What Should You Bring To Sardinia as a Tourist?

Sardinia is a beautiful region of Italy with a rich history and culture dating back to the time of ancient civilizations. The best way to experience this unique country is by immersing yourself in its culture, exploring its historic sites and activities. There are many different things to do in Sardinia that will keep you entertained for days on end. It has a lot of natural beauty and wonderful culture. Sardinia is a perfect place for those who want to enjoy the seaside, hiking through the mountains, or visiting ancient ruins. Below, we write what you should bring with you when you go to Sardinia as a tourist.

  • Snacks for your day trips
  • An umbrella (just in case if you come on winter)

What Clothing Should I Take on Vacation in Sardinia?

We all know that packing clothes is a part of the holiday routine that we all dread, but it doesn’t have to be! In this section, we will give you some tips for what you should pack on your vacation. This article will provide you with some useful tips on what clothes to pack for your upcoming vacation in Sardinia . Sardinia offers many opportunities for tourists to enjoy the weather and beaches, but it does, of course, have its own set of challenges too. The unpredictable changes in temperature make it difficult to pack for a summer holiday there.

What should I wear for a summer vacation?

It is important to dress appropriately for your destination. Even if it’s a place you’ve been before, the climate and culture can change from year to year. For example, if you’re going to be visiting the Sardinia Island in the summer, even an outfit from last year might not be appropriate because it’s been unusually warm this year. In general, skirts and dresses are great options since they’re lightweight and easy to move around in. Tops that can easily transition into nightwear are also a great choice. You can also like sweaters- they’re not only stylish but cozy too. The most important thing you should do is dress appropriately for the weather conditions. If it is very hot, wear light clothes that are easy to remove when the temperature rises again – like cotton shirts and trousers rather than jeans or thick sweaters. If it’s cold outside, bring a good coat and hat with you to stay warm when hiking or exploring caves. If you are spending time by the sea or swimming outdoors, always take sun protection into account.

Packing Your Bags For A Fun Summer Vacation!

Summer vacation is a time for adventure, relaxation and memories. In order to make sure that your summer vacation is the best it can be, there are a few things you should pack! First of all, you need to pack some clothes. You will want to bring enough clothes for the duration of your trip. If you are going somewhere far away or if it will be hot and humid where you are going, take clothing that can withstand those weather conditions. When packing clothes, don’t forget the swimsuit and other gear if appropriate for your destination! When packing shoes, we recommend against taking more than two pairs of shoes with you on your trip. That way you won’t have too many options and will be more likely to wear them during your vacation as opposed to just sitting.

Genuine customer reviews.

Really lovely holiday. Great suggestion of location from you as I asked for suggestion of where to go.

Another perfect holiday at Torreruja!

Resort rep Margaret was excellent

A fantastic honeymoon trip on a lovely island. Definitely a place to recommend. Thank you.

Hotel was simply amazing. Team at Just Sardinia were also fabulous with dealing with our changing plans - in particular, a "shout out" for Aurora for being so helpful.

The hotel and its staff were both very good. The staff were kind and helpful and the food was very tasty and not over-priced.

Hotel Torreruja totally exceeded our expectations. The hotel was utterly charming . The food was fantastic, the restaurant staff were knowledgeable and the service was excellent.

Forte Village was as beautiful as ever! Our Charme Suite at Castello was great, and so were the staff and all the facilities.

We had a fantastic relaxing holiday. We won't return to the resort as we like to stay in different places, but we would definitely return to Sardinia and use Just Sardinia. Many thanks to the whole team.

Loved Sardinia and the only reason we probably wouldn't return is that we like to try new places and don't tend to go back.

We are still very happy with Due Lune and will stay there again.

Conrad Hotel was excellent, good quality hotel, excellent breakfast and helpful and friendly staff.

The accommodation was excellent. Good food and special dietary requirements taken into consideration.

We were very impressed by the team at Just Sardinia... we found you via a Google search, and booked the holiday without making any contact.. but you called us with some questions, and were fantastic about everything.. we could not rate you any higher...

Alessandro (hotel manager) and his team were absolutely fantastic.

Would definitely recommend Just Sardinia and hotel.

Roberto hit the brief magnificently and the admin staff are efficient.

Aurora put us exactly where we needed to be! With only with the limited information we provided!

The staff were amazing, happy and so enthusiastic about the hotel and island.

A beautiful place, staff were brilliant, the food wonderful - we had a marvellous time.

All the information you need before hand, wonderful communication and service. Highly recommend.

Our holiday in Santa Teresa served our needs perfectly. The town beach is superb and we found restaurants with very good food and lovely staff. Overall, a great trip.

The app is great and very helpful to have the information easily accessible in one place. Also that you didn't need an internet connection to access it.

Excellent, I would go back tomorrow.

We had wonderful time at Villa L'arco. The Villa was excellent for a relaxing holiday. The local village was friendly and helpful, even though our Italian was woeful. We had wonderful meals at Jama 7.5 pizzeria and restaurant Ajo and managed to get all of the provisions we needed from the little Sigma supermarket. We also had great days out at beaches near Santa Teresa Gallura and Palau.

Fantastic stay, service, facilities and staff all 5*. Could not ask for more. Thank you to all for the wonderful holiday.

Fantastic service, 5* could not do enough. Thank you to all the staff involved.

Fantastic company, thank you for making our holiday a wonderful experience.

Such a wonderful hotel with amazing service and food.

Surely the best known sea resorts in Sardinia are Villasimius, Costa Rei, Alghero, Stintino, Orosei, Emerald Coast, Pula, Chia and Teulada, but also less known destinations like the minor islands Sant Antioco and San Pietro, the south-west with its abandoned mines and secluded beaches, the Costa Verde and the still authentic inland become more and more reception!

