John 5 and the Creatures Announce 2024 US Tour

The guitarist is embarking on his first solo tour since joining Mötley Crüe

John 5 and the Creatures have announced an early 2024 US tour.

The trek kicks off on January 26th in Santa Ana, California, and will see the guitarist playing shows in Los Angeles, New York City, and Houston, in addition to smaller markets. The outing will conclude on March 1st in San Diego.

Tickets go on sale Friday, August 11th at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster . Alternatively, and for sold-out shows, you can pick up tickets on StubHub — where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

“I am really looking forward to see all of you monsters on the road!” remarked John 5 in a press release.

It will mark John 5’s first solo tour since he joined Mötley Crüe as Mick Mars’ replacement. The guitarist is currently on the road with his new band, fulfilling dates on the Crüe’s US tour with Def Leppard and Alice Cooper .

The guitarist has been busy on the road with Mötley Crüe

Next year, guitar virtuoso John 5 is returning to the road with his band The Creatures. The run begins on January 26, 2024, at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California and wraps up on March 1 at The Observatory North Park in San Diego, California. Surprise guests for the rest of the run will be revealed soon.

“I am really looking forward to see all of you monsters on the road,” John 5 said.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 11 at 10am EST HERE . VIP Soundcheck Meet and Greet passes are available for all shows HERE . Fellow guitar god Jared James Nichols will be performing at the first two stops of the tour, which take place during NAMM weekend.

John 5 is currently on the road touring with Mötley Crüe. He signed on to be the band’s new guitarist last October following the retirement of founding member Mick Mars. Mars, 71,  retired from touring due to his “ongoing painful struggle” with Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.), a degenerative disease which affects the spine. John 5 was an obvious choice, given his history with the band. In 2019, John 5 co-wrote the songs “The Dirt,” “Crash and Burn,” and “Ride with the Devil” for the soundtrack to Netflix’s Mötley Crüe biopic  The Dirt .

John 5 is also very close with Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, whom he called his “best friend.” In a 2019 interview with  Outburn Magazine , John 5 said of Sixx,”We love each other. He has inspired me and taught me so much about life in general. He’s a phenomenal songwriter, lyricist, author, everything. He’s always telling me to listen to this audio book or see this movie. He has a happy marriage, a happy life, a successful band he started from the ground up. He’s one of the most inspiring people. He’ll text me all the time to read something or try something. It’s wonderful. He’s a phenomenal photographer as well. I remember him telling me that he’s going to take bass lessons again and get into playing with his fingers. He was so dedicated.”

John 5 recently  entered the studio  with Mötley Crüe and producer Bob Rock to begin recording new music.

Back in May, Fender announced a brand new John 5 signature guitar . The Limited Edition John 5 Ghost Telecaster® is the latest Fender artist signature guitar for John 5. Along with the ax, he revealed a special accessories collection that includes a white leather strap with red suede backing, a 10’ cable in arctic white with custom molded red ends and a six-pack of 351 celluloid picks featuring John 5’s logo and graphics.

John 5 Announces Summer U.S. Tour With Jared James Nichols + Black Satellite

Guitar virtuoso John 5 has just announced a summer headlining tour that will also feature Jared James Nichols and Black Satellite with Sarah Longfield jumping on the bill at three select stops.

With no tour dates on the books yet for this year with Rob Zombie , John 5's schedule is wide open, making it the opportune time to get back on the road after everyone was stuck at home last year amid a worldwide pandemic which shuttered the live events industry.

"I’ve always been excited to go on tour but this time it’s amplified by a million," said John 5 of the upcoming U.S. run.

"I can’t wait to see everybody’s faces and say hello to everybody coming out to the shows. I’m very excited to have Jared James Nichols, Black Satellite and Sarah Longfield joining us on this run. I’m sure we’re gonna have a great time," he added.

It's a real shredders delight regarding the top of the bill which finds blues rock ripper Jared James Nichols providing direct support to John 5. New York rock group Black Satellite will open most dates, which span from Aug. 10 through Sept. 3, and their second album,  Aftermath , is expected to be released later this year.

Excellent performance by John 5 and the Creatures last night! The group plowed through a little over an hour of jaw-dropping instrumental rock. Known for his work with David Lee Roth, Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, a John 5 solo show is where he pulls pit all of the stops. Ian Ross on bass and Logan Miles Nix behind the drum kit serve as a solid backing for the guitar virtuoso to confidently take flight.

