Vietnam's reinvention as Southeast Asia's most exciting tourist destination has long since been complete. Hanoi is the capital, and Ho Chi Minh City- formerly Saigon has French colonial landmarks. After wars for the more significant part of the 20th century, the country is now a hotspot for foodies, beach bums, and thrill-seekers alike. Its capital, Hanoi, has managed to retain its old-style feel despite an economic boom. Its Old Quarter is a riot of delectable food stalls, markets, and labyrinthine streets. Ho Chi Minh City serves up a more modern edge, while the UNESCO-protected town of Hoi An, and has kept its charm despite the swathes of tourists. Language: Quoc Ngu - Latin Alphabet The official language of Vietnam is Vietnamese, which is the mother tongue of the Vietnamese people, who constitute 86% of Vietnam's population and about three million overseas Vietnamese. And it is the second language of the ethnic minority groups in the country. It is monosyllabic, with each syllable having six different tones that can change the word's meaning. It makes it quite difficult for new learners. Besides the official language, each ethnic minority group has its dialect that has been used and preserved in daily life. The Vietnamese writing system in use today is an adapted version of the Latin alphabet, with additional diacritics for tones and certain letters. The use of accent marks indicates the different tones. This system of writing, called Quoc Ngu, was created by a French Catholic missionary, Fr. Alexander De Rhodes, in the 17th century to translate the scriptures. When France invaded Vietnam in the late 19th century, French gradually replaced Chinese as the official language in education and government. In addition, many Sino-Vietnamese terms Western ideas imported through the French. However, the Romanized script did not predominate until the beginning of the 20th century.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery in Vietnam from the comfort of a bicycle

More than 30 million Vietnamese can't be wrong – handle-bar height gives you the best view of vibrant Vietnam! This 15-day cycling trip take you through unique country landscapes, rice paddies, small villages, bustling cities and beside seas dotted with islands. You’ll indulge in delicious Vietnamese cuisine (Bahn mi, anyone?), cycle through the ancient sites of Hue, hop on a snorkelling boat to the islands near Nah Trang, chill out on palm-lined coasts, immerse yourself in traditional culture at a homestay and get your blood pumping on challenging, full day rides. It’s time to saddle up!

Trip overview

  • Cycle from Ninh Binh to Tam Coc and soak up one of Vietnam’s most spectacular views – the towering limestone karsts that rise over the rice paddies.
  • Ride one of Vietnam’ most spectacular highways to Nha Trang, hugging the granite cliffs and looking out across the sea to the many islands and lagoons. Then, chill out in the coastal town once referred to as the 'Cannes of the Orient'.

Xin chao! Welcome to Vietnam. Your adventure officially begins in Hanoi with a welcome meeting at 6 pm tonight. If you arrive early, maybe stretch your legs with a walk around Hanoi’s bustling Old Quarter, taking a break along the way for a bia hoi (freshly brewed draught beer). You could also join the queues at the famous Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum or chill out and people watch at Hoan Kiem Lake. After your group meeting, you’ll head out for an included dinner at KOTO restaurant – Vietnam's first social enterprise employing disadvantaged youth.

  • Hotel (1 night)
  • Hanoi - KOTO dinner
  • Hanoi - One Pillar Pagoda - Free
  • Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh Complex - VND80000

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance and emergency contact details at this time. If you are going to be late please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.

This morning, you’ll have some free time to explore the city at your leisure. If you haven’t already, walking through the Old Quarter is really the best way to get a feel for the city – an architectural museum where the ancient '36 Streets’ sell everything from souvenirs to exquisite silk clothing, jewellery, embroidered tablecloths, wood carvings and lacquerware. This afternoon, you’ll cycle through the city on a quiet ride around West Lake. Pass by lotus lakes, old school villas and iconic temples including the Tran Quoc Pagoda – the oldest pagoda in Vietnam. Tonight, why not head out for Bahn mi and a local beer – your leader will have the best recommendations!

  • Hanoi - Fine Arts Museum - VND30000
  • Hanoi - Temple of Literature - VND70000
  • Hanoi - Women's Museum - VND30000
  • Hanoi - Hoa Lo 'Hanoi Hilton' Prison - VND50000
  • Hanoi - Army Museum - VND20000
  • Hanoi - Street Food Experience Urban Adventure - USD40

Your cycling distance today will be approximately 22 km (14 mi) with about 40 m (130 ft) of elevation gain.

Saddle up this morning as your cycling adventure kicks into first gear. Leave Hanoi behind and travel by bus to Hoa Binh, stopping at Vun Art on the way – a social enterprise run by people living with disabilities, specialising in craft products made from Van Phuc silk. When you arrive in Hoa Binh, you’ll jump on your bike and cycle to Cao Phong through small ethnic Thai villages and paddy fields. As limestone peaks climb in the background, you’ll take regular stops to admire the view across the valleys. When you arrive, take a short bus ride to Man Duc for lunch. Then, the bus will take you to the Da River Reservoir. Cycle along the Da River, passing karst cliffs through paddy fields. The peaceful town of Mai Chau sits in a beautiful valley surrounded by green mountains and is famed for its scenery and friendly hilltribe peoples. Tonight, you’ll enjoy some local hospitality in your simple stilt-house homestay in the village of Poom Coong. After a home cooked meal, there may be a chance to sample some of the local rice wine that’s produced here.

  • Homestay (1 night)
  • Mai Chau - Pom Coong Village visit & traditional lunch

Your travel time today will be approximately 2.5 hours. Your cycling distance today will be approximately 57 km (36 mi) with about 410 m (1090 ft) of elevation gain.

Say farewell to your homestay hosts and cycle from Mai Chau to Mai Hai and on to Co Luong. You’ll ride through more paddy fields, testing your skills (or suspension) with the shallow potholes along the road. Pass farmers drawn by buffalo and wave to the friendly locals as you cycle. Today is all about the lush green fields, limestone mountains and tranquil waterways. Take a bus along the Ho Chi Minh Road and when you arrive in Ninh Binh, you have the option to take another 36 km cycle around the surrounding area. This is a wonderful chance to see the everyday rural life and take in the countryside.

Your cycling distance today will be approximately 49 km (30 mi) on a mostly downhill road with about 195 m (640 ft) of elevation gain.

This morning you’ll cycle from Ninh Binh to Tam Coc to soak up one of Vietnam’s most spectacular views – the limestone karst peaks rising over the rice paddies. Mixed in with the sounds and views of the river, which winds through the fields dotted with boats, you’ll find the true meaning of serene. Cycle to Hoa Lu – once the ancient capital of Vietnam under the 10th century Dinh Dynasty, the temples here were restored in the 17th century and architecture is still in great condition. Here, you’ll take a lunch break at the Dinh or the Le Temple, then it’s back on the bus to return to your hotel. After an early dinner, transfer to Nam Dinh for an overnight train to Hue.

  • Overnight sleeper train (1 night)
  • Hoa Lu - Temple of King Dinh and King Le

Your cycling distance today will be approximately 52 km (32 mi) on undulating roads with about 195 m (640 ft) of elevation gain.

