British break: St Davids, Wales

The tiny Welsh city of St Davids is known the world over for its cathedral; now a burgeoning eco-scene is helping visitors to discover it in a whole new way…

Like so many before me, I was drawn to St Davids – on Pembrokeshire ’s westernmost tip – by tales of its saints and its history; in particular, the purple-hued cathedral that once made this a bustling centre for medieval pilgrims. Back in the 12th century, it was decreed by Pope Callixtus II that two pilgrimages to St Davids were worth the equivalent of a single journey to Rome; three, it was said, were equal to visiting Jerusalem. Even back then, this tiny Welsh city had a knack for offering up low-carbon alternatives.

Those in search of examples of the area’s centuries of unwavering religious commitment will find no shortage. The patron saint of Wales, St David (Dewi Sant), is a big deal to us Walians, and it was here that he founded his monastery in the 6th century AD, upon which now stands the present-day cathedral. It was also here that St Patrick was said to have set sail for Ireland on his mission to convert its people to Christianity.

This twin heritage is preserved in myriad activities, from trails following in the ‘footsteps of St David’ to Celtic chapels and holy wells where prayer beads still decorate saintly statues. But that is very much just one side of life here.

Foraging for seaweed (Jade Braham)

Despite being Britain’s ‘smallest’ city (in both population and size of urban area), St Davids still has room for a wealth of experiences centred around another theme entirely: sustainability. This is reflected in its status as Wales’ first bee-friendly city, as well as some of its more interesting quirks. Soon after arriving, I found myself devouring a ‘bug burger’ at Grub Kitchen, the UK’s only full-time insect restaurant/café and part of a local research centre focused on sustainable food production and wildlife conservation. Much to my surprise, it was rather tasty.

What Grub Kitchen highlights is that there’s far much more to St Davids than just postcard charm. There is a growing trend here towards sustainable escapes, and it is being spearheaded by local guides leading foraging tours, trips helping visitors to reconnect with the ocean by exploring the coast, and culinary geniuses incorporating wild ingredients into their recipes. Like the saints of long ago, the city’s locals are on a mission to change the world around them.

I, for one, am a happy convert. St Davids is, for me, where horizons are broadened, and I would bet that most visitors gain a deeper appreciation of their place on Earth just by being there.

St Non’s Chpael (Jade Braham)

St David once said: “Be joyful [and] do the little things.” There is perhaps no better advice for exploring his namesake town. For starters, download the St Davids Pollinator Trail map and follow the City Trail, learning just how this became Wales’ first bee-friendly city. Begin your exploration at Oriel y Parc, an award-winning ‘green’ building that usually has one or two environmentally themed exhibitions as well as art and artefacts from the National Museum of Wales on show. Next, venture to Really Wild Emporium , which sells products made from foraged and found ingredients, then drop in on TYF , which has ethically-made clothing and equipment and also offers coasteering, wild-swimming and kayaking tours along the Pembrokeshire coast. The trail ends at St David’s Cathedral, where you will find a shrine to the saint himself. Adjacent to this is the opulent Bishop’s Palace, which is where the clergy once entertained important pilgrims. From here, walk to The Mill Café for a lunch of smashed avocado with poached eggs and vine tomatoes, before visiting St Non’s Chapel, the birthplace of St David. Finish the day at Blas Restaurant , whose menu champions local produce such as that of sustainable seaweed farm Câr-y-Môr.

Whitesands Bay (Jade Braham)

Day 2Start your day at The Bug Farm , a research centre that is doing its bit to lessen the environmental impact of what we eat, including teaching visitors about sustainable farming and the merits of using insects as food. Here you will also find the Bug Museum, the Tropical Bug Zoo and, lastly, Grub Kitchen, where – having put aside all squeamishness – you can taste cricket cookies, bug burgers and mixed-insect pakoras. Afterwards, step back in time over a thousand years as you search for St Patrick’s Chapel in the sand dunes overlooking Whitesands Beach. This excavated site is said to be where the eponymous saint set sail for Ireland; some 100 human remains have also been found in its cemetery, which dates back to the 6th century. Afterwards, stroll to the hidden Porthselau Beach for sweeping views of St David’s Head before returning to Whitesands to meet forager John Mansfield from Wild About Pembrokeshire , whose foraging courses and walks teach travellers about the many different types of seaweed, their health benefits and how to find them. The perfect end to the day is to dine at Really Wild Emporium, sampling a six-course tasting menu brimming with seaweed that you will probably have seen (and maybe even picked) earlier in the day.

Ask a local

“I love that St Davids is so wild and that there is so much sky. You can see the clouds moving and storms coming in. That’s something you don’t normally get – even when there’s lots of mountains – and I’ve found this to be quite profound. So, I’d suggest going rock-pooling, especially at Abereiddy, which has lots of wildlife along the coast that not many people see.”

– Tabitha Gibbons, research and conservation team member at The Bug Farm

Four top things to do in St Davids

DETOUR to Lammas Ecovillage . Named after the Celtic festival of harvest, Lammas is a collection of 15 smallholdings representing different ways to live sustainably and off the grid. Saturday tours (Apr–Oct) explore the community and its mosaic of ecosystems, passing turf-built dwellings and woodlands.

SAIL towards the Pembrokeshire Islands. These isles are known for their diverse wildlife, including leaping porpoises and myriad seabirds. The two-hour Islands Voyage cruise (Apr–Oct) passes rock gorges, sea caves and the Bishops and Clerks Rocks. It is best to book in advance.

HIKE to Carn Llidi. The walk begins at the Whitesands car park and passes bushes of yellow gorse, a promontory, and the site where St Patrick’s Chapel used to stand. Continue inland and uphill, hiking towards the summit and gaining views across to Ireland’s Wicklow Mountains.

EXPLORE with TYF , whose passionate team helps individuals reconnect with nature, whether via coasteering tours, trips to examine rock pools, paddleboarding on the River Teifi, or by conquering the surf at Whitesands Beach.

How to see the best of norway on hurtigruten cruises.

Hurtigruten's coastal ferries rarely venture far from the Norwegian coastline.

Hurtigruten is a well-known name among tourists with a keen interest in Scandinavian travel. Renowned for its scenic voyages along the Norwegian coast, Hurtigruten has been a staple in the Nordic travel industry for decades.

