Air Canada's Aeroplan program: The ultimate guide to earning and redeeming points

Air Canada's Aeroplan program flies under the radar, but it is one of the most valuable and rewarding Star Alliance airline programs.

Even if you never plan to visit Canada, this is a program you should know about thanks to the ease of earning and redeeming Aeroplan points , especially on partner airlines like United Airlines .

Here is everything you need to know about Air Canada Aeroplan.

Air Canada Aeroplan overview

The Aeroplan program is the loyalty program offered by Canada's largest airline, Air Canada . It allows travelers to earn and redeem points for various travel-related rewards.

In 2020, Air Canada revamped its loyalty program to make it more flexible and member-friendly. It eliminated fuel surcharges on award flights and introduced dynamic ticket pricing, allowing for more availability but with varying mileage costs.

Perhaps most importantly, Aeroplan still uses published award charts for partner flights — a rarity in a loyalty world largely driven by dynamic pricing.

Air Canada Aeroplan partners

Air Canada is a Star Alliance member, so you can earn and redeem Aeroplan points with any participating carrier. In fact, more than two dozen airlines around the world are full members, giving you massive geographical coverage.

Some of the largest Star Alliance hubs include Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) , Frankfurt Airport (FRA) , Istanbul Airport (IST) and Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND) .

Air Canada Aeroplan elite status

Air Canada Aeroplan rewards frequent Air Canada and Star Alliance flyers with valuable perks like seat upgrades, free checked bags and other benefits across five different status tiers.

To qualify, you'll need to earn a set number of status-qualifying miles or status-qualifying segments in addition to accruing a minimum amount of status-qualifying dollars. SQMs are calculated based on your flight distance, SQSs are based on how many flights you credit to Aeroplan and SQDs are based on how much you spend on tickets. Note that SQDs are based on Canadian dollars.

Here's a look at the requirements for each status tier:

• Aeroplan 25K : 25,000 SQMs or 25 SQSs, plus 3,000 SQDs
• Aeroplan 35K : 35,000 SQMs or 35 SQSs, plus 4,000 SQDs
• Aeroplan 50K : 50,000 SQMs or 50 SQSs, plus 6,000 SQDs
• Aeroplan 75K : 75,000 SQMs or 75 SQSs, plus 9,000 SQDs
• Aeroplan Super Elite : 100,000 SQMs or 100 SQSs, plus 20,000 SQDs

You'll get more benefits with higher status tiers, including the ability to select complimentary Preferred Seating as follows:

• Aeroplan 25K and Aeroplan 35K : at check-in for all destinations
• Aeroplan 50K : anytime when traveling within Canada and the U.S. (including Hawaii) or at check-in for all other destinations
• Aeroplan 75K : anytime for all destinations
• Aeroplan Super Elite : anytime for all destinations, including on basic economy fares

You'll also earn eUpgrade certificates as you progress through status tiers. These let you upgrade flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Express and Air Canada Rouge from economy class to premium economy or business class.

As of 2023, Air Canada elite members can also pick Select Benefit Bundles that offer more rewards. Selections include bonus points earning, upgrade certificates and lounge passes. You'll have different choices at each status level.

Starting on Jan. 1, 2024, rather than choosing between eUpgrade credits and bonus SQMs, elite members will receive both:

• Aeroplan 25K : four eUpgrade credits and 750 SQMs
• Aeroplan 35K : six eUpgrade credits and 1,000 SQMs
• Aeroplan 50K : eight eUpgrade credits and 1,250 SQMs
• Aeroplan 75K : 10 eUpgrade credits and 1,500 SQMs

How to earn Air Canada Aeroplan points

It's surprisingly easy to earn Air Canada Aeroplan points, even if you're not flying Air Canada.

Flying with Air Canada

Unlike most U.S. carriers, Air Canada has continued to award points based on flight distance. You also need to factor your fare class into your calculations. Some fares earn as little as 10% of miles flown, while business-class fares earn 150% of miles flown.

Here's a look at how much each fare earns:

Those with Air Canada elite status can choose to earn bonus points on Air Canada flights (if chosen as a Select Benefit Bundle in 2023; automatically granted in 2024). Here's a breakdown of how many bonus points each tier earns:

• Aeroplan 25K : 25%
• Aeroplan 35K : 35%
• Aeroplan 50K : 50%

Flying with Star Alliance and non-alliance partners

You'll earn points the same way when flying with an Air Canada partner, but the number of points you'll earn per mile flown varies by airline. You can find your partner's earning chart on Air Canada's airline partner page . Just find your partner on the list and click on it.

Earn points with the Air Canada Aeroplan credit card

New Chase Aeroplan® Credit Card applicants can earn 70,000 points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months your account is open.

TPG values Aeroplan 70,000 points at 1.5 cents each, making this sign-up bonus worth $1,050. Despite such a valuable welcome bonus, the Chase Aeroplan card has an annual fee of just $95.

With triple points in multiple categories, monthly bonus points, statement credits, Aeroplan elite status and discounted award pricing, this is an incredibly valuable card, especially if you ever fly Air Canada.

Those based in Canada have a few different options for Aeroplan credit cards. Three banks issue Aeroplan cards in Canada, and each card has different benefits, fees and points-earning rates. You'll want to assess each card and see which fits your needs and budget best. On the high end, you'll get benefits like free checked luggage, lounge access and a valuable welcome bonus.

Transferring credit card points to Aeroplan

Earning with retail partners

Air Canada has a shopping portal that lets you earn Aeroplan points with third-party vendors, such as Apple, Uber Eats and other popular merchants. You can click through the merchant's link on the Air Canada eStore before you make a purchase, and you'll earn a set number of points per dollar spent on your purchase. This can be a great way to earn bonus points on everyday purchases.

Note: Not all Air Canada retail partners are valid for points-earning purchases in the U.S. and Canada. Some are Canada-only, so double-check on the partner page before purchasing.

How to redeem Air Canada Aeroplan points

You can use your Aeroplan points to fly worldwide; Air Canada offers a huge route network by itself, but its long list of alliance and non-alliance partners expands this list even further.

Unlike many U.S. carriers, Air Canada has kept a standard award chart. This means you can book award flights at predictable prices. It also removed fuel surcharges , so you'll only pay minimal taxes plus a 39 Canadian dollar (about $29) partner booking fee (if applicable).