OUR TRIP TO SARDINIA WITH WONDERFUL NATALIA AND ROBERTO "Our group of 7 people , friends from USA (Washington, NY, Philadelphia ) and Australia travelled on October 2018 with this agency. From day one , when Natalia and Roberto met us in the airport we felt surrounded by care, professional approach and felt so welcome in this amazing Italian island. Trip was designed and well thought with increadible creativity. We were stunned by combination of Italian hospitality , warmth , food choices mixed with exotic beauty of the island. With company private comfortable jipp and knowledgeable associates we visited unbeaten path of gardens, cork woods, wineries, beaches , little towns, castles as well as farms and even festivities with great people of Sardinia. Hiking, swimming in gourgeus blue waters was priceless. Highly recommend this tour company ! We immediately started thinking of next trip, combining other areas , which we would like to visit ! Thank you so much Natalia and Roberto !!"

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE IN SARDINIA AND CORSICA “We had an outstanding trip to Sardinia due to Visit Sardinia . A group of 3 families spent two and a half weeks visiting Sardinia and Corsica. I worked w/Natasha to build a flexible itinerary. She is very good at providing a structure with options for hotels in each area. She locked us into amazing rooms in each of the three hotels/areas we decided on. The best thing about working w/this travel service is the special attention and one of a kind experiences arranged by this service. We had unique wine tastings/cooking classes, concerts, nature walks, kayaking/boating and learning experiences etc. The best part was that during the trip, we had flexibility to build in golfing, diving, boating, swimming/surfing all with a call to Natasha and everything was pivoted and arranged flawlessly. Roberto, her husband, is a professional jazz musician but was equally supportive and was able to show us people and places that would never be available to a normal tourist. My daughter was doing an internship on sustainable fabrics and the couple arranged three amazing interviews in the cork area and then secured a one of kind experience and interview w/chiara vigo at the bisso musuem in Sant'Antiocco. Roberto drove my daughter/wife to this museum and translated and the whole experience just showed how this agency is client-focused, they really care. The importance of having local people who can quickly/easily arrange excursions is part of what makes Visit Sardinia so good. I can honestly say this is the best travel service, I've used. One last encounter to report, two of the couples 20th anniversary occurred while in Sardinia and Roberto/natasha arranged a beautiful waterfront gourmet meal and gave out presents and set up beautiful flowers for the event. They are simply very, very, very good at what they do. They are really good people and love Sardinia and love their work. I can't say enough to praise this company! Use them!”

AMAZING TRIP TO SARDINIA AND CORSICA “Our group of six adults recently visited Sardinia and Corsica as part of our Italian culinary and wine tour. I worked extensively with Natalia to customize our visit so that we could enjoy the beauty of Sardinia. Our vacation started in Sicily (with another guide) where we spent a lot of time moving from hotel to hotel. It was important to our group that the Sardinia portion of our trip was a more relaxed pace and that we would stay in one hotel before moving on to Corsica. Natalia worked every detail to make sure that our hotel in Costa Smeralda was first class and all other needs were addressed. She showed incredible flexibility as she rearranged pre-scheduled excursions to meet the needs of our group. We visited magnificent vineyards, beaches, private boat, and she arranged for the finest tables at fantastic restaurants. We ended our last night in Sardinia with a remarkable dinner experience at a charming farmhouse with Natalia and her husband Roberto. It was a truly memorable evening. We ended our trip on the private island of Cavallo, Corsica where we were able to relax in a natural paradise. During our stay, she arranged a private walking tour of the medieval town of Bonifacio with Christine, a fantastic local guide. It was just another incredible gem that Natalia was able to offer. Our trip was relatively complicated in terms of logistics as we moved from airports, boats, ferries, vans, dinner reservations, etc. Natalia did not miss a beat as every detail was addressed. She communicated continuously with us via email and text to make sure that we were taken care of at all times. I have traveled extensively worldwide and utilized the services of many excellent tour guides and operators. Natalia, and her company Tour Sardinia, is extremely professional and one of the finest that I have had the pleasure of working with. It is without hesitation that I would highly recommend Natalia to create a customized itinerary so that you may enjoy the beauty of Sardinia and Corsica. Enjoy your travels!!”

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE WITH ROBERTO & NATALIA IN SARDINIA “Our family visited Sardinia for four days in June. Natalia and Roberto arranged all of our travel while we were there. They created an unforgettable experience for us. Though they arrange travel, they are so much more than travel agents or tour guides. They ensured that every aspect of our visit to Sardinia was smooth and trouble-free and that we were well taken care of at every moment of our stay. They were also very generous with their own time and accompanied us on many of our excursions: a visit to the beautiful Stintino Beach (imagine water the color of the Caribbean surrounding a medieval castle); a hiking trip through the spectacular landscape of Moon Valley; lunch at a farmhouse where our hosts served us wine they had made themselves; and a tour of an artisanal winery by the winemaker himself, including a wine tasting in his own vineyard. These are only some of the wonderful experiences Natalia and Roberto created for us. As we spent time together, we learned so much from them about the history and culture of Sardinia. Roberto is a native Sardinian and, when he is not creating magical experiences for travelers, a Grammy-nominated jazz musician. Natalia is originally from Russia. Her love for her adopted Sardinian homeland, and her deep knowledge of it, shine through. We can’t thank Roberto and Natalia enough for the care and attention which they showed our family on our visit to Sardinia. We can’t wait to return!”

AMAZING TIME IN SARDINIA “We made several stops during our July trip to Italy, including famous places like Venice and Rome, but Sardinia was certainly its highlight! Natalia asked a lot of questions during the planning phase and found the ideal location for us! Everything about it was perfect! Boutique hotel La Coluccia with its beautiful grounds, breathtaking views, super friendly staff and a great sandy beach. Ancient megalithic nuraghe sites, excellent wineries and fantastic "farm-to-fork" restaurants all in a short driving distance. Coming from California we couldn't help but notice a lot of similarities in the scenery and vegetation of Sardinia and with that the differences were even more striking. No crowds. Warm sea. Medieval towns. Super fresh minimally processed food. And did i mention no crowds? :). We can't wait to come back! Thank you Natalia and Roberto for our great time in Sardinia!”

