CONCERT REVIEW : Nik Kershaw – Oran Mor Glasgow 29th September 2023
Glasgow’s Oran Mor was getting ready to host the famous musician Nik Kershaw’s sold-out show. As people’s excitement grew, lines started to form outside the venue. Everyone wanted to get the best spot possible so they could fully enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience. The low ceiling and unique setting of Oran Mor, which used to be a church but is now a basement venue, made it the perfect place for a concert. This added to the general atmosphere and made it a truly memorable event.
Seb Wesson, a London-based artist, was the event’s support act tonight, and he left the Glasgow audience very satisfied. Wesson effortlessly captured the crowd from the start, showcasing songs from his latest album, The Man From the Moon, and kept their complete attention throughout his concert set. Notably, his exceptional engagement with the audience brought an extra element of appeal to his already superb performance.
The atmosphere at the Glasgow venue was electric as fans awaited the arrival of Nik Kershaw for his highly anticipated No Glitz Just Hitz tour. With the venue nearly full, the excitement was apparent. The crowd exploded in cheers and clapping as soon as Nik took the stage. Opening with the catchy and beloved classic “Come on Down,” the audience couldn’t help but join in, singing along with Nik and feeling the exuberant spirit permeate the air. Nik took it all in with a smile, admiring the breathtaking scenery and the passionate supporters in the front. Keeping the momentum rolling, he went into “Radio Musicola,” enthralling the audience with his contagious energy. The night finally came alive when Nik sang the audience favourite “Wide Boy” from The Riddle album, with everyone yelling out the words and dancing in complete bliss. This was a night no one would soon forget, filled with Nik Kershaw’s upbeat and exciting hits.
What a night it was! From the opening songs of the set, the energy in the air was simply electric. The sold-out crowd couldn’t have been happier, as they soaked up every moment of this brilliant show. It wasn’t just a trip down memory lane; it was a night filled with raw passion. As Nik Kershaw took us on a journey through the decades, seamlessly blending old classics like “Somebody Loves You,” “Dancing Girls,” and “Can’t Get Arrested” with newer tunes, the atmosphere became even more euphoric. And when he finally performed the first of his big hits from the album “The Riddle,” the entire venue erupted in joyful sing-alongs. It was impossible not to share in the delight seen on the faces of both the band and Nik himself. This truly was a night to remember.
Jumping in and out of his albums, the amazing Nik Kershaw captivated the dynamic city of Glasgow with iconic tunes like Cowboys and Indians, When a Heart Beats, and Bogart. The crowd’s age range was slightly varied, although it was largely older people. However, both young and old were overjoyed with the performance. The band sang favourites including Wouldn’t It Be Good, The Sky’s The Limit, and I Won’t Let The Dun Go Down On Me before Nik Kershaw departed the stage for a well-deserved short rest before the encore. It was a night of sheer delight and musical beauty!
Nik Kershaw and his band were greeted warmly by the Glasgow fans when they returned to the stage. Nik pleased the audience with his superb performance of “Roses” and drew the night to a conclusion with the renowned Chesney Hawkes song, “The One and Only.” The atmosphere was fantastic all night, and it was an incredible pleasure to see the renowned Nik Kershaw in action.

It’s an 80s double header when chart toppers GO WEST and NIK KERSHAW come together for a national co-headline Australian tour in March 2024.
Due to overwhelming demand a second and final show has been added on Sunday 17 March at City Recital Hall, Sydney!
Fans can expect to hear some of the best songs of the 80s and early 90s including We Close Our Eyes, King Of Wishful Thinking, Call Me and many more from Go West, whilst Nik Kershaw fans will relive songs such as Wouldn’t it Be Good, The Riddle, Wide Boy and more. Both acts bring some surprising songs and covers to their sets too that promise an evening of music hits from across the decades.
“The last time we were in Australia was just before the pandemic so its long overdue. We always enjoy playing across Australia and it will be extra special this year as we tour alongside our mate, Nik Kershaw.. Looking forward to seeing you all in March 2024!” – Go West .
GO WEST are Peter Cox and Richard Drummie. The two have been friends since they were boys and formed Go West in the early 80s. Go West became instant chart toppers when their debut single We Close Our Eyes topped the UK charts in the Spring of 1985. Their self titled debut album sold over 2 million copies worldwide and remained on the UK chart for 83 weeks, establishing them as one of the finest song-writing partnerships to emerge in the 80s.
Six albums and 20 million sales later, Go West are stronger than ever. They have enjoyed numerous chart singles worldwide, notably King Of Wishful Thinking , the opening song in the extremely successful film Pretty Woman . The film’s soundtrack has sold over 10 million copies. King Of Wishful Thinking received ASCAP Awards in 1991 and 1992 as one of the most played songs on American radio. It is still a radio stable on playlists across the world.
NIK KERSHAW exploded onto the UK pop scene in 1984 as a solo artist. A string of global hit singles – including Wouldn’t it Be Good , The Riddle and his biggest hit, I Won’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me – helped to propel him to 62 weeks on the UK Singles Chart through 1984 and 1985 – beating every other solo artist, together with performing at Live Aid. Elton John has described Nik as “the best songwriter of a generation.”
After stepping out of the limelight to concentrate on writing and producing, Nik wrote Chesney Hawkes’s ‘The One and Only’ and has collaborated with Elton John (including writing and producing one of the songs on the Duets album), Sia, Gary Barlow and Bonnie Tyler, whilst continuing to release his own well-reviewed studio albums, featuring his distinctive voice and highly personal lyrics. He also regularly plays festivals and performs live to his loyal and fervent fanbase. VIP ticket package includes:
1 x Premium Seated Ticket to the show 1 x Meet & Greet with Nik Kershaw & Go West 1 x Photo with Nik Kershaw & Go West 1 x Signed Tour Poster 1 x VIP Laminate

“The last time we were in Australia was just before the pandemic,” Go West said in a joint press statement, “so this tour is long overdue. We always enjoy playing across Australia and it will be extra special this year as we tour alongside our mate, Nik Kershaw. We look forward to seeing you all in March 2024!”
The excitement was shared by Kershaw, who added in a statement of his own: “[I’m] looking forward to getting back to Australia after so many years. We always have such a good time playing across the country. See you all in March next year!”
Meanwhile, Lawrence returned to the spotlight last month when she released her first new tune for the year , an emotional jaunt called 5 Years Of You . In announcing its release, she described the track as her “heartfelt, self-penned song about my five-year-old starting school, and all of the emotions that go with life’s changes and big milestones”.
It followed her sole release for 2023: the standalone single Live A Country Song , for which Countrytown premiered the official music video.

NIK KERSHAW Announces The 1984 Tour – Coming To A UK City Near You This October!
Nik kershaw, the man once (allegedly) described by elton john as “the best songwriter of his generation”, has announced that he and his fabulous band will be coming to cities all over the uk this october, for ‘the 1984 tour’..

At the same time, he released two platinum selling albums, ‘Human Racing’, and ‘The Riddle’. 40 years down the track it seems appropriate that Nik and his crew will take to the road and perform both albums in their entirety – an event never likely to happen again – so don’t miss out.
Nik and his band will be performing two sets, so note that there is no support act for this tour.
