A fantastic summer's evening watching this great band from just a few feet from the stage. Fabulous atmosphere with many dressing up and getting right into the theme.

It was our first time seeing Blackmore's Night, travelling from Essex to be there, and worth every mile. Fabulous singing from the amazing Candice together with humour and banter among the band members and Richie's unmistakable skill on the strings of his many guitars... what a great combination!

My husband and I love this band, Paul being a Deep Purple fan since his teens (just a few years ago!).. together with our interest in Medieval times, being sure we've met before sometime long, long ago, possibly under a violet moon?!

We would happily join the roving fan base and see them again, especially in similar settings.

Small venue so special intimacy

Some really sweet notes in particular in the acoustic numbers with Candice and Ritchie.

The band are a very talented group of muso's a special bunch.

Felt fortunate to see as came from Australia and this was an opportunistic booking and got some of the last seats.

Highly recommended

Blackmore's night tickets.

Blackmore's Night is the unique musical Renaissance/Folk/Rock project of Legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and award winning singer/songwriter Candice Night.  Achieving fame as the composer and guitarist for Deep Purple and Rainbow, and writer of rock's national anthem 'Smoke on the Water’ Blackmore always had a  private passion for the bombastic regal music of the Renaissance period. When he teamed up with lyricist Candice Night, he was immediately drawn toward her nature driven lyrics and ethereal vocals, and the duo created their own genre of music, encompassing the melodies of  Renaissance times, but also capturing the romance, passion and chivalry of the  time period.

As  Ritchie became a master of the acoustic guitar, mandolin and mandola, Candice Night also began to expand on their unique musical instrumentations   and is now not only the lead vocalist, but she performs on 7 medieval wood wind instruments during their recordings and live  performances.

Candice Night is also the Princess of the Interactive theme parks Magiquest throughout the USA and Japan and expanding worldwide, and Princess Amora in Great Wolf Lodges where the Blackmore’s Night music is played throughout the amusement centers, as well as the Queen of the Faerie Festivals where the Blackmore’s Night music is spread to more female and family oriented groups.

In 1997 the group debuted with ‘Shadow of the Moon’ and achieved instant  gold record status.

The innocence and purity of their music attracted fans worldwide and many gold records and awards later they perform with their 6 piece Minstrel  Band to sold out venues in castles, UNESCO sites and historic theaters  world wide.

Celebrating their 15th anniversary, Blackmore's Night has become synonymous with ‘fantasy’ music and their unique style and multi-talented musicians-have earned them  several ‘Best album of the year’ awards, coveted spots on PBS throughout the USA, music video awards, high chart positions world wide, and many gold albums, and a gold DVD for Germany on Castles and Dreams.  Their studio CD  ‘Secret Voyage’ rode  high in the Billboard New Age Charts (top 10 for 61 weeks).  Secret  Voyage was  voted the Best Celtic  Album of the Year by New Age Reporters and NPR stations.  Their last studio CD Autumn Sky - named for Ritchie and Candice's baby girl - debuted at number 1 on the Billboard New Age charts and remained in the top 10 for over 40 weeks.  They were  awarded gold record status for this CD also and it was voted Number 1 Vocal  album of the Year.

2009 also saw one of the Blackmore’s Night songs featured in the new Jim Carrey  Movie “Yes Man...”

Yet this amazing group still finds time to donate many of their performances to no kill animal shelters, and saving endangered species throughout their  tours

Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night have created a new genre of music for all ages, inspired by many melodies of the Renaissance period, and "Blackmoreized" into contemporary music. This is the sound of Blackmore's Night.

In 1997, Blackmore's Night released their debut CD, Shadow of the Moon, which immediately went gold in Japan and earned awards worldwide. Meanwhile, their devoted fan base is growing exponentially as the band has created a genre of music for all ages. From grandparents to children, everyone has their medieval mood music and gypsy dances. Clearly the music of Blackmore's Night connects with fans on a deep level, allowing them to experience an entirely different era of merriment.