What travelers might not realize is that Hurtigruten now offers three distinct types of cruise experiences in Norway, provided by two separate companies under the Hurtigruten brand.

These experiences cater to different interests and expectations, making it essential for travelers to understand the nuances of each option before booking their trips.

Whether you are looking for a classic coastal voyage, an Arctic expedition, or fancy trying out a new signature route, Hurtigruten has something to offer everyone with an interest in visiting Norway.

Understanding the three options will help you select the experience that best aligns with your travel goals and ensure that your adventure through Norway's stunning landscapes and rich culture is everything you hope for.

Why Christina Ricci Is Giving Up Ownership Of Wednesday Addams

Wwe smackdown results, winners and grades on june 7, 2024, howard university returning sean diddy combs 1 million donation amid sexual misconduct allegations, the hurtigruten experience explained.

Hurtigruten is not a typical cruise line. Instead of focusing on onboard entertainment and luxury amenities, Hurtigruten emphasizes the natural beauty and cultural richness of Norway.

Hurtigruten emphasizes the Norwegian coastline as the entertainment on its voyages, shown by the ... [+] design of its observation lounge.

Passengers can expect an immersive experience that brings them closer to Norway's stunning landscapes and unique wildlife.

Most Hurtigruten ships are older cruise ferries, with a few newer expedition ships added to the fleet. All ships prioritize functionality and comfort over amenities. Regardless of the age of the ship, there is no onboard entertainment in the traditional cruising sense.

Instead, the entertainment is the Norwegian coastline, wildlife, and some limited enrichment activities, such as lectures and occasional guided tours, depending on the itinerary.

Excellent food is a feature across the fleet, with an emphasis on local and sustainable ingredients. Fish and seafood feature strongly on the dinner menus, while lavish breakfast and lunch buffet meals ensure passengers never go hungry.

Norway’s Historic Coastal Route

Although the line has diversified since losing the exclusive rights to operate the route, Norway’s historic coastal ferry route remains the backbone of Hurtigruten's offering.

Daily departures from Bergen continue. Hurtigruten operates departures on seven of 11 days, with Havila Voyages operating the other four.

There's a casual atmosphere aboard Hurtigruten's coastal route ships.

This route has been operating since 1893, serving as a lifeline for Norway’s remote, coastal communities. Today, the journey stretches from Bergen in the southwest to Kirkenes in the northeast, covering over 2,500 miles.

Passengers can embark on a full 11-night round trip from Bergen, take a one-way voyage, or do as the locals do and use the service as a ferry for shorter segments.

Regardless of the option you pick, this route offers a thoroughly enjoyable blend of scenic beauty and cultural experiences. Passengers will see dramatic fjords, charming coastal towns, and the northern lights in the winter or the midnight sun in the summer.

Multiple daily port calls allow for excursions and exploration in some ports, but many are short stops designed simply for the loading and unloading of cargo and local passengers.

Hurtigruten’s New Signature Voyages

To mark the 130th anniversary of the coastal route and make more use of MS Trollfjord , Hurtigruten introduced two unique itineraries called the Svalbard Express and North Cape Express.

The passenger-only voyages proved popular, so Hurtigruten recently made them a permanent addition to its program , with departures available from Bergen and Oslo.

Now named ‘Signature Voyages’, the renamed Svalbard Line (summer) and North Cape Line (winter) offer unique itineraries with longer port stays, no local ferry service, all-inclusive Nordic cuisine, personalized guiding, and enrichment activities.

Norway's North Cape has been a tourist destination for hundreds of years.

The experience is arguably better for experienced cruisers than the coastal route, with fewer, longer port calls, and a more cruise-like experience, despite still lacking the entertainment of traditional cruise lines.

Expedition Cruises In Norway

Now known as HX , Hurtigruten Expeditions offers expedition cruises across the world, but also in its home waters of Norway.

These cruises are designed for those who want to explore remote and less-visited areas of Norway, often beyond the Arctic Circle. Expedition cruises are conducted on smaller, specialized ships equipped for polar waters and include a range of activities such as kayaking, hiking, and wildlife spotting.

Passengers are accompanied by expert guides and scientists, who provide insights into the natural environment and local culture. These cruises retain the core of the Hurtigruten experience but offer a more rugged and hands-on approach to exploring Norway’s wilderness.

Available HX expedition cruises to Norway include exploring the Arctic winter aboard MS Spitsbergen or circumnavigations of Svalbard aboard MS Fram .

Expedition cruises in Svalbard allow visitors to get closer to nature.

The latter offers a much more in-depth exploration of Svalbard’s glaciers and wildlife than some other lines' Svalbard cruises, which may make just one port call in Longyearbyen.

Booking Tips For Hurtigruten Cruises In Norway

Although Hurtigruten trips are a bucket list item for many travelers, research should be done in advance of booking to fully understand the ships, travel concept, and other factors that may impact enjoyment. That’s especially true for someone used to traditional cruising.

Hurtigruten’s smaller ships mean that guests will feel the movement of the ocean more. On the coastal route, certain stretches such as rounding Norway’s West Cape and crossing Vestfjorden towards Lofoten are renowned for their rough seas, especially when sailing outside of the summer season.

Hurtigruten fares are also higher than guests may expect, especially on the coastal route.

Part of the reason for this is the coastal route ships are subject to local laws and must use Norwegian-speaking crew primarily for safety reasons. This requires the payment of relatively high salaries and imposing high taxes on alcohol, among other factors, that keep prices higher than some alternative travel options.

Despite the high prices, there’s a lot to love about the Hurtigruten experience in Norway, which keeps many travelers coming back year after year.

The breathtaking natural landscapes, rich cultural experiences, and unique itineraries that cater to a range of interests make Hurtigruten cruises a standout choice for exploring Norway.

Greens senator David Shoebridge says the government is proposing a law that would allow Trump-style travel bans. Is that correct?

Fact Check Greens senator David Shoebridge says the government is proposing a law that would allow Trump-style travel bans. Is that correct?

Greens senator David Shoebridge says the government is proposing a law which would allow Trump-style travel bans. Is that correct?

Immigration is shaping up to be a key issue ahead of the next federal election, as the Labor government grapples with a High Court decision that led to the release of some 150 detainees from indefinite immigration detention, including many with serious criminal histories .

To head off the brewing political crisis, the government is seeking to pass laws that would allow the immigration minister to deny visas to people whose countries refuse to accept the repatriation of deported citizens.

