Glass Animals have announced their North American “Dreamland Tour.” The run kicks off August 30th in Lewiston, NY and takes the band across North America well into 2022.

The North American ‘Dreamland’ Tour arrives in addition to Glass Animals  already sold out UK tour dates, previously announced Red Rocks shows, and confirmed festival performances at Bonnaroo, Life Is Beautiful, and Outside Lands. Fans can purchase tickets on Thursday, May 6th at 10am local time through the band’s official website .

In addition to announcing the ‘Dreamland’ Tour, Glass Animals was selected as 2021 Billboard Music Awards finalists for Top Rock Song “Heat Waves” and Top Rock Album, Dreamland . This is the first time the band has been recognized by the BBMAs. The Billboard Music Awards Live will take place Sunday, May 23rd at 8pm EST/5pm PT on NBC.

Best Cranberries Songs: 20 Essential Tracks That Linger On

Earlier this month, Glass Animals performed “Heat Waves” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon , where the band took over Margate’s Dreamland Theme Park and brought it back to life with an electrifying performance. In addition, they performed on The Ellen Degeneres Show , where they took over a skate rink and used fan submitted footage to fill the television screens behind their performance.

Glass Animals: Heat Waves | The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

“Heat Waves” is taken from Glass Animals’ critically acclaimed third album Dreamland released last summer and this week was certified Platinum in the US. Neary a year since its release, the song continues to grow globally across streaming platforms and on radio charts. Amassing over 450 million global streams to date, “Heat Waves” peaked at No.1 on the Alternative Radio Chart for 3 consecutive weeks, a first for Glass Animals in their career.

The track currently sits in the Top 20 on the Top 40 Radio Chart and is making similar moves at Hot AC and AAA. “Heat Waves” held the No.1 spot on the ARIA Official Singles Chart in Australia for six consecutive weeks, marking the band’s first #1 single globally and in their release history. Last week, it hit a new peak on Spotify’s Global Top 50 Chart at #25. With over 2.5 million global adjusted single sales, the song has amassed 2 million daily streams and received 16 million views of the video on YouTube. Glass Animals recently hit a new Spotify monthly listener peak of 17.2 million, surpassing the likes of Tame Impala, Gorillaz, The 1975 and The Strokes.

Since its initial release last June, “Heat Waves” has experienced a global rise in support. Having originally resonated with Glass Animals fans, word quickly spread, and the track started getting healthy traction at radio globally. Next came a sync placement on FIFA, which opened up a whole new audience and helped the track begin to climb charts all over the world. “Heat Waves” most notably was then crowned number 1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 – an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009 with previous winners including Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish. A third surge in attention came more recently with an organic Minecraft affiliation, whereby the YouTuber LoverFella (2.3M subscribers) rebuilt a Glass Animals fan’s base and surprised her with a meet and greet with the band who were waiting inside. . Dave Bayley recently sat down to chat about the track’s creation with Hrishikesh Hirway on the coveted Song Exploder Podcast .

Glass Animals’ album Dreamland entered UK charts on its opening week at No.2 (their highest ever scoring chart position, a massive 21 spots above their last album, Mercury Prize nominated How To Be A Human Being ) and charted inside the top 10 in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. The album clocked up 160 million streams in its first week of release.

Yesterday, Glass Animals announced details of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, I Love You So F***ing Much , set for release on July 19th . The album is introduced by the band’s new single, “ Creatures in Heaven ,” out now—listen HERE and watch the visualizer HERE .

I Love You So F***ing Much is the follow-up to 2020’s critically revered Dreamland , which sold over 12 million copies globally and gave life to “ Heat Waves ,” the record-breaking song that became the biggest international hit from a British band in almost 30 years . It was the first song by a British band since the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” in 1995 to claim #1 for five consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 , and the first song to reach #1 with a single writer and producer since Pharell’s “Happy” —leading to the pop world’s biggest acts, including Florence Welch , all wanting to work with Glass Animals frontman, songwriter, and producer, Dave Bayley . But the birth of I Love You So F***ing Much was an existential crisis. Dave found himself struggling to make sense of this newfound global stardom, having watched it all happen while the world was in lockdown.

He says, “Life can change dramatically, but sometimes you aren’t able to change as quickly on a personal level. You end up feeling like a spectator. And then you are asked and expected to be a certain type of person, a different person. But…I wasn’t sure how. It confused me to the point of not knowing who I was or if anything was real.” It took being stranded on a cliff in a wooden house on stilts during one of California’s biggest storms in history to push that feeling into a full existential crisis. In forced isolation, watching trees tumble down mountains and assuming “death was coming,” Dave began asking questions of himself, of the universe, and of the human experience: namely, love. As he came to accept himself as an introvert, Dave realized that “human connection and the love between us is much bigger, more important, and more complex than anything else” . “Creatures in Heaven” is the sublime first glimpse into ten intimate love stories set against the backdrop of the universe.

'We Thought It Was Over': Glass Animals' Joe Seaward 'Nearly Died' After Being Struck by Truck

Glass Animals singer Dave Bayley, who penned the band's hit sing 'Heat Waves,' says that he began writing the song while visiting drummer Joe Seaward in the hospital.

By Stephen Andrew - September 6, 2024 07:07 pm EDT

Glass Animals drummer Joe Seaward is lucky to be alive. Back in 2018, the musician "nearly died," says bandmate Dave Bayley, after he was struck by a truck while biking in Dublin, Ireland. Now, Bayley, the frontman for Glass Animals, has opened up about the tragic events, saying, "We thought it was over."

"He lived in Dublin for a long time. He very nearly died. We thought it was over – that the band was over," said Bayley in a new interview with The Irish Times . "There was an absolutely genius surgeon in Dublin who saved his life. The whole nursing and physio team there literally resurrected him. It was incredible to watch and I'm so grateful to them. They came to the show the last time we were in Dublin. In one box was Joe's family and the doctors and the nurses who took care of him." The Irish Times noted that Glass Animals' mega-hit song "Heat Waves" was one that Bayley wrote during the uncertain time following Seaward's July 2018 accident, which left him with a collapsed skull that caused damage to the area of the brain responsible for speech.

"I got the news from his dad," Bayley recalled. "I'd just landed in London and got a call. I could tell as soon as I heard the tone. He was like, 'Joe's been hit.' He was playing it down. I think he was playing it down to himself. I got the red-eye flight in the morning, got there, met his family. Then it dawned on me how severe it was."

Bayley "spent weeks" hanging around Beaumont Hospital sleeping in waiting rooms and eating nothing but vending machine food. This solitude, he says, is where "Heat Waves" began to form. "Weirdly that is where the third album [began]... your brain goes to weird places," the singer confessed. "Your adrenaline level is 100 out of 100. You're not sleeping a wink because you're worried. You're sitting on an uncomfortable plastic chair in a waiting room – expecting bad news."

"In those situations, to comfort yourself, you go back in time and relive all these memories," he added. "Those memories ended up being the foundation of that third record – a very strange time. I'm so happy it went the way it did [that Seaward survived – not that he was hurt in the first place]. Literally unbelievable – it's a miracle."