Tanya Ratcliff

"We are group of seasoned travelers who knows each other for more than 40 years. We traveled together for many years and normally have certain expectations for accommodatins and hiking. Natalya and Roberto exceeded our requirements and we feel welcomed and naturally comfortable. They were very flexible, punctual, perfectly organizing all steps of our rather complex itinerary. We left with feeling of returning back to explore different parts of island and possibly Corsica with them. Sardinia itself as destination appeared to be hidden pearl and no wonder that locals try to preserve this Island’s environment and traditions. You can find everything in Sardinia: European history, local culinary, unbelievable hiking and biking as well tremendous hospitality."

"Great trip! Well organized! Very informative but relaxing at the same time We Discovered Sardinia in a way that we want to come back! Natasha and Ricardo were amazing-made our vacation unforgettable!"

Rita Goldvug

"This is was wonderful and very well organized trip. The same time our guides was very flexible and always was ready to make changes or do extras if we ask. It was great hotels, food and transportation. Thank you."

David Goldvug

Steve Moorhead

"We have great memories of the trip, especially Sardinia. You and Roberto are obviously great guides and organizers and your efforts on our behalf made this vacation a very special memory. I again want to especially thank Roberto for his “above and beyond the call of duty” effort in looking after me."

Steve Moorhead

Customers in Canada

"Without question though, the Sardinian experience was the highpoint, and for this I must highlight the efforts of our two Sardinian VIP guides, Natalia and Roberto. We would like you to communicate, that they are extraordinarily knowledgeable and gracious hosts for their lovely country, and we would recommend them to any discerning traveler to Sardinia, without qualification. While our normal focus on trips like this is the hiking/walking experience, we found ourselves quickly getting this out of the way so we could enjoy the spectacular lunches in restaurants and homes of their friends. Never before have we enjoyed such an “insider” experience. We will be recommending it to many of our friends."

Antony Miller

"Impressions – they are beyond any words. It was a magical journey. Thank you! This is the rare case when everything worked out, and even not very good weather did not prevent to get true pleasure! The cuisine of Sardinia and everything else was at the highest level! We will recommend this food and wine tour to all friends and people who want to discover Sardinia. Thanks to Roberto and Natasha, we traveled a very interesting part of the island, visited many different places, and tried (or rather eaten) 🙂 a very different cuisine depending on historical origin and cooking characteristics. Each day was different, according to the ideas of R. and N, surprise and delight were on the increase. Since Roberto has a lot of friends around the island, he managed to arrange wonderful surprises for us. For example, at one of the meals he invited his musicians who made a real folk music concert, but they were not strained, because these musicians were dining with us at the same table, we joked and laughed, periodically sang and listened to music, and Roberto also took a guitar and joined his friends. In general, the situation turned out very homey and cozy. Another time, because of the weather, we could not take a sea tour on a fishing boat, instead, we sailed on the ferry to Asinara island, where we took (again, thanks to Roberto) two electric cars and traveled the whole island. Was good weather and a wonderful mood. We spent the whole day there. And the dinner was an open-air picnic surrounded by wild nature. All the food, or rather the dishes were specially prepared for us, of course, we tasted wonderful wine too. In general, we were lucky in everything. You ask what is more memorable, I can not answer, because every day it was a diamond put in the treasury of our travels, the guys did not leave us even after the day program, we spent the evenings with them. We did not have free time, and it was not necessary. We every night literally fell into bed, so that, with the sunrise, we again fly to new adventures! We were worried that in this time trouble we could not even buy wine, cheese, something else, well, to bring with us, so they took us to the right places, including a private shop, advised, helped to make a right choice. Of course, we visited the Costa Smeralda, the beaches there are amazing, we have already decided that when it comes the time for beach holidays, we will definitely go there. On the last evening, we said good-bye as the close friends, hugging and crying. And the last surprise-they made us a gift – a bottle of olive oil family production and a spoon stand made of Sardinian ceramics. By the way, olive oil in Sardinia is really the best, in any case, such a flavor I have never tasted. And all the products there are very fresh and natural. We ate a lot, but never felt uncomfortable :). At this end, although talking about Sardinia can be endless and only good."

Gulf of Marinella, Sardinia

Visit Sardinia, Italy

Crystal-blue turquoise coves, white-sand beaches, enigmatic Bronze Age ruins, and a rugged rural interior where time seems to move more slowly... Sardinia is just a short flight from Italy’s mainland, but the island’s fiercely independent culture makes it feel like another world. The local language, Sardo, is largely unintelligible to Italian speakers, and even the calendar is different — the new year starts in September. Our specialists have explored from the yacht-filled marinas of Costa Smeralda to the sandy stretches of beach around the capital city of Cagliari, and can help you get to know this often-overlooked island destination on a Sardinia holiday.

In Barumini, you might delve into the prehistoric Nuragic ruins that litter Sardinia, followed by a tasting of some of the island’s singular wines. You can also explore Sardinia’s distinct cuisine on a private tour of the capital. Perhaps you’d like to meet a shepherd and watch traditional cheese-making traditions, or prefer to simply loll on the deck of a private boat as you soak in the sun and views around La Maddalena. This is a multifaceted island and we can help you explore the aspects that interest you the most.

An exclusive Italian island with a super yacht lifestyle to match, discover swathes of white sand and translucent blue waters on holidays to Sardinia.

As the jet set crowd drop anchor for the long summer season and you open your balcony doors for that wake-up view of a turquoise blue Mediterranean Sea, you’ll soon realise you’ve landed on an island of barefoot bliss.