The move has sparked fears of travel bans similar to those seen in the US under former president Donald Trump, with Greens spokesman for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs David Shoebridge condemning the "god-like powers" being considered and labelling the proposed legislation a "Trump-style travel ban bill".

"It allows the government to ban people from certain countries from ever travelling to Australia," Senator Shoebridge said in a video posted to social media platform X on April 15.

"The government has not said what countries this will apply to. But it could be literally any country."

So, is the federal government proposing laws that would allow Trump-style travel bans? RMIT ABC Fact Check investigates.

The verdict

Senator Shoebridge's claim is a fair call.

Labor's proposed legislation would allow the immigration minister to designate entire countries as a "removal concern", subjecting their citizens to a ban on applying for visas to enter Australia.

The government has said this designation is intended to be used as a negotiation tool with governments that do not accept deported citizens.

A similar power has existed in US legislation since 1952 but was rarely used during the post-Cold War period until the election of Donald Trump, who wielded it via executive order to place visa bans on a number of Asian and African countries between 2017 and 2020.

While these bans mostly targeted government officials and their families, experts said the Australian proposal could apply to most visa applicants, with minor exceptions such as for refugees and asylum seekers.

Separate to the above restrictions were the more widely publicised bans that primarily targeted Muslim-majority nations, purportedly on the grounds of national security. These bans barred the entry of most people from these countries.

Experts said Labor's proposal would give the immigration minister powers to institute similarly broad bans, with the discretion to target countries based on what he or she deems to be in the "national interest".

It's not certain how the courts would rule on specific bans, and therefore whether this criterion would allow the minister to blacklist "any" country.

Nonetheless, experts said the minister's power to designate removal concern countries would be exceptionally broad and the opportunities for judicial challenge very limited.

Source of the claim

Donald Trump in front of a purple background with the words "Team Trump".

Senator Shoebridge's claim relates to the government's Migration Amendment (Removal and Other Measures) Bill 2024 .

A spokesman for the senator told Fact Check that under the changes proposed by the bill, "the Government will be able to prevent people from select countries applying for visas in Australia, effectively creating a travel ban".

In an email, he said the phrase "Trump-style travel bans" was a reference to the former president's series of executive orders that prevented people from select countries from applying for visas to the US, effectively creating a ban on travel.

"While there are some minor differences, the purpose of the bill is the same."

The spokesman added that "numerous independent legal experts have made this comparison" in submissions and testimony to a Senate inquiry into the bill.

According to Amnesty International's submission , for example, the bill "raises the spectre of … Trump's 'Muslim Ban' policy, targeting a select group of countries in clear violation of Australia's international human rights obligations".

What is the government proposing?

Andrew Giles looking slightly confused in Question Time

Labor drafted its bill amid the fallout from a November 2023 ruling by the High Court, which held that non-citizens without a valid visa could not be detained indefinitely if they could not be deported to another country.

Speaking in parliament on March 26, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Andrew Giles said new ministerial powers were necessary "because, regrettably, some countries will not allow their nationals to return to their home country".

Among the changes proposed by Labor's bill is the insertion of sections 199F and 199G into the Migration Act 1958.

According to the bill's explanatory memorandum , the provisions would empower the immigration minister to designate a country "as a removal concern country … if the minister thinks it is in the national interest to do so".

Once a country is designated a "removal concern", its citizens would no longer be able to validly apply for a new visa while outside Australia.

The bill provides for a series of exemptions, such as for dual nationals (where one of the nations is not a removal concern country); partners or children of Australian citizens or residents; parents of children (aged under 18) residing in Australia; and refugee and humanitarian applicants.

Before designating a removal concern country, the minister must consult with the prime minister and the foreign affairs minister to ensure the decision "is appropriately informed by Australia's national interest and the national and international implications of the exercise of the power", the explanatory memorandum states.

However, the decision is "a discretionary personal power" of the minister.

Speaking to journalists on May 10, Mr Giles justified Labor's proposal on the basis that it "is really a diplomatic tool to encourage cooperation on the part of those countries with the Australian government".

Defining 'Trump-style'

US President Donald Trump signs a revised executive order.

Trump may not have delivered on his more ambitious immigration promises, such as the building of a wall along the entire border with Mexico, but according to the Migration Policy Institute , his use of "sweeping presidential proclamations and executive orders, departmental policy guidance, and hundreds of small, technical adjustments" left a deep impact on US immigration policy.

His administration was "arguably the first to take full advantage of the executive branch's vast authority on immigration", the institute wrote in a 2022 report.

Perhaps the highest profile of Trump's immigration-related actions was the so-called "Muslim ban", a set of travel restrictions that followed his campaign promise of a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States".

Separately, Trump also issued multiple directions to limit the issuing of certain visas to countries that had failed to cooperate with efforts to deport their citizens.

Jane McAdam, director of the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law at UNSW, told Fact Check that although the two types of ban arose at the same time, "they were different policies and applied to completely different countries".

For the purposes of this analysis, Fact Check takes "Trump-style" as referring to the scope of the former president's various travel bans and to his use of broad executive powers when imposing them.

The 'Muslim ban'

Within days of taking office in January 2017, Trump issued a flurry of executive orders related to immigration.

An initial order titled "Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States" temporarily suspended the US refugee admissions program, specifically barred the entry of Syrian refugees and restricted travel from seven Muslim-majority nations (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen).

All valid visas of nationals of the seven nations, with limited exceptions, were revoked (although the order was reversed by a US court the next month).

At the time, Trump invoked the president's broad authority "to suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens" whenever the president deems that their entry "would be detrimental to the interests of the United States".

Several versions of the ban were challenged in the courts , with the administration arguing its decisions were driven by concerns over "national security and public safety threats" rather than by religious criteria.

In June 2018, the US Supreme Court upheld the government's third attempt, which related to a September 2017 proclamation restricting the entry of nationals of Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, North Korea and Venezuela.

While the affected countries varied during Trump's term — with a later proclamation also barring entry from Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania and Nigeria, for example — the bans remained in effect until they were rescinded by President Joe Biden.

Trump's 'recalcitrant' nations

Also in January 2017, Trump signed a separate order titled "Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States".

This order sought to ensure the removal of "tens of thousands of removable aliens" who had been released into the community "solely because their home countries refuse to accept their repatriation".

