Howdy, carnival jubilee port of galveston gives texas-sized welcome to newest fun ship.

Santa Helps Deliver Carnival Cruise Line’s New Flagship as Onboard Team Prepares to Sail More Than 6K Guests on First Cruise

GALVESTON, Tex., Dec. 20, 2023 – Waving from the newest Fun Ship, Santa Claus swapped his sleigh for the day so he could help deliver Carnival Jubilee – the first brand new cruise ship to debut in Galveston, Tex. Carnival Cruise Line’s new flagship, which dons a Texas Star on its bow, was welcomed home with a grand water salute as she docked at Galveston Wharves’ Terminal 25 for the first time. The official debut of the 26th Fun Ship in the Carnival fleet signals the start of a significant expansion strategy in Galveston, which has grown among Carnival’s top homeports since the company became the first cruise line to operate there year-round more than two decades ago. In addition to bringing Carnival’s most innovative and dynamic entertainment and dining offerings, the ship will now significantly expand capacity from the port. Carnival Jubilee joins Carnival Breeze and Carnival Dream at the port as part of a four-ship deployment plan that will be complete when Carnival Miracle repositions to Galveston next fall. “The Texas star on her bow isn’t just decoration, it’s a symbol of our gratitude to our  guests sailing from Texas who’ve made us the number one cruise line in Galveston, and our commitment to the future of cruising from this great city and state,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “When we cut the ribbon to welcome our first guests on this ship this weekend, we’ll be celebrating the beginning of a new era of operations here.” Along with bringing the first roller coaster on board a cruise ship to Texas, Carnival Jubilee will also usher in the use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Galveston. Enhancements were made at the port to accommodate the use of LNG and additionally, Carnival’s decision to deploy the new ship at its Texas homeport generated a $53 million investment in terminal improvements. In a Dec. 20 column, The Galveston County Daily News described Carnival Jubilee as a significant addition to the port and said, “The fact Carnival is willing to base its newest, biggest asset in Galveston is testament to the port’s standing in the industry and further evidence that past investment in cruise facilities was, and more investment would be, prudent.” “The terminal, which has been home to Carnival ships since 2000, has been renovated top to bottom, inside and out. From a new roof, expanded dock and exterior colors to new interior finishes and furniture, the terminal has a fresh, new look,” said Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO. “We are happy the time has come for this historic event and honored to host this beautiful, state-of-the-art ship.” Now, Carnival Jubilee’s 1,750 team members are preparing to welcome more than 6,000 guests aboard for a maiden departure on Saturday. The ship is set to sail on a seven-day Western Caribbean cruise, visiting Mahogany Bay as well as Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico. The ship will continue sailing week-long cruises year-round. Introducing the Carnival Jubilee.

carnival cruise galveston new ship

Carnival Cruise Line's newest ship will arrive in Texas in 2023.

The Excel-class ship is named the Carnival Jubilee and will be delivered to Galveston, Texas, where it will sail seven-day, western Caribbean trips, according to Carnival .

"Carnival was the first cruise line to offer year-round cruising from Galveston in 2000, and we have continued to grow our presence and support of the Port of Galveston's expansion, so we are thrilled to bring our brand-new Carnival Jubilee to Texas and the greater southwest region," Christine Duffy, the president of Carnival Cruise Line, said in a statement. "This beautiful, innovative ship will bring an entirely new cruise experience to our guests, and we've got some great surprises to fun it up in ways we know they are going to love."

When it sails, the ship will be capable of transporting more than 5,400 guests and will feature the BOLT roller coaster on the top deck as well as new designs for suites and staterooms and a three-deck atrium overlooking the ocean that will convert into an entertainment venue at night.

The company also plans to sail its Carnival Celebration out of Miami starting in late 2022.

After pausing operations during the pandemic, Carnival first set sail out of Florida and Texas in July 2021 with fully vaccinated passengers. In August of the same year, the cruise line started requiring unvaccinated guests who were granted a medical exemption to provide a doctor's note ahead of embarking on a cruise.

Carnival Jubilee — Debuting in 2023 — Set to Homeport in Galveston

Cruising in Texas continues to grow, and it now looks to get even bigger… literally. Today, Carnival Cruise Line announced that its third Excel-class ship, Carnival Jubilee , will homeport in Galveston when it is delivered in 2023.

Carnival Jubilee

The upcoming mega-ship will join sister ships Mardi Gras and Celebration in the Excel class as Carnival looks to increase the size and amenities of its fleet. Mardi Gras debuted earlier this year, sailing from Port Canaveral. Celebration is set to sail from Miami beginning in 2022. Now, it’s Galveston’s turn to be home to the cruise line’s newest ship.

“Carnival was the first cruise line to offer year-round cruising from Galveston in 2000, and we have continued to grow our presence and support of the Port of Galveston’s expansion, so we are thrilled to bring our brand-new Carnival Jubilee to Texas and the greater southwest region,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “This beautiful, innovative ship will bring an entirely new cruise experience to our guests, and we’ve got some great surprises to fun it up in ways we know they are going to love.”

The Excel-class of ships represent a sharp departure from the rest of the Carnival fleet. Jubilee will be 182,000 gross tons, according to the cruise line. It will carry more than 5,400 guests and 1,700 crew. For comparison, Carnival Vista –the largest Carnival ship currently sailing from Galveston — is roughly 145,000 gross tons and carries around 4,000 passengers at double occupancy.

Like its sisters, Jubilee will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). It will also feature more dining, new designs for staterooms, and even BOLT — a roller coaster that circles the top of the ship. Carnival also says that more details on her construction will be released in the coming months.