Holidays to Sardinia are about freshly caught seafood straight on the plate at decadent waters-edge restaurants, eminently stylish Robinson Crusoe adventure on deserted beaches, and inland journeys through a rugged landscape of ancient nurahgic culture. Wind down, cool off and hang out with the mega-yacht set that dock at the billionaire’s playground of the Costa Smeralda where pale sands and laid-back luxury vibes mean life on the water is just as important as what you get up to on land.

There’s the prestigious shops lining Porto Cervo, stunning Gulf of Cagliari views from the Bastion of Saint Remy and haunting Roman ruins in Tharros. But gifted the most beautiful beaches and clearest, cleanest water in all of the Med, Sardinia holidays are best taken jumping off a boat, dipping in and out of the sea and lingering over ice cold Prosecco in a bleached wood beach club as the sun sets over this exclusive enclave. Speak to us and we’ll start crafting your perfect Sardinia holiday.

Where is Sardinia Just 120 miles from mainland Italy’s west coast, Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea beautifully propped between the Balearic Islands and the Italian peninsula.

Beaches Sardinia’s beaches are the biggest draw, whether you choose the super luxurious Emerald Coast lounging at Spiaggia Liscia Ruia or venture further south to Spiaggia Portopineddu and Spiaggia di Monte Cogoni. The latter, found in the sleepy village of Chia, has shallow child-friendly waters and is a hotspot for scuba diving; three miles from Chia is the beachside resort of Santa Margherita di Pula. Between Cagliari and Carbonia, Porto Pino beach is one of the most beautiful on the island, with creamy soft sand dunes, a colony of flamingos and views out to Isola La Vacca. Or venture northwest to Spiaggia Porto Ferro, where unique orange-coloured sands give way to turquoise blue waters.

Islands The popular resort of Baia Sardinia has a beautiful setting opposite the Maddalena archipelago and is one of the more affordable destinations along the Costa Smeralda. The town is known for its excellent watersports, particularly windsurfing, and its glamorous nightlife. For a plush taste of life at sea, hop on a boat to one of the seven islands of the Maddalena archipelago where you’ll find fine white sands, clear blue waters and plenty of snorkelling opportunities.

Cagliari In the medieval capital of Cagliari there’s eight miles of magnificent coastline to explore along with tiny churches, restaurants, ancient walls and a sprinkling of museums. Flamingos flock to the ponds year-round but June is the best time to spot them as they come to nest. Back in the exclusive resort of Costa Smeralda look out for exclusive events held throughout the summer months and head to the chic town of Porto Cervo for stylish cafés, restaurants and bars.

Getting around Car hire allows you to explore the more remote parts of the island and travel easily between towns but if you’d rather not drive yet still explore, the rail network connects you to mountains, forests and coastline. Travelling by boat takes you to offshore islands and secret coves and bicycle hire is a fantastic way to explore inland Sardinia along many a scenic trail.

Food & drink There’s stylish water’s edge dining, warm and welcoming beachside trattorias and bustling restaurants in the hubbub of central squares, all filled with catch-of-the-day favourites and local Sardinian specialties including crispy Su Porcheddu (roast suckling pig) and Zuppa Gallurese (lasagne based), as well as lobster, mullet roe and sea bass. Dine alfresco with spectacular sea views, in medieval cities overlooking cobblestoned streets and in family run restaurants where pride of place is fresh seafood and local wines. Head to Olbia for wine bars, Porto Cervo for swish cocktail bars and Alghero for a lively passegiata.

Visas & passports UK visitors to Italy currently do not need a visa; however, in late 2023 (date to be confirmed) British citizens will need to apply for a European Travel Information and Authorisation System waiver, commonly known as an ETIA, which will cover a visit for up to 90 days. Passports must have at least three months validity after your intended date of departure.

Sardinia is part of Italy – and it is not. Such a proud and ancient population that has inhabited this island for millennia, it stands apart as a unique Mediterranean location that is distinctive and unusual. As we journey through the island we trace the evolution of this culture, starting with early Phoenician and Bronze Age Nuraghic structures, through to the Spanish influence on the cuisine. The Sardinian lifestyle is a key part of our tour. In the hills we hear the ‘canto a tenore’ singing, we discover the protest-art murals in the town of Orgosolo, and try the best examples of their pecorino cheese in the markets.

Our tours are a balance between being informative (examples of the culture and lifestyle, historical details) as well as having everything that makes for an enjoyable trip (long lunches in good restaurants, a relaxed pace). We plan the itinerary in the way that you would plan to travel yourself, or with a group of friends.

  • Visit key locations in Sardinia such as Cagliari, Alghero, Oristano, Bosa, Orgosolo, Cabras and Nora.
  • See and understand how the mix of populations in Sardinia has produced a very specific influence on the island, from the early Phoenician dominance, right through to the more recent Catalan influences in the north west.
  • Experience cultural aspects that are unique to Sardinia – distinctive ‘canto tenore’ singing that is so different to musical styles found on mainland Italy; the Orgosolo murals representing the 20th century protest movement; the vibrant San Benedetto markets.
  • Our Sardinia tour has a culinary focus - during your week we’ll taste a wide range of fare, from the pasticcerias, the local breads, and meals that are specifically Sardinian, such as fregula (a couscous-like pasta) and pane frattau. You will notice a fusion of Spanish and Mediterranean influences in the cuisine.
  • Visit ancient sites and discoveries, such as the Roman port town of Nora, the Iron Age statues “the giants of Mont’e Prama”, and the Bronze Age nuraghi stone fortress at Su Nuraxu.