Citing "the national interest", Trump directed the government to implement sanctions against so-called "recalcitrant countries".

Section 243(d) of the Immigration and Nationality Act 1952 allows the US government to "discontinue granting immigrant or nonimmigrant visas" to foreign nationals whose governments have denied or unreasonably delayed the return of nationals ordered removed from the country.

This means the government may "implement visa restrictions on certain categories of visa applicants … [until] removal cooperation has improved to an acceptable level", according to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement website.

As a result of Trump's order, visa sanctions were imposed on Cambodia, Eritrea, Guinea and Sierra Leone in September 2017; Burma and Laos in July 2018; Ghana and Pakistan in January 2019; and Burundi in June 2020.

In most cases, restrictions applied only to government officials and their immediate families, or in the case of Ghana, the employees of US-based diplomats.

Professor McAdam said the US government has had the power to impose visa sanctions on "uncooperative" or "recalcitrant countries" since 1952.

According to the US Congressional Research Service , the power was generally used against Soviet-bloc nationals during the Cold War.

Between 1991 and Trump's election, however, the designation was used only twice, against The Gambia in late 2016 and Guyana in 2001.

The Guyana case followed a Supreme Court decision that, much like the recent Australian High Court ruling, limited the government's authority to indefinitely detain non-citizens who had been ordered removed.

At the time, the US imposed visa sanctions to force the removal of 113 criminally convicted Guyanese nationals in US custody, following unsuccessful diplomatic attempts. Within two months, Guyana responded by issuing travel documents to 112 of the nationals, and sanctions were lifted.

So, could Labor's bill allow similar bans?

The concept of "removal concern" countries in the government's bill resembles that of so-called "recalcitrant" or "uncooperative" countries used in US law, experts told Fact Check.

Mr Giles has, in fact, said Labor's proposal would "do what the United States has had in place since 1952".

But the scope of the Australian law would allow for much wider bans than the visa restrictions seen in the US, the experts said.

According to Daniel Ghezelbash, an associate professor and the deputy director of the Kaldor Centre, Australian restrictions could be "used for the same purposes (compelling countries to accept forced returns), but the scope is much broader".

"Trump's bans focused on tourist visas only, and with all but one exception, tourist visas for government officials and family members. Australia's bans [could] target all citizens, for all visa categories (with minor exceptions …)," he said in an email.

The Kaldor Centre's inquiry submission underlined its concern over the minister's power to "blacklist" entire countries, noting that "while the US can refuse to issue visas to nationals of designated 'recalcitrant' countries, it first considers whether a country is being deliberately uncooperative or is just unable to cooperate due to mitigating factors, such as disasters or limited capacity …"

"By contrast, the Australian bill contains no indication that such considerations will be taken into account," the submission said.

Mary Crock, a professor of public law and member of the Sydney Centre for International Law at the University of Sydney, said the bill was open to such criticism that it would enable government action similar to the Trump executive orders.

"The concern is with provisions that would empower the minister to block the grant of visas to nationals of certain countries — namely those refusing to repatriate their own citizens," she said.

"I think that the parallels with Trump's travel bans are fair enough. The bill is a massive overreach and very silly."

As for the so-called Muslim bans, Dr Ghezelbash said "their scope was more comparable to the proposed laws in Australia, as they were blanket bans covering all visa categories (with minor exceptions)".

A potentially wide net

View of the High Court of Australia sign in Canberra.

Anthea Vogl, an associate professor at the UTS Faculty of Law, said Labor's bill contained no reference to specific countries or nationalities, meaning the immigration minister "can declare any country as subject to the ban".

"Also, despite the stated purpose of the reform, a declaration can be made on the very wide basis of whether the minister thinks it is in 'the national interest' — so the ban may operate for other or broader reasons in practice."

The Law Council of Australia has similarly criticised the "exceptionally broad" scope of the minister's removal concern powers.

"There are no objective criteria and [there is] no specified purpose to guide such a designation," the council wrote in its submission to the Senate.

"Decisions made will be effectively incapable of being challenged by way of judicial review, due to the 'national interest' criterion".

Peter Billings, a law professor at the University of Queensland, told Fact Check that Labor's bill could not allow the minister to target countries for absolutely "any" reason because, legally speaking, ministerial decisions must be based on "a reasonable or rational foundation" and be consistent "with the purposes for which … [the] powers were enacted".

However, he added, although the courts might strike down an unreasonable ban, the judiciary offers only "a very limited form of oversight and accountability, and in this context that is especially true given the broad nature of 'the national interest'".

Professor Billings pointed to the High Court, which has recently described the national interest as "largely a political question".

The court also said the national interest was, in the context of the Migration Act, an "undoubtedly broad [concept] and the possible considerations it may encompass cannot be catalogued".

The Australian Section of the International Commission of Jurists, the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Peter McMullin Centre on Statelessness at the University of Melbourne's Law School are among those opposed to the bill and its removal concern provisions.

Professor McAdam told Fact Check that while she could not say for certain without further legal analysis whether the government could invoke existing powers to ban immigration in the manner being proposed, "there is currently no law like this on the books in Australia".

Shaun Maguire, a partner at the prominent venture capital firm Sequoia , announced he'll be cutting a $300,000 check to Donald Trump — just minutes after the former president was found guilty of 34 felony counts . The timing, Maguire said, was not a coincidence.

In a lengthy screed on X , Maguire, who said he voted for Hilary Clinton in 2016 and did not vote in 2020, outlined his reasoning — including a take about the "double standards and lawfare against Trump."

He also acknowledged that it may not be the most shrewd move for business.

"I know that I'll lose friends for this. Some will refuse to do business with me," he wrote. "The media will probably demonize me, as they have so many others before me. But despite this, I still believe it's the right thing to do."

Maguire, who did not respond to a request to comment from Business Insider, may be less alone than he thinks.

Following his conviction, Trump's campaign reported raising a record $34.8 million. And while that amount was mostly from small donors, per the Trump team, some big-money donors and Silicon Valley titans have signaled their support for the former president — and the guilty verdict doesn't seem to have stopped them.

Related stories

Venture capitalist David Sacks, who is co-hosting a fundraiser for Trump next week, called the trial a "sham." Elon Musk replied in agreement with Maguire. Investor Keith Rabois reposted various takes that criticized the verdict.

While Silicon Valley has long been a liberal hub, Trump has been courting the big-pocketed tech executives and venture capitalists there.