On the overnight train to Hue (approximately 12 hours) conditions are basic, but it’s best way to travel long distances like a local. Sleeper trains typically have four berth compartments which have bench seats that convert into sleeping bunks. A sheet, pillow and blanket are provided, although some travellers prefer to bring their own sleeping sheet. On occasion, passengers of different genders will be required to share a compartment and there will be occasions where you'll be sharing with local travellers or travellers who are not part of your group. Most trains have a dining carriage serving simple food, but most travellers take the opportunity to stock up on fresh bread, cheese and fruit prior to departure.

Arrive in Hue this morning and hop back in the saddle to explore the former imperial capital of Vietnam. Hue holds the treasures of the royal past – a mix of bustling streets and tranquil countryside settings. Ride through the fields to some of Hue's many remarkable sites, including temples, bunkers, tombs, ruins, pagodas and country landscapes. Visit the Imperial Citadel, including the Forbidden Purple City, which was almost totally destroyed during the Vietnam War's Tet Offensive. The foliage-covered ruins and gaping holes left by bombs give an idea of the destruction wreaked upon the country during the war. After, kick back in a cafe or restaurant – Hue’s cuisine is considered by many Vietnamese as the best in the country, influenced both by its imperial heritage (small dishes and a focus on presentation) and its strong Buddhist heritage (reflected in the high proportion of vegetarian restaurants).

  • Hue - Imperial City Full Day Tour
  • Hue - Royal tomb of Emperor Tu Duc

Your cycling distance today will be approximately 16 km (10 mi) on flat roads with about 12 m (40 ft) of elevation gain.

Leaving Hue, you’ll do some mountainous riding today as you conquer the Hai Van (Ocean Cloud) Pass on the way to the laidback town of Hoi An. This pass is a gorgeous stretch of highway that winds through the Truong Son Mountain Range, with views across the Bay of Danang to the south. It is 500 m above sea level and the up/down slope ranges from 5 to 10 percent. There will be plenty of well-earned breaks along the way to take in the views, snap some photos and rehydrate. When you arrive in Hoi An, you’ll be immersed in the iconic lantern-lit streets, loud markets, tailor shops, artisans, ancient architecture, colourful temples and old school boats lining the river. Recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, Hoi An is being beautifully restored and preserved, with parts of the town looking exactly like they did more than a century ago. This makes its streets of low tiled buildings perfect for strolling. Take the evening to soak up the atmosphere, or just rest your legs at a local restaurant after a day’s riding.

Your cycling distance today will be approximately 86 km (54 mi) on uphill, flat and downhill roads with about 631 m (2070 ft) of elevation gain.

This morning, head out on a leader-led walking tour through Hoi An. Discover the history of the Chinese influence as you walk past pagodas and assembly halls. Visit a historic house (formerly home to a prominent trader), the Japanese Covered Bridge, a Chinese assembly hall and a museum. The afternoon is free for you to cycle to the beach, head to the tailor shops or find a spot with a view and make the most of happy hour. For those who love to shop, Hoi An is a mecca with much to browse and buy. There are original paintings, leather goods, handcrafted woodwork, ceramics, embroidery, lanterns and lots more.

  • Hoi An - Old Town walking tour
  • Hoi An - Food Adventure Urban Adventure - USD44
  • Hoi An - Thu Bon river boat trip - VND100000
  • Hoi An - Private Hoi An: My Son Discovery - USD77

Leave Hoi An behind today and head south down Highway One on the way to Phu. On this lesser-travelled route, you’ll drive past paddy fields, see the wheat drying for the local Hoi Beer and pass locals playing chess. When you arrive, climb back on you bike and cycle to the coastal city of Quy Nhon. The city is filled with long stretches of beach and relaxed boulevards, and it’s a perfect spot to get to know the locals as it’s seldom visited by tourists. Tonight, you’ll have free time to get an authentic slice of coastal life.

Your travel time today will be approximately 4.5 hours and your cycling distance will be approximately 44 km (27 mi) on undulating roads with about 255 m (840 ft) of elevation gain.

Today’s cycle is one of the most breathtaking stretches of road you’ll ride on this trip – the highway hugs huge granite cliffs and looks out across the sea. Following parts of the Reunification Railway, you’ll ride alongside spectacular horizons full of islands and lagoons. Join the scooter riders on the waterfront promenade as you arrive in the coastal town of Nha Trang, once referred to as the 'Cannes of the Orient'. The palm-lined beach and island-dotted bay here might just be the best photo op you’ll get! This spot is known for its good weather, vibrant nightlife and excellent diving opportunities.

  • Nha Trang - Po Nagar Cham Tower

Your travel time today will be approximately 3 hours and your cycling distance today will be approximately 94 kms (59 mi) on lightly undulating roads with about 305 m (990 ft) of elevation gain.

Today you’ll swap your bike for a boat and head out to explore the nearby islands. This excursion is often the highlight of the trip, as you’ll get to know some of the locals and indulge in the beauty of Nah Trang. Starting on the main boat, you’ll then take a small basket boat to shore and visit a fishing village, snorkel in the turquoise waters and feast on a fresh seafood buffet for lunch. Make the most of your free afternoon by lazing in a deck chair, going for another swim or maybe taking a mud bath to soothe away your sore muscles.

  • Hon Mun Island - Snorkelling
  • Nha Trang - Basket boat ride
  • Nha Trang - Boat trip
  • Nha Trang - Bao Dai Villa - VND120000
  • Nha Trang - Mud baths - VND280000

Head up through the Bidoup-Nui Ba Pass into the cooler climate of the South-Central Highlands, where some of the country's best fruits, flowers and coffee beans are grown. The road here is winding and steep but if you're fit and ready for a challenge, you may want to conquer the whole mountain on your bike. You can also take it easy and flag a lift from the bus. Whichever way you choose to get to the top, you'll still be treated to magnificent views when you reach the summit. After a short photo stop here, you’ll descend to Dalat – a perfect base to explore the region, Dalat is often called the 'City of Eternal Spring' for its temperate climate and landscape full of lakes, palaces, pine tree-covered hills, flower gardens and pagodas.

Your travel time today will be approximately 1 hour and your cycling distance today will be approximately 72 kms (4 mi) on lightly undulating roads with about 270 m (890 ft) of elevation gain.

This morning you’ll take a city tour of Dalat, making the journey to Bao Dai's striking regal summer palace. He was the final emperor of the Nguyen dynasty, and the last to rule Vietnam until 1945. You’ll then discover the wacky and weird architecture of Hang Nga Crazy House. Echoing Gaudi's unconventional designs, this place is described as a 'fairytale house' and you’ll explore the twisted tree roots, cave shaped hallways and animal themed rooms with your group. Drop by the train station and the central market before continuing to Di Linh, where the tea industry looms in the surrounding hills. After lunch, pedal down the forest-lined Gia Bac Pass, then cycle from Malam to Phan Thiets beaches.

  • Dalat - Hang Nga Crazy House

Your cycling distance today will be approximately 67 km (42 mi) mostly downhill, with about 105 m (380 ft) of elevation gain.