DAY 1: BUONGIORNO SARDINIA - EXPLORING CAGLIARI

sardinia travel agents

Welcome to Sardinia, over this week you’ll start to uncover what makes this island special – fiercely independent, wonderful natural environments, unique historical sites, and a cuisine that is specifically ‘sarda’.

We start the tour in our centrally located hotel, right in the historic area of Cagliari.

Together we look through the Castello area, the oldest part of the city, located within the 14th century fortified walls and hemmed in by cliffs on either side. The history of invaders here, through the millennia, makes it understandable that people would live in this tightly packed district up on the hill.

We take a break back in the hotel, then meet and walk together to the Marina area. Here we share our first meal. The Sardinian cuisine is distinctly different from the Italian food that most of us know, the result of diverse influences. The land where they raise their sheep and their fantastic pecorino cheese. The sea that has brought invaders and settlers to these shores, and the culinary traditions that have been absorbed and made their own. The breads such as carasau – wheat has been grown here since ancient Roman times, a local greeting is “saludi e trigu” (“good health and wheat”). Pasta that you don’t find in the rest of Italy, such as fregula (similar to couscous) and culurgionis (a type of ravioli). Through this week we will try all these foods and many more. We have an enjoyable start tonight.

MEALS INCLUDED: Dinner (3 courses including wine)

ACCOMMODATION: Hotel Regina Margherita (4 star), Cagliari.

DAY 2: NORA ARCHAEOLOGICAL

sardinia travel agents

In the morning we first drive a short distance to a viewpoint over the city, where you get another perspective on aspects of Cagliari. We view the ancient Roman amphitheatre, and we see the different wetlands that surround Cagliari, used for many centuries as salt pans.

We then leave the city and travel along the southern coastline to a place called Nora. This has a long history, from starting as a Phoenician settlement in the 8th century BC, then becoming a Roman town and port. It is the Roman town that we see today – the remains of what were elegant villas by the sea complete with detailed mosaic floors and ancient Roman roads.

Lunch is in the town of Pula.

In the afternoon we visit a place called Tuvixeddu. This is a necropolis, or burial area, used first by the Phoenicians in the 6th century BC.

This is the largest Punic burial site, comprised of 1000 “well tombs” and reveals this cultures’ belief in the afterlife.

We arrive back in Cagliari in the late afternoon.

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, Lunch (3 courses including wine)

DAY 3 - NURAGHIC BRONZE AGE SITES - SU NURAXI

sardinia travel agents

We first visit the San Benedetto markets. This is the key point for the trade of all types of fresh food for the city – some of which you’ll be tempted by, some that is a bit more challenging. In these markets you see how the locals shop, what they buy, what is fresh, and what is caught in this part of the Mediterranean sea.

Next we go further back in time, yesterday’s ancient Roman town being just an introduction. Our focus today is on the Nuraghic civilisation, a Bronze Age population that lived on Sardinia. They have left some impressive markers of their presence here. Firstly we see a nuraghi, a fortified structure with almost a beehive shape, built of basalt blocks. The nuraghi that we visit in Barumini is called Su Nuraxu and is the largest of these ancient fortresses. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The original settlement dates from 1500 BC, with constant habitation for over 2000 years. This is a physical timeline of Sardinia.

After lunch in a charming agriturismo nearby we continue on to another Bronze Age site. This is known as the ‘tomb of the giants’, or locally as ‘Sa Domu and S’Orcu’. This is like nothing else that you see in Italy – the size of the stone blocks, the fascinating shape, and also just the simplicity and scale of the structure situated up on a hilltop as a monument to a forgotten time. The tomb, as well as its burial function, may have been dedicated to the god Taurus.

We continue on to our hotel in the town of Oristano, arriving in the early evening.

ACCOMMODATION: Hotel Duomo (4 star), Oristano

DAY 4 - GIANTS OF MONT’E PRAMA – SANTA CRISTINA

sardinia travel agents

From our base in Oristano we have a wealth of things to see and do in close proximity on the Sinis Peninsula. Firstly we visit the village of San Salvatore. The village itself is unlike any other town in Sardinia, with its narrow lanes lined with rows of tiny houses – in fact it has been used many times as a film set for these reasons.

We then view the ancient site of Tharros. Situated on a peninsula, this has been a prized location since Phoenician times.

Moving on to the archaeological museum in the town of Cabras, we see the statues known as the ‘giants of Mont’e Prama’. These recently found monolithic artifacts, carved in the Iron Age (900 BC), are unlike anything that you normally associate with Italian history. They were found in this area. Also in this museum we see many of the Punic and Roman items found in the nearby archaeological area of Tharros.

After a seaside lunch, we travel to the village of Santa Cristina. Here we find a sacred well, over 3000 years old and incredible for the precision of its construction. The feeling of this being a sacred place is pervasive, and we marvel at how the structure is aligned with celestial bodies.

DAY 5: ORGOSOLO MURALS – CANTO TENORE SINGING

sardinia travel agents

As a contrast to yesterday’s coastal jaunt, today we head inland, into the mountainous interior. First we visit the town of Orgosolo. This is the key mural town of Sardinia, with numerous building painted with local scenes, slogans, and an incredible variety of weird and wonderful things. We look around the town centre with a local guide. Learning about Orgosolo and the history of these murals reveals much about the more recent history of Sardinia, and the challenges and aspirations of the people who live here.

Orgosolo is also in the ‘blue zone’ of Sardinia, known for the longevity of the inhabitants here.

For lunch we visit one of the large forest parks that cover much of this central area, the Supramonte. We dine on the traditional foods cooked on an open grill, enjoyed outdoors in a casual setting.

After lunch we have a very special performance of ‘canto tenore‘ – most visitors to Sardinia do not get to experience this local polyphonic singing method. Canto tenore consists of three men singing together with different tones, creating a curious effect, while a fourth sings or chants a poem. This type of singing is specific to this Barbagia region of Sardinia and is recognised by UNESCO with its inclusion on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

During the afternoon we reach our final destination, Alghero.