At the helm of this band, is award winning lyricist and vocalist, Candice Night, who not only contributes her unique, entrancing vocals, but deftly navigates seven medieval woodwinds, including chanters, shawms, pennywhistles and recorders. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and celebrated guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore, who traverses between acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, mandola and hurdy gurdy.

Further enhancing the band's inspired sound are keyboardist/back-up vocalist Bard David, Violinist, Scarlett Fiddler, back up vocalist/rhythm guitar, Lady Jessie , bassist/rhythmic guitarist Earl Grey, and percussionist Troubadour of Aberdeen. With lyrics penned by Night, the collective embraces the aura of the old world inn, from madrigals and ballads to good old fashioned Renaissance-inspired pub songs.

Additionally, every one of Blackmore's Night's studio CD (11 in total) has debuted in the top 2 of the Billboard charts, many of which entered or remained at the number 1 spot. They have earned Awards such as "Best Album of the Year", "Best Vocal Album of the Year" and their sold-out concerts in castles and UNESCO sites worldwide are filled with thousands of fans dressed in Renaissance garb, dancing and singing as if time stood still. No clocks...no pressure...just the gaiety and camaraderie of a medieval pub. Everyone joins in and loses their stress in the music.

Laurence Todd

Ritchie Blackmore made his name, not just as a guitar God in the late sixties and throughout the seventies with Deep Purple and Rainbow – but also through his rep for headstrong, divisive and arrogant behaviour, someone prepared to walk out on any band if things aren’t to his liking. But for the last few decades, alongside inamorata Candace Night, he’s been pursuing a completely different path in Blackmore’s Night, which is a radical departure from the hard rock he’d been previously known for.

Blackmore’s Night was an attempt at fusing Blackmore’s rock leanings with romantic medieval sounds, added to which was the lyrical imagination of Candace, to create something uniquely different, which meant no wailing guitar hysterics or tangents. You want ‘Child In Time’ (Deep Purple)? No Chance. What you will get, apart from a few synth keyboards and the occasional electric guitar break, is just Blackmore playing some delightful acoustic guitar, alongside other medieval instruments like the Hurdy Gurdy, as an accompaniment to some occasionally quite beautiful melodies. They weren’t the first band to do this .. The Amazing Blondel preceded them by three decades .. but they were probably the most high profile, and twenty-five years on, they’re still out there doing it.

Shadow Of The Moon was originally released in 1997 and is now being reissued, after being fully, ‘lovingly restored, remastered and remixed,’ and includes two previously unreleased acoustic recordings, ‘ Shadow Of The Moon’ and ‘ Spirit Of The Sea’ , both recorded during a home session in 2022. The 2022 version of ‘ Spirit Of The Sea’ is only half the length of the original but no less gorgeous. On both songs, Candace’s voice 25 years on sounds slightly deeper but she’s still able to match the beauty of the originals.

The sound is richer and more enhanced and the atmosphere evoked and the music has the feel of medieval travelling minstrels and gipsies spreading tales of legend and folklore. It’s well played and tuneful, with the vocals of Candace Night quite gorgeous. Tracks like ‘Wish You Were Here’ (not the Floyd song) and ‘Magical World’ are fine pop/folk songs. ‘Ocean Gypsy,’ originally performed by Renaissance, is covered lovingly, and ‘Greensleeves’ is the original folk song, not the 16th-century version covered by Rainbow. When the electric guitars are used, as on ‘No Second Chance’ and ‘Writing On The Wall’, it’s used sparingly to enhance rather than submerge the song. There‘s even the addition of prog legend Ian Anderson, the original minstrel in the gallery, performing instantly recognisable flute duties on ‘Play Minstrel Play’ , and his presence is welcome on anything I listen to. And if anyone was in any doubt, the three short acoustic instrumentals, ‘Minstrel Hall’, ‘Memmingen’ and ‘Mond Tanz’ clearly prove Blackmore can more than hold his own on this instrument.