You MUST see John 5 on a solo venture! Regardless of your musical preference, you are likely to be blown away. The rock fury delivered by this powerful trio is hard to match along with a visual experience that will leave you having nightmares.

I got my first guitar when I was 15 (40+ years ago) I enjoy classical, Spanish flamenco, rock & roll, funk, and very heavy metal... I've been to a gazillion concerts from giant stadiums to itty bitty pubs.

The funny thing is - I first discovered John5 on GUITAR HERO (play station.. I believe his songs were bonus ones)... and the 1st time I saw him live was at Slims in San Francisco. On the way home from the show my brain made the connection and I was elated.

Short story long: John5 is a musical genius. Right up there with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. And I Admire anyone who loves what they're doing and he is living it.

I had a fun time me and my friend, we were in the crowd in front of John 5 it was my very first heavy metal concert. I get to touch John 5 in the back while he was playing his guitar in the crowd and he said Hi to me and when he said that he saw my shirt that I brought before he came on stage. I cannot wait for him to come back to Boise when he get a chance thank you John 5. What can I say that hasn't already been said!, he's a phenomenal guitarist and showman, but he really gets the crowd going. The creatures are great also, tighter than a clams ass!! I've seen them twice now and I am hoping they can make it back soon! Had a great time!!

This guitar virtuoso did not disappoint. The guitar pyrotechnics lasted all evening, right down to a rousing version of Michael Jackson's Beat It towards the end.

If you appreciate varied and masterful shredding, there's likely no one better at it.

Who else can sell out without a singer? Who else can be the headliner with a guitar and some face paint? The show was beyond words. Anyone whos a fan of the guitar or rock music, or music at all should check him out. Great time.

The show was absolutely phenomenal, it was the first time I heard John 5 play. If you don't go see them play your definitely missing out. I can't wait for John 5 and The Creatures to come back to the Seattle area again.

John 5 officially joins Mötley Crüe

Long-rumoured, no big surprise, but the Crüe have snared themselves a top-tier guitarist to fill Mick Mars' shoes, after Mars stepped down from touring for health reasons

Mötley Crüe have officially announced John 5 as the touring replacement for co-founder and guitarist Mick Mars , who recently stepped down from the road for health reasons.

This news could be filed under ‘worst-kept secret of 2022’, with the rumour mill spinning overtime that John 5, Rob Zombie’s go-to master of the Telecaster , was going to hook up with the Crüe. He has long been a fan of the band, a close friend of Nikki Sixx, with whom he plays in the Los Angeles-based rock supergroup L.A. Rats, and has covered classic Crüe tracks live. 

He recently posted various pictures on his Instagram account from Mexico, where he was spending some downtime with the rest of the band celebrating drummer Tommy Lee’s birthday.

Mötley Crüe announced the news in a statement , but first saluted Mars’ bravery for battling the degenerative condition ankylosing spondylitis (AS) since he was a teenager.

“While change is never easy, we accept Mick's decision to retire from the band due to the challenges with his health,” said the band. “We have watched Mick manage his ankylosing spondylitis for decades and he has always managed it with utmost courage and grace.

“To say ‘enough is enough’ is the ultimate act of courage. Mick’s sound helped define Mötley Crüe from the minute he plugged in his guitar at our very first rehearsal together. The rest, as they say, is history. We’ll continue to honour his musical legacy.”

John 5 has chops to burn, but big shoes to fill. Mars was the unsung hero in a band whose appetite for the OTT and decadence often pulled focus from what he was doing on guitar.

“I’m honored to carry on Mick’s legacy and am looking forward to playing these songs,” John 5 wrote in the statement.

He will be pressed into action soon enough, as the next stage of Mötley Crüe’s tour with Def Leppard picks up in Mexico City on 18 February 2023, after which both bands will tour the Americas before hitting the UK in May. 

“We will carry out Mick's wish and continue to tour the world as planned in 2023,” the band continued. “No doubt will it take an absolutely outstanding musician to fill Mick's shoes so we are grateful that our good friend, John 5 has agreed to come on board and join us moving forward. We'll see all you Crüeheads out on the road!”

Legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen has announced a month-long fall 2021 U.S. tour. Support on the trek will come from former MARILYN MANSON and current ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5 .

