I love these offers…I did not get one…perhaps because I got one in October and used it. 😕

Can it be used when booking with an NCL representative, i.e. Casinos at Sea?

Any purchases through NCL, excursions, fares, taxes, anything that is charged through NCL.

Mine was spend $1,000 get 25,000 points.  I pre-paid my tips, upgraded our wifi (as I'd planned) and purchased an onboard credit to get to $1,000.  Love bonus points on spend I would have done anyway.  Check your authorized users' cards as well - this is the fourth NCL offer we've had across all our cards.

We get them at different times. There was a very good offer very recently.

I seen there was an offer at the start of the year for UK people. I hope there will be another offer soon. Maybe start of next month? 🤞

I didn’t see this one yet.

Same with me. Guess they know we'll use it again! Worth mentioning, despite saying it only qualifies via NCL phone agent/NCL.com, almost any travel agent bills the same way and the offer should apply. I've also been told if you already have a cruise booked, you can add $1k of OBC and get it refunded on another card at the end of the trip.

I don't have the offer yet (hoping it comes soon) but does anyone know if onboard spend counts?

I have never gotten this offer across 3 cards 😞 . My offers are usually something like 1 extra point per dollar spent on Crocs.

Haha

They normally follow about 4-8 week after the US here, I check regularly on all our Amex.

I had an offer at the end of the year spend 1000 get 350 back and I combined that with the promo NCL was running when you could use 3 CN on a balcony. That final payment is coming due so hoping an offer will appear on 1 of my AMEX cards again which would be super nice.

I’ve found that none of our Delta cards offer this. We have only gotten it on our Green card and Everyday card.

I have the Plat (travel benefits), the Blue Preferred (Groceries and Streaming), and Delta Reserve (MQMs, Upgrade tie breaker, and companion ticket), I did get a Celebrity offer on one of them once but nothing for NCL. My Delta one has a spend $500 and get $150 back on Delta which is pretty good 🙂 .

Cool Cruiser

Thanks for the heads up. I got it in my Amex Gold.

Dang…just checked our Delta Reserve and no offer.  Would have liked that as we have upcoming need to book flights.

Often these offers are only available on AMEX cards that offer Membership Rewards points -- as opposed to co-branded cards like the AMEX Delta cards that provide rewards in the form of Delta Skypesos.  Oops, I mean Skymiles.

Checked, and I don't have it on my card. We are past final payment, but I was considering buying OBC, and then using a different card while onboard.

I haven't seen any discount yet. I have the Hilton AE & Delta Gold Card AE. Any ideas where I should look?

If you have an online account for either, look at the bottom of your homepage. There should be a few offers plus see all 100. Click on see all 100. You do not need to go through the entire 100 since there will also be subcategories. One of the subcategories is travel. Click on that, and it will either be there or not be there.

Thanks

I have the offer -- spend $1000 get 25,000 rewards points.

If I purchase $1000 on board credit and don't spend it all, can I get it refunded or do I lose it?  Trying to figure out a way to hit the $1000 threshold as I'm cruising in July and have already prepaid for the cruise.

I once bought OBC the same way for a HAL cruise and was also worried about not using it all. Would AMEX claw back the reward? Then DW told me she wanted the most expensive excursion about Anne of Green Gables, and I no longer had to worry about spending it all.

But, one way some have said you can get around this is if you have a different card, use that other card for your onboard spending.

Earn Bonus Rewards On Norwegian Cruise Line

' src=

If you’re looking for a cruise, also note, these offers work by going directly to the cruise line or you can stack them with exclusive offers from a Travel Agent. When booking through a reputable travel agent , your card is charged directly by the cruise line, not the agency. This allows you to stack any onboard credits or promotions with the American Express promo.

Do note that Online travel agencies like Costco Travel, Amex Travel or Expedia do not qualify. It has to be a mom and pop like travel agency. Why? Because Travel agents have direct access to the cruise line booking programs. Therefore your credit card doesn’t know the difference between Scott & Thomas Travel booking on Norwegian Cruise Line or a NCL agent booking on their own cruise line.

Are you in need of a travel agent? Reach out to me today . I can not only help you find the perfect cruise, but I can help save you time and money !

