Free entry to Phezulu Safari Park includes: two restaurants, kids play area, view, shield factory and two curio shops. Charged activities are Reptile Park, Cultural Village and Zulu dance show and game drive into our beautiful private game reserve. We have 2 restaurants providing a variety of meals from Crocodile to Burgers. Our accommodation is made up of a lodge and three self catering Chalets with a view of the valleys. We are the perfect venue for Weddings, Conferences, Work Functions, Kids Birthday Parties, Team Building. Phezulu Safari Park is only 35 minutes from Durban situated between Durban and Pietermaritzburg in the Valley of 1000 Hills. Phezulu has been providing entertainment to the local and foreign tourist industry in the Valley of 1000 Hills for the last 25 years. This jewel of Durban has humble beginnings a small Zulu village which has transformed into a world famous destination. Phezulu Safari Park is about having unique experiences, creating memories and refreshing ones soul. Whilst only 35 minutes from Durban you escape completely from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Phezulu Reptile Park

The reptile park has been upgraded and now includes a brand new exotic snake collection and new baby alligators to our already elaborate indigenous snake and Nile crocodile collection. Come and face your fears by handling a harmless brown house snake, or holding our 40kg Burmese Python “Cleo” or if you are rally brave try our Fear Factor Challenge where you can “enjoy” a meal inside one of our crocodile enclosures.

Phezulu Zulu Village and Dance Show

Our Zulu village has been the mainstay of Phezulu Safari Park. The Gasa family have been entertaining our guests for years with their traditional dance shows demonstrating their skills with grace, agility and humour. The Zulu village tour also teaches you about the culture and traditions of Zulu living and feel free to visit our Zulu Shield and Spear factory. Zulu village tours and dance shows are at 10:00, 11:30, 14:00 and 15:30.

Phezulu Game Reserve

Our game park has the friendliest Giraffe in the world. Visitors are driven into the Historical Valley of 1000 hills by our guides in open 4×4 game vehicles which lends itself to the beautiful views of the area. You are guaranteed to get up close and personal with wildlife such as Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Impala, Blesbuck and a variety of beautiful bird species. …. A photographer’s delight.

Phezulu Boma and Spaza Restaurant

The two restaurants have been upgraded and the new food and coffee menu now appeals to the many locals visiting the park while retaining traditional flavours and methods . The Boma restaurant appeals to someone looking for a beautiful meal or coffee whilst enjoying the view. The Spaza Restaurant has a free kids play area where you can relax whilst the kids play or visit the reptile park under the safe supervision of our guides. We also cater for Kids Parties. Reptile tours are hourly and there are venomous snake demonstrations on weekends and public holidays at 12:30.

A wonderful Durban attraction and a personal favourite of ours for a great day out. Phezulu Safari park is located 35 minutes from Durban central in a beautiful setting. This Jewel of Durban has humble beginnings, a small Zulu village which has been transformed into Durban’s most famous tourist destination.

Phezulu Safari Park offers a variety of experiences for visitors. The cultural village tours provide insight into Zulu traditions , including mesmerizing dance performances. The performers in their beaded rainbow of colors steal the show. But some will wear more types of traditional outfits so you have a full cultural insight into the tribal and traditional history. You also get to watch demonstrations of traditional practices like beadwork and even engage in the unique Zulu’s courtship process. 

The drive through Phezulu Safari park takes the prize though, nothing short of excellent! Visitors get to experience guided tours through the park’s expansive terrain, encountering diverse wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeests and other savannah based animal species. The knowledgeable guides provide fascinating insights into the animals’ behavior and habitats, making the Safari both educational and exhilarating.

There’s also a reptile park that includes a new exotic snake collection. You can also face your fears by handling a harmless brown house snake or, if you’re feeling really brave, a 40 kg Burmese python. 

Within this amazing Durban attraction though, the crocodiles steal the show with their sheer size and beauty. If you are really brave you can try out their fear factor challenge where you can “enjoy” a meal inside one of their crocodile enclosures. Scary or what!

This can also become a regular haunt for Sunday breakfast. The restaurant has a uniquely African menu. They also have a gift shop that has lots of souvenirs, a cafe with a long porch, and a wonderful panoramic view of the valley of a 1000 hills. The view adds to the whole experience.