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, Lunch (picnic style)

ACCOMMODATION: Hotel Punta Negra or Hotel Catalunya (both 4 star), Alghero.

DAY 6: ALGHERO

sardinia travel agents

In the morning we walk together through the historic centre of Alghero, looking at the aspects that make this such a fascinating city.

Alghero has a culture that is distinctly different from the rest of Sardinia. The key influences here are Spanish, following the conquering of the city by the Aragonese in the 14th century. The local dialect is closely related to Catalan. The old town has a superb seaside location, and much to discover. We leave you some free time to wander the lanes of the town or to enjoy the waterfront cafes.

The cuisine here is also heavily influenced by the Spanish, with paella being the signature dish.

The old town has a superb seaside location, and much to discover. There are numerous cafes along the walls and bastions of the old town, where we can enjoy a coffee looking out to sea.

Next we travel to a Bombarde beach. Sardinia is famed for its turquoise clear waters and great beaches, and we give you some time to relax on the beach, have a swim or just take it easy in the cafe nearby. Those that prefer not to have beach time will be dropped back to the hotel.

In the evening we cap off the week with ‘the last supper’, our final Sardinian meal together.

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, Dinner (3 courses including wine)

DAY 7 - ARRIVEDERCI

As we have now reached the end of our tour, we drop off at Alghero’s airport nearby and bid you “buon viaggio”.

In Cagliari we stay in the historic central area in the Hotel Regina Margherita. The hotel is a modern, well presented establishment with a good restaurant and cocktail bar.

In Oristano we stay in a boutique hotel, the Hotel Duomo. This has many interesting features and you’ll love the lounge areas where you can relax and chat in the evenings.

Near Alghero we stay in either the Hotel Catalunya or the Hotel Punta Negra looking out over the coast – a fine way to end your week in Sardinia.

Our tour of Sardinia was wonderful! Our guide, Silvia, was knowledgeable about the culture, history, food and customs. We enjoyed the attention paid to each of the travelers. Sardinia’s ancient history was a revelation into the ingenuity of ancient civilizations. An exciting and humbling experience!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Sardinia with Italy With Pleasure. The tour was well planned, fun and educational. Hotels were well located, meals were delicious and plentiful. Our tour guide, Silvia, was extremely knowledgeable and considerate of everyone’s needs. The group was small and very compatible. I would not hesitate to tour again with IWP.

I only really wanted to feedback how much my sister and I had enjoyed being part of the Italy with Pleasure October 2022 small group tour in Sardinia. It was the first time either of us had visited the island and the tour certainly gave us a good introduction to its history and culture, in addition to seeing a lot of the countryside whilst being driven on the tour minibus. We much appreciated the informative Sardinia Tour 2022 booklet given to us at the introductory meeting with Marco, our guide for the week, as well as the other printed handouts given out during our visits. We were fortunate in having a beautiful warm sunny week for our visit - ideal sightseeing weather - and also fortunate that the summer crowds had mostly disappeared so that we often had the archaeological sites to ourselves. We enjoyed all of the visits and also having some free time most evenings to explore our new surroundings; Marco, our guide, was always on hand to give suggestions of things to do or places to eat and to make sure that no member of the group was ever excluded. Whilst it was my first time in Sardinia, I hope it will not be my last, and I have no hesitation in recommending a trip with Italy with Pleasure.

Sardinia: Alghero, Costa Smeralda and Corsica

Sardinia: Alghero, Costa Smeralda and Corsica

£1,539 pp

Speak of Sardinia and the glamorous scalloped bays of Costa Smeralda spring to mind, but the Mediterranean’s second-largest island has so much more to offer.

sardinia travel agents

  • Discover hidden cultural treasures in the charming traditional villages of inland Sardinia
  • Explore medieval Alghero’s fascinating Catalan heritage on a guided tour
  • Tour Italian-influenced Bonifacio in French Corsica with an expert guide
  • Admire the fabled Costa Smeralda’s picturesque coastal villages
  • Marvel at the Santu Antine nuraghe, one of the thousands of Bronze Age settlements scattered across the island
  • Visit a family-owned wine estate and enjoy a tasting of Sardinia’s excellent wines
  • Enjoy scenic drives with superb views along the breath-taking coast
  • Feast on traditional Sardinian fare at a family-run agriturismo, a rural restaurant serving dishes made with fresh, local produce

A closer look reveals delightful surprises at every turn: an exhilarating thousand-mile coastline of translucent sea, white sands and hidden coves; a long history as diverse and fantastic as its rugged landscapes; and a unique identity that is familiar yet distinct from mainland Italy. Further inland away from the bustling coast is a very different yet perhaps more intriguing and authentic side to Sardinia: immaculate beaches give way to undulating countryside, cloaked in forests of cork oak in the uplands, and swathed in myrtle and olive on the lower slopes. Tucked away are sleepy towns and villages, where you’ll catch enticing glimpses of local life and centuries-old traditions.

Day 1: Arrive in Cannigione

Arrive at the airport for your flight to Olbia or Alghero. On arrival, we transfer by coach to the coastal town of Cannigione, where we stay for three nights with dinner. Nestled in the Gulf of Arzachena on the Costa Smeralda, the hotel is a short walk from the beach and close to a number of cafés and shops.

Day 2: Introduction to Costa Smeralda

This morning we explore the dazzling Costa Smeralda, perhaps the best-known corner of Sardinia and yet completely unlike anywhere else on the island. In the 1960s, the Aga Khan hand-picked this very spot to carve out a corner of paradise.

Today its main town, Porto Cervo, is an exclusive playground for the fabulously well-heeled and famous, and its pristine appearance and pale colour palette are a result of strict building regulations. There’s a fascinating juxtaposition between the rugged and refined – the naturally rocky coastline is populated by gleaming yachts and designer boutiques.