Yngwie said in a statement: "America! It's time to get out of the house: I am back and coming to you with 'Parabellum' live! John 5 will be supporting."

Yngwie 's new album, "Parabellum" , will be released on July 23 via Music Theories Recordings / Mascot Label Group . Only four of the songs on the LP feature vocals. The album title is Latin, translating as "Prepare For War".

After working with some of the top hard singers of the past four decades, Yngwie now handles much of the lead vocals himself in his own band, backed by a lineup that includes keyboardist Nick Marino , bassist/vocalist Ralph Ciavolino and drummer Brian Wilson .

This past March, Malmsteen told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" about "Parabellum" : "I spent the whole year writing and recording [it]. I'm really excited about that. So that was what I concentrated on. Obviously, I wanted to play live, but we all know what happened there."

Elaborating on how he went about making a new studio album during the coronavirus pandemic, Yngwie said: "The thing is, the last few years — 10, 15 years or so, at least — I made records, but I made them, like, I go on the road and I go in the studio for maybe a week, and then I stop and I go on the road. Which is not a bad thing, mind you — that's actually a pretty good thing. But the last time I remember being this intense, I think, was 'Trilogy' . It's not only recording — it's writing too. It's the writing process, it's arrangement — it's everything. And I did go completely crazy in the direction… Everybody knows me for the classical thing, and it's very much that. We'll see how people react on it, but I listened to it just the other day after staying away from it a little bit. It's pretty extreme. I go faster than ever, there's more of everything…"

He continued: "I really enjoy it. I think it's a little different in that it's made in a different way, because I was extremely immersed in this as far as writing and recording and arranging for such a long time that I think it might be a little different end result. But everybody's gonna know who it is. There's not gonna be any weird left turns, like blues or stuff like that — which I love too, of course. But no, this is very much a Malmsteen -esque classical thing that people know but maybe a little extra — maybe a little more extreme than before. [ Laughs ]"

Yngwie , who will turn 58 on June 30, went on to say that he once again handled all the lead vocals on his new LP. "I'm singing more melodic stuff. There's a lot of harmonies and stuff like that," he explained. "There's a couple of ballads too — one ballad, actually. I'm happy with it. It's mostly instrumental — there's only four songs with vocals. But the album is… I don't know what to compare it to, but it's pretty extreme. It's double-bass drums and fast classical stuff all the way out. It's pretty nutty."

John 5 confirmed as new Mötley Crüe touring guitarist

The virtuoso will step in for co-founding Mötley Crüe member Mick Mars, who retired from touring earlier this week

John 5 has been officially confirmed as the new touring guitarist for Mötley Crüe, after it was announced the band’s original and co-founding guitarist Mick Mars would be retiring from live duties .

Mars’ retirement was confirmed yesterday (October 27), with the electric guitar hero stepping back from touring as a result of his ongoing struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis – a form of inflammatory arthritis he has battled since his late teens.

In a new statement posted to Mötley Crüe’s social media, the band heralded the Rob Zombie guitarist as an “absolutely outstanding musician” and announced he would be joining Vince Neil, Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx on the road ahead of their The World tour with Def Leppard.

It read, “While change is never easy, we accept Mick’s decision to retire from the band due to the challenges with his health. We have watched Mick manage his Ankylosing Spondylitis for decades and he has always managed it with utmost courage and grace.

“To say ‘enough is enough’ is the ultimate act of courage,” it continued. “Mick’s sound helped define Mötley Crüe from the minute he plugged in his guitar at our very first rehearsal together. The rest, as they say, is history. We’ll continue to honor his musical legacy.

“We will carry out Mick’s wish and continue to tour the world as planned in 2023. No doubt will it take an absolutely outstanding musician to fill Mick’s shoes so we are grateful that our good friend, John 5, has agreed to come on board and join us moving forward. We’ll see all of you Crüeheads out on the road!”

In response to the appointment, John 5 said, “I'm honored to carry on Mick's legacy and am looking forward to playing these songs.”

The news ends weeks of speculation surrounding the guitarist, with many spectators predicting John 5’s Mötley Crüe recruitment following his absence from Zombie’s Aftershock Festival appearance earlier this year.

At the same time, John 5 posted a picture of him posing with Crüe drummer Lee, with podcast host Jason Green further fueling the fire by asserting, “I am reporting it as fact: that John 5 will be joining Mötley Crüe for their upcoming foreign tour.”