Chamath Palihapitiya, another venture capital billionaire and Sacks' podcast partner, will also cohost next week's Trump fundraiser at Sacks' home, despite donating six figures to Biden in 2020. Musk has reportedly been in talks with Trump regarding an advisory role, should he win.

Others, like venture capitalist Marc Andreeson and Rabois, have not announced their support for Trump but have criticized Biden.

The current administration's stance on regulation — particularly the FTC's approach to Big Tech companies — and calls for increased taxes on the wealthy has turned some former Democrats against the party.

The members of the monied West Coast class throwing their support behind Trump are mirroring some Wall Street counterparts. Last week, Blackstone CEO Steve Schwarzman announced he'd be backing the former president. Hedge fund giant Bill Ackman is reportedly leaning toward endorsing him, too.

Of course, the growing number of influential Silicon Valley voices supporting Trump — Sacks and Palihapitiya have their popular podcast, Musk has his an entire social media platform — are not representative of many of the area's wealthy inhabitants.

For example, earlier this month, former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla hosted fundraising events for Biden.

Correction: June 6, 2024 — An earlier version of this story misstated the amount of money Trump's campaign raised following the verdict. It raised $34.8 million, not $34.8 billion. The story has also been updated to remove a reference to David Sacks' net worth, which Business Insider could not independently confirm.

Watch: Donald Trump was indicted in New York. Here's what we know so far.

  • Connecting flights add travel time and a higher risk of delays or cancellations.
  • Flight expert Gilbert Ott says some airports are better for layovers than others.
  • The best have nice lounges, a variety of food, and are easy to navigate.

Nonstop flights are better than connecting ones — obviously. A trip with a layover adds travel time that would be better spent at a destination and opportunities for things to go wrong, from delays to cancellations.

Flight expert Gilbert Ott agrees, but sometimes, a layover is the only option.

"I try to avoid them, but a lot of the best places worth going to these days do not have direct flights from faraway places," Ott, who flies about 200,000 miles a year and shares his insights on his blog, God Save the Points , told Business Insider.

In Ott's experience, some layovers are more bearable than others based on where you connect.

In general, Ott says it's best to have a layover in an airline's hub airport in case of delays and cancellations.

"In any case, you want to be in a place where the airline has a strong presence because you're going to have layers of support," he said. "And if I miss a connecting flight , there's probably another flight because it's a hub."

But when it comes to killing time, navigating terminals, and minimizing chances of delays, some airports offer a better layover experience than others.

These are the best and worst airlines to have a layover in, according to Ott.

<p>Ott said Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is one of the best for layovers because there are many <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/airport-lounge-etiquette-tips-first-time-visitors-2024-3">premium lounges</a>.</p><p>"It's one of those places where if you do have a layover and you really need to kill time, there are both top-notch lounges and an airport hotel directly in the terminal," Ott said.</p><p>Ott said one of his favorite lounges in the US is DFW's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/credit-cards-with-airport-lounge-access">Capital One lounge</a>. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/amex-centurion-lounges-how-to-access">Amex Centurion</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/delta-sky-club-credit-card-access">Delta Sky Club</a> also have lounges in Dallas, and a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/chase-sapphire-lounge">Chase Sapphire Lounge</a> is set to open there in the future.</p>

A variety of upscale lounges and an on-site hotel make Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport one of the best for layovers.

Ott said Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is one of the best for layovers because there are many premium lounges .

"It's one of those places where if you do have a layover and you really need to kill time, there are both top-notch lounges and an airport hotel directly in the terminal," Ott said.

Ott said one of his favorite lounges in the US is DFW's Capital One lounge . Amex Centurion and Delta Sky Club also have lounges in Dallas, and a Chase Sapphire Lounge is set to open there in the future.

<p>According to Ott, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/most-popular-small-airports-private-jets-2023-12">smaller airports</a> are generally the worst for layovers.</p><p>"I think there's a just inherent advantage to being a big airport because big airports can attract retail," he said.</p><p>For example, Ott told BI he often has layovers at Blue Grass Airport in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lexington-kentucky-travel-hourses-bourbon-hotels-photos-2019-9">Lexington, Kentucky</a>.</p><p>"I've been there a lot. Meanwhile, Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky, is small, and there's not much to do there.

According to Ott, smaller airports are generally the worst for layovers.

"I think there's a just inherent advantage to being a big airport because big airports can attract retail," he said.

For example, Ott told BI he often has layovers at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky .

"I've been there a lot. It's not a fun place to wait for flights," he said. "You have nothing to do."

In 2019, BI's Katie Warren reported that the Kentucky airport was the smallest she'd ever been to, with just two runways.

However, travelers with a tight layover may appreciate that Blue Grass Airport has the shortest walk to the gate in the US at just 0.11 miles.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is ideal for shopping between flights.

"I like Seattle-Tacoma Airport because they've done a really good job of cultivating more local stores and Seattle-centric things," Ott said. "If you've got an hour and 45 minutes, it's easy to kill time there."

Ott added that he's enjoyed sifting through records at a music store during layovers and sampling Washington state wines at a bar.

Business Insider previously reported that the airport's shops reflect the Pacific Northwest experience, with stores like Show Pony, Made in Washington, and Discover Puget Sound.

"It doesn't feel as sterile and generic as some airports. You actually get a sense of Seattle. It's not just an airport somewhere," Ott said.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has many amenities, but it can be brutal for layovers due to frequent weather-related delays and cancellations.

No one wants to put their trip on pause over delays and cancellations — especially in a connecting airport.

According to Ott, this may be more likely to happen when flying out of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia due to frequent storms. And the fact that it's the busiest airport in the world probably doesn't help. BI previously reported that the airport has had mass cancellations in summers and winters due to storms.

"I've had hellacious experiences in Atlanta because of the weather," Ott said. "It's a good airport in the sense that there are lots of flights and places to kill time. It's a bad airport in the sense that it's caught up in more storms than most airports."

Los Angeles International Airport is among the best for connecting flights because it offers easy access to upgraded terminals.

According to Ott, some airports don't allow passengers to travel between terminals they're not departing from.

Since many travelers don't leave the airport between connecting flights, waiting to board can be a drag for those flying out of terminals with few shops, restaurants, and amenities. Ott told BI that international terminals typically have better amenities than domestic ones.

