CUSTOMER REVIEW

The May trip to Japan “The Best Of Central Honshu”, was a very good experience especially the Alpine Route. This “Premium Tour” small group was very good, from total strangers became good friends. Very Good Food and Hotel arrangements. I would like to compliment Ms Diana Chua, our Singapore Tour Leader, she is pleasant, very caring and helpful. The Japan Tour Guide Philip Tan was good too.

As a first-time client of Travel Curators, I did not know what to expect. But by the end of my trip, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of their service, their systematic planning and especially their responsiveness throughout the trip to last minute requests. They lived up to their billing as a white glove travel concierge service. While I could do my own research and plan a rough itinerary to meet my families’ specific interests, Travel Curators helped tremendously. Thanks to Travel Curators, my family left Japan with many fond memories.”

Had a 12 day private tour to Japan via Dynasty Travel. Overall, a refreshing, memorable and meaningful trip given our focused and free and easy tour. Meticulous and customised arrangements to fulfil our requirements. We thus have a good grasp of both Kyoto and Nagoya, and Japan in general after this trip.

Good food and hotel and itinerary. Their tours are good. Went with them to Turkey in Oct 22.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience to Central Honshu with Dynasty travel in May. Itinerary is good (esp. the Alpine Route!) and not so rushing throughout the trip. Tour leader, Diana, is friendly, well organized and helpful. She attend to our needs from simple things like buying fruits to buying Sake. 🍶😁 Also, Diana always make effort to look out on my elderly sister! Our travelling group were all lovely companions and everybody got along very well – A very comforting feeling! Overall the whole trip was very enjoyable. Good job Dynasty! 👍

Did a Mie/Aichi Japan private trip in early April. Thanks to Stephanie and her team, our needs and interests were met. Fine details like our food and accommodation preference from our previous Shizuoka trip in 2022 were noted. The clam digging experience in Aichi perfecture was definitely a unique birthday gift for my wife. Looking forward to our next trip.

If you are looking for a fully independent and custom travel package, you have come to the right agency. Please keep in mind that with a fully independent & custom package, there are no large groups of strangers to travel with the entire time, no cramped motor coaches that take you from city to city or country to country and no "its Tuesday, it must be Belgium" set itinerary. Our packages & itineraries are completely custom tailored, independent, and designed around you so that you travel on your own at your leisure.

Travel Packages

Prices for our packages are based on many components. Things like the length of your trip, number of travelers, number of cities and countries you want to visit, types of hotels you prefer, and a plethora of other items factor into your overall package cost. We do not aim to offer you the cheapest package option out there, but we are competitive and include a ton of value for the services we offer.

What people say about us

We wanted to drop you a note to thank you for all your help with our recent vacation to Italy. It was simply a phenomenal trip! You put together a package which was exactly what we asked for ? organized activities coupled with ample free time to explore on our own, and smaller quaint (yet elegant) accommodations.

Mr. T. Riegle, Edison

Our trip to Paris and Provence was even better than we had imagined. Once again we gave you short notice, but you came through for us with flying colors. Everything, transportation, hotel accommodations, day tours were excellent. This was our second trip with you planning all of the details ? truly amazing! I would not hesitate to recommend Destination Europe to anyone and we will never consider any other travel agent.

Thomas Wong

Rome, Italy

Your efficient planning enabled Chris and I to make the most of the few days we were in China and Paris. The small boutique hotels that you chose for us were perfectly located with a very delicious variety of breakfast selections at both. We were able to walk or conveniently take the metro (cleanest I've ever experienced) to wherever we wanted to go. In both China and Paris our hotel hosts were helpful, friendly and accommodating.

Joseph Weil

Berlin, German

I must say when I first booked an Italian vacation over the Internet without any references, I was a bit skeptical. But, after following your planned trip to Rome, Florence, and Venice we could not have been more pleased.

Mr. J. Phillips, Charlotte

Paris, France

Please excuse me for not responding sooner to your welcome home message. The trip was outstanding. The organization of tickets and vouchers was exact. We had no problems with any scheduling issues. The weather was a bonus, 70's every day.