Aeroplan's award chart

Aeroplan employs a hybrid distance- and region-based award chart. You'll pay based on your flight length, but pricing varies based on the region you fly to and from. You'll notice that each is very broadly defined.

To find the cost of an award, determine the regions you're flying from and to. Then, calculate the distance between your origin and destination using a tool like Great Circle Mapper . Next, find the award chart for your region pair in the Air Canada award chart to determine the cost of your flight.

Flights with standard saver award space will price at the lower end of the spectrum, while flights without this will price higher.

Air Canada for Business

Air Canada has a business rewards program dubbed Air Canada for Business . As of Oct. 3, Air Canada for Business temporarily paused new enrollments, stating the program is "evolving to provide you with updated benefits for business travelers in the coming months."

Businesses can use this program to earn rewards when employees book trips on Air Canada or select Lufthansa Group airlines like Lufthansa, Swiss and Brussels Airlines. These rewards are earned in addition to whatever the employee earns on their flights, so it's a win-win for the business and the employee.

These rewards aren't standard Aeroplan points. Instead, they're separate rewards currency that can be redeemed for things like Maple Leaf lounge passes, eUpgrade certificates and preferred seating discounts, among other perks.

The best ways to redeem Air Canada Aeroplan points

The Aeroplan award chart is full of interesting sweet spots and great deals. Here are some of the best ways to maximize the award chart and the program's interesting features, such as stopovers on one-way award tickets.

Book a mini round-the-world trip with stopovers

You can add one stopover to one-way tickets and two stopovers to round-trip tickets for 5,000 points apiece. These stopovers can be anywhere in the world, and Aeroplan lets you get creative with your routing.

The only major restriction to remember is that your connecting flight cannot require more than double the mileage cost of a nonstop flight to your final destination. This opens up a lot of interesting bookings. For example, you can book a mini round-the-world trip that takes advantage of a stopover, two round-trip tickets and multiple 24-hour layovers. Even better, you can now book stopover tickets online, but you may need to call in to book more complex itineraries with additional layovers.

Fly domestically on United from 6,000 points

You can book economy flights on United Airlines within the continental U.S. and Canada from just 6,000 Aeroplan points for flights up to 500 miles in length, such as from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to many destinations in the Northeast.

Book high-surcharge tickets without surcharges

Air Canada has joined United MileagePlus and Avianca LifeMiles in dropping fuel surcharges from Star Alliance award tickets. So, if you're debating where to transfer your Amex points or Capital One miles, consider transferring to Aeroplan to save on large fuel surcharges.

Fly business class from the East Coast to Europe

Many flights from the East Coast to Europe fall into the zero to 4,000 miles tier on the North America-to-Atlantic award chart. These flights cost just 60,000 points in business class and 90,000 points in first class, so they're a great way to hop across the Atlantic. These options are cheaper than what other Star Alliance programs, such as Avianca LifeMiles and United MileagePlus, charge for the same flights.

Fly business class to India for 85,000 points

You can book Star Alliance partners like United, Air India and Turkish Airlines between the U.S. and India for just 85,000 points each way in business class or 55,000 points in economy class. Best of all, there are no fuel surcharges.

Bottom line

Air Canada's Aeroplan loyalty program is great. Solid redemption rates, flexible stopovers and no fuel surcharges mean you can get some excellent deals on award tickets. It also partners with many of the largest transferable points programs , so you may be sitting on a variety of rewards that can ultimately become Aeroplan points.

Even if you aren't planning to visit Canada or fly on Air Canada, you should consider the program for your next points transfer or major redemption.

United Airlines to offer free WiFi with Elon Musk’s Starlink

Starlink is already on flights from Hawaiian Airlines and Latvian airline AirBaltic.

United Airlines will soon become the second legacy U.S. carrier offering free in-flight WiFi to travelers when it introduces Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink.

Beginning sometime next year, the carrier will offer all fliers free in-flight WiFi on planes equipped with the Starlink service, which uses SpaceX satellites to connect to the internet. United plans to roll out Starlink WiFi to its entire fleet, representing of more than 1,000 aircraft, over the next several years.

“Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do onboard a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world,” United CEO Scott Kirby said in an announcement Friday.

Once a rare amenity, in-flight WiFi is now standard on most flights in the United States. Nearly every airline offers some form of connectivity for a fee. Currently, United charges MileagePlus members $8 and nonmembers $10 to log on.

Delta Air Lines was the first legacy airline to offer free in-flight WiFi on domestic flights to members of its loyalty program, SkyMiles, in February 2023. The carrier expanded the offering to select international flights this August.

Smaller carriers Hawaiian Airlines and JetBlue also offer free in-flight connectivity. Hawaiian and boutique carrier JSX both offer Starlink connectivity on flights in the United States, and Latvian airline AirBaltic uses it in Europe.

Alaska Airlines , Southwest Airlines and United also offer all fliers free messaging via their existing in-flight WiFi services.

And travelers are logging on. According to data from the Airline Passenger Experience Association , nearly 1 in 5 fliers in the United States connect to in-flight WiFi.

“Airlines offering free WiFi to everyone on board with no strings attached is still a relative rarity,” said Jason Rabinowitz, head of content creation for travel technology company ATPCO . “Plenty of airlines now offer free messaging plans, but airline passengers are still hesitant to pay for full internet access.”

Airline executives claim that Starlink is superior to existing in-flight WiFi offerings.

“The demand for bandwidth in the sky is not slowing, just like on the ground,” said Seth Miller, an airline analyst and editor of the PaxEx.Aero website, who has tried Starlink WiFi on a Hawaiian flight. “Starlink manages to deliver that for airlines with lower latency than the prior generation of satellites, further improving the connected passenger experience.”

That means travelers can stream their favorite programs or even take a Zoom meeting — at the risk of irritating their seatmates — during a flight.

Alaska Airlines plane aborts takeoff to avoid collision with Southwest jet

An Alaska Airlines  airplane aborted takeoff on a runway at Tennessee's Nashville International Airport on Thursday to avoid a potential collision with a Southwest Airlines jet, the airline said.

Alaska Airlines 369, a Boeing 737 MAX 9 airplane with 176 passengers and six crew on board, aborted takeoff around 9:15 a.m. ET due to a potential traffic conflict after it had received clearance for takeoff from air traffic control, the airline said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Southwest Airlines Flight 2029 – a Boeing 737-700 – had been cleared to cross the end of the same runway and the agency is investigating the incident.

