Extreme announce November and December 2023 UK tour

With special guests Living Colour

Boston rock icons Extreme have announced a headline UK tour for November and December 2023.

The band’s first UK trek in almost exactly six years is called the Thicker Than Blood Tour and it takes in six dates with special guests Living Colour.

Extreme open the tour at Newcastle O2 City Hall on Monday 27th November, and they visit Glasgow, Manchester, Wolverhampton and Bristol before culminating at London O2 Forum Kentish Town on Monday 4th December.

Tickets go on sale from Planet Rock Tickets at 9am on Friday 26th May.

Following the UK dates, Extreme will play mainland Europe dates in France, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and Italy in the run-up to Christmas.

The European tour dates follow the Friday 9th June release of Extreme’s first album in 15 years, ‘Six’ , which features the Planet Rock playlisted anthems ‘Rise’ and ‘Banshee.’

Commenting on ‘Six’, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt says he was inspired by the late-great Eddie Van Halen during the recording process.

“When Eddie Van Halen passed, it really hit me,” Nuno said. “I’m not going to be the one who will take the throne, but I felt some responsibility to keep guitar playing alive. So, you hear a lot of fire on the record.”

Gary Cherone adds: “With Extreme, there’s always a lot of passion and a little piss and vinegar. We’re not in competition with anybody else, but we strive to outdo ourselves.

“There are some moments on this album where we did. We’ve managed to stay together after all these years. We feel like we have something to prove when we get on stage or in the studio. Because of that, I believe some of these songs are among the best we’ve written.”

Extreme are Gary Cherone (vocals), Nuno Bettencourt (guitar), Pat Badger (bass), and Kevin Figueiredo (drums).

The 11 most expensive songs of all time:, 14 - duane allman’s 1957 gibson les paul.

The Goldtop 1957 Gibson Les Paul guitar that the late-great Duane Allman used to record 'Layla' alongside Eric Clapton, sold for $1.25 million (ÂŁ1.03 million) in August 2019. First purchased by Allman in early 1969, it's the fabled guitar on which he learned and perfected his slide style. It was his primary instrument on the first two Allman Brothers albums, and for the 'Layla' album by Derek & The Dominos.

13 - Eric Clapton's The Fool guitar

Eric Clapton's iconic guitar The Fool sold for a whopping $1.27 million at Julien's Auctions on Thursday 16th November as part of their three-day music auction event 'Played, Worn and Torn: Rock N' Roll Iconic Guitars and Memorabilia' at the Hard Rock Café in Nashville. The 1964 Gibson Custom-Painted Psychedelic Guitar was played on the majority of Cream's recordings in the 1960s. When the band broke up, Clapton gave it to George Harrison who passed it to Jackie Lomax. In the 70s and 80s it was owned and stage played by Todd Rundgren, who called it "Sunny" after Cream's 'Sunshine of Your Love,' until he sold it at auction to its previous owner in 2000. The guitar was acquired by The Jim Irsay Collection in Indianapolis, and a portion of proceeds went to the Kicking The Stigma charity.

12 - David Gilmour’s 1954 Fender Stratocaster

David Gilmour's 1954 White Fender Stratocaster #0001 used on Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in the Wall (Parts 2 and 3)' sold for $1,815,000 (£1,493,000) on an estimate of $100,000-150,000 at the David Gilmour Guitar Collection auction at Christie's in New York in June 2019. For a few fleeting hours it was the most expensive Fender ever until another famous David Gilmour guitar kicked it out of the park

11 – Jerry Garcia‘s Wolf Guitar

Jerry Garcia's famous Wolf Guitar sold at auction for $1.9 million (ÂŁ1.57 million) in June 2017 in New York. Its buyer was Brian Halligan, Chief Executive of software company HubSpot and a keen Grateful Dead aficionado. Proceeds from the sale of the Wolf guitar went to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a charity specialising in civil rights and public interest litigation. Customized by master luthier Doug Irwin, and labelled "D. Irwin 001", Wolf was delivered to Jerry Garcia 50 years ago and first appeared in public during a 1973 New York City performance the Grateful Dead gave for the Hell's Angels.

