Worse, it could interfere with your ability to re-enter Australia on a tourist visa in the future. If you overstay your visa by more than 28 days, you could even become excluded and prevented from re-entering Australia on a tourist visa for as long as 3 years. Don’t do it.

No, you cannot change your visa type , such as an Australia tourist visa multiple entry, once you are in the country. However, you can apply for a further stay via the Long-Stay Tourist Visa, subclass 676.

Because the consequences of an Australia tourist visa overstay can be so serious, it is critical that you apply for a tourist visa renewal or extension as soon as possible and before your visa has expired . Applying online is fast and convenient.

• Extend your visa

If you are planning to travel to Australia with an eVisitor Tourst Visa, you must know that it is not legal to work with an eVisitor . eVisitor travellers have no right to “work”. However, they can do volunteer work or engage in other business activities, such as business meetings, conferences or seminars . Of course, you can stay in Australia on your tourist visa while looking for work, but once you found it you should obtain a different kind of visa in order to legally maintain your work.

However, working on a “tourist visa” in Australia is fairly common – especially for those who wish to work to pay for their holidays. If you want to legally work in Australia during your holiday though you will need a special, dedicated visa – not an eVisitor. This visa is called “ Working Holiday Visa ” (often referred to also as “Work and Holiday Visa”).

You can do any kind of work or jobs while on a tourist visa in Australia. However, your Work and Holiday Visa must be used within one year of the date it is issued, and it will be active for 12 months from the date you enter the country.

A working holiday visa cannot be extended: if you choose to stay longer, you must apply for a new visa. Additionally, you cannot bring dependent children or other family members with you, and you must pay taxes from anything you earn during your tourist visa working days.

The cost for a working holiday tourist visa is of £ 515.00 as of 2024, but additional costs may also arise, including costs for police certificates, biometrics and health checks. Processing time can take from 13 to 22 days but may take longer if more information is needed or for verification purposes. According to Australia Marriage Law, you do not need to be an Australian resident to get married in Australia . You simply need the tourist visa (e.g. visa subclass 651) and you must file a Notice of Intended Marriage form along with any other requested documents .

Australia has a complex visa policy, but thankfully visiting Australia as a tourist is quite easy. Australia does not offer visa exemption, so all visitors must obtain a tourist visa. All Australia visa applications are done entirely online. 

Quick summary:

• There is no VISA-FREE access to Australia, everyone must hold either an ETA, eVisitor or Visitor visa

Passport validity required

Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay to enter Australia as a tourist.

Entry requirements

All tourists coming to Australia must meet the following conditions:

• Must be free from any disease or condition that may be a burden to Australia’s healthcare system, such as tuberculosis.
• Must be a genuine visitor and obey the rules and conditions set by the visa.
• Must have a good character and not have a substantial criminal record.
• Must have enough money to finance your stay in Australia.

Visa Policy and Visa Types

Australia does not offer VISA-FREE access to any nationality. You would either need an ETA or a visa. The main tourist visas are summarized in the following table:

According to the Trans-Tasman Travel Agreement, citizens of New Zealand receive a free Special Category Visa (subclass 444) on arrival at any Australian port of entry . This allows them to live and work in Australia indefinitely.

All Australian visas are electronic visas. Visa information is linked to the passport number and verifiable online. 

ETA (Electronic Travel Authority, Subclass 601)

Australia ETA is available to nationals of 33 countries and territories listed below. In most cases, the ETA is approved immediately. For that reason, ETA is often considered a visa exemption or visa waiver.

• Vatican City

The ETA application is entirely online and can only be applied using the Australian ETA mobile phone app. The app is available as a free download.

There is no charge to apply for ETA, but using the app itself costs a service charge of 20 AUD.

eVisitor Visa (Subclass 651)

The eVisitor visa is available to nationals of 36 countries exclusively in Europe.

The main difference between the eVisitor visa and the ETA is that the eVisitor requires more documents to be submitted, such as a bank statement as proof of sufficient funds. 