Current Amex Offer, Norwegian Cruise Line Deal

The current offer provides American Express Gold card holders with 25,000 bonus Membership Rewards points for spending $1,000. Membership Reward points are valued around 2 cents a piece when redeeming through partners. This equates to $500 in value! Or 50% back. The current promo is good through July 24, 2023.

Big Buildings, Night Markets, and Cats in Taipei

If you have multiple users, check all your accounts. You may have multiple offers. Last year each of my authorized users had a deal where if we spent $1,000 on a Seabourn Cruise, we received $400 cash back. The offer was on ALL 4 cards and I saved $1,600 on our Seabourn cruise. All while stacking my travel agency offer of $200 onboard credit for each room. A double win!

Bonus Deal for Norwegian Cruise Line

When you select to book through me, instead of going directly to the cruise line, not only will you still earn your 25,000 bonus membership rewards but you will also get any promo that is currently available for Norwegian cruise line. PLUS an exclusive onboard credit! Use it at the bar, towards an excursion, or at the spa! Who doesn’t love free money!?

a table with text and numbers

Any deal you find on Norwegian Cruise line, we can meet and beat with the onboard credit offer, not available when booking online or via Norwegian Cruise line.

NCL deal

Bottom line

Traveling is making a roaring comeback and cruiselines want to see you back onboard. If you book your cruise adventure through Amex Travel or Costco travel these deals will not apply. But when you use a personalized travel agent , your credit card is charged by the travel operator, not the agency. This allows you to stack both agent specific deals with Amex offers. Maximizing your ROI.

There are several deals available right now, no matter where in the world you may want to go. Both at hotel and resorts and cruise lines. If you’re looking for an expedition or a vacation check out these amazing deals. Most are only available when using a travel agent.

  • $6,500 fares to Antarctica. BOGO
  • Emerald and Scenic River and Ocean Voyages BOGO
  • 30% OFF Antaractica – Save $5,000-10,000 per person with Nat Geo & Lindblad Expeditions
  • BOGO Expeditions to Antarctica, Canary Islands & Galapagos with Hurtriguten .
  • 20% off the Arctic + free wifi with Nat Geo
  • Kids go 100% on Select Sailings  – Nat GEO & Lindblad
  • 30% Seabourn Alaska 2023 sailings starting from $2,250 pp
  • No Solo Supplement Deals  – Lindblad
  • No Solo Supplement Hurtriguten

Enjoy exclusive deals on hotels or cruises, but only when using a travel agent and always be sure to stack your savings!

Spending on the Ship

Spending on the Ship

For your convenience, all shipboard expenses are charged to your Onboard account. Sign up when you check in, establishing your method of payment with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB Card, Diner's Club. You may also use your debit card however please be advised that we obtain pre-authorisation, as we do for all Credit Cards, and some banks hold these funds for up to 30 days. The maximum initial pre-authorisation amount for all credit and debit cards is $300. Cash can also be used as a method of payment to settle your account with an initial deposit paid in advance.

Using your debit or ATM card

  • Norwegian does not recommend the use of a debit card as payment for your onboard folio.
  • Please be advised that multiple holds will be placed on your debit card account based on your onboard purchases.
  • After settling your onboard folio, these debit card holds may remain on your account up to 30 days after the cruise ends.
  • To avoid overdraft charges from your bank, please make sure that you have enough available funds in your account during this hold period.
  • Norwegian will not be responsible for overdraft charges resulting from holds placed on Debit Card accounts.

Traveller's Check / Cash Procedures

A cash deposit may be placed on your onboard account in the following amounts:

7 day cruises - $300 USD per person Less than 7 days - $150 USD per person More than 7 days - $450 USD per person

5 day cruises or longer - $300 USD per person Norwegian Sky & Norwegian Sun's 3- and 4-Day Sailings - $150 USD per person 1- and 2-Day Cruises - $100 USD per person

Once you have exceeded the deposited amount, your account will be closed to further charges. You can deposit as much money as often as you'd like throughout the cruise, however, refunds cannot be made until the day of disembarkation for any excess.