The Alaska pilots immediately applied the brakes to prevent the incident from escalating, the carrier added. The plane had been scheduled to fly to Seattle, and passengers were being moved to a new plane.

The FAA and Alaska said the 737 MAX 9's tires were blown during braking.

Southwest did not immediately comment. Alaska said maintenance technicians in Nashville were inspecting the aircraft.

Last year, a series of near-miss incidents raised concerns about U.S. aviation safety and the strain on understaffed air traffic control operations.

FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker told reporters on Wednesday that the number of serious runway incursion incidents had fallen by over 50% but "we continue to work the issue by creating more technology for controllers, more technology in the arrival facilities."

In June, the National Transportation Safety Board found that incorrect assumptions on the part of an air traffic controller led to a February 2023 near-collision between a FedEx plane and a Southwest aircraft in Austin, Texas.

The two planes came within about 170 feet (52 meters) of each other when the FedEx Boeing 767 was forced to fly over the Southwest 737-700 to avoid a crash in poor visibility conditions.

NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said in June the board wants low-visibility training for controllers and faster deployment of technology at airports and cockpit alerts to prevent future near-collisions.

"This should serve as a wake-up call to so many – these are warning signs and that means take action now," Homendy said.

Atlanta airport incident: Delta plane knocks tail off another in taxiway collision, airline, FAA say

ATLANTA -- Two Delta Air Lines planes collided as both were taxiing for takeoff from Atlanta's busy Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Tuesday morning.

The wingtip of a Delta Airbus A350 "came into contact" with a Delta CRJ 900 regional jet operated by Endeavor Airlines, Delta Air Lines spokesperson Anthony Black said.

Nobody was injured in the collision and the passengers of the regional flight were taken back to the terminal by bus, Black said.

Photos obtained by CNN and posted to social media show the vertical tail of the regional flight separated from the rest of the airplane flanked by airport rescue vehicles.

Passengers will be placed on alternate flights, Delta said in a statement. There were 221 passengers on the Airbus and 56 customers on the regional jet, the airline said.

Publicly available information from the Federal Aviation Administration shows the impacted runway is closed and several taxiways nearby are also closed.

"While Delta Air Lines Flight 295 was taxiing for departure at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, its wingtip struck the tail of Endeavor Air Flight 5526. The Delta Airbus A350 was headed to Tokyo. The Endeavor Bombardier CRJ900 was headed to Lafayette, Louisiana," the FAA said in a statement.

The FAA said it is investigating what happened and Delta said it is cooperating with the National Transportation Safety Board "and other authorities" over the incident.

Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International was the No. 1 airport for passenger volume in 2023 and is expected to serve about 110 million passengers in 2024, according to Airports Council International's preliminary rankings for 2023, released in April.

Heart Aerospace Unveils First Full-Scale Demonstrator for 30-seat Hybrid-Electric Airplane

Heart Aerospace, the Swedish hybrid-electric airplane maker, today unveils its first full-scale demonstrator airplane, marking a major milestone in the development of its regional hybrid-electric aircraft, the ES-30.

Built almost entirely in-house at Heart’s Gothenburg facilities, the demonstrator reflects the company’s strategy to simultaneously develop both the design and production processes.

“O ur industry is approaching a 30-year innovation cycle, and we have less than 25 years to decarbonize aviation. We need to develop new methods to get net zero aerospace technologies to market faster,” says Anders Forslund, co-founder and CEO of Heart Aerospace. “It is a testament to the ingenuity and dedication of our team that we’re able to roll out a 30-seat aircraft demonstrator with a brand-new propulsion system, largely inhouse, in less than two years. “

With a commanding 32-meter wingspan, the demonstrator, named Heart Experimental 1 (Heart X1), will serve as a platform for rigorous testing and development of Heart’s ES-30 aircraft.

Initially, the HX-1 will be used for ground-based testing, focusing on charging operations, taxiing, and turnaround procedures. It is scheduled to undertake a fully electric first flight in the second quarter of 2025. I n preparation for this flight, Heart will over the coming months, test critical systems by running hardware tests both on and off the airplane.

Development of the Heart X1 has been funded in part by grants provided by the Swedish Innovation Agency, Vinnova, highlighting the essential collaboration between government and industry that is needed to bring new aviation technologies to market.

“Developing innovative net zero aerospace technologies demands a revolution in product development and manufacturing, much like what we’ve witnessed in the automotive and space industries,” said Ben Stabler, Chief Technology Officer at Heart Aerospace. 

Building on the experience of developing the Heart X1, Heart is now focused on creating a state-of-the-art aircraft manufacturing process that leans into the latest technologies in composite manufacturing and product lifecycle management, building a data-driven assembly line with high repeatability, automation and non-destructive inspection.

Heart’s next step in developing the ES-30 is the building of a pre-production prototype, the Heart X2, which will further mature the design and production methods based on lessons learned from the Heart X1.

The Heart X2 is scheduled for a hybrid-electric flight in 2026 and will demonstrate the company’s Independent Hybrid propulsion system. In August, Heart Aerospace was selected for a $4.1 million grant by the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Fuelling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition (FAST) program to develop the management system for the hybrid-electric propulsion.

This momentum will continue with the establishment of a pilot manufacturing plant to accelerate prototyping toward the manufacturing of a fully conforming aircraft, with Heart targeting type certification of the ES-30 by the end of the decade.

The ES-30 is a regional hybrid-electric airplane with a standard seating capacity of 30 passengers, which promises to deliver unparalleled sustainability and efficiency on short-haul routes. With an electric zero-emission range of 200 kilometres and an extended hybrid range of 400 kilometres.

Tail cone believed to be from Boeing C-17 lands in school parking lot: source

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCIV) — Part of a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft fell out of the sky and landed in a South Carolina school parking lot Thursday afternoon, according to a source.

A high-ranking military pilot told WCIV it was a rear tail cone of a Boeing C-17. Additionally, the military was made aware the object flew off a plane.

A viewer submitted a photo of what is believed to be a part of the plane.

The source said the incident happened outside Divine Redeemer School in Hanahan around 4 p.m.

The plane later landed safely after a malfunction in flight, Joint Base Charleston officials detailed Thursday night.

The crew of the C-17 notified Joint Base Charleston and returned to base.

A team recovered the piece of the aircraft and no injuries or property damage were reported, officials said.

The incident is under investigation.

