BroadwayWorld's got a first look at the North American tour of Six , the new musical by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss . The tour of Six will launched with a return engagement of the show to Chicago at Broadway In Chicago's CIBC Theatre from now through July 3.

BOW DOWN TO THE QUEENS OF SIX

The second hottest fire to burn through Chicago since 1871 was last night, center stage at the CIBC Theatre, and is now playing there for the next four months before heading on tour to other realms. The powerful queens of  Six are back, celebrating their collective coronation national tour royal debut. Electrifying, energetic, enigmatic, sexy, sassy and cheeky, this show is 90 minutes of celebration through song. No boring or dry history lesson, these bold performers — six powerful vocalists who educate and empower — are here to slay. From the first moment these women take to the stage, a ravenous audience was ready to devour. “Divorced, beheaded, died. Divorced, beheaded, survived.” Let the thunderous applause began.

Six the Musical gained both worldwide recognition and momentum during the Covid-19 shutdown due to a popular streaming cast recording and dozens of YouTube videos. Some official, some not. The most popular was the Official London Theatre’s Six The Musical – Worldwide Cast performing Ex-Wives/Six with Queendom  featuring performances from dozens of members of the original West End, Australian, Broadway and UK Tour casts, edited together with clips of hundreds of fans. This video has almost five hundred thousands views as of this writing. Everyone is ready with anticipation to experience this live.

Originally written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss while they were both studying at Cambridge University,  Six  first premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017. It was the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre that first introduced this production to the United States in 2019. This in-demand debut broke existing box office records and was the hottest ticket in Chicagoland that summer. All six of the actresses, Adrianna Hicks, Andrea Macasaet, Abby Mueller, Brittney Mack, Samantha Pauly and Anna Uzele, went on to play the same roles on Broadway. It should be noted, the Broadway production was set to officially open March 12, 2020, the same day all of Broadway shut down because of the pandemic. Two years later,  Six  is now debuting the “Aragon Tour” here in the Windy City.

This highly entertaining and empowering new musical’s unique take on history has received world-wide recognition and has generated a new legion of fans with the apt moniker “The Queendom”. The purple carpet opening night spotted many a fan in full character cosplay. Sincerely, all in attendance were amped, ready to celebrate.

The show itself is an  American Idol -inspired vocal competition between the half-dozen wives of Henry VIII. Each queen telling her side of the story, squarely from her point of view. Something that has been lost throughout history, or make that “herstory”. The contest winner would then be elected by audience applause as to who actually had it the worst being one of Henry’s brides. Without a monotonous diatribe, each queen is loosely based on a contemporary pop diva. First wife, Catherine of Aragon (Khaila Wilcoxon) is a bold Beyoncé wannabe getting her ladies in “Reformation.” Sexy and saucy Anne Boleyn (Storm Lever) a JLo-like vain, self-promoting, scene stealer. The Celine Dion meets Adele power ballad belter, Jane Seymour (Jasmine Forsberg) plays the “only one he truly loved”. “RUDE!”

Brazen Anna of Cleves (Olivia Donalson) a Nikki Minaj meets Cardi B monarch with her own money, mind and point of view. Katherine Howard (Didi Romero) ponytail borrowed straight off the head of reigning pop princess Ariana Grande, and facing the real world victimization of tabloid and pop-chart star, Britney Spears. Finally, the level-headed Catherine Parr (Gabriela Carrillo) a self-assured, self actualized, Alicia Keys type. Each woman having the opportunity to sing a solo tailored to her own unique yet soaring vocals. It is a sextet of lead singers, each commanding the stage and more importantly, the narrative. Every original song a toe-tapping banger and potential (fingers crossed) Grammy and Tony Award-winner. Nominations are all but guaranteed.

Not only are the show’s central performers all female, so are their musicians, known affectionately here as “The Ladies in Waiting”. Jo Ann Daugherty is the conductor and pianist, Janetta Goines plays bass, Rose Laguana on guitar and drummer Paige Durr supply the addictive rhythms and pulsing heartbeat of this show’s score. Blending a traditional pop concert feel with a genuine theatrical production, this historically accurate romp is, simply put, THE show to see.