To introduce the Costa Smeralda’s more serene side, we pass through a selection of its most charming villages, where we’ll see locals going about their day in attractive squares and green spaces. Later this afternoon, you will have time to further explore Cannigione or relax at the hotel.

Day 3: Bonifacio

This morning we drive to Santa Teresa di Gallura on the north coast to take the ferry to Corsica. A highlight of the 50-minute ferry ride are the marvellous views of the grand approach to Bonifacio, located at the southernmost point of Corsica. Much-photographed Bonifacio boasts an expansive citadel, which is perched atop a limestone promontory poised over the glittering harbour and chic marina.

Although Corsica has been a part of France for centuries, there’s a unique local identity with strong Italian influences and Bonifacio certainly has a distinctly Italianate feel, with narrow streets flanked by Genoese tenements. Listen closely to the local dialect, which is based on Ligurian and a legacy of the days when Corsica was under Genoese control. The island’s most famous son, military general Napoleon Bonaparte, was born to a family of Italian origins.

To gain a better understanding of Corsican history and culture, we have a guided tour through Bonifacio’s old town. Afterwards there is free time to soak up the atmosphere and admire the picture-postcard views before we return to Sardinia by ferry.

Please note: ferries between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Bonifacio do not run-in adverse weather conditions. In such an event, an alternative itinerary will be offered.

Day 4: Inland Sardinia & Cork Region

Today we head inland to experience a vastly different side of Sardinia. The landscape is a sun-baked stretch of ‘macchia’ grassland and jagged granite mountains reminiscent of the Dolomites. The air grows ever cooler as we ascend hills covered in dense forests of cork trees – during harvest season, you may notice many have been stripped of their bark for cork production. As much of Italy’s cork is produced in Sardinia, we visit a cork museum to learn about the fascinating production techniques and the many uses of this versatile material.

We will call at a typical Sardinian town where you will have free time for lunch before continuing to Alghero in the Coral Riviera, where we stay for four nights at the four-star Catalunya Hotel. The hotel is well-located just a short walk from the historic centre, filled with lively restaurants serving local specialities and fresh seafood for which Alghero is renowned.

This evening, we are treated to a feast for the senses during dinner at a family-run agriturismo, a converted farmhouse that serves hearty traditional meals made with produce fresh from the farm. The rustic surroundings, eye-catching displays of ancient farming equipment and crackling open fires create a wonderfully authentic atmosphere, perfect for enjoying course after course of Sardinian dishes made with local ingredients – the smells alone will ignite your taste buds!

Day 5: Alghero & wine tasting

One of the island’s most beautiful cities, Alghero is a medieval jewel with an independent spirit and intriguing history. It was founded in the 12th century by the Genoese and seized in 1353 by the Aragonese, who left an indelible mark. Much of the old town’s handsome architecture bears a Spanish appearance and a dialect of Catalan is still spoken here.

Our guided tour takes us the through labyrinthine alleys of remarkably preserved old Alghero, defended by robust walls and four bastions dedicated to famous explorers. We’ll see the 16th-century cathedral, which is primarily Catalan-Gothic apart from its Aragonese portal. You have free time after to wander, enjoy lunch and browse the many shops in the vibrant centre.

Wine tasting This afternoon we drive along the coastline of Alghero, with beautiful views over the sparkling sea, before heading inland towards one of the finest wine-growing areas in Sardinia, producing the prestigious Cannonau and Vermentino wines. Winemaking is an important part of the local economy, so we visit a family-owned wine estate for a tour of the vineyards. Naturally, we enjoy a tasting afterwards.

Day 6: Free day in Alghero

The entire day is at leisure to continue your discovery of magnificent Alghero. Stroll along the lovely beachfront promenade or browse the many shops in town for souvenirs.

Alghero is known for its coral, which is harvested off the coast and transformed into striking jewellery. Perhaps watch the world go by in a café-lined piazza over a delicious ‘seadas’, a cheese-filled pastry drizzled with honey, and a ‘mirto’, a unique Sardinian liqueur made with myrtle berries.

Day 7: Nuraghe & Bosa

Nuraghe This morning we drive through the Valley of the Nuraghi – dotting the verdant countryside are striking conical stone structures called ‘nuraghi’, left by the mysterious Nuragic civilisation.

Much is left to the imagination as little is known about them – perhaps these Bronze Age structures were palaces or forts, or simply domestic dwellings. We stop to examine the impressive Nuraghe Santu Antine with its 17-metre-high tower protected by three bastions.

Bosa Our last stop is Bosa, a picturesque hillside town Bosa, a picturesque hillside town at the mouth of the Temo, Sardinia’s only navigable river. You have free time to discover this quintessential Sardinian town, which exudes great charm with its colourful houses, cobbled alleys and scenic setting.

After a wonderful day of sightseeing, we wind our way along Sardinia’s coast high above the dazzling sea, across a rocky landscape carpeted by Mediterranean plants, and are rewarded with a superb view of the beautiful coastline, before returning to the hotel for our final night on this incredible island.

The Mediterranean Traveller

Livia and her travel agents partners will share all the secrets of Sicily, Sardinia, and Puglia. You have a single point of contact from planning your trip until your return. Your visit will be adapted to your budget, length of stay, and interests.

Whether you seek chic, charming, or rustic accommodation, we ensure you find all the authenticity and hospitality of your dreams.

Choose us as your personal Sicily, Puglia, and Sardinia travel agency

Livia Lombardi

Livia was born and raised in Florence with Swiss and British origins. After university, she worked in London and Milan. She then arrived in Sicily thanks to a chance encounter and love for a Sicilian (!).

Her meeting with Tururi Tours first and then with Trinakria allowed her to use her international experience to help guests discover Sicily, Sardinia, and Puglia.

