And just like that, the PGA Tour season finale is upon us, with the 30 leading contenders in the FedEx Cup set to tee it up at the oldest course in Atlanta and the home of Bobby Jones, East Lake Golf Club.
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler returned to the summit of the FedEx Cup standings courtesy of a T3 finish at the BMW Championship. In the unique scoring format, the Masters champion will tee it up at the Tour Championship at 10-under-par and a two stroke lead from his nearest competitor.
Patrick Cantlay is hot on the heels of his American counterpart after a successful title defence at the BMW Championship, where he became the first player in FedEx Cup history to defend a Playoffs title. The 30-year-old will begin the Tour Championship two shots adrift of Scheffler with the chance to make history again and become the first back-to-back winner of the FedEx Cup.
Will Zalatoris rounds off a trio of American's at the top of the standings and was expected to begin the Tour Championship three off the lead. The 26-year-old claimed his first PGA Tour title in emphatic fashion at the FedEx St. Jude Championship earlier this month but a back injury forced a third round withdrawal last week. The 26-year-old's race to recover has been unsuccessful and he has withdrawn from the tournament.
Recently-crowned Open champion Cameron Smith , who was ruled out of the BMW Championship as a result of a hip injury, returns at East Lake. The Aussie was the subject of a recent report which claimed this may well be his last PGA Tour event, with the 28-year-old rumoured to have signed a lucrative $100m deal to join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series.
Rory McIlroy is presented with the opportunity to make history this week. The Northern Irishman enters at No.7 in the FedEx Cup standings and although six shots off the lead, can become the first three-time winner of the FedEx Cup.
Ten players will make their Tour Championship debuts at East Lake, including fan favourite Sahith Theegala. The Californian has had a superb rookie season on the PGA Tour, with five top-10 finishes - including an agonising T2 at the Travellers Championship.

2024 Tour Championship purse, prize money: Payout from $100M FedEx Cup pool for Scottie Scheffler, field
The $25 million bonus paid out to the tour championship winner is the largest in pga tour history.
The largest prize fund ever established was dished out on Sunday at the 2024 Tour Championship as the entire PGA Tour season concluded at East Lake Golf Club. With the top 30 players from the PGA Tour vying for their slice of the $100 million FedEx Cup bonus pool -- up $25 million from last year -- competitors had the chance to see jaw-dropping figures hit their back accounts by week's end.
Signature events and the first two playoff events boasted a total purse of $20 million, which amounted to $5 million less than what this week's eventual winner will take home. Increasing $7 million compared to the last two seasons, the winner's share represents the largest in PGA Tour history and a $10 million increase compared to 2019 -- the first year of the staggered start format.
Scottie Scheffler was the lone man to surpass $25 million in earnings this season as he won the Masters, Players Championship and four signature events -- six of the largest paydays of the year . Xander Schauffele nearly clipped $20 million himself thanks to two major victories, while Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark and Rory McIlroy round out those to earn more than eight figures in 2024.
Scheffler and Collin Morikawa, who is winless on the season, were engaged in a two-horse race to the finish before Scheffler got to 30 under and took down the two-time major champion for his seventh PGA Tour victory of the season and the biggest payday in golf history.
Still, a top-five finish guaranteed players at least a $5 million bonus, while those inside the top 12 all saw seven figures next to their names. Everyone in the field earned at least a half million dollars for qualifying for the Tour Championship.
Let's take a look at the payout list for the 30 players who were in attendance at the 2024 Tour Championship. The other 120 players in the FedEx Cup standings will split the remaining $17.05 million.

Our apologies in advance for this story, Jon Rahm.
We joke, of course. Still, it was the world No. 3 who eloquently put on Friday that the money involved in this week’s Tour Championship was not on players’ radars, and that the attention given to the purse was a nuisance.
For clarity, here is the complete exchange:
“Early in your career when you’re first starting out, did you ever think about the money …”
No, Rahm said.
“… in terms of if I miss this or make …”
No, Rahm said again.
“Do you think …”
Here, he had more than one word.
“It’s one of the things that frustrates me about watching this broadcast. Like, we’re not thinking if we miss a putt how much it’s going to cost us money-wise. No chance. Like, none whatsoever. You’re trying to finish as high as possible. You’re trying to win a tournament. It’s one of my pet peeves when they make this tournament all about money because I think it takes away from it.
“When you win a green jacket, I can tell you right now that any major champion this year might not remember how much money they made. And that’s the beauty about this game and I think that’s kind of how it should be. Obviously I’m saying that being in an extremely privileged position financially. I mean, at that point, from first to second, you’re making a ton of money, so it’s more about winning than the prize itself.”
All good points. But with that …
Below is a complete list of the 2023 Tour Championship payouts for all 30 players. We’ve also listed players 31 to 150, as they are also paid under the purse, also known as the FedEx Cup bonus pool. The total purse is $75 million.