Between making sure your suitcase isn't an ounce over the weight limit and rushing to your gate before the doors close, air travel can be a stressful experience — but it doesn't have to be. We've rounded up 25 things you should do before your next flight, so you can relax and know that you're totally prepared.

1. Download and Use Your Airline’s App

Unless you're checking a bag, there's no reason to queue up at the check-in desk or deal with a fingerprint-smudged kiosk at the airport. Download your airline's app ahead of time, make sure your reservation details are in, and then use it to check in. That way, you can head straight to security when you arrive at the airport. Delta's app, for example, will even check you in automatically 24 hours in advance of your flight.

2. Get the Airline Credit Card

Don't fly enough to earn elite status? Airline credit cards offer cardholders perks similar to elites, including free checked bags and priority boarding. Carrying one of these cards can save you money on luggage and ensure you'll find carry-on space in the overhead bins ahead of the crowd.

3. Have a Status Strategy

Speaking of airline status, if you are going for gold (or silver, or platinum) this year, make sure your frequent-flier number is attached to all your airline reservations. Even if you're not flying your usual carriers, chances are the airline you're on is partners with another you fly more frequently thanks to alliances. That way, you can earn airline miles toward status on every single flight you take.

4. Check Aircraft Alternatives

Seats and amenities can vary dramatically, even from plane to plane within a single family of jets in a particular airline's fleet. Once you settle on an airline, double-check the aircraft type and seat map on the carrier's site to make sure you're flying the plane you want.

5. Assess Your Seating Situation

Whether you like a window or an aisle , it's worth checking SeatGuru 's detailed seat maps to confirm your chosen place on the plane won't be too close to the galley or the lavatories, with their associated noises (and smells!).

6. Stay Organized

Keep all your information in one place by using App in the Air or TripIt , two apps that do things like consolidate your flight statuses, check-in times, gate numbers, and nearby lounge locations, and will update you on schedule and gate changes.

7. Check Real-time Reports

Stay informed about your flight's status by using your airline's proprietary app. But you can also take it a step further by using FlightStats to track flight statuses, on-time performances, weather conditions, and even the flight history of your specific aircraft, all in real-time so that if your plane is delayed, you can be the first to know and the first to get rebooked.

8. Remember the Liquid Lowdown

Remember, any liquids you're carrying through TSA checkpoints must be less than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and placed in a see-through bag no larger than a quart.

9. Sign Up for PreCheck, Already

Keep those shoes and belts on, leave the liquids and laptops in your bag, and forgo the full-body scans by getting TSA PreCheck . You could pay $70 for PreCheck itself or $100 for Global Entry , which also confers PreCheck (usually) and expedited immigration and customs access. Several credit cards, including the Capital One Venture and the Bank of America Premium Rewards card, will even refund you the application fee for either program.

Many airlines have instituted strict size limits for carry-on bags, which are stringently enforced by eagle-eyed gate agents. Check your bag's dimensions at home and make sure they adhere to your airline's limits. Keep in mind that European carriers' limits vary slightly from those in the U.S. Blame it on standard versus metric.

Airlines instituted smart luggage battery bans in January 2018. If your bag has a battery pack, be prepared to show that it is removable in case your bag has to be gate-checked. But don't leave that battery pack at home, necessarily. Just because your airplane seat is supposed to have power ports does not guarantee that they'll actually work when you're on the plane.

Hate airplane food, but afraid you'll miss boarding while waiting in a line at an airport restaurant? Use the Grab app to pre-order and pay for items at participating restaurants and vendors at airports in the U.S., Mexico, and across Europe. Place your order on your ride to the airport and pick it up on your way to the gate without breaking stride.

Many airports offer free Wi-Fi , but beware of hackers. Using a VPN offers a measure of protection.

Why wait at the gate when you can enjoy free Wi-Fi and snacks in the comfort of a lounge? Airplane cabin climate settings seem to vacillate between icebox and toaster oven, with no habitable happy medium in between. It's time to invest in a quality travel pillow that will spare your neck and back the worst effects of a long flight .

19. Bring Your Own Bottle

Avoid single-use plastic (and a bottle of water that costs $8 post-security) by bringing an empty travel water bottle with you instead. Some are even collapsible to save you space, and more airports have installed water bottle filling stations next to drinking fountains to make carrying your own that much more convenient.

20. Disinfect Everything

Due to the number of people passing through and touching everything, airports and airplanes are some of the germiest places around (though in the post-pandemic world, many airlines are taking additional steps to ensure your safety). Protect yourself as much as possible by using disinfecting wipes on your hands and your airplane seat once you get settled. Because they're not liquid, like hand sanitizer, wipes will also not count toward your carry-on liquid limit.

21. Moisturize Like Your Life Depends on It

Even on next-generation jets like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350, cabin humidity levels rarely top 20 percent (and are only around 8-10 percent on conventional aircraft). To avoid looking like a prune after your flight, pack a light moisturizer and apply it frequently.

Flying across multiple time zones? Use an app like Entrain or Timeshifter before you fly. Both help you gradually shift your pre-travel schedule toward your destination time zone based on your specific plans and preferences so that by the time you fly, you're already ahead of jet lag.

What is the cheapest day of the week to book a flight?

The best day to book your flight depends on a number of factors, but there are general trends that you can follow to increase your chances of cheaper plane tickets. Based on an analysis of KAYAK data for all flights departing from inside United States over the last 12 months, the cheapest day to fly for domestic flights is Wednesday. For international flights, Tuesday had the cheapest tickets on average.

Which month of the year are flight prices lowest?

It’s well established that flights in the low season are generally cheaper than ticket prices during the high season. That means that knowing which month to find the lowest priced plane tickets will depend heavily on seasonality and your destination. While avoiding peak travel times can help you keep costs down, our data shows that the month with the lowest priced plane tickets for domestic flights based on all searches made on KAYAK in the last 12 months was January, while the most expensive was July. If you’re booking an international flight, then January is the cheapest month to fly and June the most expensive.

When is the best time to buy plane tickets - Last minute or in advance?

Last minute flight deals are definitely up for grabs but when exactly to purchase your plane tickets will depend on where you’re traveling to and from. Based on all data for flight searches made on KAYAK over the last 12 months, prices for domestic flights remained below the average price up to 1 weeks before departure. For international flights, deals could still be had up to 1 weeks prior to the departure date, with prices remaining below average. If you’re flexible, KAYAK brings you both advance and last minute one-way and round-trip flight deals.