Most eVisitor visa applications are processed within a day. There is no fee to apply for an eVisitor visa. 

The success rate of the eVisitor visa is 98.5%, even higher than the ETA’s success rate of 97%. This means that if you’re eligible for both the ETA and the eVisitor, you can save 20 AUD by applying for the eVisitor as they are identical in all other aspects.

Visitor Visa (Tourist Stream, Subclass 600)

The subclass 600 is Australia’s main tourist visa. It has several streams depending on the purpose such as tourism or business and whether you are applying from outside or within Australia. 

For this guide, we will focus on the visitor visa for tourism that can only be applied from outside Australia. 

Eligibility, validity and duration of stay

Visitor visas for tourism are available to all nationalities. 

Australia issues only eVisas. Therefore, the tourist visa is also an eVisa. The visa will be electronically linked to your passport. You can carry a print of the eVisa with you when you travel. 

Visitors visas are either single or multiple-entry valid for up to 3 years. On each visit, you are allowed to stay up to 3 months. 

Application process and documentation

Applications for tourist visas can be made online through the ImmiAccount portal.

The documents required for a tourist visa include any of the below. The actual documents required depends on a case-by-case basis. 

• Proof of sufficient funds, such as bank statements, pay slips, tax returns, etc.
• Proof of reasons to return home, such as employment letter, property ownership, family dependency, etc. 
• Proof of travel history such as previous visas and entry/exit stamps of the countries you have traveled to.

50% of applications get processed within a week and 90% of all applications get processed within 21 days.

The fee for the tourist visa is 190 AUD.

Benefits of an Australian visa

Transit Visa (Subclass 771) 

Eligible nationalities can transit without a visa (TWOV) through Australian airports. For TWOV, you must meet the following conditions:

• Stay airside and not clear immigration
• Have your onward flight within 8 hours of arriving in Australia
• Hold a passport from the following eligible countries

• New Zealand
• Papua New Guinea
• Philippines
• Solomon Islands
• South Africa
• United Arab Emirates

Transit visa requirements

If you already hold an ETA, eVistor or Visitor visa, then you do not need a transit visa. Rest must obtain a transit visa (subclass 771). The transit visa allows entry into Australia for short stays of up to 72 hours.

To apply for a transit visa, you must have a confirmed onward ticket to another country within 72 hours of arrival and the required visas for it. In addition to those, you may also require proof of adequate health insurance.

Visa Extension

Extensions are not allowed for any of the Australian tourist visas. You are allowed to apply for another visa while you are in Australia, such as the Visitor Visa (Onshore stream).

Certain conditions attached to your current visa may prevent you from applying for another visa while in Australia. The most notable one is Condition 8503: No further stay.

When applying for a new visa from within the country, a Bridging Visa is automatically applied for you. A Bridging Visa will keep your stay lawful while waiting for your new visa to be approved.

As a tourist, you will receive a Bridging Visa A (BVA) while you are waiting for your new visa. BVA expires if you leave Australia.

Entry and Exit Procedures

Australia has one of the most streamlined entry procedures in the world. Passports are not stamped on entry or exit. 

If eligible to use SmartGates, you can process your entry and exit without even speaking to a border official. 

SmartGates eligibility

To use SmartGates at Australian airports, your passport must be an ePassport from one of the following countries. 

You must check your eligibility to use SmartGates at the kiosks just before the gates. If eligible, you will be given a ticket. Then you must proceed to the SmartGates and follow the procedure. 

If not eligible, you will be directed to a border officer.

Other passports

All other passport holders must proceed to an immigration officer box. Answer any questions about your stay and intentions. 

Your passport will not be stamped. But if you need evidence of entry, you can request a stamp. 

Incoming Passenger Card (IPC)

All arriving passengers must complete and present a paper arrival card called Incoming Passenger Card (IPC). You will be given one on your flight to Australia.

Pay attention to the items you must declare. Australia has stringent biosecurity protocols and failure to declare even harmless items, may lead to fines and severe penalties.