Jubilee Returns to Galveston

If the Jubilee name sounds familiar, that’s because Carnival had a previous ship with the same name. In fact, it homeported in Galveston in 2002. Now roughly two decades later, a new version of the ship — four times larger — will once again call the island home.

Positioning its newest ship in Galveston is another feather in the cap for the Texas port. Already a $125 million third terminal is under construction on the island, which will be home to the largest Oasis-class ships from Royal Caribbean. In addition, Norwegian Cruise Line has plans to homeport its upcoming newest ship, Norwegian Prima, from Galveston during the winter 2023-24 season.

And when Carnival returned to sailing earlier this year, its first cruise was not from Miami or Port Canaveral, but from Galveston aboard the Carnival Vista.

What started as a relatively sleepy port has quickly grown over two decades to become the biggest player in cruising outside of Florida.

One reason for that popularity is the port’s location. Just a few hours drive for tens of millions of people, Galveston gives the ability for those all over Texas and the southwest to drive to a port to board. In addition, instead of having to fly to the East Coast, the more central location offers another choice for passengers looking to fly in for a cruise.

“We love Texas, and Texas loves Carnival. Galveston is one of our most popular homeports, and we draw guests to Texas from across the Midwest, southwest and western U.S. Bringing a brand-new ship to a market is a big commitment, and it’s one we gladly make for the greater Galveston community and entire region,” said Duffy.

Carnival Cruise Line adding another ship to its Galveston lineup: What we know so far about its vacation options out of Texas port

Carnival miracle offering trips longer than those currently available out of the texas port.

Amanda Cochran , Digital Special Projects Manager

GALVESTON, Texas – Carnival Cruise Line announced Thursday that it is expanding its offerings in Galveston , by bringing a fourth ship, Carnival Miracle , to the port that will offer sailings of nine-, 10-, 11- and 12 days beginning in the fall of 2024 through spring 2025.

“We have always offered a great variety of cruises from Galveston, but by adding a fourth Carnival ship to homeport in Galveston and sailing these longer itineraries, we are giving our guests great new choices, especially for those who want to experience a wider variety of beautiful ports of call and more time to enjoy their time at sea,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Galveston is one of our top homeports, and with the arrival of Carnival Jubilee and the new Carnival Miracle itineraries, it will only grow in popularity with our guests.”

Carnival Miracle will reposition from San Francisco to Galveston on Oct. 1, 2024, and operate a Carnival Journeys voyage that visits Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Cartagena, Colombia; and a Panama Canal transit.

Once in Galveston, Carnival Miracle will offer a series of 19 cruises beginning on Oct. 16, 2024. A sampling of some of the new itineraries now open for sale include:

  • 10-Day Panama Canal Sailing departs Nov. 15, 2024, featuring stops in Cozumel, Mexico; Limon, Costa Rica; Colon, Panama (and tours of the Panama Canal); and Mahogany Bay, Isla Roatan.
  • 11-Day Exotic Caribbean Sailing departs Nov. 25, 2024, with visits to Montego Bay, Jamaica; Amber Cove; Grand Turk; Princess Cays and Nassau, The Bahamas.
  • 12-Day Carnival Journeys Southern Caribbean Sailing departs Jan. 26, 2025, and visits Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; Aruba; Bonaire; Curacao; Cozumel, Mexico.

Full details on Carnival Miracle’s new sailings from Galveston can be found here .

Carnival said the 2,200-guest Carnival Miracle recently completed a dry dock where Carnival’s new red, white and blue livery was added to the ship’s hull. Carnival Miracle features many of the venues of the cruise line, from Guy’s Burger Joint to the BlueIguana Cantina, the RedFrog and Alchemy bars, as well as WaterWorks Aqua Park and The Punchliner Comedy Club.

Carnival said Carnival Miracle will further diversify Carnival’s deployment from Galveston, joining Carnival Breeze, which offers four- and five-day cruises; Carnival Dream, which sails mostly six- and eight-day cruises, and the new Excel-Class Carnival Jubilee featuring a rollercoaster, which arrives this December to begin week-long Western Caribbean sailings.

carnival dream sets sail at sea

Get to Know Carnival Dream

It's one thing to be fun, but it's another thing to be first. Carnival Dream was at the forefront of a recent wave of amazingly innovative and fun Carnival ships. As the genesis of the Dream class, Carnival Dream set the direction for the ships that followed in her footsteps — first Carnival Magic and then Carnival Breeze. But back to Carnival Dream: the ship itself is a unique experience with the way-fun RedFrog Rum Bar ® and the very cool BlueIguana Tequila Bar ™ . Get your appetite ready, because you're gonna need it. Carnival Dream features two dual-level dining rooms, a gourmet steakhouse and dedicated sushi spot Bonsai Sushi ™ . It's also got a full menu of our latest and greatest casual spots for a bite: BlueIguana Cantina ™ , Pizzeria del Capitano, Guy's Burger Joint ™ and Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse ™ . (That's Guy as in Guy Fieri, by the way — so you know the food's delish.) Carnival Dream also features the borderline-magical Alchemy Bar ® and Ocean Plaza, which combines tasty treats with perhaps even tastier entertainment. Entertainment options are all up and down the ship, and so is soaking-wet fun, from the heart-racing waterslide action at Carnival WaterWorks ™ to the soul-soothing Thalassotherapy pool at the Cloud 9 Spa ™ . Despite its name, Carnival Dream is definitely a reality. Can't believe it? Pinch yourself... and book your dream cruise today.