Anyone approaching Shadow Of The Moon with an open mind .. even better, forget there’s a bona fide 1970s guitar hero on the album .. will find a delightful listening experience, with some beautiful melodies which evoke a warm ambience, and music described by Candace Night as ‘feel good, soul searching music.’ Credit to Blackmore for daring to try something radically different from the genre where he built his rep.

Careful careful Uwe. One day a photo may appear with you visible in the audience. Now that would be interesting especially if you relented & finally decided to don the garb. I would pay a substantial sum for a ‘genuine’ image. It has to be genuine, no AI or photoshop etc. Any other takers out there? Cheers.

I’m old, no one would notice me being there!

The day you won’t see me at a Ritchie gig is the day I’m dead. So fascinating how he, uhum, “can’t improvise”. I’ve been to ten Blackmore’s Night gigs at least, likely more (15?). You’ll never see me in garb though because I find the late Middle Ages/early Renaissance period rather silly, even more so when cosplayed by largely Americans. I’m not a credible cowboy or Native American either. Who would think that Ritchie, while his pension fund is accruing, would return to his show biz roots of yore?

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/a2/61/5b/a2615ba8f6f470f67f707a227471605a.jpg

And for the record: No Blackmore’s Night performance I’ve seen ever came close to the nadir that was Reunbow’s first gig at Lorelei, when I died a hundred cringe deaths out of shame for what was going on (or not going on) on stage.

I poke fun at Candice all the time here, but she is a more giving, disciplined and focused performer than her husband ever was. She has that “Jewish-Polish-American Princess” work ethic that only doing something with dedication will get you anywhere down pat. For that I respect her.

This is good news. Happy to read about Ritchie touring again. The District Theater (formerly the Wall Street Theater) in Norwalk, CT, is not far and it is a charming, little venue. I saw Glenn Hughes there on Apr 24, 2019, Yngwie Malmsteen on May 6, 2022, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band on May 19, 2022. All excellent shows and great acoustics. Other nice acts like Buddy Guy, etc. also played there not too long ago. I would have likely gone to see Blackmore’s Night on June 23, 2024, but at that time we will be traveling throughout Germany for UEFA EURO 2024. Except for the debacle at Sony Hall in New York, NY on October 30, 2022, where Ritchie walked off stage and did not finish the show due to what the band later described as technical issues, the other Blackmore’s Night shows that I have attended were fun and entertaining. I hope there will be another tour as I do not want the unfinished show of October 30, 2022, to be the last live event that I have attended of my all-time favorite guitar player. Keep on playing, Ritchie.

Ah the garb! The town I live in celebrates an annual festival where lots of us dress that way anyway for a couple of days. So when BN came to our area my boys went along with me all dressed up like in the 16th century… The set up on stage always bemuses me and so does Ritchie’s outfit. But while I find the records a bit kitsch most of the time I enjoy the shows very much. Especially the solos Ritchie does, some of which carry him away … and I will gladly follow. And Candice … I often wondered if anyone can really be that friendly. I guess she can. She even exchanged her paper cup with my boy. It’s all escapism but then again that’s what art is about a lot of times. I enjoyed every single show I attended big time and hope that they will make it to our castles again… And I agree: The last chapter of Rainbow should have remained unwritten.

Just for once, why can’t they play in California? Blackmore, your east-coast arrogance is showing big-time.

I‘d recommend the Hearst Castle as a suitable venue!

Blackmore’s Night returns live, announces second remixed reissue

The group is celebrating more than 25 years together

Legendary guitarist formerly of Deep Purple and Rainbow, Ritchie Blackmore, and award-winning singer Candice Night return to the stage in June and July 2024 in the United States.

“Join us this summer as the mystical fires glow at midnight, to all our friends, fans, Blackmore’s Night Family: grab your tambourine or your tankard of ale, and sing and dance with Blackmore’s Night ‘Under a Violet Moon.’ Let us transport you back in time to a magical evening with music that will brighten your hearts and soul,” state Ritchie Blackmore, Candice Night, and their band of Minstrels.

Blackmore’s Night defines its music as Renaissance folk rock. A unique and original genre of music inspired by the melodies and the tradition of the Renaissance period, “Blackmore-ized” into contemporary music. This is the sound of Blackmore’s Night. And what a success it has been since it all started…

Never intended to be a band thinking about charts and sales, it ended up being one of the most successful acoustic projects of all time, remaining a best[seller] for over 25 years, while maintaining the purity of its original intention intact.

The band’s last album Nature’s Light brought the band back to the German Top 10 at No. 7 and it has reinforced the relationship with the fanbase globally.

In 1997, Blackmore’s Night released their debut CD, Shadow of the Moon , which immediately went gold in Japan and earned awards worldwide.

The album’s reissue, released in 2023 , re-entered the charts in Germany in the Top 20, thanks to a shiny new mix, in a celebration of the music that started the journey for Candice and Ritchie. Meanwhile, their devoted fan base has continued to grow exponentially as the band continues performing their mystical music for all ages. From grandparents to children, everyone is enjoying their medieval mood music and gypsy dances. Clearly, the music of Blackmore’s Night connects with fans on a deep level, allowing them to experience an entirely different era of merriment.

In the age of digital music, new fans discover Blackmore’s Night every day, making the band possibly the most streamed artist of its genre.

At the helm of this band, is award-winning lyricist and vocalist, Candice Night, who not only contributes her unique, entrancing vocals but deftly navigates seven medieval woodwinds, including chanters, shawms, pennywhistles and recorders. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and celebrated guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore, who traverses between acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, mandola, and hurdy gurdy.

Further enhancing the band’s inspired sound are keyboardist/backup vocalist Bard David; violinist, Scarlett Fiddler; backup vocalist/rhythm guitar, Lady Jessie; bassist/rhythmic guitarist Earl Grey; and percussionist Troubadour of Aberdeen.

With lyrics penned by Night, the collective embraces the aura of the old-world inn, from madrigals and ballads to good old-fashioned Renaissance-inspired pub songs.

Every Blackmore’s Night’s studio CD has debuted in the top 2 of the Billboard New Age charts, many of which entered and remained at the No. 1 spot for weeks.

In 2024, the group celebrates the 25th year of their third CD, Fires at Midnight with an anniversary edition coming from earMUSIC. As with the debut album, the music has been remixed from the original multi-track masters for a new sonic experience.

In addition, Candice Night has been working intensely on personal and intense solo music, which will be pure joy for anybody who has loved Blackmore’s Night.

Blackmore's Night

Sony hall, new york city, ny. sunday, october 30th., ritchie blackmore storms offstage at sony hall, ends show prematurely..

Blackmore’s Night, featuring guitarist Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Rainbow fame along with vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Candice Night, was set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the band’s debut album, Shadow of the Moon, with a performance at Sony Hall on October 30. As the band plays a unique brand of medieval and renaissance-flavored folk rock, numerous fans at the front tables at Sony Hall dressed in medieval-designed outfits. The audience cheered when Blackmore first came on stage, thinking the show was starting, but he was checking something and returned backstage for another brief period. The audience energy was high and the expectations for a good concert were equally high.

Many things went wrong at the concert, some very evident to the audience. A few songs into the performance, a fire alarm interrupted the performance several times. The musicians repeatedly asked for the blinding stage lights to be dimmed. No one from the venue’s production crew solved the problems.

Less than an hour into the performance, with the issues not corrected, Blackmore left the stage. Night followed. The remaining musicians continued playing, eventually walking off the stage one by one, until only the drummer remained, and then he left also. After a few minutes of silence, a representative from the venue announced that the concert ended.

Blackmore’s Night perform several songs before aborting the show. These songs included “The Clock Ticks On,” “Dancer and the Moon,” “Darkness,” “Under a Violet Moon,” a cover of Deep Purple’s “Soldier of Fortune,” and “Durch den Wald zum Bach Haus.”

The band and management of Blackmore’s Night posted the following statement two days later. At press time, no one representing Sony Hall responded to the band’s management, attorneys, or this reporter.

"To our fans. Never in 25 years of being onstage world wide have we ever experienced the ill treatment of band and audience by the Sony Hall NYC as we did tonight. Trying to keep emotions in check, we will describe, factually, what the attendants and people “in charge” of Sony Hall put us all through that led to total disaster and forced the show to end much much earlier than we wanted.   >We had band members come in from different states, arranged production, took quite a loss financially to come play for you all at this venue. We planned on playing all night till curfew so we could all enjoy the 25 years of our music and even music beyond that scope as Ritchie’s career spans decades beyond.   When we got there, it was freezing. All our band and crew were complaining about how icy the room was. Cold often wreaks havoc with not only vocals but the fingers of those playing the instruments as well as the reed instruments and any string instruments…guitars, hurdy gurdies and violin. We repeatedly requested that they shut the air conditioner so that the room warmed up enough for us to be able to put on the performance expected of us all.   We went to get dressed, into a dressing room that had no working facilities (toilet, etc.) and when we returned to the stage we noticed that it was even colder. The stage decorations actually blowing in the direct wind current from the air con showed that the unit hadn’t been shut off at all. So band and crew stood backstage in coats hoping that the room would eventually warm up. It never did. They never shut the air conditioning off and even the fans had to keep coats on during the show. We told them we couldn’t go on until they shut the freezing air. We had to wait an additional 15 minutes after our intro tape had begun until they finally realized that we couldn’t go on until they stopped the air con. When they realized that we wouldn’t take the stage till they stopped the cold air blowing, they finally shut it off. Then we went on stage.   From our second song, a loud beeping filled the room. It went through every song we played. It would stop for a minute or two, then continue incessantly, ruining any song we tried to play. We were informed by production that it was a fire alarm pulled by someone “on the third floor in the Paramount Hotel” and, although it was unnecessary for us to evacuate the premises and everyone was safe, they refused to shut the alarm off. This beeping went on throughout many of our songs. We tried to make light of it, tried to get people to laugh and joke about it, even worked it into a song since it wouldn’t cease. But after that loud beeping throughout 1/2 of the show. we could not do anything else to overcome the constant distraction.   Add to that the fact that the assigned lighting “professional,” (which) we requested when our production team advanced the show and were assured would be provided by the venue, kept such bright migraine-inducing lights blaring into our faces, never changing, never stopping, even after we requested during soundcheck that the lighting would change and be sensitive to the song moods. Ritchie twice went on mic to tell the lighting person to shut those three bright and offending lights and was ignored each time. Candice twice told the lighting person on mic that he was putting the show in jeopardy by not lowering those lights and to please use “his faders, or even an on/off switch would be helpful at this point” and was ignored. Two fans at that point came forth to offer visors or sunglasses to wear and passed them onstage, feeling the band’s plight. It was no use. The lighting person ignored everything that was told to him and kept those lights on and blaring.   We would never play a venue without having lights and sound at the top of our list of professional asks. They are incredibly important in the scope of what we do. If we would’ve known that the techs at Sony Hall were going to be so unprofessional, we never would’ve gone ahead with the request to play that venue. There were many other issues that happened that night, including merchandise being stolen, security issues, personal threats being made against the band members. It is abhorrent the way that that venue treated the band and the fans. We feel so sorry for those who came to see the show as we went in good faith, ready to play and have a great time with you all.   We have repeatedly requested that the Sony Hall return the money of the fans who attended the concert. Sony Hall has repeatedly ignored our communications through our agent.   We love our fans and we hope this awareness by other artists in the future will assist them to be aware of what happened to Blackmore’s Night at Sony Hall on October 30, 2022.”