Before heading to the big city, you’ll spend your last morning taking in the views along the beach on a ride to Lang Long. After a picnic lunch, keep cycling to Cu Bi where you’ll say goodbye to your two-wheeled friend. Hop in your group’s minivan for the final leg to Ho Chi Minh City and discover the fascinating blend of old and new here as East meets West. Maybe spend the final night of your trip with your fellow travellers, exploring the food stalls at Ben Thanh market or with a few glasses of street-side Beer Hoi.

  • Ho Chi Minh City - Reunification Palace - VND40000
  • Ho Chi Minh City - War Remnants Museum - VND40000

Your cycling distance today will be approximately 56 km (35 mi) on mostly flat roads with hills at the end, with about 125 m (410 ft) of elevation gain .

What Client Say

As a family of four we did a 4 day , 3 night cycling tour around the Mekong Delta from Ho Chi Minh to Chau Doc . It was the highlight of our trip so far largely thanks to our amazing guide Ut and lovely driver Kit, we saw so much that we wouldn’t have been able to any other way, and seeing the people getting ready for Tet was fantastic, although they all took time to shout hello and high five you along the way. The accomodation at the homestay in particular was excellent as was the food, and I have never slept so well. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience.

We booked SinhBalo Adventure Travel from home having read the reviews on TA and our party of 4 adults opted for the 2 nights and 3 days cycling and boating around the Mekong Delta. From start to finish the whole trip was very well organised, professional and did exactly what it said on the tin. We were very pleased with the whole experience and trip.

We did the Can Tho / hotel stay bike and boat tour with SinBalo, which was a highlight of our Vietnam Trip. Ut was a fantastic guide, a Mekong Delta local giving us a lot of information and answering our many questions. He and the van driver were good-natured, friendly, professional, and responsible.

We did a 3 day orivate cycking tour with asinhbalo in the Meking Delta. Everything was great: the bikes were very good and well looked after, the driver in the support car was quite good, an waitedmfor us with cold water and nice wet towels at the end of each cycling segment. The guide looked after us in the bits of rozds which were busy without being over-protective.

Understanding Vietnam

Topography — Vietnam is a tropical country in South-East Asia located between the latitudes 8° and 24° N. The country is shaped like a slim, curving scythe, that is a narrow strip in the middle, and broader at either end, resembling Italy in shape. It has a long coastline along the South China Sea, which is a western extension of the Pacific Ocean. Vietnam is mostly hilly, with mountains accounting for over 40% of its land area, and is densely forested, with tropical rainforests covering some 42% of its landmass. Hills, tropical rainforests, and the Pacific coast are thus the dominant topographical features of Vietnam and one should expect them to make up a large part of the cycling experience in Vietnam. The north-eastern end of Vietnam, bordering China, called the Red River Delta is a fertile swathe of flatland that accounts for much of the country’s population and its agricultural productivity. Rice paddies are the dominant topographical feature of this region.

Fauna & Flora — Vietnam is extremely rich in biodiversity and is home to 16% of the world’s species of flora and fauna. Its lush forests are home to a variety of unique species, including clouded leopards, douc langurs, and the critically endangered Javan rhinoceros. The country's extensive coastline supports thriving marine ecosystems, and its wetlands provide habitat for numerous bird species.

Climate — The country has a wet and generally pleasant climate with high levels of precipitation. Proximity to the sea and the presence of mountains have a moderating effect on the climate of most parts of the country despite its nearness to the equator.

Economy — It has a population of close to 100 million people, most of whom enjoy a relatively high standard of living. Agriculture, petroleum extraction, tourism, and of late, the services sector are the primary drivers of its economy. The country is relatively prosperous and is rated as among the fastest-growing economies in the world. Vietnam is recognized as a regional power in South East Asia, and globally, as a middle power in international affairs.

What are the Best Places to Cycle in Vietnam?

Vietnam offers a diverse range of landscapes and regions that are perfect for cycling enthusiasts. From scenic coastal routes to mountainous terrain and cultural gems, here are some of the top destinations for cycling in Vietnam:

  • Hanoi and Surrounding Areas

The capital city of Vietnam, Hanoi, serves as an excellent starting point for cycling adventures. Explore the city's bustling streets and immerse yourself in its rich history and culture. From Hanoi, you can venture out to the surrounding areas, such as:

  • Ninh Binh : Known as "Halong Bay on Land," Ninh Binh is a stunning region of karst landscapes, rice paddies, and winding rivers. Cycle through the picturesque countryside and visit attractions like Tam Coc, Trang An, and Bai Dinh Pagoda.
  • Mai Chau : Located in the Hoa Binh Province, Mai Chau offers beautiful rural scenery and the opportunity to experience the local hill tribe culture. Cycle through lush valleys, visit ethnic minority villages, and enjoy the tranquility of the area.
  • Northern Vietnam

Northern Vietnam is known for its stunning mountain ranges, ethnic minority communities, and terraced rice fields. Consider these destinations for your Northern Vietnam cycling adventure:

  • Northwest Vietnam : Northwestern Vietnam, known as Tay Bac is a mountainous province that has a pleasant tropical highland climate that is favorable for cycling all year round. The region has some gorgeous scenery comprising mist-covered mountains, terraced fields, fast-flowing streams, and wildflower-covered hillsides. Vietnam’s highest mountain peak, Fansipan, standing 3143m above sea level is located in this region. A cycle tour in northwest Vietnam can also be combined with a trip to neighboring Laos.
  • Sapa : Nestled in the Hoang Lien Son Mountains, Sapa offers spectacular views and opportunities to experience local hill tribe culture. Cycle through terraced rice fields, visit local villages, and immerse yourself in the region's natural beauty.
  • Ha Giang Loop : The Ha Giang Province offers one of the most challenging and rewarding cycling routes in Vietnam. The Ha Giang Loop takes you through remote mountainous regions, breathtaking landscapes, and traditional villages. It's an adventure for experienced cyclists seeking a thrilling and immersive experience.
  • Northeast Vietnam : Northeastern Vietnam is the region to the north of Hanoi. It has an interesting mix of topography. The region immediately to the north of the Red River Delta is plain, which rapidly gives rise to mountains yet again. On the east, the region has a small coastline along the Pacific Ocean. Northeastern Vietnam is also crisscrossed by a large number of rivers that add to the geographical diversity of its terrain.
  • Central Vietnam

Central Vietnam boasts a diverse range of landscapes, from coastal stretches to mountainous terrain. Here are a few cycling routes and destinations worth exploring:

The Cambodian capital Phnom Penh is located in close proximity to Saigon and makes for a great cycle tour from Saigon across the mighty Mekong River which is the economic and cultural lifeline of Indochina. The terrain in Southern Vietnam and into Cambodia , unlike the rest of Vietnam, is mostly flat.

When is the Best Time to Cycle Vietnam?

Choosing the best time to cycle in Vietnam is crucial to ensure favorable weather conditions and an enjoyable experience. Like most tropical regions, Vietnam has hot summers, mild pleasant winters, and an extremely wet rainy season.