Mrs. L. Koch, Hyannis

New York, USA

We had a wonderful time. ALL the accommodations were first rate and in wonderful locations which made getting around very easy. The rooms, beds and bathrooms were wonderful. My friends loved the Parador in Ronda as I expected. For ambience, we loved the small hotel Isabel la Real in Granada.

Soapy Smith

We had a great time. Everything went like clockwork. The hotels were perfect. Great rooms, service and food. The Frankfurt hotel was fantastic. To Germany we were upgraded to a suite on the 16th floor with a spectacular view of the river; On our return we were upgraded to a large stylish apartment

Eduardo de Valfierno

We arrived safely home from our wonderful 30th Anniversary trip to London, Paris, and Amsterdam, tired and full of lots of great memories. London ? Flight on Delta was good. Flights were on time and the layover in Detroit wasn't too bad. It was pretty much a ?no frills' flight, so no movies, or real meals were provided.

Singapore’s Dynasty Travel redefines specialisation in luxury market

dynasty travel tours

Dynasty Travel, following its acquisition by Japan-based Travel Curators earlier this year, will move away from mass market tours with cookie-cutter itineraries and serve mass affluent travellers instead.

In an exclusive interview with TTG Asia , Teo Tianyi, founder of Travel Curators, said his ambition was to turn Dynasty Travel into the “Asian equivalent of Scott Dunn or Abercrombie & Kent”, with specialisation in small group tours.

Teo elaborated: “There is an opportunity for us to provide such luxury travel services to Asian clients, as (American and European travellers’ needs and preferences) differ from us Asians. The mass affluent and luxury segments (here) are underserved.”

When asked to differentiate between luxury and mass affluent traveller segments, Teo said the first often request bespoke services, fly first class or by private jet, and is generally made up of CEOs and high-net-worth individuals.

On the other hand, mass affluent travellers are those with substantial savings, fly premium economy or business class, and do not mind spending a little more on a special experience. They also are happy to travel with like-minded strangers.

Teo’s plan is to develop more intimate tours that boast unique experiences and take a maximum of 16 people, such as the company’s 19-day chartered expedition to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands in November 2023.

Calling the ship charter a “sizeable investment”, Teo said: “Anyone can book a cruise with any operator sailing to Antarctica, but on this chartered ship we (have the flexibility) to bring on board our own entertainment, or even Michelin-star sushi chefs.”

With Dynasty Travel’s new business focus, the agency will skip the upcoming NATAS Travel Fair , recognised as Singapore’s main travel event for consumer outbound bookings.

There are also plans to further digitise Dynasty Travel’s processes, which will contribute to sustainability. For example, rather than printing out brochures, itineraries can be sent to clients through an app and be easily updated.

For Teo, a Singaporean who lives and works in both Japan and Singapore and whose professional specialisation lies in private equity and investment, Dynasty Travel is his first travel agency investment. He acquired the agency in full during the pandemic when Delta infections were rampant.

“I had people questioning my intentions and thought I was crazy to buy. I felt it was a worthy investment because it’s a brand name that Singaporeans are familiar with, and is worth preserving,” he recalled.

“But there was a need to make it more contemporary, to ensure it remains relevant to older Singaporeans as well as attract younger ones. That is why we went through a rebranding exercise, introduced a new and updated logo, and removed Chinese characters on the logo to appeal to non-Chinese,” he continued.

With Dynasty Travel’s pre-existing business events department still active, Teo maintains interest in working with companies “that can invest more in their incentives or management retreats” to develop memorable experiences, as opposed to fighting for contracts with the cheapest quotation.

“I want to educate all of our clients by making sure they take away something beyond having a good time, and gain knowledge, insights, and perspectives that can broaden their horizons (while travelling),” he remarked.

For example, clients can visit a melon farm in Japan to learn why the farmer started the trade, what methods are used to perfect cultivation, and taste some of the pricey melons that Japan is known for. Teo said such travel experiences are engaging and meaningful, and support artisans in Japan that do not have successors.