The eVisitor, ETA, and most Tourist Visas allow stays of up to 90 days at a time. You need to explicitly apply for a 6-month Tourist Visa to stay in Australia that long.

The eVisitor and the ETA allow unlimited entries into Australia. Regular tourist visas can be either one or multiple entries.

You may be at risk of cyber-based threats during overseas travel to any country. Digital identity theft is a growing concern. Your devices and personal data can be compromised, especially if you’re connecting to Wi-Fi, using or connecting to shared or public computers, or to Bluetooth. 

Social media can also be risky in destinations where there are social or political tensions or laws that may seem unreasonable by Australian standards. Travellers have been arrested for things they have said on social media. Don't comment on local or political events on your social media.

Not all medications available over the counter or by prescription in Australia are available in other countries. Some may even be illegal or controlled substances, even if prescribed by an Australian doctor.

If you stay for over 6 months, you'll pay an  Immigration Health Surcharge , which will be charged when you apply for your visa.

Your details will be shared with the NHS when your visa is approved, allowing you access to medical care. Under this scheme, you must produce your  biometric residence permit  at the doctor's or hospital.

There may be delays in accessing medical treatment through the NHS.

The NHS won't cover the cost if you need a medical evacuation. Medical evacuation can be very expensive. Get comprehensive  travel insurance  before you leave Australia.

You're subject to local laws and penalties, including those that appear harsh by Australian standards. Research local laws before travelling, especially for an extended stay.

If you're arrested or jailed, the Australian Government will do what it can to help you under our  Consular Services Charter . But we can't get you out of trouble or out of jail.

If you're travelling to the UK as a tourist for less than 6 months, you usually won't need a visa.

If you're travelling to the UK for other purposes, seek guidance from the  UK's Visa and Immigration Service  on obtaining a visa.

The UK can refuse entry without a visa if they think you're trying to enter for something other than tourism. You'll need a visa if you plan to do  paid or unpaid work ,  volunteer  or  get married . Arrange this before you travel.

Australian Government officials can't help you change your UK visa status.

Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. Contact the  UK High Commission  for details about visas, currency and customs. 

Other formalities

If you're travelling on an Australian ePassport, you can use eGates on arrival in the UK, free of charge. You don't need to complete a landing card.

You can use eGates if you're:

• aged 10 or over with an Australian ePassport
• a member of the registered traveller service

You need a stamp in your passport if you're:

• travelling on an emergency passport or Document of Identity travel document
• visiting for short-term study (less than six months)
• visiting for other specific reasons or certain types of work (such as Permitted Paid Engagements or with a Tier 5 Creative and Sporting certificate of sponsorship)

The UK and the EU provide updated guidance on the implications of Brexit for issues such as travel, residency, education and employment. You can check for the latest information on the websites of the  UK Government  and the  European Commission .

Some countries won't let you enter unless your passport is valid for 6 months after you plan to leave that country. This can apply even if you're just transiting or stopping over.

Some foreign governments and airlines apply the rule inconsistently. You can receive conflicting advice from different sources.

You can end up stranded if your passport is not valid for more than 6 months.

The Australian Government does not set these rules. Check your passport's expiry date before you travel. If you're not sure it'll be valid for long enough, consider getting  a new passport .

Lost or stolen passport

Your passport is a valuable document. It's attractive to people who may try to use your identity to commit crimes.

Some people may try to trick you into giving them your passport. Always keep it in a safe place.

If your passport is lost or stolen, tell the Australian Government as soon as possible:

• In Australia, contact the  Australian Passport Information Service .
• If you're overseas, contact the nearest  Australian embassy or consulate .

Passport with 'X' gender identifier 

Although Australian passports comply with international standards for sex and gender, we can't guarantee that a passport showing an 'X' in the sex field will be accepted for entry or transit by another country. Contact the nearest  embassy, high commission or consulate of your destination  before you arrive at the border to confirm if authorities will accept passports with 'X' gender markers.

