The following weekend, the tour will head to Nokia, Finland for the second Major of the year, the 2023 European Open. For players not going to Europe, this leg of the tour provides a chance to rest, reconnect with family and friends, and get ready for the end of the year Elite+, Playoff, and PDGA Major events.

2023 KC Wide Open Recap

Many players decided to take last weekend’s Silver Event in Kansas off to leave time to get ready for Europe. That said, Team Innova’s Emily Beach was there and getting work done. She finished in 9th, her sixth top ten so far this season. Emily led the field in Scramble rate, was 3rd in Fairway Hit percentage, and had the lowest OB rate in the FPO. Emily will be staying in the States during the European tour stretch so she should be well-rested, practiced, and eager to get back to competition come Ledgestone.

WEATHER THIS WEEKEND

For the 2024 Discraft Great Lakes Open (DGLO) in Milford, Friday carries the highest chance of rain and thunderstorms, with a front moving through in the evening. Saturday’s forecast is still uncertain, so keep an eye on potential updates regarding rain. Temperatures will drop through Saturday before warming slightly on Sunday, though winds will make it feel similar across the weekend. Expect cooler air to move in after Friday’s front, setting the stage for a potentially brisk but manageable weekend.

FPO LOOKAHEAD

  • FPO1 Feature Card: Missy Gannon, Kristin Tattar, Ohn Scoggins, & Holyn Handley
  • FPO2 Feature Card: Ella Hansen, Paige Pierce, Kat Mertsch, & Chantel Budinsky

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ Eveliina Salonen’s Momentum

Eveliina Salonen is riding high after capturing her first World Championship title and fourth DGPT event win of the year. Salonen has been a force from tee to green in 2024, leading the FPO field with an average of 23.3 strokes gained per event. She’ll be looking to add another trophy to her collection, however, with the unique challenge of the Toboggan course and a deep field of competitors, it won’t be an easy task.

2️⃣ Kristin Tattar Returns

Kristin Tattar , the 2021 DGLO champion, is making her return to the tournament for the first time since her victory. Tattar has been nothing short of spectacular this season, leading the FPO division with five DGPT event wins. Coming off a strong 3rd-place finish at Worlds, Tattar is eager to reclaim her throne at DGLO. Her ability to navigate the Toboggan course and maintain her form will be crucial in determining whether she can secure her sixth win of the season.

3️⃣ Ohn Scoggins Defends Her Title

Ohn Scoggins took home her first Elite Series victory at last year’s DGLO, but she’s coming off a disappointing 12th-place finish at the World Championships—her first event outside the top 10 since 2023. With a remarkable track record of top finishes, Scoggins will be looking to bounce back and defend her title at a course that clearly suits her game. Her precise putting and ability to avoid OB strokes make her a formidable competitor on this layout.

MPO LOOKAHEAD

disc golf pro tour norway

  • MPO1 Feature Card: Isaac Robinson, Simon Lizotte, Paul McBeth, & Anthony Barela
  • MPO2 Feature Card: Eagle McMahon, Niklas Anttila, Luke Taylor, & Ben Callaway

1️⃣ Simon Lizotte’s Title Defense

Simon Lizotte’s 2023 victory at DGLO was a masterclass in precision and power, and he’ll be looking to replicate that success this year. Lizotte has a strong track record at DGLO, with three consecutive top-10 finishes. With the competition fiercer than ever, Lizotte will need to bring his A-game to hold off the challengers and claim back-to-back victories.

2️⃣ Eagle McMahon’s Quest for a Third Title

Eagle McMahon has been nothing short of spectacular at DGLO. With two titles already under his belt and a podium finish at the recent PDGA Pro Worlds, McMahon is riding high on confidence. Remarkably, he has never finished lower than 2nd at DGLO, a testament to his mastery of the Toboggan course. Fans will be eager to see if he can continue his streak of dominance and secure his third DGLO victory.

3️⃣ The Return of the Champions: Heimburg & Wysocki

Calvin Heimburg and Ricky Wysocki are two of the most formidable competitors on the tour, and both have a storied history at DGLO. Heimburg, the 2022 champion, has been a model of consistency with four top-10 finishes in his five appearances at the event. Wysocki, the 2013 DGLO winner, has similarly impressive credentials, with podium finishes in three of his five starts. As they return to the Toboggan course, both players are hungry for another victory, setting the stage for an epic battle between these disc golf titans.

All the action starts on Thursday, September 5th! Tune in to the Disc Golf Network and catch post-pro coverage from JomezPro all weekend.