10 - Kurt Cobain's Skystang I guitar

Kurt Cobain's Skystang I guitar he played at his final Nirvana show before his death in 1994 sold for $1,587,500 (£1,271,730) at auction in Nashville in November 2023. Cobain first played his electric Fender Skystang I guitar on 18th October 1993 at the Arizona State Fair Veteran's Memorial Coliseum during the In Utero tour, and he performed with it at his final concert on 1st March 1994 at Terminal 1 in Munich. The guitar bought by Mitsuru Sato who bid via the phone at the Julien's Auctions' sale held at Hard Rock Café, Nashville.

9 – Peter Green’s Greeny

Fleetwood Mac legend Peter Green bought 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard for sixty guineas after being asked to join John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in the mid-60s. He played it on Fleetwood Mac classics including 'The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)' and 'Albatross' before selling it to fellow guitar virtuoso Gary Moore in 1970. Moore played it throughout his solo career and time with Thin Lizzy, however he was forced to sell it in 2006 due to financial difficulties. Guitar dealer Phil Winfield bought it for somewhere between $750,000 and $1.2 million before selling it for $2 million (ÂŁ1.65 million) to a private collector. Metallica's Kirk Hammett bought Greeny in 2014 for less than $2 million and he still performs with it to this day.

8 – Jimi Hendrix’s 1968 Fender Stratocaster

The white 1968 Fender Stratocaster that Jimi Hendrix famously played at Woodstock in 1969 was purchased by late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen for a cool $2 million (ÂŁ1.65 million) in 2000. Keen guitarist and collector Allen, who passed away in 2018, donated the fabled instrument to the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle where it's still on display today.

7 – John Lennon’s Gibson J-160E acoustic-electric guitar

John Lennon's long-lost acoustic Gibson J-160E acoustic-electric guitar, which he used on The Beatles' 'Please Please Me' and 'With the Beatles' albums, fetched $2,410,000 (ÂŁ1,992,000) at auction in November 2015. The guitar had been owned since 1969 by a man called John McCaw who purchased it from a friend called Tommy Pressley who in turn, two years earlier, had bought it for just $175. McCaw was completely unaware it originally belonged to John Lennon until he stumbled across a photograph of The Beatle performing with it in a 2012 copy of Guitar Aficionado magazine. Realising its importance (and worth), McCaw put it up for auction.

6 - Reach Out to Asia Fender Stratocaster

The Reach out to Asia Fender Stratocaster became the most expensive guitar ever in 2005 when it fetched $2,700,000 (ÂŁ2,232,000) under the hammer in Qatar. Proceeds went to the charity Reach Out to Asia, which was set up to help victims of the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004. The guitar was signed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Brian May, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Pete Townsend, Mark Knopfler, Ray Davies, Liam Gallagher, Ronnie Wood, Tony Iommi, Angus and Malcolm Young, Paul McCartney, Sting, Ritchie Blackmore, Def Leppard and Bryan Adams.

5 - John Lennon's 'Help!' guitar

A Framus 12-string Hootenanny acoustic guitar was used by John Lennon on songs such as 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away', and for the album 'Help!' sold for $2.9 million (ÂŁ2.3 million) under the hammer at Julien's Auctions in New York in May 2024. Believed to be lost for 50 years, it's also the most expensive Beatles instrument ever sold.

4 - Eddie Van Halen's 'Hot For Teacher' Kramer

Eddie Van Halen's custom-made Kramer electric guitar that he played in Van Halen's seminal 'Hot for Teacher' sold for a massive $3,932,000 (ÂŁ3,167,343) under the hammer in April 2023. One of the most iconic guitars of the MTV era, the stage used and filmed guitar was custom made by Paul Unkert of Kramer Guitars for Eddie Van Halen. The $3,932,000 it fetched at auction at Sotheby's in New York made it the fourth most expensive guitar ever sold.

3 – David Gilmour’s Black Strat

David Gilmour's fabled guitar, The Black Strat, set the world record for the World's Most Expensive Guitar in June 2019 when it fetched $3,975,000 (ÂŁ3,285,000) at Christie's in New York as part of the David Gilmour Guitar Collection auction. The fabled guitar was famously played on the 'Comfortably Numb' solo and was integral to the recording of the Pink Floyd albums 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' (1973), 'Wish You Were Here' (1975), 'Animals' (1977) and 'The Wall' (1979), together with Gilmour's solo albums. Just like all the other guitars in the auction, proceeds from sales of The Black Strat went directly to the climate change charity ClientEarth. The Black Strat was the world's most expensive guitar for almost exactly 12 months.