Unbeknownst to the public, John 5 has inadvertently been prepping himself for his stint with Mötley Crüe during his recent solo shows, which have included a variety of Crüe covers such as Kickstart this Heart and Home Sweet Home .

The new-look Mötley Crüe lineup will hit the road next year for their co-headlining The World tour with Def Leppard, which is scheduled to kick off on February 18 in Mexico City. The six-month tour will see the two bands visit the UK, Europe and South America, before concluding on July 6 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Mötley Crüe have officially named Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 as a new member of their touring lineup. He replaces founding member Mick Mars, who retired from touring on Wednesday (October 26th) due to his ongoing battle with the degenerative disease Ankylosing Spondylitis.

John 5 had been rumored to take Mars’ place, even before the latter officially announced his retirement. In recent days, John 5 posted pictures of himself hanging out with Mötley Crüe members Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx, and Vince Neil during a celebration of Lee’s 60th birthday.

In the statement that Mars’ representative issued on Wednesday night, it was made clear that Mars would still “continue as a member of the band,” but would no longer play shows with them. However, the Crüe’s statement on Thursday (October 27th) reads as if it’s a complete departure.

Mötley Crüe’s full statement reads:

“While change is never easy, we accept Mick’s decision to retire from the band due to the challenges with his health. We have watched Mick manage his Ankylosing Spondylitis for decades and he has always managed it with utmost courage and grace. To say ‘enough is enough’ is the ultimate act of courage. For over 30 years, John 5 has been one of the most in-demand guitar players on the planet. As well as a guitarist for hire, 5 has shared the stage as axe-man for Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson and Rob Halford. He has also worked with an impressive array of names, from all walks of music, including KD Lang, Rod Stewart, David Lee Roth, Alice Cooper, Tina Guo and Steven Adler. He will next be seen as live guitarist for Mötley Crüe on their 2023 tour dates following the retirement of Mick Mars from touring. To call John 5 a shredder does not do him justice. There’s little he can’t put his hand to.

John 5 was born John William Lowery, on July 31st 1970, in Gross Pointe Michigan. His love of guitar began at age seven, when he began watching the Hee Haw series with his father. “ I watched the guitar playing and knew that was what I wanted to do. My friends wanted to be astronauts and such but all I wanted to do was play and play and play ”. Other notable influences included KISS and Jimi Hendrix.

John’s parents brought his first guitar for Christmas, and supported their son as he began playing in bars and clubs, on the pre-condition that he kept his grades up. This in turn led John to form his first band ‘Dirty Trixx’ who won a major battle of the bands contest when he was in sixth or seventh grade. In a subsequent high-school band ‘Vampirella’, John began to experiment with what is now the trademark make-up that he still wears today; “ we looked crazy on stage. I’d already started wearing eyeliner anyway but the stuff we wore on stage was crazy “.

I was surprised that this guy could sit down and play Glen Campbell and Roy Clark better than they do, and it blew my mind. And then he loves southern rock, the blues and country. It really blew us away.” Rickey Medlocke

At the age of 18, John made the decision to move to Los Angeles to pursue a session guitarist career. Despite being the victim of a robbery on his first night, John hunkered down in abandoned warehouses and went door to door to sell his skills. A lucky break saw John get his first band experience in LA with ‘Alligator Soup’. Stepping in when the singer was pulled from stage following a bizarre accident, John caught the eye of Rudy Sarzo who was so impressed with John’s quick step-up, that he took him to dinner and asked to work with him. This in turn saw John meet producer Bob Marlette, who became a gateway for John’s burgeoning career as a session guitarist. This partnership, and friendship continues to this day.

Big breaks saw John working with the legendary Lita Ford opening up for KISS, which for the man who is a huge KISS fan was like “ all my Christmas’ coming at once ”.  Further work included with former Ozzy Osbourne drummer Randy Castillo and his first big project – ‘Red Square Black’. Together they released one EP – ‘Square’  Shortly after John was selected from over 2000 other guitarists to play with K.D.Lang.

John’s career flourished when he teamed up with Rob Halford and formed industrial/classic rock band ‘2wo’ (Two).Their album, ‘Voyeurs’ was produced by Nine Inch Nail’s frontman Trent Reznor. Following this, John worked with another chldhood hero – Dave Lee Roth – writing and playing on ‘The DLR Band’ album. “W e did it in two weeks, and I remember Dave saying before we started recording, if you can’t do it in two takes, then you can’t do it .”

