How to Find Your Dodge Radio Code

Why your dodge needs a radio code, how to find your dodge radio code, how to upgrade your car insurance coverage, how to look up your dodge radio code.

  • VIN : Your Dodge’s VIN—a 17-character alpha-numeric sequence—can be found in a number of places, with the most obvious being on a small plaque on the drivers side of the dashboard, which should be visible through the windshield. You can also find the VIN in your vehicle registration paperwork and on your insurance card.
  • Serial number : If you have an older model Dodge, you will need to remove the radio unit in order to locate the radio’s serial number—we suggest having a professional perform this service to avoid damaging the stereo unit.
“I can’t thank the Jerry app enough! They saved me $160 a month, and I didn’t even have to talk over the phone. They took care of everything through text.” —Travis Y.

How to Find a Car Radio Code

Unlock a car radio code for free with the help of a car dealer, the manufacturer, or reputable online resources

What to Know

  • Easiest method: Contact your local dealer's service department for the code or to reset the car radio for you.
  • Second method: Go to the automaker's website with your car's information and request the code.
  • Third method: Rely on free or paid online resources and databases.

This article explains the options for finding a car radio code . You can contact a local dealer and talk to the service department, go directly to the website of the automaker that manufactured your vehicle, or rely on free or paid online resources and databases.

Some car radios come with an anti-theft feature that kicks in whenever they lose battery power. This feature typically locks the unit until the correct car radio code is entered. The code is almost always specific to the make and model of the radio and to the exact unit.

If the code for your head unit isn't written down anywhere in your owner's manual, you'll need a few pieces of information ready before you can proceed, including:

  • The make, model, and year of the vehicle.
  • The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle.
  • The brand, serial number, and part number of the radio.

After you have this information, choose one of the three methods to locate the car radio code.

To obtain the brand, serial number, and part number of your radio, you typically have to remove it. If you're uncomfortable with removing and installing a car stereo , take your vehicle to a local dealer and ask the service department to reset the radio for you.

Official OEM Car Radio Code Sources

To obtain a car radio from an official, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) source, you can contact a local dealer or request a code directly from the manufacturer.

Most automakers direct you to your local dealer. Still, a handful, such as Honda, Mitsubishi, and Volvo, allow you to request your code online.

After you gather the relevant information about your car and radio, use the following table of popular vehicle manufacturers to either locate a local dealer or the official online car radio code request site.

If you contact a local dealer, you usually speak with the service department. Ask the service writer whether a technician can look up your car radio code.

There is a chance that you can obtain the code over the phone, but you may need to make an appointment to visit the dealership. You also have the option to take your car to the dealer, where the service department will figure out the serial number of the radio and input the code for you.

If the manufacturer that built your vehicle offers online code lookup, you typically enter your VIN, the serial number of the radio, and contact information, including phone number and email. The code may be emailed to you for your records.

Official Head Unit Manufacturer Code Request

In addition to local dealers and OEM online code request services, you may be able to obtain your car radio code from the company that built the head unit. Some examples of head unit manufacturers that can provide car radio codes are listed in this table:

Every head manufacturer has its own policy regarding car radio codes. In some cases, they can help with any "personal" codes that a previous owner may have set, but they direct you to the vehicle OEM for a factory code.

In other cases, they may require proof of ownership to ensure that the head unit isn't stolen. Unlike vehicle OEMs, head unit manufacturers typically charge a lookup fee to find a car radio code.

Other Sources, Including Online Code Lookup Services and Databases

If the manufacturer of your vehicle doesn't have an online code request service and you prefer using an online resource to contact a local dealer, there are free and paid databases that may be helpful.

Another option is to contact a car audio installer in your area. Because they deal with this type of situation all the time, some car audio installers pay for access to car radio code databases. Since they pay for the information, they typically charge a fee for this service.

Exercise caution when using any site that promises free access to car radio codes, especially if the site asks for your credit card details. There are legitimate sites that offer this type of service, but there's a chance of contracting malware from a malicious site or falling prey to a scammer.

How to get anti-theft code after battery disconnect

  • Add to quote

Anyone know how I find the anti-theft code after a battery disconnect? I looked through my paperwork from when I bought it and can't find anything. Thanks.

2013 dodge journey radio code

I'm curious about this as well because I got the same thing, but it always clears when I start the car. Did you try to enter anything? It should recover itself once you start the car.