**Personal checks will not be accepted, nor can they be cashed on board.

Why is there a service charge? The reason there's a fixed service charge is an important one: Our Crew (as are the crew from other lines) are encouraged to work together as a team. Staff members including complimentary restaurant staff, stateroom stewards and behind-the-scenes support staff are compensated by a combination of salary and incentive programmes that your service charge supports.

How much are the service charges?

For bookings made on or after January 1, 2023:

  • $25.00 USD per person per day for The Haven and Suites;
  • $20.00 USD per person per day for Club Balcony Suite and below;

For bookings made before January 1, 2023, that pre-pay their service charges before their sail date:

  • $20.00 USD per person per day for The Haven and Suites;
  • $18.00 USD per person per day for Club Balcony Suite;
  • $16.00 USD per person per day for all other stateroom types

For bookings made on or after April 1, 2022, that prepay their service charges before their sail date:

For bookings made on or after April 1, 2020, that prepay their service charges before their sail date:

  • $18.50 USD per person per day for The Haven and Suites;
  • $15.50 USD per person per day for all other stateroom types

Guests sailing to Hawaii will be charged an additional 4.275% Pre Paid Service Charge GET Tax

Are service charges across the board for all guests? All guests 3 years or older.

How do I prepay my service charges? Contact your travel professional and request that it be added to your cruise reservation. If you have not made final payment this will be included in your final payment amount or if final payment has already been made we will require full payment at the time it is added.

At what point in the booking process can the prepaid charges be added? They can be added at anytime up to 24 hours prior to sailing.

Why would I prepay my service charges? The convenience of pre-paying the service charges allows you to plan your budget prior to your cruise giving you additional freedom whilst on board.

If I cancel my cruise are the service charges refundable? Yes! The service charges are 100% refundable.

If there is a service issue can the service charges be adjusted on board? Guest satisfaction is the highest priority at Norwegian Cruise Line. We have structured a guest satisfaction programme designed to handle any concerns about service or on-board product quickly and efficiently. However, in the event a service issue should arise during your cruise please let our on-board guest services desk staff know right away, so that we can address these in a timely manner. It is our goal to reach a satisfactory solution to any issue when it happens and make sure our guests can focus on enjoying their cruise. Should your concerns not be met with satisfaction you can adjust the charges.

The currency used on board our ships is the U.S. dollar. We've made paying for on-board expenses very easy. When you check in you open a shipboard account by registering a major credit card such as VISA®, MasterCard® or American Express® . If you prefer to pay by cash or traveller's cheques, a suggested deposit for a 7-night cruise is US dollar 300 per person, US dollar 150 per person for cruises up to 6 nights or US dollar 450 per person for cruises of 8 nights and more at check-in (subject to change). Then, you simply sign for your personal expenses as you go and they will be charged to your account.

Important : When your credit card is entered to activate your on-board account, an initial approval is obtained from the bank. Please be advised that some banks may hold the pre-authorisation for up to 30 days. Throughout the voyage incremental holds will be obtained based on your on-board expenditure. This will reduce the amount of available credit on the credit card or restrict the availability of cash in your bank account.

Travellers cheques and most major credit cards are accepted in the ports we visit. Proper ID is required when cashing travellers cheques. We recommend you carry a small amount of local currency when visiting foreign ports, although credit cards are commonly accepted in shops and restaurants.

How to maximize rewards and benefits when booking cruises through AmEx Travel

You'll maximize the rewards and benefits available for your cruise vacation by booking your reservation through AmEx Travel.

Earning vs. redeeming points

American Express Platinum travel cruises earn 2x points on cash reservations. Eligible cardholders can also book American Express rewards cruises using points. Cardholders can redeem points for a portion or all of the cruise cost.

The redemption value of 0.7 cents per point is substantially lower than our average valuation of 2.8 cents each . Due to this low valuation, we recommend saving your points for another redemption and paying cash for your cruise.

Compare credits and amenities among cruise lines

With so many participating cruise lines, travelers have many options available. In some cases, the prices are similar among different lines.

Compare onboard credits and amenities offered to find the best value, even if it means paying a little more upfront.