New owner transforming Dynasty Travel into travel tech company, planning luxe experiences

dynasty travel tours

SINGAPORE - Dynasty Travel, a brand-name agency established in 1978, is transforming into a travel technology company for the post-pandemic landscape.

It was acquired late last year in an eight-figure deal by Travel Curators, a Singapore-headquartered travel technology company that began as a mobile app targeted at affluent travellers seeking bespoke travel services in Japan.

The global pandemic is an opportune moment to digitalise Dynasty Travel, after its 100 per cent acquisition from JTB Asia Pacific, a subsidiary of Japan's largest travel company JTB Corporation, said Mr Teo Tianyi, founder of Travel Curators.

"With leisure and business travel severely disrupted by the ongoing pandemic, we see a unique opportunity to lead the digitalisation of the travel agency industry, and provide greater value-added services for global clients seeking safe and hassle-free ways to explore and learn more about our planet," said the Singaporean private equity investor, who was based in Tokyo for a decade.

The niche experiences in Japan crafted by Travel Curators include hunting ezo-bafun sea urchins with local fishermen on Rishiri Island in Hokkaido, while learning about how climate change is affecting the population of these ocean delicacies.

Travellers can also harvest organic mazuma wasabi with an artisanal grower who picks off pests by hand daily.

Travel Curators, a start-up founded in 2016, works closely with local communities in Japan and other countries to design one-of-a-kind experiences that also create a positive impact on the people, economy and environment of each place.

It is helping to preserve culture by, for instance, producing short films on best-in-class Japanese artisans, many of whom are retiring without successors. These include a Noh mask carver in Kyoto and an incense maker in Osaka.

Though it has stayed low profile, its refreshing approach to bespoke travel and efforts to give back have been highlighted by international media, including National Geographic and Esquire.

Bloomberg reported in 2018 that it has "an impressive Rolodex with the country's elite, facilitating everything from brown bear safaris in Hokkaido to private dinners with the cast of a live-action manga movie".

dynasty travel tours

In the same spirit, Dynasty Travel, one of the largest travel agencies in Singapore, will design bespoke adventures aligned with the environmental and social responsibility practices of its new owner - beginning with chartered luxury cruises to exotic places such as Antarctica and the Galapagos this year, Mr Teo said.

Journeys to Indonesian rainforests to learn more about wildlife protection and climate change are also being planned.

In line with the new ethos, the premises of Dynasty Travel in New Bridge Road will be redesigned for clients to enjoy a concierge-style customer experience that differs from the previous counter-style format.

The office floors will also be revamped to reflect the company's new technology-driven business approach, with an array of spaces such as quiet spots for focused work and relaxing common areas for informal discussions.

Meanwhile, the company is also recruiting new talent to strengthen its management team.

The rebranded Dynasty Travel is expected to amplify its presence in Asia under the ownership of Travel Curators, which also supplies its proprietary Tora-Q trip planning and management technology to leading travel agencies around the world.

In a strategic partnership, Travel Curators is also providing its Tora-Q system to JTB Asia Pacific to transform its business model and create new digital touchpoints for clients.

JTB Asia Pacific will also leverage Travel Curators' technology and trip curation expertise to design unique travel experiences around the world for a global clientele.

More transformation lies ahead. Mr Teo said: "As worldwide travel demand rebounds in the coming years, our acquisition of Dynasty Travel will put us in a prime position to rapidly grow our business and user base."

Leading luxury travel company Dynasty Travel is celebrating its 45th anniversary and to mark this milestone, the company has announced a 19-day expedition to Antarctica, the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) and South Georgia. The expedition will take place on board the brand-new Ocean Albatros, operated by Albatros Expeditions.

In a press release, Dynasty Travel said that the ship will take no more than 150 clients. Guests can expect gastronomical delights on board, prepared using locally sourced seafood by a renowned chef specially flown in from Japan. The company will also collaborate with luxury brands to create special gifts that clients can use during and after the trip.

The expedition will begin on Nov 5. Guests will start the ocean-going part of their journey in Ushuaia, Argentina. The ship will travel through the mighty Drake Passage before making landfall at the South Shetland Islands. The journey then continues to the Antarctica peninsula, followed by South Georgia and the Falkland Islands (Malvinas). Guests will return to Ushuaia 19 days later.