2 – Kurt Cobain’s Fender Mustang Guitar

Kurt Cobain's famous Fender Mustang guitar he played in Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' video in 1991 became the second most expensive guitar ever sold under the hammer in May 2022. The 1969 Fender Mustang Competition Lake Placid Blue Finish Electric Guitar sold for a whopping $4.5 million (ÂŁ3.7 million) at Julien's Auctions in New York as part of their Music Icons auction. The left-handed guitar had an estimate of $600,000 to $800,000. Billionaire Jim Irsay snapped up the Fender Mustang guitar having previously bought David Gilmour's fabled Black Strat guitar for a then world-record $3,975,000 (ÂŁ3.285 million) in 2019.

1 - Kurt Cobain’s MTV Unplugged Guitar

One year on from the world-record sale of David Gilmour's Black Strat, Kurt Cobain's MTV Unplugged guitar sold for a massive $6,010,000 (£4,960,000) at auction in June 2020 and became the World's Most Expensive Guitar in the process. The late-great Nirvana frontman played the 1959 Martin D-18E acoustic-electric guitar for the band's MTV Unplugged set at Sony Music Studios in New York City on 18th November 1993 – just five months before his untimely death aged 27. Alongside being the most expensive guitar, it set four further world records - World's Most Expensive Acoustic Guitar, World's Most Expensive Martin Guitar, World's Most Expensive Piece of Rock Memorabilia and World's Most Expensive Nirvana Memorabilia. The buyer of Kurt Cobain's guitar was Peter Freedman, Founder of RØDE Microphones.

EXTREME 's new album, "Six" , is due out June 9 via earMUSIC .

The band — Gary Cherone (vocals), Nuno Bettencourt , Pat Badger (bass) and Kevin Figueiredo (drums) — will bring "Six" 's music to audiences across the globe on the "Thicker Than Blood" tour. The trek will see the band visit North America from August 2 to August 29 and Australia from September 6 to September 13, where they will be joined by special guests LIVING COLOUR . EXTREME will also continue to bring the "Thicker Than Blood" tour to audiences in Japan from September 17 to September 26.

On "Six" , EXTREME swings between unapologetic fits of fret-burning hard rock and intimately introspective balladry. For the recording of the Bettencourt -produced 12-track album, the members buckled down at his home studio in Los Angeles to channel the electrifying eclecticism that defined their seminal output with a 21st century twist.

This dynamic affirms the iconic Boston quartet as one of rock's most unpredictable, undeniable, and unbreakable groups whose songs course through the very fabric of popular culture. They're the rare band whose music has appeared in an actual cult series a la "Bill & Ted" as well as the Netflix juggernaut "Stranger Things" . They've sold 10 million records, topped the Billboard Hot 100, packed major venues on multiple continents, memorably performed at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert in London, and regularly average over five million monthly listeners on Spotify . However, their dynamic approach hits harder than ever on "Six" .

Extreme are a metal band hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, U.S, who formed in 1985. They built a devoted fan following with their raucous mix of glam metal and funk rock, and then went stratospheric in the early 90’s, topping the Billboard charts with their power ballad “More Than Words”.

You know you’ve made it when you create a clichĂ©, and Boston’s very own Extreme are perfect examples of this. The band had their fans back in the day, with some small radio hits and a decent selling debut album. However, might have remained nothing more than a surprisingly awesome curio had they not inadvertently perfected the longstanding tradition of hard rock bands releasing a preposterous, over the top acoustic ballad that can still get you singing along no matter what the occasion might be. Yes, they are partially responsible for “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”, “November Rain”, and “To Be With You”, and let’s be honest, is the world not a brighter place with them in it?

Of course it is, and in a spectacular display of good things coming from insane pettiness, the band began with three different hard rock groups arguing about sharing a dressing room. Singer Gary Cherone and drummer Paul Geary both played in The Dream, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt was playing in a group called Sinful and bassist Pat Badger (not a stage name) played in “In The Pink”. These four men were the first four people in all three groups to get over themselves and struck up a friendship with each other, they started jamming together soon afterwards and decided to form a new group together.