She lives in Palermo with her family (the Sicilian and three children!). With ever greater passion and enthusiasm, she is the leader of this project for the French, Italian and English-speaking.

Boris Bonanno | Trinakria Tours

Boris is Sicilian and is the director of Trinakria Tours, a travel agency for Puglia and Sardinia based in Spain, specializing in tailor-made trips to the Mediterranean islands, since 2006, for the Spanish market.

To give you the journey and experience of your dreams

When we travel, we are the first to believe in direct contact and authentic knowledge of places, off the beaten track of mass tourism and this is why we like the idea of being your “local” contact.

We are experts in organizing self-drive tours to Sicily, Sardinia, and Puglia. We offer travel routes to these destinations, which we know and love. We design trips to immerse you in the region’s history and the life of its inhabitants at your own pace and with complete independence. Of course, you will want to visit the must-see sites …, but perhaps you would like to get off the beaten track and discover a lesser-known historical or natural site!

We are committed to offering you a selection of farmhouses, bed and breakfasts, charming hotels, and a car to get around. The rest is up to you: the duration of your stay, the dates of departure, the style of accommodation, and, if you wish, choosing among our many themed options (local wine tasting, cooking classes with locals, trekking on Etna, street food experience, city guides or archaeological sites, etc.).

We offer authentic and relaxing holidays with direct contact with local cultures and travel on the principle of sustainable tourism .

More than 10 years of experience in tourism outside the box

Livia is a travel designer who plans your trip according to your wishes and her experience. Tururi Tours ,  a travel agency for Sicily, and Trinakria Tours , a travel agent for Puglia and Sardinia guarantee the trip . These  two tour operators have twenty years of experience in tailor-made travel and sustainable tourism, adhering to the guarantee funds (SGR: registration no. 3373; and AXA Seguros Generales: policy number 72973211).

We are specialists in tailor-made tours in the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean is our common thread. Sicily, Sardinia, and Puglia are still untouched places we thoroughly know because we are “locals.” Our trip planners are happy to share the beauty of these islands and places of cultural interest. Our goal is to make you discover the local culture and traditions and make your holidays an unforgettable memory.

We answer all your questions ASAP

Do you have a question or a change in the choice of your destination? Do not hesitate to contact us; you will always have the same point of contact, and we will answer you by phone or email within 24/48 hours on working days. Before, during, and after the trip, you can reach us anytime by email, telephone, or Whatsapp. Even if we have no contact during your journey, it can be reassuring to know that you have someone to contact to resolve potential problems.

We personally select all the hotels we offer

We bring Sicily, Sardinia, and Puglia to life authentically and originally, carefully and personally selecting accommodation facilities where the quality of the welcome and human warmth are key . We do “scouting” annually to discover new accommodations and test and maintain our relationships with on-site partners.

Our car rental agency is Top Premium

We have worked for 15 years with Maggiore Rent (now Avis Group ), a very reliable and well-known car rental in Italy. We have special “all inclusive” rates : unlimited mileage, second driver, STK = total elimination of the damage (SKO) and theft (STP) excess; airport taxes, road taxes (tolls excluded), second driver.

We give you a Travel Book

We prepare a Travel Book full of practical and helpful information based on your destinations to help you prepare for your trip and make the most of it.

Family of Irish hiker, 39, found dead in Sardinia thank people for their support

sardinia travel agents

The family of a 39-year-old Irish hiker whose body was found on the Italian island of Sardinia last Sunday have said they “will be forever grateful” for the support and love they have been shown.

John Bergin, went missing while on a family holiday with three of his brothers and his sister on Friday afternoon last.

Today's top videos

Story continues below.

Mr Bergin had been living and working in Dublin in recent years but is originally from Kilkenny.

John went missing while on a family holiday with three of his brothers and his sister on Friday afternoon last. His body was found in a remote area following an extensive search.

His family in a statement thanked the Emergency Services and Irish Embassy for all their assistance.

The Bergin family said ‘we will be forever grateful for the support and love shown to us by the Sardinian people in the past few days’

The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.

Their statement continued: ‘The Bergin family would like to thank the mountain rescue, the emergency services, the helicopter pilots, the drone operators, the Carbinierie, the police force, the Irish Embassy, the search dogs, and the medical team who helped with the search, found our brother John and took care of him.

‘We also thank the La Ginestra agency. We will be forever grateful for the support and love the Sardinians have shown us these past few days.

According to the newspaper L’unione Sarda emergency services believe Mr Bergin lost his way along the track on the third stage of the Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara mining trail, between Masua and Cala Domestica.

The trail which is 19.3 kilometres long is classed as hard and challenging which runs along the coastline. Some passages, particularly along the panoramic route after passing the Cantina Belvedere, are exposed to falling debris from above. There are 30 stages in total.

Mr Bergin’s body was found by search dogs from the local firefighters canine unit who had been coordinating the search operations for days, also carried out with drones and a helicopter along the side of the Canale di Sa Rocca Niedda.

He was reported missing by his brothers whom he is understood to have separated from to travel along another pathway.

Emergency services scoured the coast on a large scale for a full 48 hours.

The southern-based Cagliari fire brigade set up an Advanced Command Post with a Ucl (local command unit) vehicle to coordinate the teams, operating on-site with Tas (topography applied to rescue) specialists, Saf an alpine and fluvial speleology team, Sapr a remotely piloted aircraft systems unit with drones and a dog unit.

In addition to the ground teams, with off-road vehicles, the national Drago 144 helicopter, which took off from the Alghero base was deployed.

On Saturday the helicopter flew over areas surrounding the search area.

An Italian spokesperson for the emergency services involved said there was an ‘impressive deployment of men and resources that unfortunately, so far, has not achieved the desired result.’

Mr Bergin’s funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