2013 dodge journey radio code

Starting in the 2012 model year, RHR, RHB, RES, RHA, REB, RE2, RB5, RB6, RE6 radios in the US all require a Radio Anti-Theft Code to operate. There have been a few cases on 2011 vehicles, JC, LD, LX models. All radios now require an anti-theft code no matter what year vehicle they are installed in. The anti-theft code is only needed when a radio is swapped from one vehicle to another. The radio keeps track of the VIN over the bus and when the VIN changes it will ask for the code. The initial install of a new radio from Mopar should not require a code. Dealers can access the codes required through DealerConnect, by authorized dealer personnel. RADIO ANTI-THEFT CODE PROCEDURE: For the vehicles that are equiped with power net or NTG4 radios. If the Telematics Gateway Module (TGW) or the radio have been removed or replaced. A four digit security code is required in order for the radio to function: The key must be in the "RUN" position. Press the "ON/VOL" control button. The word "CODE" or " Please enter Anti-Theft Code" will appear on the display. Enter the 4-digit code by pressing the corresponding preset buttons in sequence. NOTE: If three consecutive attempts are made to enter an invalid anti-theft code the radio will enter a ‘WAIT’ state. While in this state the radio display will read ‘WAIT’. To exit the ‘WAIT’ state the radio must remain powered with the ignition in the run position for a continuous 30 minutes (the vehicle may be driven during this time). After exiting the ‘WAIT’ state the radio will again display ‘CODE’ and a valid anti-theft code may be entered.

Thank you very much. Very helpful info.

As Cool_V_300C noted, as long as your original radio is the one installed, the Anti-Theft code will clear itself in time. Turn the car off, making sure that you give it enough time to really turn off by opening a door and waiting for the blue light around the USB port in the center console to turn off, then turn it back on. All should be well after that. You just need to give the radio enough time to have a nice conversation with the car so that they're sure that they know each other. You will only need to manually enter a code if you are trying to use a new radio.

ChryslerCares, I hate to keep dragging you into this, but this system really needs a reset option given people could potentially lock themselves out. Right now disconnecting the battery seems to be the only "reset" option. Do you know of any sequence that will reboot the Uconnect radio? Thanks!

Hi CoolV, I've search any & all resources/databases that I have access to and have not been able to locate any quick "reset" option. The only notations I've seen that even discuss this option is after a system update is completed, the screen will read “Reflash Successful” then you touch the screen and the radio will reboot itself. Other than that, I see nothing. I've forwarded this info to the Product Development Team for review, if they respond with some info I will be sure to post it.

Much Appreciated!

If you are lucky enough to have a radio that has the known engineering-mode button combination, you have the option of choosing a factory reset. That can be extremely helpful in certain situations. I'm sure there's a similar option in all of the radios, but nobody has figured the button combo yet.

Dodge Journey Radio Stopped Working: Causes + How to Fix

Dodge Journey Stereo Not Working

Has the radio in your Dodge Journey stopped working?  If so, there are three common causes for this issue .  They are a blown fuse, loose or corroded wiring, and a problem with the radio itself.

If your radio comes on but isn’t working, this article will cover that too: Please jump to the section that’s applicable to your vehicle.

Dodge Journey Radio Not Working

Table of Contents:

Radio Won’t Work At All Causes

The radio is on but no sound, common questions.

The most common reason for a radio to stop working in a car is a blown fuse.

This section covers a Dodge Journey’s radio would show no signs of life. If your radio is lighting up, but no sound is coming from the speakers, head down to the next section.

Cause 1: Blown Fuse

Dodge Journey Radio Won't Work at All

Always start with the simplest and easiest potential cause first, which is the radio fuse. You’ll need to check the fuse box to see if the radio fuse is blown.

How to Test a Fuse

Step 1 : You’ll need to your Dodge Journey’s fuse box location .  On most makes and models, it’s to the left of the driver’s seat (when you are behind the steering wheel).

Step 2 : Once you access your vehicle’s fuse box, you’ll need to locate the radio fuse . You should see a schematic printed on the door.

Step 3 : Test the fuse .  There are two ways to do this. First, you can visually inspect your Journey’s radio fuse.  There’s a wire between the two prongs.  If the connecting filament is damaged, power can’t reach the head unit, and the fuse needs to be replaced.

A better way to verify a fuse is functioning is to use a test light . This can be accomplished without even pulling a fuse.  Here’s how:

2013 dodge journey radio code

Start by finding a good ground source on your Journey to ground the test light to. You can usually find one inside the door jam that will reach the fuse box.