Being located in the northern hemisphere, the best season for cycling in Vietnam is generally from September to May, with regional variations as described below:

Northern Vietnam, including Hanoi, Sapa, and Ninh Binh, experiences four seasons:

Spring (March to April) : Spring in northern Vietnam is characterized by mild temperatures and blooming flowers. It's an ideal time for cycling, with pleasant weather and colorful landscapes.

Summer (May to August) : The summer months bring hot and humid weather, with occasional rain showers. It can be challenging to cycle in the heat and humidity, but if you're well-prepared and take precautions, it can still be enjoyable.

Autumn (September to November) : Autumn is considered the best time to go cycling in northern Vietnam. The weather is cool and dry, making it comfortable for long rides and exploring the scenic countryside.

Winter (December to February) : Winter in the north can be cold, particularly in mountainous areas like Sapa. While the temperatures may be lower, it can still be a good time for cycling, especially if you're prepared with appropriate clothing.

In summary, cycling is best suited for the northern mountains of Vietnam from late August through May. December and January experience colder temperatures with occasional light showers, so travelers should be well-prepared for these conditions.

Located in northeastern Vietnam, has a distinct weather pattern influenced by its coastal location. Understanding the weather conditions in Halong Bay is essential for planning your cycling adventure in the region. Here's an overview of the weather in Halong Bay throughout the year:

Spring (March to April) : During spring, Halong Bay experiences mild temperatures and relatively stable weather. The average temperature ranges from 20°C (68°F) to 25°C (77°F), making it a pleasant time for cycling. However, occasional rain showers can occur, so it's advisable to carry rain gear and check weather forecasts before setting off on your cycling routes.

Summer (May to August) : The summer months bring warmer temperatures and higher humidity to Halong Bay. Average temperatures range from 25°C (77°F) to 30°C (86°F), with July and August being the hottest months. While cycling during this time is still possible, it's important to stay hydrated, wear lightweight and breathable clothing, and take precautions against the heat and sun exposure. Be aware that summer is also the rainy season, so expect occasional heavy rain showers and thunderstorms.

Autumn (September to November) : Autumn is widely considered the best time to visit Halong Bay. The weather is mild, with temperatures ranging from 20°C (68°F) to 28°C (82°F). The skies are clearer, and rainfall decreases compared to the summer months. This makes it an ideal time for cycling, as you can enjoy comfortable temperatures and beautiful scenery. However, it's still a good idea to check weather forecasts as occasional rain showers can occur.

Winter (December to February) : Winter in Halong Bay brings cooler temperatures, particularly in the evenings and early mornings. The average temperatures range from 15°C (59°F) to 20°C (68°F). While it's still possible to go cycling during this time, be prepared with warm clothing, especially if cycling early in the morning or later in the day. Winter also sees a higher chance of foggy conditions, which may affect visibility, particularly on the water. Checking weather conditions and being flexible with your plans are advisable during the winter months.

In summary, cycling in this region is ideal between October and May. December and January can bring cooler temperatures and occasional rain. From May to October, the weather is hot, with the heaviest rainfall typically occurring in August and September.

It's worth noting that Halong Bay can be a popular tourist destination, so the number of visitors may vary depending on the season. Peak tourist seasons, such as summer and holidays, may see more crowds and higher accommodation prices. If you prefer a quieter experience, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring or autumn.

Central Vietnam is a narrow crescent-like coastal strip that is at times only 60 km wide. As a result, it experiences coastal weather phenomena such as high rainfall and occasional typhoons during the wet season that runs from September to December.

Central Vietnam, including Hue, Hoi An, and Da Nang, experiences a different climate pattern with two distinct seasons:

Dry Season (February to August) : The dry season in central Vietnam is characterized by sunny and hot weather. It's a great time for coastal cycling, exploring the beautiful beaches, and enjoying water activities. However, be prepared for high temperatures and consider starting your rides early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Rainy Season (September to January) : The rainy season brings frequent showers and occasional typhoons. Cycling during this time can be challenging due to heavy rain and potential road disruptions. It's advisable to check weather forecasts and plan your rides accordingly.

In summary, the most favorable season for cycling in this region spans from January to early September, with an average temperature of approximately 30°C.

Southern Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta, experiences a tropical climate with two distinct seasons:

Dry Season (December to April) : The dry season in the south is the best time for cycling. The weather is relatively cool and dry, making it comfortable for long rides. However, note that temperatures can still be quite hot, especially in March and April.

Rainy Season (May to November) : The rainy season in the south brings high humidity and frequent rain showers. While cycling is still possible, be prepared for wet roads and sudden downpours. The countryside is lush and vibrant during this time, but it's advisable to check weather conditions and plan your rides accordingly.

In summary, Southern Vietnam is an all-year-round cycling destination thanks to its delightful tropical climate. While April and May can be quite hot, the remainder of the year offers temperatures around 30°C. There's moderate rainfall from May to early November, but it clears up quickly, resulting in cool, lush surroundings. November to February stands out as the prime period for cycling in South Vietnam, with warm weather, clear blue skies, and a gentle ocean breeze coming in from the Pacific.

Enjoying Vietnamese Cuisine

One of the highlights of cycling in Vietnam is indulging in the local cuisine. Vietnamese food is known for its fresh ingredients, vibrant flavors, and balance. Don't miss out on trying these iconic dishes:

Pho — Vietnam's most famous dish, pho, is a flavorful noodle soup with either beef or chicken, topped with fresh herbs and condiments.

Banh Mi — This delicious Vietnamese sandwich combines French influences with local ingredients. It typically includes a baguette filled with various options like grilled meats, pâté, pickled vegetables, and fresh herbs.

Bun Cha — A Hanoi specialty, bun cha consists of grilled pork served with rice noodles, herbs, and a side of dipping sauce.

Banh Xeo — These savory pancakes are made from rice flour and filled with shrimp, pork, bean sprouts, and herbs. Wrap them in lettuce leaves and dip them in a tangy sauce for a delightful bite.

Ca Phe — Vietnamese coffee is a must-try. Enjoy a cup of ca phe sua da (iced coffee with condensed milk) or ca phe trung (egg coffee) for a unique local experience.

Vietnam Visa Requirements

Residents from several countries have visa exemption status for tourist visits to Vietnam. For a full list of up-to-date visa-exempt countries, see the Vietnam Foreign Affairs website .

The ‘e-visa’ process is newer and more streamlined. You can apply for an e-visa through the government website, then, once approved, simply print it out and present it upon arrival in Vietnam. The additional benefit of the e-visa is that it's valid at land borders, not just airports. The processing time ranges from 2 to 7 working days. We recommend applying 2 weeks in advance to avoid unexpected delays. Read more about tourist e-visas for Vietnam at the Vietnam Immigration portal and apply there.

While applying online for an approval letter, please ensure that you have the following documents:

  • Passport scanned copy : A scanned copy of your passport - front (main) page. It shouldn't be a mobile photo or a photo taken from a laptop. Strictly scanned copy done through a computer scanner.
  • Passport size photo : portrait photo (4*6 size, colored photo, white background, straight looking without glasses). A photo taken from a mobile or laptop may or may not work, so I would strictly advise getting one made through a nearby photo studio (retail shop) that specializes in taking photos for visas.