The official currency is the Pound Sterling (GBP).

ATMs are available and credit cards are widely used.  Contactless payment is widely accepted.

If you're travelling to or from a non-European Union (EU) country, declare cash of more than 10,000 euros or equivalent. This covers all forms of currency, not only cash.

You may have to pay a penalty if you don't declare this cash.

Local travel

Severe weather can affect airline, bus and train services. Check with local transport providers for up-to-date details.

Driving permit

You can drive a car or motorbike for up to 12 months. You need a full Australian licence for the relevant vehicle. After 12 months, you'll need to get a UK driver's licence. An International Driving Permit isn't required.

If riding a motorcycle, always wear a helmet.

Road travel

Road and safety conditions in the UK are comparable to those in Australia. Follow the advice from local authorities.

• Driving or riding

Some people have reported  sexual assaults  and  robberies  in unlicensed taxis. Only use officially marked taxis.

Rail travel

Rail services are extensive. They can be affected by industrial action, weather, or engineering work.

Check  National Rail  or the  Transport for London  websites for the latest service updates.

• Transport and getting around safely

The Australian Government doesn't provide information on the safety of individual commercial airlines or flight paths.

Check the  UK's air safety air profile  with the Aviation Safety Network.

Always get a police report when reporting a crime.

Your insurer should have a 24-hour emergency number.

Australian Visa Information

Unless you are an Australian citizen, you will need a valid Australian visa to enter the country. New Zealand passport holders can apply for a visa upon arrival in the country. All other passport holders, regardless of age, must apply for a visa before leaving home. You can apply for a range of Australian visa types, including tourist visas and working holiday visas, via the ETA app or on the  Department of Home Affairs website.

There are different Australian visa types available for travellers to Australia. Knowing which Australian visa to apply for depends on the length of your stay, your passport and the purpose of your visit. You’ll also need to meet certain financial and medical requirements, be outside of Australia when applying and maintain health insurance for the duration of your stay. 

Electronic Travel Authority visa  (subclass 601) This visa allows you to visit Australia as many times as you want, for up to a year, and stay for three months each visit. This visa is available to passport holders from a number of countries and regions, who live outside Australia. A step-by-step guide on how to apply is  here .

All ETA-eligible passport holders must apply for an ETA using the Australian ETA app. Agents can assist you in the application process, but you must be physically present as a live facial image is required.

eVisitor  (subclass 651) This is a free visa for multiple visits to Australia for tourism or business purposes for up to three months at a time within a 12-month period. This visa is available to passport holders from a number of European countries and it cannot be extended.

Visitor visa  (subclass 600) The Visitor visa allows you to visit Australia, either for tourism or business purposes. It is open to all nationalities. Generally, a period of stay of up to three months is granted, but up to 12 months may be granted in certain circumstances. Applicants will have to pay a fee to submit their application.

The application process may differ depending on which visa you need.

You can only apply for the  Electronic Travel Authority visa  (subclass 601) through the Australian ETA app. A step-by-step guide on how to apply is located  here .

For other visas, you can apply online by creating an ImmiAccount and completing the application process. Be sure to submit your application well in advance of your travel date to allow enough time for processing. You may be asked to provide further supporting information. You will be notified in writing if your tourist visa is approved and it will be digitally linked to your passport. If you are already in Australia and hold a valid Electronic Travel Authority visa (subclass 601) you can extend your stay by applying for another visa, such as a Visitor visa (subclass 600). An eVisitor (subclass 651) cannot be extended.

Working Holiday Visas

Australia's Working Holiday Maker program allows visitors aged under 30 (or 35 in certain cases) who hold a passport from a participating country to travel and work in Australia. Working holiday visas are valid for one year, or up to three years if you meet certain conditions.

Australian 6 Month Tourist Visa Application

Should you plan on visiting Australia for an extended stay (longer than 90 days), you will be required to apply for a long stay Australian tourist visa.