Accommodation

There is a restaurant, a bar, guest lounge with a fireplace and a pool table on site. All units have tea/ coffee making facilities and Wi-Fi. The rooms are offered on a bed only basis and the chalets are self catering.

Lodge Main Room - Bed Only (Sleeps 4 - 6): Our main suite is the perfect setting for a special night. The Main Room boasts a private lounge and a luxurious bathroom with Jacuzzi bath and shower. With a King-size bed and two single beds in the attached room it could be suitable for a family as well.

Standard Lodge Room - Bed Only (Sleeps 2): These rooms all have a King-size bed (can be converted to two single beds), a bathroom with a shower and a TV with DStv bouquet channels.

Plane Tree Chalet - Self Catering (Sleeps 6): The rustic cottage consists of one bedroom with a King-size bed and a large lounge with two single beds and a double sleeper couch. There is one bathroom which is accessible from both the lounge and bedroom. The chalet also has a kitchenette and braai area.

Acacia Tree Chalet - Self Catering (Sleeps 6): This chalet has two bedrooms en-suite and a central living area. The rooms are on either side of the lounge. One room has a King-size bed and the other two singles with a sleeper couch in the lounge. The chalet also has a kitchenette and braai area.

Cabbage Tree Chalet - Self Catering (Sleeps 2): The Cabbage Tree Chalet is perched on top of the hill. It is the perfect chalet for two with a double bed and en-suite bathroom with shower. It also includes a small kitchenette and a private braai.

The Boma Restaurant serves meals ranging from Traditional Zulu meals or Crocodile steaks to toasted sandwiches and burgers.

Phezulu offers a one hour scenic Game drive (priced per person). On the drive you will see wildebeest, impala, blesbok, zebra and giraffe. You will be taught about medicinal plants in the area as well as experience the amazing views. Phezulu also offers a Crocodile and Snake park where our guests will be taken on a tour by knowledgeable guides.

The Cabbage Tree Chalet is perched on top of the hill. It is the perfect chalet for two guests. It is furnished with a double bed and has an en-suite bathroom with shower, hand basin and WC. It also includes a small kitchenette and a private braai.

This was a home away home experience . We were booked for 2nights, we did not know what to expect . On day 2 we left our space in a utter mess , when we got back to our rooms i was so embarrassed to come back to spotless clean chalet, our clothes were packed neatly , fresh towels provided, kitchen spotless. Its a pity we didn't get to meet the cleaning staff to thank them in persons.

At Phezulu village, the world famous Gasa clan has over the last 30 years, allowed visitors to Phezulu the opportunity to savour the taste and feel the rhythm of Africa. Availability and Pricing