Next, turn the key to the accessory position, and touch the test light tip to both prongs.

If it only lights up for one prong, the fuse has failed, and you’ll need to replace it. If both sides light up, the fuse is fine.

Cause 2: Wiring Issue

2013 dodge journey radio code

If your Journey’s radio fuse checks out, it’s time to determine if there’s a problem with the wiring harness going to the radio system.

Verify that your vehicle’s radio has a solid ground connection.  Use a multimeter to verify the voltage level is accurate.  Any issue with the wiring harness will prevent power from getting to the radio system and cause the fuse to blow again.

Cause 3: The Radio Itself

If there’s power going to your Journey’s radio, and you’ve verified that the ground connection is good and it has power, the only way to get your car working is to repair or replace it.

Cause 1: Broken Antenna

When the tuner is on, there will be static. The CD player or Aux input should still work fine .

A broken antenna is one of the most common issues that cause your Journey’s radio to stop working.  Antennas are reliable,  but they can weaken and eventually break entirely over time, mainly if you frequently utilize drive-through car washes.

If you suspect this might be the problem, check to see if your vehicle’s antenna is in good working condition (is it bolted on?). If it isn’t, then you should replace it.

Cause 2: Anti-Theft Mode

If your vehicle’s stereo is coming on and says to “input radio code, ” you’ll need to find.  Most vehicles come with a card where the number is recorded or written inside the glove box on a sticker. Sometimes it’s printed on the back of the owner’s manual.

Some manufacturers will let you look it up online if you need the code.  If that doesn’t work, you can take it to the dealer and have them pull it. Here are all the ways you can look up your Journey’s radio code.

Cause 3: CD Player or Aux Button Has Been Touched

If your Journey has a CD player or aux button and it was recently touched, then your radio may be stuck in that mode.

You can test this by attempting to connect another device, such as an iPod, to the car’s audio system. If it works, then there is likely an issue with the radio itself.

In this case, you should take your Journey to a professional for repair or replacement.

Does the radio stop working when you crash?

No, your Dodge Journey’s radio should not stop working when you are in a car accident. If it does, then there may be an issue with the wiring or the radio itself (wiring short, blown fuse, no power, and ground connection).

You can check to see if any of the fuses in your vehicle have blown, and if they haven’t, then you should look for loose or corroded wiring in your electrical system.

One of my Dodge Journey’s speakers isn’t working.

The speaker could be blown.  But, you’d likely hear a static sound from the speaker.  It’s more likely to be caused by a damaged speaker wire.

If one of your Journey’s door speakers isn’t working, the most common location of the short will be where the harness enters the door (since it moves).

journey Journey bluetooth not connecting to uConnect

For the second time in six months, my bluetoth phone lost connection with uConnect. I've seen lots of people stating the same problem, and how they were charged serious money to have it "fixed".

Although there are many reasons for this problem, this is what I found worked for me.

1 - Locate the fuse block under the glove box on the right side kick panel. If you can't access it, you may need to hire a left handed, double jointed gymnast .

2 - You need to locate Fuse 131 which is listed in the Manual as the Hands Free Module. Since they are not marked and there is no picture in the manual, I've attached one I found on someone's site.

Its a red 10A fuse in the third column from the right, and the second fuse from the top.

3 - Using long needle-nosed pliers, carefully pull it straight out.

4 - Wait a minute or two, then reinsert it. Not easy, just awkward. Make sure it's properly seated

5 - Now, press the Start button to ACC and with your phone handy, they should connect.

Do you have to do this daily?  Bought a 2020 crossroads and have to reconnect every time  I restart (well not every time, but like 85% of the time).

Did you notice the op hasn’t been back in a year?  Likely won’t get an answer.

I know I had all kinds of issues in my 09 with my IPhone’s not connecting.  UConnect was so helpful I replaced the unit with a Kenwood system, which has been perfect.  What kind of phone do you have?

12 Pro Max.  reading in here suggests that any apple device in the last couple of years will have issues.  Does anyone's bluetooth work flawlessly with these cars or are we all doomed until we just go aftermarket?

This may not apply to you directly, BUT also a good way for an emergency delivery of some of that GOOD Canadian beer that we can't get in the States due to the higher alcohol content.

I just bought a 2018 Journey and my Samsung A21 connects to the Bluetooth and will answer the phone and the music plays (with no on-screen music info)...but I get no sound period. I can use the touch screen to pause the song...answer the phone and all of that...but no sound comes out of the speakers. Any ideas?
