sabre knowledge including integration with the online booking tool and back office systems make her a key resource to clients and colleagues alike.

Brenda Damstrom

Brenda is the first certified Concur Specialist in North America which shows her love and dedication to the Online Booking Tool landscape.  Brenda is also well versed in all things Zeno, including site build specialist and support desk for WCB. She has been in the industry over 20 years with 12 of those years with CTS.

HOW TO BOOK YOUR CUSTOM TRIp

Planning your journey begins with a call.

You'll speak with one of our regional experts, ideally 6–12 months before your anticipated departure, though we often can manage with a shorter lead time. First, we’ll discuss your needs and expectations, then provide an approximate per-person per-day cost for the journey.

Questions to Consider

How many people are you traveling with? What are your special interests? (e.g., wildlife, trekking, visiting cultural sites) What are your comfort and style requirements? Are there any special considerations that might affect our planning? (e.g. financial or medical, a special celebration)

Itinerary Development Deposit

After our initial conversation, if you would like our team to proceed with planning your trip and creating a customized itinerary, we will require receipt of an Itinerary Development Deposit. Because of the time and attention we put into handcrafting each journey, this fee serves as an agreement that you are dedicated to working with GeoEx. This deposit will be credited toward your final balance, but is not refundable should you decide to cancel. The deposit amount varies depending on the size of the group, the length of the trip, and other factors. Typical deposits start at $1,000, depending on the destination and demand. Safaris, boat charters, and certain other special trips may require a higher amount. Once we have received this deposit, we can fine-tune each detail of your adventure of a lifetime.

Itinerary Proposal

After we have received your itinerary development deposit, we will propose a specific itinerary with the dates or date range based on your availability. We will be ready to discuss itinerary details and air schedules, and will continue to make adjustments based on your feedback. Once you have approved the proposed itinerary, we will reserve space at the chosen hotels and provide you with an exact trip cost. We can still continue to fine tune until you’re completely comfortable with the itinerary.

Confirmation, Deposit & Trip Preparation Packet

Once you have approved the itinerary and price, we will book all your arrangements with an additional per-person deposit (this amount can vary from trip to trip, up to 35 percent of trip cost). We will then send a detailed invoice to you and a comprehensive packet of trip preparation materials to each participant.

Final Payment

120 days before departure, completed paperwork and the balance of the land cost are due. Payment schedules for boat trips and some other special departures vary and may be required on an earlier date. After we have received all paperwork and payments, your air tickets (if purchased through GeoEx), final itinerary, trip briefing, and contact numbers will be sent approximately three weeks prior to departure.

Cancellations & Refunds

If you need to cancel your trip (or any portion thereof), you should notify GeoEx in writing. In addition to the nonrefundable itinerary development deposit, we will assess a cancellation charge to cover communication expenses, as well as loss of advance payments made by GeoEx. Cancellation charges vary from trip to trip; you will be advised of terms prior to booking. Please review our complete Terms of Service .

New Zealand is tripling the cost for tourists to enter the country.

The Tourism Minister says maintaining infrastructure and paying to preserve the country’s sprawling conservation areas are the reasons the price is being increased.

The levy fee will triple to NZ$100 ($92AUD) from October 1. But the charge does not apply to New Zealand or Australian citizens, or citizens of many Pacific Island nations.

Tourism groups are concerned the hike will dissuade travellers.

But the Tourism Minister says a $100 levy would represent about 3 per cent of what the average international tourist spent in New Zealand, and an increased rate was in-line with Australia and the UK.

“Increasing the (levy) means we can continue to grow international tourism to support economic growth while ensuring international visitors contribute to high-value conservation areas and projects,” Tourism Minister Matt Doocey said on Tuesday.

“ … Such as supporting biodiversity in national parks and other highly visited areas and improving visitor experiences on public conservation land,” Mr Doocey said.

New Zealand’s Department of Conservation oversees about 30 per cent of the country’s land, designated as protected areas under various headings including national parks, animal areas and conservation areas.

The government introduced the NZ$35 levy in 2019. In consulting on the hike, 93 per cent of more than 1000 respondents supported increasing the fee.

The current fee raises about NZ$80m each year, while New Zealand taxpayers pay about NZ$884m a year on tourism and conservation, Conservation Minister Tama Potaka said.

In the last financial year, the number of arrivals from Australia into New Zealand rose to 1.2 million.

Analysis by the New Zealand tourism department shows Australians spend about $3bn each year in Aotearoa.

About 39 per cent of Australian visitors are going for a holiday, and 42 per cent are visiting friends and family.

More than half, 58 per cent, fly direct to the South Island, and more Australians land in Queenstown (43 per cent) than in Auckland (38 per cent).

The New Zealand Airports Association boss said the increase “cemented New Zealand as one of the most expensive countries in the world for a holiday today”.

“Increasing the (levy), increasing visa fees, and proposals for new charges on regional airports have landed as a triple-whammy for our sector, which is trying to work hard for New Zealand’s economic recovery,” NZ Airports chief executive Billie Moore said.