As for the creative team, Gabriella Slade’s eye-popping costumes, a blend of Judy Jetson meets Lady Gaga pop perfection, sequins and sparkles, corsets and fishnets, with subtle hints to traditional Tudor elements, is a well-deserved Tony nomination for Best Costuming also just waiting to happen. Emma Bailey’s scenic design and Tim Deiling’s lighting is intrinsically blended with remarkable tailored perfection with lighting matching the color costumes of each soloist, creating a visual rainbow delight of epic proportion. Carrie-Anne Ingrouille’s powerful and crisp choreography is a sure fire hit — bold, powerful, contemporary, true and pure athleticism on display. Any of the aforementioned powerful visual artists still touring should be giving Ingrouille a call to consult.

I was able to speak with show co-creator Toby Marlow briefly at the show’s conclusion on opening night. Marlow was absolutely thrilled by the Windy City’s audience’s reception. Marlow’s creative partner, Lucy Moss, wasn’t able to attend the “Royal Opening Night” as she is currently directing a production of  Legally Blonde in London at the Regent’s Park Open Air. Six is directed by Jamie Armitage and Moss. It is of note that Moss is now the youngest women ever to direct a musical on Broadway. Breaking glass ceilings on stage and off, Six the Musical  is a breath of fresh air right in time for spring in Chicago. My royal decree, get thee to the CIBC Theatre immediately!  Six  is too hot to miss!

DETROIT – One of Broadway’s most electric musicals is returning to the Fisher Theater in January for a quick run of shows.

The Tony-winning show “SIX” will play from Jan. 7-12 at the Fisher Theater. Tickets go on sale Friday, Sep. 20 and will be available online at BroadwayInDetroit.com.

For those unfamiliar, “SIX” tells the story of the six wives of Henry VIII and how they ended up married to one of England’s most infamous kings.

It sounds a little bit like “Hamilton,” but the wives’ stories are told through the lens of a pop concert. Each wife embodies a famous pop diva (Catherine of Aragon has Beyoncé energy, for example), and sings an epic pop anthem about how Henry wronged them.

It’s a quick 90-minute show with no intermission, and it’s one of the most fun nights you will ever have at the theater.

There are only a few performances during this limited run at the Fisher Theater, so tickets will be a hot commodity to get. Make sure you are ready pm Friday, Sep. 20 to get those tickets.

“SIX” currently run on Broadway in New York City and on the West End in London.

Matt Wallace prevails in play-off to claim victory in Crans Montana

Matt Wallace had to battle hard to earn his first DP World Tour title in six years after needing a play-off to defeat Alfredo Garcia-Heredia at the 2024 Omega European Masters .

The Englishman showed his class at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club by being the only player to be blemish-free after the first two rounds to lead by four heading into the weekend.

Brutal winds on Moving Day meant only three players in the field carded under par rounds, but Wallace negotiated the elements to maintain his four-shot advantage despite a three-over 73.

He endured a nervy final round, coming home in level par, while his Spanish playing partner produced a brilliant approach to birdie the last and force the sixth play-off of the campaign after both players finished at 11 under.

They found the fairway to start the extra hole before landing on the green with their second shots. Garcia-Heredia pushed his lengthy birdie putt left of the cup while Wallace had eight feet, which he drained with confidence to get back in the winner's circle.

It is the fifth DP World Tour crown of his career, but his first victory since the 2018 Made In Denmark which came six years and six days ago.

"Knackered, that was a hard day," an emotional Wallace said. "It wasn't easy, but I felt there was a score out there but couldn't get anything going.

"Good drives then mess it up, the ninth I messed that up to take an advantage into the back nine. I just kept pushing and pushing.

"It was bringing back memories of two years ago when I lost, I wasn't quite focused then but that's focus for me right there. I'm buzzing.

"I had the lead and I could have easily lost it a few times in the last couple of days, especially yesterday with how hard it was playing. But I stuck at it and that's me, and that's golf. For me, that's Matt Wallace golf right there."

Wallace wanted a quick start but he was up against a tree after a wayward tee shot and despite being inches away from chipping in for a remarkable par, he slipped back to ten under after the opening hole.