Can flying international flights with a layover save money on airfare?

For many long-haul international flights, flying non-stop is not possible and you will have to fly with a layover. Some routes will offer both and you could consider flying with a layover for a number of reasons. Firstly, breaking up what would otherwise be a long-haul flight, taking a rest and then completing the journey might make the flight more manageable. Secondly, prices can also be lower than non-stop flights, so while it might take longer for you to reach your destination, you could save money. We’ve looked at prices over the last 12 months for the 100 most popular international destinations for KAYAK users and on average, prices for non-stop flights were cheaper than flights with a layover.

Unaccompanied minors

Children traveling alone.

We want your child to have a safe and positive trip. For safety, we require children age 5 – 14 traveling alone to use our unaccompanied minor service. This service is optional for children age 15 – 17, but if requested, then the fee applies.

The unaccompanied minor fee is $150 each way, plus applicable taxes*, in addition to the ticket price. This fee covers additional siblings on the same flight.

* Flights within the U.S. are subject to a 7% tax.

Unaccompanied minor service

Our service includes:

• Early boarding to allow extra time to get settled and meet the flight attendants
• Kids-only lounges in our hub cities for flight connections
• An airport escort to help your child to the gate for flight connections
• Escorting the child to the authorized adult picking them up when they land

Keep in mind, our flight attendants will be busy with onboard duties and can’t continuously monitor your child during their flight. Let your child know to ring the call button if they need anything.

We don’t allow children to travel alone when their trips include:

• Flights on another airline including codeshare and one world® partners
• Ground or co-terminal connections where the child must transfer from one local airport to another
• The last flight of the day from the final connection city (unless it’s the only flight)
• Overnight connecting flights

Note: Children ages 2 – 14 can travel as an 'accompanied minor' with someone 16 or older.

Preparing for travel

Whether your child has traveled alone or this is their first time, we recommend talking with them about the trip and what to expect. Assure them our team is there to help keep them safe.

Some helpful tips to prepare:

• Point out our team uniforms at the airport. Remind your child to ask for help only from a uniformed team member.
• Write down phone numbers for your child.
• Pack games, books and money in one small carry-on.
• Food and drink service is limited, so we recommend packing snacks for your child to enjoy during their flight.
• Attach an ID card and contact information to your child’s carry-on bag or jacket.
• Fully charge any electronic devices, and don’t forget to pack chargers and headphones.
• Be sure your child knows to wait for a team member to walk them off the plane when they land (this includes older children using our service).

Note: We don’t hold or give personal medication to an unaccompanied child.

At the airport

Check-in and required documents.

Arrive at least 2 hours before the scheduled departure time of your child’s flight and speak with a ticket counter agent. Children traveling alone can’t check in online or at the kiosk.

You’ll need to fill out an unaccompanied minor form and any necessary Customs and Immigration documents for the day of departure. This form must remain with your child during their journey. At check-in, parents / guardians will also need to provide:

• A birth certificate or passport as proof of the child’s age
• The adult’s government-issued photo ID with their current address
• Your phone number so we can contact you
• The name, address and phone number of the adult meeting your child at their destination

Once your child is checked in, the ticket agent will give you a security pass from the airport ticket counter so you can take your child to the gate.

Boarding and takeoff

For a smooth departure:

• An adult must take the child to the departure gate and stay until the flight is airborne.
• When you get to the gate, tell the gate agent you have an unaccompanied minor traveling on the flight.
• We’ll board your child early so they can meet the flight crew and learn about the plane’s safety features.
• The gate agent will let you know when the flight is airborne and you can leave the airport.
• Please contact the adult picking up your child to let them know they’re on their way.

During the flight

Our flight attendants will check on your child as duties allow, but they can’t continuously monitor your child throughout the flight.

Please remind your child to:

• Tell a flight attendant if he or she needs assistance or feels discomfort.
• Follow plane safety instructions, like wearing their seatbelt.
• Wait for a uniformed team member to escort them off the airplane once it arrives at the gate.

Unaccompanied minor lounges

If your child has a connection, we have lounges for unaccompanied minors in these airports:

While there, your child can wait for their connection and play games while supervised by American business partner personnel. These staff members will take your child outside the lounge to buy food and drinks, but they won’t be allowed to walk around outside alone.

Arrival and pick-up

For a seamless pick-up, don’t forget your government-issued photo ID. You’ll need to show it to get a security pass and meet the child at the gate (in the U.S.). You’ll also need to show it before we release the child to you.

We suggest arriving at least 2 hours before the child’s scheduled arrival so you have enough time.

Flight status and notifications

Stay connected with your child’s journey with flight notifications and remind the adult picking up your child from the airport to do the same. Be sure to get alerts for all flights in their trip.

If your child misses a connecting flight due to delays or cancellations, we’ll contact the people listed on the unaccompanied minor form and arrange a different flight on American.

In the unlikely event that your child misses a connection and needs to stay overnight, we’ll arrange for accommodations, meals, and supervision. We’ll contact you if this happens.

We may not accept unaccompanied minors if weather or other factors are expected to disrupt flights in one or more cities on their itinerary. If disruptions occur, our team will work to rebook unaccompanied minors on another suitable American flight. We’ll contact you if this happens.

Young adults (15 – 17 years of age)

If your young adult isn’t using the unaccompanied minor service and their flight is delayed or canceled, they will be accommodated as an adult customer. Keep in mind, many hotels won’t allow young people to check-in unless they are accompanied by an adult. Please remind them not to leave the airport for any reason unless they:

• Are accompanied by a uniformed team member or police officer
• Have spoken with a parent or designated adult

Please tell your young adult to speak to a team member if they have questions or need help.

Children traveling outside the U.S.

You may not be able to escort your child through security in some airports. If this is the case, a team member will take your child to the gate and stay with them until the flight departs.

Children under 18 may need a Letter of Consent to travel internationally without both parents.

Country-specific regulations

Some countries have additional restrictions for children traveling with guardians or as an unaccompanied minor.

If your child is traveling unaccompanied or with only one parent, you’ll need:

• The child's birth certificate
• Notarized travel authorization from both parents

The Brazilian Embassy or Consulate must issue, authenticate or legalize this travel authorization.

Contact the consulate in the child’s country of residence or check the National Council of Justice site for more information.