Waived cancellation fees

AmEx Travel does not charge cancellation or change fees if you need to adjust your reservations. However, the cruise line may charge penalties depending on when you booked, where you're traveling, how long the cruise is and other factors.

Generally, these fees increase as you get closer to your departure date. Before booking your cruise, review the cruise line’s change and cancellation policies to understand what fees may apply.

American Express: Don't Live Life Without It

Deal alert: Save up to 35% on a cruise with this new Amex offer

Gene Sloan

Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available.

Are you planning to book a Celebrity Cruises voyage for the coming summer or beyond? You might want to do it with an American Express card .

Some American Express cardholders have begun seeing an offer for $175 back when spending $500 or more on a Celebrity cruise.

In other words, if you can find a low-cost Celebrity sailing that adds up to just $500 including taxes and fees — and pay for it with an American Express card — you'll get a whopping 35% of that money back after the transaction posts.

If you book a $1,000 cruise, the $175 in cash back would work out to a 17.5% savings — still a significant amount.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Additionally, you can "double dip" on Celebrity savings with this offer to make it even more lucrative.

The offer can be used in conjunction with a new promotion that Celebrity has out for wave season — the period starting in January when cruise lines often roll out their best offers for the year.

Celebrity's new wave season promotion, called the Semi-Annual Sale , offers 75% off a second adult fare when purchasing a full adult fare. In addition, the line is tacking on additional savings of up to $800 in onboard credit per stateroom (based on sailing length and number of passengers in the cabin).

The Semi-Annual Sale offer is valid through March 1 for most voyages departing through April 30, 2025, and results in some three-night voyages costing as little as $168 per person, not including taxes and fees.

As of early Monday, Celebrity was touting three-, four- and seven-night sailings on its website as part of the sale starting at $168, $219 and $239 per person, not including taxes and fees.

A targeted Amex cruise promotion

Note that the Amex cash-back offer is a targeted promotion, which means not every American Express cardholder will receive it. Also, you must enroll in this specific Amex Offer in order to redeem it.

Other caveats include the stipulation that cardmembers can only enroll in the offer with one American Express card. In addition, the offer is only valid on cruise bookings made online , by calling 844-530-3783 or through a travel agent. Reservations must be booked on U.S. websites only.

The $500 spending threshold excludes money spent for onboard purchases, corporate sales and corporate sales gift cards, physical gift cards purchased online, e-gift cards and art auctions.

In addition, spending for some specialty cruises arranged with outside tour planners such as Tie the Knot cruises and LGBTQ+ Vacaya cruises is excluded from the offer.

The offer is only for the Celebrity brand and not its Royal Caribbean Group sister brands Royal Caribbean and Silversea Cruises .

The offer expires March 31.

The new Celebrity offer is just one of several cruise-related deals that have popped up for American Express cardholders in recent months, although all the previous offers have since expired.

Staffers at TPG in recent months have also received targeted Amex Offers for booking sailings with Oceania Cruises , Carnival Cruise Line , Uniworld River Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Silversea.

Some examples of Amex cards where you might receive the Celebrity offer are:

  • The Platinum Card® from American Express .
  • American Express® Gold Card .
  • The Business Platinum Card® from American Express .

In recent days, several TPG staffers who carry American Express cards received this offer. In addition, one TPG staffer with an American Express Gold Card received a variation of the offer that brought 35,000 American Express Membership Rewards points after spending $1,000 with Celebrity.

To find out if you are eligible for the offer, check your American Express card account. If you do see the deal, it's best to add it right away, as it might disappear. Some offers are capacity controlled.

Here's another tip: Only 100 Amex Offers are visible at one time. So, if you're at capacity, add offers to your card and new ones may appear.

Also, don't forget that if you need to fly to or from your cruise port, Amex Travel will give you 5 points per dollar on flights booked directly with airlines (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar) and 5 points per dollar on prepaid hotels booked on Amex Travel.

If you're not an American Express cardholder, you might consider applying for one. The Platinum Card from American Express is offering a welcome bonus of 80,000 Membership Rewards Points after you spend $8,000 on purchases within the first six months of cardmembership.

You may also be eligible for a targeted 125,000-point bonus offer using the CardMatch tool (offers are subject to change at any time).