2024 Senior PGA Championship final results: Prize money payout, PGA Tour Champions leaderboard, how much each golfer won
The 2024 Senior PGA Championship final leaderboard is headed by winner Richard Bland, who topped the PGA Tour Champions leaderboard this week with a major win on the 2024 PGA Tour Champions schedule at The Club at Harbor Shores Resort in Benton Harbor, Mich.
Bland closed the second major of the senior season with a 63 to pull away from the field and win by three shots on 17-under 267. The Australian Richard Green finished runner-up on the week, while Greg Chalmers finished in third.
Jason Caron had an incredible week to finish T-4 with Asian Tour regular Scott Hend, who made it three Aussies in the top five.
Bland won the $630,000 winner's share of the $3,500,000 purse.
Senior PGA Championship recap notes
Bland wins the 11th PGA Tour Champions title of the year, getting into the winner's circle on the 50-plus tour.
The money Bland (were he a member) -- and every PGA Tour Champions player in the field -- earned is converted into Charles Schwab Cup points, with every dollar converted into two points during the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs.
There is no cut on PGA Tour Champions-run events, including the major championships they run. Every pro who finished the tournament was paid, though there was a 36-hole cut to the top 70 and ties as this event is run by the PGA of America.
The 2024 PGA Tour Champions schedule continues next week with the Principal Charity Classic in Iowa.

Ryan Young/PGA Tour
To the winner goes the spoils. But the spoils that come with winning this week’s Tour Championship for Viktor Hovland … well they’re the spectacular variety.
Try $18 million.
Yep, that’s the payday the 25-year-old from Norway collected (after earning $3.6 million for his win last week at the BMW Championship) by closing with a Sunday 63 at East Lake Golf Club (after shooting a Sunday 61 for his win last week at the BMW) to claim a five-shot triumph over Xander Schauffele. Officially, the money on the line this week in Atlanta is not tournament prize money, but rather the payout for the $75 million FedEx Cup bonus pool that players are receiving for their finishes in the season-long points race. (No player’s career earnings increases as a result of their performance in the 2022-23 season finale.)
But that doesn’t mean the cash isn’t crazy. We’ve noted this in the past, but we think it’s worth repeating: For their entire PGA Tour careers, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, winners of 25 majors and 135 tour titles, earned a combined $7,595,888. The difference between finishing first and second this week alone is more than that ($11.5 million).
Here then is the prize money payout for each golfer in the final FedEx Cup standings after the conclusion of the Tour Championship. As with regular PGA Tour events, money is split equally among players if there are tied for different places in this last event of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season.
An additional note: Every player in the FedEx Cup top 150 earns some distribution from the bonus pool. It’s why the list below has far more prize money payouts than just the 30 competing in the Tour Championship.

