If so, you will want to check out the range of Cannon gun safes. Cannon gun safes are popular with buyers, and they have a safe for every size that you might need. If you only have 24 rifles (or less), you will want to have a look at the Cannon Safari 24 gun safe. If you have 25-36 rifles to store, the Cannon Safari 36 gun safe is the right one for you.

The Cannon Safari 48 gun safe has got you covered and as the name implies can hold up to 48 guns.

Since the Cannon 24 Safari gun safe, the Cannon Safari 36 gun safe, and the Cannon Safari 48 gun safe are all part of the same series, we can examine the features for each of them at the same time.

Each of these Cannon gun safes includes 30 minutes of fire protection for your guns and other valuables, and secures with locking bolts and internal hinges. Adjustable shelving allows you to rearrange the interior as you see fit. If for example you only have 30 guns to store and you purchase the 36 gun safe, you might add some internal shelving for other valuables. If however you do have 36 guns to store, you might want to remove all that shelving so you can make full vertical use of the gun safe capacity (or buy a larger safe, like the Safari 48).

These are all very highly rated Cannon gun safes, and the Cannon gun safe reviews for each of these models are overwhelmingly positive. Ranging from around $220-$1,000, any one of them is an excellent deal.

Customers praise the sturdiness and weight of the safe. They also liked the fact that the shelving is adjustable to your needs, and that you can utilize the interior space in any way that suits you. The safe can be bolted to the ground, which customers say is a bit challenging, but still not too difficult. You can change the lock battery from the outside of the safe.

Again, these are all basically the same safe; it is only the capacity which differs.

Originally headquartered in California, Cannon was one of the first companies to every produce gun safes. They since moved their headquarters to Henderson, Nevada and all manufacturing operations to Mexico. They have an interesting history over the last decade. Alpha Guardian acquired them through a merger with Stack-On. They then went bankrupt and came back to life. While Cannon safes are not the premier, high security products they once were, they are quite the bargain for the size. In this review, I’ll help you understand why the Cannon 48 Gun Safe TS5934 is one of the best options for the price.

Lock – Cannon 48 Gun Safe

I wish Cannon would just use the NL lock on all of their safes. In an attempt to cut cost and have the absolute lowest prices available, they opted to use a low quality Solenoid electronic lock. These locks are unbranded, un-rated and prone to failure. They include a key override for when the lock inevitably fails. Finally, they do not include a hard plate or re-locker and really are as cheap as you can get. Cannon offers an identical model with the UL Rated NL lock included, you can check it out here .

Security – Cannon 48 Gun Safe

The Cannon 48 Gun Safe TS5934 is CA DOJ approved as a firearm safety device . This rating certifies it can withstand light burglary protection. Ideally, you want a UL Approved as a Residential Security Container, RSC rating. Because it only has a 14 gauge steel door and body, it does not qualify for the test. This Cannon gun safe has 5 solid steel locking bolts 1.25″ thick and an internal hinge which offers no exposed cutting points.

In my opinion, there really isn’t a big difference between 11 gauge through 14 gauge steel as they can all be cut with the same saws. The big difference comes from the American Security BFX gun safes with concrete composite in the walls. This type of material just destroys the saw blades. They are significantly more expensive though so if you just need standard burglary protection, this 14 gauge Cannon will do a great job.

Fire Rating

The Cannon 48 Gun Safe TS5934 comes standard with a 45 minute fire rating at 1200 degrees . Cannon Gun Safes use Gypsum Fire board as their insulation material. This is consistent with nearly every other manufacturer besides American Security who uses concrete composite. Cannon used to have all of their gun safes tested with ETL to verify their claims but no longer do. This means that they only do a factory test and we have to trust that it will actually survive.

Also included is a dual state triple fin door seal . This seal expands to multiple times its size during the fire to keep smoke and heat out. Cannon also backs this gun safe with a lifetime transferable warranty against fire.

Style and Function

The Cannon 48 Gun Safe TS5934 is finished in a matte black paint scheme. Hardware includes a chrome 3-spoke handle, chrome keypad and very stylish beveled edges. The interior is a gray carpeting with split gun rack capable of holding 55 firearms, adjustable side shelving, adjustable top shelf and door panel organizer with pistol holsters, pockets and a strap for holding a long gun on the door.

The Bottom Line

The Cannon 48 Gun Safe TS5934 is not one I can recommend due to the Solenoid Electronic lock. Cannon does offer an identical model with the NL lock that is secure and much better quality. You can check the better version, here .

Not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this, so if not I apologize. I know there are discussions on gun safe topics on here etc but I need some advice. I currently have a Winchester 24 gun safe that is fire proof. I want something larger, but am economically strapped like so many others. Dunhams has a Cannon Safari 48 gun safe that is fire proof on sale for $699.00. What are your opinions/suggestions on this? I want something with more room and security than my current safe.

It looks comparable to the Scout series on the Cannon website - I think that the Safari series is made specifically to be sold by places like Dunham's and Cabela's. The main differences is in height - 55" as opposed to a full 60" for height, and only a thickness of 20" as opposed to 28" - fairly narrow front to back. In terms of security, it's probably going to be 12 gauge steel, which is thinner than 10 or 8 gauge of heavier-duty safes, and the door is composite, meaning that it's the same sheet steel sandwiching a fire resistant material, rather than having a thicker, plate steel door. I wish it had a better photo - specifically one with the door open. That way we could see the locking bolts - you need to have them on more than just the one side - if they are only on the side opposite the hinge, there are videos online showing just how quickly a couple of guys with pry bars can get into them - less than 5 minutes. If you really need something now, it would probably get you where you wanted to go, but there have been more than a few threads on safes where the general consensus is that you get what you pay for. A safe like that will keep the average Freddie Felon at bay, but it will barely slow down any one even slightly motivated. Something to consider, and again it's something that comes up in gun safe discussions, is the value of what you intend to store. There are guys who have tactical bolt guns where they've spent the better part of 5 grand on the build and glass, but only want to spend a few hundred on the safe that's intended to keep it safe. My advice would be to make do for a while if you can, until you've got a bit bigger budget, and then get something a bit more solid.

A lot of those are quite effective weapons, although the logistics would have been a nightmare. Better than the pikes the Home Guard was going to get at least. That said, how did the Soviets come across such a large mixed and really random colelction?

A lot of it would have come from WWI, either captured or supplied as aid by the Entente. After that, interventionist forces brought all sorts of weapons with them, a lot of which were captured or abandoned. Then, foreign equipment purchased as samples, captured from Poland and Finland, and maybe even from bandits out East. All of it would have found its way to Moscow for storage, as no one had any use for it.