Here is an excellent resource on Vietnam visas that may be worth looking at.

Vaccines and Medicines

Although there are no specific vaccinations required for Vietnam travel by Vietnamese law other than potentially yellow fever in some instances, you are strongly recommended to meet with a medical provider to determine the vaccinations needed for Vietnam. Your medical provider will give you specifics on which vaccinations for Vietnam you are recommended to have based on your prior vaccinations and other health factors.

Our travelers normally don't do any special vaccination before visiting Vietnam and we also don't recommend any particular vaccine.

Here is an excellent resource for recommended vaccinations for Vietnam that may be worthy to look at.

Currency – The official Vietnamese currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). As of May 2021, One Dollar equals 23112 Dong. The American Dollar may be accepted as a mode of payment in large business establishments, especially in the two major Vietnamese cities, Hanoi & Saigon. In smaller business establishments, smaller towns, and in rural Vietnam, the Dong is preferred. Most ATMs will dispense only Dong. In neighboring Cambodia, ATMs dispense the American Dollar as well. Mastercard/Visa are accepted in large business establishments. You should keep some local currency handy at all times.

Transport – For traveling within Vietnamese cities, there are several options such as the Cyclo ( a three-wheeled bicycle taxi) and the Xe Om, a motorcycle taxi. One can also use taxi cabs to get around. There is a frequent intra-city bus service as well. For traveling between Vietnamese cities, there is frequent bus and rail connectivity. Saigon and Hanoi are connected by air service.

Language – Vietnamese (Tieng Viet) is the official language of Vietnam. English is widely spoken and understood by a large section of the population. French is also spoken and understood by many people, a legacy of Vietnam’s colonial past.

Culture – A large section of the Vietnamese population identifies as atheists, while Buddhism, Christianity, and folk religions are practiced by smaller numbers. Vietnamese people are generally warm and hospitable. However, one needs to be mindful of local traditions. It is advisable to dress appropriately when visiting sacred spaces or people’s homes. It is considered respectful to take off one’s shoes when entering people’s homes or religious places. Vietnamese people are generally polite and may not object to being photographed out of courtesy but it is advisable to seek people’s permission before doing so. Avoid photographing military establishments or military personnel in Vietnam.

Appliances & Devices - Vietnamese electricity supply voltage is 220V at 50 Hz. Most countries in the world use electricity at 220-240V except North America and Japan where 100-120V is used. You should check the back of your device to see if it is compatible with the voltage before plugging it in. Most hotels in Vietnam use two-pin Type A, Type C, and Type F chargers. If your device has a 3-pin plug, it is advisable to carry an adapter with you.

Mobile Coverage – Vietnam has reliable mobile networks in most regions except the remote mountains. You can use your mobile phone in most Vietnamese cities as long as you have global roaming activated. If you plan to stay longer, you can buy a local Vietnamese SIM card that you can use on unlocked mobile phones. Mobile internet is generally cheap and reliable in Vietnam. Viettel, MobiFone, and Vinaphone are the most popular Vietnamese network operators.

Cuisine – Vietnamese cuisine relies heavily on rice, soy, fish, and pork. Peanut sauce is also a part of several Vietnamese street food items. If you are allergic to any of these foods, you might want to inform your tour guide beforehand. Green tea is a popular beverage. Vietnamese cuisine is generally rich and varied and enjoyed the world over.

Religion – Vietnam is officially an atheist state. As per polls, a majority of the population doesn’t believe in a God. The others however practice Buddhism or are Christians.

Time Zone – The Vietnamese time zone is GMT+7.

What you may find – Conical hats: Traffic: Silk Shops; Rice paddies: Buffalos: Landscapes: Lot of two-wheelers.

On this 10 day coastal Vietnam bike tour, capture an unforgettable snapshot of Vietnam’s shoreline, challenge yourself with scenic climbs, and explore a side of Vietnam unseen by most. Cycle central Vietnam’s iconic sandy-white beaches framed by coconut palms, with the sails of junks and sampans floating on the emerald green horizon of the South China Sea. The narrowest section of this unconditionally friendly country holds an incredible number of sights to feast your eyes on, making your ride worth the effort!

Tackle the twists and turns of the Hai Van Pass and reward yourself with a view of the Marble Mountains, a haunting spot created by a cluster of 5 elemental rocks. Bike past the paddy fields of Hoi An to encounter scenes of Vietnamese rural life. Observe the planting and harvesting techniques passed down through generations that are nearly as old as the Truong Son peaks of the area flowing down into the sea.

Remote, scenic backroads snake us through tribal and Viet villages before throwing us out onto the Hon Gom peninsular road. Here, the dazzling shore is broken up by wild sand dunes and beautiful rocky promontories jutting out into the water. And get away from it all to unwind and enjoy the seclusion of Whale Island for a well-deserved rest at journey’s end.

Great opportunity to enjoy some of the locals fruits and foods while burning off some calories with new friends from around the globe!

I can't imagine a better way to see a country – cycling through the central Vietnam coast was everything I imagined it would be. Felt more like a local than a tourist!

A fantastic experience I would recommend to anyone who can ride a bike! Lee was a brilliant guide and great company for the 10 days we were together. The tour was a perfect combination of biking, seeing the sites and eating excellent food. Thanks for a great trip and I can't wait for the next one!

Activity Profile

What's included, what's excluded, trip profile.

Our biking adventure takes us from Hue to Nha Trang by bus, boat, and bike. Lots of time on this tour is spent sight-seeing and exploring Vietnam. The cycling is on a mixture of well-surfaced roads and good quality, wide dirt tracks. Away from the main roads, cycling in Vietnam is often a wonderful experience; the bicycle is still the most common form of transport, and you will share the road with girls in flowing ao dais, school children, and farmers.

The rest days are at the end of this tour where we have time to relax at Whale Island before heading to Nha Trang for onward connections. By the end of the tour, we hope you will really feel you have come to know and perhaps even understand Vietnam and the Vietnamese.

Suitability: This trip is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. This trip is not too arduous, and so riders with less experience are more than welcome, although the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy it.

Biking Conditions: This trip is mainly on good quality tarmac roads and some vehicle-width dirt roads. Day 4 has an off-road trail (can be rocky), but an easier alternative is available if required. An air-conditioned support bus travels behind the group. On the occasions when it is impossible for the bus to follow, our guide follows behind on a motorcycle. Participants can cycle as much or as little as they like and still enjoy the same views as the rest of the group.

Day 1 Meet in Hue

We start are bicycle tour in Vietnam by meeting in Hue (you can fly to Hue from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi – SpiceRoads can arrange these internal flights). Hue is the old capital of the Nguyen Dynasty. It is worth arriving in the morning, so you have time to explore this wonderfully historic city. If you arrive in time, we offer a city tour by bike. Alternatively, you can fly into Danang and transfer up to Hue (transfer can be arranged at an additional cost).