But the terminals are connected at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which is why it's one of Ott's favorite airports for layovers.

"If you're domestic itinerary, you can still go to the international terminal, which has better food, shops, and lounges," he said. "You can kill time at LAX for hours."

LAX's Tom Bradley International Terminal (Terminal B) was updated in 2023. BI previously reported that the terminal has comfy seating — each with its own power ports — a range of food and bar options, and an exceptional Sky Club.

Singapore Changi Airport is the best place to spend a layover. It offers local food, on-site hotels, and a ton of activities.

"For best, Singapore Changi Airport is just untouchable," Ott said.

Ott added that the airport has multiple hotels, local art shops, and no shortage of things to do, see, and eat.

"Some of the best local food is at the airport because the famous places in Singapore set up locations there," he said.

There's a movie theater, a pool, a butterfly garden, and a wide range of shops.

This tiny city in Pembrokeshire, Wales, is home to just 1,600 residents.

What to do in St Davids, the UK's smallest city

Head to the pint-sized Pembrokeshire city for saintly history, wild coastal rambles and a burgeoning food scene.

With just 1,600 residents, St Davids is Britain’s smallest city by population, sitting on a beautiful stretch of the Pembrokeshire coast. It’s home to pastel-painted cottages, pubs, galleries, an outdoor market, restaurants serving farm-to-fork and foraged food and — the jewel in its crown — a 12th-century cathedral. Touring the city is entirely possible in a weekend, but it pays to stay a little longer: with time, you can walk a leg of the 186-mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path, heading up and over cliffs to hidden coves and Neolithic sites; spot shearwaters on the RSPB-owned Ramsey Island; or try a spot of coasteering.

Medieval pilgrims would flock to a shrine within St Davids Cathedral , where the bones of St David and St Justinian are reputed to lie. Today, you can follow in their footsteps with a 3.5-mile coastal walk around St Davids Head, a promontory forged from volcanic rock. Begin at Whitesands Bay before hiking to Porthmelgan and following the trail onwards to the Neolithic burial chamber of Coetan Arthur and the peak of Carn Llidi. Finish up by looping back to St Davids Head.

Where to eat

For a forage-focused lunch or cake, the Really Wild Food Emporium lives up to its name with the likes of whipped goat’s cheese mousse with red valerian and Japanese knotweed, and seaweed brownies. Elsewhere, Blas Restaurant riffs on top-quality local, seasonal ingredients in accomplished dishes like Welsh lamb with hen of the woods, black garlic and roasted onion.

Where to stay

A 19th-century windmill is the basis for the slick, modern Twr Y Felin Hotel , which has 20 new rooms as of 2021. Set in landscaped grounds, it’s full of specially commissioned, large-scale contemporary artworks, which pep up the monochrome, minimalist-luxe interiors. From £250, B & B.

Try coasteering (a mix of cave swims, bouldering and cliff jumps) with adventure specialist TYF , one of the sport’s pioneers in the 1980s. It also offers all kinds of coastal activities, with guides shining a light on the area’s rich biodiversity along the way.

For a close encounter with the undergrowth, stop by The Bug Farm and Grub Kitchen , the joint venture of academic entomologist, ecologist and farmer Dr Sarah Beynon and her husband, chef Andy Holcroft. Take a romp around the bee-rich wildflower meadows and the bug-focused museum before tucking into a lunch featuring edible insects.

Construction worker who fell 8 stories to death in Hyde Park remembered as role model, hard worker

WLS logo

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The construction worker who died after falling eight stories during high winds Thursday has been identified as 27-year-old David O'Donnell.

Kevin O'Donnell, David's youngest brother, spoke with ABC7 on Friday morning, saying he was an amazing role model, the hardest worker and someone he always admired.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

"I wouldn't want anyone to go through this. I wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemy," Kevin said.

Kevin is taking life an hour at a time on Friday after his brother, David, fell eight stories to his death while working on the new University of Chicago Cancer Pavilion.

"This is just unimaginable what's happened to us. It's devastating. My parents are horribly crushed by this," Kevin said.

He was the best big brother ever Kevin O'Donnell

ABC7 spoke with Kevin in south suburban Oak Forest, where David was born and raised.

"Hardest working guy I've ever known. He was great to look up to just seeing him. He went to work every day. He worked his butt off, and I am just so proud of him," Kevin said.

Authorities say David and another worker fell from a scaffold while winds were gusting at upwards of 40 mph.

David was pronounced dead on scene while the other worker was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.

Kevin says he found out about what happened moments after getting home from work.

"I walked in to find out from my mother that my brother passed away," Kevin said.

He was supposed to be safe at work, and now, my son is never coming home again David's father

David's father did not want to speak on camera, but says his son worked for him as a technical engineer at his company, Hi-Tech Stake Out.

In a statement, David's father said, "My son was a good person and a great man. I loved him dearly, so many people do... He was supposed to be safe at work, and now, my son is never coming home again."

As Kevin honors his brother, he is left remembering the impact David had on him during his short life.

"He was the best big brother ever. He was a great role model. He was a hard worker. He was very loving to all his friends and family," Kevin said.

Back at the University of Chicago Medical Center, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration says it has opened an inspection with the company New Horizon Steel, which employed the injured worker, but not David.

OSHA says New Horizon Steel has no previous OSHA history, and the general contractor, Turner Construction, has no Illinois violations over the past five years.

The great chicago debate: should you go by plane, train or automobile.

It happens every time.

You're driving from the Twin Cities to Chicago for a fun weekend jaunt. You left home at 10 a.m. and made great time through Wisconsin. You're mentally and physically ready to check into your hotel, when the traffic sharply slows, then grinds to a halt. It's an absolute parking lot out there.

Your hopes for a speedy drive to the Windy City have died on Interstate 90 in someplace called Schaumburg. And as you watch the planes landing at nearby O'Hare airport and the Blue Line train speeding past, you think: Should we have flown?

For Minnesotans visiting Chicago, the Second City has always felt just a little too far to drive, but a little too close to fly. Now, with the introduction of the new Amtrak Borealis train route, there's an improved third option, as well.

So which is best? Let's do a common-sense thought experiment for traveling from downtown Minneapolis to the Chicago Loop, for a long weekend in July, via three different modes: plane, train or automobile. Ultimately, it depends on which criteria you value most — time, money, environmental impact or convenience.