Since Geary and Cherone both were late of the band The Dream, that obviously made the two men “Ex-Dream”, and in a stunning display of punning ability (pundamentalism? Sorry.), they named their new group Extreme as a result. The new group started writing, rehearsing and gigging soon after that, building a strong enough following around the Boston rock scene to with the “Outstanding Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Act” at the Boston Music Awards two years running before they’d even released their first album or signed to a record label. Their label deal would come in 1988 when they signed to A&M Records, and their self-titled debut album was released one year later, in1989.

All things considered it was an ideal first release, big enough to make a name for themselves, strong selling enough to secure a second album, but not so big that they had nowhere else to go but down. In hindsight, no-one at all could have predicted what happened next. Come August 1990, their second album, the preposterously titled “Extreme II: Pornograffiti” was released. Like their first effort, it sold modestly but unlike their second effort, the band had an ace up their sleeve. At first the album’s third single, “More Than Words” charted at number 81. However, then it started to climb, and climb and climb the charts until the band realized they had a bona-fide smash hit on their hands, hitting number one in June 1991.

In the dying days of hair metal, Extreme were the biggest deal of them all. They even had a second top five hit with the other acoustic ballad on their second album “Hole Hearted”, and ever since then they might not have ever been able to emulate that kind of success but then again, who has? What other rock band has had that kind of chart success ever since for that matter? The band split in 1996 but got back together in 2004, and their reunion shows have been a must see for any fan of 80’s metal. Yes it’s silly, yes it’s cheesy and yes, there are probably more tasteful ways of spending your time and money but the fact remains that no-one can deny Extreme’s charms, no matter how cool you might be. And twenty years after their heyday, they still come highly recommended.

Live reviews

Never thought I'd be able to see them live, and especially not so close to home! Still going strong in 2014 A.D., playing their repetoire as if it was still 1993. Now many of you know "More Than Words", maybe not by name, but you'd definitely recognize it if it came on the radio. Off of their second album, Pornograffitti, the rest is chockful of driving guitar riffs, memorable solos, amazing vocals, and musicianship across the board. Truly a masterpiece. The band played the entire album front to back on their last tour, and I was astounded at how tight, controlled, and energetic these guys still are. Then at the end, as a little treat, they played some fan favorites to round out the night. Seeing the opening "He-Man Woman Hater" solo played note-for-note (and I mean note-for-note) live in front of you and the dual bass/guitar 'battle' of Pat Badger and Nuno Bettencourt during "Cupid's Dead" were just two of the many highlights during the night. Gary Cherone's definitely still got those vocals, hitting some astounding highs, and Kevin Figueiredo should not be left out of the equation: he's definitely got the chops to drive things home and then some, which I was extremely pleased to find. If you even slightly remember these guys and still find yourself rocking out to old Def Leppard, Boston, or even Dokken tracks, do NOT pass them up. You might not find them together much longer. Come back to Buffalo when you can guys! It was killer!

Going to an Extreme concert is an "EXTREMEly" immense experience. Not only are you going to be listening to Extreme, but you get to watch Nuno Bettencourt shred on the guitar. The man is an incredible musician - I wish I could play half as well as that guy.

The atmosphere is always very lively. The audience is always pumped up; they dance to the music, the jump around, they sing along with Gary Cherone, etc. The band themselves don't dress extravagantly, instead opting for casual clothing. The stage set-up, like the clothes they wear, is very minimal, so as to remove all distractions from the music.

The band is present on the stage, with nothing but their equipment and various lights above them to make them visible to the audience. Now for the music itself. Extreme is a metal band. As their name suggests, they are not afraid to experiment with various subgenres; funk, glam, hard rock, heavy metal, you name it.

When the band performs "Get the Funk Out," Bettencourt starts off with a really cool solo. When the rest of the band joins in, the crowd goes nuts and screams with excitement. Watching Nuno play those solos live is reason enough to want to go see these guys live in concert. It is definitely an experience that takes you back to a time when metal music was much more popular.

This concert was amazing. I was quite surprised and happy that such a HUGE crowd showed up to support the group. Nuno never fails to delight with his incredible guitar playing. He was definitely the star of the show!!! Gary's voice was decent tonight as well. He's a great front-man. I could do without the "When I First Kissed You" song. I've hated that since the first time I heard it. It kind of put us to sleep. That was the ONLY bad part of the show...take that one out guys...it sucks. If I wanted to see Frank Sinatra...well, I never would actually.