1. PAYMENT In order to confirm your booking 50% deposit needs to be paid if you are booking more than 2 weeks in advance. If your booking is within 2 weeks of your arrival then 100 % needs to be paid to confirm the booking. Full payment needs to be paid 2 weeks prior to arrival date. Otherwise your booking will be deemed as cancelled. Deposit need to be paid within 1 day of receiving an invoice if the deposit has not been paid we reserve the right to rebook the property on a first pay first book basis. A breakage deposit of R500 is payable upon arrival. The breakage deposit is refunded within 10 days of departure subject to satisfactory inspection of the property by Phezulu Management. Non-payment of the full balance of the rental on or before the due date shall be construed as a termination of the contract by the Client. No activities are included in the price for accommodation. Alterations If a client wishes to alter their booking the Manager will endeavour to comply, however alteration cannot be guaranteed. 3. VAT No VAT is applicable on any transactions. 4. LIABILITY Phezulu and its employees do not accept third party liability in respect of breach of contract, negligence, misrepresentation or otherwise. In addition, liability does not extend to circumstances amounting to “Force Majeure”. Phezulu shall not be held responsible for the loss or damage of any nature, including that as a result of theft or bodily injury suffered by any person who enters these premises and utilizes the facilities on offer arising out of any circumstances whatsoever. 5. PERIOD OF HIRE Rentals commence, unless otherwise notified, at 14h00 on the day of arrival and terminate at 10h00 on the day of departure. Check in time on the day of arrival is between 14:00 – 17:00 if the Client will be arriving after 17:00 Phezulu needs to be notified to make the necessary arrangements. 6. NUMBER OF PERSONS IN THE PROPERTY The number of persons occupying the property must not exceed the amount stipulated by guest in the Check in form at any one time. Phezulu reserves the right to refuse entry to the entire party, or apply extra charges if this condition is not observed. 7. FOOD 7.1 Food in the Lodge If Client books a Lodge room the Lodge kitchen may not be used for cooking, preparing food or the braai area may not be used. Client do have a tea and coffee station in their room. If the Client rents the entire Lodge Room 1-5 the kitchen may be used and the Lodge would function as a self-catering unit. No food is included in the price for the Lodge rooms 7.2 Food in the Chalets Chalets are booked as self-catering units no food is included in the price of the chalet. If windows or doors are left open and monkeys eat or damage food in chalets or lodge Phezulu cannot be held responsible. Enough tea, coffee, sugar and milk or coffee creamer is provided in the chalets for one cup per person. 8. CARE OF THE PROPERTY The Client shall take all reasonable and proper care of the property and its furniture, pictures, fittings and effects in or on the property and leave them in the same state of repair and in the same clean and tidy condition at the end of the rental period as at the beginning. 9. BREAKAGES, DAMAGE OR LOSS OF KEYS The Client is legally bound to reimburse Phezulu for replacement, repair or extra cleaning costs on demand or breakage deposit will be withheld to cover the cost. No Littering in the car park, braai or garden areas is allowed. 10. PETS We regret that we do not allow pets on the Property. 11. MUNICIPALITY We have a continuous supply of electricity and drinkable water from the Municipality. Phezulu cannot be held responsible for interruptions due to faults, water restrictions or load shedding. 12. RIGHT OF ENTRY Phezulu Staff members shall be allowed the right of entry to the property at all reasonable times for purposes of inspection or to carry out any necessary repairs or maintenance. 13. SMOKING Smoking is not permitted inside the Lodge or Chalets. Patio areas are provided where smoking is allowed. 14. CHILDREN Clients must accept responsibility for the safety of their children at all times. 15. BEHAVIOUR Clients are obliged to take care that the peace of the establishment is not disturbed by themselves and/or their party. Failure to observe this condition may result in termination of the rental. Please be respectful to other guests and refrain from using loud music or excessive noise on the premises. Functions, picnics or music are only aloud in case of written proof by a Phezulu Manager that it has been arranged and it may not impact other guests. 16. INTERNET Internet connection is supplied by Telkom. Phezulu cannot be held responsible for internet interruptions. There are 2 access points at Phezulu, the Lodge and the Spaza restaurant. The chalets are not in reach of the Wifi signal. 17. SWIMMING POOL The pool area may be used by all Phezulu guests staying over. Please be respectful towards other guests. Key for the pool area is kept at reception. The pool does not have a heating system. Children are not allowed to swim without adult super vision at all times .Alcohol is not allowed in the pool area. Glass is not allowed in the pool area for the safety of the Clients. Phezulu does not provide a life guard for the pool area it is used, at the Clients own risk.

The rustic cottage consists of one bedroom and a very large living area. There is one bathroom/ shower which is accessible from both the lounge and bedroom. The lounge has 2 single beds and a sleeper couch. The bedroom has a king size bed. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a lovely private braai area. The magnificent Valley of 1,000 Hills panorama is your garden. DSTV dish provided, bring your own decoder.

Acacia Tree Chalet

Our 4 sleeper chalet has two bedrooms & a central living area. The rooms are on either side of the lounge & each have their own bathroom/ shower en suite. One room has 2 single beds and the other room a king size bed. The lounge has a pull out sleeper couch for an addition 2 children. There are double doors leading out to the patio & braai area overlooking the valley. The open plan living area has got a fully equipped kitchen.

The Cabbage tree chalet is perched on top of the hill. Cabbage tree chalet is the perfect chalet for 2 with a double bed and en-suite bathroom with shower. Lodge House

The Lodge can also be rented as an entire unit and as self-catering (maximum 12 people) The lodge also has a large living area with a pool table and thatched bar. Meals can be taken in the dining room which leads on from the lounge area and BBQ/braai area. The Lodge has got a big kitchen for self-catering if you take it as a unit. The Lodge is also available for functions. A breakage deposit is require upon arrival.