Traffic flows along Interstate 90 as a Metra suburban commuter train moves along an elevated track in Chicago.

This is a big consideration. For driving, Google Maps estimates about 6.5 hours to complete the 409-mile trek on I-94 and I-90 — if you never stop for food, fuel and bathroom breaks. Let's figure another hour for those. And you have to leave early, say 8 a.m. or sooner — otherwise Chicagoland's aforementioned midafternoon rush will devour your time saved. Realistic total: 8 hours.

You would think flying is a lot faster, right? A flight from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Chicago O'Hare averages about 1 hour and 35 minutes (which seems slow for a 334-mile air route). But also consider the 30-minute trip to the airport, the standard advice to arrive at the airport two hours early, and a minimum of 1 hour to take the CTA train from O'Hare to your Loop hotel. If all goes well, your total time will conservatively be about 5 hours.

The new Amtrak Borealis , which debuted May 21 on the same track used by the classic Empire Builder, boasts a slimmed-down 7 hour, 24 minute travel time from St. Paul's Union Depot to Chicago's Union Station in the West Loop. Add in another hour for travel to and from the train stations. Total: 8.5 hours.

Winner: Flying.

Loser: Amtrak.

For our hypothetical July long weekend trip (Friday to Monday), we found round-trip airfares on Google Flights as low as $92 on Sun Country, $117 on United and American, and $118 on Southwest — the latter flying to Chicago Midway rather than O'Hare. (Sun Country and United's Basic Economy service charge extra for a carry-on bag, but for a summer weekend, packing just a free personal item would suffice.) Delta had the highest base fares, starting at $175.

The first page of Google Flights search results for flights from MSP to Chicago on July 5 shows base round-trip fares starting at $92.

The average midsize car in the U.S. gets a paltry 27 miles per gallon on the highway. We'll assume you brought your more efficient car and grant you 30 mph at a current gas price of $3.50 per gallon. That comes out to $95 in gas over the 818-mile round trip. We'll even depreciate your car by about $82 (10 cents a mile). You'll also pay $4-$8 in tolls on I-90 through Illinois, but at least the tollway is now compatible with Minnesota's E-Z Pass. Total: $185.

On Amtrak, we found a few July weekend fares from $91 to $112 and up.

Don't forget the costs of getting to the airport or train station via rideshare ($30-$40), light rail ($2-$2.50) or self-parking ($54-$90 at MSP; $6-$39 at Union Depot). But once you're in Chicago, you'd likely want to lose the car anyway and rely on the "L" train, rideshare and walking. Overnight hotel parking can reach $50 a night. And remember: Flight and train costs are per person, whereas the driving cost covers everyone in your vehicle.

Winner: Driving (couple or group); Amtrak or flying Sun Country (solo).

Loser: Flying Delta or driving solo.

Environment

There's no question that flying is a big carbon hog here, especially given the relatively short journey. Google Flights' results list a range of 59 to 112 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) per one-way segment — and that's per passenger. (United's and Sun Country's Boeing 737s are generally on the low end for the route, while American Airlines' regional jets are the worst.)

A screenshot of the Travel and Climate calculator's analysis of carbon emissions per person from Minneapolis to Chicago, assuming three passengers.

The Travel and Climate calculator , a public initiative from Sweden, compares the relative carbon emissions from flying vs. driving vs. train for trips around the world. For Minneapolis to Chicago, the calculator estimates 75 kilograms of CO₂, one-way, for an economy flier. For a midsize car, though, the calculator actually shows twice the carbon emissions on the trip, or 151 kilograms. The impact per person drops off with three or four auto passengers.

It's the train that charges to victory in this category, though, with only an estimated 18 kilograms of carbon emitted, per passenger. Chug, chug!

Winner: Amtrak.

Loser: Flying (couple or group); driving (solo).

Comfort, convenience and stress

Driving all day on the busy interstates will have most drivers — and passengers — wanting to book a massage when it's all over. (Personally, I like to steer clear of the heavy truck traffic on I-94 and detour on Hwy. 52 and I-90 via Rochester. But that could add at least 30 minutes.)

On a plane or train, you can just sit back and watch Wisconsin go by. The rock-bottom airfares we listed are generally for economy seating, with 29 to 32 inches of legroom. So you won't be especially comfortable on a plane, but it's just 95 minutes.

Amtrak only describes its legroom as "ample," but suffice it to say the train seating is more spacious than the economy cabin of a plane, with no middle seats. And you're allowed two free carry-ons, which is one more than Delta, American or Southwest. But 7.5 hours is a long ride.

An Amtrak passenger train sits near Chicago's Union Station in the evening. (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast)

Scheduling is also a factor. On July 5 alone, there are a whopping 24 flights on the five airlines to O'Hare or Midway, guaranteeing that you'd find a time that works for you.

Amtrak, on the other hand, only has the one daily 11:50 a.m. departure for the Borealis, which arrives in Chicago at 7:14 p.m., a little later than we might like. (Plan on a late dinner reservation.) Amtrak's Empire Builder covers the route from 8:50 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., but it might be more expensive and subject to delays.

With driving, of course, you make your own schedule — and that could be a problem. Unless you and your group are highly organized enough to get on the road early, having a scheduled 11:50 a.m. train or 3:27 p.m. flight could actually force you to travel more efficiently, saving time in the end.

Otherwise, you might find yourself spending precious hours of your Chicago getaway on the Schaumburg pavement.

Loser: Driving.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

90 day fiancé: is liz woods' ego out of control (signs it might be), 90 day fiancé's kalani faagata shocks fans with photos of new baby with boyfriend dallas nuez.

  • David Murphey moved on from Lana after their split in 2021, and debuted a new RV in 2022.
  • Murphey sparked dating rumors with co-star Amira Lollysa in 2022.
  • Despite his love for Lana, Murphey may still be single in 2024.

David Murphey from the 90 Day Fiancé franchise has moved on with his life after his breakup with his on-screen love interest, Lana . The 62-year-old Las Vegas native had a controversial relationship with his online girlfriend, which raised questions, as he had dated her for seven years without ever seeing her in person. David eventually met and proposed to Lana during his time on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days . However, the couple never tied the knot.