Italian citizens younger than 14 traveling internationally must have their Individual Passport and Dichiarazione di Accompagno (Declaration of Temporary Guardianship for Travel Abroad). The document must include:

• The signature of a parent or legal guardian
• Authentication by local Police Headquarters
• The name of the airline the child will use

For children with a document proving another nationality (not Italian), check with the local Italian embassy or consulate in their residence country or the embassy or consulate of their destination country for requirements.

Children younger than 18 (at time of travel) and traveling alone to or from Mexico must have a travel authorization letter. This letter must be:

• Signed by at least one parent or legal guardian

All children should present their own passport and meet the requirements of their destination.

Spanish authorities require that all Spanish children traveling alone, with only one parent or with a third party have a travel permit requested by the parents or legal guardians. This permit must be issued by one of these: Police, Civil Guard, Notary’s Office or Town Hall.

For children with a document proving another nationality (not Spanish) and living in Spain, go to the consulate to complete the necessary paperwork.

A Guide to Proper Airplane Etiquette

Follow these 10 rules for a smoother flight and friendlier skies, manners experts say​.

What’s gotten into airplane passengers lately? In 2019, the Federal Aviation Administration investigated 146 cases of bad behavior ; in 2021 it initiated investigations into 1,081 incidents, out of a total of 5,981 reports of unruly passengers last year.

“Somehow when people get to the airport these days, they’ve forgotten everything their mother taught them,” says Lydia Ramsey, an etiquette expert based in Savannah, Georgia. She describes taking a recent flight where, during boarding, “a woman came charging up and literally pushed me out of the way so that she could get on. I don’t understand it. It just makes it difficult for everybody else.”

The first rule of respectful travel is to accept the rules: Observe mask mandates, boarding processes and carry-on restrictions. Beyond that, there are steps you can take to make travel a little more pleasant for everyone and avoid conflict. Ramsey and Jacqueline Whitmore, a former flight attendant and the founder of the Protocol School of Palm Beach in Florida, offer their guidance.

1. Be prepared.

This is especially true at airport security . “You know you’re going to have to take your shoes and your jacket off,” says Ramsey. “So don’t wait till you put your bag on the belt before you start doing those things and hold everybody up.”

2. Greet the flight attendants.

When you’re getting on the flight, acknowledge the flight attendants. Speak to them, smile at them — even with a mask on, people can still see a smile in your eyes,” Ramsey suggests, noting how tough these jobs have been lately.

3. Don’t hog the overhead bins.

“I’ve noticed that some people as soon as they see a space, shove their bag in as quickly as they can and hope they’re not going to get caught, even if they’re at the back of the plane,” says Ramsey. “You need to put your bag over your own seat.” And don’t shove coats and extra bags up there, either, she adds.

4. Be sensitive to your seatmate .

“Acknowledge this person with a greeting as you’re starting off and then you can read the other person to see whether they want to talk or not,” Ramsey suggests. “But most people really want to find some peace and quiet. If the other person is chatty, politely excuse yourself. That’s the time to bring out your book or put your headphones on and just say, ‘Excuse me, I’m going to read my book now.’”

5. Give the middle passenger a break.

Let that person in the middle seat have the armrests. “That’s really the only thing that middle person has,” says Whitmore. “They don’t have the view or the access to the aisle.”

6. Don’t bring stinky food on board.

Sometimes people bring on the smelliest, most awful things with them,” says Ramsey. “I think people should try to stay away from anything that’s going to have a strong odor.”

7. Think before you recline.

It can be uncomfortable to sit straight up on the airplane, Whitmore notes. “But you also need to be mindful of how your behavior affects other people. You shouldn’t keep your seat reclined during mealtime, for instance. And if someone behind you is trying to do some work on their laptop and asks you to move the seat up a little bit, then try your best to comply.”

8. Control the kids.

Traveling with young companions? “Make sure they’re not bothering other passengers, like kicking the seat in front of them,” says Ramsey. “That will really get the ire of the person in front of you.”

9. Watch the alcohol. 

Because  drinking lowers inhibitions , it can fuel conflict. Be aware that you aren’t allowed to consume alcohol you bring aboard, and that airline staff are prohibited from allowing onboard anyone who appears to be intoxicated.

10. Don’t escalate a conflict.  

If another passenger is behaving badly, don’t get in an argument, etiquette pros (and airline officials) advise. In most cases, you should notify a flight attendant and follow the directions of airline staff.

History of Omsk

Foundation of omsk.

The need to build a Russian fortress on the banks of the Irtysh at the mouth of the Om River arose in connection with the steppe nomadic peoples. In particular, with the Oirats, whose tribes in the first decades of the 17th century began to appear within the borders of the Russian state being under the onslaught of their external enemies and as a result of internal civil strife. However, various foreign and domestic political problems of Russia hindered the development and defense of the South Siberian borders.

The situation changed only at the beginning of the 18th century, when the Russian conquest of Siberia intensified. Since Peter I paid great attention to geographical research in the south, the expeditions of that time combined socio-political tasks and tasks of scientific research.

One of such expeditions was led by the Russian military and statesman, associate of Peter I, Major General Ivan Bukhgolts. The goals of the expedition, numbering about 3,000 people, were to search for ore and gold deposits, the discovery of trade routes to India and China, as well as the construction of towns on the Irtysh River.

The expedition left Tobolsk to the south along the Irtysh in July 1715. In the spring of 1716, after a conflict with the Dzungars in the north of today’s Kazakhstan, the remnants of the expedition (about 700 people) withdrew to the mouth of the Om River, where they laid a new fortress named Omsky ostrog (fortified settlement).

According to the census of 1725, 992 people lived in the fortress, in 1742 - 1,092 people. From the first years of its existence, it served as a place of exile for prisoners. After serving hard labor and imprisonment, a lot of them stayed in Omsk for permanent residence.

Omsk in the second half of the 18th century

The ethnic composition of the region’s population was formed in the process of settling the territory. Russians, Germans, Ukrainians, Poles, Belarusians, and representatives of many other nationalities were sent here to serve or were exiled. The indigenous people of the region were the Siberian Tatars and Kazakhs, who switched to a sedentary lifestyle.

The foundation of the second Omsk fortress took place in 1762. The first fortress, although it occupied a favorable geographical position, was wooden and, by the middle of the 18th century, it was dilapidated. In 1765, new stone fortifications were constructed. The first stone structure of the fortress was the Resurrection Military Cathedral, built in 1773 and preserved to this day.