The lead remained at four though as Garcia-Heredia also bogeyed the first to slip back to six under alongside fellow playing partner Andrew Johnston, who opened with a par.

Pars proved valuable for Wallace as he stayed four ahead as Garcia-Heredia returned to the chasing pack with a birdie at the sixth, after he had bogeyed the fourth, while home favourite Cedric Gugler eagled the seventh and Australian Jason Scrivener birdied the same hole to make it four players at six under.

Wallace returned to level par for the day after his birdie at the seventh, which Johnston followed suit from short range to be on his own in second at seven under but still four shots behind.

This was cut to three when Johnston rolled in a delightful putt from 17 feet for back-to-back gains after Wallace missed the right edge of the cup with his birdie effort.

The English pair found trouble off the ninth tee, which led to Johnston carding his first dropped shot of the day, however, Wallace battled to a par to restore his four-shot advantage at the turn.

Johnston immediately responded by draining another long birdie putt at the tenth to return to eight under to trim the deficit before mist from the Swiss Alps descended on the course.

That held up proceedings for a short period before Garcia-Heredia and Gugler birdied the 12th and 14th respectively to join Johnston three shots behind the leader.

Wallace was stuck behind a tree after his tee shot at the 14th before scrambling to a par, while Garcia-Heredia and Johnston just missed eagle putts to cut the gap to two at nine under.

The challenging pair reached double figures for the first time at the 15th, but Wallace hit back with only his second birdie of the day to maintain his two-shot initiative.

However, a wayward tee shot into the par-three 16th saw Wallace slip back to 11 under and his advantage was down to one.

At the 17th, Garcia-Heredia and Johnston narrowly missed lengthy birdie putts which would have drawn them level with the leader who also parred the penultimate hole.

Garcia-Heredia hit a magical approach to five feet while Wallace and Johnston went safe into the final green. Johnston's lengthy birdie putt pulled up agonisingly short and Wallace missed the right edge with his tournament-winning effort.

The Spaniard found the cup with his birdie putt to force a play-off before Wallace prevailed at the first time of asking with a calm eight-foot gain on the first extra hole.

Johnston was in sole third at ten under, while Gugler delighted the home fans with a share of fourth after bouncing back from a bogey at the second with an eagle and two birdies to join Scrivener at eight under.

Alex Fitzpatrick and Dutchman Joost Luiten were one shot further back, while Sweden's Henrik Norlander, South African Casey Jarvis, Japan's Rikuya Hoshino and Italian Guido Migliozzi finished at six under.

The pop star donned a satin blue halter-style dress and white ballet flats for her friend’s nuptials to Lee Foster, who is the owner of the Greenwich Village recording studio.

As for Dufrene, he sported a blue suit with a white button-up shirt and brown dress shoes.

Del Rey wasn’t seen with her BFF Taylor Swift — despite the 14-time Grammy winner arriving at the ceremony earlier in the day with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

Del Rey and Dufrene first sparked romance rumors when they were seen holding hands at the Reading & Leeds Festival in the UK last month, per an Instagram video.

According to the Daily Mail, the duo made a pit stop in London to visit Harrod’s and a bar.

The “West Coast” singer and Dufrene’s history dates back to March 2019 when she took one of his Airboat Tours by Arthur cruises while visiting Louisiana for the BUKU Music + Art Project festival.

At the time, Dufrene documented meeting the hitmaker on Instagram, writing, “I never know who I can run across on my tours but always a pleasure @lanadelrey.”

Del Rey also commemorated the trip with a picture posted via Facebook, captioning it, “Jeremy lemme be captain at Arthur’s Air Boat Tours x.”

The pair seemingly met up once again when the 11-time Grammy nominee took another one of Dufrene’s tours in May.

“Family w my guy @jeremy.dufrene,” Del Rey captioned a snap of herself with two pals.

Last week, Del Rey seemingly denied she Dufrene and were dating after a fan account shared additional details about her “latest boyfriend.”

Per People, Dufrene has a son and two daughters.

The “Radio” singer was last rumored to be dating musician Jack Donoghue in 2022 and musician Clayton Johnson in 2020.