In February 2021, David admitted that his relationship with Lana was complicated. In November 2021, she announced that she'd split from David. Lana also revealed that 90 Day Fiancé was her last acting role, causing some speculation about the show's authenticity. Later that month, Lana debuted a drastic makeover on social media, hinting that she had started something of her own in Ukraine. Meanwhile, David embraced life in Las Vegas and made new friends. He attended a Christmas party in December 2021 with his 90 Day Fiancé family, including Larissa Lima, Tom Brooks, and his girlfriend, Mariah.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

90 Day Fiancé's David Sparked Dating Rumors After Lana Split

He seemed flirty with amira lollysa.

In early 2022, David was hanging out with another female, 90 Day Fiancé co-star, Amira Lollysa , following his split from his online girlfriend, Lana. The two were seen in Las Vegas having fun, and David even posted a video on his Instagram with the French-Egyptian beauty. While it was exciting to see the duo together, which followed some speculation that they might be in a relationship, it's unclear if they were dating at the time or not.

90 Day Fiancé's David Murphey's Biggest Achievement

He hit a milestone.

After his retirement, David planned to travel in an RV. Unfortunately, everything got delayed due to his stint on reality TV and his failed relationship with Lana. However, David did not give up. In October 2022, he made his dream come true. He built a gigantic RV and teased it on social media. In his post, David, whose face changed after weight loss , shared a work-in-progress photo of his massive ride.

The RV has over 10 wheels and a luxurious interior. The former 90 Day Fiancé franchise star looked cool, calm and collected as he leaned on his RV, showing he had finally achieved a milestone. It's good that he's focusing on more than women from foreign countries.

Does 90 Day Fiancé's David Murphey Have A New Girlfriend In 2024?

Learn about his love life.

In 2023, David shared his latest update, proudly telling his fans that he was ready to start his trip. He also showcased his beautifully finished purple ride, its marvelous features, and how he plans to take it around the U.S. David has not shared any other posts since December 2022, which shows he's enjoying the outdoors too much to care about social media. Hopefully, his trip went well.

In 2024, the celebrity, who's rumored to be wealthy, is extremely quiet. He's gone radio silent on Instagram, following his slew of RV-centered posts in 2023. This hints that he doesn't have a partner this year (2024). Since he's such a hopeless romantic, it's highly unlikely that he's hiding a relationship. He's the type who would put it all out there.

This is the man who sat in a foreign restaurant waiting to be stood up by the women he'd squandered tens of thousands of dollars on. David does not hide his love.

David Murphey May Still Love The Mysterious Lana

He was willing to go to war for her.

In the clip above, David can't face reality. He wants to go see Lana in Ukraine one more time. This is a rewind to his journey on the show. Now, in 2024, he may be quiet because his attempt to move on with Amira failed - it's possible that he hasn't gotten over Lana.

Lana seemed like his dream woman. Red flags that any thinking person might notice were ignored. Lana was taking David for a ride, extracting money from the man who thought he'd found his "forever" match. She was used to doing this - her job was to chat with foreign men. Lana was probably stringing along a bunch of them at one time. David had to pay by the minute to chat with Lana. It was such a scam, and she refused to go off that platform for his sake.

People who have to pay to talk to love interests are taking a risk. For David, the gamble did not pay off. He lost money and pride.

The saddest moment was filmed for the show. He was in Ukraine, sitting alone in a restaurant, as previously mentioned. He waited and waited. No one came. The woman who'd promised to meet him couldn't be bothered to show up, even though there way no way she didn't know how much she was hurting him. Despite this terrible insult, he persevered. He staked out Lana, going to her apartment. He wanted to see if she was real, rather than a catfish, and she was.

While she was real, she wasn't genuine. Lana seemed awkward around him, and irritated that he'd found her. This drama was riveting. It was so clear this was no love match, but he wouldn't face the truth. That's why he's now considered one of the most gullible people in 90DF history. He seemed to fetishize Ukrainian women (Lana wasn't the only one he'd chatted with) when he would have been better off trying to find a partner in his hometown. David lived in a dream world and eventually, Lana burst his bubble. They were not meant to be.

Over and over again, he made a fool out of himself - he truly loved this woman. Those who embark on virtual relationships should consider David's broken heart and proceed with caution.

David said he'd be willing to fight for Ukraine, battling Russia on the front lines. This is extreme loyalty to a woman who didn't actually want him. David may cook up a lot of romantic fantasies. He wants to play the hero. However, if he does that, the woman he's laying it all on the line for should be worthwhile. Lana may be someone's ideal partner, but when it comes to David, she's a nightmare. He may never fully recover from the game she played with him. However, it's good to see him trying.

Now in his 60s, David may choose to focus on more than finding love. He may realize that life is precious - sometimes, it's better to just let love happen, rather than chasing it. For David, the search for romance was humiliating. However, at least he has the capacity to love. Cold-hearted women like Lana, who take rather than giving, may have trouble opening their hearts. That grifter type of personality is common in those who lack empathy.

Since David can love, he is sometimes endearing, even though he's totally naive. Who knows - perhaps the 90 Day Fiancé franchise alum has found true love. However, based on his prior experiences, it's more likely that he's single. His taste for Ukrainian women led to disaster and all of it was televised. David deserves happiness, but he was looking for love in all the wrong places.

To provide you with the travel that is for your needs, our services begin with a consultation. The better we understand you and your interest the better we can plan your trip. No two travelers have the same needs. We book trips that are right for you. We are not looking to book one trip, we want to build a partnership.

Step 2 – Partnership

We want your input. Its your trip and we want to plan it around your interest, comfort level and budget. Many clients begin planning with us over a year in advance of a trip. We don’t try and fit you into a preplanned itinerary. Many of the trips we plan are one of a kind and unique to the client.

Step 3 – Research and design itinerary

Whether it’s an all-inclusive, river cruise or unique itinerary designed just for you, we book the trip that is best for you. We present an itinerary and work with you to modify until it is right for you.

Step 4 – Book

Once you’ve approved the itinerary we book the entire trip for you. From airline, cruises, tours and transfers we make sure the entire trip set. We also build your trip in Travefy – (Travefy allows you access to your entire itinerary via a mobile app and dedicated website).

Step 5 – Travel time

Enjoy your expertly planned vacation. Our services don’t end at booking. We are your travel advocate. You call us if there is a problem. Not a 1-800 number into a call center.

Step 6 – Follow up

We will follow up to find out about your trip. We want to know all about your trip and what you liked and want you would have done differently. We will document our conversation to make sure the next trip is even better.