In the end of the 18th century, the Omsk fortress was one of the largest structures in the eastern part of the Russian Empire, its area was more than 30 hectares. In 1782, it was transformed into a town named Omsk within the Tobolsk Governorate. In 1785, the coat of arms of Omsk was approved.

Omsk became the center of management of the Siberian transport routes and the Siberian Cossack army, which not only guarded the South Siberian borders, but also made a huge contribution to the economic development of the steppe expanses of Kazakhstan, the annexation of Central Asia to the Russian Empire.

Omsk in the 19th century

The fire of 1819 destroyed almost half of the town including the archive and the magistrate of Omsk with all the first archival documents. Therefore information about the life of Omsk in the 18th - early 19th centuries is scarce and fragmentary. In 1825, the population of the town was about 9,000 people.

In 1829, the town’s development plan was approved. It was made by the famous Petersburg architect V.I. Geste, who took the city of St. Petersburg as a model with its wide avenues, huge neighborhoods, fountains, cast-iron bridges, and an abundance of green spaces.

The composition of the population of Omsk was not quite usual. In the middle of the 19th century, since Omsk was the center of the military and civil administration, the proportion of the military in the local population reached about 60%.

Fyodor Dostoevsky (one of the greatest psychological novelists in world literature), who served a term of hard labor in the Omsk prison in 1850-1854, in a letter to his brother gave Omsk the following description: “Omsk is a disgusting town. There are almost no trees. In summer, heat and wind with sand, in winter, a snowstorm. I have not seen nature. The town is dirty, military and highly depraved.”

By the second half of the 19th century, Omsk in its development outstripped many steppe towns and became not only an administrative, but also a commercial and industrial center. In 1861, in Omsk, there were 2,122 houses (31 stone houses), 34 factories and plants, about 20 thousand residents.

In 1892, the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway began, which gave a new impetus to the economy of Siberian towns and positively influenced Omsk. The development of the Trans-Siberian Railway caused an increase in the urban population due to migrants who came to work from the central part of the Russian Empire. According to the 1897 census, 37.3 thousand people lived in Omsk. The town had 14 streets with a total length of more than 140 km and 13 squares.

Omsk in the first half of the 20th century

The beginning of the 20th century was a time of great changes for Siberia. Mass peasant colonization caused a sharp leap in the development of the region’s economy, primarily its agrarian sector, and the Trans-Siberian Railway ensured the inclusion of the local economy in the system of the All-Russian and European markets.

Due to its favorable economic and geographical position - at the intersection of the railway and the Irtysh River, in the middle of a vast agricultural territory - Omsk quickly turned into a large transport, trade and industrial center of Western Siberia and Governor-Generalship of the Steppes (Eastern and Central Kazakhstan).

Wholesale trade in bread, butter and other agricultural products was concentrated here. Omsk also became one of the industrial, social and cultural centers of Western Siberia. By 1903, the city’s population grew to 60 thousand people. In 1914, it had about 134.8 thousand residents. Omsk became the most populous city in Siberia.

During the Civil War on the territory of the former Russian Empire, from June 1918 to November 1919, Omsk was the residence of the Supreme Ruler of Russia, Admiral Alexander Kolchak, who declared this city the capital of white Russia opposing red Russia of the Bolsheviks. Soviet power was finally established in the city in 1920.

In the summer of 1921, an event took place that had a decisive impact on the cultural and economic life of Omsk. The functions of the administrative center of Siberia were transferred from it to the city of Novonikolaevsk (future Novosibirsk). In 1934, Omsk became the administrative center of a separate Omsk Oblast.

Over the years of industrialization, Omsk became one of the largest centers for agricultural engineering in the USSR. The metal-working industry also developed at a rapid pace. In 1939, Omsk numbered more than 288 thousand people.

During the Second World War, about 200 industrial enterprises were evacuated to Omsk, as well as 60 hospitals, dozens of educational institutions, theaters, museums, and hundreds of thousands of refugees.

In the post-war years, new enterprises were put into operation in Omsk, all existing factories and plants were reconstructed and expanded. The industrial potential of the city was also strengthened by the Omsk oil refinery, the largest in the country. In connection with the rapid development of industry, especially petrochemical enterprises, the ecological situation deteriorated. The concentration of harmful substances in the air sharply increased. In 1964, the population of Omsk was about 702 thousand people.

In the 1970s-1980s, Omsk developed rapidly. In 1975, the city’s population exceeded 1 million. The most pressing problem was the ecological situation. Omsk was in the top 10 cities of Russia in terms of environmental pollution. Another problem that required an immediate solution was the development of passenger transport. The capacity of Omsk streets was exhausted, and therefore the construction of the subway became an urgent issue.

The economic crisis that gripped Russia after the collapse of the USSR had a negative impact on the economy of Omsk and the region as a whole. There was a significant decline in industrial production, construction volumes fell, and unemployment rose. A lot of organizations of the defense complex, research institutes, and design bureaus found themselves in a deep crisis without the state defense order.

The share of mechanical engineering and metalworking, light industry, and, to a lesser extent, chemical and petrochemical, forestry and woodworking industries decreased. At the same time, the share of the fuel industry, energy, and construction materials industry began to grow.

In the 2000s, Omsk again became one of the most important economic centers of Western Siberia with a developing mechanical engineering, petrochemical industry, various branches of the woodworking, construction industry, and a highly productive agro-industrial complex. In recent years, Omsk has also acquired the features of one of the largest Siberian centers of entrepreneurship and banking/financial activities.

Omsk - Features

Omsk is located in the south of the West Siberian Plain at the confluence of the Om River into the Irtysh, about 150 km from the border of Russia with Kazakhstan. About 60% of all residents of Omsk Oblast live in Omsk. The City Day of Omsk is celebrated on the first Saturday of August.

The city’s coat of arms is very similar to the first coat of arms of Omsk approved by Empress Catherine II in 1785. It depicts a part of the brick fortifications, which symbolizes the reason for its foundation as a fortress and the center of the Siberian defensive line.

Omsk belongs to the temperate climatic zone with a continental climate of the forest-steppe of the West Siberian belt. It is distinguished by an abundance of sunlight. The average air temperature in January is minus 16.3 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 19.6 degrees Celsius. The highest wind speeds are observed in winter and spring, which is the reason for frequent snow and dust storms.

