I now refer my friends, family and colleagues, as well as book all of my tours, accommodation and flights with Maika because I feel very lucky to have finally found an organisation in Asia that gives me the confidence to do so.
The tour was very well organized, and the guide spoke very good English. We got to see and experience so many things: Besides visiting a pagoda and Buddha statue, we also went on a boat ride (with a stop to enjoy a coconut drink) and visited local businesses producing rice paper, conical hats and mats. We had fresh fruit and tea for a snack and Pho soup for lunch which was delicious! We had such a good day and would highly recommend this tour!
We went on this tour, two families of four, with children aged 9-12 years old. We were really happy with it and highly recommend. Lin was our guide and she was fantastic, would really do a trip with her again. It was nice to do this privately and easy to adjust with Lin if needed. Maika helped us book the accommodation in Can Tho which we really appreciated. Would highly recommend and for sure do again.

You did a great job looking after all of our family of 7. The kids enjoyed all the tours and especially the Mekong cruise …as did we……because the kids were so happy we got to enjoy some time to ourselves too. I would recommend Maika Tours if your thinking of visiting Vietnam!

Shopping in Ho Chi Minh City: What To Buy & Where To Shop
Things to know before shopping in Ho Chi Minh City
Language barriers.
The language barrier when traveling is a big challenge for travel enthusiasts, as you may not understand the voice of your home country or even not speak English. Although Vietnam is an economically developed country, some salespeople do not communicate in English, especially older people.
Cash or Card?
Credit card use is now quite popular in Vietnam and many places accept payments with credit cards or QR codes for payment. However, you should also prepare cash when shopping in Ho Chi Minh City markets as some stalls in the markets only accept cash.
Bargaining when shopping in Ho Chi Minh City
Most of the items on the market in Vietnam do not offer a clear price so you can use it to get a reasonable price. The tactic here is that when the seller talks about the selling price of the product, take the figure equal to 50% of the offer price. You can leave without buying anymore and the seller may accept to sell to you at the price you provide.
Notice about size
Asian clothes are usually smaller in shape than European and American clothes, so make sure to choose large-size clothing and try clothing when shopping in Vietnam before buying. S = Small = Small, size S is understood as small size it is only a little bigger than size XS, for Vietnamese women it is 40 – 45 kg, and for men 50 – 55 kg for Asians, and Vietnamese. In addition, you can add 5 kg per size.
Scam tricks
- Buy high-priced goods, the seller says to challenge the price and force you to pay more than the actual value of the product.
- Scammed to buy low-quality products.
- Some sellers are enticed to buy, if not, they will be intimidated.
- Incorrect refund of excess money to foreign tourists.
What to buy where are the best Shopping Places in Ho Chi Minh City
If you are traveling in Ho Chi Minh City without knowing what to buy, AN Tours Vietnam has some suggestions about shopping, such as buying silk, clothes, shoes, painting, and some handicrafts that are made very carefully.
In addition to Hoi An, where there are many famous tailors and silks, you can still buy silk in Ho Chi Minh City. Silk is considered naturally made from silkworms grown in the manual stages. All the processes are done manually without any mechanical interference. In the past, we often referred to this type of clothing as the king, the upper class. But with the popularity as it is now, it has been widely used by people, just loving them is being. This is also the reason why this fabric is widely used in clothing or accessories and even decorations. Silk is the best choice ever when travelers go shopping in Vietnam. You can take silk sewing clothes and Ao Dai because they are very comfortable.
Places travelers can buy silk in Ho Chi Minh City:
- Soai Kinh Lam Market
- Tan Binh Market
- Phu Tho Hoa Market
- Tran Huu Trang Market
2. Clothes:
Although there are many well-known brands in the world such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Moschino, HM, Zara, etc. have been present in Vietnam, the Vietnamese people still prefer cheap clothes. Many local Vietnamese brands are very popular with foreign tourists because the price is not high but the code pattern is diverse. Tourists who go shopping in Vietnam will be overwhelmed by the variety in the color of clothes and the choice. Some places that sell clothes in Ho Chi Minh City that AN Tours Vietnam suggests:
- Nguyen Trai Street
- Le Van Sy Street
- Huynh Van Banh Street
- Tran Quang Dieu Street
- Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street
- Hanh Thong Tay Market
- An Dong Plaza
- Thu Duc Market
- Saigon Square
- Ben Thanh Market
3. Handicraft:
Crafts (or crafts) are made entirely by hand with the help of simple tools, which are the result of the hands of the craftsman. They demonstrate the beauty of ingenuity, and meticulousness in traditional techniques. It is therefore that craftsmanship art carries several distinct characteristics. Handicrafts are the thing that travelers must buy in Vietnam.

Leather and sandals in Vietnam are made of real leather so the leather material is very durable. Cow leather is the most commonly used leather to make leather shoes in Vietnam. The pores of the cow’s skin are round. Not together and distributed equally. The structure of particles and skin fibers is tight, thin, and light. Easier to preserve than other types of skin. This is also the reason why Vietnamese shoe manufacturers choose cow leather for shoes. Ho Chi Minh City is known for its high-calibre street food at rock-bottom prices. Here we pinpoint some of the strongest contenders for two days of eating, drinking, being merry and not breaking the bank.
Ho Chi Minh City 2 Days In Street Food Saigon Vietnam
“Street food, I believe, is the salvation of the human race,” said the late Anthony Bourdain, a celebrity chef and travel documentarian who had a strong affinity for Vietnam (and hyperbole). Does that make Ho Chi Minh City one of humanity’s great saviours? Despite a flourishing fine dining scene, street food still dominates Vietnam’s biggest city. It’s cliched to say that there are an uncountable number of eateries in a place, but in Ho Chi Minh City this is actually true. There is no way of knowing how many tens of thousands of street stalls and shophouse restaurants there are in this chaotic megacity of 24 districts and 10 million inhabitants. So with just two days to sample the street food, where to even start? Perhaps in District 1 , the (comparably) peaceful eye of the urban storm. Here you’ll find broad boulevards, tropical parks and plenty of sites, museums and activities to keep you busy between meals. Find your base at The Myst Dong Khoi , a modern high-rise design hotel, or nearby Park Hyatt Saigon , an opulent colonial-style retreat in the centre of town. From here, with the Saigon River to the east, street food and family-owned eateries fan out to the west. Address book: - The Myst Hong Khoi: 6-10 Ho Huan Nghiep, Ben Nghe, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City - Park Hyatt Saigon: 2 Cong Truong Lam Son, Ben Nghe, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
Day 1: District 1
Day 2: District 3
Now you’re in the heart of District 3, you can meander along the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal or visit the pretty-in-pink Tan Dinh Church and nearby Le Van Tam Park . Still not full? Why not take a 10-minute ride for a second breakfast with a true Saigonese meal that will surely fill your tummy (and soul)? Head to Cơm Tấm Ba Ghiền , the only com tam eatery and a 2024 Bib Gourmand establishment, known for its steamed broken rice topped with a chunky pork chop marinated in a secret sauce and perfectly grilled over charcoal, along with pickled radish and sweet and sour fish sauce.
Prioritising depth over breadth, Joshua Zukas writes almost exclusively about Vietnam. He’s particularly at home covering stories that subvert people’s expectations in a country awash with stereotypes. This has taken him deep into the countryside where sustainable tourism projects safeguard landscapes, centuries-old villages where artisans are modernising their traditional crafts, and the creative studios of Vietnam’s most progressive biophilic architects.