Day 2 Hue - Lang Co

We leave Hue and follow the coast as we pass roads shaded by coconut palms, and dunes scattered with mini mausoleums, pagodas, and war memorials. We ride to Phuoc Tuong Hill and then transfer the final 40 km to Lang Co Beach. Here we have lunch and the rest of the day is free to enjoy the resort and beach.

cycling tour vn

Day 3 Lang Co - Hoi An

Today is a tough start as we have Hai Van Pass to climb today, which is a 10-km climb and ascends 550 m. It is a gradual climb with many switchbacks, and once at the top, you get superb views, well worth the ride. The reward is a downhill to Danang, our destination for lunch. After lunch. we have a flat and very scenic ride to Hoi An. It is just a short distance to the Marble Mountains, an outcrop of five rocks said to represent the five elements, (Wood, Water, Metal, Fire, and Earth). We then visit Da Nang beach, formerly named China Beach, made famous by the American TV series “China Beach”. After a brief stop at the beach, we continue down this country road to Hoi An. The town was known as Faifo to early western traders and was one of Southeast Asia’s major trading ports during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was an important point of call for Chinese, Japanese, and Portuguese traders, and the architecture reflects its cosmopolitan past. More than anywhere in Vietnam, Hoi An retains the feel of the past with over 844 structures of historical significance, and most people spend the day wandering around and enjoying the sights and atmosphere.

cycling tour vn

Day 4 Hoi An - My Son - Hoi An

Staying another night in Hoi An, we ride out on small village roads on our way to visit My Son, the ancient centre of the Cham civilisation. The ride is worth the effort and is arguably one of the best of the trip. We cycle along scenic country backroads past paddy fields, passing through secluded villages tucked away in this beautiful area, far off from the tourist track. Eventually, we arrive at My Son, which was once Champa’s greatest city. Although many of the temples were destroyed by American bombs, there is still enough of the archaeological site to impress most visitors. We take lunch before spending the afternoon visiting the site. In the afternoon, we transfer by bus back to Hoi An. Dinner is on your own tonight so get adventurous and try the delicious Vietnamese food Hoi An’s markets have to offer!

cycling tour vn

Day 5 Hoi An - Quang Ngai

In the morning, we have a pleasant ride from Hoi An to Tam Thanh to enjoy the beach and lunch. We then transfer and spend the afternoon at My Lai, where we have a climb to an old temple to visit the memorial and museum. Here we have a guided tour learn about this site of one of the worst massacres of the American War. We then transfer to our hotel.

cycling tour vn

Day 6 Quang Ngai - Qui Nhon

We leave early for the journey to Qui Nhon, the capital city of Binh Dinh province, an American port and supply centre during the Vietnam War and refuge for thousands of Vietnamese fleeing the vicious bombing of the countryside. After we transfer 2.5 hours, we hop on our bikes continue riding toward Quy Nhon. Today’s ride is a treat and is one of the most scenic, through rolling coastal line, rice paddy fields, salt making flats, fishing villages, and mountainous areas. We end the day with a short transfer to your hotel in Quy Nhon.

cycling tour vn

Day 7 Dieu Tri - Tuy Hoa

We transfer out of town to avoid the main highway and start riding at Dieu Tri along a remote but well surfaced road running alongside the railway. The terrain is gently rolling, with beautiful views of the highland foothills. We pass a mix of tribal and Viet villages. Ubiquitous potbellied pigs and barefoot children trot across your trail. Soon, we loop back to the main highway with a small climb and descent to finish the ride. We then transfer about one hour to Tuy Hoa, one of the most rural regions in Vietnam.

cycling tour vn

Day 8 Tuy Hoa - Whale Island

Today is the last cycling day and is perhaps the most memorable. We ride from our hotel, and after the first 20 km the scenery becomes very beautiful with looming mountains and a network of lush rice paddies across the valley. Prepare for a brutal hill today as we cycle to Vung Ro Bay and up the challenging Ca Pass. We are rewarded with jungle and bay views and stop for pictures at Vung Ro Bay before pushing through the last 3km and to the top of Ca Pass (10% grade). We make our way to Dai Lanh Beach, where we stop for refreshments and a swim for those who don’t mind getting their bike shorts wet, then transfer to Dam Mon. We may have the option to bike to Dam Mon if the traffic and dust conditions allow. The scenery here is like a moonscape and unlike anything else we have seen on the tour. Here, we swap bikes for boats and head to Whale Island for some well-deserved R&R. The boat journey will take about 10 minutes and we stay at the secluded Whale Island resort for two nights.

cycling tour vn

Day 9 Whale Island Rest Day

Today is a free day on Whale Island. You can take the opportunity to relax by the beach or perhaps do some snorkeling or scuba diving. We will all meet in the evening for a farewell dinner.

Day 10 Whale Island – Nha Trang

We transfer back to the mainland and then onto Nha Trang for any onward connections. We can assist those looking to stay longer or Whale Island or around Nha Trang with hotel and travel arrangements. Alternatively, for those who want to bike more in Vietnam, we have a four-day mountain bike trip in Dalat or a five-day trip to the Mekong Delta. Please ask for our itineraries.

Disclaimer: The adventure cycling tours we operate often go beyond the beaten track, and the countries where we ride are not always predictable. Due to these reasons, it is occasionally necessary to reroute or update itineraries. Our guarantee is that we will not change a trip unless for safety or to improve it. Our listed hotels are always accurate at the time of writing, but should we have to change any hotel, it will always be for a similar or better one.

Nuts & Bolts

Because some people can't imagine going on a trip without their own beloved bicycle, we do not provide them as part of this tour. However, you can hire bikes locally for the price listed in the tour pricing section.

If you bring your own bike, please make sure it is a mountain bike, preferably with front suspension in good mechanical order.

Bike Repairs

Basic spares and tools are carried by the guide and on the support vehicle, though we cannot guarantee having spares for every conceivable problem. Carrying a basic tool kit, a spare tube and a pump while riding is recommended.

Wearing a helmet is required on all our biking adventures and is non negotiable. If you do not wear a helmet you will not be allowed to cycle. Your tour leader is trained in first aid and emergency rescue, but to a large degree you must be responsible for your own safety while riding. It is therefore compulsory that you take out travel insurance that will cover you for a mountain biking tour.

You will be led by a local English-speaking guide and if the group is 9 people or more we will add another guide to the tour. All our guides are well informed in the history, culture and religions of the area where you are biking and are skilled at passing that knowledge on to you. Your guide is also medically trained and an experienced cyclist, able to handle most minor repairs en route.

The Nitty Gritty

Passports and visas.

If your nationality is not on the list for e-visa eligibility, or you need options for longer stays or multiple entries, then you may consider Visa on Arrival. The process for this is more complicated than e-visa and requires the acquisition of a visa letter prior to arrival. Please see here for a detailed overview.

See here for recommendations and detailed information.

Weather in Vietnam is divided into 4 main regions - the far north, north, central and south.

The far north can get very cold in December and January while the dry season runs from October to late March and the wet season between April to September.

In Hanoi & the north, it is hot, wet and humid from May to October while November to April is cooler and dry.