In the past, the ecological situation in Omsk was very unfavorable. Since 2011, the city’s environmental development rating has increased significantly. This was the result of large-scale modernization of many large industries (including the Omsk oil refinery). Today, road transport is the main source of air pollution in the city.

The level of pollution of the Omsk rivers - Irtysh and Om - remains consistently high. Swimming in them is prohibited. While industrial effluents are becoming more environmentally friendly, sewers are releasing waste products including diesel fuel and petroleum products into the rivers. Dust raised by dust storms is also a serious problem for the city as it contains a lot of harmful substances including lead.

The city’s industry is based on oil refining, petrochemistry, chemical industry, mechanical engineering (production of aerospace equipment, armored vehicles, agricultural equipment). Omsk is a major transport junction - the Trans-Siberian Railway runs through the city from west to east, and the navigable Irtysh River crosses it from south to north. Omsk Airport offers regular flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, Surgut, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Salekhard, Kazan, Krasnodar, Sochi.

The unfinished subway of Omsk has become famous in Russia thanks to its only one fully built station. Its construction began back in 1992. However, due to funding problems, the completion of the first line was postponed numerous times. In 2019, it was finally decided to permanently stop construction. For local residents, because of the long wait for the completion of the construction, the Omsk metro symbolizes unrealizable hopes, they talk about it with irony.

In Omsk, there are practically no buildings higher than 50 meters, according to this parameter it is one of the lowest cities with a population of over one million. 130 architectural monuments are concentrated in the central part of the city, almost half of the total number.

Main Attractions of Omsk

Dormition Cathedral - the largest church in Omsk located in the very center of the city. The original church was built in 1891-1898. In 1935, it was completely destroyed. In 2005-2007, an exact copy of the building was restored in its original place. This is one of the most beautiful buildings in Omsk. At night, the building is illuminated and looks especially majestic. Tarskaya Street, 7.

Irtysh Embankment - the main walking street of Omsk with a picturesque view of the Irtysh River. Built in the middle of the 20th century, the embankment was reconstructed in the 2000s. You can walk along the alley on foot, ride rollerblades or a bike.

Merchant Batyushkin’s Mansion (1902). This architectural monument is located on the Irtysh Embankment. It is also known as the Kolchak’s House because Alexander Kolchak, the Supreme Ruler of Russia, lived in this building in 1919. One part of the building is occupied by the registry office of the Central District of Omsk. The Center for the Study of the History of the Russian Civil War is also open here. Omsk State Museum of History and Local Lore - one of the oldest museums in Siberia and Russia founded in 1878. In total, this museum has over 200 thousand various objects of cultural, historical and artistic value. The museum is especially proud of such exhibits as the cast-iron figures of the Chinese lions Shi-Tzu, presented to the museum from China in 1895, as well as the skeleton of a woolly mammoth almost 3 meters high. Omsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts named after M.A. Vrubel - one of the largest museums of fine arts in Siberia. It has collections of foreign and Russian art from antiquity to the present day. In total, there are over 22 thousand works by painters, graphic artists and sculptors, as well as more than 1.5 thousand rare folios.

Walking through the exhibition halls, you can admire the canvases of Shishkin, Aivazovsky, Surikov, Repin, Serov, Vereshchagin. The exhibition of rare icons dating from the 17th-20th centuries is of constant interest among visitors, as well as a unique collection of jewelry made of precious metals found in the Scythian and Sarmatian burial mounds. Two buildings of the museum are located at Lenina Street 3 and 23.

In November 2019, a new exhibition was opened in a historical building at Muzeynaya Street, 4 - the exhibition of art of the 20th-21st centuries. The Hermitage-Siberia Center is located here too - the first representation of The State Hermitage Museum (the second-largest art museum in the world) beyond the Urals.

Chokana Valikhanova Street - a pedestrian street located in the historic part of Omsk. The street is decorated with abstract architectural forms, flower beds, wrought-iron lanterns. The walking area ends with an observation deck with a picturesque view of the Irtysh River.

Museum of Kondraty Belov . The museum of this landscape painter born in Omsk can be found in a picturesque wooden house, which is considered one of the most interesting architectural monuments of Omsk. The exposition tells about the life and work of Kondraty Belov, as well as about the history of the building itself.

In total, this museum has about 700 exhibits. The permanent exhibition also includes works by Kondraty Belov’s son Stanislav and paintings by some other local artists. In addition, temporary exhibitions of contemporary Omsk artists are regularly held here. Chokana Valikhanova Street, 10.

Plumber Stepanych Monument - an unusual sculpture located in the center of Omsk, which you can literally stumble upon while walking along Lenin Street between the houses #12 and #14. Leaning out of the hatch, the plumber is depicted as realistic and life-size as possible. It is among the most photographed monuments in Omsk. There is a similar sculpture in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.

Lyuba Monument . This sculpture, located on the opposite side of Lenin Street from the monument to the plumber Stepanych, is especially loved by Omsk residents and tourists, who love to be photographed against its background.

This beauty in a lace dress with a neckline and a crinoline sitting on an openwork bench and reading a novel had a real prototype - Lyubov (diminutively Lyuba or Lyubasha) Gasford, the wife of the Governor-General of Siberia, who lived in Omsk in the 19th century and died at a young age due to illness. One of the streets of Omsk and the park are named in her memory. She is a local symbol of femininity and beauty.

Omsk Fire Tower - a picturesque architectural monument built at the beginning of the 20th century. Inside the tower there are museum expositions dedicated to the local fire brigade and the history of tower construction. Internatsionalnaya Street, 41?.

Park of Culture and Rest named after the 30th anniversary of the Komsomol - a popular place for walks, recreation and entertainment of Omsk residents and tourists, which has retained “the spirit of the Soviet era” in its name. Today, on an area of 73 hectares, several zones have been organized, various types of recreation are presented. There are walking alleys, ponds, water activities, for example, riding on hydro-scooters.

The ice town is open in winter, the Return of the Dinosaurs exhibition - in summer. The “House Upside Down” exposition is also popular with tourists. Natural Park “Bird Harbor” - a specially protected area located on the path of bird migration in the central part of Omsk. During autumn flights, up to 3 thousand birds stop here for rest. It is a great place to enjoy nature, walk along the eco-trail, and observe the life of birds. The park is situated in the floodplain on the left bank of the Irtysh River next to the Victory Park on Yeniseyskaya Street.