On board the Ocean Albatros, guests will find spacious cabins and a luxurious interior design incorporating wooden fittings, a pastel colour palette and colourful Scandi accessories. Complementing the usual buffet restaurant is a new sushi restaurant built on Dynasty Travel’s request, with an open sushi counter.

Bespoke Romanov Dynasty Tour

Bespoke Romanov Dynasty Tour

Tour introduction.

The list of Romanov sites in Russia is endless but the standout highlight has to be St. Petersburg. Shaped by rulers who can boast the suffix ‘the Great’, built by Peter and decorated by Catherine. Palaces, churches and gardens boast the power and grandeur of the royal family as well as providing a window into the artistic and architectural styles through the ages, it truly is the city of the Romanovs. There is plenty more to see though, including Moscow the modern day capital, which was the original seat of royal power before St Petersburg, and there is also the chance to join the world famous Trans-Siberian railway. Trundle your way through the wild countryside of the Urals and Siberia to Yekaterinburg the site of the dynasty’s gruesome ending. Exploring the Romanov legacy on a tailor-made basis allows you to shape your itinerary around a particular place, event or individual that has captured your imagination.

Our Tailor-made Tours Our tailor-made tours aim to offer a high quality experience that suits you. Visit historic and cultural sites of your choice in as much luxury as you desire, and we’ll pay impeccable attention to detail at every step of the way. Day 2 – Gain a feel for this magnificent city, once home to the Tsars and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, during a guided tour of the major sites such as Peter’s Cabin, the Peter and Paul Fortress and Yusupov Palace. Spend the afternoon marvelling at the wonders contained within the vast, world-famous, Hermitage Museum. The Hermitage is one of the oldest and largest museums in the world containing an incredible collection of art, treasure and antiquities from around the globe. One of the buildings that houses the collection is the Winter Palace, home to the royal family from 1732 until its demise in 1917.

Day 3 – St Petersburg to Moscow – Take the short journey out of the city to the village of Pushkin for a visit to the Tsars’ summer residence, Catherine Palace. The palace is one of the finest examples of Rococo architecture to be found and is home to the famous Amber Room, a large chamber decorated with amber panels with gold leaf and mirrors. In the afternoon board your train to Moscow.

Day 4 – Moscow – enjoy a sightseeing tour of the Russian capital, taking in all of its famous landmarks such as Red Square and the Kremlin, the royal Residence in Moscow and a constant site of Russian power. Day 5 - Moscow & Trans-Siberian Railway – Visit the palace of the Romanov Boyars where the Romanovs lived during their rise through the ranks of the Moscow elite until Mikhail Romanov was elected Tsar in 1613. At Kolomenskoe, just outside of the city, is the summer residence and favourite Moscow location for the early Romanov Tsars. In the afternoon board the Trans-Siberian railway for the trip to the Yekaterinburg.

Day 6 - Trans-Siberian Railway – Spend the day on this famous train, travelling gracefully through the vast and wild Russian countryside, taking in the imposing Ural Mountains and unforgiving but equally stunning landscape of Siberia. Late arrival in Yekaterinburg.

The site is now marked by the beautiful Church on Blood. You can also visit the Monastic complex at Ganina where the Tsar and his family were hastily buried. At the Mineral Railway station you can stand on the Europe/ Asia border.

Day 8 – Internal flight to Moscow. Spend a further couple of days in Moscow or return home.

Kathy Griffin’s voice in comedy won’t be silenced by Trump trauma, ageism or destroyed vocal cords

  • Copy Link URL Copied!

Kathy Griffin has her voice back.

Recently, a new implant in her left vocal cord has fixed the squeaky whisper marring her speech for four years.

“It’s a freaking miracle,” Griffin says.

Her original voice is back in a broader sense, too.

“Honey, it’s been a rough few years,” the Grammy-winning comic, actor, producer, best-selling author and activist elaborates, “the Trump thing, the cancer, the divorce.”