Central Vietnam experiences hot, dry weather between January & August with temperatures ranging in the mid 30°C. High levels of rainfall are during September - November.

Southern Vietnam is dry and hot from November to April, and warm and wet between May & October, with the highest rainfall in June, July & August.

Meals are included as per the itinerary where B = breakfast, L = lunch, D = dinner. Most meals are Vietnamese food and features noodles, rice curries and soups. Vietnamese cuisine is world famous and we make sure you sample as much variety as possible. Any special dietary requirements can also be catered for as well. Please let us know at the time of booking.

Keeping you completely hydrated is a job we take very seriously. Cold water, some energy-restoring local fruit, and soft drinks are included in the tour price while riding. Soft drinks and other beverages during meals are not included. Beer is freely available everywhere in Vietnam but is NOT included in the price.

Solo Travelers

SpiceRoads does not require you to pay a surcharge for traveling alone. We will arrange for you to share accommodation with another traveler of the same gender and if we can not match you up we will provide a single room at no extra charge. If you prefer not to share a single supplement is payable to guarantee your own room. The cost of the single supplement is listed above.

Extra Expenses

We recommend that you tuck away a few extra dollars, perhaps US$10, for incidentals. It is customary to tip local tour guides and drivers, however, the amount you give should be dependent on the level of service you receive. As a general guide, we suggest US$ 3-4 per person per day is appropriate.

The official national currency is the Vietnam dong (d), but the US dollar is widely accepted in tourist centers. However, in smaller towns and villages the dong is preferred. ATMs are available in all major tourist destinations and big cities. Vietcombank has the best network with a single withdrawal limit of 2,000,000d (about US$125). Most major currencies can be exchanged at leading banks in Vietnam, but the US dollar is preferred away from the tourist centers. Changing US$100 will make you an instant millionaire! You cannot legally take the dong out of Vietnam but you can reconvert reasonable amounts of it into US dollars on departure.

Trip Extensions

Day 1: saigon & the mekong delta.

This morning we transfer south from Saigon to the bustling river town of Cai Be. Today’s cycling takes us past endless green rice fields, farms and villages, connected by the gentle pathways of the Mekong Delta. We’ll visit a traditional Cao Dai temple, sample locally grown dragon fruit and Durian, and by late afternoon arrive in the bustling port city of Can Tho for the first of two nights.

Relax this evening onboard a boutique sampan, enjoying dinner and drinks as we cruise at sunset. Special Information:   Your day begins with a 2-hour transfer from your hotel in Saigon to the Mekong area. Today’s ride covers 25.6 km (15.9 mi) through rice fields, farms, and villages, with a gentle elevation gain of 110m throughout the day. Enjoy smooth, paved paths with plenty of stops for coffee, tea, and snacks.

Day 2: Explore the Mekong Delta

Our day starts from the hotel, we’ll pedal off to the nearby ferry that crosses the Mekong for our last day of cycling and Delta adventures. This region features many sites constructed during Khmer rule of the Delta and today nearly 1.5 million people of Cambodian descent still call this area home.

We’ll pedal the lush Delta area and hop on some islands before another delicious lunch at the local home. Once we’ve eaten, it’s time to board the boat for a 1h15 min transfer back to Can Tho. Arriving in the afternoon to enjoy your hotel.

Special Information:  You'll start your morning with a 37.6 km (23.4 mi) ride with a 139m elevation gain throughout the day, on mostly paved paths, with occasional unpaved sections. After a delicious lunch with a local family, enjoy a relaxing 1.5-hour boat trip to your evening hotel.

Day 3: Flight to Da Nang & Hue

We’ll be up early to visit one of the last authentic floating markets in Vietnam, here in Can Tho. The time between breakfast and lunch is free to explore at your leisure to allow time to wander or relax before our flight to Da Nang and transfer to Hue where we will be spending two nights.

This evening enjoy the comfort and serenity of our leafy resort on the outskirts of Hue.

Special Information:   Today is a travel day! You'll start with a 30-minute boat ride to explore Cai Rai Floating Market, followed by a quick transfer back to the hotel for breakfast. Then, with your guide, head to Can Tho Airport for your flight to Da Nang. A 2-hour transfer will bring you to your hotel in Hue, where you'll stay for the next two nights.

Day 4: Hue Highlights

Our cycling route today reveals ancient, historic Hue. We’ll bike Hue’s Citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage site where ancient kingdoms held sway. The scale of the complex is stunning, even allowing that large sections were destroyed during the American war. Hue was perfectly situated to be the cultural and political heart of Vietnam and reveals both traditional and French colonial influences. Onward to Thien Mu Pagoda, a seven-story structure overlooking the Perfume River. From here we’ll journey by boat along the river, continuing our cycling after lunch. We will then pedal on to nearby sacred tombs of former emperors, geographically in the center of this long narrow country, the nearby countryside affords scenic routes past perfectly tended small farms and rice fields.

Tonight a local family welcomes us for dinner to learn secrets of Hue’s cuisine and share stories with hosts.

Special Information:  Today’s loop ride around Hue is the longest of the tour, covering 44.9 km (27.9 mi) with a 250m elevation gain throughout the day, on mostly paved paths. Our support van is always on hand, so feel free to take a breather whenever you need!

Day 5: Hue to Hoi An via Hai Van Pass

Get a good stretch this morning! We transfer out of Hue to the starting point of our ride, up and over Vietnam’s iconic Hai Van Pass. This 21 kilometer stretch of road features 10 kilometers of steady, achievable climbing as it traverses the Truong Son mountain range, providing spectacular views of the coast down below.

Safely over the pass we cycle towards DaNang for a fresh seafood lunch before transferring to Hoi An. On arrival in Hoi An we’ll check in to our hotel then take to the streets for a walking tour of the Old Town including some hidden spots as well as some delicious local snacks followed by a delicious dinner with specialties of Hoi An. Tonight is the first of 3 nights in the historic center of Hoi An.

Special Information:  The day kicks off with a 2-hour transfer from your hotel to the riding point in Lang Co. You’ll then cycle from Lang Co over Hai Van Pass to a restaurant in Da Nang city.

The Hai Van Pass features a challenging 10 km climb followed by a lovely descent. Our support vehicle is always available, so you can comfortably push your limits, take breaks as needed, and hop in the van to relax and enjoy the view whenever you need a breather.  Today's ride covers 40.3 km (25 mi) with a 582m elevation gain on paved paths. After a celebratory and well-deserved lunch, hop in the van for a 2-hour transfer to Hoi An.

Day 6: Cycle to My Son

Cycling from the hotel across the river, you will be passing traditional villages, farms and rice fields on the way to the ruins of My Son, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Built by the Cham people, a kingdom eventually conquered by the Vietnamese and Khmer, the ruins remain in decent shape, though covered in moss.

Returning to Hoi An by van transfer, we’ll meet students and artisans from Reaching Out Vietnam, a social enterprise that provides opportunities for people with disabilities to learn skills and gain meaningful employment, helping them lead independent and fulfilling lives.