After the standard tourist visa (ETA visa), which allows for stays of up to 3 months (90 days) , there are other options available for stays of up to 6 months and stays of up to 12 months .

Australian Tourist visa for up to 6 months stay: What is permitted?

This visa permits you to stay in Australia (for the purpose of tourism) for up to 6 months at a time . (If you require longer periods of stay, you should choose the 12 month tourist visa option. If you plan to stay for 3 months or less, then the 3-month e-visa will be sufficient)

• Your 6 month tourist visa is valid for 12 months from the date it is issued.
• The visa allows for multiple visits, i.e. you will be permitted to leave and re-enter Australia as frequently as you like during this 12 month period.
• You may only stay for up to 6 months on each visit.
• You will not be able to re-enter after the anniversary of the date the visa was issued.

Requirements of a 6-month tourist visa

To be qualified to apply for a 6 month Australian visitor visa, you must agree with the following conditions:

• Your trip should be for tourism purposes – working is strictly prohibited!
• You must have the capacity to show proof of funds in your bank account that are sufficient to sustain you during the trip
• If somebody is providing accommodation we will require their details.
• You must not spend longer than 3 months studying while in Australia.*

* If you plan to study for longer than 4 weeks in Australia, you may be obliged to undergo a chest x-ray examination.

If you are over 75, you will be required to have medicals at an approved clinic

Note: If you have criminal convictions to declare, extra costs will be incurred.

How long does it take to get a 6-month visa for Australia?

The typical processing for a 6-month tourist visa application is about 2 – 4 weeks from the time you supply all required supporting information (not from the date of the application).

If further Medical or Police Checks are required, then it will take longer. The exact time will depend on the exact pathway your application takes.

There will also be additional fees to pay if medicals or police checks are requested. These fees will be payable directly to the appropriate agencies.

If you are planning on travelling to Australia with a criminal record , the process is likely to take considerably longer, and it is likely that if you are granted a visa, it will be for a shorter stay than 6 months. If you do have criminal convictions, you need to follow the visa application process for individuals with criminal convictions

With this visa, eligible nationals can also study or train for a maximum of three months. However, if they plan to study or train for longer periods, they will need to apply for a different type of visa.

What Documents Are Required for eVisitor Visa Applications?

The following documents are required when applying for an eVisitor visa from Eligible Countries:

   Passport, valid for at least six more months    A valid email address    A credit or debit card to pay the fee

The requirements for the eVisitor are simpler than those for a conventional tourist visa.

If the eVisitor Application is Under Further Process to Grant

eVisitor visa Applicants could be required to submit scanned copies of the following documents if the visa officers reviewing their application determine they require further information.

• Your passport’s bio page. The page includes your picture and name
• A copy of your ID Card (front and back)
• Proof of the reason you are visiting Australia
• A travel itinerary
• Proof of accommodation in Australia, such as a hotel booking or letter from a friend/relative who will host you
• Your flight reservation
• Proof that your trip is indeed temporary. (This might be an official letter from the institution of employment or education that specifies when you are supposed to return. It could also serve as evidence that you have responsibilities to your family and dependents back home.)
• Your bank statements from the last three months
• A list of your travel companions

C’è una domanda da farsi quando si organizza un viaggio in Australia: qual è il motivo che ci porta in quella nazione così interessante? La scelta della tipologia di autorizzazione da richiedere si trova proprio nella nostra risposta. C’è chi viaggia per turismo o anche chi può andare da quelle parti per tanti motivi diversi. Quanti tipi di visto per l’Australia esistono? La prima cosa che devi sapere è che i visti per l’Australia hanno un nome e una sorta di “ cognome ” chiamato “ Subclass ”, ovvero sottoclasse. Di seguito, i tre tipi di autorizzazione più comune per chi fa un viaggio in Australia per turismo :

Visto ETA (Subclass 601)

Evisitor (subclass 651), visto turistico o visitor visa (subclass 600).