The 2017 “Trump thing” (holding a severed Trump mask covered in ketchup) included being investigated by the government, placement on the national No Fly list and being unable to travel for performances. Griffin’s mother passed in March 2020, and a pill addiction led to Griffin’s suicide attempt that June.

After six years away from the stage, Griffin now returns with resilient, new material for her extended “My Life on the PTSD-List” tour, which reaches the Wiltern Theatre on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The tour name references her Emmy-winning TV series as well as ongoing challenges like staying sober, ignoring death threats, moving past lost CNN deals and committing to therapy for complex PTSD.

Griffin’s comedy remains story-oriented. Her shows are filled with repeat diehards and locally tailored, including personal roasts of audiences in each city. She hasn’t had an opener in 25 years, and Griffin still stays onstage for two-plus hours.

Some of her stories take a more serious tone these days. For example, “a story about how I very seriously tried to take my life, wrote a note, the whole thing, and ended up 5150 psych hold at Cedars.”

Yet for Griffin, the Guinness World Record holder for most comedy specials, celebrity sells. “And bookend that sh– with a funny story about going to Paris [Hilton’s] house,” she says. “A funny story about going to Mexico with Sia, where everything went wrong.”

At her home in Malibu, Calif., a week after popping up as a surprise guest on an already jaw-dropping “Barbies” lineup at local L.A. theater Dynasty Typewriter at the Hayworth alongside Rosie O’Donnell, Aparna Nancherla, and Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, a post-recovery Griffin recommends yelling at the TV while watching politics, knowing one’s value and learning how to fight long-term in the face of inequality.

What did the process of having your voice repaired entail, and how has the recovery process been?

I was getting shots every six months where I had to go under general [anesthesia] and they would shoot in a collagen-like substance, which would fatten my left vocal cord. My right one was moving, and my left one was dead. Once again, my mortal enemies — middle-aged white heterosexual men — those f— let me go around, show business with a voice [squeaks] like this!

I could cry thinking about it. It was so awful for almost four years. Finally the singer Sia, she’s one of my besties, she’s like, “Oh, no no no. There is a female surgeon whose name is Dr. Anca Barbu.” Sia’s singing coach is a woman named Amy Chapman. And Amy works for Barbu. I know I’m being a bitter b—, but I just find it very hard to believe that “Oh, well this old white guy cured this celebrity. And this one made it so Ozzy [Osbourne] can sing again. And this one brought this singer back to life. And blah, blah, blah.” I could have gotten this the day after my cancer surgery!

When they took out half of my left lung, they injured me so severely that they killed my left vocal cord for life. I currently still have an aperture, which means a tear above my cords. You can still see the scar. I just had the surgery five weeks ago and then I had to be on two weeks vocal rest, which was living hell. But it has been such a game changer. It’s a mood lifter. Now I like to yell at the TV screen. Last night during that very emotional Harris/Walz rally, I got to yell at the screen like other good solid Democrats.

My house isn’t on the beach, but it’s a water view. And I find that very comforting. When I was coming back from the lung-cancer surgery or this one where I had to be quiet, just looking at the water was big time. Never in my born days did I think that this little lady from Forest Park, Ill. would be able to live in Malibu, look at the ocean and run in fear from Mel Gibson.

Josh Johnson put out over 22 hours of stand-up material in a year, and somehow is still hungry to do more

Your material on this “My Life o n t he PTSD - List” tour hadn’t been political. Did that change after the Trump assassination attempt and Vice President Kamala Harris entered the presidential race?

I don’t mention Trump in the new show. It’s not that I am afraid to, honestly. I did a whole tour about that incident, and I made a documentary called “Kathy Griffin: A Hell of a Story.” You can see it free on Amazon because no one, I mean no one, would distribute it because I’m a toxic terrorist who’s on the No Fly list.

But I really, really hope to get a special with this material. I think it’s ageism and sexism. These dudes getting specials, they don’t know what it’s like to play Carnegie. I don’t mean to sound like a braggart, but I think I should have a special. It’s kind of appalling that there are still so many male heterosexual executives that are my age or older that are secret Trumpers, and they own everything. What people don’t know, and what I’m not afraid to say even though it gets me in trouble, is that five old white guys, most of whom are Trumpers, control every bit of media we consume.