This evening you’re free to enjoy dinner on your own in Hoi An where the restaurant offerings are endless and your guides can happily help with suggestions.

Special Information:  Start your final ride of the tour this morning, biking from your hotel to My Son sanctuary. You’ll cover 39.4 km (24.5 mi) with 215m of elevation gain throughout the day, mostly on smooth pavement with some fun unpaved sections.

After soaking in the sights at My Son, you'll hop in the van for a 30-minute transfer to lunch. Then, enjoy the views as you hop back in the van for an hour-long transfer to explore the old town’s local attractions. A short 15-minute walk takes you to your hotel for a well-deserved leisurely afternoon.

Day 7: Kayaking, Cooking, & Evening Farewell Dinner

It’s a short walk from the hotel to the dock where our kayaks are tied up. We’ll paddle downstream along the Tu Bon River towards the sea, passing Hoi An’s waterfront and the edge of a mangrove forest. It’s 1.5 hours to the Red Bridge Cooking School where we will leave our kayaks to join one of their award winning cooking classes, which includes lunch, before transferring back to the hotel.

Late afternoon we have a short transfer to Tra Que, the town’s highly rated organic vegetable farm village. Our local hosts show us their farming techniques and prepare a signature dish for our group. A farewell dinner awaits to conclude your Vietnam adventure to a delicious meal.

Day 8: Hoi An Coffee Experience

An early breakfast allows time to walk to our favorite Vietnamese coffee emporium, owned by one of Vietnam’s most decorated coffee roasters. Our private coffee tasting offers a sample of both traditional and contemporary styles. You will have the chance to experience making Vietnamese egg & filter coffee.

We will get back to the hotel in plenty of time for final packing or strolling the Old Quarter. Transfers to DaNang airport are available throughout the day.

VN BIKE TOUR has always been so proud to say that since the inception of the company, we have never been involved in a single accident with our valued guests on all of our tours. All of our drivers are well trained and extremely careful to provide our guests the safest and best quality of service. However, despite our best efforts, we understand that sometimes accidents do happen not because of our fault. We cannot control other drivers on the streets and there may be an eventually unfortunate situation, in which one of our guests gets injured while being with us on the tour. That is why the accident insurance is there to offer our guests the best security they could have. This accident insurance covers $5,000 or 20,000,000 Vietnam Dong for your injuries in case of an accident. This insurance from our company covers by cash. So you can use your traveler insurance as well. This amount of money can cover most of major medical courses here in Vietnam. This coverage is guaranteed and has its power the moment you go on one of our tours and ends once the tour is over. You are insured for any bodily injury that is a direct result of an accident that occurs while riding on our motorbikes. Theft or loss of property is NOT covered. Even though our accident insurance offers comprehensive health coverage, we still recommend that all travelers to Vietnam should have a good travel insurance policy for themselves. Most travel insurance policies should cover “motorbikes in Vietnam”.

Tadej Pogačar misses out on GP Québec win on return to WorldTour action

Slovenian finishes seventh in first race back since third Tour de France victory

  • Sign up to our newsletter Newsletter

Tadej Pogacar

Tadej Pogačar was denied the win on his return to WorldTour racing at the GP Québec, but he showed ominous signs of what’s to come as his World Championships preparation ramps up in Canada.

The Slovenian has not raced since taking his third Tour de France victory in July. Pogačar tore into the final laps on the Québec circuit, urging his UAE Emirates teammates to ramp up the pace as he got set to launch a typically unanswerable attack to get the race won.

The attack eventually came, although he took Arnaud De Lie and two other Lotto Dstny riders with him which resulted in the move breaking down. A late surge from the peloton meant that the main field came back to the four riders before Michael Matthews eventually took the victory .

Biniam Girmay came home in second and Groupama FDJ’s Rudy Molard took third.

Pogačar was forced to settle for seventh after being boxed in during the reduced bunch sprint for the line. He admitted that he had hesitated in the finale and should have attacked earlier. Nevertheless, he explained that he was satisfied with his physical shape ahead of the GP Montréal on Sunday and said he felt prepared for the challenge ahead.

"We managed to do a really hard last couple of laps but I was not sure in the last kilometre if I would attack or not, but I made the wrong decision and waited for the sprint," he said. "But I'm super happy to be back, the legs were turning good and I cannot wait for Sunday."

"I was not expecting these good legs to be back," he added. "So I'm super happy with the shape and how I managed the first race after a bit of a rest. I think I'm ready for Sunday and the World Championships now."

Pogačar has won the GP Montréal before in 2022, and this Sunday’s race is likely to be a better form indicator for the Slovenian as he gets set to travel to Zurich for the worlds later this month.

He suggested that he regretted the decision to keep his powder dry until the closing moments in Québec, but said that he would not allow himself to dwell on it as his preparations for a shot at the rainbow bands continue.

"I did not go for a longer attack because I looked back and there was still a gap with one kilometre to go," he explained. "With three guys from Lotto I was thinking we would make it to the finish, but the group was coming from behind really fast and I should have launched it before.

"Maybe I could have stayed away but it is what it is, it was really fun racing and I enjoyed it a lot."

Ride through Upstate NY wine country with the only rail bike history tours in the U.S.

An Upstate New York rail bike company is offering a workout with a historical twist on its rail bike rides—the only one of its kind in the U.S.

Finger Lakes Rail Riders in Penn Yan claims to be the only rail bike company in America which provides a historical narration of the area as you pedal through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Upstate New York’s wine country .

They were also awarded a Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award earlier this year, according to an announcement on their Facebook page .

At FLRR, riders will travel in pairs, with a solo seat option to ride with the guide, along a mostly flat five-mile path . The two-hour excursion includes a 25- to 30-minute narration of Yates County history, delivered with a humorous touch by your guide through a two-way radio on each bike.

Think Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” but Upstate New York style.

Over the course of your journey, you will see working farms, relics from the railroad that was once there, and a one-room Mennonite schoolhouse. Participants are encouraged to ask questions along the way.

Adirondack RailBike Adventures

See rail bike companies across Upstate NY

Rail bikes are a unique way to see the state's beautiful landscapes.

“People can come and ride on existing railroads that have been here since 1851,” founder and owner Kathy Ferron told RochesterFirst. “They can get a little exercise, they can see some beautiful scenery — Yates County is an absolutely spectacular place to see.”

While in the area, visit some of the finest Penn Yan has to offer in the Finger Lakes , including paddling on beautiful Keuka Lake , delicious breakfast from the Penn Yan Diner , and not one, but two award-winning ice cream spots, The Spotted Duck and Seneca Farms .

FLRR rides run Sunday through Tuesday and Friday through Saturday from now until October 29. The cost per two-seater bike is $88 and there is no age limit to how young or how old a rider has to be.

One person can pedal for two, as long as their fitness level allows it.

FLRR answers more questions about their rides on their website FAQ page .

Rail bike options have grown over the years, giving some abandoned railroad tracks new life by allowing passengers to travel down them on two or four person machines. There are several companies across Upstate New York which offer different kinds of excursions and experiences. Some even offer pet-friendly rail bike tours.