In 1998, shock-rocker Marilyn Manson had just recording ‘Mechanical Animals’ and was in need of a new live guitarist following the departure of Zim Zum. John had just returned home following a European tour with 2wo, and almost immediately was contacted by Manson’s management team, who invited John to lunch; ‘ I get there and it’s Manson himself sitting at the table. As a result of that first meeting I had a new name and I was in the band.”  Signed on initially to play on the Rock Is Dead tour, John, now anointed John 5 by Manson, also contributed to the Grammy nominated “Astonishing Panorama of the Endtimes”. 

In April 1999, the US was rocked by a horrifying mass shooting at Columbine High School, and a media backlash saw the band the recipients of several death threats. Regrouping at the Houdini House in Laurel Canyon work began on ‘Holywood: In The Shadow of the Valley of Death’ the first full studio album that John 5 worked on. “ Manson is a phenomenal producer and visionary. His production knowledge is astounding.”

During this period John 5 continued to do session work, contributing to the Jimi Hendrix Tribute album ‘Hazy Days’ and reuniting with Dave Lee Roth for the track ‘Thug Pop’. 

After the phenomenal success of Holywood, the band returned to the studio to record a different kind of album – the Burlesque, Weimar Republic stylized ‘The Golden Age of Grotesque’. However, the subsequent tour proved deeply conflicting as John 5’s personal life clashed with his work life and as a result some tensions arose in the band. So in 2004, after 5 years in the band, John 5 and Manson decided to part company; “ I’ll never regret working with Manson, it was such a blast, but we both knew it was time to move on “. Retaining his nickname and after a chance encounter with the legendary Les Paul, began working on his first solo album ‘Vertigo’. The mix of John 5’s trademark Drop D tuning intermixed with the Bluegrass music sounds he has listened to as a child, proved a hit with old fans, as well as introducing him to new followers.

John 5’s solo career turned out not to be a flash in the pan, and he has now released 9 studio albums, a live album and a remix album . He has worked with several special guests on those albums, including Albert Lee who called John 5 “ one of the nicest guys I’ve worked with “, Steve Vai who called John “ underrated ”, Joe Satriani, Jim Root, Eric Johnson and many more. As well as his solo albums John 5 teamed up with the vocal talents of Joe Grah (formerly of Texas band Jibe) to form “radio rock project” Loser. Their first single, ‘Disposable Sunshine’ featured on the Fantastic Four soundtrack. 

In 2006, John 5 was invited to join Rob Zombie for a short Ozzfest tour. Despite being told “ not to get too comfortable ”, the pairing brought a resurgence in Zombie, who at the point was turning his hand to directing movies and taking a break from music, they began work on 2006’s ‘Educated Horses’. As a consequence John 5 had to make the decision to leave his fledgling band Loser. “ Being the founding member of Loser, my decision to leave was not an easy one .”

John 5 continued to work with Zombie until Fall 2022, co-writing on all studio albums from Educated Horses until 2021’s The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy. He also composed the score for Zombie’s 2013 movie ‘The Lords Of Salem’ and 2016’s ’31’. 

In October 2022, it was announced that John 5 would be joining Mötley Crüe as live guitarist following the announcement that Mick Mars would be retiring. John 5 will be seen in 2023 with Crue as they tour with Def Leppard for their Latin America and European tour dates. John said of the news “ I’m honored to carry on Mick’s legacy and am looking forward to playing these songs .”

In 2015, following a series of web shows to celebrate the release of his solo album ‘Careful With That Axe”, John 5 decided to take his solo set on tour, and formed The Creatures band to support his live shows. Initially joined by long-term friend Rodger Carter on drums, the band continues touring to this day, and now work as a unit on 5’s solo albums, including ‘Season Of The Witch’, the live album ‘It’s Alive’ ‘Invasion’ and 2021’s ‘Sinner’. The current line-up includes John 5, Ian Ross on bass and drummer Alejandro Mercado.

Although John 5 does less “hired gun” work, he has contributed to work with Lynryd Skynrd, Meatloaf, Ricky Martin, Rod Stewart, and Motley Crue. 

“ I’m busy, constantly busy with work but I look at who I am in the studio with or sending music to and I think  I don’t ever want it to stop.”