I don’t think people understand that nothing’s changed. It’s still the boys club, especially when it comes to stand-up. I’m just shocked, because that’s the conversation Joan Rivers and I used to have right up until she passed away. She said she had that conversation with Phyllis Diller, and I’m sure Phyllis had it with Totie Fields, and her with Moms Mabley. It’s still like that.

Woman holding her dog on a set of indoor steps

Yet the benefit of your own theater tour means your demographics and audiences can still come directly to you. You have the opportunity to be much more intimate and revealing with them and to go anywhere, talk about anything with them. There’s no machinery or anyone else in the way.

At 63, if I had to go back and play clubs, I would retire. Yeah, it’s heaven. And I purposely do a long show because I’m so used to doing specials. I’ve done 21 specials, which certainly no guy has, living or dead of any level, not even close. And I have a Grammy for best comedy special. I’m one of only four women to this day in the entire history of the Grammys. I keep thinking they’re going to eventually have to get a little bit better. But once you’re 63, it’s a whole other level. The ageism almost takes the place of the sexism. So yes, women are for sure getting more opportunities, but how many women can you name over 60 that really are at this level? Four?

I have asked countless of my straight bro friends, “Okay, it’s a bro weekend. You and your bros want to go see a comedy show, but you don’t want to go to a club. You want to see somebody with a name. Would it ever occur to you, you and your bro friend, to go see me, Chelsea, Sarah Silverman, Wanda?” And every single one of them said, “To be honest, Kath, no. We want to see Chappelle, Rock, Mulaney.” It’s like, “Oh, it’s didn’t even occur to me to think of a girl.” I don’t know how to fight that. So I keep saying it, even though my agents and managers hate when I say that.

How have you gone about fostering those kind of connections and opportunities that work towards creating that kind of change?

When I was blacklisted, I was like, “Okay, how do you make new friends when you’re 57?” And then I thought about the salons I used to go. I was trained by two women on how to have them: Sue Mengers, the first female, really big power agent, and my dear friend Gloria Vanderbilt.

Mengers said you have to cast them. So I put the introvert next to the extrovert. I separate couples. I have somebody like Meredith Lynch, who’s just starting stand-up, but also is an expert on private equity. Some folks stuck by me like the beautiful Aubrey Plaza, who brought me a casserole two days after the Trump thing. Not everybody dumped me, but it was a lot. These salons became just a way for me to talk to people, and listen to people. Something magical happens when you put your phones away and you just share a meal. We joke around a lot, but we talk about substantial sh—.

There’s something about that environment. People get vulnerable. They talk about stuff that they wouldn’t talk about if it was a cocktail party with 30 people milling around. I used to do two a year, and now I’m trying to do one a month. The first one I had was for a guest of honor named Sidney Poitier. I had two for Dylan Mulvaney. I also had two for E. Jean Carroll, because everybody wants to meet Jean. I tend to try to pick a guest of honor that’s typically a woman who’s been through the fire in some way, shape or form.

Woman standing in her home wearing pink jumpsuit

The new tour and new material represents a point of culmination and healing for you, and a new beginning both professionally and in your personal life. Are there new goals that you’ve set for yourself once the tour is over?

When the tour’s over, I’m back on the breadline, honey. I don’t have one goddamn offer. I’m a grinder. It’s been like that my whole life. I’ve never been a turner-downer. I f— say yes to the opening of an envelope.

But the truth of the matter is, I’ve been doing this for so long, I get a lot of repeat business. I’m very lucky in that way, because my fans know I’m going to give them new s— every time. Just in these first 40 cities, I’ve done shows that are two hours and 30, 40 minutes.

I’m not shortchanging those tickets. Those tickets aren’t cheap. I’m fearful people would think that health-wise, I’m not up to it anymore. And that’s not the case, especially since the implant. So I am still there.

I do my shows for the people that buy the tickets. And so far, literally every show, I’ve gotten a standing ovation, by the way. I know a lot of it is because of the cancer, but I don’t care. I’ll take it!