Ovviamente, ci si può recare in Australia anche per lavoro. Anzi, sono proprio molti i giovani europei che, per esempio, richiedono un determinato tipo di visto per unire un’esperienza di lavoro a quella di una vacanza in Australia, magari per raggiungere la splendida barriera corallina. Questi sono:

Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 471)

• Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)
• Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
• Business Innovation and Investment Visa (Subclass 188)

Ognuno di questi, come vedremo, riguarda una diversa situazione di lavoro.

Infine, ci sono i visti per ragioni particolari:

• Student Visa (Subclass 500)
• Partner Visa (Subclass 820/801 e 309/100)
• Medical Treatment Visa (Subclass 602)

Ognuno di questi tipi di visto per l’Australia ha un suo proprio iter di rilascio e richiede documentazione diversa. La costante è, ovviamente, essere in possesso di un regolare passaporto italiano o della nazione di cui si ha la cittadinanza e che questo passaporto copra tutta la durata del viaggio.

Ogni visto per l’Australia è ben descritto sul sito governativo della nazione e, nel caso di dubbi, ci sono dei video tutorial che guidano i viaggiatori, passo dopo passo.

ETA signfica Electronic Travel Authorisation ed è una sigla che accomuna le richieste di ingresso turistico di molti paesi del Commonwealth come, per esempio, il Canada. Sarà anche il nome della nuova autorizzazione da richiedere da Aprile 2025 per entrare in Gran Bretagna.

Questo tipo di visto per l’Australia è quello che per cui si fa domanda di norma, quando si fa una tipica vacanza nel paese . Esso permette l’ingresso nel paese per tutte le volte che si vuole, nell’arco di 12 mesi dall’emissione, e concede una permanenza massima, per volta, di tre mesi sul suolo australiano.

Si richiede tramite un ’app sviluppata direttamente dal Governo Australiano . Il Visto ETA (Subclass 601) che richiede che siano attive le funzioni NCF sul proprio smartphone. Si tratta delle funzioni che, per esempio, ci permetto di utilizzare il nostro telefono al posto di un normale bancomat o carta di credito.

I viaggiatori con passaporto italiano che vogliono fare un viaggio per vedere le meraviglie di Perth , Sidney o altre zone richiedere questo tipo di visto per l’Australia, ovviamente prima del proprio viaggio. L’ETA per l’Australia, di per sé , è gratuito ma viene richiesto il pagamento di 20 AUD (circa 12€) per l’utilizzo dell’app ufficiale.

I passaporti dell’Unione Europea sono elegibili anche per questo tipo di visto per l’Australia che differisce per condizioni e modalità di richiesta dall’ETA. Siamo sempre nell’ambito delle autorizzazioni turistiche , con la differenza che questo visto c oncede anche di lavorare nel periodo di validità. Dura al massimo 12 mesi e non può essere esteso. Permette di restare nel paese per un massimo di tre mesi alla volta nell’anno di validità.

Va richiesto obbligatoriamente prima di arrivare nel paese e occorre:

• Avere condizioni mediche idonee agli standard governativi
• Non avere pendenze penali alcune con il proprio paese
• Dimostrare di avere abbastanza denaro per mantenersi in Australia

Tutti i criteri per andare incontro a queste richieste specifiche del governo australiano sono disponibili sul sito ufficiale dell’Australia e tutte le informazioni sono reperibili anche nei consolati e in ambasciata. Questo tipo di visto, malgrado richieda maggiore documentazione rispetto all’ETA, è gratuito .

Questa è l’ultima categoria di visto turistico per l’Australia e non può essere richiesto per motivazioni professionali. In cosa differisce, inoltre, dagli altri? Esso permette una permanenza sola di tre mesi che, su richiesta, può essere estesa fino a un massimo di un anno, entro la durata del visto stesso.

Rispetto agli altri visti di stampo turistico, esso non concede di uscire e rientrare (con la stessa autorizzazione) dall’Australia. Va sempre richiesto prima del viaggio e, per ottenerlo, si paga una tassa di circa 120€ (ovvero 195 AUD). Anche per il Visitor Visa sono richieste le stesse condizioni dell’eVisitor.

Il Working Holiday Visa è una delle autorizzazioni più conosciute, soprattutto tra la popolazione under 30 . Che cos’ha di speciale questo visto per l’Australia? In primis, il nome deriva da una sorta di programma di scambio culturale che concede, ai viaggiatori dei paesi aderenti, di fare un viaggio in Australia sia per visitare il paese che per lavorare. Si tratta del Working Holidat Maker Program.  Il fatto di ottenere un lavoro è un fatto centrale di questo visto. Permette ogni tipo di lavoro , sia esso full time o part-time e, tra le sue condizioni, è ammesso anche il volontariato . Durante un soggiorno in Australia con questo visto, si può anche studiare fino a un massimo di quattro mesi.

Per poter essere elegibili a questo visto occorre avere dai 18 ai 30 anni (35, per alcuni paesi) e non essere in cerca di un lavoro per emigrare in Australia definitivamente. La sua caratteristica è, infatti, quella di essere adatto a chi vuole, per esempio, trascorrere un anno sabbatico in Australia e, nel frattempo, avere l’occasione di mantenersi con tranquillità. Molte persone che ottengono questo visto, una volta in Australia, sono soliti lavorare delle aziende agricole del paese per raccogliere, per esempio, la frutta. Molte aziende che vedono crescere il loro lavoro in una parte dell’anno assumono spesso manodopera con questo visto.

Per ottenere il Working Holiday Visa è richiesta una documentazione precisa :

• Occorre un documento finanziario (tipo una fidejussione) che attesti che si hanno fondi a sufficienza. Il minimo richiesto è di 5’000 AUD, ovvero poco più di 3’000€.
• È necessario rispettare i requisiti sia sanitari che giudiziari.

Oltre a questo, ovviamente, occorre fornire un passaporto in corso di validità per tutto il periodo del viaggio. Questo tipo di visto per l’Australia costa 650 AUD (circa 400€) e non può essere esteso oltre i 12 mesi . Permette, però, di uscire e rientrare dal paese più volte.

I tipi di visto per lavorare in Australia

Se il Working Holiday Visa può essere considerato un visto che mescola un viaggio di scoperta a un momento di lavoro, ci sono delle autorizzazioni apposite che possono essere richieste per chi decide di andare a lavorare in Australia , con intento maggiormente stabile e duraturo. Ugualmente, ci sono dei tipo di visto per l’Australia per chi viene inviato dalla propria azienda o chiamato da una compagnia australiana a esercitare una professione nel paese dei koala e canguri.

Questi tipi di autorizzazione a entrare e restare nel paese sono diversi per costo e concessioni ma richiedono documentazione simile. Si tratta di:

Il Temporary Skill Shortage Visa è il visto australiano da richiedere quando qualcuno è chiamato a lavorare in Australia da un’azienda locale che richiede manodopera estera perché più esperta e formata in un determinato ambito. Facendo un esempio, possiamo dire che si tratti dell’autorizzazione da richiedere quando una manifattura tessile richiede l’intervento di un tessitore italiano esperto per un dato periodo di tempo. In mancanza di tessitori con la stessa esperienza in Australia, questa azienda richiede del personale estero. Questo visto costa 1330 AUG (circa 800€) e concede di lavorare in Australia per un minimo di 2 anni e un massimo di 4. Per ottenerlo, serve la consueta documentazione richiesta anche per i turisti, con l’aggiunta della lettera di invito del datore di lavoro, nonché un certificato che attesti le qualifiche professionali richieste.

Lo Skilled Independent Visa è il vero e proprio visto di lavoro per l’Australia e non richiede di essere invitati a lavorare nel paese. Il suo costo è importante perché occorre pagare 4200 AUD (circa 2500€) per ottenerlo. Occorre rientrare, inoltre, nella lista delle professioni presenti nella Skilled Occupation List, un documento governativo che classifica le professioni di un certo tipo . Oltre a questo, occorre dimostrare ufficialmente di essere in grado di parlare e comprendere l’inglese. Per questo motivo, è bene munirsi di una certificazione TOEFL aggiornata al momento in cui si richiede il visto, dato che quel tipo di esame di lingua inglese è riconosciuto internazionalmente. Lo Skilled Independent Vista costa permette una residenza permanente in Australia , con possibilità di entrata e uscita dal paese. A seconda delle mansioni, potrebbe essere richiesta anche una valutazione professionale una volta arrivati in Australia.

Il Business Innovation and Investment Visa è il tipo di visto per l’Australia da richiede se si vuole sviluppare un’attività propria nel paese o investire in eventuali progetti imprenditoriali. Questo è un visto temporaneo e dura 5 anni, dopo i quali c’è la possibilità di richiedere un visto di lavoro permanente. Dato che si tratta di un visto per imprenditori, con la domanda per ottenerlo verrà richiesto anche di attestare la propria attività imprenditoriale nel paese di residenza. Il suo costo è di 6270 AUD (ovvero 3800€) .

I visti speciali per recarsi in Australia

Non sarebbe male studiare a Sidney e, una volta usciti dal college o dall’università, fare un tuffo a Bondi Beach, no? Piacerebbe a molti e, per poter studiare in Australia (senza lavorare) è necessario richiedere uno Student Visa (Subclass 500) . Una delle condizioni chiave è di studiare a tempo pieno presso un istituto scolastico o università riconosciuta dal governo australiano. La sua durata è collegata a quella del corso di studi: una volta terminato questo, anche il visto cessa la sua validità. Il suo costo è di 630 AUD (poco più di 380€) . Per ottenere lo Student Visa occorre presentare la conferma di iscrizione a un corso di studi australiano e, inoltre, è richiesta un’assicurazione sanitaria che copra tutto il periodo interessato. Oltre a questo, come per altri visti, è richiesto di certificare che si abbiano fondi sufficienti per mantenersi.

Di diversa natura è il Partner Visa (Subclass 820/801 e 309/100) , autorizzazione richiesta per ricongiungimento famigliare . Questo tipo di visto per l’Australia era il più conosciuto tra gli Italiani negli Ann immigrati down under negli Anni ’50. Serviva per far sì che le proprie mogli (spesso sposate per procura) arrivassero nel paese. Anche al giorno d’oggi, è il visto per l’Australia più richiesto da chi vuole farsi raggiungere, in modo permanente, dalla propria famiglia. Il suo costo è molto alto, ovvero 8085 AUD, che corrispondono a circa 4900€. Questo visto richiede anche che si inviino tutti i documenti che attestano il legame famigliare . Ogni documento va tradotto dall’Italiano all’Inglese per poter essere considerato valido. La traduzione va poi approdava da un pubblico ufficiale.

L’ultima tipologia tra i tipi di visto più comuni per l’Australia è il Medical Treatment Visa (Subclass 602) . Come dice il suo nome, si tratta dell’autorizzazione da richiedere per poter recarsi in Australia per delle cure mediche. Vale solo per la persona a cui è intestata la cartella clinica. Eventuali accompagnatori devono richiedere altri tipi di visto, a seconda della situazione. Per ottenere questo visto è necessario provare la necessità di cure mediche possibili solo in Australia . La sua durata è variabile e viene discussa caso per caso, trattandosi di un qualcosa di molto delicato e particolare. Il suo costo è di 330 AUD, che corrispondono a circa 200€.

Osservando tutti questi tipi di visto per l’Australia viene da pensare quanto sia difficile destreggiarsi con la burocrazia del governo di Canberra ma non è così. I tipi di autorizzazioni sono tante ma, il più delle volte, i documenti richiesti sono gli stessi: cambiano i costi e i moduli da presentare. Per fortuna, il sito ufficiale dell’ufficio immigrazione dell’Australia è ben fatto e riporta le procedure passo per passo.