One other thing...I really hate that people are holding up their cell phones and recording the entire show. STOP AND ENJOY THE SHOW PEOPLE!!!! It makes it hard to see over you. Kind of sad that people are doing that.

The bottom line...Extreme is AWESOME and they are DEFINITELY worth seeing live. I would go see them again and again and again.

I got hooked on Extreme my senior year in college when I took Pornograffitti for a spin and they have been my favorite since taking over my fandom of VH. I have seen them multiple times over the years and recently saw them in February 2024 at Austin and Houston. They are on fire and clicking on all cylinders. Aging like fine wine! Never sounded better and thank God we got new music last year with an incredible masterpiece SIX. Please go see this band. They are the best band going now and Nuno is the heir to the throne left vacant by EVH and Nuno is a guitar Gawd! My hope is very soon come out with more new music to keep this run going!

The Band sounded amazing. The original 3 members, Gary,Nuno, and Pat were as tight as ever. The set list was so deep it was amazing that there were still like 3 songs I would have liked to hear. Crazy thing was I wanted them to do Queen's Hammer to fall, but got We are the champions so I can't really bitch there. Only thing else missing was if the boys would have done a couple of Van Halen III songs. Other then that AMAZING SHOW!! boys were dead on

Show muito bom! Nuno Bettencourt tocando muito! Vale a pena assistir... sĂł faltou tocar a Stop the World.

Gary Cherone cantando demais também, baixo como sempre e o novo batera impressionando. A participação especial do Richie Kotzen na abertura também foi animal.

Oasis international tour announcement ‘imminent’ after rock band sell out UK dates

Oasis are poised to announce another round of dates for their long-awaited reunion tour, this time for an international leg that will take in the US, Canada and Australia.

The Independent understands that the British rock band will reveal their plans in the coming days, having first announced the UK and Ireland leg in August.

All of their shows announced so far have sold out, including seven nights at Wembley Stadium in London, and another five at Manchester’s Heaton Park.

Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher will also be performing together at shows in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin.

Their reunion announcement landed right before the 30-year anniversary of Definitely Maybe , the band’s record-breaking debut that includes hits “Supersonic”, “Shakermaker” and “Live Forever”.

Next year, meanwhile, will mark the 30th anniversary of their second album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, one of the biggest-selling LPs by a British act of all time.

A statement from the band confirming the reunion said: “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”

On the brothers’ decision to reunite, a press release stated: “There has been no great revelatory moment that has ignited the reunion – just the gradual realisation that the time is right.”

Last month, Oasis definitively ruled out a return to Glastonbury Festival, amid rumours that they could headline in June before their tour kicks off.

“Despite media speculation, Oasis will not be playing Glastonbury 2025 or any other festivals next year,” they said in a statement.

“The only way to see the band perform will be on their Oasis Live ‘25 World Tour.”

They previously confirmed that their UK and Ireland shows would be the band’s exclusive European appearances.

Last weekend, Liam Gallagher issued a furious rebuke aimed at viewers who criticised his performance at Wembley, held as part of the entertainment for the Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Debois boxing match on Saturday 21 September.

Some viewers criticised Gallagher’s vocals during the show, goading him into a typically expletive-laden riposte on X/Twitter.

“To all those S***C***S who were crying about my ANGELIC TONES last night you ain’t real fans your just IMPOSTERS,” he wrote.

“And if you do have tickets you wanna get rid off I’ll gladly take them off your hands we don’t want the likes of you at our concerts nxt year any way LF***ING.”

The appearance at Wembley took place before a reported audience of 96,000 fans. Gallagher performed three Oasis hits: “Rock ‘N’ Roll Star”, “Cigarettes and Alcohol” and “Supersonic”.

“Whatever you think an Extreme album is after two or even three songs, it’s not,” says guitarist Nuno Bettencourt. “That goes for every record we’ve ever done. True Extreme fans know to ‘expect the unexpected.’ I feel like we need a good old-school rock album.  Six  is definitely modern, but you can put on headphones and go on a journey from top-to-bottom.