Scottie Scheffler wins PGA Tour's FedEx Cup title, $25M payday
Scottie Scheffler bounces back from a rough front nine with three straight birdies and an eagle to seal a Tour Championship win. (1:08)
- Associated Press
ATLANTA -- A Masters green jacket and an Olympic gold medal. A first-time father and his first time being arrested. A year Scottie Scheffler won't forget ended the best way possible Sunday when he won the FedEx Cup to cap off golf's best season in nearly two decades.
"If you can describe it in words, more power to you," Scheffler said after his four-shot victory in the Tour Championship for his eighth win of the year. "Because I don't think I can."
As always, his clubs spoke volumes.
Scheffler, who led by as many as seven shots at East Lake early in the final round, nearly hit a tee shot out of bounds on No. 7 for bogey. He followed that with a shank from the bunker on the reachable par-4 eighth that led to another bogey. His lead was down to two shots over Collin Morikawa .
Facing the par-3 ninth, a hole that had yielded only nine birdies all week, Scheffler hit 4-iron to 5 feet for the first of three straight birdies that sent him to a 4-under 67 and the FedEx Cup trophy with its $25 million prize, the richest in golf.
"All I'm trying to do is hit a good shot," he said. "This year, I've been able to do that a lot."
The victory pushed his season earnings, including bonuses, to just under $62.3 million.
It was the greatest year since Tiger Woods won eight times in 2006, including six in a row and two majors, all while dealing with the death of his father. Scheffler's eight wins included the Masters, The Players Championship, an Olympic gold medal and the Tour Championship that enabled him to finally claim the FedEx Cup.
His seven PGA Tour titles are the most since Woods in 2007.
"We'll look back on 2024 and it's obviously one of the best individual years that a player has had for a long time," Rory McIlroy said.
Adam Scott , who tied for fourth in the FedEx Cup, turned pro during the peak of Woods in 2000 and did not shy away from the comparisons Scheffler has invited because of his consistent level of contending.
"I think it is on par with those great years of Tiger's," Scott said. "I think it's very hard today for anyone to separate themselves as much as Scottie has. I don't think we've seen that in a long time. I think it's harder to do it today."
Scheffler took the drama out of the final hour -- four of his wins this year were by three shots or more -- and finally let out a "WOOO!!" as he stepped inside to sign his card. He hoisted two big trophies, the silver FedEx Cup and his 4-month-old son, Bennett.
But it was hard work.
This was the third straight year Scheffler came to East Lake as the top seed, meaning he started the tournament at 10-under par with a two-shot lead. Two years ago, he lost a six-shot lead in the final round to McIlroy.
He has been PGA Tour player of the year the past two seasons, leaving without the FedEx Cup trophy. "It definitely leaves a bad taste in your mouth at the end of the year," he said.
Scheffler was determined for that not to be the case, though it got dicey as storm clouds began to threaten. Most harrowing was the two-shot swing on No. 8, when Morikawa pumped his fist with a birdie as Scheffler's shank led to a bogey.
And then it was over.
After his birdie on the ninth, Scheffler hit wedge to 3 feet on No. 10 for birdie, and then swirled in a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-3 11th.
"He's not going to just starting making bogeys after that," Morikawa said. "He's going to do the opposite and he's going to start hitting golf shots. It almost brought his focus back in for a half second, and that's something you can't teach."
Just like that, his lead was back to five shots. And when he holed a 15-foot eagle putt on the 14th hole, it was a matter of getting to the finish line to celebrate.
Scheffler finished out of the top 10 only three times in his 19 starts. He had a pair of runner-up finishes to go along with seven PGA Tour titles.
"He's the guy to beat every single week," Justin Thomas said. "I don't think people understand how hard that is to do, when you're expected to win, when you're the favorite to win, when every single thing you're doing is being looked at -- good and bad -- on the golf course, and how hard it is to get in your own little zone and own little world and truly just quiet the noise."
Morikawa, the No. 7 seed who started the tournament six shots behind, closed with a 66 and had the lowest score of the Tour Championship at 22-under 262. He won $12.5 million for finishing second in the FedEx Cup.
"Six shots behind was hard against the best player in the world," Morikawa said. "I tried."
Sahith Theegala , who called a two-shot penalty on himself Saturday for possibly brushing a small amount of sand on a bunker shot, closed with a 64 and finished third. He finished two shots behind Morikawa and earned a $7.5 million bonus for third place.
And to think it was just over five months ago when Scheffler was questioned about his putting, and he was coming up on a full year since his last PGA Tour title. (He won the unofficial Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.)
His season earnings of $29,228,356 represented about 9.2% of the $317.4 million total purse from tournaments he played. Woods won $10,867,052 in 2007, about 9.7% of $112.5 million in total prize money.
Woods won about 11.6% of the total prize money in tournaments he played during 2000, still regarded as one of the great seasons ever.
The $25 million FedEx Cup prize is unofficial, as is the $8 million Scheffler received from the "Comcast Business Top 10" for leading the regular season.
The FedEx Cup trophy felt valuable in its own right, a perfect end to an astonishing season.
"It's been a very eventful year," Scheffler said, "but it's been really fun."

2024 Procore Championship Full Field: PGA Tour Fall Season Begins
John schwarb | 5 hours ago.
After a week off to watch Week 1 of the NFL like the rest of us, the PGA Tour resumes this week with its “FedEx Cup Fall” schedule.
Starting at the Procore Championship in Napa, Calif., there will be million-dollar first-place checks up for grabs and, just as importantly, playing opportunities for next year.
Players ranked No. 51 and down in the FedEx Cup points list continue to compete for points, with spots in the first two signature events of 2025 up for grabs. And while full Tour cards are secure for next year for players from 51-70 in points, players below that will be busy this fall to try to ensure full privileges for next year in non-signature events.
The field this week at the Silverado Resort North Course features plenty of those players but also several familiar names. The Presidents Cup teams for the United States and International sides were finalized last week, and four players from those teams are teeing it up this week to stay fresh for the matches at the end of the month: Wyndham Clark, Corey Conners, Max Homa and Sahith Theegala. International team captain Mike Weir is also playing.
Theegala is the defending champion, Homa won the two editions prior to that—all when the event was known as the Fortinet. Stewart Cink, Cameron Champ and Kevin Tway are all in the field and champions when it was the Safeway Open. Procore is the fourth title sponsor in a decade for the Napa event and the purse took a haircut this year to $6 million, down from last year’s $8.4 million.
Here’s the full field for the fall opener from the PGA Tour, follow this X post all week for any field adjustments:
