More on 007.

James Bond has become one of the most iconic and celebrated film series of all time, and its popularity has continued to surge with the release of recent films like Skyfall and SPECTRE. London has become linked as the home of this quintessentially British spymaster, and many of London’s most famous icons and landmarks have featured in the films throughout the years. Tourists coming to London will often recognize some of its most famous and lesser known sites through their connection to the James Bond series. Take Somerset House, which was used in disguise as St Petersburg Square in the film Goldeneye, or the scenes at Westminster Bridge during Skyfall. The River Thames has become synonymous with the boat chase that took place in “The World is not Enough” that ended dramatically at the Millenium Dome. The current MI6 headquarters have been featured in many of the most recent films as the headquarters of M, and of course viewers witnessed its destruction at the dramatic end of Skyfall. In fact, the connection between Bond and London go all the way back to the very first Bond film, Dr No, in the 1960’s. It was at the very beginning that we witnessed the iconic first appearance of Bond (Sean Connery), which was rumoured to have been shot at a card table near the Hilton. This James Bond Tour of London is a great way to get to know the city, through the eyes of England’s most famous spy master.

UK Travel Planning Guide: the FAQs

🏥 Should I buy UK travel insurance?

Absolutely yes. Basic coverage is not expensive, and as a visitor you are NOT covered under the NHS. Compare policies and prices with Travel Insurance Master here , a big name in the travel insurance business, and cross that off your list.

🔌 Do I need travel adapters for the UK?

Yes, you do, otherwise you won’t be able to plug in your electronics/phone/lifelines. I recommend this one , which is all-in-one so you can use it in other countries.

🚗 What do I need to drive in the UK?

The first thing you need to check out if you’re planning on renting a car in the UK is this guide to driving in the UK for visitors – the roads, signs, and driving experience will likely not be what you’re used to and it’s essential to prepare yourself to stay safe and aware.

🛌 What’s the best way to book hotels in the UK?

For UK hotels, Booking is the best site as it offers free cancellation on many properties. If you want an apartment, I always recommend VRBO over AirBnb.

📳 Will my phone work in the UK?

Yes – if you set it up right. Check out my guide on making your foreign phone work in the UK to ensure that you get the type of service you need.

🚿 Can I drink the water in the UK?

Yes, UK water is great and perfectly safe. But drink out of taps in any kitchen or use water fountains. Double check before drinking out of the taps in hotel bathrooms, though, as they may be on a different system. London water is safe to drink .

Traveler Reviews

Our brilliant guide, Johnathan Coot, was very insightful, enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgeable. We were lucky with the weather, pedestrians and the traffic, which added to the great experience. The videos on the bus to set up the next location, the images folder (with many images on context, and from the sets), plus the words of our guide really heightened this immersive experience into the many different filming locations of the James Bond franchise, some of which we would never have known about. Would recommend to any Bond fans!

Just amazing from start to finish and our guide was funny and knowledgeable would recommend this tour to everyone

Very enjoyable tour Ian was very knowledgeable about all things bond and took me to places I didn’t know and I live in London would recommend this tour to any bond fans

What an interesting packed trip this was. Lots of locations that we would never have found ourselves. Johnathon was well spoken, so well informed and enthusiastic bringing the whole thing to feel like reality!! The coach had a DVD player to introduce / summarise each location whilst on the move. Not to be missed.

We really enjoyed this tour. A group of adults from mid-30s to late 60s, and we were lucky with the weather and an *excellent* tour guide, Constantine. We were a little unlucky with how busy that part of London was with 2 big protests, the preparations for the coronation events, and an Eid mela/festival, but it was all really well accomodated by Constantine. Thanks a million for a great experience!

Excellent James Bond bus tour. All the family enjoyed the experience and our guide Ian was very good.

Jeremiah, our guide, was warm, friendly, energetic, and knowledgeable. The tour includes travel via coach between several filming scenes from across the James Bond series, and short walks to see each location in detail on foot. I particularly enjoyed that the tour didn't feel gimmicky or twee - a great balance between enthusiasm for the character/franchise and the reality of the film industry. The tour was well planned out and professionally delivered, and a comfort break was scheduled as part of the route - necessary for the four-hour experience. Overall, as a fan of the Bond series and filmmaking in general, I was very pleased with our experience.

Awesome tour and knowledgeable guide. Was great to see new sites in London I otherwise wouldn’t have seen.

We loved the London Bond Bus Tour. Ian was brilliant, and took us to at least a dozen locations, some of which, I'd never managed to visit as a Bond fan before. There is still reasonable amount of walking involved, so bear that in mind. We'll have to do their walking tour a well at some point, which covers some more central Bond locations too.

Ian was great and funny. He gave us a lot of information and “insights” from movies. The tour has a good dynamic and duable with kids.

Garry & Hayley

Excellent tour, excellent tour guide

This was our 2nd tour with 'Chris' having done the carry on tour earlier in the year which was brought for me from the wife. The James Bond tour was solely for her, but I can honestly say what a brilliant experience. The tour was well organised and took you to locations around London that were used for filming. Chris enthusiasm really does make the tour fun and enjoyable. He is truly an asset to brit movie tours and would definately book another tour with him again. Thanks again for a great day!

Very informative James Bond Tour

We recently went on the James Bond Bus Tour of London. The guide was very informative and passionate about his subject. What he didn't know about the James Bond films just wasn't worth knowing! He told us anecdotes from the actors and snippets of interesting information about the locations, the tour was in a small bus (there was only 13 of us) and the driver was extremely considerate. There was not alot of walking but we managed to see all of the sites of interest. A good day out.

Had a great few hours today spent with my Daughter on the 007 film location tour, it was brilliant. Michael our tour guide was very informative and witty, and though the weather was a bit pour at times i.e. hail stones etc. he never faltered.

A fantastic tour

A first class experience that is made to come to life by supremely knowledgeable guide/s. Taking you to places you’d walk passed and not give a second glance. The tour vividly gives you the Bond moments connected to them. Worth every penny.

My son (13) and husband had a great few hours traveling around parts of London seeing for themselves many locations where several of their favourite James Bond were filmed.

Was not sure at first but got better and better as the day went on. very good guide. very knowledgeable.

This tour was brilliant. Our guide new his stuff and was very helpful with any questions. Worth the trip and well recommended.

A good knowledgeable tour

Relaxed and enjoyable

Well put together tour

We were given this tour as a Christmas present. It was very enjoyable despite the hot weather. The coach was air conditioned so we were able to literally chill between scenes. We were impressed with the format of the tour. The video screens in the coach were used to show us Bond scenes before and after our visit to the venue in which they were shot. The guide was witty and knowledgable so we had a great time. We have also now bought some Bond DVDs on eBay as a result!

An amazing day out.

On one of the hottest days of the year the new air-conditioned coach was a godsend. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and a must for any Bond fans.

Bond Experience

It was a great three hour tour. The guide was very knowledgeable, funny and friendly. There were problems parking at some of the sites, even though it was on a Sunday, but Russell (the guide) was very experienced and put us fully in the picture. It was certainly an eye opening experience regarding the filming. One thing I would say, it is not a tour if you have walking difficulties!

Full description

James Bond London Tour / Q Boat Scene

Explore the locations that inspired the birth of 007, and brought his adventures to life.

Ian Fleming was a London native, and the city is full of landmarks that played a part in his life before and after Bond. See the Mayfair townhouse on 27 Green Street , where Fleming was born on the 28 th of May 1908. And 16 Victoria Square , where he moved to in 1953, the same year that he published ‘Casino Royale’ , giving birth to James Bond and a new British icon . Fleming wrote all of the subsequent books here too, and lived here until his death in 1964.

There’s also the Duke’s Hotel , one of Fleming’s favourite pubs. Rumour has it that he was enjoying a drink here when he coined the iconic phrase “shaken, not stirred” . This bar also holds more significance in the James Bond story. Both Sean Connery and Pierse Brosnan are said to have celebrated  landing the role of 007 in this very spot. Their tipple of choice to toast the achievement? Why, a martini, of course!

There are many London landmarks that have appeared in the James Bond movies over the years too.

Some are even used to represent other parts of the world. For example, you’ll get to see the large neoclassical building Somerset House . In Tomorrow Never Dies , this historic location is used as the London War Office . However, in Goldeneye , the building’s courtyard is used for a fight scene set in St. Petersburg, Russia.

James Bond London Tour / Spectre Crash Scene

And there are many other iconic filming locations throughout the city too! Like Vauxhall Cross , used in numerous movie to represent MI6 HQ (that is until it was blown up in Skyfall ). There’s also the Old War Office in Whitehall , where 007 meets with M in Octopussy .

London is engrained in the creation and adventures of James Bond. From the character’s first appearance it has been his base of operations and the setting of some of his greatest victories. The  James Bond London Locations Bus Tour allows you to explore his life in this city. And it offers insight into how the streets and buildings shaped the spy that is still beloved throughout the world today.

‘James Bond’ tourist attraction to snub London market

A developer seeking to turn London’s “James Bond tunnels” into a tourist attraction has announced plans to list on the Amsterdam stock market, in a blow to the City.

The London Tunnels, which owns the historic Kingsway Exchange Tunnels under Chancery Lane Tube station in the City, said it hopes to float on the Euronext exchange with a value of £130m.

The move will be seen as a snub to the London Stock Exchange (LSE) at a time when confidence in the City is wavering.

It follows multiple companies moving their listings overseas or opting to float elsewhere.

Xavier Rolet, a former chief executive of the LSE, this month called for a major overhaul of the struggling equities market, urging the next government to provide additional support.

The Kingsway Exchange Tunnels were built as a deep air-raid shelter during the Second World War but ended up being used as accommodation for troops and later as an operations centre for parts of MI6 and GCHQ, thought to be the inspiration for “Q Branch” in Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels.

After the war, the tunnels were repurposed as a major Post Office telephone exchange and were the terminus point for the first transatlantic phone line. They also acted as a conduit for the “red phone” hotline used by the leaders of the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

London Tunnels wants to transform the site – which has not been accessible to the public for 70 years – into a top tourist attraction that will cater to 3m visitors per year.

The company has said the renovated tunnels will offer “a combination of historical heritage experiences and a cultural, beautifully designed, multi-sensory, digital experience”.

Concept photos show modern museum spaces with model planes hanging from the ceiling and mocked-up wartime operation centres, as well as scenes of punters enjoying a drink in what would be London’s deepest underground bar.

Bosses have set out plans to open the site in 2027 and aim to raise £30m to fund preparatory work, including detailed feasibility and engineering studies, via a share sale in Amsterdam.

The project requires planning permission from both the City of London Corporation and Camden council, with the latter yet to make a decision.

On Monday, the company hailed Amsterdam as “the leading pan-European market” and said listing there was “in the best long-term interests of the company”.

Peter Curtin, the chairman of the London Tunnels, said: “The listing of the London Tunnels on the leading pan-European market will give investors the opportunity to acquire shares in what is likely to be the last major historical and heritage attraction that can be reopened in central London.

“The London Tunnels could be set to become one of London’s major tourist attractions, providing visitors with an exciting educational, cultural and heritage experience.”

Angus Murray, the chief executive of the London Tunnels, added: “We are delighted to announce the upcoming listing of our shares on Euronext Amsterdam.

“We believe a public listing of the London Tunnels is the logical next step, improving our ability to raise further capital over the coming years to support the company’s growth strategy and create long-term value.

“London is undoubtedly one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. It is one of the most visited cities in the world, with millions of visitors each year, all of whom we hope will be interested in visiting the tunnels.”
